Emma Strutt is OUT, Crippled first hand by nines when holding kings on a  Tc 3h 4h Qd 9d board. She then lost the rest to Mykim Lieu with Ad 2d to  Jc Jd  on a  3c 3h 3d 4c 4s board.

Tom REDDOG McCready is OUT.  A battle of the blinds, Tom wakes up with  Ad Qs so he raises the pot.  Maurice Nicholson just called.  Flop came:

 Ac 6s 4s

Maurice checks so Tom bets 5k.  Maurice re-raises another 5k so Tom pushed the lot.  Maurice amazingly called with   Ts Js
of course a spade arrives on the turn and RED-DOG is seething for now.  It will pass.

Ed Baly (the kid)  is OUT.  He was low with 7,500 and decided to make his push with  Qh Th pre-flop.  He got called by  Aspades Qs.
With a flop of

7s 9c Ahrt  Ed got put all in for his remaining 2k and had to call really with what he had left.

Come on Rudders!!

Rudders doubles up. He raised with  Qd 7h in SB against the BB, the flop came  Jd 7d 4d  and he pushed and the BB called with  Qc Js but a diamond came on the river and Rudders has about 18k or so.

Rudders is out, he didn't see an UTG raise to 5.5k and announced raise with A6 on the meaning he had to put a minimum of another 5.5k in, which would leave with only 5k back so he had to push despite knowing he was most likely dominated. He was against AK and failed to hit.

AQ vs AK on John Exley's table. All-in preflop.

Board:

 4d 4c 4h

Turn:

 Kh

So the AQ is drawing to 3 cards for a split....

River:

4s!

On tikay's table. Matey Squared.

7c 7s vs Ahrt Qh

Board:

 Kh Td 9h

So any Ace, Queen, Jack or Heart....

Two bricks follow...

Afraid you've bokked him Dave, Tikay has just gone out in a small blind big blind confrontation, the small blind raised with fives, tikay pushed with KQ and hit a queen on the flop but a pesky five came on the river.

I know. He had 3 cards for a split and none for a win. Therefore it's a suckout.

It's gonna be a long, long, night, & I cant see this thing ending before 5am.

We will be here until the bitter end!

Zahir Aslam and Surindar Sunar have both added to their stacks knocking out short stacks.

Zippy's A-2 took out a K-J on a 8-Q-7-6-3 board.

Whilst Surindar made a small bet on a Qs 4c Js board and matey moved all-in with Kc Td and Surindar called with Aspade Ac which held.

Kev's pick is Mick Fletcher, and I'm going for Surindar.

45 players left, half an hour left at 2k-4k, ave stack is some 53,300. (thats 13 x BB).

There is some talk - just a rumour, this - of slowing the clock down to 60 minute levels. (45 at present).

Did Kevin O'Leary and Rumit get a free entry into this via Blue Square sponsorship? Given they are first on the list of qualifiers I guess they did. If so, that's a disgrace. You couldn't buy into this comp so why can someone be given a freeroll into it?

I'm sure you'll raise this on your excellent tv show. ;goodvevil;

They were probably the first to qualify online. There are no invites to this comp. If one or two people got invited then droves of pros would not enter this comp as it would lose all it's integrity.

So Kevin is sponsored by Blue Square and he just happened to win his seat in the very first qualifier for this event (hosted by the firm sponsoring him and who own the casino)? Have you checked that because it sounds like a b/s to me?

Anyway, keep up the good work.

Mick Fletcher took a 45k pot against Glen Ashworth who is now down to 28k.

The Board came thus.....

 Jh 5h 2h 6c 7d

Fletch put Glen all-in on the end & Glen gives a goodly dwell before calling, & showing the J - he never showed his other card.

Fletch had flopped the stone cold nuts -  Ahrt 8h......

Fletcher on a roll now, he'll take some stopping now he's caked up.

2) He's now on 230k and easily the chip leader.

Anyway, keep up the good work.

