Title: Pokerstars.com EPT Barcelona: Day 2 - At A Glance Post by: NoflopsHomer on August 30, 2007, 12:31:09 PM :hello: all, we still haven't received the chip counts yet, but I'm pretty certain that Dani Stern is the chip leader going into day 2 with around 100k. Hopefully those counts will be appearing in my email box in the next hour or so. And as I typed that, they appeared...Hurrah!
Play restarts at 5pm (4pm UK) and if you didn't know already, the tables are all going from 9-handed to 8-handed, so one or two of these guys may now be able to stretch their legs. Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Barcelona: Day 2 - At A Glance Post by: NoflopsHomer on August 30, 2007, 05:08:31 PM Patrik Antonius has knocked out Hans Ari Varsi with Tc Td vs Ad Qh, Varsi hit his Ace, but Patrik four-flushed in clubs.
Aditya Agarwal knocks out Miguel Magan Tier with 6-6 against 8-8. 6 on the river. And a chair went flying across the room. Annette Obrestad got well and truly kippered. She raised to 2.3k from UTG, Paul Wasicka pushed behind her and then Peter Tofting called his push. Everyone folded back around to the online sensation and she moved all-in as well, forcing Tofting to call her bet as well having both covered. Wasicka: 8h 8d Tofting: Ad Tc Obrestad: Kd Ks Board: 9c Ahrt 8c 9h 3h Wasicka takes the main pot, Tofting the meagre side pot and Annette_15 is OUT, the victim of a bad call perhaps? Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Barcelona: Day 2 - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on August 30, 2007, 05:18:54 PM Tables are breaking smoothly and coming to the end of this first 400/800 ante 100 level we've already dropped from 204 starting players to around 187. One of those just gone is Patrick Bueno who was taken out by Juan Maceiras Lapido. There was a raise preflop (I am going to guess this came from in-position Lapido) perhaps even two as the pot was just over 6k as the flop came down Td 5d Kc. Patrick Bueno checked, Lapido bet 8,500 and Bueno moved in. Instacall - Lapido showed Ac Aspades but made a sound like someone had just stood on his foot with a high heel when he saw Bueno's flush-drawing Jd 9d.
Turn and river: 6c 7h and a relieved young Spaniard smacks the table, shouts, "Yeah!" and has a quick grinning conversation in Spanish with the dealer, to the confusion of tablemates Thor Hansen and Jan Sjavik. __________________________________________________________ Praz Bansi hasn't got off to a good start - raising with Qc Jc he was called by the big blind and got all the way to the river with the board reading Q-5-3-3-7, at which point Praz paid off his opponent's 5k bet with Th 3h. Having started off with under 17k, this was a decent chunk of his stack, but he's calmly regarding his 10,200 he has left as still being more than a chip and a chair. Chip counts for Table Bansi: Jesus Manuel Garde 44,700 Samir Rahal 14,800 Peter Clark 42,000 Michael Greco 8,500 Jason Coyle 25,100 Gregory Dyer 45,500 Lee McCreery 10,400 Praz Bansi 10,200 Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Barcelona: Day 2 - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on August 30, 2007, 05:25:13 PM Ian Woodley, on the other hand, had a great first half hour, despite nearly missing the start as he'd failed to notice the time. "Is it five o'clock already?" he asked me, surprised, while lurking near the cash-game signup board where he was trying to insert Ryan Fronda's name into the 10/20 PLO list. He hurried off to immediate success (he's now the big stack on his table with around 50,000) while I put Fronda down for some 50/100 No Limit Hold'em with Dario Minieri.

...Matey re-raises preflop from the small blind, getting his 21k all in against Simon Wolf (I think - they are already mixed up around the room quite a bit) with Ahrt Qd against Qh Qs. Checked to in the dark for the 3d 9c 5h flop, Teltscher bet 2,800; call. Check-check for the 8d and 3c turn and river, and Jacob showed the Ad Td which was good enough, apparently. "Nice hand, sir," said Teltscher, clearly not bothered by losing the skirmishes, focused on the war... ________________________________________ This is now what the tournament area looks like with 84 players remaining: (http://www.blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=646&g2_serialNumber=1) I was politely ushered out of the too-small area by a floorperson who looked genuinely regretful that he had to remove the press who were all doing a stirling job of getting in the way of each other and knocking the back of the players' chairs annoyingly. I must have looked more mutinous than I felt, though, as he added, "Thomas said," knowing that there are few authority figures in poker so respected. There are a few gaps between some thin potted plants through which we have a pretty good view of table Woodley/Nathan/Hansen/Abrahams, though, so expect update service to continue... Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Barcelona: Day 2 - At A Glance Post by: NoflopsHomer on August 30, 2007, 09:36:06 PM Yes, the problem is that by breaking the tables in order, they've gradually compressed the players into a smaller and smaller space. What should've been done was to break the tables alternatively. (e.g 25, 23, 21) Thus freeing up the space for everyone, including the film crews. At the moment, half the cardroom is empty and the other half, jamtastically packed.
Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Barcelona: Day 2 - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on August 30, 2007, 09:46:08 PM Snapped just before ejection:
Mark 'The Thinker' Vos, who's had a lot of chips all the way through the tournament, the difference has been what they've been worth (towers of hundreds and 500s have replaced the earlier green 25s): (http://www.blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=636&g2_serialNumber=1) Michael Greco, lone remaining Dusk Till Dawn player - has been hanging on with a microstack for a long time: (http://www.blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=640&g2_serialNumber=1) This guy just doubled up nicely with Tc Th - I only had a second to see what was happening but there was definitely a Ten on the board and a pile of Thomas Wahlroos' chips heading into a little lake in front of him. He didn't look up for the whole time I was standing there, and this was the point I got sent behind the rail. Was planning on a companion picture of a now short-stacked losing Wahlroos, but he gave me a rude finger gesture instead so he doesn't get on this post. (http://www.blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=638&g2_serialNumber=1) Sole remaining female player Katja Thater, calmly playing what looks to be a slightly dwindling stack: (http://www.blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=642&g2_serialNumber=1) Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Barcelona: Day 2 - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on August 30, 2007, 10:33:58 PM (http://www.blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=644&g2_serialNumber=1)
Javed Abrahams doubled up to just over 70k through neighbour (and chip monster - must be the best part of 200k in front of him) Fabrice Soulier... Caught him collecting the chips with a board of 5d Th 9h 9c Jd in the middle and only his hand - 8s 9d - showing. The very next hand, now short stacked Rayan Nathan (about 16k) raised to 5,000 preflop. The blinds are currently 1k/2k... button Fabrice Soulier called as did small blind Javed Abrahams. The flop: Tc Jd 2d Check to Rayan who unsurprisingly shoved - the Frenchman on the button smoothly called and they were on their backs: Rayan Nathan - Aspades Ac Fabrice Soulier - Ts Th So Rayan Nathan is OUT and yet another table has been broken. Although I'm told we are just playing to the money tonight, there's still 15 people or so to go. Here's some photos of what I've managed to just about get. Michael Greco had short-stacked Katja Thater all-in with Q-Q vs 5-4 on a 9-5-x board, Katja spiked her two pair on the turn, Greco was not amused. Thewy came by quickly for a short pep talk. After a very promising nearly two days, he found himself with 45k facing a raise from Dags Mikkelsen to 5,500, holding 9d 9c. "I heard that lots of aggressive Scandinavian players have been calling in position with pairs like Nines and Tens," mused Julian, "I decided to call..." The flop came 8-4-5. Mikkelsen bet out 10k, and Julian moved in. "As soon as he called I knew I was toast," admitted Thewy, and sure enough Dags had made a set of Fours. "I had a good run," though, he added, with the same equanimity with which he often faces elimination, even close to the bubble. There are currently 64 players remaining, and they will stop at 56 - the money. I was over on the other side of the room behind a press raile and saw a crowd gathering around that table, then with a fist pump, he raked in a big pot. Sadly this below is the best view I can get of his stack. One of the spectators told me he had A-7 against K-Q and flopped two pair to bust the player who was sitting to his right. Probably not the most reliable information ever but all I could manage sorry. (http://www.blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=660&g2_serialNumber=1) Dani Stern is even more problematic to provide news on, he's right in the middle of the room, and the only nearby spectator rail is being used by Pokerstars to set-up their feature table for tomorrow. He has his back to us from the press rail, just to make matters worse. TioMac - I'm afraid I don't know the names of any of the remaining Spanish players, but I'm sure there's still a fair few. 60 players remain and we are 4 from the bubble. Paul (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=864) Wasicka (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=864) is the latest casualty, though he still had time to come to the pressroom to do an interview, seems like a nice enough guy. DTD's Michael (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=279) Greco (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=279) has doubled up with A-K against A-9. I can't see a thing, but I have found three young informants perched on chairs ringside who shared this information about Wasicka's exit with me:
Paul Wasicka moved in preflop with 7s 7d, called by Sylvester Geoghegan with Qd Kd. The flop was a resoundingly straighty 9-T-J and Sylvester was apparently jumping up and down in an agitation of joy as he knocked out the American pro. Apparently there had been quite a lot of chat with Pete the Beat on this table, lots of, "If you raise once more I am going all in," followed by, "Well, I'll call." Pete couldn't call this time (he had 5-7 off) but Mr. G. could and did. Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Barcelona: Day 2 - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on August 30, 2007, 11:56:29 PM A couple of earlier big stacks have been severely shortened in the last level - it looks like Dani Stern now has around 40k, while Fabrice Soulier is the most dramatic riches to rags tale of today - the Chair Informers tell me he has only 30k after a prolonged downswing that started when he paid off a player with Sevens full on the river and has ended with him in precarious position on the bubble.
Did I mention it's.............. ............ BUBBLE TIME ;mc; Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Barcelona: Day 2 - At A Glance Post by: NoflopsHomer on August 31, 2007, 12:21:11 AM And the bubble has bust.
