Title: Bluesq.com GUKPT Grand Final: Day 1B - Interactive
Post by: NoflopsHomer on November 30, 2007, 12:27:30 AM
The second Day one should see an increase in numbers, we're expecting to be over 100 and possibly a few scandies to turn up. Also, the remaining GUKPT champions, Praz Bansi, Michael Greco, Julian Thew, Leo Kam, Paul Bracken, Jerome Bradpiece and Dave Clarke are all expected to play. Will one of these be the winner to become the first two-title champion or will a dark horse or some random mateyboy shock us by beating all the usual suspects?

Play restarts at 1.30pm so come and rejoin our triumvirate then for another jam-filled day of updates.

Afternoon folks, for once I am first to something, even if it is only the first blondite in the press room.  Soooo its all about the KP is it today??  Awsome, can't wait to see how he fairs so of course we shall follow his progress with great expectation - no pressure mate!

Alright, we should be kicking off at 1.30pm again today but we may overun a little, I'll head dowstairs and see who I can bump into and generally annoy.

Ok have arrived despite Snoops trying to bokk our train by suggesting how annoying it would be for the train to stop just before the Edgeware road branch.

Two big questions for today:

How many times will KingPoker get his money in ahead?

How many players will KingPoker bust getting it all-in preflop and being stupidly far behind?

I'm going for 0 and 2.

Yoohoo, I've arrived, although this time without the added nutritional boost of a pre-update MacDonalds due to the forever slow tube service. "My apologies, ladies and gentleman, but there is going to be a slight delay," announces the monotone voice of the train driver. "It looks like the problems are at..." wait for it.... "Edgware Road." Woohooo. No, hold on, that's our stop. Crap!!! Why's it always the one you're going to?? As you might have detected, I'm not a big fan of the tube, whose prices seem to rise on every visit! Not sure how they manage that though, after all, they've even started announcing when they have "good services" instead of bad, as if we should be thankful.  ;tracet;

Anyhow, back to the poker, and judging by the overnight chip counts, Maz Nawab will be a happy man, not just because he has the chippy lead, but also because he has earned himself a free seat in next year's final for achieving that accolade. If Stuart Fox had nicked the blinds one last time, then he would have taken that honour, I just don't think he was aware of that fact.

Whilst yesterday had Romanello, Foxy and Grundy raising and re-raising like there's no tomorrow, today could be equally aggressive, if only for the presence of the Welsh Weirdo and recent APAT victor Gareth 'King Poker Ower'. Also putting in an appearance today will be the likes of Julian Thew, the Yoyo Master keen to hit big after what has been a very poor run indeed. Hopefully today will see him finally return to form.

Aah, Mr Murrell, he's in pretty good form at the moment, might be a dark horse today. Do you know much about him, I've only met him a couple of times? He reminds me of someone, I think it might be that high jumper back in the day, can't remember his name, Smith was it?

Milling around downstairs I bumped into a friend of mine from way back from my home town of Grantham.  His name is Steve Mitchell and a big Ladbrokes tournament multitabler.  He hasn't played a huge amount of live tournaments although he did qualify for the WSOP 2 years in a row and the Cruise a couple of times and everything else that you can qualify for on Laddies.

We were just remeniscing about our past lives pre poker and both were in agreement that we have no idea where we would be in life without poker.  Its like a saviour to us both to work at something that you enjoy 100% rather than working just to reach the weekend.  Happy Days, good luck Steve..

Julian (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=225) Thew (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=225) and Mark (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=264) Herron (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=264) are both OUT.

Julian had already been knocked down to just 3,500 by Mark Friedman, previously. All three got their money in on the turn of an 8-5-A-4-x board with Julian holding A-K, Herron holding 8-8 and Friedman with nut-making 7-6. Maria has gone off to see if she can find more details on a pretty shocking early exit.

Here's the table just as they were starting, Friedman is in the white with his back to us whilst Herron is in Seat 8 in between Dan Owston and Ian (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=171) Cox (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=171).

