Boy, I'm gonna have to start getting up earlier. The traffic seems to be getting heavier and heavier.

What I like about this place though is that the taxi drivers are chatty and all look completely different. A broad range of characters. It's like a kids game of 'Guess Who'. My chauffeur this morning was an elderly black fellow with a deep Barry White voice, USA baseball cap, and a silver pony-tail. A real cool dude called Herbert.

Jen's out there collating info, as usual, and bringing it over my way. I think she should do both jobs though as she's better at counting chips AND reporting hands. Bah!  ;tk;

Guess I've got the crappy puns.  :(

Access isn't great for this Event as it's tucked away in the corner by the tv area, thereby resulting in just the one side of rail.

Players spotted are Matros, Jones, Gale, Citrone, Hansmeyer, and Hachem

Unfortunately, we can't seem to see Negreanu or Redmond, but their exits need to be confirmed.

sure, if I see him

It's difficult now as whenever a comp reaches 15 tables or less (yes, I know, kinda mean), they send me to the rail.

I try and sneak in though, the benefits of being wafer thin. Shame about the beacon hair tho! Doh

222 players left (which is cool, because it means we'll be able to nip in and grab some chip counts) with 11,418 the average stack.

Rumour has it that dpommo, badpab and Dubai are in this one.

How about this for a table??

Tex Barch
George 'The Tank' Danzer
Bruno Fitoussi
Mike Matusow
Andy Black
Mateyboy

Matyeboy's the 'name' here.

Anyhow, that list needs updating. George Danzer has just eliminating Andy Black, 8-8 v A-4, all-in preflop.

Some of you may recall Danzer from Barcelona, who made the heads-up semi-final. His running buddy is the ever-dangerous  Jan Heitman who caused a stir at the Vic, finally coming in second to John Kabbaj. A tough pair of Germans, watch out world!

Hi Snops and Jen, wish Rich (Squelch), Iwan and Jon (Decision) all the best for today. For those who don't know, Squelch is the fella who won the PokerStars big one a couple of weeks back, 262k with no deals cut, he's a form horse and a top fella as well. He is supposed to be over there early checking out the nightlife and 'entertainment' for our weekend arrival but I guess I'll let him off if he final tables.

Gl also to John Gale, top man and great player. Interestingly, you can back John at 40/1 to be the top Ladbrokes qualifier at the wsop, which with only 90 players is way too big. Admittedly ActionJack, Sealey, and of course me are all in there, but as a WPT winner and WSOP runner up last year 40s is far too big.

Go oooooooon the Brits (and Dec!)

Joe Hachem has around the 30k mark.

Meanwhile, Richard Redmond finds himself with A-K versus A-rag (not sure how that happened, although they were suited!)

King on the flop and Redmond is back up to 35-40k.

$5,000 6-H

Okay, I think this is how this hand played out...

Flop = Qc 3c Ad

Dubai checks, MB#1 bets 800, MB#2 calls, Dubai raises to 1600, both call.

Turn = 6c

Dubai checks, MB#1 bets, MB#2 & Dubai reluctantly fold, both claiming to have held 2 pair.

I'm sure Dubai will correct me if I'm off the mark with this one.

Padraig takes out a loud American in Seat 1.

Padraig raises to 70k utg, chip leader calls, Seat 1 moves all-in, so does Padraig, chip leader folds Jh Th (apparantly) after a very lenghty dwell indeed, even asking for stacks to be counted.

Anyhow, Padraig flips pocket queens, American youngster A-K

No Ace or King came (although turn brought a wheel draw), and Padraig doubles up.

down to 4

26 tables, 156 players, 16k av stacks

SO we're going to have a fun-time trade-off - he's so out of here by 11pm to go and play cards elsewhere.  When I boot him tonight, y'all have to help me get rid of th boy.

Having said that, I am off to get chip counts with a fervour never before experienced. ::)

Still 4 left, but Padraig is on a roll.

According to Lawrence Gosney, before the break, the Irishamn raised 11 hands in a row, all of which went uncontested.

And now, I've just seen him take another pot down.

Padraig raised preflop, MB stuck in another 75k, PP called.

Flop = Jh 5d 6c

PP checks, MB bets 75k, PP moves all-in.

MB thinks for a loooooooooooong time, before folding, showing the Js in the process.

PP shows Ac Jc

Gooooooooooooooooooooooooo Padraig!  ;cheerleader;

Padraig Parkinson just folded to an all-in from Seat 1 (Richard, I believe the announcer referred to him as).

