activation puts you in the waiting list for a team, they're then manually activated.

I seem to have a couple of decent players:
reasonable bat
capable keeper

Same league as Ramshire and Tractor...

I've got a decent all rounder and some bloody good youth prospects by the looks of things..

I have problems in that my best bowlers are also my best batsmen!  I havn't managed to luckbox anyone of any quality though, no ratings higher than average.

I had a bad start, then I took a wicket, then another 5, and now they are scoring at an acceptable rate.

I have no idea if my team can bat though!

My youth team is going to lose, heavily!

Title: Re: from the pavillion - another cricket game
Post by: Bazzaboy on October 17, 2007, 12:37:59 PM
My youth team despite being absolutely useless (numbers 10 and 11 are in there to make up the numbers as neither can bat nor bowl) appear to be going well.  I'm chasing 161 against the side Booder beat yesterday.

End of over 7 (5 runs) - KBOTW(47-1). 115 runs required from 33 overs. RR 6.71 RRR 3.48
McKone 25 (24b), Pritchard 8 (13b), Berry 4-0-27-0

I've just got my team - Beloved Ltd.

They've done alright in the few matches I missed before taking over, so I'll it be interesting to see just how quickly I can completely ruin a potentially good side. :)

2 games again for me today

friendly vs the tractor boys I scored 337-7 and restricted to 260-8.. no major batting scores, my main bowler taking 2-33 always good

20/20 game vs Ominous tinge, they batted 1st and scored 127-5, with 3 of my bowlers under the run a ball ( 1-15 being the best) and scored 131-2 off 16 overs in reply with my opener scoring 66no from 56 deliveries

Which leaves me top of the 20/20 league on NRR

My youth team had an unlikely last ball win

KBOTW defeated norfolkngood by 4 wickets

End of over 40 (12 runs) - KBOTW(223-6) RR 5.58
Marshall 5 (6b), Pritchard 78 (75b), Templeton 8-0-59-2
39.6 2 Templeton to Marshall : A lovely on-drive pierces the infield and the batsmen cross for 2.
39.5 3 Templeton to Pritchard : Played forward of square leg and they'll come back for 3.
39.4 4 Templeton to Pritchard : Streaky! Templeton pitches it up, Pritchard waits for movement but there isn't any and the ball takes the thick outside edge and screams away down to third man.
39.3 1 Templeton to Marshall : Hit wide of cover for a single.
39.2 1 Templeton to Pritchard : Nicely played behind square leg for a single.
39.1 1 Templeton to Marshall : Nicely played forward of square leg for one.

End of over 39 (3 runs) - KBOTW(211-6). 12 runs required from 1 overs. RR 5.41 RRR 12.00
Pritchard 70 (72b), Marshall 1 (3b), Barber 8-1-35-1

Mine lost.

Need more batsmen - that's what next weeks YP will be.

Seems a little easy this - good YP every week and every can be trained!

Title: Re: from the pavillion - another cricket game
Post by: Jon MW on October 24, 2007, 05:24:37 PM
My youth team lost - by such a large margin, that it's just plain embarrassing.

We lost 10 wickets to reach our paltry total of 139, and the oppo. beat it in less than 20 overs without losing a wicket  ;ashamed;

I think upping the training investment is in order.

after a great start vs the tractor BOYS.. having them 9-3 they recovered to score 220-8 from their 40 overs.. with an unbroken 76 9th wicket partnership

in reply it was close but just made it.. 226-5 off the 1st ball in the 40th over

No I was trying to resist the temptation of adding too many games to distract me from work, but when a second cricket game came up I knew I had to add one of them (it'd have been rude not to, when they go to so much effort to create the websites :) )

I'm doing ok in my game - one guy just out for 78, another has an unbeaten ton.

The game is moving server this weekend, so hopefully you'll be able to get on to play then booder.

You're currently bowling in your match:   (3 wickets, 28 overs)     141

End of over 36 (1 runs) - Ominous Tinge(167-7). 103 runs required from 14 overs. RR 4.64 RRR 7.36
Duncan 30 (22b), Keogh 5 (11b), Gentle 8-0-29-3

Best win from here

Title: Re: from the pavillion - another cricket game
Post by: amcgrath1uk on October 26, 2007, 03:48:56 PM
Bowled them out for 223 in the 48th over

Saving grace for me was the 99 unbeaten 8th wicket partnership between by keeper and star spin bowler

decent bowling performances all round with none going for more than a run a ball

Back to winning ways. :)

I'm reasonably confident that my senior side are on the right track now, I just need to work out what to do with the idle youth.

Decided to alter my pitch to finally suit my spinners

I made what looked a disappointing 145-7

My bowlers showed how much they enjoyed the pitch, bowling out the opposition for just 90, with my new youth team promoted player taking 2-17

Title: Re: from the pavillion - another cricket game
Post by: amcgrath1uk on November 14, 2007, 10:00:10 PM
my youth team got kinda smashed about the park

conceded 271-4 from the 40 overs, despite one taking 1-21 from their 8 overs

In reply a valiant effort, scoring 247 AO with 13 deliveries left.

Guess thats what happens when I promote the best youth bowler I had to the senior squad ( and possibly the next best too)

very true. however I have bowlers I'm more interested in developing in my youth squad ;)

convincing win in my youth game today.. after scoring 303 from 40 overs I wasn't particularly worried. Won by 64 runs

Won my 20/20 yesterday by just 2 runs.

Quite simply an astonishing game between myself and Ramshire.

I set my guys to aggressive, forgetting to check the pitch, which was green.

Went to work with the score at 64-6 and in all sorts of trouble.

staples finished on 305-9!!! my keeper scored 99 from 129 deliveries, and my no 10 and 11 scored at more than a run a ball with the no 10 scoring 47no.

In reply I think Ramshire were demoralised and were all out for 117.

finished 2nd in the 20/20, 3rd in the youth league and a guaranteed 2nd in the OD league. means just under 400k for my coffers and not getting promoted. probably the best result for my team.