As I ventured into the cardroom, I noticed a number of recognisable faces, probably more so than the day prior. As a bemused Liam Flood looks on, a butter-wouldn't-melt-in-his-mouth Sid Harris fiddles with his chips in the seat opposite. A table or two beyond lies a confident as always Michael Greco, donning the now trademark Aussie Millions cap and un Beppe like stubble. He's sharing a table with a red-headed Kevin O'Leary, the rainbow haired warrior in confident mood after not only winning the heads up event earlier in the week, but also the less populated £1,500 freezeout for 20 big ones. Also spotted were the likes of Jeff Kimber (grinning mischievously as ever), a focused Richard Gryko (oversized headphones firmly locked on head) and a fatigued Keith Hawkins (the child-caring duties perhaps finally catching up with him). For a moment, as I scythed through the sea of poker fanatics like a knife through butter, I felt like David Attenborough, prudently scouring the arena in search of any creature of interest.

Hina & Raj (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=799) Modha (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=799), a wonderful couple and Hina clearly the poker player in the family.  She was telling me how she bashes up Raj in home games and ended up beating him heads up the other day with 8 2!

Speaking of Mr Modha, his more aesthetically pleasing other half might have to cancel that order for a new air of shoes as Raj has been dented early doors, last seen betting out on a 3c 8h Qc 8c Ac board. I couldn't quite see what chips he'd thrown out, but the pot looked pretty meaty for a level one hand. Either way, a pensive Edward Cahill called with Queens, only for Raj to turn over a defeated pair of Jacks. Edward looked dejected that he hadn't shoved in the re-raise that justified the long dwell, but I expect it was academic.

Just to confirm this, Julian had bet the flop and Mark Herron had set him but this meant Friedman was able to come into the pot as well and catch his straight on the turn which was where the rest of the money went in.

Mr Valentino Michael Artemis has suffered a similar hit, this time against fellow bald header Norman Gold. The board read 4s 3c 9h 5h, and it was Artemis leading the way with a 2k bet. Gold took a vacation to thinktankville before calling, and subsequently checking down a Jh River. Artemis looked reluctant to show his hand first, which is never a positive sign, and waited patiently for Gold to reveal his Qs Qc. A gentle nod of apporval from Artemis meant that the hand went to Gold, the older of the two tapping the table firmly as if to say, "ship it to the Goldster" (I doubt he ever calls himself that, though, even in his head).

Joe Koumi flopped top set. KP had Ten high. You don't need to guess what happened next...

Ok it wasn't that bad, the board read Aspades Jh 9h and Joe had Ahrt Ac, with KP holding Th 8h and all the chips went in, the turn was the 2h meaning luckbox Gareth had to avoid another heart to scoop a huge pot, which he duly did when the river was the 5c knocking Joe out.

Bugger me sideways, if you'd told me a several years back, whilst I was nonchalantly watching Beppe and his finely trimmed beard in Eastenders, that I'd be having the following conversation of surreality with TV's own Michael (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=279) Greco (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=279), I would have told you to quit the whack backy and stop yanking my chain.

"Hello, young Michael," say I.

"How do you do, snoops," he responds.

"Agado?" I joke, leaning over his i-pod.

"No, I said how do you do," he replies bemused.

"I mean on your ipod," I clarify. "I didn't realise you were a Black Lace fan. Have you got the Congo too like me?"

"No, don't think so." He scours through his menu. "Abba, Atomic Kitten..."

"Is it the old stuff or the new songs?" I probe.

"The old stuff."

"Ah good, that was the classic Kitten material."

"Do you have the Eastenders theme tune on there?" I non-reluctantly ask.

"Yeah, I listen to it all the time," he jokes. "Self pleasure (he didn't quite use that term) myself to every day."

At that point, I thought it best to leave and hope he was joking.  :o

As Mad Marty makes his presence known behind me by exclaiming, "Oy, oy, you've come to play with Mad Marty!", Irishman Dave Callagan is spotted on one of the side tables, quietly grinding away in that quiet, calculated and perhaps unIrish-like fashion that we've become accustomed to.

Not to be confused with former EPT finalist Dave O'Callaghan, the O-less Irishman is one of his homeland's rising stars, playing some of the biggest Omaha cash game around. As a cash player first and foremost, today is a rare visit to the tournament felt, but one which should show his prowess nonethless.

One to watch out for predicts Mystic Beagle. ;snoopy;

... although I hear there are some sharks hovering around his table.

