Morning Tikay. Is the start time usual over there as it does seem a bit wierd to the brits. Looking forward to keeping up with the updates whilst writing and sending emails this morning.

I am the sole occupant of the Press Room, Jen is still zzzz-ing, & I guess so are all the other Updaters - Rolf Slotboom, Brad Wilias, Rolf Woods, & Uncle Tom Cobbley.

But I can hear thr soothing chinkle chinkle of riffled chips, so I think thry may have started.

I came down from the Hotel with Dave, he's in good heart, & 1 of only 4 Brits left in.

OK, I'm up that winding conjoined staircase (as Jen described it) to see what's happening.

By the way, is there anybody there? (Watching this?). 9am, FFS!

good morning sir

when was the last time you saw 9am?

original scheduling by the organisers!

lord knows what the players think

The whole of the playing blonde world may be asleep, but just to let you know someone's here!

Good luck to DC

What are the blinds when they start out today? How much play has he got?

Morning Tighty, Davey.

Answers to yoor questions in a mo.

Last time I saw 9am? Loads of times - BEFORE I get to bed usually!

I think the Blinds are 1k-2k, I'll check right now, but Dave has plenty of time IMO.

All the best to El Blondie..........

Another question - whats the players feelings about the structure for this event?

Post by: tikay on October 05, 2005, 09:27:28 AM
The Chips are all laid out on the tables, but there is not a player to be seen, I guess they have gone off to breakfast. So in fact it looks like the start time is 11 Local, NOT 10..... Sorry!

Brilliant....

Cue the expert pundits like they have in the build up to sky live football etc. Or maybe describe the twoo doves strutting on a nearby balcony ala test match special.

Whether the players are ready or not I'm with you all the way today tikay.

Mr Colclough's chips, awaiting their owner..... Count them, go on! (Should be 27,450).

I'll answer that in a mo tighty, but let me just finish scene setting. By the way, "Bag of Chips Sir?" is Martin Pollak, Table 1, Seat 2. Table 1, Seat 1 is his blondeness.......

Wow that place looks impressive ... it always amazes me when some venues pull out all the stops to make an event special, and make the players feel as though they are a part of something... then you have the others that look like they forgot the event was happening at all and everything is chaotic and seems like they cant be arsed to make an effort ...after all those poker players dont care where they play or what conditions they play under ..and shoved somewhere in the corner.

Very best of luck to dave colclough and Julian (although Julian has probably swapped a percentage with any eventual winner ;) )

Tony tell Julian & Dave to stay away from each other we want them both in the final

Title: Re: EPT in Baden, LIVE UPDATE, Day Two
Post by: tikay on October 05, 2005, 10:28:34 AM

Action already.

No action until Thewy in the SB, he goes for it with 2-2, but the BB has something - two overs maybe? - & Thewy is down to the felt, he has 2k.

Blinds are 800-1,600, with a running ante of 150.

Title: Re: EPT in Baden, LIVE UPDATE, Day Two
Post by: tikay on October 05, 2005, 10:33:31 AM
Thewy swapped 5% with Dave Colclough, so the latter is nailed on to win this.

This place? It's AWESOMELY beautiful, WHAT a venue. And nothing, NOTHING, is too much trouble. They even have girls (black skirts, red skin tight tops) whose sole job is to carry the players chips when there is a table move.

Jen has arrived, we've just grabbed a freebie brekkie - an omelette cooked "to order" with whatever ingredients you wish. Plain for me, all sorts of dreadful stuff in Jens, onions & that.

Jen is now doing her "player identification" job, where she makes notes on what players look like & ties them up with names on the list. For me, I guess she'd say "blonde, stunningly handsome, mid-thirties, & amazingly hunky".

Title: Re: EPT in Baden, LIVE UPDATE, Day Two
Post by: TightEnd on October 05, 2005, 10:36:31 AM
you see the thing is oldblonde, I spoke to Dena the Hunky dealer the other night who said "He called me hunky! How could he do that?" She was only partially persuaded of your charms on hearing that you also called her "a goddess"

If she's hunky, and you think you are hunky, what does that imply?

Why on EARTH did so many players bust out yesterday? We are on Level 10 now, & the blinds are still only 800-1,600. It's a complete mystery to me, the structure & clock is (are?) excellent.

Robert - you think my guess a tad optimistic?

Tighty? Dena is only partially persuaded of my charms? Well that's a start.

Terrible news - El Blondie had a Blinds Battle - K-6 - against Mr BB A-4. No idea how so many chips got in the middle, but Dave Colclough is OUT.

Morning all - I have been quickly identifying the players I don't know by hat colour, so that when they all start with the musical chairs I'll be able to keep you informed.

So for Yo-Yo news - bit of a comeback - Alexander Stevic has tried to knock him out not once but twice, and doubled him up both times instead.

Try 1: Very short-stacked Julian all in with  qs 8c, he called on the big blind with  7d 9d, as he ought - no help - double up 1.

