As the title says, we have decided to begin the main competition at bb3 at 4pm in consultation with the Grosvenor Walsall

Why have we done this?

Well it looks like we are going to get anywhere from 150-200 runners and we want to avoid very quick clocks/crapshoot type poker

A recent Walsall Saturday comp with 120 runners started at 6.30pm and finished just in time for the earlyish Sunday morning close

We wondered about having the final on the Sunday afternoon at 3pm but were mindful that some people may not be able to stay that long or indeed may not be booking hotel accomodation

So an early start with the usual blonde bash good clock and good starting chips seemed to us the better option than making it a two dayer or starting it at say 7pm and making the whole thing a rush

We hope this gives enough notice to those travelling from afar.

The comp will start at 4pm prompt...Yogi Blackpool style...!

What time do you reckon I should aim to get to the casino to get membership/registration sorted?

Membership at the front desk is a 5 minute job, registration into the comp is a 1 minute job...longer if everyone leaves it to the last minute and there are queues

Allowing time for a quick hello to people I would say be there by 3.30pm at the latest so its not a rush

Any chance of a 'friendly' HU match if I get there early Tighty? ;)

Tighty, I would check with J10 to see if they intend to open early for BB3.  When I used to play the 4:15 rookie comp on Saturdays the casino opened around 3:30 but that was only for the cardroom.  If there are 100+ new members to be processed before 4 it will take ages to process everyone as they only have 2 registration desks (and only 1 camera I think).  The link below allows anyone to pre register for membership of J10 which may speed things up.

Casino opened 2pm las time I was there on a Sat afternoon and said so on front door!

If you are a member at one Grosvenor Casino, are you a member at all?  I seem to recall signing up for one in Reading a few years ago when we went out for the night.  I've never had a card but I must be on the old database eh !

Also, do we need to bring id or anything to sign up?  It's been so long that I've been to a casino, I can't remember!

You can't put Dani and Zac under that pressure, not sure if the boys are up to it.

Only joking boys, wish i could be there, but its in a Grosvenor and they won't let me in for a few years yet, so I'm led to believe.

you can get in as a "guest" with a bank card but you need photo id to sign up as a member (government rules)

No such thing as a "guest" these days, you are either a member or nothing.

BTW i think it's wrong/daft/rediculous/out of order (delete as applicable) that you have imposed a start time like this without consultation.

Drivers Licennse is OK.

i think youll find they probably have consulted between all the orginisers of the event, to obtain maximum enjoyment out of the weekend.

a weekend of this magnitude, takes a hell of a lot of orginising and i dont think they are just going to throw any old time in there and see what happens im sure they've gone through every hour of the saturday to calculate the finest starting time...i couldnt imagine how hard it must be to try to fit all this in just 2 days along with special guests and TV crews etc etc

The Grosvenor website is notoriously temperamental

As to the start time, it was a complicated decision that we wanted to make as quick as possible to give everyone maximum notice but really wrestled with. Consultation is of course preferable. Indeed there is thread after thread on the bb3 board consulting!

However on this occasion due to the many people we were negotiating with...the casino, the conference people at the Village for the quiz room etc a quick decision was required

TightEnd cheers for the explaination but really, theres no need to justify yourself. The organisation of this magnitude speaks for itself. Of course one or two will not be happy but thats the way the cookie crumbles else the event wouldnt happen at all.

Come on Ian! You've had 2 Blonde Bashes on your doorstep & you still find something to complain about!

For some of us this is the second time we've travelled to Brum for a bash this year but we don't complain we're just glad to get plenty of notice so that we can make travel/drinking  arrangements.

Gail wont be fussed if she plays or not, she planned to but she may decide not to as she's not that confident.

It was a bit selfish, the thing is i only get the kids on a Saturday and not too regularly of late and when i spotted the start time it just peed me off cuz it's more Saturday kiddie hassle for me with the ex..............