For some unknown reason, it seems to be Floppy and Chili who are attracting the big pots, with little old me forced to settle with long drawn out hands that never amount to anything. One of those encounters that appeared to fizz out just because I was watching was between Luton GUKPT victor Dave Clark and stripy unknown Jean-Luc Belin. A 2h 3d Qh 7c 3h board lay on the felt and it was up to the Clarkster, Jean Luc Picard having beamed out a 1.5k River bet.

What made me chuckle about this hand was the reaction of the players, all of whom became increasingly restless the longer Dave Clark took to make his decision. Liam Flood huffed and puffed under his breath, Sid Harris raised his eyebrows and glanced up to the heavens and Warren Wooldrdge squirmed in his seat. Dave Clark, who seemed unfazed by the obvious impatience of the table, many of whom I'm sure were tempted to risk looking rude and calling for the clock, did eventually fold allowed Jean-Luc to lap up the pot.

Does anyone know if bloggers are entitled the clock?

Veteran Patrick McCloskey is teaching the kids a few tricks, keeping his more youthful opponents guessing with a 2k bet on a Kh 8c Jd Ahrt 4h board. Luke Trotman (pictured) was the man who reluctantly folded, but he was willing to confidently guess his foe's hand, saying, "Must be Ace King, yeah?" as he passed. Wily old Patrick refused to answer, but this didn't stop everyone continuing to guess, A-Q seemingly the most popular response. Finally, Patrick confesses, "I had an Ace." No kicker though, so it looks like he's keeping his cards close to his chest.

London Winner, Blackpool Finalist and generally Canadian, Leo Kam is OUT. His last 6k going in with Queens but going out to Martyn (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=270) Cavanagh (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=270)'s Kings.

Albert Sapiano is missing hitting the backdoor draws on the turn that he calls for on the flop and is down to only around 4k.

Nik (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=314) Persaud (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=314) is cursing his luck having defended from the blinds with 2c 5h, flopping a straight on a 6d 4d 3c board against Hurol Bekir and getting his whole stack in against the drawtastic Ad 5d, only for him to add two pair along with his straight, resulting in a 4-6-3-5-2 board and a chop chop.

;kc;

King Poker just paid off 2k on the river to Ben (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=47) Vinson (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=47) on a Qd 5s Ad 7h 6s board.

Anything that makes the updaters job easier I am all for, the clock, I have to say is pretty awesome but players taking the notepad off me and writing a hand out that is currently in progress is just shear laziness on my part.

The funniest part is Michael Muldoon writing out the preflop action on his table in a hand between Jason Medley & John Fletcher inclusive of the hands he THINKS both players are holding.  The action had reached the turn and which was checkraised for 8k by Meds and had Fletcher dwelling for a while.  This induced Muldoon to write a big "FOLDS" on my pad in a big circle.  Good skills Muldoon, Fletcher folds with neither player declaring their hands.

Martin (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=269) Green (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=269), who came close to scoring big in the Dublin EPT recently, seems to have remained in confident mood. He's pretty much got his starting stack, although he did lose a bit to "this woman who's only played 2 hands so far" - aka Mrs Stephen (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=804) Holden (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=804), real name Andrea Gough. "I'm 99% sure I know what she had," claims the Liverpudlian. "She's limps behind another limpe before re-raising my raise with middle pair. She must have Aces?" I suggested that it was odd to be limping in middle position after someone else has limped and that perhaps with a poker player for a husband, she has a few tricks up her sleeve and knows that everyone will put her on a monster whenever she makes a move, but Green remained adamant that she was mega-strong.

In fact, Steve Holden was passing at the time, so I had to mouth "husband" (although they're actually just boyfriend and girlfriend {propose! - ahem}) to Mr Green just in case he said something like, "Yeah, that woman really sucks, she's plays like a moron." Luckily he is more mild mannered than that.

In other anecdotal news, we have a Brucie bonus from a former GUKPT finalist, Chris Bruce luring me over and declaring, "I was involved in an interesting hand, snoops." "I raised it up to 300," he continued eagerly, "and was called by the big blind. The Flop came 4s-6d-7s and he bet out 500. I made it 1,500 and he called. The Turn was a 5s and Mateyboy pushed all-in for 6k." He leans back on his chair. "I folded in the end. He showed the Ace of spades and claimed he had the flush, but I think I had him beat. What do you think he had, snoops?"