The only players Blue Square sponsor are JP Kelly and Mickey Wernick, neither of whom managed to qualify. Kevin O'Leary has been put into the odd few non-Grosvenor events, but is not sponsored.  Rummit has never been sponsored or put into anything by Blue Square.

Everyone who played the GP had to qualify. Both Kevin and Rummit won their seats fairly and squarely. Why would we want to risk our reputation by doing such a thing? Why do you feel the need to suggest that we must have done this? Are you just a conspiracy theorist or have you got something against Blue Square?

Everytime I see Kevin he's wearing some Blue Square gear and it turns out they've either put him in or picked up part of the costs. When his name is then first on the list of qualifiers, not from a casino but from Blue Square, I want to ask "what's going on?". If that upsets you then I suggest you don't read the newspapers anymore because far worse things are happening in this world than that.

As for Blue Squares reputation, I never mentioned it.

It is because Kevin is a good customer of ours with a good live record that we sometimes support him.

No, you didn't mention our reputation but you casted aspertions against it, which I defended. Rummit and Kevin both played in the qualifier they came through on. We did not pretend it took place. Are you suggesting that we fixed the qualifier so that he went through? Quite what other bad things going on the world has to do with this I do not know. I suggest you go back to watching the X-Files.

Hi all,
It seems to be "have a go at Alrightjack day" He is an honourable man and will it as it is. I have no problem with anyone asking questions...just the tone needs to be less confrontational and more in the spirit of this site.

Having said all that I think Tikay needs a good talking to for having no photos of the "dealers" or groupies. If Red dog was in attendance he would guarantee us a story.  Also good to see Matt Tyler online. I told you not to go into the transvestite area of Paris. You are no match for them with the extra padding.

The average stack is 16 big blinds. ;)

Keep up u mug  ::) :-* ;ashamed; x x

forgot this was even on as it was zachs surprise 40th party yesterday so I didn't even try to qualify. I fancy Mick Fletcher to bring home the bacon though- he really does get the results in these when he gets hold of a few chips (think Mallu without the blow up factor).

He's lost most of his gold 5k chips, I think he's down to about 95k now.

Shahla Javadi (pictured below), the remaining lady in the comp, is OUT in 21st place. She got it all-in with Td Ts against Tony Adderley's  Ac Kh the board came with a  Jc Td rag but the Qd reared it's ugly head on the river. The rest of her chips went in with Tens again, this time she was up against Aces and no help came.

Elsewhere Rummit has pushed off Romanello a hand moving all-in preflop, Roberto passed after convincing Rumit to show pocket tens if the former would fold, Roberto flashed a Jack.

We are now on a half hour break after which the blinds will be 5k/10k.

Foxy -- Soxy, Gwibbo and Martin Green are all OUT, I'm afraid.

still a bit rough, the symptoms seem to be taking it in turns, today it's the ol' bunged up nose, yesterdays was the cough.

saw an interesting hand between Zippy and Mateyboy yesterday. Zippy was already chipped up, but he bet 10k on the Turn (all-in for his opponent) with K-J on an Q-9-x-T board (rainbow board).

His opponent dwelt up for ages before passing A big set of Nines.

"I knew he had the set!" commented Zippy.

Play is about to re-commence.

20 players are remaining. Blinds are 5k-10k. The Average Stack is 120,000, equal to 12 x Big Blinds.

The Clock will stay at 45 minutes for the next 2 Levels for sure, but they will review it after that & MAY increase it to 60 minutes thereafter.

The Blind increases AFTER this 5k-10k Level are very slow - the Big Blind only increases by 2k per level.

Rumit has gone in 19th. He pushed to Roberto Romanello's raised from the button with  Aspades 9s, Roberto called with  Ad Js and the board came  Ahrt 9h Jc 7d 7h

Shortly after another short stack went out with  9c 9h to a  Ad 7d raise from another player.

Flop:

 Kc 3d 5c

Turn:

 4d (No better turn surely?)

River:

6c

John Exley is OUT.

