Post by: tikay on October 16, 2005, 02:30:52 PM
OK, Base Camp established, in our little "office" in the corner. I'm off to pick Jen up from her Hotel, round the corner.

Can you hear me, mother?.

Hello muttering crowd - play has resumed over here on Day Two with its 89 runners.

First blonde casualty - Karabiner - who made a stand with the reasonable  td tc and found  qc qh and  kc ks behind him.  Hard luck after a gruelling day yesterday.

While waiting for my breakfast kindly supplied by the magnanimous Karl Mahrenholz (who'd gone to the Mexican across the way when he found the Casino closed) a certain Dominic Pierce came up and told us his funny superstitious story from yesterday - he'd driven past a cinema showing the film 'Domino' which had misspelt it on the billboard as 'Dominic No. 1.'  May be it was a sign. ;)

jen, we haven't heard your 5am at the Village hotel controversy yet!!!

Also...Dominic Pierse...a luton player   turns up yesterday and noticed that the big screen outside the cinma multiplex opposite the Casino had

1 Dominic

As it's first film on its list of twelve

Whilst we were sharing a late afternoon cuppa he says to me

"Richard, I think poker is a spiritual game, sometimes you hit your flops in life and sometimes you don't. It's the same in poker. I'm superstitious and I believe in Omens. I am going to win this now I've seen "1 Dominic" on that big sign"

someone had changed 1 Domino (the film) into Dominic

He finished the first day with 37,100

Please keep an eye on his progress Jen

(how about that for one of the most elaborate boks you'll ever hear!!!)

Tom McCready aka RED-DOG is OUT -

Raising so as to commit his whole short stack preflop with  asp 7s, he found  jc jd behind him, and although two tempting spades came, the river was a blank and he was out.  He said he'd lasted at least three rounds, which with a small stack was not bad.

There have been at least a dozen more early exits; with so many players coming back with few chips they're trying to double up to get a chance at the long haul...
Also out are Iqbal Patel and Karl Mahrenholz, among others.

Sorry, no Village excitement this time, as I spent most of last night wandering around looking for a mystery room which I failed to find... eek.  The less said about that the better.  It looked like everyone in the world decided to holiday in Walsall and the surrounding hotels in a ten-mile radius.  Note to you travelling players - book early to avoid disappointment!

Jeff Burke is OUT -

He fell to the unstoppable day One chip leader Stuart Fox, who went for the re-re-raise with A8, cracking Jeff's 99.  He looked calm and confident this morning, and now with over 100k he has good reason to be!

Break.  They are racing the odd 100 chips as the players head for a cup of tea.  It's been an eventful 800 - 1600 level, let's see if they can keep it up at 1,000 - 2,000.

kind of hard to bubble in a comp where everyone gets paid. Although knowin Tikay he could manage it, maybe he could misread his money and think he did better lol

HotDog is OUT -

Ian Fieldhouse was the short-stacked big blind, and moved all-in to a cutoff raise and small blind call (from Dave Courtney).
They checked it down and the board came out:  9c qh 6s 7c 8h.

Ian showed:  ac 8s
Dave:   qd asp

As I was wandering, a certain Jason Imps told me to report on "the biggest percentage gain of the day."  He'd started off as the smallest stack with just 3,800, and by the time I got round to him he'd built it up to 19,500.  Good going.

Blinds are up. Looks like 1,500 - 3,000.  Tikay is hovering around the 30k mark, never up or down more than 7,000 when I wander by.  But he's trying - raising the big blind with AQ he faced a bet on the J-high flop and folded to a bet, being shown QJ.  That's the right idea, though, pity about the flop.

Title: Re: Walsall, Grosvenor Grand Prix - FINAL DAY
Post by: Djinn on October 16, 2005, 05:07:48 PM
Hi maid marion - Iwan is fairly low on 29,000.  But not desperate - the short stacks are holding their own.

In fact, chip leader Stuart Fox just doubled one up with  ad ac.  His  8c qd connected with the Queen-high flop and he lost a good 20k chunk.  It seems people have been taking chunks out of him, but he's still in the comfortable 130,000 range, and shows no sign of stopping raising...

