There are no twin rooms left.

I have booked a double anyway for the extra £10 a night for Saturday and Sunday, and they are going to leave a note on my booking to swap to a twin if any become available.

So, if any women want to share and don't mind the possibility of maybe being in the same bed give me a shout.

OK, I just booked at The Village.

"Reservations please"

"Just hold on Sir".

"Future Reservations speaking". (Future?.....)

"I'd like a single room for Saturday 9th September please".

"Name?"

"Kendall"

"How do you spell that?"

"K E N D A L L"

"Is that your first name, or Surname?"

"Surname".

"It's £80".

"Can I use the Grosvenor Casino Rate please?"

"Can you spell Grosvenor?"

"GROSVENOR"

"I am afraid we don't have any normal single rooms left at £80. You can have an Upgraded Double Room though".

"How much is that please?"

"£70".

"Eh?"

£70".

"OK"

"Smoking or non-smoking?"

"Smoking please".

"We don't have any smoking"

"OK, non-smoking".......

What is your name?"

"It's still Kendall".

"Is that your surname or first name?"

"It's still my surname".

"How do you spell it?".........

And so it went on.

I guess this is what happens when one gets old & crusty.

Behave Ralph, I'm in enough trouble already!

What i cant believe is that pre deal you could get the room for £50, after the deal its £70. What are they trying to pull!

They re not, imo, trrying to "pull anything, they are just not terribly well organised.

There, but for the grace of God, go you or I.......

Pre deal they were empty-ish for that weekend, hence £50

Now they have all of us ringing, plus a wedding plus another function.....supply and demand...

They are nearly full..£70 is a decent rate for the best hotel in the area.....

Please perservere with central reservations...they are not the brightest sparks as many PMs to me attest to!

Lol Suaznne, I booked mine about 3 hours ago and it was £75.  They said there were no standard rooms left I had to have a Supreme one at £75.  Confused and perplexed?

I read tikay's post before I called them just now.

Here's a rough idea of our telephone conversation

Can I make a booking please, double for 9th Sept

Certainly Sir....... that's £97.50

I have a code to give you, Grosvenor Casino

Oh ok, they used to have a poker rate I think..... I can't see anything

Look again, it's there

Fair enough that's £80

Try again

no, that's what it says.

Let me read you a text of a conversation (read out portion's of tikay's post, not much but enough to make him laugh)

Oh I see (giggle), what's his name, I'll check what rate they gave him

(I give him the name)

Oh I found it now. OK. no problem, that'll be £75 then.

Think again, it should be £70

Oh yes, that's what he got. I'll tell you what I'll add your room to his reservation as well to get the same price

Suits me, however you do it.

Good, can I have your Credit Card details

Didn't Tony give you his

Yes but you'll be paying for your own room

Oh OK then

Final comment from me was to stock up the bar with Red Bull and get more staff on from 4.00am

Agreed m8 its a nice hotel and still a good price. I just can't see that in the 2 days between when we booked and then the deal was done that the price went up that much!

I've just checked - it is indeed £100 for a two night stay room only, £120 B+B and £140 B+B+dinner.

I think I'm going to give them a ring and see if I can cancel and rebook on the internet!

Humph.  Just called and asked to be put through to reservations - certainly.  Transfers me and I get a message saying they are shut for the night and ring back tomorrow.

I must say it seems like they're trying to pull a bit of a fast one here, and this 'deal' isn't really much of a 'deal' at all!

Title: Re: Village Hotel: Deal for BB3
Post by: Laxie on July 18, 2006, 10:24:06 PM
They have a habit pulling of it.  Might be the nicest hotel in the area, but their idea of 'group discount' has been warped in the past too.  It also makes the organisers feel a bit let down (well, that's how I felt anyway).  Pity they don't have more appreciation for groups, but it'll bite them in the long run.  If you're not happy with the rate, best bet is to try the internet rate, but be warned...when they cop on to it, they'll up those prices too.

don't know why we're all getting different rates coming up!  Are you going through the motions as if you are going to book Mikky?  That's where I'm getting the £100 2 night rate.

Just  booked my room at the Village.  The guy on bookings took a while to sort out the Grosvenor code and he then asked me what price I was quoted, so I said £70.  Couple of minutes later, I'm booked in to the family room at £70 8)

But last time I looked (yesterday) the online rates are now dearer than the Grosvenor Casino rate.

My far more important question is - does the Village have a bar that show the football?

Liverpool are playing Everton at 12:45 and I was wondering if it was worth setting off early to watch the game near by.

Yep, there's a bar at at the hotel and there are a couple of pubs in Walsall Village as well, but not sure if any of them will be showing the match.  Just ask at the bar in the hotel and they'll turn it on for you if it isn't already.