All the chips went in Pre-Flop. John showing the sexy looking  Kd Qd, whilst Matey Boy had him dominated with  Ahrt Qh.

The  Js Tc Ks flop was just what Matey Boy ordered, & running Nines on the Turn & River changed nothing.

17 left.

Roberto Romanello and Matt Cartwright are joint chip leaders with about 230k each

The former just lost a huge pot, a raise from Michael Quayle was met a Romanello re-raise but Quayle pushed all-in and Romanello had to call. Quayle had the bullets  ;snoopy'sguns;  while Roberto had the less stellar  Ks 8h. And althought Romanello flopped the nut flush draw, Quayle's trip aces held up in what was close to a 200k pot.

JJ vs A8 takes out a player on the left hand table whilst 66 holds up vs AK on the right.

I must say that the comp is being played in a very good spirit despite the oodles of cash on the line with lots of handshakes and good luck wishes passed on by those who have busted out.

1) Table 1, pre seat 2 busting out.
2) Table 2, pre seat 7 busting out.

Yes snoops, he just doubled up against Jamie Gubb's Pocket Ladies with Pocket Tens, board 9-T-2-2-K.

On the other table Anthony Hughes doubled through Tony Adderley with A-Q against Tony's Pocket Kings, A queen on the flop and another on the river.

Tony then pushed with Ac Jc and doubled up himself against Mick Fletcher who held Kc Tc on a 4h 2s 6d Qc Ad board.

Andy Miles has taken out M Libertini in 15th place, Andy had AT sooooted on the button, Libertini had 99 in the SB. A ten on the flop and one on the turn good measure.

Also C Gerrard has gone in 14th place on the same table, in a blind battle against Mick Fletch, the flop came 5-6-2 with two clubs and Mick's 5-7 held against the Kc 9c on Gerrard.

Great updating Homer, TK, and Chili too.. just goes to show how a bit of luck can take you a long long way, i happened to see this hand involving Romanello at level 4 yesterday afternoon :

200/400 blinds and Romanello on 2800. He is on sb. Two limps infront of him and he makes up from the SB. BB checks.

Flop  Ts Th 8d. Romanello bets out the pot 1600, to which BB and limp 1 folds. Limp 2 calls, turn is  Tc the remaining 800 gets put in and called. On their backs :

Romanello :  Js 8h
Mateyboy :  9c  9d

River is of course  Jh... and Romanello is somehow still in the comp!!

With 13 players left, we have DEAL TALK.

It's been suggested that 13th to 4th ALL lock up £10,000 now.

I don't think that kite will fly, but I think some sort of redistribution of Prize Money looks likely. Or maybe not.

...and now play has been suspended - for the last 10 minutes - while the players discuss a redistribution of the Prize Money.

The proposal was tabled, 13th to 7th ALL get £10,000.

Then, 5th gets £14,000

4th £18,700

3rd £32,000

2nd £45,000

WINNER £75,00

This looks like it may just get accepted - they are still talking, & the clock is still "PAUSED".

Its for reasons like this IMO that Poker is behind many other pursuits.  When people are talking about re-distributing the wealth of the prizepool with 13 players remainng its a joke.

Half the time I don't see the point in tournaments continuing once they reach a final table.

I think the fast structure had a lot to do with this one.

Massive jump in prize structure and a short-stacked crapshoot = certain deal.

I don't recall things being this bad last year in terms of structure.  What's changed this time around?

i have been lucky enough to have been in a few finals myself and will allways try to have a deal, but to have a deal with 13 or14 players left is mad, you will get short stacks and others who are happy with 10k just throwing there chips in, thus not helping the more skillfull players.

I can understand the reasons behind it, but that doesn't mean I have to agree with them.  Doing a deal 13 handed is bordering on a joke IMO.

I personally reckon the gaming board should step in and outlaw deals.   If poker ever wants to ever be taken seriously then these sort of things have to be put to bed.

It's a shame that what could have a great event has been spoiled by poor stuctures.

