Unfortunately Maruxz, i couldnt play this year... filming the final scenes of my latest movie today, and then i have numerous TV and Radio appearances booked for tomorrow morning, my agent has managed to keep my schedule free for Saturday evening and sunday though, so I may make an appearance to cheer on a few friends then.  I can normally be found at the bar area on the first floor...  you wont miss me, just follow the hoards of excited women clamouring for an autograph  :)

Jen is here, but struggling with her new Vodafone Thingy, she can't seem to get the Adult Content Bar lifted - Vodafone apparently deem blonde as"Adult Content".

I gather that of the 256 seats offered for sale, 234 have been sold.

Come on Jen, I NEED her to get up & running, I can't recall being so strressed since I retired.

Maruxz,

Hi.

Most famous players here?

Well, of those I have actually SEEN so far, I'd say Greg Raymer, Dave Colclough, Tony G, Joe Beevers, Barny (or was it Ross) Boatman, Sverre Sundbo, Henning Gradstad.

Jen seems to be "connected" now, so I'm off on patrol, try to calm myself down, I am wound up like a spring.

Welcome Maruxz to your first blonde Live Update. It's gonna be fun.

Hello - finally Vodaphone have deemed adult content to be appropriate reading material for yours truly.  And as a fringe benefit, I can help with the update.

Looks like it wil be pretty frenetic, as there are a couple of sim cards short of a...well, enough.  So the lovely people from Antes Up as well as the maverick Update King Rolf Slotboom will be hanging around in our corner.  Nothing like a bit of extra technology to make one look popular.

There has just been an announcement regarding the Start Day Draw - any player found swapping his start day will be disqualified... We don't know everyone's day yet but when they get it they'd better keep hold of it.

About half an hour til anything resembling poker starts to happen

Post by: Djinn on September 30, 2005, 03:58:58 PM
Hello all watching - Yes, consider F2 covered...

I am still waiting on the full lists of who's drawn which day, but spotted taking their seats are:

Simon Nowab
Pascal Perrault
Barny Boatman
Ram Vaswani
Mike Lacey (of Antesup fame - qualified so cannot update - I'm sure he's gutted)
Bad Girl
Dave C
Julian Thew (although not sure if he's playing today yet)

All the Norwegians will also be covered thanks to a combination of my notepad and Woody's knowledge of their names and what they look like.  Due to the connection shortage, we've all banded together to help each other cover the counts etc.

I have yet to see the inimitable Mr. Tann, but this doesn't mean anything conclusive - the players are taking their seats and Rolf and I will do our first full scout as soon as it kicks off.

More hugs, from Isabelle (playing tomorrow) and Bad Giirl (playing today).

I get stressed out about the UK Poker stuff, then they calm me down with a hug, then I get stressed again, more hugs......

Julian Thew is playing today.

Jen, working as a team with Woody from Norway and Rolf Slotboom from Holland, is compiling a Master List of every player that the 3 of them, collectively, know or recognize, & we'll post it as soon as it's done.

maruxz - Yes, Eddy is taking pics for bolnde right now,.

I know it - yes, we will get the Omaha results as soon as we can, it's just a wee bit busy here right now.

I believe one of the Chandra brothers won, but I'll confirm that as soon as I can.

Hello folks,

long time Irish lurker here and big fan since last year.

Can you please tell Tom Murphy of Antes Up that his site is down? I'm sure he knows but it will add to his stress! And will you tell him that his arch-nemesis informed you and wishes Mike Lacey good luck too.

Thank you!

btw, it's none of my business why you are having a problem with UK Poker but if you are refering to a certain portly gentleman with the initials MS then I wouldn't allow it to happen. I shall take him down in a 5 euro rebuy game here in Dublin as retribution.

After a little delay, we are starting - with two players having been eliminated for swapping start day cards.  They're not messing about.

Somehow despite having been allowed an extra half hour, about a quarter of the players weren't in their seats when we did the first recce, but here's who we spotted (Thanks to Rolf for spelling their names)

Table D deserves a special mention - it has upon it Dave Colclough, Stuart Nash, Simon Trumper and Mike Lacey.  Going to stand near that one; pity it's in one of the downstairs sections and we're on some chairs upstairs...

