Title: Blackpool Main Event Day Two Live Update
Post by: tikay on May 07, 2006, 02:36:29 PM
Jen & sloppy will be with you shortly with the Day Two Live Update, & a cracking day looks to be in prospect. Sadly, after a misunderstanding 2 hands before the close of play, it will not involve yours truly, dammit.

I'm at home now - another "misunderstanding".

Thing is, Jen is MAD to go on the rollercoaster, & that hound sloppy negotiated a deal whereby Jen would dye her hair blonde for the World Serios - proper job - but in return, I had to go on the Big Dipper with them today. Jen's words were "I don't mind looking daft if it gets you on the Big Dipper". (Dyeing one's hair makes one look daft, eh?).

Anyway, I COMPLETELY forgot about the deal, & slipped out of Blackpool on the 07.53 homebound train this morning. My memory, eh?

Expect the intrepid duo to be Online very shortly.

well played last night mate, lets get our man over the line today.

Let's hope so! He had a setback just before the end when he ran his QQ into AA - surprisingly he never hit his set, as anicipated - but he's the one they all fear - him & Lord Werrnick gotta be the ones to beat, though there are some Class Players still in, as well as some Welsh ones.

Never get me on those rollercoasters, went on one with the kids at Legoland, thought I was gonna die (still have nightmares lol). Never again, repeat never ever never....no way. (the kids are 7 & 10, so it was one of those slow roller coasters, lol)
Well escaped Tikay.

It's odd how some people react to rollercoasters, i am terrified of the bleeding things, you couldn't drag me onto one of them and yet i've done things that theoretically should be much more scary yet not batted an eyelid ???

I detest most fairground/theme park rides but love rollar coasters! The one at blackpool is cracking and well worth trying!

Good luck blondes!

They will! Henning is a good friend of blonde, Jen, sloppy & myself. I sat to his immediate right for a goodly while yesterday, he is SOME player, & we have had many great battles in the last few years. But it was an unequal battle yesterday, he was chipped up to the nines, & impossible for me to take on in the Blinds unless I had a proper hand.

GREAT player.

Thanks to tikay for tiding us over... Play actually started 15 minutes ago, but lucky for us there's been little or no big action.  Except for Paul Parker, who has recently become OUT thanks to his Ts Td which ran into Jc Js... The ten flopped for him, but the turn brought a Jack so we're down to 27.

That's actually it, so far.  Thank goodness.

I'm not going to lie to you, we were on The Pepsi Max Big One, which despite the turn in the weather to the grey had developed quite a queue.  I stand by that executive decision not to bail out.  ;)

Hi all, Jen was petrified by that rollercoaster. I think she's okay now though, I assured her she'd be fine... and I was right. She just need confirmation from a man.  ;hide;

Meanwhile, Rory Matthews has just doubled up off Johnny Hewston and now has around 65k.

Just to clarify...

There are 27 players remaining, with blinds at 800-1600, and an average stack of 58,500. We have 30 minutes left at this level.

Post by: snoopy1239 on May 07, 2006, 03:38:56 PM
How about this for a hand?? Amazing stuff.

2 players move all-in.

Joe Grech gets out the way with his pocket sevens, whilst Martyn Cavanagh mucks tens.

The two players involved are Carl Thomas and Gareth 'The Nugget' Jones.

Carl had nines, and Gareth had kings.

So, we've got kings v nines, with sevens and tens mucked.

Therefore, with this being the bizarre world of poker, the board can only be something like...

3d 9h 7h Kc 7d

Gareth takes a massive pot with trip kings over Carl's trip nines. But Joe would have been the biggest winner with quads on the river.

Blimey.

As Jimmy Greaves once said...

"It's a funny ol' game."

Too late for Johnny I'm afraid.

Hewston we have a problem.

Julian Thew raises under the gun, Paul Johnstone reraises, and Texas moves all-in. Julian folds, but Paul calls.

Johnstone = K-K, Hewston = A-K

No help and Hewston is OUT.

Carl Thomas is OUT - made a stand with 8h 8s, and Martyn Cavanagh in the big blind said, "I'll call you blind."  Great until he finds Qd Qh!!

