Title: Vienna - The EPT FINAL
Post by: tikay on March 12, 2005, 12:52:14 PM
OK, bear with me while I get you up to speed.

El Blondie & Mrs C have gone back to England, so the 'ol fella is in charge today, & I will be giving you live updates from start to finish. The Final is due to start at 5pm Local, that 4pm UK. Newcastle counts, for the purpose of time, as UK. (Afternoon to YOU Mr Citrone...).

So what sort of line up have we got? Pretty cosmopolitan I'd say.

2 Brits, both, oddly, from the North West. One a regular & popular circuit player, the other a guy I don't know, I suspect he's an online player. Still a nice guy, like, but I don't know the fella.

An Austrian. That'll keep the locals happy, if my growing suspicion that Viennna is actually in Austria turns out to be correct.

A Swedish guy. And a Norweigan. Uh-uh, the regulation contingent of Scandies. Tell you what, these travelling Scandies (that assumes Vienna is not in Scandialand) are lovely guys. A big mob of 'em in Walsall cheered their 2 Finalists all the way, & I suspect they will do the same today.

Two American gentlemen, at least one of whom is actually a really pleasant & wel-mannered, even likeable, individual. Not too many Americans you can say THAT about - or so I am told.

And a Frenchman. Hmm. Well, what do you expect me to say, eh?

OK, seating order & stacks. There are 2,970,000 chips in play, so average is about 370,000. Blinds are a horrendous 5,000-10,000, plus a running ante of 1,000, and I suspect the next level will be 7,500-15,000 and a 1,500 running ante. Not sure of the rights & wrongs of it, but if we wanna see a decent Final, it'd be worth dropping the blinds back a few levels. I suppose the big stacks would object to that, eroding their advantage & all that, & I guess they'd not be wrong.

Seat 1, 129,500 chips, is Austrian Joachim Sanestra. Seems to be something of a 7 Card Stud specialist, not surprising, as 7CS is very popular out here, there were 6 or 7 cash games being spread in it here last night. Joachim has 3 or 4 Stud Finals to his credit, plus a few other odds & ends.

Seat 2, 152,500 chips. Tim Ramsay. An American who qualified via PokerStars online. Nice, well-presented, well-mannered, personable young man. Don't know anything about his history, but I suspect he has no Bricks & Mortar track record.

Seat 3, 287,000 chips. Dave Clayton, who I am told is a Blackpool lad. Stocky, about 30 maybe, fully kitted out in betfair apparel. I fancy he's qualified online via, err, betfair - smart boy, this tikay, eh? Typical Lancashire boy. Nice enough till you cross him, then he can turn. Involved in a bit of a hoohah yesterday when they were down to 10 players, and eventually, after quite a lengthy ruling from Thomas Kremser, & support from 2 or 3 of the players, the ruling went in his favour. His argumentative foe decided to prolong the verbals, so Dave responded "oi, for **** sake, the rulings been given, now get on with the ******* game - are you calling or passing?". Right. You know where you stand with these Lancashire lads, eh? He was desperately unlucky earlier, when he had almost the ultimate in poker orgasmic experiences. Dealt KK, & a geezer raised into him - whahoo! And at THAT moment, just as Dave was poised to move in, chips already being pushed, & mouth forming the words "RERAISE", that the dealer realised that a player who had just been moved to that table had sat in the wrong seat. Thomas Kremser ruled that the hand was void. "Action has taken place" chorused the railbirds & players. Thomas says "nope, there needs to be TWO actions for it to count as "action". Well, there you go, but Dave took it without a murmer, well, just a little murmer, but good as gold really, considering.....

Seat 4, 641,500 chips, Pascal Perault. Big - BIG - Frenchman, well known on the Euro Circuit, & a regular at the Aviation in Paris. Wears THE most horrendous shirts, they can only be American - you know, the sort of shirts that Howard Plant wears. Late forties, early fifties, balding, but what hair remains is tied in a bun. Had THE most extraordinary luck yesterday. Busted Noah Boeken with a regulation outdraw, OK, these things happen. But got ALL his chips in on a RR with KQ & ran into KK, it's gotta be said, that's goodnight Vienna. A flop of QQx said it all, though.....All his French buds were hooting & hollering, while the hapless KK man exited dumbstruck. Pascal piles his chips high, Marcel style, & spent the rest of the day lovingly tending the stack, admiring it from all angles, like you do when viewing a new car or summat. Cant say I blame him realy, it was a whopping stack.