The qualifiers (live) were crapshoots as well as far as I could tell from the updates.

If events like this want to be taken seriously then they should provide a decent structure.

I think it's a very good deal for all concerned. 13th was going to only get £1,500 and even 8th gets just £5,200. Apart from MrAlex2u, most had solid stacks yet only around 12- 18 BB's where one coinflip or outdraw could easily cost them tens of thousands of pounds. Now everyone gets 6th place money of £10,000 and the chance of £75,000 still. This is a decision entirely influenced by the structure.

Alex 'MrAlex2u' has just gone in 13th with Qc Jc against Zippy's pocket Td Tc. He's happy with the deal (as he would be obviously) but everyone else from chip leader Mick Fletcher with about 300k to Robert Romanello with 250k, agreed with it too. And there's still very good money from 1st to 5th anyway.

If any of the other stacks double through Roberto or Mick, then these two would be seriously crippled and unlikely to get a big pay-out.

I guess for most the players in this comp, the difference between winning 75k and 100k isn't that great, yet going home with 10k rather than 1k is huge.

45 min clock 10,000 chips its not that horrible a structure

However 240 players grinding away at pot limit makes it pretty likely you'll get crapshooty before the final table

This time last year, we were well into the final table by now

There was no pressure - the Deal was tabled by one player in a quiet & logical way. No raised voices, no arguments, it's clear they ALL wanted to redistribute the Prize Money. They fiddled with the detail for a while, but the agreement in principle was accepted almost immediately it was tabled. It was smiley-smiley happy-happy all the way, from everyone.

Well you answered the question yourself, they could agree to the deal later if they do lose some of their chips. All I'm saying is that the deal is -EV for the big stacks, no doubt about it, and massively +EV for the shortest stack.

I do understand of course that people like the idea of locking up £10k though and well done to all involved.

What folks forget is that "good structures" is a function of how much time there is available to play the Event.

With the time they had available, 2 days, (& two Flights on Day One due to capacity problems) it was simply not possible to have a better structure. Different, yes, but better?, I doubt it.

45 minutes is not ideal for a comp with a £100k Winners Prize, nor is missing out the 75-150 & 150-300 Levels - but how else do you fit a 240 player comp into 2 days when Capacity at the Venue is under 200?

I hope the 2007 renewal has two FULL Opening Days. Then they can do something with the structure & clock.

Given the time available, I think the Structure was as good as it could be made, give or take tinkering with the levels in a minor & subjective way.

Post by: NoflopsHomer on October 15, 2006, 11:10:10 PM
I have just been speaking to Roberto, Mick and Tony Adderley (who came up with the deal) and they all were adamant that one outdraw, coinflip or cold-decked hand would cost them a lot of money. For example, Mike Quayle has just gone in 12th position he ran Tens into Matt Cartwright's Queens leaving him with just 700 left which shortly got him knocked out when he ran into the Peter Smyth's 10-high flush. Both Matt and Mike had fairly medium stacks and if either had gone out there they get just £2,000. Instead they're all getting £10,000 with a chance for a lot more.

The truth is everyone agreed to the deal fairly quickly, no-one really held out, and, and I really must stress this, the final two tables have been played in a geuninely pleasant and friendly spirit between all the players. No-one has been angling for more or anything else, so I applaud the players for making a logical and sensible deal for all concerned.

Well put Red,.. Just a small point Tikay. If they have seating for 200 then the sats should have stopped when they reached that number. Good management means tough decisions, as you have just found out when you made a tough but right decision on the event in Scotland.

Well yes Denis, that's correct. But......

What happened here was that they wanted to Guarantee a nice "headline" figure - a £300,000 GUARANTEED Pool, & £100,000 GURANANTEED to the winner. Nominally, that is, pre the players puttng their oar in.....:)

It's so easy to knock the organisers of these things, & I'm very supportive of Grosvenor & Blue Square, on the whole. But Commercial Gaming Organisations DO think in very strange ways. It's like we MUST say £100,000, or £250,000, or £500,000, or £1,000,000.

