Title: Aussie millions, still in at dinner
Post by: Pab on January 15, 2007, 09:34:15 AM
Just made the dinner break on day 1, have around 25k i think, blinds will be 300/600 after dinner with an ante, and we play two more 90 min levels to complete the day. Its been a fustrating day for me, not had any opportunites to build a stack really. A key confrontation was when i raised AK to 1250 (blinds 200/400 - 50)  and a guy shoved making it 5k more for me to call. I make the call and he shows KK, doh, no A and i see my possible jump start dissappear.  Had no big names on my table, but the one next to ours is the feature tv table, and that had an intersting line up of, Phil ivey, gus hansen, enelyn ng, kathy liebert to start the day.  Its been rotated since and hachem is on there now, recieving big cheers from the local crowd anytime he wins a pot, lol.

Gotta shoot now, hopin for a double before the end of play, but wont force anything ( I hope)

Just got back to my room after the last 2 levels of the night and im still in, :-)

Was very eventful session to say the least. Early in the session, i flat call a raise of 2000, (300/600 - 75) with TT on the button, only to see the action go 4 way, eek. Flop was 6 3 2, both blinds checked to the raiser who bet 6k, now i was really stumped here, had no idea what to do with my hand. I ended up calling the 6k, then the SB moved in for like 7k more, but then the original raiser moved in making it an easy fold, but 8k to find out my TT was no good, :-(. Pusher from the blinds had 77, and rasier had QQ, no help for the 7's.

After raising and passin once, then a few more orbits of the blinds, my stack was at a meager, 10k when a ' 7 4 off hand came into play, lol. Im in the BB, and just the SB completes, the flop is K 7 6 and he checks, I minimum bet 600 just to see what happens, he peers over and goes 'whats that? 600?, make it 2500 in his deepest voice, and slams his chips down, lol. I think the only bit ive read in caro's book of tells is the part where he says slammin chips down is weak, so I went with my instict and shoved it in. He immediately looks uncomfortable :-), and passes whatever he had, maybe a better 7, but who knows!. moral of that little story is 7 4 pwns, holla!   lol

No good hands or situations arise then the blinds are pumped to 400/800 - 100, so starting to feel a little desperate again with around 13k. The I get my double up. Im in the BB with AJ clubs and a new guy at the table makes it 2k to play in mid-late position. I think I have too many chips to shove over the raise and have no real info on the player, so i flat call. The flop is A 9 2 rainbow, i check, he bets 2500. This is as good as flop as im going to get, and am not folding with my stack, if im beat im beat. Turn is a Q, i check, he bets 6k, i move in for 5k more. He instantly stands up and says fuck, now im happy. with a resigned look on his face, he calls my additional 5k with QJ, river is an irrelevant A, and im back in business.

A raise and a continuation bet takes me to around 32k, and with 20 mins till the end of the day im comfortable with my chips to come back tomorrw. I get JJ in mid-position and make it 2500 (400/800 - 100) and it folds to the BB, who is the QJ guy from earlier and he announces all in. Its around 14k more to me, just under half my chips. I had a little think, and made the call, he turns over 44. I lost JJ vs 44 earlier in blackpool this year, when i first met tikay, so a stange feeling of deja vu came over me and I could hardly watch the board come down, thankfully this time my hand held and we lost another player!

My final chip count for the night is 51900,  with the levels starting at 500/1000 - 100  tomorrow.  Overall was very pleased with how i played, made a lot of moves when i had chips, some worked, some didnt, but got the lunatic image I wanted. Thanks to all for the good luck messages, will hopefully have a story to tell tomorrow of a full days poker.

Just in case anyone thinks otherwise, it was not me in Blackpool with the 4-4, that was an extraordinary play by 4-4 man! (But it was me with naff all in the Walsall Cash game....)

