A comment was made yesterday about the standard of updates in Europe.

I spoke to this chap yesterday, and he was very apologetic for what he never intended to be an insulting comment.

Although he highlighted bondepoker as the strongest of the batch , he still remained adamant that the general standard of updating for European Events wasn't great.

I have no problem with people offering their views. I welcome constructive criticism and believe that everyone is entitled to their opinion, as long as they present them in a sensible manner.

What interested me most, though, was his suggestion that our updates are biased.

Although he felt somewhat ambushed after making this comment, I do in fact agree with him.

However, what needs to be understood here is the reason why our updates are biased.

Firstly, we are a European site with predominantly English viewers, so it is understandable if we accrue chip-counts from more English players than other countries. These players ring much more of a bell with our viewers, so it makes sense to favour the known player over somebody that few have heard of.

Secondly, I personally know many of the more local players, and seeing as though they are more approachable (due to being of the same country) and easier to remember and recognise, the natural result is that their name crops up more often as I am able to garner more info from them.

Also, you need to remember that with just 2 updaters present and hundreds of players, we can't possibly collect the chip counts of every single player, or say when each person is out. It's impossible. Therefore, we highlight the players which we (i) recognise and (ii) believe will be of interest to our viewers.

However, having said all this, it really doesn't matter, because the beauty of our updates is that they are interactive, and unlike so many of our competitors, if you want us to follow anyone in particular, all you have to do is post your request on the forum and we'll do whatever we can to not only find him, but also follow his progress from there on in. Once we get to know a player, we will then recognise him on future event and will continue to update on his/her progress, just as we have done with lesser know players (to Brits) like Marc Naalden, Edgar Skjervold, Thomas Wahlrroos, and so on.

And we've lost one already!

The highly acclaimed youngster, Jonas Molander, is a gonna.

He made a move with Q-6 but was caught by Irishman and leading brit, Michael Muldoon, who had Pocket Nines.

The board wa harmless resulting in Molander being sent to the rail.

Down to 11.

Hi thanks for great live reports, i have a question though.

I've noticed that your chipcount is slightly different from atleast 3 other sites. The biggest difference is Peter Hedlunds chipstack, according to your chipcount he started the day with 270 000 but all other sites claims he started the day with over 500 000 in chips. Any idea what to make of this?

Keep up the great work!

Crikey, all happening here.

And would you Adam and Eve it, ol' Sid has doubled up!

It wasn't easy though...

all-in pre-flop (as all of these hands seem to be) with Peter Hedlund.

Sid Harris = Aspades Ts

Peter Hedlund = 8c 8d

Flop = 7d 6d 9d

Er... spot of bother here.

Turn = 2c

Hmm, not looking great for our Sid.

But LOOKY LOOKY

River = Ac

OUCH!

not 100% as Chili gave me the final chip count.

He's been busy today though, so I'll see if I can get his latest chip-count for you.

And Sid is mixing it up again, this time limping pre-flop and then calling Kuusik's 138k all-in saying, "I can afford it". (Blinds 6/12k (1k) don't forget)

Anyhow, Sid turns over the rather speculative hand of Ad 6d, whilst Kuusik is surprisingly lagging behind with Kd Qd

Flop wasn't too good for Kuusik:

3d 3s Td

But after the turn brought the Tc, the River came a rather oooooooh inducing Qs

Double up for Kuusik who is now on around 280k.

All-in pre-flop (again!)

A-6 vs Sid's Pocket Tens

Ace hits the board.

She only had around 20k when coming back for day 2 when the blinds went to 600/1200 with a 100 ante.

Well said snoops, from both a reader's perspective, from a player's perspective and from a player whose mates and family want to follow you's perspective, you and your team do and are doing an excellent job. Oh, and from a journalist of 10 year's perspective, I don't think there's any bias on a British website highlighting British players. I wonder if those who champion non bias would be happy if the BBC decided against showing the England match in the World Cup to show Iran against Saudi Arabia instead in order to give everyone fair screen time?