You see, £93,000, £219,000, £473,000 & £912,000 don't - in THEIR eyes - have the same appeal!

So, the large number of players arose as they were trying to ensure that the Guarantee was "covered".

Anyway, it's been 2 months of great fun, imo. I love his Comp, but I do hope they give us an extra day next year.

i think people are forgetting in the early stages of a pot limit tourney it takes a while for a lot of players to settle down with the, raise, re-raise,re- re-raise, and it still aint 1000 in the pot ....pot limit imho is a more slower and SKILLFULL game that takes more time than no limit as to the raise, re-raise all inn business i think the structure was good the field was good BUT ,i woulda put flight 1a on friday night 1b saturday afternoon and final 110  ish start saturday night ,,,then final sunday, but who am i i wasnt in it lol

I think there are pro's and cons to both No Limit AND Pot Limit. Personally Pot Limit doesn't seem to suit me. I don't like the fact that your pre-flop raises can attract several callers, it's hard enough to outplay or put 1 or 2 players on a hand, never mind several. For this reason, I think hitting flops is so much more imoprtant in Pot Limit, and hitting hands contains a large luck factor.

Let's not forget that they are still playing for a lot of money, it's not as if they split the whole prize pool.

Is:                                    Was:

1st  £75,000                   £100,000
2nd £45,000                     £56,000
3rd  £32,000                     £37,500
4th  £18,700                     £18,700
5th  £14,000                     £14,000
6th to 11th £10,000    6th  £10,000
                                 7th   £7,000
                                 8th   £5,200
                                 9th   £4,000
                                10th   £3,000
                                11th   £2,500

That really is less of a deal and more a flattening of the prize-structure anyway.

Indeed, Zippy has doubled through. He has a remarkably aggressive game. No offence to Ash, the Rankings Leader, but if  a stranger appeared on the scene & watched them both play (Ash & Zippy) they'd be forgiven for not knowing which was the better player, they both have great, but very different, game.

Another who has caught the eye - I think snoopy gave him a shout-out earlier - is Peter Smyth. He has nearly 300k now. Very quietly does he go about his work, this fella, but he just keeps raking in little Pots - lots of them.

At the other end of Peter's table is Roberto - now there IS a contrast. King of Speech-Play, though it's NOT malicious or rude, just non-stop in yer face. Welsh, see? Another great player.

Who needs a magician to help us stop smoking?!

Anyway, I've ventured an opinion or two, & I can sense the keyboards are getting warm, so I think I'll cut & run. I'm a little under the weather, mainly lack of zzzz's I think, so I'm afraid our Hero Floppy will have to fly solo for the Final. Sorry Floppy, but you can do it, & the blondes are most grateful to you.

So, with a big thank you to Grosvenor, Blue Square, the Dealers & Staff & Valets, and to Floppy & Chili for the Updates, I'm outa here, & gonna wind my weary way home. Floppy will take you through to the end.

Goodnight all, see you soon.

Jamie Gubb has gone in 11th place, he got short and hoped that his  6h 3h was live against the button raise of Matt Cartwright. It was but they failed to improve against the  Kc Qs that Matt held.

Shortly afterwards, Andy Miles, who hasn't picked up a hand in the last hour or so, pushed in blind to Roberto's button raise, but his Ad 2s was dominated by Roberto's Aspades 7s. And the Ts 2d 7c 7d 4c board finished him off.

There is now a redraw and a break for the final table. I'll get seating arrangements, chip counts and pictures shortly.

well played Milesy, top performance, shame u missed that final table but well done mate.

Read the points on the structure with interest, I think Tikay is right, they did as well as possible, but I thought it thought it took something away from an excellent tourney. Maybe another potential solution could be playing regional first days, with one in the north, one south, and then the day two players coming together somewhere more central like lovely walsall the following weekend or something. Something needs to be done....