Esp as my 16yo is looking totally awesome and my all rounders are starting to improve rapidly. Liking the new talents too :)

A good start for my lot in the 20/20.

Bowling first, bowled out the opposition for 69. Playing 4 spinners on a crumbling pitch is always good :)

R. Peterson     2     0     5     1     2.50     0     0
T. McBeath    2    0    2    0    1.00    0    1
B. Hogan    2.1    1    4    4    1.85    0    0
B. Lamb    2    0    4    1    2.00    0    1

And Hogan is the worst of my spinners!

In reply, knocked off the runs in 10 overs without losing a wicket :)

Again, a great day today in my youth game!

hit 275-5 after being 106-5. A nice unbeaten century from my talented 20k rated 17yo, and my all rounder ( bowling all rounder) hit 81no from 68 balls

In reply battered them out for 123.

And a nice rating of over 57k for the youth team!!

What rank is your youth team?

Title: Re: from the pavillion - another cricket game
Post by: amcgrath1uk on January 31, 2008, 12:53:55 AM
39th in youth, 8th in 20/20 and 9th in OD. So not too bad. I only have 2 19yo youths and they're both up for sale.

Got a 22k rated 17yo in the youth team, and one 22k in the senior team!

Title: Re: from the pavillion - another cricket game
Post by: Bongo on January 31, 2008, 12:57:09 AM
I've got a 25k 17yo in the youth squad, and about 5-6 on 22k or there abouts!

My youth team is ranked 8 in the world... my senior squad less so - although I think if I could expand it slightly it would be ok!

cool.. sounds like you've a good future!

How much r u spending on youth and first team?

Title: Re: from the pavillion - another cricket game
Post by: Bongo on January 31, 2008, 01:06:09 AM
I've set the training and forgotten about it...

I look at the spend every so often and make sure it's more than average!

I don't actually spend too much time playing ftp!

Title: Re: from the pavillion - another cricket game
Post by: amcgrath1uk on January 31, 2008, 01:13:48 AM
fair enough haha

I'm only going to do well in the OD on battrick this season, havent a prayer in FC so not even trying in it lol!

So only have to focus one day a week on it so have more time for the rest

I've started pushing on all fronts on FTP with the extra finance I got for my finishing positions last year

Currently spending approx 30k on the youth team, and looking to be moving on from a good academy in the next week or so. 18k on the senior squad and again looking to have a good first team within a few weeks!

Another strong performance in the OD match today

Bowling 1st had them 155-8 till they recovered to reach 212-8

Result never in doubt in spite of a wobble in the 170s, and won by 5 wickets

A VERY nice rating of over 75k too ;)

a bloody good popping day

both of my keepers popped in batting, one to average, one to ordinary.

my star no 2 all rounder popped in tech to average

my 17yo star bowler popped in endurance to ordinary

And lastly by star batsman popped to capable ( my 1st batting capable!)

Title: Re: from the pavillion - another cricket game
Post by: Bongo on February 07, 2008, 11:19:20 AM
I had a pretty good day...

1x bat to reasonable
1x bowl to reasonable
1x tech to average

Endurance to poor on an all rounder (capable batting/reasonable bowling/reasonable tech/ordinary power). He's gifted in endurance so hopefully will pop a few levels quickly then I can get him back on the all rounder training (will train power when he's a bit older and it goes up quicker!)

awesome!!

I lost once in OD, and once in 20/20. Both games I dropped my all rounders to rest them, still expected to win both. Didn't lol

Stll 1st/1st and 3rd in OD. Expect to be 2nd once I get my run rate up in OD, then will be going all out to SMASH the league leaders when I play them next time

Another great week, 3 straight wins, am now 1/1/2 in the leagues

17yo bowler from last weeks YP popped to capable :)  Might sell him as his secondaries aren't that good!

I now have a 17yo capable keeper, with reasonable batting to boot!

Won a tight game today!

An awesome bowling performance saw us bowl out the oppo for 132. One bowler taking 2-9 from his 8 overs, my new capable bowler also getting a cpl of wickets

In reply crusing at 104-2  when we got the wobbles, but won by 2 wickets in the end!!

Ouch. Mine could have easily gone that way today too

Thankfully even in youth I bat to 8 at least ( and thats with today having dropped 2 all rounders!)

Some great ratings there Bongo... would be better than most senior teams!

I think they're better than my senior team too...

Youth bowlers - 2 x capable, 4 x reasonable + a few average etc
Senior - 3 x reasonable (1 of which is an allrounder (my best bat) who hasn't been bowling while I up his endurance), 2 x average.

Still, should be good for the future!

Title: Re: from the pavillion - another cricket game
Post by: amcgrath1uk on March 13, 2008, 07:52:29 PM
Muchos nice!!

Bowlers:

1 capable in my juniors ( tho I'm selling him as his secondaries are poor!)
2 reasonables and 5 average ( nice mix of them too)

Batters:

2 reasonable and 4 average ( pulling batters at the mo!)

Senior team

Batters:  1 capable, 2 reasonble, loads of average
Bowlers:  1 reliable, 1 capable, 1 reasonable, lots of average

Good all rounders mixed in too!!

Title: Re: from the pavillion - another cricket game
Post by: Bongo on March 13, 2008, 08:18:53 PM
Batting wise I have:
Youth: 3 x reasonable, 5 x average (1 all rounder)
Senior: 1 x capable, 5 x reasonable, 7 x average, 1 x ordinary (and none worse!)

if I can find a couple of batters ( thinking in my youth team) and an opening bowler ( typically I've got old ball bowlers and spinners) then my team is going to look fairly awesome!

I have one more player in my senior squad, and the same in my youth squad (with one for sale...)

I just realised how good some of my youths are...

all these are 17yo:

Capable bat/Capable WK
Capable bowler w/ gifted bowling and bouncer ability
Capable bowler w/ gifted endurance (not so sweet but better than nowt)
Reasonable bat/Reasonable bowler with gifted bowling and finisher ability
Reasonable bowler w/ prodigy
And another reasonable 17yo bowler too.

