Title: Walsall
Post by: The_Ant on April 20, 2005, 08:30:45 PM
Does anybody know if Walsall are running a 100 freezeout in May?  Any info much appreciated.  Thanks

Following the staggering succes of their 100 Frezeouit a week or so ago, Walsall have introduced a weekly Freezeout, 100 NLH, every Sunday.

Bravo Grosvenor Walsall!.

I've just come back from the Luton 100 freezout.

Great comp. 30 minute clock, 5k starting chips. Lots of poker to be played.

Only problem was that the final was a crap shoot. Blinds weren't capped until the last 4, and by then it was too l8 cos the antis were 6 & 12k.

Up to the final 9 though, the comp was excellent.

Can't wait to play the 1 at Walsall.  :D

Anyone know what day and time the 100 Freezeout starts?

Is it best to pre-register?

Might travel up from Newport, and dont want to find it a wasted journey.

Wasn't quite planning to make it last night :o

Is it a sellout?   Do i need to pre-register etc.?

They get about 80 players I think, so it probably won't be a sell-out.

However, if you don't live nearby, then i'd say give em a call anyway to avoid a wasted journey.

Yes...i think so.  Only the second time i've played live, shaking like a leaf when i won a pot with the nut flush!!  I enjoyed it!

Have a slight problem, and was wondering if anyone can help me out.

Im looking to travel up to for tomorrow nights 100 Freezeout.    Problem i have is that ive just discovered that Grosvenor Cardiff cannot transfer my membership up to Walsall without me signing a form at Cardiff.
Since i dont exactly live next door, and the 24 hour rule comes into effect, im snookered.

Is it possible that someone could sign me in as a guest member?

BTW: Grosvenor Walsall state that you cannot pre-register by phone.    They assure me that it should not be sold out, but i dont really want to make a 3 hour roundtrip for nothing.

Sound m8.

Just to clarify.

Will be there at 8.30. Give us a call on the mobile when you arrive cos I don't know what u look like.

U won't get in without passport, or driving license, etc. So DON'T FORGET.  ;D

Dress code - no sportswear, grubby trainers, ripped jeans, etc. I go smart just incase they get arsey.  8)

And, finally, no knocking me out!

Just kidding.  :D

how many starting chips and how long is the clock?

100 freezout is a gd one for learners if they can afford it.

Lots of room to play some actual poker without having to worry about being overawed by folk with deep pockets.

1 problem. Always channce of an early night.  ;D

Catch u l8ers. Give us a bell when u arrive and I'll pop out and sign u in.

Well, cos this has only just started, I haven't played it be4. However, I have played the same comp in Luton. There the clock was 30 mins and you received 5k starting chips. Good structure until the final table where it turned into a lottery. Blinds were capped at 6/12k.

Post by: Newportlad on May 02, 2005, 10:30:29 AM
Thanks for your help last night Adam.  Much appreciated.

I did the fatal thing and won the first hand (Pocket Q's).
That was pretty much it.  Blew out early (1/2 way through level 2).

How did you get on?

Darren

Post by: snoopy1239 on May 02, 2005, 04:44:58 PM
Didn't get any standard raising hands all night. Only won 2 hands in total.

Went down to 1.3k but quintupled through just be4 the break.

No luck after that. Made a move with JTs. Maniac reraised with A6! Too much value not to call. Out.

Ah well. Next time.

In those days, you had to be in your seat when the Tourney started, or that was it, you could not play.

Simon Trumper, who was sponsored by 365Media at the time iirc, turned up 1 minute late for a £1,000 event at Blackpool one day & was turned away.

Walsall & Luton, used to delay the start time to accommodate any latecomers who rung up & said "I'm stuck in traffic". So an 8pm start, where we'd all be there nice & punctual, would eventually start at 9.30pm.

Haha, I remember that used to cause some aggro!

I was friendly with Pokerkong1 back in the day, and he came over for a £1500 at the Vic with LuckyULSA and another one of the prima/Laddies HSNL guys. Those were the good old days, he 'highhand' transferred me £10k on Laddies, I went and ordered it from the bookies, and just gave it to him at the Vic. You'd probably need to give blood to do something like that today.

They had all come over from Norway, but didn't have shoes when they got to the casino. All went to a store to get shoes, but the tournament had just started when they got back, and they all got given their £1500 back. Travelled over for a few side events, but got some nice new shoes ;D

Just looked him up; looks like he barely plays now.  He was a beast back in the day.

Not a lot of them do, that I'm aware of. That said, I'm so out of touch with poker, I couldn't be sure they're not still floating about somewhere.

He flew up the levels from  $50nl to $5knl in about a year :D

That was when everyone was worse than me, and even I did alright in the cash games back then.

Walsall was my introduction to live poker back in 05/06. 1000 chip rebuys, self dealt tournies, murderers and dealers, 6 card plo cash games with five quid session fees.

Good times.

You're welcome Craig. Walsall was my happiest hunting ground, so many great memories.

Remember when Paul Maxfield beat Dave Ulliot heads up, in the Meltdown was it?

I think Paul called Devilfish's AA raise with something like 53os, caught two pair and reeled him in beautifully.

He probably hasn't recovered from playing Kalooki with Manchester George that time in Stoke.
