Title: EPT Grand Final - Monte Carlo: Day 1B - Interactive
Post by: Djinn on March 29, 2007, 03:17:19 AM
Well, there's no point in pretending that we're not a good ways towards the start of Day 1B now, as we wrap up for the night on Day 1A...  We'll be back at 2pm (1pm UK time) for the same thing, all over again, with different (but no less well-known) players to follow through the start to the marathon that is the €10k EPT Grand Final.

Good luck all playing today.

I may be tempted into a wicked deletion later to ruin all your dreams of pre-preparedness!!

Good job today, now get some rest!

Gonna hit the sack in 20 mins or so, but before I do, just a quick reminder that if you want us to follow a player, whatever his/her nationality, then be sure to tell us who that person is early doors, because once they've broken from their original table, it's a real needle in a haystack job when we don't know what they look like.

cheers,

snoops ;snoopy;

Crikey, DTD are out in full force today, and one of those players will be more confident than any of them, and rightly so after deservedly taking down last week's Cardiff GUKPT. Let's just hope Beppe Le Pew doesn't cause a stink today and cleans up yet again.

I was a busy bee on the way here, stars aplenty. I also bumped into a few Mateyboys, one of which was this chirpy beige trousers sandal wearing satchel carrying chappy. Anyone know him?

He seemed a bit new to the game, so I passed on a few tips.

20 minutes in and it's already first ruling from Thomas Kremser for Antony Mackay - one of the Americans (surely) just made one of those cut-bets holding a bigger stack over the line and taking some back after he'd put a couple hundred in, as is standard in the World Series, and disallowed in the UK.  There is a yellow line round the table, but apparently it's not a betting line in the traditional sense, and that kind of bet is in fact allowed.  American 1; Tony 0.  Let's just hope the dealer doesn't call time on him...

Yes, we don't know how this one happened either...

Early bit of Mateyboy squared action. Amazing, €10k buy-in and these things still happen.

Jh 7h 3h

MB1 has Qh Qc, MB2 has 9h 6h

Turn:

River:

Sometimes it's impossible to see how 300BB's can get in the middle there...

Caught a small but interesting pot involving the Lizard, Tony Bloom. With the board readin 5d 9s Qs 2s Kd, Bloom's 2k bet on the River was reluctantly called by his reluctant Scandinavian opponent who meekly revealed a potentially dominated 5s 4s. Bloom took it down with 8s 7s, but I think his opponent did well to lose so little.

Table Greco has neighbours Rumit Somaiya and Sverre Sundbo on it - I heard the Cardiff winner saying "nice hand" which I assume meant he'd just lost a pot, but his stack looks OK so it must have been a small early one.

And Roy's best buddy, Devilfish (you really can't keep them apart!), who just took a small pot off table opponent Phil Hilm (remember him from the 2006 Copenhagen EPT final?).

Board = 2d Js 4h

Devilfish bet 300, Hilm called.

Turn = Qd

check check

River = Jd

Devilfish bets the pot, Hilm folds.

Devilfish, as relaxed, smarmy and laid back as ever, up to 13,625 after an initial dip.

He may be known online as The Cube, but in the world of snoopy he'll always be 'One Hand' Rumit after his impressive record of first hand knockouts on the UK circuit.

However, as the photo suggests, he IS still in, and as we roll into the 50/100 level, it appears as though we are going to have to call him 'One Level' Rumit.

Currently on 14,900, but give him time...

Just spotted Mr Harry Demetriou roaming the cardroom. He's STILL fully decked in his Martins Poker gear which was the result of a lost bet last year and although I offered to take him down to Walsall for the £20 rebuy, he says it's a televised event he needs to win to get rid of the gear. Oh, and if you're wondering how long the dare lasts...

"For ever," says a concerned Harry.

Will do m8, it was about 3 hours in yesterday, but with these blinds and clocks, we don't lose too many players so few tables are broken and there's a good chance he'll still be in his original seat.

Roberto Romanello is down to around 5k.

A lot quieter than usual, the popular Welshman called a 300 pre-flop raise from the big blind (along with three others) and then 700 bet on the Jh 6c Ad Flop.

Turn came the 5c, and, once again the initial raiser bet out, this time 1.3k. Roberto smooth called, and then yet again on the 7c River (2.1k), only to be shown Ahrt Jc.

Roberto shook his head and slowly mucked his cards.

Mark Goodwin has just doubled up an opponent, although, fortunately for the Brummie, it was only an all-in for 1,050.

The Flop read 4d 5h 6d, and Marc and there was around 900 in the pot, but Marc took a shot with Ac Qh, which, incredibly, was behind Mateyboys Pocket Deuces.

Ks Turn and 9h River was of no help.

Yes he is Jules, I'll get his count in a bit.

