I believe Dan Carter is playing. Any updates on the Scrote's progress much appreciated.

As I trundled into the cardroom just moments ago, the atmosphere seemed slightly more serene than yesterday's frantic bedlam, players laughing, reclining back on their chairs and generally not reflecting the seriousness that a 5k investment might bring. One of those players is Nik Persuad, although he's rarely uptight about any poker game, whether it's a £5 rebuy or a 10k freezeout.

"Hey snoops," he beckons. "I loved your line last night about Scott Fischman, saying he was following in the pie eating steps of Dutch Boyd. I know him and he says he's put on two stone. I emailed him what you said."

Oh great, now I've got a 20 stone beast after my blood.  ;hide;

There is a great atmosphere in the are today, really buzzin.  There were some names yesterday but today seams so many more.  I asked a few players if they were excited or nervous and most of them just shrugged their shoulders or said "no, not really."  There was one Stuart Rutter though who oozed so much excitement and positiveness it was a pleasure to see, I think he even woke me from my early in the day sleepy head.

They have just taken their seats and kicked off and it looks like a more hefty 215 seated as opposed to yesterdays 178.  Seen

I have been reliably informed, by himself, that Dan Carter is not playing today.  He has decided to conentrate on Dublin instead.

As the tournament director was reading through a long list of dreary rules, a few familiar faces passed before me, one of whom was Roland de Wolfe who couldn't resist commenting on my recent growth of facial hair. "Are you ill?" he asks. "You look like Socrates." Right, no good reports for that cheeky monkey!

Also spotted was a confident Chris Sokrati, massuestastic Trevor Reardon tripping on the stairs and Stuart Rutter dwelling on his nasty Thew-ing at the Broadway with K-K vs. A-Q, a testicle crunching Five making Julian a straight on the River.

I also caught sight, although only just, of Tony Bloom, a rare specimen these days in cardrooms, but a friendly face nonetheless.

As I was chatting to a jubilant Welshman, Martyn Reeve, who finished in 9th place yesterday with 50,000 and sure to receive more coverage from us bloggers come Day 2, I couldn't help but spot a young player squeeze out Kings on the very first hand. Eagerly equipped with my inside knowledge, I watched on fascinated by what might unfold. With Josh Gould, who is replacing father Peter who was called away on work duties, limping in early position, Mr Kings raised it up to 250 and Josh called. The Flop came Th 6h 8c and Josh checked, only to fold to a 500 bet from Mr Kings. Nice to see those Cowboys early, but he may have been hoping to prise out a little more from the young Brit and recent NPL finalist.

Any Scarf updates would be greatly appreciated.

One of the early exits of the days is a former EPT winner, 2006 Baden victor Thang Duc Nguyen hitting the deck within the first 15 minutes.

Looks like he has opted for the white shirt/free hair little number today.

I'm unsure as to how he dropped so low but the Eggman Thomas Walhroos has just doubled up... although only up to 2,950 (!)

It was a bit of an escape too, Wahlroos pushing in his shorstack with Jc Tc but running into the Pocket Kings (Kd Kc) of the ever-consistent Lutonian Paul Alterman. Although dominating, the board came Qc 2h 5c 9h 8h to River The Eggman a straight, Alterman dropping his shoulders in frustration but probably equally glad that it wasn't for more chips.

I don't know if it's been confirmed or not, but the board is reading a total number of 212 players.

Meanwhile, back at the tables, Priyan de Mel is bumping and grinding early doors, his 2,725 bet into a 4.5k pot and a 4c 6s 4d 2c Kc enough to take down a nice pot and signify a positive start.

Sharing a table with Daniel Dodet, Trevor Reardon and the tantastic sunbedder Carlo Cirtone is EPT Dublin finalist William Thorsson. Equipped with Terminator shades and a deadly stare, Thorsson (utg+1) involves himself in a pot with a young under the gun Mateyboying neighbour. With the Flop bringing 6d 8c Ad, Thorsson called a 300 bet before being check-raised (550 to 1,600) on the 9c Turn. The Swedish menace called, and then again when his opponent confidently bet out 2,025 on the 6s River. In the end, it was a very good call from Thorsson, his opponent being forced to show a paltry Td 8d, Thorsson's Ac Jc taking the spoils and shooting the WSOP 2006 13th place finisher up to 13k in chips.

