Ok, we are safely set up at The Vic, whichb has been magically transformed overnight into a little TV Studio. Soon as Jen arrives (she's does not so much sleep, as hibernate) we will try & get some photos of the set-up here.

For those that know The Vic, The Final will take place on the 2nd Floor, in the far corner of the room. An area of about - well, squash court size, but not quite so symmetrical - has been curtained off, & so it appears there will be limited facility for spectators, maybe 20. But maybe the TV peeps will put a feed on the internal TV's here.

Inside the curtained area is a TV Table - proper job, spyhole cameras, the lot - with a zillion wires & cables hanging from undeneath it. The players seats appear to be red leather Barstools - no armrests, but swivellers - to a white backdrop, a sort of hoarding, with the logos of "THE GROSVENOR VICTORIA" and "BLUE SQ POKER". It is VERY hot in here already, & will be worse when they close the curtained "doorway".

There are TV Techies everywhere, running around with plugs and leads and cables. In fact, it looks chaos! A producer chappie is just explaining to all the TV Crew "how poker works". Truly! He is giving a crash course to his cameramen & sound men. I guess this TV Crew have never done Poker before. "This is the button, the idea of the button is to"......."and they have a Small Blind and a big Blind".....they all get dealt 2 cards, and after a round of betting, the dealer deals the flop".......

The TV Crew seem to number about 12.

The Casino Manager said "don't forget we start on time, sharp at 3pm", to which TV Man said, "dunno about that Guv, more like 4 I'd say".....I hope that's not the case - Grosvenor have got every single comp away smack on time this week, all credit to them.

Just seen Edward Moncada, who impressed us greatly yesterday, he played terrific poker. He's the guy who won (I thinkj) the $2k Pot Limit Hold 'Em Bracelet at this years WSOP. I said "where is your Bracelet Ed?".  He said "I gave it to my father for Fathers Day". Ahh, how nice is THAT? Add him to my list of favourites, just for that. He's a starange guy, in that he's American, & likeable. Very unusual.

Yes Kev, it usually has a 16 or 20 page Poker section, although next weeks issue (Friday) will only have a 12 page section. That's because it's part of a bigger publication, "Sport First & Football First", and this week sees the start of the football season, so presumably there is pressure on space.

And before anyone implys covert spamming, yes, I do write for Poker First, & usually get a few pieces published in there each week.

All I can say is I hope the format me and Junior sorted for the first casino challenge is followed through. We were there at the start and we will wait for our rematch with grace, dont keep us waiting to long (Im thinking next months festival in Blackpool?). I will obviously be standing aside as the team manager as all losing managers do but I will nominate one of the other founders of the challenge to take over- Burnley John step forward. Hopefully he can pick a better lineup than I managed (and for gods sake john include the nuggett or he wont speak to you for 6 months either).

hum if you leave out howard he might not talk to you for 6 months that might also mean no shouting during tournys could be a blessing for all of us

I would say the only four gauranteed seats are burnley,chubbs,womble and howard as the players who have represented blackpool at so many festivals worldwide over the last few months. The other slots should all be up for grabs.

I have 2 dogs and a cat Tikay, they all understand poker very well and recognise the signs. When they hear "just dont put a 7 there......oh you fkkjjkbgjkkjj etc" they run for cover- nearest object gets kicked and they make sure its not them.

Just spoken to Stuart Nash, he's down to the felt, but is guaranteed 13k come what may. Not like him to be short-stacked, but he battled all day yesterday & made the Final eventually, terrific stuff. He's a genuinely nice guy, too. He said he's "relatively new" to tournament poker. Not doing bad then, is he? I think he's made 8 Festival Finals in 2005 alone, at a guess.

Not played there for a while but it used to be my regular game. Have spent the last 12 months chasing the dream on the main circuit but I will be returning to blackpool scene in the next week or 2 . Name is Russ Cawley and Im easily recognised by the picture on the left. Fridays and Saturdays may be difficult as I usually have my son on those days- I will be a regular at the 30 n/l game that is starting on Sunday evenings. I am not sure but I think this is the first regular n/l game to be run in this country.

Last time I was there was the festival in May (or was it April?) where I played all the events bar the Omaha. I am playing tomorrow evening I think as I now need to get some wages (playing the big events sure kills the bankroll quickly) and I will be qualifying for the Grand Prix through Blackpool as well. Just look for the quiet guy at the table who everybody knows as a rock and who only ever raises with aces....I will be sat next to him with a big stack. ;D

No players have entered the Arena yet, they are all patiently (or impatiently) waiting to get started. Plenty of running round with bits of gaffer tape by the TV guys, but no sign of action.

dont know how they can get away with it, surely the players are nevers (excuse spellin) and haveing to waite another 45 mins is terrible, they obviously have no idea what it is like to be one of the players there,  dont care how much experience you have when you are in a major final is bad enough but to make you waite for somert or nout is terrible,  the tv guys should of had the place ready for 2pm ready to start at 3

The Tv crews normally listen to the players. After my AK had been beat by 8T in my live BPO heat they went to commercial and I went for a cig and was joined by 2 of the other players. The producer said you only have 2 minutes lads to which I replied you only have 3 players if you dont want to wait for us. He said what did I want him to do to fill the time and I suggested they gave Carlo a couple of cards and ask him for a decision  ;) They didn't restart the game without us surprisingly.