Flop was 2d 5d 8s

Parkinson is still running well.

Incredibly, whilst he was thinking about whether to call or not, the fellow in Seat two was chatting away to his buddy on the phone, and the dude on the mic didn't do anyhting about it until just before Padraig folded.

It's also a shame that, like Gosney's last year, this final table isn't being filmed. It seems that the ones that the Europeans win never see the light of day. Aaaah well.

They say in poker that it's all about timing (aka luck), and just now my timing was impeccable.

I thought I'd take a quick snap of Joe Awada's highly impressive towers, and then, out of the blue, down they came.

Board = 6h Kc Ts 8s

Pot = 15-20k

MB bets 15k

Awada makes a deep reach

MB calls all-in

MB = Tc Th

Awada = Kd Qh

The latter was drawing dead, and now finds himself down to the felt.

Neighbours Hellmuth and Dubai (!) with stacks 20k (Phil) and 50k (Dave) - not a quiet table.  While I was standing there it was Hellmuth who kept the conversation going, with himself, while Dubai seemed uncharacteristically sedate.

Phil says, "Come on and deal 'em fast; I've been here 8 minutes and they've re-raised me three times already."  Here a finger gets waved in Dubai's general direction. :)

By the way (by the Rail anecdote coming) I saw Karl Mahrenholz sitting in one of those Money Collection chairs (where people struggle with the forms sneaking you out of tax if you hold a British passport) collecting his 47th place money from late late last night.  He went out in the last half hour (at which point I was actually asleep across two chairs in the Press Room - one of them was Snoopy's and instead of pushing me on the floor as I deserved, he brought another chair over and typed over my head) and he's flying home tomorrow.  Still has job, but got that dreamy look in his eye when I asked him when he was turning pro...

GO Padraig .... and Iwan.

Apparently Padraig has taken a chip lead!  Marvellous...the people in the Press Room who have heard of him are very complimentary of his writing style and sense of humour.  Quite a bit of support for him in here actually.  Snoops brings you more.

$2,500 PLH

Iwan Jones gets the Star Treatment (well, a pointy mic waved in his face) over in the PLH corner.  Here are my best shots of him, pre and post his noticing me waving at the rail.

I received that gesture too, I think it meant something else though...

Kenna James over in the NL area - last saw him, I think, in the Monte Carlo Millions, although he's very well known over here.  Do you think he developed his accessory affiliation from watching Brunson?

they're on a break, he's in the $5,000 6-handed

It's the $2,500 PLH that's the only one going, Jones, Gale, and Hachem still in.

Hence the tv cameras (for the latter that is, not Buzz)

$2,500 PL

Iwan Jones is OUT.

pocket fives vs pocket nines

no help

In Buzz's own words "The killer hand was when I had K-T. The flop was K-8-2, and there was a raise and another raise, so I let it go. Then I found out that the reraiser had K-9."

Dubai had 32k at the Dinner Break. The last hand before Dinner he was on 50k+ and lost a big pot to Hellmuth. On the turn Dubai had a flush, Hellmuth two pair, needless to say Hellmuth hit his 4-outer on the river >:(

And so the feature table can now transform into the more 'star-studded' $5,000 seven card stud final (Shiek, Caro, Violette, Miama John), the 3-handed $1,500 NL is being forced out of the limelight and into the slightly less thrilling setting you see below:

Icky Luck for El Blondie News Now:

He calls a big stack's raise from the big blind, and the flop comes 8c 7h Td.  Check from Dave, check from raiser.
Turn:  Js   Check from Dave, there comes a 2,000 bet at him, he calls.
River:  9c   And somehow it's Check - Check again, as Dave shows his (now) losing Th Jd and gets Jc Qc shown in return...

$5,000 6-H

During the break, el blondie expressed his shock at the demise of Jo Awada, a player who he holds in very high esteem.

Flop was K-T-rag

MB had raised preflop with tens, and Joe had called with K-Q

MB bets out, Jo raised, and MB reraised (!!), Jo then moved him all-in.

"What did he think he had??" remarked Dave.

Bumped into George Danzer who's not been having the greatest tournament series so far, and he said that Awada finally took him out when he moved tables (his first one being no less challenging, having Matusow, Bruno Fitoussi, Johansen and two other famous people on it).  It looked at that point that Joe Awada couldn't be stopped...just shows how in this format of game especially it can turn around in the shortest of moments.