Meanwhile, I saw everyone rushing round one table, a big hand? No, Phil Helmuth has arrived. He's on the same table as Kirderf. Also playing today is former French International Footballer, Vikash Dharasoo. If you had the original Championship Manager 3, you'll remember he was a good buy as a DMRC (Defensive Midfielder Right/Centre)

Xuyen 'Bad Girl' Pham may well be the early chip leader after she removed all of one opponent's chips in two bites:

After she called a preflop raise with Kh 4h, a pleasing triple heart flop came down, and Seat 1 bet when she checked to him.  She wasted no time in check-raising, and was called.  The turn was a blank - she check-raised for a second time, and despite this show of strength, didn't dislodge Seat 1 from calling.  The river brought a fourth heart - not the ideal card by any means, and now she checked, and faced a 5,000 river bet.

Husband and railer Steve Vladar said that "she called before she could talk herself out of it," and was shown 7-4 in return... So, up to 22k in level One.

After the first break, she got involved with the same guy again, seeing a multiway flop with 4s 4d and hitting the ever-hoped-for set...there was a heart flush draw with it, however, and Seat 1 was still there on the turn when the flush hit.  He got his shorter stack all-in on the turn, showing Jh 9h for the made flush, but the board paired on the river and we had one very unhappy OutMatey.

Tablemate Casey Kastle added the colour to the end of this story, saying that the guy went bonkers when he busted and pushed over all the glasses on his table, banging the other tables on his stormy way out, breaking a lot of, I imagine, very pricey Monte Carlo tableware.

Had to smile earlier on. One guy had a 'friend' come up to the table and give him a quick peck for good luck. The players on the table looked like they'd just seen tikay streaking.  :D

Hmm, homosexuality isn't particularly rife in poker.

He's wearing a Pokerstars shirt, I played for about an hour with Lee in the media tournament. He was very funny and a true gent. Apparently he's got another book coming out soon called 'Kill Everyone' which is a sequel to 'Kill Phil' and not, I'm guessing, a guide on becoming a serial killer.

Devilfish News Now:

Apparently there was quite a bit of commotion earlier when Devilfish (apparently) laid down Kings to Aces - but since I have only the faintest of hearsay to go on with that one I'll talk about a hand I saw him win instead...

Playing against Philip Hilm (we think - he had different facial hair at the last event) I saw them staring at a 2h 3d Tc flop intently after Devilfish bet 1,500.  When he got called, he asked the old, "How much you got?" one, and then stared at the Ad turn before throwing in 4,000.  This is quite a chunky bet; Hilm dwelled for ages before eventually passing, and Ulliott (pictured below) showed his 7h 7d, for some reason.

Two poker titans do battle in Phil Ivey and snoopy Patrik Antonius. According to Jeff Kimber and Tim Blake, Phil called a 700 bet from Antonius on an 8h 4c 5c Flop before giving him one hell of a staredown (an Iveydown, perhaps?) on the Js Turn when the online whiz bets another 1,400.

"Even I was touching cloth," commented Tim Blake on the Iveydown.

Anyhow, Ivey called, but folded to a 4.5k bet on the Jh River, thus leaving him with around 11k.

Muppet!

John Gale -- 12,275

I know some of these names have been requested previously:

Nick Slade -- 32,450
Roy Brindley -- 7,100
Keith Hawkins -- 16,850
Jeff Williams -- 16,850
Aranud Mattern -- 17,500
Phil Hellmuth -- 7,875

Nick Slade did have a few more, but he was unfortunate on a Jd Ts 2s 7s Jc board, hitting his flush with 8s 9s but running into J-7. Luckily, his opponent made an unnecessarily big bet on the River allowing Nick to escape. "If he'd bet 4k, I would have called," he added.

No sign of a player list yet for any of the media, so all we have is our ability to recognise faces. In that sense, if you want a chip count of a relatively unfamiliar player, then please supply a photo of some sort so we can identify him.

I'll get a picture as soon as my camera has recharged. In the meantime though, I must say that Arnaud is a top man. I met him in Vegas last year and then again at the big Gutshot comp, which he then went onto win. Genuinely nice chap.

Blinds are still 50 and 100.

Whilst I was checking the board, I noticed a certain Mr Azad Pirooti in the corner of my eye. A quick glance down and I learned of his 8,400 stack.

Is he a good egg too, hartwith?

I've just spoken to Azad. His table he says, is 'very good' meaning they are very bad, he value bet a Queen on the river of a A-K-Q-9-2 board and got paid off by Eights. He's lost most of his chips having to pass A-Q, A-K type hands having missed on the flop to the table frenchmen who don't fold anything at ever. He could easily end up with a huge stack if he starts hitting flops though.

Hi there Mrs Mercier, your daughter keeps hounding me. Next time you see her, can you let her know that I already have a girlfriend.

With regards to the tourney, they started with 15,000 in chips and a 90 minute clock.