Try 2: Julian has another go with  kh 5d and Alexander's  asp qs is no good when the King and Queen flop together.  So still short, but has a shot, as ever in these things.

Early exits from the final 36 are Rob Hollink, Morten Erlandsen, Stefan Jonasson and Markus Freiberg as well as Dave.

The blinds are now 1,000 - 2,000 with a 200 ante.  Funny thing - when they have their one-minute warning it plays ten seconds of The Entertainer.  Great.

Hey there, excellent updates, as usual!
Could you please keep us posted on the last Dutchman still in, Abel Meijberg?
He's the big fella sitting on Table 4, Seat 1...
Squeezed in between those horrible Scandinavians he must have a tough time.

Thanks!

Oo er hunky Robert - I will get to the payouts after I tell you that Julian has doubled up AGAIN and is now on just under 30k after he cracked QQ with KJ.  Ben Grundy standing behind him filled me in on this hand, as I just assumed I could turn my back for a minute...

Alexander Stevic is OUT - having moved all-in with  jh qc only to find Dustin Dorrance-Bowman with  ks kd.

The levels appear to be 75 minutes long now - the structure does have its strong points.  Unfortunately (or fortunately) the fearless nature of the play today means we might have quite a short day's work ahead of us (they're playing to 8).

This helps to explain why the field is falling so fast. (Down to 27 now, so they are all in the money). It's AK v 55, & ALL the money - PLENTY - goes in pre-flop.

What was the AK v 55 pot worth? Dunno, but you can see the chips in the pic. (Good pic, see?). The blues are 5k, yellows 1k, multi colour brown 500. So, i dunno, maybe an 80k pot - blinds are 1k-2k..........

HinPeter/Thorma, yes, I know  who you are NOW. But i'd advise against using the name "Thorma" in England, we have some very hungry, & unfussy, blokes in England.

Now, here's the man they call Yo-Yo, & this morning he's once again demonstrated why. "Any 2 cards will do Thew"......

So we're down to 26 now, with American Jonathan Hancock the first money finisher.  He's out, by the way, racing his AQ against 99 which hit a set to take him out.

Dave McGeachie is hanging on - just saw him quadruple up his tiny stack having moved in blind with (as it turns out)  jc 7h and hitting the lone seven to beat all three opponents.

Also making a stand with little stacks and doubling through were Erich Kollmann and Kurt Muller.

morning all. Thomas Bihl on Julians table is blondite/betfair player buzzer. He cashed in new orleans and has had a couple of near misses this year (as well as winning the 200k 1st prize in the biggie on laddies just before the ws). Hows julian getting on now?

An Announcer now moves between the remaining three tables (oh, there's just so much glorious space here) and tells you whenever someone's all-in, which is handy.  Then you have to run down this kind of grand marble staircase between these extraordinary chandeliers (pic coming) to type in the action.  Slightly inconvenient, but very glamorous.

Thanks jezza, later.

Going back to that last pic of Thewy, the big geezer stood behind Thewy (to his right as we LOOK) is someone me & Thewy refer to as Bentnose. He accused Thewy of a mega-moody in Amsterdam, but it turns out that Bentnose is the World Moody Champion, he's got ALL the moves.

I know EXACTLY who Shaun (surely it's Sean?) Ryder is, how many drugs he does (copious amounts) & have the video shot on the hotel roof, when the other geezer has  those weird flip up sunglasses. GREAT track.

Now, Thewy has 40k, his latest double up coming with KQ v AJ, the river bringing the all-important K.

And talking of double-ups, blondeite Double Up is still in, pic in a mo if I can find him......

Joining the OUT collective (and picking up €4,104) are Daniel Larsson, Frode Fagerli and Stefan Rapp.

For those Danish fans out there - your man Christian Grundtvig was just involved in a very exciting coup.  He held the  ad ac and got it all-in re-raising Peter Muhlbeck, who was pretty much obliged to call with his  kc ts.

The flop came K 5 5, so only a bit exciting

The turn was another K (chorus of oooohs)

The river an Ace for the bigger full house.

10 minute break as they finally race off the green 25 chips.

Julian has around 34,000 as they sit back down, with 23 players left.
Edgar Skjevold  156,000
Kjersti Grini         8,200
Abel Meijberg     168,000 (the lucky Dutchman just won a big pot with 33 vs 99)

The Casino Baden is just magnificent, all marble & gold & circular grand staircases & stuff, beautiful. They have a chandelier - no, two, there is a matching pair - of Chandeliers that are THREE FLOORS deep, they "drop down" a stairwell. I have tried to convey the scale of it here. That's Rolf Slotboom trotting down the stairs, & if you have really good eyes, our Jen stood at the bottom, looking up at me. As all women should.

Having made the bravest of comeback efforts, he's eliminated in 19th for €4,104.

Moving in on a  9s qh 8s flop with  9h th, he had the misfortune of finding his opponent on  ks kd!  No help, and they're breaking another table (you're very right, Thorma, everybody's moving around - when they're settled I'll put pics up).