What have you got?

Err can I just say SWEET JESUS.. no wonder people are jealous of your squad!!

I've got 2 capable bowlers, neither with any decent talent worse luck ( BUT both 17yo!)
1 reasonable bowler with gifted tech
1 reasonable bat with reasonable tech ( skilled tech)

however I think my best player is an ordinary bat, average bowl who is a finisher with capable technique ( always performs!)

I've just promoted an 18yo reasonable bat ( as I'm short on batting in my seniors), and obv already have my 17yo reliable bowler in my seniors ( didn't read up on training properly did I lol)

The 1 thing my seniors do have going for them is that I have a v v young squad. Best current player is 25, with 2 fairly decent 22yo's as well as a good few 19yo's

I promoted 2 18yr old reasonable bowlers, and 1 18yo reasonable bat, should help boost my ratings tomorrow, along with the 2 19yo reasonable bats i promoted and forgot about.

Still have 5 reasonable+ bowlers in the youth squad.

I'm a huge luck box, lol.

Hopefully I can help England in the PCC now :)

Indeed.. I reckon you're looking approx 90k?? If I hit 82/83k i'll be fairly happy!

The one advantage if I play on a spinning pitch especially, is I have 4 bloody good senior spinners. They've not let me down.. so far

Should be an interesting game!

We'll see tomorrow!

I'd like to get some huge number just to wind up Eggy, and that aussie dude.

Yeah tell me about it, the only thing I've been annoyed about this season is that I'm in div V with my sillyly good team.

My main priorities are to a) get THE best player in the game and b) to have a better team than those 2 lol

Title: Re: from the pavillion - another cricket game
Post by: Bongo on March 20, 2008, 01:59:41 AM
There's a div 5?  :o

Do you mean knights or spadge? I'm on about the dude who wasn't happy that he was no longer #1 in the world ;)

I think you'll need to be very lucky/rich to have the best player in the world due to training!

yeah there is believe it or not. Where I got bloody stuck. Div IV after this season for sure.

thats Scaly Piscine if memory serves.. naaa don't care about him.. Knights is actually ok, Spadge and Eggy are the 2 I want..

hopefully I'll get to play Eggy in a cpl of rounds time in the cup.. soooo praying for a home match!!

I want a POB style dominance lol

Well played sir!

I want a rematch though, when I don't misread the pitch type and set dumb orders, the exact opposite of what I should set.  ;ashamed;

I had a suspiscion my ratings may drop - 10 and 11 can't bat as well now, so although I think the team is stronger the ratings do suffer a bit.

Also need to round off some players with a bit of technique and fielding (and maybe some power, but waiting for them to get older for that really).

I'll get there eventually... ;)

Next job - win the crunch od game tomorrow!

Title: Re: from the pavillion - another cricket game
Post by: amcgrath1uk on March 20, 2008, 04:04:02 PM
Anytime.. any pitch ;)

I went for my usual batting orders, 1 on normal, remainder on aggressive. The normal guy did get 114 no tho!!

bowling I mixed up, put my best bowler on attacking 0-60, my worst bowler on defensive, 2-28 inc 4 maidens and left my spinners too it.

I did also leave my better ( av wise anyway) batters at 8 and 9 to see what the others would do.

Also my youth promote did well ( 27 off 30) before being run out.

Title: Re: from the pavillion - another cricket game
Post by: Bongo on March 20, 2008, 04:23:04 PM
I had seamer on attacking - he got 1-20, the rest were defensive aside from the spinner i set as attacking (thought the wind might help). I'd set them all more attacking and a defensive spinner if I were to do it again. Less attacking batting orders and try to bat out 50.

Title: Re: from the pavillion - another cricket game
Post by: amcgrath1uk on March 20, 2008, 04:27:13 PM
Weird ain't it. My reliable bowler getting tonked. Think I might set him more normal/defensive till I get his tech up ( 3 levels behind his primary)

won by 97 runs today on a flat pitch.

Nearest 2 competitors both lost :)

means I'm no 1 in all 3 leagues, and only in 20/20 is someone level in points ( my NRR is way superior)

Now for the cup match 2moro!!

Promoted a cpl of 18yo's after popping today, as they won't pop again b4 they are 18, plus they boost my batting quite a bit!

Just waiting for my ord/ave all rounder to double pop b4 promoting him too ( with capable tech) as he'll perform well.

Title: Re: from the pavillion - another cricket game

My pops:
16yo to dreadful bowling :?: I must have forgotten to fire him!
17yo to reasonable batting.
17yo to average bowling
16yo to ordinary tech
17yo to reliable bowling and ordinary endurance
17yo to reasonable bowling (this one is a prodigy)
17yo all rounder to poor endurance (plan on training this up in the senior squad when he is older)
16yo to poor tech.

I don't think it matters that they won't pop again before the end of the season - they'll still take the extra training with them to the senior academy. I'm planning on promoting my 18yos just after the last youth training of the season so they get a bonus senior training ;)

nice 17yo bowler it seems

very true about that, but my seniors definitely need a batting boost.. and 2 reasonable bats ain't a bad way to go!

Also helps me take some of the heat out of some of my batters and gives them a rest!

The 17yo reliable bowler is gifted in bowling and has the "bouncer" skill, so is rather nice. Shame he's only a medium pacer!

very nice. think it'll come in quite handy for you. good thing I suppose is that you can play him on pretty much any surface and he'll be fairly consistent.

I have found that the bouncer works in 2 ways.. either you get a wicket, or more likely ( esp amongst slower bowlers) it gets bashed to the boundary.

I've got a big game 2moro.. still top but only on NRR. Playing a decent team in 4th.. hoping that 2nd loses!

stunning performance by my youth team today.

Hit 335-1 with both openers hitting 150. In reply bowled them out for 82!!

Another couple of wins should see me wrap the division up!

MAJOR game on Friday vs 2nd in the league. Should help decide promotion, so have rested a few of my top players in training this week.