Title: Re: Grovsenor Grand Prix 2006 - Interactive Final Day
Post by: NoflopsHomer on October 16, 2006, 12:37:05 AM
Ok here's the final table:

Seat 1: Anthony Hughes -- 139k
Seat 2: Matt Cartwright -- 406k
Seat 3: Roberto Romanello -- 369k
Seat 4: Mick Fletcher -- 494k
Seat 5: Peter Smyth -- 287k
Seat 6: Zahir 'Zippy' Aslam -- 140k
Seat 7: Alan Dean -- 159k
Seat 8: Darshan Sami -- 73k
Seat 9: Tony Adderley -- 328k

So Roberto will carry on torturing [with his speech play] Peter Smyth, whilst watching Mick, Matt and Roberto clash with super-aggressive styles which make it interesting.

There's a 15 minute break now and I'll try and get photos when they restart. (Maybe in the meantime I'll infiltrate the finalist area and steal from the buffet, mwahahahahaha.)

13 way deal???   FFS!!

Now dont get me wrong, I CAN understand WHY the deal was done, I just dont like it - although as Red Dog has pointed out, what difference does it make weather I agree or not as I am not one of the players involved.

I know what I want to say on the subject, I just cant get the words right without sounding judgemental, so I think I will leave it at that.

OK having thought about it, I can see no other reason than "peer pressure" that has made the chip leader agree to this deal. What other reason can there be?

The deal has been done for monetary reasons of the short stacks as the diff is so great in the prize money at the lower places- I understand that.

I also understand that the tourney had become a bit of a crapshoot, BUT the deal has INCREASED the crapshoot factor has it not? I mean, the short stacks have NOTHING to loose now until the money starts to increment up again. Fair point?

Now the C/L may (well not may,, WILL DEFINATELY) get callers from short stacks that he otherwise would not have got - increasing those "outdraws".

Even in the short space of time playing live, I have noticed that deals have become MORE often and MORE players left reaching a deal. 3 years ago , the most I saw was a 3 way deal. NOW you have all 9 at a final table making deals, even 13 as is here!! Where will it end? Make the money and split it 27 ways equally????

Hope that sounds ok

OK having thought about it, I can see no other reason than "peer pressure" that has made the chip leader agree to this deal. What other reason can there be?

The deal has been done for monetary reasons of the short stacks as the diff is so great in the prize money at the lower places- I understand that.

I also understand that the tourney had become a bit of a crapshoot, BUT the deal has INCREASED the crapshoot factor has it not? I mean, the short stacks have NOTHING to loose now until the money starts to increment up again. Fair point?

As I was typing that there was another all-in called.

Anthony Hughes moved the last of his stack on the river of a  Jh Jc 6d 3c 7c board and Matt Cartwright called. I believe most of the chips had already gone in on the turn.

Anthony:

 Kh Jd

Matt:

 5s 5d

So Anthony doubles up and Matt takes a hit.

Roberto just had Tony Adderley all-in but Roberto had  Aspades Kd and Tony had Ahrt Kh and no flush potential was even hinted at on the T-T-4-6-Q board.

Next Roberto min-raises to 32k one off the cut-off. Peter Smyth pots to 120k from the button. Roberto folds

Then Anthony Hughes pots UTG to 56k and Peter re-pots to 236k (I think) and Hughes mucks.

Alan Dean is OUT in 8th place winning £10,000

Peter Smyth raised from the cut-off, Zippy re-raised from the button and Alan moved in from the small blind. Peter got out of the way and Zippy called.

Alan:

Zippy:

Board:

And Quads for Zippy has put him up to into contention with over 300k now.

Sorry Paul, just trying to be a smart ass (and failing) It's just that I remember you doing a deal on a final table when it suited you.

BTW, I don't buy all that peer pressure malarky. Anyone who can battle his way to a ft in a big event isnt going to roll over just because someone looks at him sideways.

In a 3-way raised pot between Peter Smyth, Tony Adderley and Roberto Romanello see a  7h Js 9h board.

Peter bets 96k, Tony folds and Roberto moves all-in for 143k more.