Also Playing:
Willie Tann
Sverre Sundbo (go!)
Jan Boubli
Ben 'MilkybarKid' Grundy
Sven Polarski
Michel Abecassis

It appears that the delay might have had something to do with the wrong chips (EPT satellite ones) being given out instead of EPT proper ones.  That has been remedied.  It's an easy mistake to make - Rolf and I just stood getting the names of six players playing cash before we noticed that the chip colours looked a bit odd.

Lawrence Gosney
Richard Gryko
Michiel Brunnelhuijs
Kirill Gerasimov
Kevin O'Connell
Peter Eichhart
Pete Gunnarsson
Jan Sjavik
Paul Roper (he's Irish, assures Mike Lacey, sat two to his right)

The TV Table is behind a giant Pokerstars.com screen type thing, and takes up as much room as any of the other mini-tournament-areas... There are a couple of rows of benches for spectators, and I think I can hear continual hand announcement coming from in there.  Should make my job easier - just listen for "All-in."  I only know one person on it by name, and that's Greg Raymer.

Robert - 3pm here at the Vic; 8pm at Gutshot.

We have also been warned that we're looking at a 5am finish so get comfy.  Blinds currently at 50 - 100.  Full structure when I can nab one of the sheets.

Early casualty in the form of Gavin Simms, whose AA was repeatedly called by the 5 5 of someone of the Scandinavian persuasion... one of the fives four-flushed to knock him out.  I sympathise.  One for the Swedes.

By the way, Ironside is not too well, hence his absence. He says "it's just a bug", but, whatever, I hope he's soon feels better. A Live Update without him around lacks something, especially as we have so many Norweigans here with us today.

Title: Re: The Vic Live EPT Update

Richard Ashby has found himself on the TV table with Mr. Raymer.  He describes it as "a bit slow."  I think there's a lot of folding which I am sure makes for riveting viewing.

The booklet from the Vic actually says they're playing down to 16, or 4am, so there's a slight reprieve.

Structure looks like this (one hour blinds):
50 -100 (currently)
100 - 200
200 - 400
300 - 600
400 - 800 ante 25
600 - 1,200 ante 50
800 - 1,600 ante 100
1,000 - 2,000 ante 100
2,000 - 4,000 ante 200
3,000 - 6,000 ante 300
4,000 - 8,000 ante 500
5,000 - 10,000 ante 1,000

Ever popular Sverre Sundbo news now - down to 4,000 very early on (QQ JJ 10 10 9 9 and QQ again did him no favours), he's rocketed back to 16,000 in a matter of minutes, crippling the other Norwegian on his table in the process.  Something about both flopping trip Jacks, but a higher kicker belonging to Sverre.

Bad Girl has been taking a few hits, but her early chip lead meant that it's all sustainable (20k t0 9k to 25k to 8k at present).  Just recently I saw a bet and call on the turn with the board like this:
5d td jh 8h.  When the  ad hit on the river, she had to call another bet only to see QK for the straight in the other guy's hand.... She describes her afternoon as "Up down, win loss" - so like a poker game then.

Ram's chips: 13,200 at last count

Two tables have been broken so I am going to do a search for all the players previously on them momentarily.

Other counts from last wander:
Pascal Perrault 18,600
Bad Girl            8,500
Sverre Sundbo 17,500
Anders Berg     6,700
Mike Lacey       9,800 (whose play of the day so far is calling Simon Trumper with A high on a paired board with a flush possible, and winning)
Balrog             9,900
Bvdahl            7,500
Greg Raymer   16,000 (hard to tell, though, as we're not allowed on the little stage thing)
Willie Tann       6,400
Vicky Coren     11,000
Mikael Thuritz   10,000
Peter Eichhart  14,000
Lawrence Gosney 6,600

Jan Boubli, Barcelona winner, is OUT - just as the dinner break announcement comes on.  They're restarting at 8pm sharp, so so will I.  In the mean time, the hour approacheth wherein Tikay must be sent to win the Gutshot rebuy event.  Looks like the queues for the internet access may die down some, then.

Who are most famous participants?

Sorry to hijack a thread but when I was patiently waiting to draw my seat I noticed:

Greg Raymer, Chris Moneymaker, Kathy Liebert, El Blondie, Tony G, Jan Slavic, Pascal Perrault, Henrik Gwinner, Tony Bloom, John Shipley and Paul Testud.