Eggy thinks my reliable youth bowler is a bug... despite you having one ages ago.

Do you think he'll be happy when I have another in the coming weeks?  ;hide;

or that by this time next year I should have 2 accomplished bowlers in my youth team??

expecting one of them to be reliable in 5 weeks or so... I need batters next... hoping for an excellent senior academy this coming week too

I should have 2 accomplished bowlers by then as well then ;)

Might take a bit longer for an accomplished bat, mine only turned capable last week - but he was capable w/k a while ago! ;)

yeah thats where I'm struggling.

Think I'll be pulling batters till the end of the season as I've got loads of bowlers coming through!

Title: Re: from the pavillion - another cricket game

I don't have so many decent bats in my youth team, plenty of reasonable+ in my seniors though.

My problem is a lack of a quick bowler or wrist spinner, and only a couple of fast mediums.

I don't know whether to pull batsmen and boost that side, or pull bowlers and hope to get a decent strike bowler!

Now up to a superior youth academy.. and my YP's get worse each week, with lower pop amounts too!

3 games I SHOULD win this week!

I pulled a seam bowler this week and got a 16yo average bat with skilled batting  :dontask:

I see you've left it to me to avoid a whitewash against the windies too!

you do seem to be fairly lucky with the pulls lol.

Yeah this cup game. Still annoyed by it. Had the best batter and the best bowler, as well as probably the 2 better all rounders. had them in all sorts of trouble at 91-4, with 5 overs of reasonable, 10 overs of capable and 5 overs of reliable left, and they scored at pretty much a run a ball for the last 25 overs. batting wise, only really had 2 out of my TEN average+ batters perform. Highly annoyed

Another convincing 20/20 win

Bowled out the opposition for 62 in the 15th over, my only spinner ( my 4th best) took 4-7!

Knocked them off for the loss of 1 wicket in the 8th.

Still lead all 3 leagues, but the 20/20 will be defined by one match, 1st v 2nd as we're level on points ( tho I'm ahead on NRR) which is the 2nd last fixture of the season at their place.

Managed a decent win today - thought I was going to lose for 90% of the match but a 150 run unbeaten partnership got me over the line!

Think I managed the 3rd highest youth ratings in the world this week. I'm hopeful I can get #1 in the world at some point next season, as all my players are 16/17 and all the players above me have some players that will either be promoted or stop improving next season...

Didn't realise it till the match had finished ( damn moving), that it was a BOT bash.

Hit 311-4 in my 40 overs, bowled them out for 125. Still top by 8 points :)

haha fair enough

got a random challenge n thought sod it lol

Gives me an idea about my other players too

Think I've found someone who might be a semi decent player

16yo with ordinary batting, average tech, average power, and ordinary fielding.. poor bowling poor endurance.. plus he's a boundary hitter...

without that talent activating today, he hit 54no from 23 deliveries!

Title: Re: from the pavillion - another cricket game

Indeed.. think he'll be trained on batting for the next 2 years, his endurance will go up at some stage, he's also a semi decent captain too!

yep you're definitely a luckbox!!

2 capable ( both 17) 1 reasonable ( also 17) with 1 17yo reliable in the 1st team, with 2 more capables and 2 more reasonables ( all but one under 22)

Have a 24 match winning streak with my senior team so have jumped to supporters blowing kisses :)

new team in 20/20 2moro, by worst 11 players more than doubles his ratings :)

I sold a 17yo average bowler for £5k last week. He'd be reasonable next season!

My problem is they are all medium pacers. Except the finger spinner!  ;frustrated;

Title: Re: from the pavillion - another cricket game
Post by: amcgrath1uk on April 07, 2008, 11:12:33 PM
I'm starting to get a good mix

top 5 in the seniors are 2 fast mediums, 1 medium, and 2 finger spinners

in my youth its mainly mediums too.. praying for a lovely fasy bowler!!

Title: Re: from the pavillion - another cricket game
Post by: Bongo on April 07, 2008, 11:14:47 PM
I have 2 reasonable FMs in my seniors, and an average 16yo FM in my youth (with old ball talent). Still need a quick or two and a wristy though!

Title: Re: from the pavillion - another cricket game
Post by: amcgrath1uk on April 07, 2008, 11:25:01 PM
not too worried about wristys... I have 5 finger spinners in my senior squad, and all take more than enough wickets ;)

I'm more concerned with my batting..2 capables 3 reasonables in my senior squad, just the 4 reasonables in my youths... so pulling batters every week at the mo!

Title: Re: from the pavillion - another cricket game
Post by: Bongo on April 07, 2008, 11:48:27 PM
My senior batting is pretty strong, less so in my youths but it isn't spectacularly weak, or a real cause for concern.

I would be pulling batters though, if I wasn't in the hunt for a decent fast bowler!

Title: Re: from the pavillion - another cricket game
Post by: amcgrath1uk on April 08, 2008, 01:46:25 PM
105 run win today with an 81k rating

opener got 107no from 61 deliveries, and is in red hot form (143no in last OD, think I'm being told not to rest him again haha) with 39no from 19 deliveries for my recent youth promotee

Only disappointments when bowling was not to bowl them out ( tho did get 9 wickets) and my spinner bowling consecutive no balls :s

Still top all 3 leagues.

Only have 2 games left to worry about. A 20/20 game which will decide the title, and a OD game vs 2nd ( tho I'm 4 points clear he has a better NRR)

yeah wasn't a bad over was it?

Title: Re: from the pavillion - another cricket game
Post by: Bongo on April 11, 2008, 12:13:39 AM
From my point of view it was a very good over!

Really dented your chances.

My reliable bowler did pretty poor considering the favourable conditions.

Have a bot bash tomorrow, i'm in a 3 way NRR race for first. Luckily my 4 games are against 3 bots and 5th place, whereas their run ins are harder (and they have to play each other... would love that to be a tie!)

