Title: PSTARS $2,500 TODAY
Post by: wsopin07 on September 18, 2005, 07:19:10 PM
IS ANYONE PLAYING?

Im going to give it a chance, should be a big field

Title: Re: PSTARS $2,500 TODAY
Post by: jbsc7769 on September 18, 2005, 08:25:41 PM
My guess is about 1300, will no doubt be the biggest ever prize pool on the internet, in fact, one of the "bigger" events in poker history full stop. Considerably more than most of the WPT events. Good luck "WSOPin06". I am off to bed later but I will listen to it on the radio when I wake up (details in PokerStars lobby before anyone asks!), assuming it will be going on for more than 10 hours. My guess is 14.5 hours, any advance on that?

Title: Re: PSTARS $2,500 TODAY
Post by: jbsc7769 on September 18, 2005, 09:42:49 PM
I agree, maybe about $850,000 first prize. the prize pool has now cleared 3.6million !!!

Yes, I think it may be an hour or so before it is there, maybe even after the event has started. The radio show has broadcast for every event and has been pretty cool. They have had Barry Greenstein, Wil Wheaton, Greg Raymer, Chris Moneymaker, Lee Jones and loads of other co presenters. THere is about a 30 second delay which I gather is so the players can not pcik things up! It is only the finla two tables they broadcast though.

Bet you didn't think you had two over card when you went in with the K3

Bad news Brian, next time

DC is running over his table I think

I'd be interested to hear if DC liked having his table broken there. He was all over that 1st table too.

well my real mistake in this deal was the 1st time i had JJ and wasted 2,000 after a flop w/ an A.

I hope DC can pull through in this one that would be good for him ;D

15.5k for DC. Large pot pre flop, ragish flop, opponent played it like an overpair, DC lays it down.

Brutal!!!!

DC raises one off button. Flop 3c9s9c. Caller checks DC bets three quarters of the pot to be called. Turn ace. Check check. River 7c. 1050 bet by the caller - DC calls quickly to be shown 9h3h!!!! Down to 12.7k

DC raises pre flop UTG to 450ish (Blinds 75-150) 3 callers.

Flop 5sQsJh. DC bets 1500 one caller.

Turn 3d. DC bets 4k odd. Caller moves all in.

DC shows AQ caller shows AJ spades.

River was a blank DC on 21k.

What I'm wondering is, do the more "famous players" (I hesitate to use the word better, not out of disrespect, but because it's very subjective to say who is a better player) know who each other is? Or do they each have an entire backroom staff bent on tracking down each other's pseudonyms (spellling?) ;D

How did DC in the 500Euro at Barcelona last night Brian?

Tikay said he was flying at one stage...
You rubbing it in again Camel ? I wouldnt be playing stars if I made the final!
You will be glad to know I blew out 13th but Pascal was chip leader. He would probably go top of the rankings if he won it.

Ave stack 9.6k DC comfortable and steady on 21k in 50th spot out of the 770 remaining. (10th is only on 30k)

Picked up blinds once a round. No collisions recently.

The €500 in Barca Dave? Well I don't know who WON it, but what you really wanna know, is did Pascal win it.....!

No, he did not!

Steve Vladar, who got 7th, said Pascal busted out earlier, in rather odd circumstances.

Pascal had a HUGE pile of 1k chips, with another tidy pile of 5k chips to the LEFT of the 1k stack. There's no action, Juha Helppi, to Pascal's right is in the SB & Pascal the BB. It gets to Juha, who, only seeing Pascal's 1k chips, moves in from the SB with T-7. Pascal calls in a shot with A-J, & Juha hits his 7. Pascal is down to the felt, & exits next hand.

Actually Tony I'm only joking.

I had a chat with someone yesterday who catergorically stated that 4 players in the top 10 currently have done deals which have not been reported.

If true, and I have no reason to diubt the word of the guy I was talking to, the players are cheating.