Peter calls with  Kh Qh which is ahead of Roberto's  Qs Th

Turn:

 4d

River:

 3h

Giving Peter the flush and the chip lead and meaning Roberto Romanello is OUT in 7th place winning £10,000

Looks like a sensible deal to me given the situation.

They've managed to secure themselves a healthy payday and leave substantial prizes for the top places without taking too much gloss off.

Of course it may get renegotiated later, but that's their pejorative..

Yes Red, I did do a deal recently. A 4 way deal when there was a massive chip leader and us 3 had similar 10(ish) x BB and the deal meant I locked up 2nd place money. HATED doing it as well - Just ask TK (he was one of the other 3) I never suggested that deal and it took them a little while to convince me to take it.

The point I was trying to make (without sounding judgemental) was that the deal done in this event HURTS the chip leaders greatly in my opinion., not the prize money wise, but the obvious attitude change of the guys in 13th to 6th place and the subsequent chip redistribution that will follow.

I said origionally that I can understand the 13th to 6th place people agreeing to this deal, but I fail to see ANY benefit in the chip leader agreeing to it. (again without judging the chip leader because what he does IS his own business)

You are perfectly entitled to your opinion, (and may I say you expressed it very eloquently) But the fact remains, YOU agreed to your deal, THEY agreed to theirs.

Very true that Tom, very true.

The deal itself (being done) was not what I had an opinion on, it was that it changes the competition greatly until there are 5 left BECAUSE £10k is now locked up. Even Mr TK does not like savers (documented on blonde threads twice) because it "alters" the structure and decision making of the short stacks and hence can have a massive effect on the tournament as a whole.

But to be personally attacked for having a diferent opinion from someone else is just wrong.

Anyways, nuff said.

Great updates as usual

Im off to bed.

GL to those playing - and well done to them on a nice little payday

Matt Cartwright has suggest another deal with payouts of £50k (Mick Fletcher) £45k (Peter Smyth) £38k, £30k and £30k. But that's yet to come to fruition. As they were talking, Anthony Hughes, the shortstack, raised UTG and Zippy put him all-in.

Anthony:

Qd Qh

Zippy:

As Qc

Board:

Tc 2c 6d 2d 4h

Will another deal be done? It's certainly possible...and they're still talking about it.

5 players remain, blinds are 9k/18k.

Chip Counts.

Matt Cartwright -- 522k
Mick Fletcher -- 356k
Peter Smyth -- 572k
Zahir 'Zippy' Aslam -- 436k
Tony Adderley -- 529k

Mick's dip comes mainly having to call a Tony Adderley all-in with Ac Tc against Tony's pocket 4's which held up. We're now on a short break during which they are discussing a second deal.

Matt Cartwright takes down a big pot, a raise preflop is called by Peter Smyth, with 100k in the pot board comes:

9s 5h 8s

Peter checks, Matt bets 40k, Peter raises to 80k, Matt re-raises to 350k and Peter quickly mucks.

Roberto behind me says, "Matt had Aces, and he was drawing."

Blinds are 10k/20k for the next 7 minutes and then they'll be 11k/22k.

I'll get you some chip counts now but...Hark! I hear applause, someone is out...

Mick Fletcher is OUT and is our 5th placed finisher winning £20,000

He was getting short and moved in against Tony Adderley's preflop raise. Tony calls.

Mick:

 Aspades Kh

Tony:

Board:

And then there were four....

Correction. Tony called Mick's preflop raise and his all-in on the T-9-7 flop

Meanwhile in Chippy Count Land (approx):

Matt Cartwright -- 745k
Peter Smyth -- 600k
Zippy -- 570k
Tony Adderley -- 500k

Blinds have actually gone to 12k/24k. They've just change it on the clock.

HUGE pot.

Matt raises to 84k from UTG, Peter passes, Zippy re-raises to 192k, Tony moves all-in. Matt passes, Zippy calls and is all in himself.