Title: Re: from the pavillion - another cricket game
Post by: amcgrath1uk on April 11, 2008, 12:21:11 AM
Of course!! Its strange.. my 1st team is full of spinners, my youth isn't.. as I don't particularly NEED one I ain't looking either ( at least for another season or 2)

These are my capable's figures

D. McMenamin (lm)     8     0     49     2     6.12     2     0

which is a lil disappointing. He can probably be sold next year as my other capable is a much better prospect ( also faster which helps)

Title: Re: from the pavillion - another cricket game
Post by: Bongo on April 11, 2008, 12:31:55 AM
Well my reliable had the same figures and 2 less wickets!

My capable spinner didn't too much good either...

The reasonable one with the lowest tech did fine though  :dontask:

A win today.. quite exciting too

hit 216-3 in my 50, doesn't sound much, but on my crumbling pitch, its worth 300 or more on most pitches. My best bat scored 92no.

They reached 131-3 at half way, but managed to rip through them to bowl them out in the next 7 overs..

       Staples015     Hawkinge Express
Batting - Top Order:    4,426    4,090
Batting - Middle Order:    4,377    3,822
Batting - Tail:    2,494    3,224
Bowling - Seam:    4,893 (4)    3,279 (6)
Bowling - Spin:    5,283 (6)    4,444 (4)
Fielding/Keeping:    5,092    4,619
Overall:    83,605    73,902

Happy with the ratings too..1st v 2nd next week to decide the title...

Title: Re: from the pavillion - another cricket game

had a friendly today vs no 1 ranked in the country. Lost by just 3 wickets with 11 deliveries to go. if my star bowler and best 2 bats had performed, I would've sneaked it!

Dropped 10k in ratings :(

Title: Re: from the pavillion - another cricket game
Post by: amcgrath1uk on April 14, 2008, 12:06:38 AM
fair enough.. I was 6k below in ratings..

      Yorkshire Puddings     Staples015
Batting - Top Order:    4,583    4,504
Batting - Middle Order:    4,845    4,490
Batting - Tail:    4,176    2,736
Bowling - Seam:    4,594 (8)    4,806 (4)
Bowling - Spin:    5,319 (2)    5,358 (6)
Fielding/Keeping:    5,558    4,746
Overall:    90,609    84,108

i'm not too fussed about the lack of the tail..am focusing on my bowling and my top/middle order batting.. and just hoping I pull a keeper at some point.. but my current best batter in the youths ( at 17) is a skilled keeper and he's not too bad already so he might well be the answer in the future..

Title: Re: from the pavillion - another cricket game
Post by: Bongo on April 14, 2008, 12:15:47 AM
I have a capable bat/capable keeper in my youth team ;)

I think the ratings are skewed somewhat by the tail - it gets 60% of the points of the entire bowling line up!

At the moment I can bat to 11, and have another all rounder in my youth team. Will be interesting to sort that lot next season!

The Twenty20 title for my division is mine now.

My only rivals were Hungryasthesea, and I convincingly beat them today:

Beloved Ltd:         142 runs for 5 wickets off 20 overs
Hungryas the sea:  98  runs all out off 18.4 overs

I think they're going to take the youth title, which only leaves the decider for the one day to decide which of us gets the majority.

n1 Jon

I SHOULD win the OD league, I'm 4 points clear, play 2nd this week. Even if I lose, I have 2 very new teams to smash the following 2 weeks, and he has a hard game vs 3rd week after playing me

The 20/20 is going to be decided next week, 1st v 2nd

League promotion position1     Staples015     12     10     2     0     40     +1.9629     1326 / 192.4     1161 / 236.0
   2    Podges piglets    12    10    2    0    40    +1.7845    1611 / 223.2    1293 / 238.1

Youth league I should win 2moro, as I've got a huge NRR advantage over 2nd, with an 8 point lead.

Title: Re: from the pavillion - another cricket game
Post by: amcgrath1uk on April 16, 2008, 11:55:56 PM
nice easy win for my youth team today.

means barring miracles ( I'm up 8 points with 2 games left with a massive NRR advantage) I've won that league

Title: Re: from the pavillion - another cricket game
Post by: Bongo on April 17, 2008, 12:00:11 AM
Same for me, I have better NRR but if that comes into play I doubt it will stay better (as i'll have lost 2 games and oppo will have won 2).

Similar in 20 20, I'm 8 points clear of third (top 2 go up), 2 points behind 1st. Play 1st and 3rd in last 2 matches.

In 3 way tie on points in OD me ahead on NRR, but I have the easiest run in, 2 bots and the worst human team to play. 2nd and 3rd play each other last game of the season too, but again think it will be academic!

Trying out a strong team in 20:20 friendly tomorrow as I want to see what ratings I can get in that format. Thinking of trying a quick charge up to #1 in the world if poss ;)

Title: Re: from the pavillion - another cricket game

yeah it should be a good game.

obv strongest team out for me too, with some tweaks to the team, adding batting and changing my batting and bowling orders.

need to find some working orders for my best bowler, as I've tried loads without success.

Title: Re: from the pavillion - another cricket game

shiiipppp the OD title...

played my nearest competitors today, and handed them a smashing..

they batted 1st, on a flat pitch, ideal conditions for batting, and we bowled them out for 147!!!  My opener took 2 early wickets, tho expensive, but my spinners just ripped through them.

B. Lamb (rfs)     10     0     37     4     3.70     2     3
T. McBeath (rfs)    9    1    33    1    3.67    0    0
J. Holmes (rfs)    8.3    1    27    3    3.18    2    0

Pretty astonishing figures for a batting pitch too.. just wish Lamb would stop the no balls and wides.

In reply, knocked off the runs before the half way point, losing just 2 wickets in the process. Bonus was that I put my average keeper in as a pinch hitter, and he hit 71no from 62 deliveries, meaning I could play my stronger batters further down the order :)

Title: Re: from the pavillion - another cricket game
Post by: Bongo on April 18, 2008, 10:15:05 PM
I lost 7 wickets and just managed to limp over the line against a bot.

Flat pitch, all bats on normal, pretty much my strongest team - just had the all rounders in the tail to save fitness. All players were rested or revived too.