So is Buddy - Battle of the blinds with Julian, who was kind of running out of chips himself and held Ahrt 6d -against Mr. Ayegon's Qd Qc.
The crucial Ace fell on the turn, giving YoYo a new lease of life and sending his opponent out in a somewhat disappointed 24th.

After your dreadfully unfortunate exit - what WAS that guy thinking?! - Gareth was extremely complimentary about your game, said he'd not got a thing past you all day. I just said you are an internet player......

And we've now lost Paul Rigg, another shorter stack - Ts Td looked like a good hand to make a stand with, and it would have been if Mickey Wernick hadn't woken up with the Ks Kc.  He was already standing up as the board (unimproving) was dealt.

I have overstepped that courtesy of cardroom boundary, by, I am ashamed to admit it, nicking the originals of the seating/button position/chip count charts last night.  It was pointed out to me that the nice handy reference papers I was using were not photocopies, as I initially thought.  But they were awfully nice about it.  I humbly and publicly ask forgiveness.

Thought something was odd the way we got the counts almost immediately ;)

Joe Grech doubles up from a minute stack to a short one with the Js Qc.  Big blind pretty much autocalled with 8c 9s and two red Queens graced the flop, giving the Joker 17,000 or so.

Henning Granstad (in the cut-off) bets 10.5k on a flop 9c 9d 7c.

Ned Flanders, in the big blind, folds showing a 6s.

Henning exposes pocket aces.

Do you think he was ahead?

Yes, Texas is out, and we're down to 19.  So it might be a good time to remind you that they're within smelling distance of the Money:

1  £47,530
2  £31,600
3  £19,750
4  £14,220
5  £10,270
6   £7,900
7   £6,320
8   £4,700
9   £3,200
10 £2,370
11 £2,060
12-14  £1,740
15-16  £1,430

This is one of the best structures I've come across. Excellent stuff from Yogi and the team.

Smarter than the average bear...

although I've heard the average bear isn't too smart.  ;hide;

With the blinds at 1,000/2,000 Thewy is getting shorter, but could still pass after raising to 6,000 when Henning (right on his left) made it 20k to go preflop.  Julian showed the Ace, got shown the Qh Qd.  Looks like Mr. Granstad gets YoYo's respect... almost unimaginable!

Elsewhere Mike Lacey plays it safe when Iwan raises about 3,500 from under the gun.  Something must have seemed fishy to Mike, as he passed showing the Aspades (kicker Six).  He gets a flash of the old Ad Ac!

It's show and tell hour here at Blackpool, with everyone getting rewarded with sneaky peeks at the uncalled hands..

Here on the left we have a cheerful Nigel Turver dressed for summer (in Miami Beach) and on the right Bluesquare qualifier 'Honest' John Exley, who looks like he's kind of subtly pointing at his neighbour.

Double Chance Freezeout, 30 minute clock. (As it's a 1 day thingy). Don't know the starting chips though.

Am playing an amazingly well-structured comp on Blue Square right now, 30 minute clock, we been playing nearly an hour & a half, & blinds are only 50-100! Which is my excuse for a mini-chirp, I'm Chip Daddy with 8 left. Though I suppose some smart Alec will point out that there were only 14 runners.....

A shame though - a $150 Freezeout, with $1,000 added, & a 30 minute clock - & only 14 runners. Guess not everyone likes the same things, but I'd play these all day & all night given the chance. Quality field, if small, with Lovejoy in close 2nd giving me all kinda grief.

We're back at our desks (well, on a spare table) which we're a little worried might be taken from us when they want to get the £100 tourney underway.  But until that dreadful time comes, we'll be able to update happily - and on full stomachs - I think I ate a whole salmon and a profiterole in the break.

Oh, if there are now two tables - there must have been a 19th place finisher, and I'm afraid to say it's Julian Thew -

Mickey Wernick made a small raise from the cutoff, and Julian went for it from the small blind with 7d 7c - Mickey had Qs Qd and it was all over.  I went to look in his seat and there was someone else - who looked suspiciously exactly like Iwan Jones.

