Title: BARCELONA EPT: FINAL DAY - INTERACTIVE LIVE UPDATE
Post by: snoopy1239 on September 16, 2006, 03:11:51 PM
 :hello:

Didn't return home until 6.30 am yesterday, predominatly due to the persuasive powers of Paul Parker who was adamant that we were only a short walk away.

30 minutes of wondering aimlessly through the dark mugger-infested streets of Barcelona with Mr Parker saying "It's the next street" at the end of each road, Paul suddenly turns around and says, "You are going to this place aren't you?", to which Jen and I reply "No"

Sigh, out comes the map and, after a slight detour, we eventually managed to stumble across our hotel, a mere 75 minute stroll.

I think we'll be getting the taxi home tonight.

Yeah, you can laugh, Flushy, but an hour and a half walk after 12 hours updating carrying all our stuff started out as funny and ended up sort of hallucinatorily exhausting... Paul did manage to show us the splendid "Arc de triomphe de Barcelona" though.

Just set up, so going to go and watch in turns with Snoopy.

Noah Boeken is OUT

With everyone waiting for a big hand, Noah actually found one, but his all-in was somehow called by David Layani's Q-7 (?!)

And would you Adam and Eve it... 7-6-9-7-3

Snoopy and crew please be very careful around the marina area at night, gangs of muggers prowl (personal experience!). Get the Casino to order taxi or wait in Arts Hotel reception while a taxi arrives!

Thx for that warning

We are well aware of the dangers after B4Matt was mugged earlier on in the week, which is why we travelled in a pack of 5.

Impossible getting a taxi last night, perhaps due to it being a Friday. I expect the same to apply tonight.

It's slightly dated now due to a couple of early eliminations, but just to give you an idea, this is where they are playing.

Please excuse the shiny head at the forefront. I was on my tippy-toes, but still got dazzled by Right Said Fred.

Correction, it was Layani who was the aggressor moving in from the small blind with Q-7, only to find Boeken sitting in the Big with A-K.

I saw a flop!  Turn and river too!  David Danesghar raises 31k (the blinds are now 8k/16k) and David Layani calls.
Flop + turn:  Aspades Ac 4s 5c  At this point, Danesghar bet 65,000 and was called by Layani, but it looked like on the 8s river they both totally chickened out and checked it - Danesgar had Kh 7s, but Layani's Kd 4c took it.  I heard the guy behind me say, "I don't think I value bet my 4 either..."

To get a Taxi snoops go to the reception of the casino, go to the coat check desk and ask them to call you 1, it will pick you up by that door that links the casino to the Arts. Make sure you give the girl a tip for doing so and all your taxi worries will be gone!

Better than queing with all the drunks on the other side of the road!

Just had a brief encounter with Dave Gregorgy who has been incorrectly listed as an American (oh, the shame) - his southern accent gave away somewhat the fact that he abodes in Southend.

I think we both agreed that he made the right choice in missing out on the Southend Festival this week.

We're down to Nine!  The big jump in prize money between 10th and 9th place (approx. €20,000) has been leapt - as Bjorn-Erik Glenne eliminates short stack Teemu Lahtinen - the latter made a stand with K 3, but Glenne's A 10 was in pretty good shape after the 6 6 8 flop, and even better after the Ace on the turn...

We're down to the final table, although I think Nine is still that pesky "TV Bubble" growing in importance every tourney, it seems.

Here's the deal - they're sat at the TV table right now, so all final tablists get to see what it's like up on stage...but the EPT Televised Final is always Eight-Handed, so when one player drops, there'll be a 'brief' break for interviews blah blah blah and then it'll get underway, with a one-hour dinner break at 8pm.

Dave Gregory raises to 58k, Ulriksen moves in for 76k total.

Flop = K-2-3

Gregory check, Glenne bets.

Ulriksen = J-J

Glenne = A-K

As the official televised final table is 8 players, it appears as though we're having an hour break whilst they undertake interviews and whatnot.