Best wishes to the Bear please mate, and chip counts a plenty on him when you get the chance....JEFFacake

Title: Re: LONDON EPT: FINAL DAY - 'INTERACTIVE' LIVE UPDATE
Post by: AlrightJack on September 24, 2006, 04:16:01 PM
Ashley Hayles is out in 11th place.

He lost most of his chips to Emad Tahtouh when Emad raised on the button and Ash called. Ash moved in with pocket fours on an 8-5-5 flop and Emad called with A-8.

This put Amad up to 600,000 and Ashely down to 100,000.

A few hands later he was all in with 9-6 of diamonds against Oscar's A-T offsuit. The J-5-3-4-Q board missed both players and Ashley is out in 11th winning £10,000.

The blinds are 8k/16k with a 2k running ante.

Peter Hedlund is getting busy. He raised from early position and everyone folded. He showed kings.

The very next hand he raised again, this time 50k from UTG.

Chad in the small blind called.

The flop was  6h Ks Qd

There is some banter between them, Peter swigs from his second pint of the day and bets 30k

Chad ponders, they chat some more and he calls.

The turn is 8h

Peter bets 55k and Chad passes.

Peter showed  Kh Qs

Three way pot involving Oscar, Chad and Peter.

Oscar makes it 35k to play.

Chad and Peter call.

Flop is  Qd 8h Qc

It is checked round

Turn is  4c and Oscar bets 20k. Chad calls, Peter folds.

River is  Aspades

Oscar bets 20k, Chad calls.

Oscar has A-T to Chad's A-9 and Oscar wins the pot.

Jan Sjavic has doubled up through Emad after hitting a flush on the river. The money went in on a

 Ad 5d 6c flop.

Jan had  8d Td while Emad held  6s 5d

Turn was  Jc but the river was  2d to give Jan his flush, thus defeating Emad's 2 pair.

Vicky Coren has taken out Michael Abecassis.  She bet 50k from 4th position. Michael went all in from the button.

Vicky had A-K versus the Frenchman's KK

An ace fell on the turn and c'est la vie for Abecassis.

Vicky is now on 600k.

Emad, who was damaged by Jan earlier is still OK, on 470k.

Vicky and Chad in the blinds. She made it up from the SB. Chad raised and Vicky called.

The flop was  Jh 8s 6c

Vicky checked, Chad bet 60k and Vicky thought for a while before passing, showing a jack.

Vicky has added another 100k to her stack. She falt called from late position. Peter made it 90k to play and after some banter she said she was all in. Peter passed instantly and Vicky showed a King.

Peter asked her is she has A-K and Vicky nodded.

Good luck to the two remaining Brits, and good luck to Peter, a good friend, and possibly the craziest man you'll ever meet.

He has recovered from a hit down 15k at the end of the first day when his 95 on a flop of 975 was rivered by Ashley's K9.

He was also really suffering from the smoke due to his asthma, so this is a great recovery.

Who else could be on the TV final table bubble, and be swigging from his second pint of the day?

And bad news for Oscar fans... he's hit the dreaded bubbled.

With Emad raising from the button, Oscar thought and thought for ages, before gritting his teeth and sticking it in with Pocket Fives. A pretty tough decision to be honest as he knows there's a good chance that he's in a coinflip situation.

Anyhow, he was indeed facing a 50-50, as Emad had Kh Qh.

The flop looked good with a harmless 6c, 7c, and 3s hitting the felt.

And then again on the Th Turn, but he looked thoroughly disappointed when the River (It's been a day of Rivers thus so far) brought the Qc

I second Stuart's comments. Peter is a great guy. I met him last year after he finished 99th in the 2005 World Series Main event when we shared a taxi going downtown. I then met him again in Helsinki and earlier in the week he was here knocking back the booze at the bar rather than playing. Great to watch. May wind a few people up at the table, but in a good way. He is my pick to win this.