No doubt there were several others that I've forgotten to include.

Located table K, in response to question about Dave Shallow, but there was a pot in progress and they get a bit shirty if you ask for a full name list while they're playing... please give me a description, and I'll try to get to him before they start again after the dinner break.  Sorry for lack of information to this point..

Hi Tikay,

looks like a very strong field then. Good choice by me to use my diminishing bankroll for the £100 re-buy at Notts on Sunday, mind you, I had 9 re-buys last time, maybe catch up with you if you make it, wouldn't mind having 15 mins with you, need a bit of advice from an old wise man. Cheers Rob

Also met on my travels some lost North Americans - personable Patrick Powers on Vicky Coren's table (10,100) and Canadian Doug Lee (11,900) who is fresh from success in Las Vegas, as his friend on the side told me.

I think Kathy Liebert is in the country - there was some talk on Wednesday of my interviewing her at some point, but she didn't show up on the night.

John Caldwell is here - Rolf has just returned and said he had a bit of a chat with him earlier.  If he's playing today, he's still in.  If he's not, he's hanging round.  I will try to have him pointed out to me and let you know which one of those is accurate.  Also thanks for the descriptions of Mr. Shallow; I'll do my best.

Found him - Dave Shallow has 9,300 at present

John Gale and Lawrence Gosney's table is short on John Gale and Lawrence Gosney - have to conclude OUT and OUT

Bad Girl also OUT - she put her last 3kish in with QQ, found 44 against her, but Other Guy hit a 4 and she headed from the bar area looking surprisingly cheerful.

Some more post-dinner counts (thanks to Rolf for dividing the table areas for ease of counts):

Vicky Coren      8,300
Mikael Thuritz   9,475
Kevin O'Connell 9,400
Peter Eichhart  21,500
Martin Knape   18,000
Sven Polarski    28,000
Sverre Sundbo  16,900
Stuart Nash        6,200  (he says he "Got damaged before the dinner break - flopped top and bottom pair and had to put it down."
Dave 'El Blondie' 10,400
Richard Gryko     12,200
Simon Trumper   4,900
Simon Nowab    12,900
Kjirsti Grini         16,500
Pascal Perrault    2,500
Ram Vaswani     10,000
Anders Berg       5,200
Balrog              14,900
Bjarne Martinusson 16,000
BVDahl              6,700
Willie Tann        5,700 (after some kind of run in his Aces had with a 2 on a 2 5 2 flop)
George McKeever 17,500

That was my upstairs roundup - will track down Dave Clayton in a few moments.

Just enough time to tell you that they have started that "Hold up for the TV guy" thing when a player is called all-in.  Only a bit of grumbling from an AQ vs 88 race a minute ago: at the same time Simon Trumper was all in facing two potential callers, original raiser DC and Richard Gryko - so while they dwelled and passed the other guys had to be patient.  Simon ended up near the 10,000 mark after picking up the pre-flop raise and call.

Julian just came to tell me an exciting couple of stories, although not for Nameless guy he was up against..
1) Guy meant to raise, but did that One Oversize Chip throw.  Therefore he got four callers, including Mr. Thew in the big blind with 45.  The flop came down 2 3 5, he bet 2k, Julian raised all-in for 6k and Guy passed showing Aces!

2) Same guy all-in on button with the old Aces gets a call with AQ - two Queens on the flop knock him out.  Not the best of days.

Just found out that Norwegian Lady player Kjersti Grini (who's in good shape chipwise right now) is actually a world champion Handball player.  According to reliable informant Woody all Norwegian poker players are also masters of at least one other sport.  Extraordinary.

Another table has broken; blinds are currently 200 -400.

Mike Lacey just snuck out (OUT) without giving details of his post-dinner quickish exit.  "A rush of blood to the head... it's a bit embarrassing."  I left the man be, but Tom is back and I'm sure they're both delighted their site is up and running.  Better let him have a go online then.

Title: Re: The Vic Live EPT Update
Post by: Djinn on September 30, 2005, 09:19:53 PM
With the blinds at 300 - 600, Simon Nowab pushed all-in on the button for 8,875 after some limping around the table had made the pot there and then 2,700.  All the limpers and blinds eventually passed to this strong move, including Kjersti who took the longest and counted down her considerable 26,000 chips.