Title: Re: Walsall, Grosvenor Grand Prix - FINAL DAY
Post by: Djinn on October 16, 2005, 05:14:30 PM
Paul Parker OUT -

I saw him good-naturedly heading out and he said he doubled down insted of up and that's the wrong direction.  Hard luck Paul - he hung in there for a while on not many chips..

Title: Re: Walsall, Grosvenor Grand Prix - FINAL DAY
Post by: Djinn on October 16, 2005, 05:18:15 PM
Psychic Twin news now -
Paul Frampton, sat to Tikay's right, has 103,000 in chips and his twin brother whom he says can frighteningly accurately read his hands is sweating him.  They are both supremely confident and Paul has his eyes on the prize.

Title: Re: Walsall, Grosvenor Grand Prix - FINAL DAY
Post by: Djinn on October 16, 2005, 05:22:15 PM
One of yesterday's chip monsters, Paul Dargon is catching up with Stuart Fox.  He has 127,000 at the moment, and seeing as 200k puts you around average for the final table, he's still doing well.

Title: Re: Walsall, Grosvenor Grand Prix - FINAL DAY

Iwan Jones is now OUT (sorry maid marion)

Here are a couple of counts I left off the last one, just for thoroughness' sake:
Joe Peel     63,000
Daniel Watson  56,000
Mick McCloskey  66,000
Colin Hawker     24,000
Kerry Taylor      75,000
Nick Whiten      30,000

A short break has just taken place, and the blinds upon returning are 2,000 - 4,000.  43 players in total left in.

Here are those who went out without previous special mention...round of applause for:
Anthony Hughes
Arshad Hussain
Man Ip
Jason Jones
Tim Maxwell
Amar Morjaria
Dean Olivant
Joe Peel
Ramazanal Abbassi
Ed Arees
Tariq Arees
Zahir Aslam
Lee Baverstock
Jeffrey Burke
Clinton Bye
Ken Clark
Dean Coombes
Yucel Eminoglu
Marc Goodwin
Ian Herbert
David Sandpearl
Gary Smolinski
John Stamatelopoulos
Carl Thomas
Mark Williams
Gary Wilson

Apart from Ken Clark, the finishers received £100.  Now anyone who drops gets a huge £250...

The Stuart Fox rollercoaster continues - down a moment ago to 115,000, he proceeded to knock out three players from his table in quick succession, building up to near the chip lead again with a huge 160,000.

This makes Paul Dargon in first place with 190,000.  Rhow is getting pics of all these guys in case you don't know what they look like yet, or have just forgotten.

Title: Re: Walsall, Grosvenor Grand Prix - FINAL DAY
Post by: Djinn on October 16, 2005, 06:10:15 PM
No, I am afraid no Viv Williams on my magic list...
Colin Hawker is still holding on with 27,000.

Nick Whiten just knocked someone out racing his 88 with their AK - he's on 70,000.

Post by: Djinn on October 16, 2005, 06:29:57 PM
I'll go look for V. Madan and Billy Howells (both still in as far as I know) after this Huge Chip Monster News:

Paul Dargon, fresh from calling the FOURTH pot raise of an  kh ad all-in player with  8c 8d which held up (sending him to 280,000) won this hand:

There was an UTG raise from Paul Frampton, which Paul Dargon called.  Dominic Pierce made a strong 40,000 re-raise from the Big Blind and after a lengthy dwell Mr. Frampton folded.

An even lengthier dwell brought a call from Paul Dargon, and when the last tiny bit went in on the  5h kd 5s flop, he turned over  7h 7d, which beat Dominic's  ad td.  Wow.

The unstoppable Paul Dargon (pictured below) with most of the chips in the room, it seems, after winning another pot against deep-stacked Paul Frampton (hereafter known as the Twin to save confusion.  It's what Tikay has been calling him and it's stuck).

Paul Frampton held  qs qh, but the Twin's  5s 6h looked better with the  5h 6s 8c flop.  It all went in, but the  8d turn got him out of jail.  He has 490,000.

I think the problem with the pics is at our end.. there are some good ones though, so Rhow is trying to resize them and set them up on Tikay's computer.
He's still in by the way, only 22,000 and looking for a spot as Paul Dargon takes the players out one by one...  In that hand against the Twin, it wasn't all-in pre-flop!  The betting took off once the two pair had been hit.