Pascal was not one of the 4. And I will be funking for the players who are clean from now on...

We got 3 lined up at the moment. A little Heads-Up jobbie on Stars this week. A Crypto one in early October - first week, I think, details to be confrmed shortly, and a HUGE one later in October, on Titan Poker, a Freeroll (but with $25 rebuys) with a LOT of added $$$'s, $5,000 I think. And a $500 Bounty on both El Blondie & Tony G. Full details here....

I had him as that previously also, but it is widely reported (twoplustwo amongst other sources) that he is playing under Buster Love now.

I'd speculate that due to his ties with Absolute, he probably doesn't want to be widely recognised as playing on "competitor" sites now, hence the change....

Incredible! Back to back aces for TonyG. The second time, he gets allin on an Ace high flop...... against AK which is drawing dead.

Tony 2nd in chips, with twice average chips and 15 players left. Just a while ago he was allin with 33 against QQ and flopped the set.

2 WSOP bracelets? I'm sure he outplayed everyone and luck didn't come into it!!!

Yes, Sweden is the capital of Norway. Or rather, a city in Norway. Eeehh, let's say it's a small town in Norway. Well, to be perfectly honest, it's just a road crossing with a few shops that call themselves a town. And besides, no Norwegian will ever admit that he lives in Sweden, so let's just call it "somewhere where they speak almost as strange as in Norway".

Iknow that Vendetta has now doubled up, but he got himself so low by raising, but passing to every reraise. I couldnt see the point. Hes probably raising with junk, but he was only damaging himself by never following through.

Its a lot easier talking as a spectator, but you must draw the line some time, or dont play that way

Views?

Yes I thought it was odd. Everytime Ven raised aaaaaaa would pop him and he'd (Ven) laid down. Must have done about 350k that way

MCStuntz on Ladbrokes is a guy called Mark Cass who works as a stuntman for a living, and I seem to remember he's from Hertfordshire, so I assume it's the same guy. I got to know him on the poker cruise last year (he made the money) - a really nice guy so if it is him on Stars I'm very pleased for him.

I think if i was him i would play on,he's only 350k in chips away from being able to deal for 400k cash.

I would play really hard at the pot for 2/3 hands and then make a deal

Title: Re: PSTARS $2,500 TODAY

Deal propsed by Lee Jones gave $348,000 to fourth - PickledEgg (shortstack) says no and offers to wrap it up if he gets $400,000. Two big stacks say no to this. Looks like they're going to start dealing cards.

Title: Re: PSTARS $2,500 TODAY

It's just that in those kinds of deals the short stacks should get slightly more than their chip equity

And the big stacks should get slightly less.

Not easy for the players, especially the big stacks to see it that way though.

Panella86 types in "JORDAN BERKOWITZ - don't forget it". If this is his name, it makes him underage - http://www.syncmag.com/article2/0,1895,1763272,00.asp.

... then a lot denied it, cofused

I found a link on another site, which in turn linked elsewhere, which had a list of pros v supposed Pokerstars usernames.

http://www.majorwager.com/fusetalk/messageview.cfm?catid=22&threadid=139946&CFID=1024921&CFTOKEN=68970885

They do seem to think in this thread that Harrington is Pickled Egg?

Might be a nice little project for someone. Try to get together a database of pros and their usernames on each site. That would get some internet traffic.

PS They got Dave's wrong?

what you may not know is that the person who posted that it wasn't Harrington on this thread would know this for a fact.
So i think it's safe to say it ain't him

Aha. I missed a chunk of a thread due to that pesky irritant known as 'work'. Just seen the post you are referring to and I know the score now!

Still liking the idea of a usernames to players database!!