Indeed. I used to live with Levi up to a few days ago but just now moved in with Arnaud in London.... I think it's going to be a good house. Wish him luck from me (Gab) if you happen to walk past and you're not in too much of a rush! ;)

Edit: Also, if all you are looking for is a random poker related pic of Arnaud (or Nic for that matter) you might find a few @ here (http://www.teamrobusto.com). If, instead, you want a EPT one from Monaco we'll just have to rely on you ;P

Spoke to the Camel in the break - he said, "I'm on 15,050.  Ran into quads and lost the minimum."  Ad 7d on an A-7-J board... picked up a flush draw on the turn, too, but the Jack on the river slowed him down.  If it had been the Seven, I'm sure there would have been more damage...and so's he.
_________________________

Richard Redmond is OUT - never one to sit quietly, he's one of those lots-or-no-chips players.  This time he raised one from the cutoff with A-K.  The small blind called, and the big blind re-raised to 700.  He made the pot extra big here, raising to 2,500, which meant that the later bets were of a size which could consume a stack...anyway, the big blind called, and the flop came King high.  Big blind checked, and so did Squelch - not sure what was going on here, but there appeared an Ace on the turn, which kicked off the betting which went: 5k, all-in, call rather quickly.
The big blind turned out to have Aces, and Richard was drawing dead on that enticing-looking turn card.

Phil Ivey is OUT.

According to my secret source (anagram STEVE VLADRA), Ivey had T-6 and had reached the Turn with Patrik Antonius on a 3-5-6-T board (2 diamonds). Ivey moved all-in for 6.5k (about 10k already in the pot) only for Anonius to call for half his stack with a massive draw, 9d 7d.

Qd on the River and Ivey was gone.

He is currently in the press room receiving tutoring from Floppy.

[/quote]

Im sure he was in the french world cup squad last year! Last i heard about him PSG sacked him, not sure wot for....maybe playing too much late online poker and missing the team bus... ;nemesis; Used to be a quality player in real life and on champ mange.

William Thorssen has doubled up. Jim Reid bet out on a 8s 7c 5s board, Odd Erlend called, and Thorsten raised, Jim passed, Odd put William all-in and he quickly called.

Thorsten:

8c 8d

Erlend:

Ts Th

No help for Erlend, an unhungover Thorsten up to 25k.

Jim Reid passed Nines apparently and still has 21k

Smiling Jan Heitmann has 27k

Finally, here is Nick 'Ripple11' Jenkins, on about 34k. Mostly down to Ts Th vs Jc Js on a Th 6s 2s board.

Richard Redmond, who I believe wrote Grange Hill and Brookside, is now OUT after running Ace King into those darn American Airlines.

As told by his namesake Richard 'Strummer' Herbert, Redmond raised pre-flop, was raised and called. He then called a King high Flop before getting it in on an Ace Turn.

Tough one.

The bemused look on Gus Hansen's face is down to the fact that Juha Helppi is OUT. With the board reading 7s Qs Ts 2d 5c his opponent, (shown here on the left of Gus) pushed all-in on the river, covering Juha, who dwelt for absolute ages and called and was immediately shown Aspades 4s for the flopped nuts. Juha mucked his hand and briskly left the table. One of the other players wanted to see the cards and a ruling was called for, Juha's hand was shown as Qd Jd, which really shocked everyone, especially Gus, who couldn't stop saying, "Wow.."

PI Slade strikes again, using all his detective skills that he learnt as a maverick cop before he went rogue and became "PI Slade".

He limped in with Jd Td and, along with another player, called Mads Andersen's raise.

Flop:

Tc 4s 6h

Nick check-called a 1.2k bet from Mads, the other player folded.

Turn:

5d

Nick check-called a 2.5k bet this time.

River:

7s

Nick checked, Mads bet 7.5k with only 4k behind. Nick reasoned that he could only be behind to a pair of eights rivering the straight, and called, correctly when Mads showed Ace King.

Smiling Age Spets has doubled up, pushing on the turn of a Qs 3s Kh Jc board with Ad Ts and getting a call from Qc Td. Here he is raking in the chips..

Mr Helmuth, in a good mood for once.

Barcelona winner, Bjorn Erik Glenne, chip leader at the moment with about 60k.

Julian Gardner, Paul Linton and Jerome Bradpiece.

Seems to be struggling, Julian, but he remains in positive, as you'd expect. I mentioned your name, and he knew exactly who I was talking about. Said you were a good egg.

Karl Mahrenholz is struggling with just several k, as of many of the Brits playing today. He says he's lost lots of little pots rather than one big one, but he seemed pleased that none of them were at the hands of fellow Hit Squad member Praz Bansi.

This pose was a spontaneous one - normally I'd point the look of confusion to prove this, but Karl always looks confused with those hairy eye slugs.

Lederer is big in all directions, I think about 6'5, I may be wrong on Hansen, but I think he is 5'4 - 5'6. He is pocket sized.

Ali Masterman has doubled up and is now up to 22k.

Master Masterman masterfully emulated his hero Men The Master by masterfully outmastering his masterless opponent by flopping a straight with 6-7 on an 8-9-T rainbow board.

Masterman then mastered his opponent by smooth calling on the Flop and then again on the 4 Turn when his Master Mateyboy opponent moved all-in with J-rag.