Don't know what they were playing at!

I'm hoping to have the best T20 ratings in the world tomorrow.

If I win I'm promoted!

Then I need to concentrate on OD, some how my easy run in has gone tits up.

I'm playing 5th who have got a lot better, my rivals are playing 3rd who have got a lot worse. Neverends!

Think I just about managed to get the best ratings... definitely secured promotion though!

Same again tomorrow, but without the best in the world bit (I can only hope!).

Asa - how are you planning on sustaining your academies once they get to the top? I'm confused, given how hard it is to make money in the game, how you can afford to spend so much!

I have started to hit it hard for the first 2 seasons, then rein it back slightly seeing as its not really doing too much. Last season I finished 2nd in all 3 divisions, which meant I had a fair bit of extra cash. I then sold, what on paper looked like an AWESOME youth player for 441k.. he was a batsman, but I have much better ones coming through ( and I didn't really need him).

I'm spending approx 70k on academies at the mo, and intend to spend somewhat less next season. It means I'll save a lot over the course of a season, meaning I don't  need to make as much from transfers, which won't be a problem. I have 2 17yo capable bowlers, one of whom WILL be sold next season.

It also helps having a winning team, my average weekly loss is about 40k at the mo, and with my team being a decent one in the league, it draws higher crowds etc.

Will definitely be selling off a couple of my older players at the end of this season, as I'm promoting my other 4 18yo's. I only have 3 slots to maintain top efficiency, so 3 will be going..all that helps :)

Title: Re: from the pavillion - another cricket game

I'm not exactly doing too badly on the winning front myself... :P

The thing is if you pull back your academy spending too much the levels will decrease. And then there's the extra wages next season that will need to be paid :(

My youth squad is pretty sick:
1 x reliable medium pacer
1 x capable finger spinner
1 x reasonable bat/reasonable bowl finger spinner
6 x reasonable medium pacers.

All medium pacers! Planning on training 3 of them to capable and then flogging them for cash, and keeping the best 3 to help my push for top ranked youth team in the world next season.

Lost today, but calculated I should have 5 bots in my 20 20 league next year. So hopefully I can gain easy promotion (top 2 go up I think), rest players and kick some arse in the cup and OD league! ;)

Also managed to acquire a wrist spinner yesterday, so shouldn't be so vulnerable on spinning pitches any more!

edit: got it wrong... 4 bots.

Comfortable win guaranteeing winning all 3 of my divisions :)

8k capacity crowd, and 82716 rating :)

Just need to find 1 bowler I think ( one of my promotees maybe ;) ) and I'll have a stunning bowling attack!

People want to play me too, but I left thursday free for a match in the LMS comp, only for him to arrange a match and so I'm playing him Sunday and high and dry for Thurs...

stunning win for my team today.

83k rating, and a near 8000 crowd put me in profit for the week!!!

Scored 422-4 with my opener getting 152, and then bowled them out for just 79 :)

Title: Re: from the pavillion - another cricket game
Post by: amcgrath1uk on May 03, 2008, 09:43:00 PM
nice one.. I'm nearly at 1m. Mainly thanks to my 8k stadium filling out, last week was the 1st week I'd made a profit ( except for weeks with player sales and prize money) so I'm pretty happy :)

After the 1st week of the season, I SHOULD see that I can continue with my academy investment without losing too much!

You've got a great price. Someone's looked at his rating and bought him based on that. i've just sold my worst capable youth bowler ( he has no secondaries to speak of) for 350k. Its crazy.

I listed him for 0.

Looking forward to selling the players I don't want at some point soon - 3 of them are capable already, should get me 500k+ each when they turn reliable and I sell!

Prodigy might even sneak to accomplished before I list him!

Best of luck mate ;)

Youth One Day:     #1 in Youth One Day 3.2
Ranking:    Country: 1 / 290. World: 5 / 1075

Woo! ;D

Makes up for sliding down the senior rankings! (extreme resting thanks to the cup!)

Senior Twenty20:     #3 in Twenty20 4.2

Must be leftover from last season!

It's based entirely on match ratings, not performance. So if you've promoted some good players you're likely to fall in the ratings.

My resting for the cup is now at its utmost... have got my senior academy to a bloody high level so have decided to take a small hit on the training % and now have 22 in my senior squad... should still win 20/20 and prob OD with my reserves... would like my youth team to demote.. and then promote next season for max cash ;)

You have 4 19yos who won't be getting any more training in the youth system, so I think others will improve faster than you and so your ranking will drop.

I have 2 reliable bowlers, a soon to be double reliable keeper bat (with decent tech and fielding!) and a soon to be double capable all rounder (with gifted bowling and finisher).

I'd be very surprised to not have 1 make the squad!

Looks like we're both through in the cup... it's getting difficult from here onwards!

I can't afford a slip up in the league either, so I imagine I will lose in the next couple of rounds...

Obv! ;)

Tough games start here (or rather did yesterday!)

I can't believe how well my bowlers did - first 20 overs were just carnage.

Can either of us go all the way? Good luck against Knights, he'll be a tough nut to crack! I know he's been getting advice from Rift, so maybe you should look at my game (on a crumbler) for some ideas of what he might do.

Title: Re: from the pavillion - another cricket game
Post by: amcgrath1uk on June 16, 2008, 09:55:58 PM
I look at all previous games when I'm playing hard opponents ;)

Definite crumbling pitch, pretty happy with my tactics...

Going to need luck certainly, hoping for Lamb to pop this week, and possibly ( tho I think he's a week or 2 off) Pamenter. Can go in with an all capable min bowling attack... just hope its enough.. and that I bowl 1st!!

You're game isn't going to be easy either!

Title: Re: from the pavillion - another cricket game
Post by: Bongo on June 17, 2008, 12:04:22 AM
My game is easier than last week!

My point was knights has been taking tips from rift, who I beat this week, so if you want to take a look then do so.

I think rift's bats were too aggressive, and know that knights had both openers on aggressive last week...