Just to say a quick thank you for the support this morning folks...it was emotional as tikay would say
 ;D
Apparantly the window closed immediately after my exit, and I entered speechless shock as I realised I had just blown a fantastic shot at the odd 800 THOUSAND...so just in case anyone was interested, this is approximately how the grissley tale ended..
I held AJ in mid-position. Barry Greenstein passed (He had been raising and taking many a pot unchallenged just prior)
The BB was 1600 sb 800 ante 100
I made it 4800 to play just hoping to collect another 3300 unchallenged
I held 117,000 at the start of the hand and was in 12 place overall.
The Big Blind was DREAMER who just had me covered (about 125,000)...for this reason it is possible that I should have played the hand slower
Everyone passed but DREAMER called (he did not re-raise)
The flop was A J 8 two hearts (and lots of straight draws)
I feel the sort of hands he would call with are 10 Q, 9 10 or similar...so the flop is dangerous and i must bet my hand
Hopefully he will get stubborn with a worse Ace rag hand.
There is just over 11,000 in the pot...he checked, I bet 8,000, he called, I think he has Ace rag
The turn was a 3... with a bit of luck he has just made Aces Up two pair
The pot is 27,000 He checks, I bet 18,000
He calls and raises another 18,000 it is 630 in the morning in a Barcelona Hotel and the alarm bells don'g ring
there is over 80,000 in the middle, i have 76,000, it is 18,000 to call
As Kenny Ford says 'How could I pass?'
If I call the 18,000 we would have a 100k pot and he is going to bet most or all of my remaining 60k on the river.
He may be drawing to a flush and straight (unlikely) or an AK or AQ...so I automatically move all-in
In reality the more likely hands are about EVENS I am winning. He either has two pair or a set.
He had a set of Jacks (it is hard to believe he didn't re-raise pre-flop)

The unlucky bit was the coupe happened v the other huge stack...if only it could have been against a nice 12,000 short stack

...it HAS been emotional....

Loved the rational there Dave and its good to see you are crytical of your own play as well. I like the fact you had yourself down as evens to being in front (most players would be certain that they were in front in that spot), you could smell the set I think. You played it quick and when the money went in you knew he had at least 2 pair or a set.
About time some of the big names put honest oppinions on hands up instead of just claiming you were cold decked/unlucky etc. You kept me up half the night and I really did believe you were going all the way when you got above 100k.
I don't think he reraised preflop as he didn't like his hand- the last 3 hands you had raised with were AK KK and QQ ( or the last 3 we had seen anyway) and I think he wouldve been willing to release without hitting his set.
Well played anyway and some good entertainment was had along with some great poker viewed (just how many resteals did you run on Greenstein? I lost count).

That hand analysis added to the learning, thanks DC

This is interesting and probably correct. He probably didnt raise because he was warey of me. It is often easy to forget which hands have been shown. For example if DREAMER had seen the hands I turned over in the first hour, he would have thought I was an absolute beginner. I hadnt realised these were the last 3 shown hands.

I must admit I got a lot of enjoyment from Barry in the blinds. The idea was just to check and call if I had anything but to raise him if I had nothing (because more often than not he is at-it...worse than bradley and the camel combined). Barry will call if he thinks he has pot odds though and has plenty of chips, so care was needed. You can't play all at-it merchants though, because they simply aren't good enough to pass.

Thanks again for the support (and company thru the nite)

Hi DC

I've only just read this and seen the results as we had no electricity here in Paris all day . First congratulations and comiserations . From what you wrote i would say the reason the guy just flat called rather than reraise from the BB is this , first he knows that you are unlikely to be raising his BB with no hand as he can take you out and secondly he also doesn't want to raise you with JJ , as if you get stubborn with AKs he now has to make a decision as to whether he is no worse than even money and does he want to risk his stack to find out .

Even if the flop had been T high i am sure he would have played cautiously , any overs and he would have tossed his JJ if you breathed on the pot , i am sure if you hadn't been playing 8 hours already you would not have gone broke on this hand , once he check called on the flop you would have slowed down .

I still think the fact you beat so many players should give you a timely boost of confidence in time for the Vic , see you there .