Dubai -- 39k
John Duthie -- 36k
Phil Hellmuth -- 35.5k
John Juanda -- 39k
Evelyn Ng -- 45k
Robert Williamson -- 33k

Dubai is frequently reraising Hellmuth, and the Poker Brat is threatening to stick it back up him soon. Of course, no sign of any sticky itty backy uppy him-ness as of yet.

$5,000 6-H

blondeite, Dave 'The Rivercard' Brannan, is playing this one.

He was down to 3k at one point, but has managed to climb all the way back up to 23k after Mateyboy called his A-T all-in with K-T and, later, a flopped flush found a customer.

The $1,500 NL, $2,500 PL, and $5,000 6-H are all on a break, although the $1,500 Final looks braced to recommence and the Stud final is still in full swing.

$1,500 NL Final

And right after the break, on the ex-TV final table, Padraig Parkinson re-raises all in right away.  As the short stack, with blinds of 15k/30k ante 5k, he found Aspades 4s (I think those were the suits) and a bigger Ace called - the Ace on the board helped them both, and although there was a chance for a split when four hearts came in a row, the blank 3c on the river sealed his third place finish.

A cool $203,139.  Not bad for three days' work, huh?  And he's a cool customer too - here pictured in the break while they were transferred off the Limelight Table.  He said he likes those TV tables, because he's so unfazed by it all (been there, done that) and just gets on with it without being overwhelmed.  But he admitted at this point that the blinds were "silly" and being a short stack (about a third of the next guy in chips) he was already prepared to make his move-or-bust decision.

Hi Guys

Any chance of a chip update for Dubai?

Thanks

ben

Dubai is currently on 54k

He's seated on a table with Erick Lindgren and Phil Hellmuth, the latter of which he has been sitting next to for quite a while.

There's also a Johnny Chan lookalike on the table, but there's no orange and no bracelet, so I don't think it's him. Plus, his name isn't Johnny.

Anyhow, Phil is being pushed around by Dubai. Everytime it's Phil's Big Blind, Dubai raises underthegun and picks up the hand uncontested. He then giggles as he takes the pot.

Talking about giggling, Dubai was close to wetting himself, as was the dpommo, Ariston and RobS rail, when Phil Hellmuth's Mum came up to the table to wish Phil luck. They even hugged with Phil resting his head on his mothers bosom. I sooooooooooo wish I was there to see that one.  :D

$2,500 PL

As you'll be able to tell from the photos, access is particularly restricted with this Event, but I do know that there are 13 players left, two of whom are Joe Hachem and Brit John Gale (separate tables).

Looks like they're on a break.

I passed a striding Joe Beevers (must be a loo moment for him) who, when I asked "How's it going" sternly answered with "I've got 30."

Jennifer Tilly (on about 36,000 currently) just lost a pretty big pot to a short stacked guy - Please forgive any small inaccuracies (although there's no way you could know, to be honest) -

Flop Ac Qh Qd

Jennifer was in the big blind with Aspades Td and just pushed a big stack in (c.10k) which put the other guy to a call for all his chips, effectively.
He had Qh Kh -Call.

The turn brought something paint-y (I think it was a King) and the towers of Tilly (she'd collected Marcel-like stacks of black and pink chips) took a hit.

$5,000 6-H

Dubai is down to just 12,500 after, according to railer DPommo "Slowplaying the Aces, and letting a guy hit a set."  In shorthanded it must be more tempting than ever to try to get some value out of your big hands - but this time about 30k must have jumped ship to the chip leader's stack.

$5,000 6-H

Dubai is OUT

Doubled up Phil Hellmuth, then his final 5k found two callers with Erick Lindgren eventually picking up the pot.

He looked pretty upset, mainly due to the full house he run into later. I won't tell you what he had on the Q-4-Q flop just incase he doesn't want his mucked hands exposed. But that seemed to be the killer hand, win that one, and I'm sure he'd continue to dominate the table.

Here's the end of the $2,500 - - Hachem in the middle of his table (just doubled a shortstack's 3s 3d up with his 2c 4s, spiking the deuce but no more) and Table Gale - here he's watching some other guy go out in 12th.  I wish I had a long lens and good steady hands, but you could take the wavy style as indication of excitement.  Or something.

Bad news for renowned Ladbrokes player John 'Decision' Hansmeyer. He finished 16th for 9k, but, as he is a Canadian citizen, he is unable to obtain an ITIN number and only received 6k. 30% tax, ouch! He didn't look like a happy chappy at all.