Sorry Nines.

Meanwhile, Peter Hedlund and Chad Brown clash heads.

Both players see an 8s Kd 9s Flop.

Peter bets 50k and Chad calls, after a slight huff and a puff.

Turn = 5d

Peter bets out again, this time 121k, and, once again, Chad calls.

River = 8h

Peter checks and Chad, sensing weakness bets 250k to take the pot down.

Peter exposes A-3, whilst Chad had Q-J for the missed gutshot straight draw.

Nice bet!

Peter Hedlund is OUT and becomes the 7th place finisher winning £36,600

After taking a big hit from Chad Brown in the A-3 hand, he opted to move all-in pre-flop with K-Q.

Unfortunately for the Swede, he found Michael Muldoon sitting on A-K, a hand which held up on an 8-2-7-J-4 board.

Vicki Coren and Emad Tahtouh see a flop of Q-Q-9

Vicki checks, Emad bets 50k, she re-raises to 200k and Emad calls.

Turn = T

Vicki checks and Emad, smiling as always, moves all-in.

Cue the five minute dwell from Vicki, clearly enjoying her moment in the spotlight. She debates every possible hand Emad could have before finally folding.

Emad shows K-Q

Shortstack Kuusik has doubled up his 150k (approx) stack in dramatic circumstances,

Kuusik moved all-in with A-K, and found a caller in chunky stacker Chad Brown, who gambled with A-9

Flop was a rather cruel A-9-T

Turn = 8

But justice on the River with the Ks

Very next hand, Kuusik bets again, this time under the gun.

Vicki moves in next door, but Kuusik folds, saying "Thank you very much" in the process.

Make of that what you will...

Seat 2: Emad Tahtouh. 25 from Melbourne, Australia

In 2005, Emad qualified for the WSOP and talked his best friend Joe Hachem into coming with him. Some three weeks later, Joe was World Champion and $7.5 million richer. But Emad’s recent performances show he is no mere poker sidekick. He won $70,000 at this year’s WSOP after coming 7th in the $5,000 Pot Limit event and in the last two weeks has come second in two events at the Victorian Poker Championships in Melbourne - with combined winnings of over $40,000.

Emad has been playing poker for years but went pro some four years ago, playing mainly in small live tournaments at his local Crown Casino in Melbourne. He is now a regular in the high limit cash games on PokerStars.

Jules turned pro some three years ago and plays mainly online, coming 3rd in the Swedish internet championship in 2004.

This is one of his first appearances at a large live tournament although he only narrowly missed the money at this year’s WSOP.

Last week, he came to EPT3 Barcelona and made it through to Day 2.

Before taking up poker, Jules ran a chain of recruitment agencies.

Jan Sjavic and Emad Tahtouh lock horns.

It's all very nicey nicey until they reach the turn on a 9s 9c Js 7d board.

Emad bets 40k, Jan makes it 160k and Emad moves all-in.

Jan doesn't look to happy, but I think that's mainly due to the fact that he's dumped chips rather than made a half decent hand. He finally folds after a slight flurry of huffs and puffs.

3rd -- £168,600
4th -- £110,000

It's been a while since Vicki has made a raise. My concern is that she is playing too passively at this 5-handed stage and may well regret it afterwards.

Meanwhile, Emad seems to be the most confident and is certainly the fave to take this EPT down.

To be honest, I don't think we can be too quick to critisize Vicki's passive play.

With Chad Brown low, she perhaps expected him to make the move that he did pretty soon, and as a result of waiting patiently, she has climbed the ladder and is now guaranteed a 6 figure sum.

Seat 1: Chad Brown from Los Angeles, USA

Actor and TV presenter Chad is well-known in the US for his hosting of the Ultimate Poker Challenge television series.

A prolific tournament player, Chad arrived in London alongside girlfriend, Team PokerStars’ Vanessa Rousso.

Originally from New York, Chad grew up in the Bronx and learned poker playing in the neighbourhood cafes.

