Title: cash omaha hand
Post by: Claw75 on August 18, 2006, 11:45:00 PM
I don't play much omaha, but thought I'd have a whirl with $5 at a cash table.  Didn't last long as I got busted by this hand.  After the hand was over, I thought I had played it ok, and that the guy who made the call made a mistake, but got lucky.  However, several people then congratulated him on his 'nh' in the chat box afterwards, which has left me confused - did he play it well after all?  Am interested in opinons from omaha players on both my play and the play of my opponent here.

hey,

in omaha as soon as the board pairs i slow down action with made flushes and straights and not norm chase uncomplete draws. he did overplay his aces tho and so in this instance ur push was justified. ul, it is a suckout game

I'd probably give this one up on the turn as two callers on a flop with no flush draws would suggest that someone has drawn to their full house.

I'm not too sure though as this is not a level I'm particularly accustomed to.

In fact, just ignore me.  8)

Claw I'm also an amateur but in this case I think given the fact you flop the nuts coupled with the stack sizes it's very hard to get away from your hand. Obv what the previous posters said is absolutely correct but I feel that their advice is more relevant in a deeper stacked game.

I'd say your only mistake was under betting the flop. Generally in Omaha I tend to always assume someone has flopped a set, so even flopping a nicely disguised straight on a non-flushing board still needs protection.

People tend to overvalue straights and flushes.  There's a fairly common situation that goes along the lines:

Flop top set on a flushing board, bet the pot, get called
Turn completes the flush, opponents makes very small bet, call
River completes full house, get all the cash in against nut flush
Get called moron, fish, retard,  etc. by unhappy American

In this case, your opponent didn't even have a set, all he had wan an overpair. He just got lucky.

I don't mind raising pot there with JTT9 but its probably a bit loose, you remove the street play a bit more.

The flop, just jam it. It's a perfect flop for you just bet the pot.

If there were deeper stacks, I'd be tempted to wait til the turn before I started jamming it.