Blank Turn and Masterman proved his masterful mastery by raking a nice pot, subsequently rising from his chair and roaring like He-Man from Masters of the Universe.

In simple terms, Ali flopped a monster and had some numpty betting into him. Owooga!

Managed to catch Julian Gardner during the break - he was rushing back to the tables, but he did find time to pose for his fans and inform me of his 22k chip stack.

I wouldn't put it past Jules (not sure I can call him that, but I will) to go deep in this one. He has one hell of a game.

I recall someone asking about Richard Wild - well, here is the little (gigantic in fact) tinker now.

Assuming he's not fibbing to make himself look better on blonde, he's doing well with 19k, which is around the average. He did have 28k at one point though, but missed a flush draw, with bottom pair too, only to lose to some guy who rivered a 6 with 9-6. He also ran A-Q into A-K, but he remains positive.

This high stakes player has prised himself away from the online world to grace us with his presence over here in Monte Carlo. If the Internet. goes slow, then he's probably out and back in his hotel room playing on Full Tilt. That shouldn't be just yet though, as he's trundling along okay at the moment with 34,775 in chips

Thomas 'I AM VIGGO!!!' Fourgeron, who is very popular with the French press (although less so now) is OUT.

He mucked on the River, but I think he was in a spot of bother, his opponent holding Tens on a 4-4-x-x-T board.

On questioned why he took so long to reveal his hand, the pot winner said, "Well, he could have had Fours", which raised a giggle or two.

As Simon Young said earlier, Andy Black is indeed in, but he's got slightly more than a middling stack with a very useful 41,375. Could be a potential go deeper in this comp, which would be great for us onlookers as he's top entertainment, especially when supplied with alcohol.

Word has got out to Claus of Martins Poker of our debate about Gus Hansen. Word has it that Gus Hansen will soon be informed of my accusations and perhaps make his way over to the pressroom to sort me out (although this will take him a very log time due to his short legs).

I did consider hiding underneath the table, but I feel he might spot me because I'd be at eye level.

Due to the fairly unrelenting nature of these updates (staggered dinnerbreak=no dinnerbreak) we'll be on rotation so a couple of levels out will give us a bite to eat and quick nap.  Just caught up on the last 256 pages, and Snoops has outdone himself (I swear, he photoshopped Gus like a pro) so ;applause; to him and Homer.  Enjoy your €100 sandwich, I know I did, whosever go it is now...

Your recent requests are underway as well as a ridiculous plan to measure Mr. Hansen once and for all being hatched by a Snoops/Klaus diabolical team...

You know that image you get of Devilfish off the TV as a vastly confident, if somewhat smarmy TV poker celeb? Well, it's probably not too far from the truth, and Mr Ulliott wasn't shy in expressing that side of his character in a hand with Paul Testud.

With the table encapsulated by the media, most of whom were enthralled that their countryman, Testud, was involved in a hand with the Fish, Devilfish lapped up the attention and took the opportunity to push his character even further into the cartoony image it has thus far created.

Laid back with his shades perched on the end of his nose, Dave was looking at a bet of 4k and a board of 5s 3s Jd 4s 7s. A beautiful American massuese massaging his back and shoulders, and possibly his ego, Dave sized up his opponent before making a swift call.

Testud meekly revealed his paltry Kd 9d, only for Devilfish to confidently, and perhaps slightly arrogantly show his only just superior 7d 2s.

Quiet in defeat, Testud listened on as Devilfish played up to the cameras, smugly making comments such as "Aah, trying to beat the Fish, huh?", "Let's Rock N Roll, baby," and "I don't need Aces here."

Devilfish loves it, the cameras love it, the other players probably hate it, but that's the Devilfish, and he's sure done a lot for the game in terms in raising it's profile, so it's tough to be overly critical.

For those still interested in the 'how tall is Gus Hansen' debate, I just called in for back-up and Klaus at Martins Poker says Gus is probably 1 m 82 cm, which of course means nothing to me since I am an American.  He'd put money on the fact that Gus would indeed NOT need to stand on a box to pat Tom Cruise on the head.

The truth is out Mr Snoops! Gus is not a midget--sorry, little person-- ;sark;

p.s. to my fello Yanks, I Googled 1 m 82 cm and I think it's about 5'11"

Ridiculas, clealy Hansen has been greaseing the wheels, I've seen him at WSOP last year, he is a pixie.

P.S: Devilfish is a plonker.

John Gale just lost a chunky 10k pot or so. He bet 4.5k on the turn of a 8c 7s Jh 4s board into a pot of around 6k, at this point his opponent moved in and John was forced to fold.

I wouldn't mind seeing William Thorsson (35k) and Roberto Romanello (10.5k) clashing in a bit pot - the blunt stare and sharp comments of Thorsson bashing heads with the Romanello gift of the gab... would surely be a thorougly entertaining sight.