Back with Yo-Yo - there had clearly been some sort of preflop action as there was over 2500 in the pot.  It was between him (S.B.) and the B.B. on a flop of  4c ad 3h.  He bet out 1,200 and the big blind passed; he has around 10,300 now.

Sverre just doubled up Tom Murphy's mate Dave O'Callaghan with  qc qd vs Dave's  kc kd.  So Sverre down to 9,000ish and Dave up to 14,000, and off for a smoke with Tom.  What a bad influence, eh?

Incidentally, the AQ holder featuring a few posts earlier is Mr. Rene Peterson, sitting two to Julian's left (not too comfortable a position I'd imagine).  He has 20,800.

******15 minute break*******

Julian Brings Another Interesting Hand:  Chris Bjorin holds  js jc on the big blind.  UTG, Kiril raises w/  ad ac.
The next player along calls with  6c 6d.

Flop brings  3c 4h 6d (unsuited, at any rate - I just love using the little cards)

Chris checks, Kiril Bets.  The 66 goes all-in rather happily I presume, for 8,000.  Chris passes rather easily, considering how long most people would take over this kind of decision, but Kiril calls and doubles the set up.  Interesting, eh?  Especially considering 4th street was  jh.  Annoying when worse play would have been rewarded rather largely...ah well.

Ladies and Gents, we have a new TV table and it's That Table.  Yes, Simon Trumper, El Blondie et al are all moving into the limelight.  It looks like they're giving Greg Raymer a break - he's been demolishing the table and is up to 40k or thereabouts.  Players went in, players came back out.  At least that's what it looked like over here in Laptop Corner.  Anyway, a little while after they moved Chandra Khajuria (22,000 at that time) to Greg's left, and he'd knocked out his sixth player or so, they all filed out for this break and are giving other people the mics.

It also appears that Vicky Coren is OUT from the vehement gesticulation in the cash game area, and with the blinds going up to 400 - 800 with an ante others will soon follow.

Hello there wsop - Dave is clinging on to around 5,000 but it's hard to tell from the sidelines... No - hold that - Dave moved all-in for 4,850 on a flop of
 7c 8s 3s

Call from Sven Polarski with  ad 7s

Dave held    tc  9h

The turn came  5c, the river  ts!  He doubles up to over 10k.

Other TV table counts:

Gusten Sjaberg 17,500
Richard Gryko    38,000
Simon Trumper  7,000
Sven Polarski     22,000

Other Yo-Yo count - 23,000 after making, according to Phil Quayle, a huge call for all his chips.

So - Greg Raymer moved from the TV table with over 45,000 in chips.  I just so happened to see him call a guy all-in just now with  jd jc vs.  ks  kh.  The Kings did their job and doubled the guy up to 42,000, which means he just lost about 20k in that one hand.  Ouch.  To his left Chandra Khajuria has 25,000.

Kiril Gerasimov (To Mr. Thew's right) has just taken out Michiel Brunnelhuijs taking his stack in two big hands.
I caught the second one where on a board of  qc qs 3c he moved all-in with  kd tc and was called by Kiril's  ad 6d.  No help came and the Dutch player is eliminated (Rolf looked briefly saddened)

OK, The_nun has spoken.

BTW, our paths have crossed before. At an SNG at the Betfair forum night at the Gutshot, I was the guy whose eyes you spent a wonderful ten seconds looking into whilst deciding whether your pair of nines were good in the face of my limp/reraise all-in.

Title: Re: The Vic Live EPT Update

So Julian's table now looks like this (after Julian made a brave move with pocket eights on a 7 Q 9 board, betting 10k against his opponent (the button) who called with Q K and took 13k off him)...

Julian Thew   6,500
Kiril Gerasimov  36,000
Kevin O'Connell 13,000
Dave Shallow    35,000 (I didn't notice the little stack of blue 5,000 chips for a minute)

Also, I just saw Raymer call KK all-in preflop with his 88... and spike an 8 on the river, sending him back to what must be around the chip lead.

Title: Re: The Vic Live EPT Update

Quote from Greg Raymer about his surprise success for over 20k:  "I thought you had a baby pair, you bet so much.  You got me good; I got lucky."  Hands were shaken, feelings not hard.