Seat 5, 197,000 chips. Tim Schiffman, American. Don't know anything about the lad. Seemed nice enough as Americans go. Looks a bit startled & "lost" at the table, as if he does not quite know how he ended up sat there. Steals a lot - and I do mean a LOT. But overcooked it last half hour, the whole table had sussed him out, & he was RR'd all in FIVE hands in a row, wisely passing each time. The railbirds were saying he had "gone" & could not cope, but fair play to the lad, he clearly belonged to the try try & try again school. but when he starts all that R R R malarky today, he gonna meet resistance I fancy.

Seat 6, 301,000 Simon Nowab. Lovely lad, really lovely. Most of the circuit guys know Simon, but for those that dont do the ciurcuit, he's Burnley John's travelling companion, & "twin", they do everything together. Well, almost everything. He's a plumpish lad of Asian origins, as nice as they come, plenty of banter & great company. Solid, solid, player. When he moves in, he's got the goods. Plenty of Finals around the UK, St Marteen too, but nothing major, today will be far & away his biggest payday. There wil be a roar whenever he takes a pot, he's a very popular lad, despite coming from Burnley.

Seat 7, 450,500 chips. Mikka Puru, Norweigan. Think that makes him a Scandie. An EPT regular, but no big scores so far. This lad looks the business to me. Good player, proper player. Makes his own decisions, & is happy to play down the streets. None of this "all-in, all-in, all-in" stuff. he likes to play properly. A class act in my opinion. Watch out, he will go close unless he gets a big outdraw. Good temprement, too. Most impressive. Handles himself well, too.

Seat 8, 821,000 chips, Andreas Harnemo. Swedish. No disrespect, but got hit by the deck yesterday. Big hand after big hand, and all his coin-flips held up. Not saying he cant play, but he had a years worth of good fortune yesterday. I don't have any history for the guy, & I have never seen him before. Nice demeanour at the table, about 30 years old at a guess. Don't smile a lot, but talkative & friendly off the table. His body language suggests live play is not his thing.

OK, there you go.

Who's gonna win it? No idea, but I fancy Simon Nowab & Mikka Puru will both do well. And, to be truthful, I HOPE they do. We discovered at Walsall, that much of blondepoker's site traffic during live updates comes from Scandinavia, so we wanna keep them in, eh? And the two Brits, naturally. Truth to tell, I hope the guy who plays best wins, no matter who he is or where he comes from.

Well, whatever, well done & good luck to every one of them. And for those of you at home, enjoy the blondepoker Live Updates.

If you know anything about any of the finalists that will be of interest to our readers, post it on this thread please. And when we are under way, give us some feedback, some comments, it helps to know you guys are sat there watching.

Enjoy!

ty tikay, excellent report to set the scene. I have to say, as far as your poker ability is concerned, your getting better at writing about it.

Thank you Red-Dog. That the guy who aint actually a very good player?

And for those that read my preview earlier, sorry it did not make a lot of sense the way it ended - but I pressed the send button by mistake before I'd finished. Red-Dog never realised that. He struggles with the old reading lark.

To add a few words about Joachim Sanejstra, he is a legend aroung these parts (Austria that is).

Tikay is dead right when he calls this guy a 7 Card Stud Wizard. Sanejstra finished in 3rd place in both the 7CS events at the Austrian Classics (June) and Austrian Masters (October) last year, but he walks in the shadow of another Austrian, Siegfried Stockinger!

Sigi has WON (Yes, Won) THREE of the last FOUR Austrian 7 Card Stud Championships in Salzburg. How good is that?

In Soccer terms, It's just like watching Brazil !

Right, the intros are over, cards will be in the air very soon. Ian James is the dealer, & Thomas Kremser is MC & TD, smartly bedecked in a black suit, white shirt, & Austrian flavour tie.

Button began on seat 7. First hand, all passed to the BB - easy game!

Next hand, the small blind makes up, and Anders on the Button bets 37k, all over.

Title: Re: Vienna - The EPT FINAL
Post by: tikay on March 12, 2005, 04:27:41 PM

Next hand, Anders makes it 41k to go, Tim Ramsey moves all-in, Anders shows a bare A & passes.

