OK Ladies and Gentlemen, back in the Press Room for one final day of searching for interesting stuff to tell you from the seething hordes of poker players.

We'll be travelling Snoopy-less for the first couple of levels, but me-less later, so it should balance out.  A fair number of people you'll recognise are playing this start day - list coming shortly, just thought I'd let you know I'm here and haven't been distracted by the fresh popcorn stand. He couldn't actually break the record, as there has never been a previous record set. The existing record of 72+odd hours is actually for STT play (which IMO must have been far easier) So Ron's will be the first official HU for the books.

Here's a rather frighteningly close-up photo of Ariston for you - he's sat right by the rail and collared me on the way to the back-right quadrant... sitting with 11,000, this has not been the result of slow start-of-comp play, but he said "I've had Ahrt Kd three times, KsKd once, lost on them all.  Then I see a flop with Ad 4d, flop the nut flush, and get my chips back."

To be honest, I wouldn't recommend that even Ron try that one - he's gently swaying now and says, "I feel fine!" but I don't think this is the time for a 12-hour deepstack marathon.... lol

He was setting a record, not breaking one. If I remember this rightly, it was Guinness that stated the 72 hours (I may be slightly wrong on that) but as I said that previous record was for an stt (far less mentally demanding)

Ron's attempt has been quite different in some respects, James was only allowed a break every for hours, whether he wanted it or not, Ron has been allowed hourly breaks, and even allowed to store them up to have a snooze!

Not trying to take anything away from Ron at all, but if James had tried under the conditions that have be granted to Ron, I have no doubt in my mind that he would have made it.

Yes, but if James was setting a record, rather than breaking one, then surely his 66 hours should be in Guinness... that's how I see it, anyway.

Keep the 72 hours in the STT category and then put Flush in as inaugural HU record holder.

I agree wholeheartedly! as far as I'm concerned that is what should of happened, but if the attempt is set for 72 hours as a benchmark and you don't reach it, you failed, simple as that.

There were also other things that happened along the way, that may have made it not eligable (things we didn't know at the time) I would like to see him attempt it again one day, never though I would say that a year ago lol (it was hell) but with the right back-up I think he could take it.

Good Luck all the Blondeites in today.

Ariston is OUT in the first level.  Again.  And steaming about it. 

His chips were taken by a Pocket Aces Triple Whammy (in others' hands, not his).  The first chunk went when he had 9d 9s and flopped a set, but the Ace on the flop also brought the Button with his Aspades Ac a set...lucky for him they both played slowly.

Then, after someone had exposed an Ace while folding, and another guy dwelled in an "I have an Ace" sort of way before passing, Ariston found Kd Kh in the small blind.  It folded to the button, who raised, Ariston re-raised, the third raise came and before you could say, "10,000 chips" it was all in the middle.  Button man had th other two Aces again, and that was basically that.

Not a happy chappy, and probably avoiding the poker tables for the rest of today.

Just thought i should clear up some record stuff......

The world poker endurance record is 72hrs 3minutes, there is no such record for HU play. The record was set by a guy playing a ring game of 7CS.

We did not sumbit to create a new record catergory for HU play as its a rip off and our aim was to make the most amount of money for charity, and so didn't bother.

I don't know whether Ron's attempt is one for the Guinness book of records, i imagine it isn't given that he slept for 30 Min's in the middle of it (unless they changed the rules then that is a big no no)

In any case, i know what Ron has gone through and would like to congratulate him on making it through 72hrs. Well done mate!

Yes, but there's full up and there's full up - every day hundreds seem to have got in late, and At-It's already been sat.  The 2-hr blinds help with the slow start some of them get...

I went to the table listed as his, and none of the players listed as sitting there were actually there.  Er...I think Ian Bradley was meant to be on that table too, but no sign of him either.  Rather than assuming they're both out, I would recommend getting Snoopy to have a better look after I skip town... At which point Jon Raab may take over my role for you as special guest updater.  If you're lucky. :)

I guess that's so people can never get a read on you, or maybe he just wants to keep pots small pre-flop.

She's on the edge and there appear to be quite a few spectators railing her, so I inquired into what happened.

Apparantly, and remember my source isn't necessarily the most reliable, she hit a one outer.

A-A v A-J, all-in on a J-J-rag flop, Ace on the Turn.

Both check the J-8-3 rainbow flop, and the 5 Turn.

River brings a Queen and, as I thought he would, Peter bets out 1.3k.

Mateyboy calls and Peter mucks, so no hands seen.

I'm not sure I would have bet this river, if you've checked the flop and turn, then it's clear you don't have an overpair. Also, many would bet the turn with a hand like A-Q.

What would worry me is that many players consider A-Q and Q-K preflop calling hands, so I reckon it's too easy for them to have such a hand and thereofre not worth betting the River.

Peter may have been trying a value bet with a pocket pair, but I don't think so because he mucked so quickly. I think if he was going to try and take this pot, the bet should have come on the Turn.

Just my opinion, I'm no expert, but an interesting one I thought.

Either way, The Poet's down to 28,325, but still running strong.

Gone...eventually went out of it Vs another girl this year, this time mortensens wife!

Lost alot of chips when i fire 3 bullets against a guy who called all the way... I had 87spades, he made it 500 i call from button. flop 9s9c5s he bets 800 i raise to 1900. he calls turn 10c i bet 2600 he calls, then river 2h i bet 4800 he calls with AA. He had been calling with 2 overs middle pins etc so i did fell he would pass!

Guess i will have to win some comps else where!

Shame today as i grinded very well. Where else could you sit next to lennox lewis for 4 hours and chat away but in vegas though!

MB#2 checks, MB#3 moves all-in for just 2 or 3 thousand, and MB#1 makes it a chunky 9,000.

When it gets backround to MB#2 in the small blind, he thinks for a good couple of minutes before moving all-in for an extra 5,800.

So, decision back on MB#1 with his Pocket Rockets.

"What you got?"
"Is that a Hollywood move?"
"You could so easily have the flush draw"
"You took 4 minutes to makes that move"

Anyhow, he finally made the call and flipped over his Bullets?

MB#2 showed Td 7s for top 2 pair whilst MB#3 (who was all-in on the big blind) meekly shows the rather vulnerable Ts 4h

Turn = 8h

River = 6h

The T-7 stands up against the Aces, but not against the T-4, which made a backdoor flush, thereby keeping the shortstack in the comp.

Jeff had the 3d 6d and, after Mateyboy had minimum raised his bet on the turn, Jeff moved all-in. Mateyboy folded.

And just now, I saw him reraise preflop from the big blind with Pocket Queens. Unfortunately, he received no action.

Surinder Sunar just doubled up a Mateyboy.

All the chips moved in on a 3-6-6 rainbow flop.

Oddly, the feature table has being going all day. Other times, like when Scotty Nguyen was in the spotlight, it was discarded half way through the day.

This is my first encounter with not just Vegas, but the World Series of Poker too and, although it's possibly been the toughest 2 or 3 weeks in my working life, it's also been the most enjoyable. I am ensconced in California for 24 hours, and would like to send my distant congratulations to Snoopy for holding the fort for the latter half of today, and generally carrying the weak half of the team (i.e. me) for reasonable periods of this update trip.  I reckon I would have joined the legions of the undead about a week ago were it not for the hardest working blondeite I know, Snoopy1239.

The adamant refusal to repeat the Main Event updates at all after last year was only weakened and snapped because I knew I could rely on the beagle when it got tough.  Tough it got; rely I did.  He never let up or blonde down.