Norseman v Norseman News Now -

Poor old Edgar Skjervold just handed over a stack to Torstein Iverson (AA vs KK) and then got involved with Patrik Antonius for all his (Patrik's) chips.

The board was:  qd 8d 7h 4d, and he bet 20k, and faced an all-in for over 40k more.  After a big dwell, he called, showing  qc ts, and was right - Patrik was on a draw with  ad 5s.

The  kd fell on the river, though, and Patrik Antonius has around 150,000 while Edgar's in trouble.

If you are talking about Lady Fanny Octavia Louisa Spencer-Churchill, nee Osler (not Olser)

She lived from 1853-1925, dying in Baden

related to the Dukes of Marlborough by marriage

Gewidmet is German for devoted

so let's hypothesise that one of the Duke's family had a statue made about his Mrs, who loved him a lot, and there she is now. a Blondeite. And a rather fetching one at that

P.S Anyone else googling for Fanny, be careful if you are at work  :o

Paul Testud OUT in 15th - his late position all-in with  kc qs was called by the small blind Peter Muhlbeck's  ad qc.  15th place prize was €6,840

Doubleup doubles up with pocket Jacks which held up against Dustin D-B's K10 so their positions are reversed: breathing space for Dave while Dustin one of the short stacks.

More trivia for you. Here's an overview of the rather nice Honours Board they have here, ("framed" between the two flags),  it's hewn from solid granite. Close up to follow, as there are one or two interesting names upon it.

Not sure if you can see the detail or text on the Honours Board, but it's the big 7 Card Stud Championship they have held here for many years. The 1999 winner is listed as Paul Alterman - you may have heard of him, his wife is the player in the family,  but Paul can play a bit, too, and the 2000 winner is "Philip Hellmuth", who'd be unbeatable if there was no luck in poker. it amazes me that a truly brilliant player - as he is - cannot come to terms with outdraws after playing for so long.

Martin Pollak OUT in 10th, winning €8,208 after a very lengthy cagey period of short-stack doubleups and re-raised folding.  Just when I was coming down for tea, small blind Abel Meijberg made a raise to commit big blind Martin, and after a lengthy think he went for it.

Abel showed  th 8c, Martin  ks qc.

The board came out (slowly)  5h 7s jh tc js and Mr. Pollak was out of the tournament.  They're just rearranging the final nine on their final table, on which they will stay until the 9th place goes out, at which time it's Day Over for us, and TV time tomorrow.

The "Matey Boy" Tighty refers to, is someone I just know as "Henry". WHAT a character he is, a wonderful experience to share a table with him. He's a great chip-getter & chip distributor. Anyone know what the prefix before his name (on the Honours Board) stands for? He always strikes me as  being a Diplomat or summat. Deffo not a butcher.

Yes, players are trickling in for the 7-stud event which they praise highly.  Sverre Sundbo says he would have liked to give it a go, but travel arrangements got in the way etc etc.  Incidentally, Sverre's favourite game is 7-stud hi-lo.  So there you go.  Pity there's not a huge range of places and events to play it in, eh.

But the Seven-studders are descending on the casino; the central area is Closed between 5 and 7pm (I rather think this is where the final of the EPT is right now - that's going to be interesting) and Henry Nowakowski (who won it in '97) was asking if we were updating it... I think we may be having a little rest.  But if anything really interesting happens, I am sure it will sneak on.

Henry Nowakowski is a property magnate from Germany

Co-incidentally, a Henry Nowakowski was once US Ambassador to the UK, I seem to remember

Morten Jensen OUT in 9th place, receiving €13,680 and bringing today's action to a close.

His final hand was the  8h 8c, which he moved in with, finding Abel Meijberg all-in over the top with  ad kh.  The King came on the flop, and there was no recovery for the Danish player.  Everyone else is coming back tomorrow to play for the cameras.

A sign of the times?

The Final 8 includes 3 Norwayers, a Finn, 2 Swedes, a Dane, and a Dutchman. Extraordinary!

We should never forget that my good friend Abel 'lucky fish with perfect face for radio' Mayberg was all-in on day one with AQ vs QQ and rivered a straight, and now he's chip leader going into the final 8.
Go figure...

That's how it will look tomorrow when they come back - thanks to Rolf yet again for tracking down the chip count so speedily (no hour for photocopies today).

We are doing 'something fun' for tonight, which I have a sneaking suspicion may involve actually playing cards... will let you know how that goes.

and Gunnar Ostebrod is known as "Stevie" or "El Capitao" on same highlimit tables, Edgar Skjervold is Ragde on pokerstars who won the WCOOP main 2004. Torstein won the european champ. at the vic two years ago. then again, only fishes go far in that one :D

Torstein and Edgar are also a part of the new norwegian team "Norsemen" who have gathered two players on final table in addition to another one in the money. Out of five starters (myself included) this seems just within expectations :D