Blinds Jules Adamson (small) and Paul Johnson (big) get involved like so:
Jules raises by 7k preflop on a foldaround, Paul calls.
Flop: Tc Ks 7c.  Jules bets out 11,500, gets raised by 15,000 (I think) and immediately declares, "All in."  A think and a countdown later, Paul folds and gets shown the Kd Qd which I reckon the young lad was rightly confident was ahead.

I Khan is OUT.

Eliminated by 'The Worm'.

After some preflop action in which Mickey raised and Khan called from the big blind, we reach a board of 2-7-4-8. Mickey bets 45k, and, after a long dwell, Khan moves in his shortstack with pocket nines. Blank on the river and Mickey's cowboys hold up.

The Worm is now approaching the 300k mark and is a big chip leader.

The overly large crowd for tonight's event has meant that we are being evicted from our comfy table back into the little strip of gangway next to the rail (also jam packed at the moment) onto one coffee table for four laptops... normal service should resume in about an hour or so when the field for the £100 starts to consume itself and a table frees up, but it's back to being elbowed and fighting for leg space for that time.  Sigh.

There's nothing they can do in the cardroom itself - demand is just outstripping supply by quite a way - but I am really not sure that this bit of hallway is the best solution.  Nevertheless, at least I am not Snoopy, with no chair, typing standing up while angry people try to get past him.  Snoop quote: "How close are you to Narkyville?"  "About twenty minutes.  Approaching Irritable Valley."

Jen here -

We're going to share this laptop a tad to save space... Been watching the caginess down in the card room and although a couple of players (Iwan Jones and Tim Flanders in particular) are getting pretty short - blinds 2,000/4,000 - there looks to be no desire on anyone's part to gamble at the bubble.

For example, Tim Flanders raised 12k out of his 37k stack in mid position, and when small blind Henning eventually re-raised him all-in, he just couldn't bring himself to call.  I missed exactly what the hands were that were chatted about afterwards, but something like a pair of Fours vs Fives came to light.  I don't think Tim enjoyed folding, in any case.

Some snippets of info for you:

-- Micky is taking it easy, chatting on the rail with Mr Raab and having a schmoke. Can afford to with that stack!

-- Mike Lacey is enquiring about the female interest on blonde. 'Any more requests for my photo, snoops?' he asks. 'No Mike, nothing, nil, nada, Nun and Mel have  both signed off.'

-- Garath 'The Nugget' Jones just folded to an all-in reraise from Mick McClusky. Incidentally, I have been assured that Gareth aquired his 'nugget' moniker way before Steve Davis did.

-- Mike Lacey is staying alive, just about, with 41k. He just moved all-in preflop to take the blinds. He showed A-K suited and said that, as shortstack, he's desperate for a double-up and would have welcomed a call with open arms.

Tim Flanders is OUT.

Jen probably has the hand details for us as she's perched table-side.

As he passed though, I overhead Ned say, 'I started the day with 97k, you'd think I'd be pretty safe, wouldn't you?'

Dave 'doubleup' McGeachie is OUT.

Henning Granstad raised preflop, Dave called.

Flop = 5-6-7

Dave bets 26k, Henning reraised... another 42k all-in for Dave... who does call.

Dave = K-K
Henning = T-T

Ten turn, Six river.

Ouch.

Double-up for Iwan Jones -

Button Rory Matthews raises it up to 13k.  Big blind Iwan moves in straight away for 20k or so more - call.
Rory shows:  Aspades Jd (not exactly button stealing)
Iwan shows:  Kh Kc  (not on the resteal)

The board:  3c Ts Qc 6c 3s and Iwan's back in it with around 75k

And Mike Lacey's remarkable short stack run comes to an end at 13th place, winning £1,740

He found an open spot in the cutoff with Kd Qh and pushed his 24,500 in - but it was hard luck that Mick McCloskey found Ad Qs in the small blind, and, finding himself dominated, he stood up as the raggy board came down to bring his run to an end.

R Mulla doubles through courtesy of Jules Adamson.