Title: Re: from the pavillion - another cricket game
Post by: amcgrath1uk on June 17, 2008, 12:17:44 AM
I tend to have my worse batsmen aggressive, so one of my openers, then if it gets to them, down the order as I bat to 10 now. Against stronger teams, I also play one batsmen on defensive to try and hold the innings together.

usually put all my best bats, ie 2-6 on normal, as they are good enough to play vs most.

I hope he does put a few on aggressive, as it plays into my hands with my bowling order. I know that a lot of teams play aggressively, ie go for max runs in 30-40th over, so I tend to play my best bowler and 2nd best spinner ( esp at home) and they tend to destroy teams or put the last 10 under so much pressure they fold going for silly runs in the last 10.

Think I may have also surprised a few teams with my near 93k rating ;)

I STILL have a player or 2 I could add to the team to get a higher rating if needs be ;)

Anything you can send me is good tho ;)

Title: Re: from the pavillion - another cricket game
Post by: Bongo on June 19, 2008, 11:50:56 PM
I enjoyed that!

My main point was attack early and you should pick up some wickets which is always good (aggressive openers) if you pick up more you can wrap the game up in the first 10. I guess Pamenter usually opens the bowling on attack though!

He does, and he comes back on before people expect him too as well. Stick in my highest tech bowler on the other end on defensive, as he bowls superbly on it. ( 10-3-16-2 last time, 10-2-21-0 game before, 10-1-28-2 the one before that)

I'm PRAYING I bowl first so I can chase. I won't have a single batsman on defensive either, with approx half the team on aggressive. Way I look at it is if one of them gets 70-80+ I should win...

Title: Re: from the pavillion - another cricket game

Title: Re: from the pavillion - another cricket game
Post by: amcgrath1uk on June 20, 2008, 12:26:36 AM
It does sound risky, but it actually isn't...

My nos 6-10 will all be on aggressive as usual, and my wk who opens will be too. My best 4 batsmen will be on normal..

Post by: amcgrath1uk on June 22, 2008, 11:16:18 PM

I'd say so yeah. You need to invest the average into an academy ( approx 19k youths, approx 16k senior) to get it to move towards satisfactory. The higher the academy, the quicker the pop times ( tho its not a huge difference) and with the youths, its more likely to get a better youth pull every week.

Both of my academies are at superior, my senior academy will probably pop as well soon, all financed by selling off good youths who wouldn't get anywhere near playing in my senior squad ;)

Title: Re: from the pavillion - another cricket game
Post by: vegaslover on July 08, 2008, 12:14:33 AM
Yeah I see there are a couple of levels before satisfactory, but I haven't moved up yet. If no joy next week will scrap funding the academy. be better off buying players with the money. All my YP are poor, wouldn't even play em in my youth team

Anyone fancy a 26 year old England bowler?

The bidding stands at £900,000, ends tomorrow at 1350.

Looking good for six figures, which would fund my training facilities for a good while.

Tempted, however already have 1 better bowler ( at 18) and 1 who has the same skill level, but not tech ( also 18) and both are rfm.

I need a class bat however

I have a rfm who is 19 and only a level behind (with skilled bowling too), and don't have that money on hand yet (multimillion pound sales coming soon! ;))

I'm also looking more for batsmen, as my bowling unit is starting to look pretty nice!

I have a crop of young bowlers who will overtake him next season. I figure that right now he's one of the better players in the game but that this time next season there will be many more better than him and much younger. For those reasons I'm cashing in now, while his value should be at it's highest at least in relative terms. That and I'm running low on funds, keeping the academies improving is expensive!

You got a hell of a lot for him, well done..

Don't think anyone could afford Pamenter if I sold him! Or at least, for how much I'd want for him!!

same here

my leagues are looking damn easy for next season. Pretty much guaranteed 12 wins in both leagues, with having 1 damn good opponent in both leagues, and 1 ok in my 20/20.

This week is going to be pretty sick. Best player out all week after hitting a big ton and then bowling in the cup. Decent team tomorrow in T20. Decent team weds in youth. #8 in England on Friday (My 2nd team should out rate them though... now that is sick) and then a cup match on Sunday.

I've got an easy 20/20 game, tho playing a strong team, semi decent youth team, and a BOT on Friday :)

Full strength for the cup :)

won't get that as they don't bat deep enough.

I reckon 85kish

Only have one all rounder in the side pulling 95k.

Then 2 ordinary bats and 2 poors. Hardly batting deep!

The all rounder is pretty nice though!

My line up is:

rel/cap ( + rel keep)
rel/cap ( +skilled tech)
cap/reas ( 17yo!)
cap/cap ( boundary hitter)
rel/cap ( finisher)
reas/reas ( skilled bat)
cap/cap/reas ( 1st teamer)
reas/reas/ord ( my project)
poor/accomp/reas
Pamenter
dread/rel/cap

not too bad

TBH I've found it quite tricky juggling all 4 balls and finances dictate a mid season sale at Pony Park.

So I won't cry too much in the likely event of defeat on Sunday.

How do you guys stay ahead financially? I invest quite a lot in my academies and survive by selling players, but I'm not sure this is sustainable without parting with prize assets as my wage bill rises. It might work out okay, but there does not seem to be that much money sloshing round.

This Week

Income                            Expenses

Gate Takings:   $19,888    Ground Maintenance:   $10,000
Sponsorship:   $65,630    Player Wages:         $100,114
Prizemoney:   $0            Academies:                  $136,000
Player Sales :   $127,627    Player Purchases :   $0
Player Sales:   $0            Player Purchases :   $0
                                    Transfer Listing Fees:   $3,000

Weekly Income:   $213,145    Weekly Expenses:   $249,114

Weekly Balance:   -$35,969    Overall Balance:          $166,498

Last Week

Income                          Expenses
Gate Takings:   $114,393    Ground Maintenance:   $8,000
Sponsorship:   $65,630    Player Wages:          $99,392
Prizemoney:   $0            Academies:            $136,000

Weekly Income:   $180,023    Weekly Expenses:   $243,392

Weekly Balance:   -$63,369    Overall Balance:   $202,467

My academies are at lavish/luxurious and my investment is the minimum required to keep them improving. The sale of Seymour kept me going through last season but the academy investment has increased a lot and I have no desire to keep selling my best players. I may well get by just selling my not quite so good players, but I'm just not sure if my business model is sound...