Title: Re: Walsall, Grosvenor Grand Prix - FINAL DAY
Post by: Djinn on October 16, 2005, 06:52:34 PM
Oh, I spoke a little too soon,

Tikay had 13,000 and with the blinds at 3 6, on the button went for it with  9h 7c.  As you do.  The small blind called, and the big blind called.
Flop:  ah 7h 6h.  Small blind moved in and got a caller, who had  8h 3h and had flopped the flush!  (Against  js kh).

Ah well, finally a spot came up - "You've got to throw it in at some stage, don't you?"

Chris Johnson has 105,000.

I think I may have overestimated Rob Yong's 35,000 stack.

Other players to have dropped at this stage:

Efstathios Andreou
Khayam Ezzat
Colin Gerard
Rana Gurnham
Colin Hawker
John Sadler
Robert Shiret
Mohammed Sidat
Marshall McCombie
David Mitchell

Hi Ian,

Thanks for the offer of help.  Have emailed you the pic.  Sure you'll approve.  It's the old Mk1 Granada, roomy enough for even the likes of Ariston to squeeze into.  He was last seen trying to hail a cab in the Nevadan desert having given up a promising career in Formula 1, being heard to mutter something about a chicken ranch he'd spotted on the way out.... ~:

Dan Samson has come over to the corner, saying that he had been up to 110,000, but was settled presently on 70,000.

The preparations for the final are underway in the Cardroom - it's being emptied and covered in wires and cameras.  There's a lot of pre-final preparation which needs to be done, but it looks like we'll be OK here by the power sockets.  I can even see half the final table from here.

The last 20 players are restarting.

As well as Rob in 21st, David Knight was out in 22nd, and Martin Reeve in 23rd.  At 18th, the prize money rises to £1,000.  They are all short-handed now, and with average chips at 100k there are some relatively short stacks who should be doing something soon.  I'm off to watch.

Rumit just lost about half his stack raising 25,000 and after a tortured dwell, passing to Mick McCloskey's big blind re-raise.

More Paul Dargon news now - Perri Fox OUT after having the misfortune to get it all in with  ah kc against Paul's  ad 9s.
The board came out  7d 9c 6h asp 7s and he left feeling justifiably unlucky in 20th.

This is the Final Table, all readied for tonight's climax. About £260k up for grabs, & £100k to the winner. When I see the TV Table set up, there's no doubt I feel a tinge of jealousy - I wanna be there, & I think most poker players would get a nice feelling in their willy just to sit at that table, playing for that money.

Some counts from the last 19

Nick Whiten         70,000
Paul Dargon        520,000
Dave Courtney      55,000
Chris Johnson      170,000
Dan Samson         65,000
Stuart Fox          240,000
Rumit Somaiya      40,000
Mick McCloskey    150,000

Oh, it's 18 now - Nick Whiten's KQ just took out short stacked Daniel Watson's QJ meaning that everyone now is guaranteed a £1,000 prize.

Dunno when it's on TV Snopsy. The Poker Channel are doing the "main" coverage. But Poker 425 are here too, so i can tell you for deffo we will be doing our sort of newsy coverage on next week's show, interviewing all the Finalists, interesting characters, etc. Rhow is doing the interviews - she did me! - & she looks lovely today, in a sort of black pin-striped suity jobbie thing. (If someone was to ASK for her pic, I'd have an excuse to take it & post it here).

Here we have a smiling Chris Johnson. He has a great game, & a temprement ideally suited to big occasions. He could go deep tonight. He's a big mate of Lord Lawrence Of leeds. In the foreground, Nick Smithers Whiten looks glum, whilst Rumit won't even look at the camera.

Mick McCloskey OUT in 18th - caught nicking on the button with  7d th by Chris Johnson, he eventually decided to gamble anyway, saying, "Do you have a pair?"  It turned out that Chris held  jc kc.  There was no pair forthcoming and the cagey play continues with 17 players.

Rumit doubled up in a grim fashion against some unlucky Kings - his  8c th found its way to a full house by the river.  At least that's what I gathered from a more comfortable Rumit on 60,000 ish.