As the Tc Turn hit the River, Griffin rose from his seat like a jet propelled whippet, not willing to stay for the 7c River and wanting to escape the table as quickly as possible.

Although battered and bruised worse than one armed boxer, Griffin was gentlemanly to wish his opponents good luck as he left while Hedlund happily stacked his chips for a virtual double up.

On my travels just now, seen a few exits.  Sorry to say Ram Vaswani is a gonner.  He just came and found me and and said "I got one message for you only, see you next year!" And with that headed towards the cash tables.

I caught John Gale on his way down the stairs and towards the door, he said "I told you I wouldnt be about long" I sheepishly asked what but he really didnt wanna tell me.  Bullish bird that I am kinda pushed it out of him.  It was Ben Grundy that did the damage.  In a hand with  Ad 3d against Grundy's  4c 4s the flop:

Adam Stoneham, who finalled a GUKPT recently, was eliminated moments before the break in circumstances that would make even some of the most stoic of faces wince as if receiving a full body wax.

After Patrik Antonius had limped under the gun, Adam raised it up with Aces and was flat called by the tennis coaching Fin. Both players checked a T-2-3 rainbow Flop, only for Patrik to move all-in over the top of Adam's 1,200 bet on the Six Turn.

Adam called and was shown a rather pleasing Kings, which quickly transformed joy into chagrin as it made trips on the soul-destroying King River.

Harsh one for Stoneham, but elation (although he's hardly going to show it) for Patrik.

Although still plugging away, Steve Jelinek is ruing a call he made against mischievous Hit Squadder Praz Bansi. According to Jelinek, he hit a set of threes on a 3-7-T, smooth called a re-raise from Praz before checking the Jack Turn. With Praz also checking, Steve bet out 800 on the Jack River, but found himself calling a 2.2k re-raise from Praz who was sitting pretty with Quads.

"I could have folded," mused Steve, "but there's a decent chance that he has the straight or even Aces. I saw him play Aces that way later on."

I feel for Adam as we were talking about the EPT whilst playing a game on BF last night and he was looking forward to it,l had a bit of a bad beat myself yesterday when the guy hit QUADS on the river with all the chips in the middle on the turn and me sitting pretty with the second nuts and a flush draw to boot.

Got over it quickly though as l am becoming immune to the bad beats now. One of those things and best of luck to the guy as l want his chips in the pot everytime. Best of luck to all the brits today and the ones left from yesterday.

Stuart Nash is currently swimming along rather nicely with 20,900. He used the term "bits and pieces", but did relate one curious hand: "I had J-8, checked it down on a 3-3-T-7 board and bet 200 on the 9 River with my straight. My opponent chucked in 1k, and was asked if it was a raise or a call. He said it was a raise but Ian Frazer intervened and claimed it had to be a call. At that point, I used some experience and quickly said "I'll re-raise it to 2k. He called with A-3."

With the break causing the players to swarm around the table like flies around... no, I won't say it, I managed to catch up with a few choice folk, one of whom was the gangly Mantis himself, Karl Mahrenholz.

"I'm on 19k, but haven't really played many big hands. I'm just secretly bashing them up, re-raising and not showing any big hands."

Italian Stallion Christiano Blanco is on 7,500.

He remains in high spirits though.

Keith Hawkins and John Shipley were both propping up the bar, although The Camel was inevitably the only one consuming any alcoholic beverages. After his six figure win in the recent PokerStars online event, John Shipley is riding the wave, but is yet to gather speed on his surfboard at this EPT with just 11k. A peak of 11.5k and a trough of 8.5k, "No hands" were the only words I could prise out of him. Keith, however, is hovering around the 20k mark having "flopped two sets and had Aces paid off."