With blinds at 100 and 200 and a board of 4s 4d 5c 2d 7c, Joe Beevers was faced with an all-in of what looked liked 7k (although it doesn't help when the 5k chips are the same colour as the felt) from his neighbour pictured nextdoor below.

Although he dwelled for a decent amount of time, including counting out his stack, Joe made the call and showed 5h 4h, which surprised one player who questioned why he took so long. "He could have Sevens, Fives," says Beevers understandably.

Anyhow, I don't need to tell you if the 4-5 was the best hand, just look at the second picture for a clue.

..... Michael Knight was right 'one man can make a difference'

My pointing out that Hansen is pixie sized has resulted in him getting a photo taken, which I might add, does not show his height relitive to anything other than a piece of paper with a random height written on it.

I'm not concvinced, I've seen the guy, he is pixie sized.

Chip Counts as they headed into the Break they're currently on (don't worry if your request doesn't appear - about a third of the room left to search when they got up and flooded towards the exit):

Joe Beevers       45,000
Mads Andersen    8,200
Nick Slade          33,500
Jonas Molander   19,250
John Gale           14,800
ElkY                   7,100
Dilba Demurbarg   14,150
Willie Tann           10,700
Isabelle Mercier     7,650
Keith Hawkins      15,150
Paul Alterman       6,850
Ram Vaswani        33,000
Surinder Sunar     13,550
Arnaud Mattern    19,000  (currently being massaged; looks relaxed)
Devilfish               43,000  (unless his DEVIL and FISH gold knuckledusters, strategically placed at the bottom of his blue 1k chips are hiding any 5k ones)
Paul Testud          1,300
Roy Brindley         38,500
Tony Bloom         15,200
Osman Mustanoglu  20,600
Des Jonas              9,400
Phil Hellmuth          15,400  (just paid off a rivered flush; only 2k, but worth a hands-in-the-air and slight table bang)
Andy Black             46,500
Iwan Jones            22,600
Torstein Iversen      9,275
Jim Kerrigan           10,125
Nick Jenkins           29,650
Richard Herbert      60,000+  (Jim Kerrigan said he's had Aces three times - more on this in a minute)
Praz Bansi              21,250
Xuyen Pham          10,000
Ian Woodley          19,200
Bruno Fitoussi       5,825
Jan Heitmann        11,500

Anders Berg update coming, no worries...

Well now I know he is taller than a piece of paper randomly affixed to a wall, But I knew he was capable of that already.

Still, he is a good sport, as well as a pixie.

He just went out this minute - champion lazy person BA Kildalen called him when I asked if he was still in the tournament - saying, "He was short stacked and saw a flop of 6-7-Q which suited his 8-0 pretty much good, bet 500, raise to 1,500, all-in (+100 chips), his opponent held 6-7 and the turn and river were 2-6."

So there you have it.

taken relative to some other things/people, the fact he is standing in front of a blank background only proves me point that him pretending

The exits continue with one-hand Rumit's [Snoopy's nickname not mine] (now one-day Rumit, perhaps)?

He had a good start, up to 34k at one point, but knocked back to under the starting stack and he picked up Kings.  He raised in mid-position, gathering three callers.  THe flop came down 2-4-8, he bet 2k, one caller clung on.  Turn 9.  He bet 5k, and called when he was raised all in for about the same again.  Resignedly looking at his opponent's 9-9, he missed his two outs and was in a hurry to get out the revolving door when I caught him in the break.  And not because revolving doors are just the most enjoyable form of exit.

Bad Girl had the best start out of the lot, today, perhaps, but is back to under 11k after another unsuccessful Kd Kh... hers raised to 800 preflop, found a re-raise to 3k, made it 8k and then when it was back to her to call the guy all in for 18k, she went for it, finding the unexpected Ac Qd against her.  The time the Ace on the flop hurts most is probably when you've got it in with Kings, and she's now in worse-than average shape.

With the crowd swarming around this table, I understandably assumed that it was Phil Hellmuth involved in a big pot, but even with cards perched in front of him, it was in fact his neighbour (left) who had his tournament life on the line, comfortably surviving a Jacks versus Tens confrontation with Seat 2.

Philip (as he is known to his buddies) incidentally, has 12,325.

John Gale is down to the felt after his Kings failed to outdraw Aces.

Board = 6c 6d 4c 2h 9c

"He's not done yet," says railer Greg Amoils. "Remember what happened in the WPT, chip and chair."

Let's all give a big hand to Snoopy for admitting he was wrong.   ;applause; ;applause; ;applause; ;applause;

And a shout out to Klaus from Martins Poker for his awesome assistance.  ;cupcake;

This picture has only solidified my stance. If you are going to have your picture taken to prove you are not pixie sized, then you have it
taken relative to some other things/people, the fact he is standing in front of a blank background only proves me point that him pretending
not to be a pixie is only smoke and mirrors.

I think Max Clifford must do the guys P.R

Why so bitter, hornswaggle?  Jump on the love train, be a believer!!!!

lol, I'm not bitter, its just so convincing, there is nothing relative in the picture, its laughable!