Paul Dargon just took a sizeable hit from Mick Fletcher, who got his KJ all-in against the chip leader's 99.  Two Jacks on the flop lost Paul a 290,000 pot, and he has to content himself with the 340,000 he has left.

Will do mahen. May I ask if you are a male or female? I have a hunch it's the the latter.

Tighty & Iron's requests noted, give us a few mins.

Danny Samson has about 70k, clinging on, & talking a great game.

Stu Fox is well over 300k now.

Paul Dargon & Mick Fletcher - both of them play real ballsy poker, & they are on the same table, 2 seats apart. I dunno if there is "previous" between them, but they keep getting involved.

I arrived in time to see this flop....

 7c 8d 2h

Mick Fletcher bet big, Paul went over the top in a flash, setting Mick all-in. Mick gave it a dwell, a grunt, before passing in disgust. Paul threw his two cards across the table, face up.....

 9h td

Thanks Russ. Earlier, Mick announced his arrival at Paul's table in  spectacular fashion. Paul had been calling every RR, & he makes a move in the SB on Micks BB. Mick RR'd in a trice, Paul lets go, Mick shows J-5 off. It was like a statement of intent. "Mess with the fish all you want. Don't mess with me, sunshine, OK?". And they've been clashing ever since, & not once with the semblance of a real hand between them.

Can't name any of these except Foxy.

Jason Imps is OUT in 14th - I saw him standing up as Dan Samson was holding up his Aces.  He said he was happy they held up.

Hot on his heels Nicholas Nicolaou went all-in on a very short-stacked  3s 5s, and Stuart Fox's  ac 9d took him out in 13th.  They both receive £1,000, and Nick said it "wasn't bad for his first big tournament."  I always like to see people looking happy when they're having their money counted out in front of them.

Gonna have to be careful with the pics of Rhow now, his blondeness is watching. oops.....

Here's Jonathan Rabb, the Blue Square Big Honcho, & Richard, who's TD for the Grosvenor Grand Prix. They've both worked their socks off, & have been particularly helpful & supportive to blonde.

Nick Whiten OUT - (Ironside, prescient)
He had 2 hands against Mick Fletcher  - The majority of the damage was done when he got it (almost) all-in with AQ vs A6 (Nick).  The small remainder went in with K 10 against Mick's A2.  It looked hopeful when a 10 landed on the flop, but the river brought an Ace and he's OUT in 12th, for £1,000.

While, I am ashamed to admit it, on the hunt for the two players' names I'm still confusing, I heard one of them being addressed as 'Dad' and thought that guy might be the one to ask.  His Dad is Kevin Simcock, and today was the first he'd heard about what his Dad had been up to - apparently his Mum said something like "he's been in the casino playing poker for two days" and he came down to investigate.  He looks well chuffed.  I think he's heading over to play the sit'n'gos which have been starting in lieu of regular tournaments.

Blinds just gone 6k 12k.

2,150,000 chips in play I believe. Playable?

OK Luke, will do.

Smithers is Mrs & Mrs Red's new friend, eh? He's a really nice boy, proper manners, respectful, I like him a lot. Bit effiminate.

Short Stack asks what I was holding yesterday when he showed me an A. Can you remind me who you are? i men, Short Stack is surely not your real name? I THINK I recall the hand. If I'm not mistaken, I was mistaken. Thought I had a hand till you RR'd, then I realised it had all  been a misunderstanding.

WE HAVE A FINAL!

11th place was short-stacked Richard Glading who won £1,500

10th was determined in a huge crowd of spectators amid a bustle of controversy over who could bet how much when (it is Pot Limit after all) and how much each player had.  It panned out that Kevin Simcock had raised with  6d 9d and faced an all-in from Ben King with  ac kd, which he eventually called.  He hit a nine on the river and Ben has to content himself with 10th place, the TV Bubble, and £2,000.

Can't reply Yogi? Can we assume the reply function is now working? Sorry about that - we have a HUGE crowd on blonde tonight. Best behaviour!

You'll need to talk amognst yourselves for a fews minutes, until the Final starts. Play began today at 3pm, & there has not been a break all day, so they are having a mini-break I think.

I'll see if I can get some pics of the Finalists.