Tony:

Ahrt Kd

Zippy:

Qd Qc

Board:

2h 9h 5c 7s 3h

Zippy is the chippy leader and Tony was down to 25k but managed to get up to 100k after his Jc Th was good vs the other three players on a Js 3c 8d Ks 5c board.

The Winner of the Grovsenor Grand Prix 2006 is Zahir 'Zippy' Aslam collecting £44,700 in prize money

Congratulations to Zippy who played incredibly well, had his big hands hold up and was even able to come back from just 39k when the blinds were 5k/10k.

A worthy winner you must agree. And here he is with all chips in the world...

And that is everything. Before I head off home, I'd like to congratulate Zippy, but also all the other finalists who played the game in a great spirit (and were really helpful giving me chip counts). Also thanks to Chilli and Tikay who soldiered through the last two days with me and managed to keep me going too. Also, big thanks to Walsall Grosvenor, Dani, Zack and the rest of the cardroom staff and team who helped us with player listings, an area to work in, and who were always willing to help us out with anything else. Very much appreciated. :)up

That is it in a nutshell, hope you guys haven't missed Snoopy and Jen too much, they'll be back soon. Anyway I'm off to get some sleep. :D

I was knocked out of the London Poker Masters by Zippy. At the time I thought he had a great game, very aggressive. Was on his table at the start of the comp and at the end. That's why I put a £25 each way bet on him in this comp. Go Zippy!  8)

Holy ****!

Zippy's just won me over £4200! I need to buy him a drink!!!!! Great result for both of us Zippy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  ;woohoo;

Cracking updates as always!

Actually Paul, my general view has not been that I don't like savers. It's that savers affect the subsequent play. There's a world of difference between those two views.

TK thats my view exactly.

And if you think a saver changes the subsequent play, do you not agree that the "lock down" of £10k for 13th to 6th GREATLY affected the subsequent play? - THAT was the point I was trying to make.

Not once did I say the deal was wrong - as it is not for me to say "right" or "wrong" as I was not involved.

Yes, of course it affected the play. That's the only reason I "won" the £750 at Luton - the game played different after we did the deal.

I say again......

I don't, generally, have a problem with savers. I have done scores of them.

Savers affect the play of the game. I don't have a problem with that, generally.

A very great many things affect subsequent poker play. It is up to players to make the necessary adjustments to their game to best suit the new conditions.

As has been said before, no one ever has to agree to a deal/prize structure alteration. If any player feels that a deal would not be to their advantage, they can refuse.

well done zippy and all the others who made the big money.
my take on the deal- if people want to deal they will, if they don't they wont. I can't believe people keep harping on about deals like they are ruining the game, its our money and if we want to distribute it in what we see as a more fit way then thats our choice. Saying the chip leader must have been leaned on is also a joke, in this game a chip lead can be wiped out in a couple of hands( we have all been there). In the recent big omaha comp on stars I was chip leader approaching the bubble and out 2 hands later after twice flopping the nuts with cover, bad things happen in poker and 10k each for the next few out was a good deal imo. It wouldn't have changed the game dynamics that much as they were still playing for a 75k 1st prize. The chip leader when the deal was done was Mick and I can promise you he will not be leaned on in a deal (he is notorious for not being a fan of deals)- obviously with it turning into a crapshoot he felt it was the right decision.

AAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Awesome result for Matt, nice bloke and a very good player, also nice to see a Walsall regular take a big chunk of the cash!!
He was also one of my 2 tips :D
If Alrightjack reads this i did think it odd that Matt said he felt outclassed in the event the other week (he qualified thru Blusqr) as he has been a regular winner at Walsall and The Broadway for a while now.

I do have a question about the deal(s), Grosvenor introduced a rule a year or so back stating that deals were not to be approved/acknowledged by the card rooms, have they changed the rule back?
I think floppy said they froze the clock for deal making?

BlueSq/Grosvenor were taking pictures of Zippy with the £100,000 over-sized cheque, so I assume what you said is still the case.