But I think Gus is a good humoured pixie, even though the picture posted is clealy smoke and mirrors.

Just found this which confirms it.

Mickey Wernick (30k) is now sitting on a Brit dominated table along with Praz Bansi, Jim Kerrigan, Richard Herbert and Nick Jenkins.

Just like a night at the local Grosvenor then.

Will search for a Vicky Coren picture to keep your stormy testosterone seas calm, but for now, you'll have to make do with a certain Miss Isabelle Mercier, who is currently behind schedule with 8,300.

Here's PI Dick Slade, in usual position about three feet away from his chair.  He's in good shape with over 50k.  Ash Hussain was apparently on the table next door, but I got distracted by some shouty hand-waving on the top tier and missed him that time...

Bluff Magazine Player of the Year, Chad Brown (pictured) is now chip leader with a stonking 121k having just busted two players, one being Gus Hansen, the other being the Mr Celine Dion guy.

I didn't catch the preflop action, all I saw was the chips in the middle with the board reading  7c Th Kc

Hansen:

Td 7h

Mr Dion:

Ad Kh

The Chad:

9c 6c

Turn:

8c

River:

6d

Phil Helmuth has doubled up, he had 8-8 on a A-4-A-8-3 board yet still managed a decent dwell on the river when he was put all-in.

William Chen (clearly enjoying his poker) -- golly, I've forgotten to write down his chip count... oops, I must have been distracted.

more pics of this girl plz

What he said!

While I hestitate to pander to your insistence on 'norkage' (a word I only learned two years ago) I am supportive of Vicky, who has 21,750 in chips currently - so here's a pic of her.  Plus, unusually, there are two other female players on her table (any names?) and I got an awesome gender-role-reversal picture of their male railers coming up to the table at the same time.

Andy Black raises pre-flop to 725 in early position only to fold to Iwan Jones' 2,125 re-raise... pretty sharpish too.

I caught sight of Andy's hand (he had Kd Qd - keep that hus hush), which was amusing as Iwan confessed to having the same hand, although his were the other red suit.

Going off on a tangent slightly (we never do that here at blonde, ahem  ::)), does anyone have any idea what Andy's card protector is?...

Just spotted this request, but, coincidentally, I did take a quick gander at Glenne's chip count, and although it's still well above the 21,666 average, his 39,900 stack is still well below the 65k he had earlier on.

Meanwhile, he has joined a table taken up by Jerome Bradpiece (7,825) and Joey Ladylove (14,500), two of the UK's up and coming young guns.

Also, some Ash Hussain news now, which also encapsulates the highly feared Bengt Sonnert.

Board = Jd 5d Kh Th 8h and Ash has bet 6k, which is most of his stack.

Bengt rises from his seat (as all the stars seem to do), puts his hands on the back of his head and suggests trips as a possibility before making a reluctant call. Ash, clearly chuffed to bits, proudly reveals his Qh 9h whilst Bengt quickly mucks, mumbling something Aces and mentioning, "Rivered," to which Ash responds by highlighting that he hit the straight on the Turn.

"Make sure you put that one up, snoop," requests Ash.

"I prefer just to put the ones you play badly on though, it's more fun," I reply.

I've been generous this time though...

EPT Dortmund winner Andreas Hoivold went OUT late last night, apparently on the penultimate hand of the night. My source for this is highly trusted so I have do reason to doubt his authenticity, plus his initials may be A and H.

Forgot to mention that Vanessa Rousso went out earlier, according to another updater, she was spotted telling someone that she wasn't going to tell them her bad beat story...

BREAKING NEWS

According to Dusk Till Dawner and former Eastender, the latter being more crucial in this particular post, everyone on the Albert Square cast wanted that duff duff duff at the end, and prayed for the explosive ending However, and he said this rather bitterly, Tiffany, Grant Mitchell and then Kat Slater (he really didn't seem too keen on her) seemed to hog all the duff duff limelight.

"I got it a few times," added Beppe, "but not particularly often."

Meanwhile, neighbour Mel Judah just won a small pot, taking the hand away from one of many ElkY lookalikes (they seem to be running rampant these days) by betting a Th-6c-6h-2s board from the button after smooth calling the flop.

Whilst Judah is still having trouble with just 13,925, Beppe is fairing slightly better with his 16 stack, adding that it's the first time he's been over the starting stack.

"This is the way it normally goes with me, start off slow and end with a bang," which is how we got into Eastenders, me comparing his progress in comps to an episode of the show. I even got him to perform the duff duff (of his own free will might I add), which I was immensely proud of.

For those of you who haven't seen Hellmuth in the flesh, then I'd seriously recommend it if you ever get the chance, if only to witness the full Helmmuth persona that he carries with him. Big and foreboding, Phil shadows his table and truly towers above his opponents, as is clearly evident in the picture below. Like a caped crusader, the Poker Brat leans across the felt as if he owns it and possesses a real presence that he uses to intimidate his opponents. When Phil's at the table, you know about it, even if he doesn't say a word, which can occur in longer spells that you might initially assume.

