Title: Re: WPT $25,000 Final: Day 1B - Interactive Post by: snoopy1239 on April 22, 2007, 07:48:41 PM Whilst the $25,000 WPT final is being staged this week at the Bellagio, what many of you might not be aware of is the rise in popularity of a masterful game called Keno. Although the average age of the players is 84 and the game is simply a variation of bingo, Keno has become a huge attraction for those in the buffet, especially four members of the media who spotted a keno pad at their table and a screen generating random numbers on the wall.
With four us punting a huge $5 sum into the pot, all four of us adrenalin pumped Keno junkies selected 20 numbers from the 78 available. When we had all completed our sheets, we waited with baited breath for the screen to change, peering at the board intently as if we were awaiting a platform announcement at the train station. Two thrilling games later (their were two consecutive ties) we had our final, and one which involved my good self and French reporter Benjo. This was not only my first heads up match, but my first final table period (one of many, I hope), and I was up against a wily veteran who had played the game at least once before. However, with the wind in my face, I forced my way up stream to become the World Keno Tour (WKT) Grand Final Champion for 2007, taking the $20 prizepool down with 6 numbers to four, a near landslide victory. Mike Sexton went mad, saying that I was the youngest ever WKT champion, by a good 50 years. Here's a picture of me shaking hands with a worthy runner-up in Benjo, the winning hand in my er... hand. Although he's grinning like a Cheshire Cat, it's actually a crocodile smile, a petualant Benjo losing grace in defeat by suggesting, "You lied about your handicap!" With this win on my back, I fully intend to be playing the $50,000 K.E.N.O event at this years World Series of Keno. Fingers crossed I add that title to my now long list of (one) accolades. What r u implying??.......... that a small dog may have taken Jen out very late in the great Las vegas The small dog, he has but one pair of shoes, and we all know what those are...not exactly compliant for the nightlife... but as he so eloquently recounted, we did play some fourway Keno. I look forward to seeing Snoopy appearing at the Celebrity Keno Invitational in early May, held in Atlantic City. There is always the crazy cash action, and, as Benjo says, "The strategies for cash and tournament Keno are subtly different. You get the young guns, recently retired, with their aggressive play by 'feel' and the analytic style of the older and more experienced live players." Gene Tyler (we hear, it's a matter of evesdropping until the player list materialises around Level Three). Matey with 6h 6d caught a nice flop: Tc Ts 6c, a nicer turn: 6c but the river was his cake-icing - the Jh. This is what persuaded the First Eliminated to push his whole stack, as he held Jd Jc and rivered that over-house. I think he's in shock, judging by the erratic walk out the door...

I warn you, they may all be between 48 and 52k, with the occasional exception such as Praz or quads-vs-house Guy. Interesting - the announcer just said, "There's one minute left of the break, and also one minute left to buy in to this event." So you can buy in up until the first break on the second start day - I wonder if the EPT would do this if they had unlimited space...

"You come to the table today, not Devilfish, littlefish." They clash in one pot while I'm up on stage - Dave says, "Littlefish checks," on a 8s Ks 9h flop. "Little Vinni bet!" says Vinh, throwing in 1,500, which Dave raises by a further 2,100 with only brief hesitation.
He gets a call and they see the 4d turn. Devilfish checks, Vinni bets 5,500. Call. River: 5d And it looked like a lightning speed check-Vinnyallin-pass here, which Devilfish was clearly not happy about - to be honest he's usually the one in the inane but entertaining (if you don't have to sit there the whole time) chat driving seat. "I put you on a big hand," adds Vinni, helpfully, before doing some kind of mini-shadowbox leading me to believe he might be a few crackers short of a barrel. No, he's still on 106,325 exactly, and looking fairly relaxed. "My ipod's not working," he continues, "You missed me bluff off a lot. And then win a pot." Not life-threatening, then, and anyway, he looks to be enjoying himself immensely. Plus, "I'm Daniel's doctor," he adds, pointing at Negreanu (also pictured). "He can't beat me in a pot." Praz gives a brief, wide, wicked grin and continues to play, pausing only to commiserate with Karl across the pond.

Title: Re: WPT $25,000 Final: Day 1B - Interactive Post by: Djinn on April 23, 2007, 12:52:10 AM Hey guys! Updates are as great as ever! Can you give us Dutchies some updates on Abel Meijberg (EPT Baden FTist), Steve Wong (WSOP side event FT and well known WPT player) and Sander Foppele (Dutch soap-actor, can you confirm this, he was seated next to Todd Brunson). I have no idea what the table seatings are. :dontask: Keep up the good work! Many thanks - here's Abel Meijberg from Room Two. He has 31,325 and what looks like the world's least exciting chocolate bar in front of him. Some kind of Special K thing in the most boring packaging imaginable. Someone get him a Mars Bar or some Reese's Peanut Butter Cups or something fun, for goodness' sake. I noticed his stack because of his card protector, a little tortoise (pictured below) which came into view when he moved his arm (exciting action shots of this also below). He was eager to remove any false suppositions of mine that he might be some kind of professional gambler, handing me a business card and saying, "I am a biologist first, poker player as a hobby!" Unusual to see this combination of interests, however, saving and studying of species and playing poker for huge buy-ins.
Title: Re: WPT $25,000 Final: Day 1B - Interactive Post by: snoopy1239 on April 23, 2007, 01:03:10 AM There was a brief debate on the table of doom (currently holding Hansen, Haversen, Brunson, Watkinson & Toto L), after Doyle had bet 700 only for the bet to be ruled as 200 because his 500 chip dropped before the line.
Erick Lingren's call, was them deemed a re-raise and, after the ruling was confirmed by the tournament director, Doyle opted to pass, although he did briefly ask, "Can I re-raise?" "It's pretty obvious what he was doing," commented the Great Dane. Title: Re: WPT $25,000 Final: Day 1B - Interactive Post by: Djinn on April 23, 2007, 01:05:39 AM Thanks for the updates! "We play the people here, not the cards."
And the reason for the ants in pants moment? Well, with the board reading 2h 5d Ts 8s, Bryan Sumner had bet 15k only for Matusow to ask that oft dreaded question, "How much do you have left". On answering around 20k, Mike quickly replied, "Okay, I'm all-in" to which Sumner instantly folded. Mike showed the 7h, and then, after a moment, the 5h, which was the calm before the storm in the Matusow celebatory speech. Title: Re: WPT $25,000 Final: Day 1B - Interactive Post by: Djinn on April 23, 2007, 04:11:11 AM Double up for Joe Beevers:
Saw the Hendon Mobster involved in a pot on the turn, with the board 3h Qc Kh Ac (I think in that order). There was then an immensely long, tense period of dwelling, during which Joe and the player opposite him chip riffled and stared like their lives depended on it. I thought they were heads up and this was on of those two-cats-swishing-tails-on-a-fence situations, but then to my surprise a player in the middle whose cards I hadn't noticed passed to the 4k bet, which was called out of position by John Racener (Hoody winner, I think, unless a new player snuck in early). The river came the Tc - Joe looked pretty short after the betting up until this point, and his opponent bet out 16k which effectively suggested he pass or go all in. It was the latter, and his Aspades Ks were good, the Ahrt being shown for what was in all probability a dangerous pair+nutdraw combination which missed the river.