Compared to last year when the likes of Cloutier, Greenstein, Chan, Brunson, Seidel and co all took down bracelets, this year seems to be the year of the 'unknown' player. I kinda find his a shame. I always route for the 'name' player, mainly because it shows that this game doesn't just revolve around luck, even if they do only start with a thousand or two in chips. Of course, all that assumes that the 'name' players are indeed the better players.

Hmm, food for thought.

$2,500 PL

Aaron Bartley hits the dreaded bubble spot in 'ouch, one in the testicles' moment.

A-J off versus A-J suited

MB makes his flush.

So, we're down to 9, two of which are Joe Hachem and John Gayle.

There seems to be a bit of confusion as to whether they're going to play this final today or tomorrow. It was planned as a 2 day Event, but it looks like they're gonna bag em and come back tomorrow.

$2,500 PL

Here are the chip counts going in to tomorrow's final:

Seat 1: Lee Markholt -- 128,000
Seat 2: Maros Lechman -- 101,000
Seat 3: Joseph Hachem -- 64,000
Seat 4: Jeffrey Roberson -- 24,000
Seat 5: John Gale -- 134,000
Seat 6: Lee Grove -- 66,000
Seat 7: Alex Jacob -- 524,000
Seat 8: Kevin Ho -- 287,000
Seat 9: Greg Alston -- 80,000

With Hachem involved, my guess is that this one will make TV. Would be great to see John Gale come through, he seems like a top bloke.

$1,500 NL

Here are some belated photos of the very end of the No Limit ex-TV final table, after Padraig's elimination - it was not the seven hour marathon of the HORSE heads up,  but while all the attention veered somewhat towards the last 10 in the $2,500 PL, Mats Rahmn took the bracelet and $655,141, while Richard Toth took the $333,721 for second.

The first pic here represents the handing-over of the bracelet, which I thought I'd be sneaky, dodge the rope and run over and catch, but they ended up facing the other way...so it was only when the handshakes were taking place that a reasonable photo emerged.

$2,500 PL

Ariston has confirmed that they coming back to play the final tomorrow.

I just spent the best part of 20 mins talking to Womble, who confirms that he and Ariston haven't had the best start to their series - my favourite story of Womble's was how he got into the Bellagio $1000 as the 81st alternate, and seven minutes later was back on the rail.

Yep - still in!  In the money, sat next to Joe Beevers (still) with 32,400.

He also, unfortunately, has one of the chip leaders on his table, who has truly gravity-defying towers of chips reaching up to his chin like an unassailable wall...

It looks like Hellmuth's out though.

I've been thinking about playing the $1,500 NL Event in a few days, just thought it would be nice to play at least one wsop Event in my liftetime.

However, I have no idea what strategy to adapt.

I've been speaking to Thewy about it, who seems to think you need to treat it as 60 blinds rather than worry about just having 1,500 chips.

My concern is in raising preflop with hands likeA-K, A-Q, A-J, A-T etc. If you get a couple of callers, then that continuation bet is gonna be a decent chunk of your stack. I'd hate half my stack like that, so perhaps trying to see cheap flops in the fist 2 levels is the way forward. Julian said the standard of play was woeful, so if I can catch a straight or something for just 25, I may be able to get paid off.

I'm also wondering if, considering the size of the field, it's worth pushing a flopped draw. Worth a gamble?

OK - play in the $5,000 6-H has finished for the night, and unbelievably it's only 1am!  Early one here....

Anyway, they're Bagging and Tagging, but I managed to catch Joe Beevers who's made it into the final 36, but with only 23,900.  He pointed out that "Mad Marty's got all the chips in the room..." and sure enough, at least 120k was piled in front of him.  He's been sat with his back to the rail, and to be honest I thought he was out ages ago - apologies for quietness on the Marty front!  He's way out in front...

So amazingly, it's the other half of the Room with all the action now, and it's Cash and Satellite type!  The tourney dealers and staff must be heaving at least a small sigh of relief...

So I am totally going to drink beer outside (in moderation, of course - work day tomorrow and Snoopy won't let me get away with being late twice).  G'day!

With Rafe Furst, Dutch Boyd, David Williams, Sam Farha, Max Pescatori, Lee Watkinson, Chip Reese and David Pham winning bracelets already this year, there have certainly been some high-profile winners. We've also had Allen Cunningham and Eric Froehlich winning bracelets in both 2005 and 2006.

I agree though, they're not as famous to the casual poker viewer as some of last year's bracelet winners, i.e.: Ivey and the ones you mentioned above.