Maybe you should have pushed w/ that 4 7 ??? ;D

Hopefully this hand will stick in the back of my mind and I can draw from it some day!

Well, this is just jaw-droppingly good - analysis from His Blondeness, & comment from Aces & Brian. Great stuff, from which we can all learn how these boys think.

Almost the whole of blonde tuned in the whole night, and what a rich harvest we reaped - El Blondie & Tony G giving us the "inside line" as they both battled for the biggest purses of their career. The mere fact they they were prepared to post at all was something else.

I'll also share with you that Dave is "running bad" right now, truly. He picked up AA against QQ, but QQ boy only had a handful of chips, & he had KK v JJ, JJ boy ditto. As for the exit hand, well, we regular guys think on a lower level, but top two pairs is tough to get away from, & for Dave to believe Rob H had a set of Jacls meant he had to believe the case J had fallen - which it had. Brutal.

I had barely slept for 3 night - nor had DC for that matter, we had a problem in the hotel, but, like so many others, I ended up glued to my 'puter screen all night. Such is the magic of community poker, when one of ours is involved we feel a need to be there to support them.

I know this sounds ukky yukky, buit how lucky we are. Where else could we get this level of interaction, direct from the table, as it were, with two of Europe's top pros?

Yes, I know for a fact Bundle and me watched it from start to finish, how sad eh.
But it was great fun, just wish i was playing in it too.
The winner definately asked for poker stars if they could transfer the winnings to another account, but they said ,NO. They could only pay the actual account he was using, but he 'd be able to transfer it himself.
On the radio they said he would probably be broke in a year if he didnt change, too much gamble I think they meant, B Greenstein said he hopes he comes and looks him up with his 500k.

Like its been said, Im sure u only have to be 18 to play, and whats to say he wasnt playing on his lap top in a country where 18 is the legal gambling age? Ive read this argument somewhere on the web, but the concensus was he will get paid because he can say he was playing anywhere, and Im sure some US lawyer would lick his lips at this case.

Interesting end to the thread. PokerStars rules state that the minimum age to play on the site is should be 18 years old OR the minimum age for the area that he lives........and NO it is not Dan Harrington, i think that has been very well documented now in many areas.

It was his friend's account that he was playing on last night.

Ive just came across this elsewhere on the web:One thing to make clear.

Panella = Jim Panella, a friend of Jordan.  Eddystone is in PA, near Delaware.

derrobbie / PagonaB = Jordan Berkowitz, the person who is the skilled poker player.  He lives in Media, which is about 15 minutes from Eddystone (and about 15 minutes from where I live).

I guess this sorts out the age problem if Jim is 21 ;) ;)
by the way derrobbie is the acc  panella wanted the money paid into

I think everyone is missing the point about online gaming in the US. It is illegal to gamble on line anywhere in the US except through approved horse bettibg sites.

EVERY DIME PLAYED ON THE NET FROM THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA IS BEING DONE ILLEGALLY!

THATS IT END OF STORY, NO EXCEPTIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This will change soon im sure, then everyone in the US will need a good buddy over seas so we can lie about where we live ;D

It is, perversely, in the interests of the big sites, who are all registered overseas, that online poker remains illegal in the US.

For as long as this is the case, the big B&M Vegas operations are prevented from entering their market and cleaning up

I totally agree, it will become a hudge problem for players in the US very soon, they will want to tax it, there will always be reasons to play online outside the US.

People just need to realize what it is, ILLEGAL, I dont care, I just think alot of people do not understand this point.

But internet poker exists in a grey area. It is certainly illegal for US citizens to play poker in the US (outside the casinos), but it's fine if they go abroad and play there. The internet poker sites (and players) maintain this is what is happening on the poker sites - the US players are playing poker abroad (because that is where the poker servers are).

but really, it will become a very big beal very soon, buy stock in the company that makes the US goverment happy and you will make alot of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