Here's Finalist Mick Fletcher, looking pleased with life. Hyper-mega aggressive, I'd describe him as. I asked him if he had history with Paul Dargon, "Nope, but you can't let these guys bully, you have to let them know who's in charge of the table". That's OK then.

There's still a lot of meaningful tweaking going on over here, and I think the players might be grabbing a quick bite to eat... in any case the precious chips have been moved.  When they head back there will be an announcement of the seats and chips to the chip, which is probably better than my 'to the nearest 20,000' counting.  So bear with us as we bear with them.

Someone mischievously suggested earlier that "deal talk" may be in the air. Don't be silly. The Finalists have been called to the table, but not one of them has arrived yet. All 9 of them are stood in a corner of the cardroom having a fairly anumated conversation.

And any suggestion that they agreed £20k each, plus an extra £25k for the winner, an extra £20k for 2nd and an extra £15k for third is patently untrue. Several of them rejected the notion. Allegedly.

Still no sign of ANY of the Finalists, despite being called 5 or 10 minutes ago. Whatever CAN they be talking about?

Well, the chips are all on the table and the finalists are about to make their grand entrance.  I have snuck into the spectator seating which was looking a tad thin and so I will be able to give you an account of all hands as they are announced by marvellous tournament director Richard Stanton.

There is an air of anticipation, and a bit of fidgeting.  I can see Rumit lurking at the back with Stuart Fox...

dealer deals first card 1am
break after each player busts 10 min each
break for buffet 30 mins
card room closes 4 am (to allow the winners to play wheel of death)
might get 50 hands before the finish

Title: Re: Walsall, Grosvenor Grand Prix - FINAL DAY

You think Iron is jesting? well hear this then......

They did, at last, bring the players into the arena (from the staff room) one at a time, with TD Richard larging it up on the PA system. "And in seat 1, we have so & so, with xxx.xxx chips, laying in 5th place, having qualified at Luton. And in seat 2.....". Rinse, repeat, 9 times.

Then things got surreal. Some sort of technical hitch with the TV equipment meant that none of this had been recorded.

And would you believe, they then sent all the Finalists out of the room again, & are now repeating the whole malarky.

"and, in seat 1, we have......."

And THEN it got even more bizarre. Problems with the PA system now, so we had to have Rumit introduced 3 times.

We are up to seat 7 now, on lap 3. Talk amongst yourselves please.

Karabiner, I think, judging by JR's chortling, the answer was "no". He did suggest you could lay HIM a monkey..... Ask The Camel - he's good for a bet, as a rule.

I do believe they are actually playing now. Jen is in the cardroom, I am not, so she'll give you the details. She seems to be really enjoying it, & her enthusiasm shows in her work. "Hoorah", accompanied by waving hands, is her most frequent saying. She really is a most unusual, & quite extraordinary character. An IQ of about 350, & as nutty as a fruitcake.

I'd like to thank her, on behalf of everyone watching, for her devotion to the cause. It's a privelege and a joy to work with her, &, if you don't mind me saying so, you are very lucky to have her as Updater.

The camera-eye view is being shown on the monitors outside the final table area, and I can just about see half of one if I lean sideways.  That's good, because otherwise I'd have no idea what was going on.  Not sure that poker is as good a live spectator sport as it is a televised one.  And there's no popcorn or beer.  I'm going outside for a minute where I might be able to record a hand for you watchers.

Although the blinds seem big at 5k - 10k, they've actually been rolled back from 8,000 - 16,000 to give the final more play.  Good for them.  And thanks to Simon Woolf for this piece of information, as I'd clear forgotten it.  He is the young scion of BlueSquare Marketing, and yesterday was modelling the New Design Fleece they're coming out with.  The little things they've brought along have made it for the final - Dan Samson sporting backwards baseball hat... they must be proud.

Well Iron, I would not put it like that exactly. There IS a monitor, just outside the cardroom. So I can see all the action from where I am, but Jen can't. I think she is goling to leave the cardroom & jolin me shortly.

Oddly, there has been no announcing of the action at all. Mind you, it appears to be all Raise & Pass stuff. They will loosen up soon, no doubt.

No Iron, nobody can see the hole cards. Except the holders of them, presumably.