Mulla raises preflop from the cut-off, Adamson reraises from the small blind.

It's another 35k for Mulla to call, but he moves in.

Adamson sighs, but still goes for the call with A-Q. Mulla shows pocket queens.

Board = Td 5s 2d 6d 8s

Henning Saves Himself Some Chips News Now -

Twice in this round he's flopped top pair and been out-turned or rivered - once with Ac Ks hitting an A J Q flop.  Putting his opponent on a pair around Jacks, this made it a bit difficult for him to bet, so he checked.  The turn brought a Ten, and the river another one - when it was checked to him he thought about betting, and then thought better of it - which is just as well as his opponent had Ts Td!

Then he was in the big blind with JQ, and hit a Queen-high flop - but out of position to a limper it was checked - and two Tens appeared on the turn and river once again - making his opponent's Qd Td a lot better at the end of the hand.  But he lost about as few chips as possible on these hands, and seems as confident as one can be that he'll make the final...he'd better - he's my last pick!  I can't let Snoopy be right about things..he'll start getting ideas.

Yoyo time for Chris Johnson.

First off, he was taken down to 15k by Iwan Jones who doubled up with T-T v 8-8 on a K-6-A-Q-5 board.

Then, after mucking the next two hands, he makes his inevitable all-im move under the gun, only to find Paul Johnstone reraise from the small blind with A-K. Luckily for Paul, his patience had rewarded him as he flipped over pocket cowboys. Board lacked an ace and Chris is back on his feet. Incidentally, Martyn folded pocket tens from the big blind, but only would have won any chips if he'd rereraised and managed to extract more chips from Paul.

Double through for Martyn Cavanagh - Henning raised to 22k (I believe) and found Martyn on the button quickly pushing in for about 40k more.  A lengthy think during which time Henning effectively called the clock on himself, and he eventually decided that Martyn "didn't have a pair" and called with a risky 6c 8c in a bid to knock out Mr. Cavanagh.  Instead, he hit an Ace on the flop and now has 133,000.

Henning is currently fuming, literally steam coming out of his ears.

Shortstack Chris Johnson ended up all-in with 9-7 against Henning Granstad's 8-7 suited.

The dealer starting dealing the flop...

J-9... then she accidentally burns a card and deals an T (giving Henning a flopped straight, but dealing a card that should be the actual burn card).

Iwan Jones spotted the error, and halted the dealer.

The dealer rectified her error and dealt out the following board...

J-9-5-8-A... with the ten being the burn.

Chris wins with a pair of nines, but Henning is left throwing down his head-phones in complete disgust at the dealer's faux pas.

"Are you effing kidding me?!" he exclaimed. "I can't believe these mistakes are being made with this amount of money at stake."

Not a happy chappy.

In fact, he temporarily visited Tiltville.

ps. this occurred just before Chris Johnson's exit, so, as Paul Parker amusingly said, they might as well just given Henning the straight in the first place.  8)

Extraordinary Pass News Now -

On Paul Johnstone's big blind, he announces that no-one better try raising him - but Henning, perhaps still a little shaken by his non-flop, just pushes in for his now short 60,000 or so.  Paul thinks for about a month, then passes, showing Ac Qd!
Henning shows him just the Ad and I imagine there must have been considerable relief - Paul covered him by a good ways and that could have been that.

But it looks like that has restored our Scandie friend's good humour.

Paul Johnstone, on the other hand, just hit a perfect turn card against Iwan, putting him on a nasty decision for a 150k pot - Iwan had raised preflop and Paul called.
Flop:  Jd Th 9d  something must have happened here to get the pot all juicy
Turn: Kc  This is where I showed up and saw Paul already all-in and Iwan thinking about calling around half the pot - don't know how the money got there but I think it must have been a Iwan bet and a Paul raise.
"I've got top two pair," laments Iwan.
"But I know what you've got..." and he passes Kc Js - and gets rewarded with the Ad Qh.
"Why didn't you re-raise preflop?" asks Iwan.
"The only two hands I re-raise with are AA and KK.  Not even AK."
Well, there you go.