She has 20k, and has described her table as 'crazy' and 'sick', I think she's referring mostly to uber-maniac Dane Frederik Holstrup, who I can vouch for, plays like a madman.

Fredrik has been getting involved with US player Casey Kastle in some pretty dramatic pots recently.  Both pictured here (Casey on Bad Girl's left, Fredrik in the DUFFER hoodie), the first one went to Kastle - Fredrik apparently bet all the way (flop, turn and chunky river) until the board was 5-5-Q-7-4.  I would hazard a guess that the fives arrived on the turn and river...anyway, Kastle eventually called with 9-7 and his pair was good against the crazy Dane's A-K.  Julian was standing nearby and related this hand, and was so surprised by the American's calls that he would have fallen off his chair, if he'd been sitting on one.  "I thought he was super tight," he mused...

Then a couple of hands later, and Bad Girl limped on the small blind, Casey raised from the big blind, and Hostrup called.  The flop came Aspades 7s 6s (OK I made the rank of the ones that aren't spades up, but that's strictly irrelevant).  Casey must have bet, but the raise was an insta-all-in from Fredrik - 25k+.  A full dwell (nearing the five minute point) before Casey passed (Bad Girl said an Ace) and Fredrik Hostrup showed:  Kh 2s.

Sverre has just over 5k having just doubled up, he pushed with 5-6 suited and Mel Judah called with A-J but the Norwegian flopped a six.

Yes, they're still tablemates, facing each other from the opposite ends of the table... got there just in time to see a very odd hand give Jim Kerrigan a bit of a present:

Jim raised preflop and must have been re-raised from the big blind (that's the only way I imagine there was around 10k in there by the time the flop strangeness happened).  So, heads up they see Tc 2c 5s.  Big blind checks, Jim bets 3,500 and the big blind min-check-raises (Jerome standing behind me on the rail - out, details forthcoming - said, "I hate that.")  Jim wasn't loving it either, clearly, and slowly counted out his remaining 9,5k or so before deliberately pushing them over the betting line in a resigned sort of way.  There was a remarkably quick call, considering what was about to be shown down:
Jim showed:  Jc Jh
Big Blind showed:  Ac Jd
Turn and river:  2d Js
And a double up which made Praz almost lose the plot, "There's Jim thinking he's against a set and the guy shows A-J.  I've been grinding all day - it's hard work, and this happens to him."  Pause.  "Well done, Jim," said in a tone so flat you could measure door frames with it.

Jim Kerrigan     34k
Praz Bansi        20k

Jerome Bradpiece was moping (moderately) around Praz' table just now. "Boo!," he said, eloquently, "I lost a race."  He'd been short for a while and in one of those spots where aggressive people were always making the raises in front of him, doing things like passing Deuces to a raise on the button which would have given him a house, a double up and a playable stack.  Frustrating, perhaps...anyway he found Sevens and the button raised, as they so often do, with a caller from a big stack.  Jerome went for it - and he got the first guy racing him with A-Q.   It hit (or this story would have started with Jerome saying, "Yeah!") and he's in that recently-eliminated down zone before he realises he's in Monte Carlo and can just go to the beach.

I was saving this picture for when I could get to Hellmuth's table to get him in this exact pose and post them together, but now will have to do:

Well, you're close, he's off on break (we're rotating right now)

But here's your guy, looking relaxed despite the 11,300 stack.

Your requests are not ignored; the distance of the room end to end grows in proportion to the time we've been running round it, and due to the large number of posts sometimes a request gets buried in the haystack of poker related queries and stories.  Such is the nature of interactive update threads.

Snoopy may be ignoring you for personal reasons, however.

Adam Junglen...

It's funny you should mention his name, because he's just been involved, in probably the most fascinating pot I'm likely to see in this tournament, trust me...

Patrick Antonius makes it 1k from the button. Adam makes it 3.2k from the small blind and Antonius makes it 9k. Adam calls.

Flop:

Qc 2s 4c

Adam checks, Patrick moves in for 34.5k. The break has just happened, but a crowd is developing around the table as only the two players remain seated. Adam keeps staring intently at Patrick, checking his chips, it'll cost most of his stack to call. Patrick sits impassively. Finally, eyes still focused on Patrick, Adam pushes the 34.5k into the pot, and Patrick visibly loses the colour out of his face as he flips over 3c 5s. Adam turns over first the Ac, then....the Jh! Everyone including Patrick manages a double take. I hear people shocked, yet still somehow impressed at the call.

Turn:

8s

River:

Aspades

A 90k pot goes to Vegas based Scandie, there's not even a collective groan or sigh from the audience, people are still transfixed at the action.

Adam briefly, yet without a shred of regret in his voice explains, "His range for 3-betting preflop is so wide...When I called the 6k extra I was trapping." He seems remarkably composed for someone who has just lost such a big pot, "I don't care, I've played 10k comps before, his move in was a scared bet, I'd have probably called with King high."