They have now switched on the Plasma TV Screen IN the cardroom, so the audience, & Jen, can see what's happening.

I guess the lack of "hand announcing" is at the request of the TV peeps, as it would cut across their commentators, who, of course, we can't hear. It's all rather quiet & anti-climatic at the moment, truth to tell.

Camel's description of Mr Rabb's retort is uncannily near the mark. How on earth would he know how they do things at Blue Squirr....sorry, Blue SQUARE?

Mick Fletcher (the big blind)  and Stuart Fox see a  ac 4h 4c flop, which Stuart takes down betting.  And then Mick gets involved in another pot right away from the small blind against Dan Samson - and it's a biggie - Mick bets out committing Dan to all-in on the flop which is:9d 8d 2c

Dan Samson shows  ac kh (couldn't see the actual suits, sorry - they didn't focus on them that long) having called Mick's  qs kd.  It looked OK until the turn brought the  qd and the river the inconsequential  ts....

So Dan Samson OUT in 9th, winning £4,000.

I can hear Dan behind me doing the post-knockout interviews.  To be honest he's taking it pretty well, having been clearly excited to have made the final and looking forward to a shot at the top money.  I also hear he's gone directly out to do the commentary for the final, now he's not sat at it.  Good for him.

Yes Red, amazing that 4 finalists came via the online route. Maybe it's easier that way - that's how I qualified........

Hold the camera steady? At my age? I struggle to hold a cup of tea steady.

Here's a glum looking Danny Samson shortly after busting out. "The game sucks" was his eloquent description. He's not really had any chips all day, & has had to duck & dive just to survive. The guy behind him is holding a brown cardboard box - that's a Laptop, all the Finalists get one. A somewhat unusual choice of prize, but a good one.

A short toilet break - is there any other type of toilet break? - now, while the TV peeps fiddle with their knobs & stuff. I gather there is some sort of technical hitch.

Don't you just love all the details  ;D

For some unfathomable reason, the Poker Channel peeps decided to interview me, ( I think Jonathan Rabb had been telling them porkys)

They will never use it, I was like 13 year old school girl, all shy and fidgety, then, as soon as you finish, you know it was crap, you know what you should have said, and you want to do it again properly, did my street cred no good at all

After sorting out a minor technical difficulty, the players are back and off.

I find it hard to estimate chip counts at the moment from this non-vantage point, but there's an all in from Kevan Simcock called by Paul Dargon and two others - Chris Johnson and Kerry Taylor

Flop  6h 8c 5h  Paul checks, Chris checks, Kerry checks.
Turn  8h  It checks round
River  8d    Kerry bets and they pass

Kevan has Ace high
Kerry shows  js jd

Kevan Simcock is the 8th place finisher for £5,000

Unfortunately they're not announcing the chip counts to us, just into a kind of walkie-talkie.  I heard four of them:

Chris Johnson 311,000
Kerry Taylor   397,000
Stuart Fox     175,500
Pino Valentino 328,000

I'm going to try (as recommended by Tikay) to sneak round the table and eye-count the other guys' with slightly less accuracy.

Chris Johnson OUT in 7th winning £6,300

A giant all-in coup developed when Chris' whole sizeable stack got in against Kerry, who just covered him.
Chris held: qs qc      Kerry held:  jh jc

The board came an unbelievable  9c js 9d 2h jd giving Kerry a giant 700k-ish chip stack and sending an unlucky Chris out.  The rest of them are on a break.

Rumit, who's "really enjoying it" tells us he has 140,000 or thereabouts.  He is all in favour of the resetting of the blinds as it's given them time to play it out...

Apparently on the last hand they were going nuts in the commentary box - Gary Jones fell off his chair, reportedly.

For a guy who was, arguably, the best player in the Final, who'd steadily built his stack all day, who was in great shape, & had not been all-in once during the entire comp until his exit hand, where he went in with  qs qh  and got smacked on the nose by  jc jd jh js Chris Johnson, clutching his New Laptop, looks remarkably cheerful. I can't help but feel sorry for him. He's a lovely guy, he really is.

Mick Fletcher takes a pot off Paul Dargon, the ex-chip leader, with pocket 10s against Paul's pocket Sevens, with two Kings showing on board.  It's one of those rare times it gets to the river without anyone going nuts.