Chad has cashed at several WSOP events including 3rd in the 2002 $1,500 Omaha hi-lo split event, 2nd in the 2004 $1,500 7-card stud event and 2nd in the 2005 $2,000 seven-card stud hi-lo event.

 Brown made back-to-back final tables at last year’s WSOP circuit events, including a third place finish behind Chris "Jesus" Ferguson and Prahlad Friedman.

Nice little snippet from earlier.  Emad won a hand and as he mucked them they flipped up, so Steve the dealer turned them over and announced the hand (6-9) to the table

"Dinner for two"

Joe Hachem, who is calling the action, nervously said "No comment"

Vicky Coren commented "I can't believe you just said that, on TV"

John Duthie was in stitches.

Well, it looks as though Vicki is changing gears.

Jan makes it 80k from the button, Vicki moves all-in from the small blind.

Jan is currently asking for a count...

Sjavik takes this one down. He's practically on home court with he's previous results in London.

Michael Muldoon is OUT and becomes the 4th place finisher winning £110,000

Vicki moves all-in pre-flop with Ahrt Th and Michael calls with 7c 7d

Flop = Ad 8d 5c

Turn = Qd

River = Ac

Quite a scare for Vicki on the Turn, but she surivived.

Boy, did she look relieved.

"Aah yes, I know him, he's a nice guy," replies Sverre.

Chip-count, not easy at the mo, but I'd estimate that Vicki is now on around 1 million, Emad 1.8 million and Jan 1 million.

Judging by the expressions on the face of Vicki, I doubt it.

She's donning an "Oh my dear God, I don't believe it. This is like a dream" kind of expression rather than a "I'm so relieved that we've done a deal and I'm guaranteed all this money" one.

Well done here.  ;applause;

For the benefit of our foreign viewers...

Seat 8: Vicky Coren from London

Londoner Victoria Coren is a well-known television presenter, newspaper columnist and author. Among her many media commitments, she presents TV poker shows and writes a weekly poker column for the Guardian.

Vicky is known to supplement her income with regular visits to the cash games here at the Victoria Casino. She has impressed onlookers and rivals with her sophisticated play at this EPT event- 'she's a charming person, with a few tricks up her sleeve', says Norwegian pro Allan Dyrstad.

Victoria has cashed in several major tournaments here at 'The Vic' and was the winner of the 2004 Celebrity Poker Challenge.

Vicki's starting to look like a winner now, perhaps one could say she's even pushing the table around.

Anyhow, the two blinds (Jan and Vicki) saw a 9-Q-K Flop.

Jan bet 35k and Vicki called.

The Turn was a 7, and after Jan had checked, Vicki bet around 100k and took the pot down.

Jan raised from the button, Vicki re-raised from the small blind and Jan called.

Flop = T-T-9 rainbow

With about 500k in the pot, Vicki pushed all-in for about 700k.

Jan went into the think tank for a good 5 minutes, before making a stunning call for his tournament life.

Jan = 3-3

Vicki = A-J

Turn = J

River = 8

With a clearly emotional and adrenalin pumped Vicki Coren trying to regain her breath, they are taking the usual 5 minute break before commencing with the heads-up.

Seeing as though Emad hasn't didn't play a big hand whilst three-handed, I reckon Vicki has around a 2.2 to 1.7 million lead.

Emad and Vicki were involved in a big pot at the end of day one when I was sat on their table. Vicki raised with AQ, Emad went all in for about three times as much from the BB with 89 (I think) and looked gutted as Vicki started putting the chips in to call.

Blank, blank, blank, blank, 9 kept the Aussie in it, much to Vicki's dismay, altho Joe Hatchem watching seemed to like it.

Gl both

They back, and it looks as though they're closer in chips than first thought.

And my spider senses tell me a deal may have been struck, as (1) the first hand back is a monster and (2) Vicki looks a lot more relaxed.