In fact, the break is due to commence at 8pm, in 90 mins time.

After making a few interviews, they have decided to continue playing until that time.

It was neither (although the latter was unlikely), it was just Big TK introducing the players after the 9th man was eliminated.

Anyhow, Jen is out at ringside following the action.

Watch this space.

Robin Keston doubles up courtesy of Glenne

A-Q vs Q-5

Best hand held up

Soon after Dull doubles up from the big blind

Joakim made it 55k in the cut-off, David D raised all-in from the button, Dull called his shortstack all-in with T-9, Joakim folded and David D called with A-K

T-6-K-T-x

Ouch

Double Takedown News Now -

John Dull moved in preflop for 101,000.  Bjorn-Erik Glenne decided to give him a spin, and as a surprise, Robin Keston moved in too from the small blind (for less in total).

John showed:  9s 9h
B.E. showed:  Qd Qc
Robin showed: Aspades 9c

The board came 3 J 4 6 4 (Big TK doesn't like to announce the suits for some reason) and that means that:

Robin Keston is the 8th place finisher, for €69,100

AND

John Dull is the 7th place finisher, for €92,200

Joakim raised to 45k preflop, and BE called from the big blind.  The flop:  Js Ts 2h  BE bet out 70k, and Joakim raised all-in (for c.150k) - only a little think from BE before calling with his up'n'down - Q 9 - while Joakim's AJ ended up holding up for a much needed double.

From the back row in the stands, reserved for the press, I got only one non-blurry shot from the last half hour - and this is it:

With 6 player remaining and the blinds at 10k/20k, we are seeing lots of flops and there is plenty of room for some poker to be played, a stark contrast to the two table bingo affair that I witnessed earlier.

Incredibly, Dave Gregory appears to be bullying the seemingly invincible Phil Ivey. In two recent hands, he took Phil off the pots. The first was when Phil raised to 60k under the gun, Dave made it another 100k from the big blind and Phil folded. And then, after Lisandro raised to 60k preflop (receiving two callers in Gregory and Ivey), Gregory check-raised all-in Phil's bet on a flop of 5-T-2 to once again make the world's best player fold.

Of course, he could have held the nuts on both occasion, but you never know...

Jeff Lisandro is OUT and becomes the 6th place finisher winning 115,200

Ivey raised from the button, Lisandro called from the Big Blind and they both saw a T-9-5 flop.

Lisandro checked, Ivey bet, Lisandro moved all-in and Ivey called.

Ivey = 9-9, Lisandro = T-9

Turn = 4

River = 4

Ivery wins with a full house, although I think 3 pairs is better.

Well, five handed now, and some ENORMOUS stacks, most notably, of course, Ivey's right now.  I heard the guy next to me say "Unbelievable - he comes over here, one of a handful of Americans, and he's chip leader on the final table."  I didn't even want to pick him right at the start, just because it's such an obvious choice.

Joakim Geigert is OUT in 5th place, winning €138,200

Bjorn-Erik raised to 55k preflop, Joakim re-raised to 155,000 - call.
Flop:  5 9 4 (two hearts)  Check from BE, All-in from Joakim - call.
BE showed:  K 9
Joakim showed:  A 3
With the turn and river bringing the inconsequential Q 4, we are down to just four... It's moving rather quickly.

Pretty chunky pot between Glenne and Ivey.

Glenne calls from the button, Gregory makes up the small blind and Ivey checks.

All three players check the A-4-6

T = 3

Glenne bets out 70k, Gregory passes and Ivey makes it 210k, Glenne calls.

River = 5

Glenne checks, Ivey bets 300k, Glenne calls.

Glenne wins the pot.

Can anyone guess what they had?

Title: Re: BARCELONA EPT: FINAL DAY - INTERACTIVE LIVE UPDATE
Post by: Djinn on September 16, 2006, 08:38:13 PM
Well that's the first major confrontation I've seen Ivey come out behind on - he didn't look pleased about being called on the river and having to show his Ten-high...