And although that may sound arrogant to people, I could completely believe him.

That has to be the sickest hand I have ever read what a call and what a river.  My boy Chris Odle is still alive just an f.y.i and I finally know what he is wearing.  A green hoodie with diamonds and boombox's on it and a brown and beige checkered hat.  If you can find him tell him we are all rooting for him and to keep up the good work.  Love the coverage this is my new favorite site for updates on live tourneys, at least in Europe.

Cheers, and thanks for signing up. You might be interested to know that Jen and Snoopy will be covering the WPT at the Bellagio at the end of April, so might need some help with the photos. ;)

The hand turned out to be Adam's swansong, he pushed with 7-8 and got called by A-T, an Ace on the flop and no help thereafter.

Here is Shaniac (Shane Schleger), who if memory serves me correctly, is a regular on the 2+2 forums, he has Isabelle Mercier and Keith 'The Camel' Hawkins to his immediate left and has 29,350.

Ray is proving hard to find, but please bear with us.

Blue Square Bolton GUKPT winner, Praz Bansi, is OUT.

My head's a bit mangled and overloaded with poker, so I apologise if this is slightly off, but the gist is that Praz got his chips in with 9-6 on a K-9-4-x (2 spades) board was beaten by Ace high which I believe hit a flush on the River.

If yes, I haven't spotted him today, which would suggest that he's already out.

However, I'll keep an eye out just in case.

Julian Gardner (50k) and Jeff Rogers (44,650) have been rather overlooked in the general craziness of this start day - not to say that they haven't been involved in some big pots, perhaps even dramatic ones, but they're both looking like finishing the day with comfortable stacks and minimal fuss.  The cameras might be round Hellmuth getting a massage, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Julian (pictured) going to day 25 or whatever counts as 'deep' here.

Last minute double up for John Gale -

An early-mid raiser to something like 1,500 found one caller and a button push for 6,575 from the bracelet-winning, easy-going player.  Desperate?  It's not his style, it looks like, to lose the will to survive short just because they've announced Last Five Hands (which they have) - he was probably happy that the early raiser re-raised to isolate him with his Jh Js, as John had Qd Qh.
The board came:  Ks 7c 9h Kd Qs  which was overkill, but he looked happy to have doubled through to around what he started the day with, over 12 hours ago...

Sorry, they've sent us all packing as they wrap up the day's play.  Usually there's one announcement per hour along the lines of, "Will everyone milling around between the tournament tables please leave the area?"  which we get to ignore and carry on writing our little notes.  This time they meant business.  "And the press," came over the loudspeaker as I continued to stroll around the pleasingly spacious walkways pretty much on my own.

What I'm trying to say is, you'll probably have to wait until they get the final counts to us, which is more like tomorrow than tonight.

A reminder of what most of Team Dusk Till Dawn looked like this morning, a century ago - in the bright light of day...and a quick Richard Ashby count from the last 15 minutes - 18,000...

any more news on Richard "strummer" Herbert please.

great reports as always thank you

Got it just before Big Thomas Kremser dragged me kicking and screaming from the floor, my fingernails leaving marks in the expensive floor. He has roughly 47k, nicely above average.

Thank you, Thank you, Good Luck Strummer

(3) Michaela Johansson -- 13,025
(4) Frederik Ostervold -- 11,000

Straight from the horse's mouth (I am by no means calling him a horse), Danish player and Warsaw EPT finalist Frederik Holstrup Pedersen has also climbed into the top ten with around 70k.

Roberto Romanello bit the dust right at the death, moving his shortstack in with Jack-rag, but running in to Ace King.

He was, in the words of Jeff 'Jaffacake" Kimber "utterly devestated".

All the players that we identified near the end, such as Chris Odle and Shaniac, will be followed more closely in Day 2.

According to Mad, our media representative from PokerStars, player listing will be available tomorrow  ;pokergods;, which should make tracking players a lot easy.

However, if you get in your requests for names to follow early doors (on tomorrow's thread rather than this one), then that would awesome.

The official chip counts should be with us early morning (probably around 6am), so we'll upload those counts prior to the commencement of the Day 2 live coverage.

Ok, it's passing out time, (Djinn is collapsing next to me as I type). We're off to regain our strength returning for level 8 with blinds 300/600/75, the early hours of Day 2 of EPT's have traditionally been scenes of bloody carnage, but with the extra 5k on the starting stack, plus 90 minute blinds, I think it'll be around level 11 when the blinds go 800/1600/200 which will be the tipping point. (i.e when we get people knocked out at literally one every minute).

Time for bed, we'll be back to restart at 2pm (1pm GMT).

Thank you very much Mrs Gobbomom (I still can't believe I'm calling someone that, lol), your support has been much appreciated.

Finally, word on the grapevine is that Day 2 will come with a player list, which will mean we will be able to identify any names that you American readers wish to throw our way.

Remember, this is an interactive thread, so feel free to interrupt us with requests for players, whatever nationality, and we'll do out very best.