Also i spoke to a swede on the phone about 1hr ago, Viet is his name Vietnamese-Swede, he was on Sven's left but is now out, he is planning on checking out the gutshot tomorrow he has no idea how to get there so i told him to "ask the old guy with dyed blonde hair"

Has he narrowed it down to Tikay yet?

While distracted by the excitement upstairs, the lone table remaining downstairs seems to have given Ram Vaswani 40,000 chips, and Anders Berg 30,000.  They are getting rid of the green 25 chips at present, so there's enough time to grab a red bull and try to get the camera to work...

I have to say that despite the new batteries, the Battery Warning Light is still ominously glowing and it won't let me take any more bad pictures.  You might have to wait for the return of Tikay to get the goodness from the camera.  I never said I was any good with technology...

Just before the colourup break, short stacked Simon Trumper moved all-in with  ah 9h, and got a re-raise all-in from Kjersti Grini with  kd 8d .

With no help from the flop, Simon goes back to 10k and the TV table lineup remains the same.

Kiril Gerasimov  a good friend of mine is ready to go blonde. He is one of the best players in the world online and live, this month he said that he has won over 100k in the partypoker pot limit omaha game.
Hope he makes it to the final day. I played Kirill a few years back in the world heads up semi final in Vienna, and he outplayed me (next year I did level the series 1-1). The mob had me 200-1 to win that event on a betting exchnage that they set the odds for, i did back myslef. Now me and Kirill are best friends and I will be able to release the heads up story very soon (as soon as KIrill agrees). It was a very controversioal game, and a huge story to be realesed one day on blondepoker.

Julian 'Yo-Yo' Thew is OUT

Having decided that going through another round of blinds just wasn't for him, he moved in with  8h th.  He got a call from  ah qh.
The board came  5d qd asp 6c 4s, and he headed out... It was just the time to make a move, and with the usual rollercoaster of chips it was break, rather than make, unfortunately.  Well played, though - we've been keeping an eye on him all evening.  There is also a great photo of him stuck in Tikay's dead camera - hope to get it to you today or tomorrow.

Wow TonyG, consider curiosity totally piqued... Kiril has been moved to Raymer's table and made a wavy hand motion over his chips presumably signifying swings.. he's on about 24,000 now, I'd reckon.  Without a doubt been playing well today.

Greg Raymer has to be the chip leader with nearly 90,000.  He was having a chat with Chandra Khajuria who's down to 12,000 (his brother sweating him all the way).

Also been advised to keep an eye on B. Kohli who's up to 50,000, and is having a rather good week having won the £200 Pot Limit already.

Every single thing I ever hear about Greg Raymer leads me to believe that he is an absolute diamond for the poker business. Wins the World Series - gets high in the money next year - seems to continue to cash well in tournaments (as far as I can see) - conducts himself with nothing less than unadulterated aplomb.

What an absolute star.

With the sole table downstairs about to break any minute, we have lost half the field at least.  The blinds are now 800 - 1,600 with a 100 ante.

Chandra Khajuria OUT -
Short-stacked all-in on the button with  ad 8s, he found Kiril in the small blind with  ac kd, who, after pushing off the big blind, knocked him out.

No Red, you haven't missed much... you get the juicy bit where the blinds are rising and the little stacks make stabs at doubling-up.  It's all go here I assure you...

El Blondie doubles up in dramatic style -

In a threeway flop with Richard Gryko and Sven Polarski seeing  3c 4h qc, it was checked to Dave on the button who made it 5,000.  Raised by Richard to 23,000, it folded back to him and he eventually made the decision to move all his chips in.
He held  qd 8s, vs Gryko's  tc kc.

The turn brought a disastrous-looking  ks (or other suit - my eyes are hazy)

But the river the  qh giving Dave a double-up to 37,000.

Due to the connection shortage, we've all banded together to help each other cover the counts etc.

when u list the big boys you should always say

"the rookie would be here but its a long flight" to play

This is what top class poker is all about.

El Blondie has top pair, crap kicker and yet goes over the top of a check/reraise from someone trying it on, and is proved right. Why do we never see this sort of thing on the telly?

Simon Nowab is OUT, I am afraid

Big table change-around as they break the TV table, apparently for the night.  It seems counterintuitive to film the slow bit at the beginning and miss all those 'on their backs' moments now, but there you go.

