Title: Cash game catastrophe, damn it!
Post by: Chriswan on June 15, 2007, 12:56:11 PM
sat at this 0.50/$1 table with $100 (most of my roll, WHOOPS) played a little and was nice and comfy. Pick up KK in the big blind small blind raises to $4 i re-raise to $12 he then re-raises to $28 and i push all in

 Kh Ks    vs   Ad Ks

flop  Ad  4s  9d  4c  Aspades

There goes my roll....

what should i have done here?

Not put the whole of your roll down on the table.

good point... i think i maybe should have called the $24 and then when (if) ace hits fold if not then push.. still KK is ahead preflop against AK so technically it wasnt complete bs apart from the fact im skint now and it my borthday and that shouldnt happen on someones birthday :(

oj maybe next time....

you have to get your money in with KK, esp in cash games.  these things happen tho and your only mistake is sitting down with all your BR.

I agree.  With KK you are happy to get your whole stack in pre-flop - as you're more than likely favourite.  However, you're not guaranteed to win, so you have to be prepared to lose your entire stack - that's the luck element, but over time the luck will balance out and you'll win long-term.  You can't do that if your entire bankroll is at the table though.

You played the hand correctly, but it was a hand you shouldn't have been playing to start with.

Yep, at the $0.50/$1 level it is hardly ever wrong to get it all-in pre-flop with KK. Just the possibility that AK is in his range here (as it often is at this level) means stacking off is correct once the second raise goes in.

And you already know that sitting down with all your bankroll was wrong - that was the mistake.

obviously player dependant but how deep stacked would you have to be to lay down kk preflop to an all in?

for this question assume youre oppo is tag

I don't think you have to be that deepstacked.

I certainly wouldn't want to get 100BB (normal stack) in with KK preflop in certain situations.

It's not too difficult if you know your foe well - I've laid KK preflop a couple of times after the third rerereraise from regular oppos.

As for the OP, playing with your whole roll is only going to finish up one way.

are you saying the decision is more player dependant?

For me, yes. If I know them well,  and I know that they know me well, and they know how I play, and they know I would only rereraise with etc etc. and they still keep coming then I would consider it. Stack size doesn't really come into it.

Against random mateboy, I can't envisage KK getting packed preflop too often. Likewise for stack stize.

ok.

i think im more interested in the random player scenario. id like to know at hu how deep people would have to be to fold preflop.

im thinking it would have to be 300+ bb before im even considering a fold

1. You should have sat at a $0.05/$0.10 table with that roll.

2. You should stick to playing at sites with only 3 flop cards.

3. Not much wrong with getting it all in here pre-flop with KK especially as it's BvB, but in general at deep-stacked full-handed cash games (at least at $1/$2 and above) you shouldn't be getting it all-in pre-flop with KK.

That would be correct in a HU match. In any other scenario then it's generally a big mistake.