The Final Table Bubble Has Burst!  Rory Matthews is the 10th place finisher winning £2,370

He moved in front of Iwan Jones with Qh Kd, but Iwan woke up with another big hand - Ac Kc and it was curtains for Rory, who played strongly throughout the day, only to narrowly miss that final.

And goooo Henning Granstad. Interesting note his name came up online a while back and in Norway he is apparently called the "master of great calls" or something along those lines.

Make that the 1,2,3 and 4 in any order.

Mick raises preflop with Big Slick, Mickey shoves in 65k, Mick moves all-in. Automatic call for Mickey with his A-Q.

All this legend stuff tut tut.

Unfortunately Kev just suffered a rather bad beat with KQ - a King flopped and that's when the other guy with K 10 decided it was a good idea to go all in - as it turned out a Ten popped up and knocked Kev out but he's a shrugger not a foot-stomper and is quietly smoking on the rail.

Henning just saw a flop with Paul Johnstone and Mulla which came out Ahrt 6h 4h (or something very similar and all hearty)
It checked to him and he moved in.
A lengthy pause as Paul considered calling (I caught a glimpse of a heart in his hand) but in the end they both passed and Henning made a sound not entirely unlike "Phew," showing the Ad Qd.  He's crawling back, I know it.

Trevor raises preflop, Mulla flat calls from the cut-off, raggy flop, Trevor checks, Mulla sets Trevor all-in with a 60k bet, Trevor folds, Mulla shows pocket jacks, Trevor down to 49k.

Trevor Reardon is OUT in 9th place, winning £3,200

He moved his very short 24,000 in with Ac 8c when it folded to him, and big blind Mulla called with any old cards - as it turned out Js 7c.
Flop:  Jh 2h 9h
Turn: 7s
River: 8s

And we've lost our first finalist.  Sorry for the slowness, but it's really been raise and pass stuff - hardly a flop seen for half an hour.  I think Snoopy is getting the fresh counts for you now.

Henning Granstad is OUT in 8th place and wins £4,700

Henning raised preflop, Iwan reraised him all-in, Henning called.

Henning = Ahrt Ks

Iwan = Ts Td

Board = 2d 4c 4h Tc Qd

True story:  I just told Snoopy that I was bored of there being no action and I was going to make the next hand into a story no matter what happened:  so here it is:

Mickey Wernick goes OUT in 7th place, winning £6,320

Martyn raised 40k on the button, and Mickey on the small blind moved in for a further 59,000.  The longest dwell I've seen in this comp yet took place before Martyn called and they were on their backs:
Martyn showed: 3h 3c
Mickey showed: Ahrt 7h

Flop:  Kd Ks 3d
Turn and river - irrelevant

And Mickey's out, BUT his placing puts him back on top of the European rankings.

Mick McLoskey bets 15k into a flop of 2h 4h 5s.

R Mulla calls.

They check the Ks turn.

And also the 9s river.

Even though Mulla made a ten high flush. Clearly a cheeky trapper.

Jen here - Snoopy has briefly commandeered my laptop for his own purposes so I'll report this hand over here:

It folds to the blinds, and Mulla raises 15k.  Big blind Mick McCloskey calls.
Flop:  7h 3d Qc   Check - check
Turn: Aspades  Check - Mick bets 35k.  Mulla calls.
River: 6d  Mulla bets out 30k, and after a pause to get up and peer down at the board for a bit, Mick passes.

And a double through for John Exley - Iwan raised in mid position, and John took the plunge (not a small call for Iwan to make).  Eventually he did call, though, with Tc Td and found a race:  Ahrt Js.  All clear til the river, when the Ace came to keep John in and take a chunk out of Iwan's stack.

Okay, after the usual bickering and quarreling that the topic of money tends to bring up, the 6 remaining players have decided upon a deal.

R Mulla -- £25k
J Exley -- £22k
P Johnstone -- £14k
I Jones -- £18k
M Cavanagh -- £17k
M McCloskey -- £14k

That leaves 20k extra to the winner.

