Message sent to you follows: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ World Poker Association Newsletter May 2006 It has certainly been a long time in the making, but it is with great pleasure and appreciation that I welcome all of you to the World Poker Association. I am pleased to announce our membership count is approaching the century mark including 14 founding members and a strong representation of international players ranging from the UK, Netherlands, Australia, Germany and Sweden. I hope to see this number grow exponentially in the coming weeks and I encourage all of you to harness your poker channels and get the word out to other potential members. I am always looking for new and different ways to reach out to the poker masses, so please feel free to share your ideas with the WPA. Since its debut at the end of March, the WPA has enjoyed some very positive media coverage including numerous reprints of the inaugural press release, and original articles from ESPN’s very own Steve Rosenbloom, and Chuck Blount at the San Antonio Express, In Business Las Vegas, Poker News, Bluff, Poker Player, InsideEdge, and Poker Listings to name a few. News of the WPA has also sparked discussion in the blogosphere among fans, amateur, and professional poker players. In a poll conducted on the Blonde Poker message board, a resounding 90.6 percent of voters favored the idea of a governing body of tournament poker. Ken Lennaard has accepted the Chair of the International Committee. Steve Brecher has accepted the Chair of the Website Committee. Chris Bigler and John Veltheer have joined the Membership Committee. Watch for upcoming news about new membership developments. We will be offering voting and non-voting classes of membership. Ongoing conversations are taking place with key organizations about aligning with or joining the WPA. The next step for the WPA will be in Las Vegas at the World Series of Poker. The WPA will have a major presence with two booths, one during the five day Lifestyle show July 27-31 and the other outside the tournament room June 26-August 10 in the Rio that will last through the duration of the WSOP. We will have membership applications and online registration available. WPA style card guards will be given to every voting member who joins during the WSOP. I am currently looking for people who may be able to help man the booths and engage others about the importance and benefits of becoming a WPA member. Starting June 26 through August 10 from 10:30 am to 8:30 pm help is needed. I am allotting 2 hour time slots for volunteers 8:30-10:30 10:30-12:30 12:30-2:30 2:30-4:30 4:30-6:30 6:30-8:30 Donate generously of your time. Email info@wpapoker.com with your commitment for as many 2 hour slots you can give stating which days and hours. This is the first installment of the WPA Newsletter, a monthly bulletin of news and updates about the progress of the WPA and the pertinent issues surrounding tournament poker. If you have any questions contact me directly. I look forward to seeing you all at the WSOP and on the WPA forums to continue discussing ideas and issues with your fellow members. Thank you, Jesse Jones Title: Re: Oooh Errr, Yanks have heard of us. Post by: TightEnd on May 08, 2006, 01:40:42 PM actually, I voted in favour of moving the shortstack.