And I thought I spent a lot on my academies!!

I find superior acadmies are more than adequate, as the difference it makes up the next level is negligible. Saying that, on a good week, like last week, I broke even ( if it weren't for me expanding my stadium to 16k!)

What I did in terms of money is assess my squad in terms of age and quality.. ie batting wise the oldest I had was Reid at 25, meaning I could sell a youngster or 2 and not lose out

13 Oct 2008    Sold    Curtis Cula-Reid    The Gangsta's    $750,000
12 Oct 2008    Sold    Bruce Dickinson    The Highlanders    $1,200,000

Dickinson, at the time, was the 2nd highest skilled bowler I had behind Pamenter, but his secondaries were pretty low in comparison to another, younger bowler.

Oh, and play your best youths in the senior side, and whatever's left, put in the youths. Means you may lose a few more youth games, but the added experience will come in invaluable at a later date ( seeing how experience seems to be mega important in this game)

I pretty much operate in the way you describe, I have plenty of valuable players so there's no danger of going skint, It's just I'd prefer to keep as many as possible!

I suppose I'm just paying the price for not really giving the game enough attention in the first couple of seasons...

must say I didn't until past halfway in the 1st season.. just wonder how many of my 20yo's would be even better!!

Wilcocks is a very nice player, esp with being an LFM.. won't get in my 1st team, and would JUST sneak into my 2nd...

I only lost 7k last week and that was with a 50k (money) stadium expansion.

I'm also lucky that I have most of my home games in the second half of the season so should get better attendances from them.

It seems to me your problem is your academy spending, so you can either sell to keep it up or lower your spending in that area.

Your wages are around the same level as mine too, so you must have some good players.

I think you really need to concentrate on getting promoted as that will bring you more money from sponsorship and gate receipts.

Good luck against Jeanz - he knocked me out in the quarter finals 2 seasons ago!

Neither are BRC and they have 4 points on me in the league... which is the only thing left for him to win.

If I lose to revolution I should be able to recover enough fatigue in the week to have a decent shot at BRC, but if I don't it seems better to concentrate on the cup.

I think that's the worst batting effort I've ever seen from my team, bar Peters and Symonds (he will be awesome soon!).

It's not just the loss of wickets but a bat on normal scoring 6 from 36 balls (s/r 16) and then getting out.

Still don't think Green would have been the right pitch though!

Now get out there and win me a kite! ;)

Yeah definitely. Who are these players?

If they play in actual U19 or NAT games, rather than friendlies, they get a decent exp boost!

Just mixing things up, looking at as many players as I can ;)
no probs, was only joking
surprised they got a game as there are better players in the squad.
Have a couple in my youths who may be future contenders for U19

One of my assistants is compiling lists of 16yo's for the next U19 manager. I think the season 11 WC ( 3 seasons time), the English u19 team is going to be montrous looking at some of the 16yo's we're getting.

I don't always look at just primary/tech btw, the best performing player at the last WC for us was the best balanced player in the squad!

Have noticed that my youth pulls have been mostly 16yr olds lately, and pretty good too, compared to last few seasons.

The difference is that McKenzie is 18, so he'll have another season and a half training before the next U19 WC. Obv your current 19yo's will be too old to play in the WC. Forward planning ;)

I've never taken that much notice of FTP until I got players picked for the U19.
Whats a good amount to be putting into the academy every week? I currently put £22k into youths, and zero into seniors
Have £2.3m in the bank

lol fair enough

I did have a fair bit until I spent 2.6m on a player ;)

Errrr I put about 104k a week into mine, slightly more into youths than seniors. But I choose to run at a loss each week, selling off players and prize money to thrive. Seemed to work so far!

Fairly sure Bongo has a fair bit of cash.

I never seem to get much when I sell players. Got 30k for a cap cap. Usually only get a k or 2 for YPs.

I usually lose a few k each week, balance increase comes via prize money

Used to put 35k into youth and 20k into senior. Academy level stayed same as is now for youths and although seniors academy went up training performance/pops didn't so scrapped it.

to make ANY money you need to train up to exp/exp at the least I've found.

Training is scarce in this game so it doesn't make any money (unless you have an awesome academy - but even then I would imagine the costs outweigh the gain in value).

I have a fair chunk of cash, but I'm sitting on it while I try and figure out what a sustainable level of wages will be.

I've started to scale down my spend levels on academies. Want them to drop the same amount as my wages rise next season. Its gonna be painful.

Think I need to sell a player or 2 as I'm expecting a big name or 2 to be leaving, hence their players will be available if they get sold.

I've made a profit this season (so far, but prizemoney should keep it up) so it's not so much of an issue for me.

All I really need is a young(ish) seam all rounder as McAndrew is starting to get a bit old.

New site layout for this    -   Personally I don't like it, what do others think

I think I won all 3 div 1 titles in England this season.

Not a fan of the light blue but options to change colour will come soon.

Otherwise mostly positive once you've set preference back to grid layout.

What don't you like?

Couldn't get on with From The Pavilion at all.  A few of us still play Battrick though.

Same as sheriff, I used to play it but forgot about it and my team got booted.

Was never as smooth as battrick though. I always had odd results too, losing games I should win and vice versa

Very old bump but Asa and I are still playing this and always on the lookout for new players.

For those still here that did play in the early days, some sad news. Ashario (Matt Krevs), the designer of the game, passed away last year due to cancer. Another player bought the game from Matt's estate and has kept it running with a new management team. It still looks the same but a lot of changes have happened/are happening over the next few seasons, most seem to be of the good so I'd recommend giving it another shot if it's still your thing.