Anyhow, the first hand back:

Flop = 5d Td 8s

Vicki bets 100k, Emad calls.

Turn = 2c

Vicki bets 300k, Emad calls.

River = 9d

Emad bets 600k, Vicki calls with Q-T and takes the chip lead. Emad had J-8o.

Emad Tahtouh is OUT and becomes the 2nd place finisher winning £285,900

It all happened very quickly, but both players saw a flop of 5c 3c 4d

Vicki bet the flop and called when Emad made it 450k.

Turn = Js

Emad moved all-in and Vicki called instantly.

Whilst Emad could only muster a Pocket Pair (I believe it was eights), Vicki had her man drawing dead with 6-7 for the flopped straight.

which means...

Was a great atmosphere down there. The home crowd were all supporting Vicky and they didn't have to wait long to get something to cheer about. Shortest heads up in EPT history.

Here's pics of the wonga and the winner.

Well done to Vicky Coren who fully deserved her win today. Although I was slightly concerned that she was playing too passively at one point, she clearly had a battle plan that has forced me to eat my words. After waiting for Chad Brown to depart, she suddenly kicking into gear, showing the other players that she was here to win.

And win she did. Teary eyed and clearly elated, she was exceedingly humble in victory. As can be seen from not only the support she has received on the forum, but the number of embraces and 'well dones' she was dealt out here at the Vic, she is a hugely popular winner. Besides that, it's always great to see a Brit triumph in what has become a Scandinavian dominated Tour.

Before I forget, we must also thank my fellow updaters, AlrightJack, Chili and NoflopsHomer - all of whom performed tremendously for blonde over the four day period. Whilst AlrightJack and Chili (true workaholics who were patiently sat at ringside supplying me with info) were doing everything free of charge, NoflopsHomer proved to everyone watching what a cracking little updater he is, working effortlessly and intently to provide you with all the information on this year's London EPT. Gang, I tip my proverbial hat to you.  ;hattip;

As always, PokerStars have been very accommodating, especially Mad Harper who constantly sends us emails, bios, updates and whatnot on the tournament at hand. Sometimes we thank to forget these people, so this is their moment.

Finally, a big thanks to the staff here at the Gorsvenor Victoria for improving the media facilities. Not only were we offered our own press room, but we were given free wifi access, a constant supply of snacks, and full access to all the action. The press room is quite a long way from the cardroom, but, under the circumstances, the big wigs at the Vic should be applauded for doing everything they can to make our time here enjoyable.

So, with all the thank yous over with, there's only one thing left for me to say...

 ;stickaforkinme;

I just wanted to add my congratulations to Vicky Coren.  Fine feat indeed and nice to see a local and a gal win it!

Ontop of that a massive  :respect: to snoopy for his tireless hard work over 4 long, long days.  I know we keep saying how hard work updating is but I could hardly move today.  Maybe my fitness levels are to blame or the 3,267 flights of stairs that I covered on Saturday night, but still well done Mr Raab and Floppy also, great work.

I wouldn't have missed Saturday night at the Vic for anything.  After spending my Friday in reading the updates, I was jealous as hell.  I had a laptop and a camera doing nothing so I begged the guys to let me help on Saturday.  They thankfully did and aswell as lending a hand I met some of Europe's and USA's fnest.  It is something special to be around these guys and see them in action.  I was gutted at Gus Hansen being knocked out the night before but got some reward in bumping into him in the 15 minutes that he was there last night.

Anyway, thanks to the Vic also whose staff and dealers were top notch and especially to Steve who didn't let me miss many all in's by shouting me over on numerous occasions when I was occupied elsewhere!  ;)

iwas also of the opinion she was playing to tight to win but win she did and i eat my words. Paradise must be a bit gutted that they dont get the publicity but with only two women on the pokerstars pro list could we be seeing the first english woman sponsored by pokerstars?

And my spider senses tell me a deal may have been struck, as (1) the first hand back is a monster and (2) Vicki looks a lot more relaxed.