Anyway, he's lost a couple more pots now, both to Dave Gregory - in the first one Phil called on the button, and then called Dave's big blind raise of 50k.  They checked all the way to the end:  2h 8c 8s Qd 9h and Dave's Ace high was good.

The next hand, Dave takes Phil's big blind from the small blind with a preflop raise.

The next hand, Dave raises to 75k on the button, again Phil calls (sb).
Flop:  4s 8d Ks  Check-check.
Turn:  5d  Phil bets out 120,000.  Call from Gregory.
River:  9c   Phil gives up, checking, and gets a check behind.  They both have Ace high, but Dave's A 10 beats Phil's A 7...

If you limp in you have to check when you hit that flop.

why?  leading out looks weaker than checking since you'd normally raise an ace on the button

I don't want to be having to pick of a big move with A3....

I would rather control the pot size, and the size of the move by checking the flop and only allowing Ivey 2 steets.

Gregory limps on the button

Ivey makes up the small blind

Glenne raises from the big blind

Gregory folds

Ivey calls

Flop = 2-3-K

Ivey checks

Glenne bets 150,000

Ivey makes it 350,000

Glenne moves all-in

Ivey folds

Ivey mulled the final all-in on that hand for a good several minutes.

Nothing happens, but there is something fascinating about watching an Ivey dwell, no idea why though.

Glenne definitely limped preflop from the button.

I think you have to bet with the blinds in. Allowing a Turn to fall with two other players in (who could have any 2 cards) seems unnecessarily risky to me.

Just as I was returning with some tussling-type hands, there was a big cheer.  That can mean only one thing - - we're heads up!

Dave Gregory finishes in 3rd place, winning €184,300

Bjorn raises to 120k on the button, while Dave moves in from the small blind with K 10.
Bjorn Erik shows:  A 5

Flop:  5 K 7
Turn: 5
The river was inconsequential.

This final has been anything but slow and boring, a treat to update.

Some toilet talk from Phil Ivey.

(I always fake a wee when I need a scoop)

Phil's American friend (whilst urinating) -- "Boy, that guy sure got confident when he hit the 2 million mark"

Phil Ivey (whilst excreting): "Yeah, that hand I was bluffing the whole way, changed the whole complexion of the game"

Phil's American firend: "What do you think of that snoops character?"

Phil Ivey: "Yo mofo, what a dude that dawg is! I wouldn't want to meet that Beagle at the final table, he'd wipe the mofoing floor with me."

Damn skippy!

Thank you to everyone who followed these updates, supporting blonde in the process.

If you wish to read a brief summary of today's events, then please read the latest news item by clicking the link below:

http://www.blondepoker.com/index.php?q=node/4101 (http://www.blondepoker.com/index.php?q=node/4101)

It's been a thoroughly entertaining week, hectic but fun, with plenty of action to hold our interest.

Seeing someone of the calibre of Phil Ivey at the final table was simply delightful. With Phil playing the latter stages you're sure to witness some intriguing hands, and, secretly, I always find it reassuring to see THE best player in the World win the big money. - it reminds me that poker isn't the solely luck orientated game that so many losing players claim it to be.

Before we head off, a quick thanks to John Duthie and his team. Although media access wasn't great during the final 2 days, this was the fault of the Casino itself rather than the EPT guys. In terms of media treatment, John Duthie is one of the best and always ensures that we are well looked after with a nice place to work (comfy seats were a welcome addition), multiple emails updating us on the state of affairs and free drinks (soft, unfortunately) at the bar. It's not perfect just yet, but it's difficult to complain this much. We'll leave that for next time at the London EPT...

Let's just hope that one day blondepoker have their own office/stall at every EPT. Live the dream!

So, I guess that's it from Barcelona. As a famous Beagle once said...

toodle loo, peeps