Warming up now. Mika, one off the button, makes it 40k to go. Billy Big stack - Andreas - quickly makes it another 85k. Mike looks hacked off, but, after a long dwell, passes, and thats another 180k-ish potb to Andreas. He is sure setting out his stall to dominate.

Oh Tony
Dear Tony
How I like your profile pic
That nicotine soaked creature always gave me such a kick
I love that frightening monster with his pinpoint eyes of red
And he is oh so happy with Blondepoker on his head
Oh Tony
Dear Tony
How I shiver with delight
How I smile to see your message in the darkness of the night
My eyes are all a-twinkle, my breath I hold in bliss
When I feel the sweet vibration of your tender virtual kiss*
Oh Tony
Dear Tony
How I need you so, my dear
And I long to hear the words you text like whispers in my ear
I promise that I'll love you and I'll promise to be true
Just as long as you will let me keep on texting you
Oh Tony
Dear Tony
Only one thing makes me sad
Your live updates are wonderfull
But your poker is so bad

Josh Schiffman & Andreas clash now.

Josh gets all-in pre-flop with -Kc -Jc. Andreas calls with -Ac -Qc. Pot is about 600,000k!

Board comes -Jh, -5d, -As, -4c, -6h.

So Josh is OUT, and Andreas is MASSIVE.

UTG big-stack bullly Andreas opens for 55k, American Tim Ramsey goes all-in for 199,500, Andreas has alomg, long dwell.

And THEN he says to Tim - "you got pocket sevens?" - before eventually calling. Andreas shows his -Ac, -9s. Then, spookily, Tim turns over.....

-7h, -7h.......!

Board is -3s, -8c, -3d, -2s, and........-As....!

Tim is OUT 5th for 34,500 Euros.

Mika makes 45k to go. Andreas reraises 130k. Joachim, in the BB, has a long dwell, eventually moving all-in for 145. Mika passes, Andreas makes up the 15k, & it's on their backs.

Joachim -4h, -4d.

Andreas -Kh, -7c

Board is....

-Kc, -Jc, -Ad, -Kd, -2d.

And that's ANOTHER early bath, it's  CARNAGE out there.

Joachim out fourth for 40,800 euros.

I played in Vienna year before last got it to heads up with Pascal. He asked for a deal FOUR times and I refused. then it all went in... on there backs, I turned over ACE SEVEN spades, Pascal turned over 88. Just as the dealer was about to flop it Pascal shouted 'HOLD IT'.
Carlo he said I will still deal if you want... we can split the money 50/50 and he held his hand out to shake. How could i refuse? Anyway I said ok let the flop decide who gets the trophy? Fine he said..........He flopped quads!!!! A true gent in the game and I really hope he wins it

OK, the 500 Freezeout is down to 5 tables. Average is 11k right now.

I can see Willie Tann, Nic Szeremeta, Robert Binelli, Nick Whiten. Oh, and a lad in William Hill gear - Smokin Steve Vladar - and he has 22k - double average! Lets hear some encouragement for Steve. If the Main Event finishes quickly - looks like it will - and you are pretty pretty nice to tikay, we may even bring you that one, too.....

Money for the 500? Jeez, you boys don't expect much, do you? OK, I'll sort it shortly.

I just seen James Browning & Ivo Donev also in the 500.

There are 38 left in that one, but first, back to the Main Event.....

Pascal - 876,000

Mika, 356,500

Andreas - 1,737,500.

The 500 Freezeout is on a short break right now. In addition to those I already noted, I just spotted WPT Hero John Gale, & online hotpot Elky.

There were 137 entries, 4k starting chips, total chips in play is about 550,000, and the winners cheque will be some 25,000 euros.

Sunday's Monte Carlo super-sat in Vienna starts at 4pm local - that's 3pm english.

But no, sadly, I wont see you tomorrow 7djl, I am flying home in the morning. Kicking myself, too, cos I was aching to play Monte Carlo, but there you go, I cant justify forking out 7k. I need to go home for a day or two, I am knackered, & need to catch up on some stuff, so that's the "last chance" super-sat" outa the window.

But never mind, 'cos I WILL be in Monte Carlo to do the updates, so let's hope it's as good as it promises to be. I think it will be a cracker.

Title: Re: Vienna - The EPT FINAL
Post by: tikay on March 12, 2005, 07:29:52 PM

The EPT has just started after lunch. Mika raised all-in first hand, Pascal let go.

He has to get busy now.

