Title: Great movie Moments!
Post by: Newmanseye on September 19, 2006, 03:11:28 AM
I was watching Spartacus at the weekend and I love that final climactic scene where the soldiers demand Spartacus to reveal himself, within seconds tou have the whole troop of prisoners proclaiming that they indeed are Spartacus.

That for me is one of the great moments of cinema history.

Another I have a soft spot for is the " you had me at Hello!" scene from Jerry Maguire

I'd love to hear everyone elses views on the great cinema moments.

I dont think that there can be any one, even good, scene from that film because of how bad it was in its entirety, and the detrimental effect it had on the previous two.

Rutger Hauers Monologue at the end of Bladerunner, just before he croaks and lets go of the dove. That scene gets you thinking.

I love all courtroom scenes.

Al Pacino with his "This whole courtroom is out of order" is ok.

Jack Nicholson with his "You can't handle the truth" is fairly good too.

All pales into insignifacance when, in My Cousin Vinny, Marisa Tomei powerfully states that "The defence is wong"

I thought I'd try a teen gross out movie too - the very beginning of the scene where he has his first piece of chest hair waxed had me curling up.

But back to deep stuff - coupla scenes in the godfather.

One where Brando lifts the cloth to see his dead boy Sonny riddled with bullets and does same great eyebrow twitching before delivering an immortal line.

Also, where at the meeting of the five families he talks about blaming someone in this room if an accident should befall Michael.

Or Goodfellas, "You think I'm funny, funny how ?"

Lock stock - "can everyone stop getting shot!"

Gangster genre has so many of these great moments I think

Shawshank Redemption

And that's how it came to pass that on the second-to-last day of the job, the convict crew that tarred the plate factory roof in the spring of '49 wound up sitting in a row at ten o'clock in the morning drinking icy cold, Bohemia-style beer. courtesy of the hardest screw that ever walked a turn at Shawshank State Prison.

"Obi Wan never told you what happened to your father"

"He told me enough, he said you killed him"

"No......I....am your father"

*heavy breath, dramatic music*

and lets not forget from Return of the Jedi the final scenes when the Emporer is attacking Luke and Vader grabs him and throws him down the shaft to fulfill the prophecy and bring balance to the force and the galaxy.  I dunno if its just me but everytime I watch that scene is takes longer and longer for Vader to stop the Emporer.

watched this again the other night - Joe Pesci making his rebuttal to the prosecution opening argument - "Everything he says is total bullshit".

There are some great lines in Fight Club.

God damn it, an entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables; slaves with white collars. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don't need. We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives. We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off.

You're not your job. You're not how much money you have in the bank. You're not the car you drive. You're not the contents of your wallet. You're not your fucking khakis. You're the all-singing, all-dancing crap of the world.

We're a generation of men raised by women. I'm wondering if another woman is really the answer we need.

I can't get married - I'm a thirty-year-old boy.

No question about it, my favourite line is in Lock Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels at the card game...

"FOLD! Is that the only word they taught you at school Donald... Fold!!??"

"NO PHIL!!!.... They also taught me the word C**t"

rotflmfao Legendary status in my book but possibly not such a favourite for the ladies with the inclusion of that last word! Sorry bout that but it's the icing on the cake for that scene I reckon.