Also spotted at the bar, which is cutely doubling up as a rail this week, is Nik Persuad. A fearsome player when at his best, Nik seemed troubled by the encounter that halved his stack and was seemingly in two minds as to whether or not he could have got away from the hand. According to Nik (15k), the surprisingly sober Stuart Fox (8k) re-raised his late position raise from the blind before betting out 750 on a Qc Tc 4s Flop. Nik didn't like this Flop, suggesting that he's been outdrawn by Queens or Tens and won't get paid by Jacks. However, the bet was small in relation to the pot, so Nik called. The Turn brought a blank, 5d say, and once again Stuart bet out, this time 1,600. In an instant of deja vu, Nik called. The River was the 2h, and with what was essentially the 4th bullet, Stuart fired one last time, pushing all his chips over the line. Nik reluctantly called, but was disappointed to be met by two Ladies for a set.

Doig is quietly plugging away with his head just above water with 10,900. Whether that means he's gone up to 30k, down to 1k and back up to 109k or simply hasn't played a hand, I'm not sure as he's tucked away in the corner and not particularly accessible.

I was just about to take a snap of your sibling-in-law, but when I went to press the button, it had disappeared. It was at this point that I suddenly realised that the camera wasn't actually mine, but someone else's that I'd accidentally picked up from the press room.

If it had been the blonde poker camera I would personally be turning my pants a different colour frantically searching high and low for an expensive device that I would deem to be stolen and gone for good. With this in mind, I probably should have skipped back up to the media room to return the camera to its rightful owner rather than declining the chance to ascend the stairs once more and instead watching the action and accruing hands.

Does that make me bad? ;shame;

Pete Linton has exited, after knowing him quite well from Gala in Nottingham, he is quite capable from going from chip leader to out, or a bowl of rice to chip leader in mins.  I asked what happend but all he would give me was:

"I made the wrong move at the wrong time" & "I got Scandied"  Ul Pete.


Also Iwan Jones was left nursing a 2K stack after a QQ v AK confrontation.  Iwan flopped a third Q but the board brought 4 spades with matey holding  Aspades.  Iwan even had the  Qs.  I said "thats gross" he said "Its just standard!"

There is a Gutshot player called Tony Phillips who just raked in a massive pot totalling about 65k.  He caught nearly the whole cardroom's attention by shouting quite loudly after knocking out a Russian player.  He was heard shouting "YES! You called me with 10 high?"  On further inspection, Tony held 88's and all the chips went in with one card to come when the Russian held only a hopeful open ended straight draw and flush draw.  He missed the lot and Tony Phillips has about 70,000 and Negreanu, Lieu & Dewolfe on his table to impress with his stack.

He just survived an all-in for 5.4k on a 7h 8c Tc Flop. I couldn't count the chips because they were in a pile, but I think he's okay, the pot seemed chunkier than the bet.

I don't know if I share this pet hate with any of our viewers, but don't you just hate it when you go into the mens' room bursting for a number two only to find the cubicles taken up by folk undertaking a number one. The urinals will be completely free, but what's worse is that when they do depart the vacinity, you find youself having to clean up after them because they couldn't be bothered to lift the seat.

Roberto Romanello would entertain / drive nuts any body that would care, or by table draw randomness, sit with him.  I was told earlier of some brilliant speech play on some poor kid, Roberto was sat there with quads whilst mateboy was dwelling a 3k bet from him on the river.  The boy dwelled, Roberto repeatedly told him to pass his hand because "I have the better hand"  "You wont win" etc etc and get paid he did.

Verbal wonder Roberto Romanello doesn't need to talk his opponents into submission, he can flop a full house against them instead, which is exactly what he do when he stumbled into 3h 3s and an Ac Ad 3c Flop. With Roberto's initial bet being re-raised all-in by his nextdoor neighbour, Roberto instacalled (quite literally) and shoved in his chips quicker than a sheep at a Welsh farmyard auction. Mateyboy showed Qc 8c, so was virtually drawing dead.