Its very late so I wont go in to the details but I made it to the end of Day One also, I have 59,600 chips, average is around 49k i believe. Due to a stomache bug i only got three hours sleep last night, not great preparations but still... Been fun, had Barney Boatman, Mark Vos and Andy Bloch to name but a few on my table.
I hope Tikay doesnt mind me mentioning it, the PokerStars blog is covering how I am getting on if anyone is interested. Also nice to see a load of my mates mailing me wanting an increased percentage!, lol

yes, she is, she is playing the 'Poker Pro' and raiilng me. She actaully won about $400 on it today which is very funny. Pab, i certainly will, I wish you the very best of luck. I think i was on the table next to you today from what you said (i ended up on 9), at least at the end of the day. Thanks Rod, appreciate the good wishes. The guy next to me had aces SIX time in the last few hours. I havent had it once...very jealous! Best thing of the day was the rail giving me a good round of applause when i rereraised a guy all in on a 8754x board and got him to put down a decent hand. I was a little naughty and showed my Jack high bluff. Nice the rail appreciated it though.

I was down to 26k aftre that but have now built up to 70k. very disappointed at the mo. tryuing to clear my head and go back after lunch to try and won it, no limping to the money.

Made the dinner break of day 2, but has been a bumpy ride.

I started with 50k, but soon shot up to 65k with a few early pots, then i played a hand really bad IMO. I raise to 3k, (500/1k - 100) with 99 and the big stack calls me on the button. The flop is J 2 3 rainbow and I fire 5k. He then asks me How much I have left, but its a silly question as my 5k chips are at the front and he not gonna shove me in for 60k more, After he asks the question im sure he has nothing, and as im counting anyway, he says make it 15k. I call his bet and the turn pairs the 3, I should have trusted my read moved in there n then, but instead lead for 15k and he calls me pretty quickly. To compound my error even more I check on the river and he essentially sets me in with a 20k bet. I go into the tank, but end up bottling it and passing only to be showed AK, Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!  This is an occasion where I think the magnitude of the event clouded my judgement as I didnt wanna exit looking stupid when he turns over J's full or something. I should have trusted my read and shipped it in on the turn when I thought a safe card had come.

That table broke pretty quickly, but i did manage to get ina re-raise with KK, and shove on a 8 4 4 flop to make me a little more comfortable chip wise. ON my table I took a few pots down pre-flop and on the flop to get back to around 65k, then an interstin hand occurs where in theory I coulld have got my money in drawing dead but i trusted my read on the situation unlike earlier. the big stck at the table limps in Mid-postion (800/1600 - 200) as he often did and some other guy limps in the cut off. I look at 3 5 spades on the button and pop it 7k. Big stack thinks for a little while and calls me, then the cutoff fold. The big stack had been raising all pairs and all Ax KQ KJ hands from any position and put him on some sort of suited connector type hand. The flop comes 4 4 8 with 2 spades, he checks and I bet 15k, he almost insta-calls me. This isnt usually a sign of strength either live or online, the check insta call so Im still intent of firing a second bullet If i think its right. The turn is an off-suit T, and he checks to me, I move in for about 44k, he thinks for about 20secs and passes, I say, good fold KK and im up near the 100k mark.  Shortly after this, I watch england win the cricket (just) but all is well in the world, lol, how quick things would change.

Next is a series of bad plays, bad situations and mis-reads on my part that eventually make me short-stacked again. I flat call a raise with AK, miss the flop and pass. Then big stack raises UTG to 6k, from 1600 and I call on the button with JJ. The flop is A 5 5 and he bets 10k. The original raise was more than he usually did leading me believe he ahd a similar hand to mine, mid-strong pair. So i pop him to 25k to try and take down a chunky pot if he doesnt have the A, but am met by a prompt all in, oops, tikay misread on my part. I have a dwell, huff n puff and pass obv. Then I make a really bad play IMO. With the BB still at 1600 I open the pot for 4.2k on the button with AT, sb folds and the pretty tight solid player calls. The flop is 6 3 6 and he leads out for 6k. I really did have a brain malfunction this hand and cant really remember what I was thinking at the time but it was clearly rubbish. I flat called his 6k on the flop and the turn was a J. He checks, and I quickly bet 16k, only to my dismay to be met with another all in, ffs. Another short dwell, and pass, sigh. We then have a break and commence the next level of 1k/2k - 300  and i had about 40k. I played solid throughout the whole level, moving over the top of a raise with AK once, and raising AJ once for everyone to pass. Then UTG makes it 6k, and the small blind calls, I look at my cards in the BB and see AA, :-) I make it 20k with about 35k behind, original raiser folds, and after a look at my remaining stack the SB opts to call. Flop is Q T 8 and he checks, I have to shove and be prepared to walk if he has QQ or TT, He goes into the tank for around 5 mins, now I know im ahead and he eventually folds, but isnt happy, says something to me in a foreign langauge and goes off to the rail to talk to his friend.