As Snoops says, they're still playing pretty tight - wish I'd seen a single face-up card to tell you about in the last 10 mins or so, but no, not possible.  Mick McCloskey and Paul Johnstone have made the all-in push, but no one wanted to tango.

Title: Re: Blackpool Main Event Day Two Live Update

We need a JP Kelly or an Ali Mallu to mix it up on there.

Post by: snoopy1239 on May 08, 2006, 01:55:53 AM
Martyn Cavanagh finishes in 6th position winning £17,000

And just like that (hey, I sound like Tommy Cooper), we have an exit.

Classic coin flip situation.

Martin raises to 66k from trap 2.

Mulla swiftly announces all-in.

Martyn calls after a a short dwell.

Mulla = Jc Js

Cavanagh = Aspades Kc

Board = 7d Qd 6d 5h 9c

Down to 5.

Title: Re: Blackpool Main Event Day Two Live Update
Post by: Djinn on May 08, 2006, 01:56:56 AM
Double up for Paul Johnstone - Aspades 9h vs Iwan's Kc Tc.  Ace on the flop, and although a tempting gutshot gave a glimmer of hope on the turn, it was not to be, so it's another bite out of Iwan.

A 'Kick in the testicles' hand now.

Mick (cut-off) = Ahrt Td

Paul (small blind) = Ac Qh

Both all-in.

Board = 3d Ts 3c 8s 3s

Not that it matters, but Iwan would have hit quads... but I don't think he's that mad.

Crushing blow for Paul Johnstone who had only moments earlier won the chips he just gave away.

He's now down to 25k and on the verge of taking 5th place.

Incidentally, with just 26 players remaining in the £100 freezout, noflopshomer is still plugging away.

£4,200 to the winner.

Good luck, sonny.

Amazingly, there has been only one confrontational hand, in which Paul moved in with Ks Jc and got called blind by Mulla in the big blind with 8h 4h.
Board:  9h Qd 5s 5c 5h  and that double up has kept him in, still.  But the chips are thus:

Mick McCloskey   320,000
Iwan Jones        280,000
Paul Johnstone     14,000
John Exley          275,000
R. Mulla              695,000

Paul Johnstone is OUT in 5th position and wins £14,000

Down to the felt anyhow, but it finally went in with 7-5. John Exley and R Mulla checked it out in the blinds. Paul didn't pair up and that was that.

Unfortunately, noflopshomer has crashed out of the £100 freezout.

A-Q v K-J v 9-9

The nines somehow managed to hold-up.

Good effort tho from the blondeite.  :respect:

Title: Re: Blackpool Main Event Day Two Live Update

And almost immediately, Iwan Jones goes out in 4th place, winning £18,000

With most of the chips sat in front of Mulla, he raised to 40k.  Iwan decided to put the pressure on him to call with  2s 2c - he did, with Ahrt Qs.

And flopped the broadway straight.

No late-night luck for Iwan, and although he would have been happy with fourth place when on a tiny stack earlier in the day, it's never nice to lose a biggish stack.  Still, his nice cash should make him feel better.

Congrats to Paul - unfortunate that he lost so many chips with AQ v AT - those situations are always annoying, but moreso at crucial stages of big comps like this.

Anyway, tell him well done from all his mates up north - great updating as usual btw guys!  ;D

Well, friends, a further deal pretty much signals the end being nigh:

The 'extra' £20,000 has been split -

Mulla  +£9,500
Mick McCloskey  +£6,000
John Exley  +£4,500

So wait for the official result, coming soon...

Mick McCloskey is OUT in 3rd place and wins £20,500

Mulla raised from the button with K-J off, Mick reraised from the small blind with A-Q suited. Mulla called with conviction.

Flop = Kc 5h 7c

Mick announced all-in, and Mulla called instantly.

Turn = 6d

River = 2h

John Exley is now in posession of a messily-stacked 380,000.  The rest is sat in a big lump in front of Mulla... we await the trophy determination, but kind of know who we'd bet on at this point...