Hi snoppy, yeak, Mick Fletcher won a really extraordinary Main Event at Blackpool earlier this year, when, heads up with Alistair Findley, it lasted two hands, & all the chips went in with both players holding bus tickets.

Here's a man looking like he's just lost his chance of a £100,000 first prize, Rumit's  9c 9d walking into Mr Dorgan's  ad asp (I made up the suits. Like I make up my hands sometimes).

I have been reliably informed that there is NO deal at present - they're still playing for the amounts as stated previously....

Hi there - we're still here, in case you were wondering, but the action has just dried up like my windscreen fluid.  There have been a couple of flops, with (usually Stuart) taking it down at that point.  They are relentlessly breakless, and so the chip counts are not forthcoming with any accuracy, but I'll go and tell you who's ahead and who's behind.

Title: Re: Walsall, Grosvenor Grand Prix - FINAL DAY

The game has gone remarkably tight. These guys who, hitherto, have said "no deals" are playing for a shed-load of money - there's still £200,000+ in play. We are trying to get chip counts at the first opportunity.

Here, we see a TV Technician caught up in the excitement. "Calm down, it's a game of poker, dear".

The Alan Vinson "incident". Very unfortunate. But ultimately, it's a players responsibility to be present at the right time. Tough, but true. Golfers get disqualified for forgetting to sign their card. Rules am rules.

Hard to assess hbow many chips Pino has in front of him here. My guess would be about an acre.

Ladies and gents, we have a winner - the 2005 Grosvenor Grand Prix Champion is Giuseppi  - Pino - Valentino!

The last chips went in with Paul holding kc 2c against Pino's  4d 4c.  No help from the board makes Paul Dargon the runner up in this marathon event.  Congratulations to them both.

Who are the dealers? Wow, that's a toughie.

There were, i believe, 3 dealers, in rotation. Tom, Dean & Rachel.

Night foxy - nice to see you too.  Hopefully back again here for more update fun soon.

The final tablists' laptops have been handed out, and the extremely full commentator box is emptying, so we're looking after a couple of the computers as the players wrap things up.  I think some of them are even intending on going home straight away...

It's back to the accursed Travel Inn for me though (although it does sport the nicest night receptionist in the world).

Don't forget to smile at the friendly receptionist when you come to Walsall ;D

So, Grosvenor stage manage yet another successful comp - where would we be without them?

A big up to Amy from Rank, Jonathan from Blue Square, Paul, Richard, Dani, & his team at Walsall, not forgetting the lovely Receptionists here - they ALWAYS greet us with a smile. Priceless.

And of course to the viewers, & to Jen.

We are out of here now. Take care.

It's been emotional.

Jeez, trust Flushy to ask a question just after we've done the wrap-up.

I believe the deal was circa £40k each for the last four, & they played for the balance, presumably weighted.

Well done to all concerned, everyone at Walsall, the managers, director, supervisors, dealers receptionists and valets who all worked their  socks of to make this a great Grand Prix

Congrats to Blue Square, a mention in despatches for the ever smiling Jonathan Rabb, and by the way, four of the players on the final table were Blue Square online qualifiers

Kudos to all the players, both winners and losers, the game was played in a great spirit, I dont think I heard one argument in two days

It was great to meet even more members of the rapidly growing blonde army, we're taking over the world

Last but not least, a big thank you to our updaters tikay and Jen, they went through a lot, including almost total sleep depravation to bring us the the first class service that we have enjoyed over the past two days, it was an herculean task, they did a brilliant job, and it was free to everyone

Roll on next years GP, which (I have it on good authority)  will be bigger and better still

I really feel i missed out on a great event, i decided not to play this and go for the brighton 500 freeze instead. I then left Brighton early because i was annoyed and so ended up playing neither!

I will deffo be at this next year, you can take that to the bank!

Just to say thankyou to Tikay and Jen for this excellent record of the event and coverage, have never followed this before, but certainly will in the future.

Thanks to the dealers, supervisors and everyone else that made the event run smoothly.

After my first televised poker I am absolutely knackered (still) and never realised just how many breaks there are during filming. Will be back next year.

Nutflush.