Kevin O'Connell OUT

Ram Vaswani   30,000
Anders Berg    40,000
Greg Raymer   75,000
Dave Shallow   80,000
Kiril Gerasimov  39,000
El Blondie        34,000
Richard Gryko  47,000

Can't see Paul Roper either...

Simon Trumper's stack shortened dramatically after his KK was cracked by 77.  Seeing as I am relying on informants' informing for this one, I don't know when the money went in, but he's seriously short now...

I am sure Tikay is doing well at Gutshot, as silence means only one (of two) things - he's still in the comp and will probably win it, or he's fallen asleep under a table.

George McKeever is OUT after pushing on the button with KJ and being called by the big blind's KK (as one generally is).

I have the full counts for El Blondie's table, but still struggling with a few names on the others:

Rene Peterson  67,000
Ram Vaswani     42,000
Dave Shallow    40,000
Anders Berg     41,000
Dave Colclough 18,800
Richard Gryko   66,000
Novak Istvan    64,000

22 players remain.  Playing down to 12, or 4am, at last information.

Greg Raymer OUT -

One of those classic QQ (him) vs AK (other guy) hands; the overcard came on the river and knocked the early leader out.  Gracious in defeat, as one would imagine, he came by the update-station for a chat with Rolf.  Clearly having considered his move carefully, his early play amassed a stack of chips, but as he knows, easy come, easy go.

El Blondie Doubles Up -

Re-raising Dave Shallow's initial bet of 8,500 all-in for 27,000 holding  9c 9h, Rene Peterson found  ad ac in the middle and called.

The board ended up after all five came down (after a fold from the initial raiser): 8 5 7 9 5 giving Dave the full house and taking him back up to 55,000.  Whew.

The rest of his table now:
Rene Peterson 31,000
Ram Vaswani   70,000
Dave Shallow   88,000
Novak Istvan   50,000

3 Players out in as many minutes!

Ian Woodley was taken out by the unstoppable Mark Teltscher, making him chip leader by a mile (over 200k)

Rene Peterson's JQ ran into Dubai's AQ and with no help on the board the Ace was enough to knock him out.

Then very short-stacked Asher Hussein moved in on the button with K2 and ran into the small blind's JJ.  So one more player down, and everyone goes home and comes back Sunday.

Disastrous bubble for Dave Colclough - OUT in 13th place...

The flop of  6c 8c 6s looked good to him sitting with  6d ad, and called by Kiril's Jack-high flush draw there was a quiet moment as the turn came  kd

And the river the  2c!  Unlucky finish for him after a long day here.

You LUCKY people to have such a great updater in Jen - she has such a wonderfully quirky way with words. She's a genius, & utterly mad.

Saddened to see Dave C's demise on the bubble - when WILL his luck change?

I will try & extract any pics Jen has taken in the battery-dead camera before play begins tomorrow.

I will be Updating (sorry folks!) from start of play on Saturday at 3pm, but I have to disappear at around 7pm. Jen is missing on Saturday until around Midnight. We will find a way of bringing you updates during the joint absence of Jen & myself between 7pm & midnight.

Been an interestring day - & it's only 0500.

Last words for today - In promise!

There is no Wi-Fi here at The Vic, & no hard-wired internet access either. So the only internet access to the outside world is via a vodafone (or similar) Data Connect Card jobbie. blonde have 2 lappies here - Jen's & mine - each equipped with a Vodafone DCC. Almost nobody else seems to have any access, so we cut a deal with Norwayer Rolf Woods ("Woody on blonde, aka "The Norseman") of WSOP.NO, & Ace Updater Rolf Slotboom, to pool our data collection resources, share the blonde lappies with them, & generally work as a team. All very civilised. Here's a pic of Woody with oir Jen. I'll try & bring you a pic of the handsome & pony-tailed Rolf Slotboom on Saturday.

And a big up to Scott Campbell cowan, the new Zealander who runs The Vic (so far as I can tell) & his  Team of Jeff, Jo & Brian. They could not POSSIBLY have been more helpful to blonde. Whatever we asked for, we got. What we needed, they gave us. Thanks to these Guys, who are great ambassadors for Grosvenor, & parent company The Rank Group.