The players have been allowed On Set where it's all bright and shiny.  I heard them being told off, as "white is not a good colour for TV.  Grey is great."  They are doing tests to determine how they'll look when the cameras get going.

Jen back - I waltz back to the blonde update corner just as someone mutters, "shuffle up and deal," and they're away.

The hole card camera lighting which has been causing so much trouble for the players and crew wasn't working on a hand just now where Tony G. raised to 9,000 only to pass to a re-raise from Sverre Sundbo.  So it will remain a mystery exactly what he had... this problem will be irrelevant once the first player gets knocked out as only one card-viewing window thingy is not working.

Pause as they fiddle with stuff.

Some bright spark suggested that Tony G could just tell them all what he had after every hand.  I am not sure how much accuracy that would be sacrificing - and anyway it looks like the problem is now fixed.  They're dealing.

First couple of hands see Peter Roche getting a big blind walk, and Tony G take one down with an UTG raise.  He's revving the chat motor too.

In this quiet moment I feel it might be appropriate to mention that two out of three of my picks are still there - Mr Roche and 'Norway,' as Tikay refers to him.

Viktor Kanwar is on Tony G's right, so they get into the small blind and big blind.  Vik limps in and Tony says something along the lines of "I told you I was going to raise your blind every time," throwing in a 10,000 raise.  He calls.  The raggy flop  sees a 20,000 bet from Tony and a pass...

Ready for restart, and the muttering players sit back down.  It's not really the fault of Grosvenor - this set was created at very short notice and the players are kind of stuck in an ongoing rehearsal.  It looks to be all OK now, however.

I know it's horrible and against the spirit of the game but i really hope tony g gets his gob going, he is so obnoxious (epo v sunar) but it makes great viewing. ;) ;)

There is no doubt that Sverre Sundb, the norwegian guy will have no respct for Tony G. Sverre eats bullys for breakfast. Wolf in sheep clothing. I can only wish Tony G the best of luck.

They've changed dealers, and the new one isn't mic-ed properly. Sorry we're a little hand history thin but this is all that's happening here at the minute...

I agree that it is fun entertainment with Tony G, but I think it also will be quite cool to look at his face after he realizes that The Midnight Sun just melts him.

Rudling showed KQ on a Q 7 8 flop, and we think Tony G had 9 10 (although there is no announcing going on in here and we can't get that near the table).

This is the same Sverre Sunbo that gotbest buddy with mike the mouth while sitting at the same table in this years wsop. Goes to show that a bit of trash talk is not bothering Sverre.

Sverre has an amazing tendancy to take trash and translating it into dance, and Tony G and other "wannabee" bullies will just be thrown over Sverre's shoulder and end up in the corner sounding like small infants with no teeth.

Did Sverre by any chance develop his skills for playing against trash talkers while at the same table as your good self, Woody? ;D

Yep it was a sell out, I spent 2 days at the Vic, didn't think about buying in early and left it to the day before, slept in, got there with a minute or so to spare and only got 4th on the reserve list, not good enough.

Never mind, caught up with the update now.

Stuart Nash is all-in on the small blind. Sverre Sundbo puts in 200k just to make sure they're heads up... but they've both got AQoff!
5 9 K 10 A gives them, as expected, a small profit of half the antes...

Blinds at present: 1,500 - 3,000 with a 200 ante

Board comes 10 8 3 K 9 after they're all on their backs, meaning that Angelo triples up (I think he might have said something like "Baby!"), while David Rudling's A9 takes the side pot.

With one elimination, the players are shuffled closer together which receives another chorus of 'boo's as their priorities clash slightly with TV's.  Nevertheless, they're back and playing.

Sorry Kev, the codger (sic) has the only laptop here so we're taking turns on it covering this event.  No wifi here either so we're using that sim card thing which is nice and slow, not to mention the fact that the other comp is taking place downstairs... Heres something. After 6 "mini breaks" in the first level - which started over 2 hours late - they have announced a 10 minute break at the end of this level, and a 90 minute break (may be reduced to 60 minutes) Dinner Break at the end of the second level.

I kid you not.......

Moncada? He's just letting thed children squabble, while he sits back & assesses the situation.  He is a VERY good player, IMO, quite exceptional.

Good to see someone is updating this tourney too. I read with amusement and amazement about all the troubles the film crew had on setting up the final table. NOW - I know its hard to get a chip count in these televised events, but can somebody go bribe the producer to at least give us an overview!!????

What is the status??

Hi everyone.  It's me Ed Moncada, just wanted to thank tikay and jen for doing such a great job out at the European Poker Championships.  It was a little heart breaking to loss with the JJ, but oh well.  I managed to get lucky once or twice along the way so i really can't complain too much.  It was a fun tourney, and I was very impressed with plenty of the Europeans I came up against throughout the way.  Tony plays great poker.  He was tough, in fact in my pre-final table interview he was the guy I mentioned I was concerned of the most.

Well I wish everyone the best of luck at the tables, and you'll be sure to see me again at some of these final tables out here in europe.