After a couple of hands, the general trend of which was raise from Mulla, all-in from John, pass, it happened again -

Preflop R. Mulla raised 30k, John just moved on in, and, looking a little fatigued, Mulla called with Td 4d.  But John had the rather dominating Tc Th!  So double up, and the heads up goes on...

Hi all, it's Homer here. Knackered, (but most likely not half as tired as Jen and Snoops who are doing a sterling job). I got stuck with three tables left with about 21k 1500/3000 blinds, automatic push with AQ and got called by 99 and a very short stack with KJ, flop failed to show a card above an eight. 60k pot would have been nice but the blinds were just going up too quick. The event itself sold out with 140 runners so it's good practice for Luton and Southampton. :)

Also I was very lucky to spend a good half hour with Joe Grech who regaled me with tales of poker, Vegas and more poker. Top man to chat to.

Anyway I'm off home now. (No idea how Snoops and Jen manage....)

Title: Re: Blackpool Main Event Day Two Live Update
Post by: snoopy1239 on May 08, 2006, 03:08:23 AM
Bit quiet after John's double up - they just aren't throwing the ol chips in the way we thought might happen.

Very very cagey flopped trips for John, check-calling minimum bets and then checking the river, with Mulla checking behind.  So a small pot which could have been a big one.

Then 140,000 taken down by Mulla on a Ac 2c 4s Ahrt board after a check-check on the flop.

There appear to be quite a few Mulla supporters on the upstairs rail, which gives quite a nice balcony view over the final table.  Nice set-up.

The chips have oh so slowly evened out, so it's about 760,000 for Mulla, to 780,000 for John.  There's either going to be one heck of a big pot soon or this will go back and forth for a couple of days.

This has been a pretty unusual final all round - from the double dealing to the unexpected reversals of fortune...

Mulla loses another chunk just now calling around 100k on an Ad 6d 7c flop, only to pass on the Kd turn, saying, "I need a nine!" and showing 8c Tc.  Don't ask me...

I ended up leaving Blackpool at 5am this morning, I had busted out of the comp at about 2am, but felt an urge to stick around with Kev, Jen, Snoops and Jon Raab and watch the final til it's completion. Plus, lack of sleep, food and drink makes all three of them act a lot funnier. :D

The only hand I can recall from HU play was a very odd one where Mulla calls from the button, (this was when he the chip lead) blinds 10k/20k and Exley checked:

Flop:

 Ad 8d 8c

Exley checks, Mulla bets 20k, Exley calls.

Turn:

 7c

Exley checks, Mulla bets 20k again, Exley calls.

River:

 6h

Exley checks, Mulla checks and shows  Aspades 3c Exley shows  8h Td!!!!

It was also good meeting Suited Jock and Mike Lacey (luckyblind) and the rest of the Irish contingent, including a guy called Dave whom I shared two tables with in the £100 comp and kept me laughing throughout.
Finally thanks to Yogi, who had said when I'd asked about the Sunday comp that he didn't think it would sell out, yet it did so at least an hour and half before it started!

Thanks for all the support, it really meant a lot. Well done to snoops and Jen for keeping the friemds and family updated. Great week also for Micky McCloskey, two third places for over €25k!

Also great to meet some more blondes such as NoFlops, The Nun, Ewan Jones et al. Cheif railer Kev's free drinks vouchers much appreciated.

Feel sorry for TK, poker is a cruel game, thought I was a goner until lady luck stepped in with a runner runner.

Trevor Reardon is a gent, I was sat next to him for half of the first day and all of the second, he never stole my blinds once. In seriousness though, he and all the other blonde-ites I met were great ambassadors for the game.

See you all again soon.

Thanks Mike. In truth, the beat you put on me was not that great, it was just the mannerr of it that was so unexpected! I was about 55% pre-flop, 75% on the flop, & 80% on the turn, but you still had a lot of outs, I just never foresaw the runner-runner straight!

You played great, & deserved to do better than you did, but if the cards don't come, what can you do?

Hi BA,

Yes, we're scheduled in for Paris, but nothing has been cemented officially yet. We always try to remain flexible.

I'd like to see Jen play, but these buy-ins add up after a while...

Hopefully see you there.