Next hand, Mike raises again, but Pascal's having none of it, he makes it 110k, Pascal goes all-in, Mika calls.

Must be two monsters.....

Mika shows -4s, -4d

Pascal shows -Qh, -Qs.

Flop is -8d, -8c, -5d,

Turn is -8s, so Mika is drawing dead.

River, -Kc.

So my bet, Mika, is OUT third for 51,800.

That leaves Pascal & Andreas heads-up.

Chip counts shortly.......

Title: Re: Vienna - The EPT FINAL
Post by: tikay on March 12, 2005, 07:33:34 PM

Chip counts for the EPT Main Event.......

Andreas 1,736,000

Pascal, 1,241,000

So who is your money on NOW?

Title: Re: Vienna - The EPT FINAL
Post by: tikay on March 12, 2005, 07:37:56 PM

Sunday's Monte Carlo Super Sat here in Vienna has 1,000 starting points. You can rebuy once you are down to less than 1,000 - effectively 975, and DOUBLE rebuy if you lose all your stack at any time. At the freeze, there are TWO add-ons available if you wish, plus a rebuy, plus ANOTHER rebuy if you have lost all your stack on the last hand. That last hand gonna be LAIRY.......

Should make PLENTY of seats, eh?

Title: Re: Vienna - The EPT FINAL
Post by: tikay on March 12, 2005, 07:46:01 PM
Andreas makes it 60k on the button.

Pascal calls.

Flop -8h, -Qc, -Kh.

Check check.

Turn -7h.

Pascal checks, Andreas makes it 35k, Pascal quickly calls.

River -5h.

Check check.

Pascal shows -Ac, -4s.

Andreas shows -9s, -5d.

So Andreas caught his Rag 5 on the river for a 200k-ish pot. Quality starting hands is the key, eh?

Now Pascal opens for 35k, Andreas just calls. Flop is....

-Qs, -2c, -Kd.

Check check.

Turn -9d.

Andreas bets 50k, Pascal raises another 300k. Andreas folds, showing -6d, -6h.

So he CAN pass. Clearly, Pascal had a monster.

As Pascal rakes the pot in, he shows

-Js, -4h.

Nice Bluff Mr French Gentleman!

BIG pot goes down here...

Andreas makes it 50k to go, Pascal RR 150k, Andreas calls.

Flop -9d, -9s, -7h.

Andreas checks, Pascaql bets 100k, Andreas raises 270,000, Pascal IMMEDIATELY announces  all-in, Andreas mucks in a flash.

So now they are level in chips!

HUGE pot.

Pascal opens for 60k, Andreas calls.

Flop -4d, -7h, -3d.

Andreas checks, Pascaql bets 150k, Andreas quickly RR to 400,000, Pascal goesall-in. BIG dwell by Andreas, he calls.

Pascal has -9c, -9d.

Andreas -Jc, -7s.

Turn -Kh,. river -3c

Pascal takes a HUGE pot, and Andreas is crippled now with 246,000, Pascal about 2,720,000.

These boys must have a train to catch, it's another all-in.

Andreas -7d, -6d.

Pascal -8d, -5h.

Board -5s, -Qc, -6s, -Ad, -Ah.

So Andreas takes it with his undercard, & he's up to 380,000 now. Not dead yet.....

Title: Re: Vienna - The EPT FINAL

Now we have an all-in pre-flop. On their backs.

Andreas, -Kd, -Jd.

Pascal, -As, -Js.

It comes....

-Qc, -Qs, -6c, -7h, -4h.

So we have a winner, and it's PASCAL PERAULT.

Andreas takes 101,400 for second, and a Monte Carlo seat.

Hmm, many, many moons methinks.....

The 500 boys have been on break, but have just restarted. Blinds now 4k-8k, antes 1k. Still 6 left. Willie seems ro have about 90k - but that's according to Greg Hill - and we know what HE is like with keeping scores.....

Ironside - you not heard of Greg "Junior" Hill, runner up at Walsall last week, blonde contributor, & +2 golfer? Huh.

The stacks are all about the same, this baby is anyone's. But it surely cant last much longer, and there is bound to be some sort of chop.

Well you are right Dave, but it don't matter now - Willie just busted out in a real ugly one.

He moved in with TT, and got called by someone with A-7 - A-7 FFS! - a real Penly hand. Geezer missed his A, quite right too, drawing to a 3 outer. But he caught two 7's.....

How sick is THAT?