All in all ive played a mix bag really, some really good poker, mixed in with some really shocking poker, as well as losing my testicular fortitude in the early part of the day. Just about to head down after the dinner break, with around 81k stack, with the blinds at 1200/2400 and a running ante of 400 (eek). We play 3 more 90 min levels tonight, with the final one being 2k/4k - 500 so IM sure to have a story to tell by then, one way or another!

i looked up " derbyshires ancient history " and found you mentioned.  quotes included  " so old he remembers when the dead sea was just feeling ill."          "so old even his teeth have wrinkles."       "   so ugly that if you threw a boomerang it wouldn't come back."

also found a couple of family snapshots

i looked up " derbyshires ancient history " and found you mentioned.  quotes included  " so old he remembers when the dead sea was just feeling ill."          "so old even his teeth have wrinkles."       "   so ugly that if you threw a boomerang it wouldn't come back."

also found a couple of family snapshots

Oi - that's last year's "Miss Derbyshire".

Just got back to room upon the completion of day 2 and im still in

Too tired to write a full report, but peaked at around 200k, blinds at 1.5k/3k and 2/4k. I laid down bottom set when got put all in to play a 400k pot , flop was all clubs. Had to raise and pass a few times. End product is 92k with bllinds at 2.5k/5k - 500 tomorrw so still a little room to work with not a lot tho.

Thanks again for all the good messages, and will hopefully fly the blonde/uk flag all day 2mrrw, ;-)

ty all, play starts in about 30 mins.

The 20 BB stack is a little decieving due to the ante, so it makes me look more comfrotable than I actually am, also the blinds go up in like 9 mins. We are also playing 7 handed today so will defiantely be some moving and shaking pretty early from me!

Before we unrack chips our table is moved so we are the feature 'TV table'. I had around 175k, with blinds of 5k/10k - 1k ante. IM in the BB on like the 4th hand, and an unknown player raises to 30k in the cut-off, for reasons I cant explain I moved all in holding 33 with no real information on the player, and looking back, too many chips to risk with that hand. He insta calls me with AA, gus hanses tells me he folded an A, lol so if a 3 hits im golden. A flops instead and its all over. It was only the 2nd time I was all in and called the whole comp, from 770 players down the 35 so happy about that. I think the 'TV table' may have made me apprehensive and I panicked when faced with a marginal situation so early, hopefully will learn from the experience and be in a similar position another day.

Thanks again, is a little disappointing when looking back on it, to play so well for 2 1/2 days, then 1 error and its all over. I do think my error in judgement was influenced by the 'tv table' and having gus hansen directly on my left, I made a crucial error in a marginal pot.

Hopefully if im still playing poker at tikays age (lol) i wont make those schoolboy errors

Great work Pab, i wondered around to try and find you but nothing struck me as 'Pab' in the names, lol! I had a great day, I made the final table of the $1050 Team Event, ended up fiinishing in 6th place and was chip leader for most of the event. The final nail in the coffin was KK again! Cut off raises, My partner in SB reraises all in, BB calls with AA! Still, payout was ok and a lot fun, quite a nice way to have a blowout after the main event. Tomorrow is the $550 so will also play out. I will look out for you now I know your name Pab, well done again, awesome result.

Nice work in the team event!

I doubt ill play the 550 tomrrw, will probably go wander round melbourne, gettin somw fresh air, 1st time in 3 days, lol

my nickname, 'Pab' came about when i was in school and played sunday league football. At our end of season awards night, our manager fancied himself as a bit of a comedian and when I went up to collect a trophy, I was introuduce as pablo foltinio, a portugues import. Then in training pablo turned into Pab, an seems to have stuck, lol

Pab don't beat yourself up, you are 6 handed with a short stack on a slow table (tv tables always are) even against unknowns pushing 33 here is +EV.