With my thinking cap glued to my out I respond, "Er... well, I guess if he said he had it, then there's a good chance he did, but if not, I suppose A-8 would be a likely holding."

What do you reckon, did he have the flush. What else could he have had? Surely not a set.

There's a tough table near the door, Ashley (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=39) Hayles (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=39), Praz (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=353) Bansi (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=353), Keith (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=229) Hawkins (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=229) and Ladbrokes Poker Million winner Raj (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=799) Modha (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=799) all locking horns. Joining that motley crew of eclecticism is the leather clad lad (hey, that rhymes!) pictured below, Hurol Bekir. I've never come across him before, so, as with most of our pictures, if you recognise him, feel free to tell us a bit more about who he is and how he came to play in this event.

As I left, The Bear [Hayles] had his glare firmly locked on Raj (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=799) Modha (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=799), the Londoner betting 3.1k on a board of 8s 2d 7s 4c Qc. "I'm winning," declares Raj. "I think you're ahead. I'm pretty sure you're winning," responds The Bear. On that note, Raj changes his mind and opts for the fold.

Jason DeFreitas bets 800 on a Qd 8d Tc board, Steve Jelinek c/raises to 2,100. DeFreitas makes it 11,000 and it's all too much for Jelinek who mucks showing the Ts.

A few hands earlier however Jelinek took a fare amount of Chris Bruce's chips. Bruce limped UTG with Aces as did Jelinek and a few others, the flop came 7-3-2. One guy bet 500, Bruce called, as did Jelinek, the turn was a King. First player checked, Bruce bet 1200, Jelinek made it 2,500 and Bruce was the only caller, but both checked the 8c river which brought a possible flush. Jelinek showed a set of Threes.

An outbreak of Tobey Maguire-itis on Table 1, as many of the players don't really look like they want a photo taken. One of these, Ronald Seymour, in seat 3, is now OUT. His nickname is 'Shaft' but I think he looks more like Frost from the classic film 'From Dusk Till Dawn'.

"Come on, Sex Machine!"

Finally, here's Andrew Feldman folding to Brian Johnson's 1.5k bet on a 6s Kc Td board.

Paul Bracken is down to just 4k after tangling with (1) Anna Kournikova and (2) Phil Curtis, the latter, who, incidentally, is pictured below, possibly being the less desirable tangles of the two. It was a relatively straight forward hand in the end, the Blackpool GUKPT winner calling opponent Curtis' all-in on the Turn of a 2c Kh 8d Jd board. Bracken had Aspades Ks, but found himself in all sorts of trouble to Curtis' 2d 2c. An academic 7h hit the River leaving Curtis to rake in a timely double up.

Marc Inizan has been caught with his pants down, Joshua Tyler (pictured) the man approaching from behind. With a board of 5c 9c 4s 7d Ts Marc had Kc Qs, but came up a cropper against Joshua's Jc Js. I believe Marc tried to muck his hand, but either a player or the dealer made him turn it over.

Michael Bale is down to shrapnel, and by now, quite possibly out. He was virtually all-in against neighbour Mark Gray with Tens v Kings on a 6-9-9 Flop. The Ace Turn and Three River made no difference giving Gray the pot.

Lucky Bale uses Right Guard, although we didn't check the cardroom for dead squirrels.

Hi
The 1st pic is Tommy, a regular cash games player at the Vic. A real nice guy and also a bit of a loony. I don't  think the money is of any interest to him, he just likes to play. As he has absolutely no fear of going broke, he could be very dangerous with chips.

Meanwhile, Mike (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=287) Ellis (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=287) was last spotted re-re-raising Ben (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=47) Vinson (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=47). Mike made a standard raise pre-flop and in late position, Ben said 2.3k to play only for Mike to up the ante to 6.3k. Ben folded allowing Mike to take the pot uncontested. Vinson still has 13k though.

Predicted to be half way up the motorway now after being knocked down to the felt, Michael Bale is now back up to the dizzy, nose-bleeding heights of 7k after a Jacks v Tens encounter versus Jeff Kimber. A non-Ten board leaves Jeff with a face like a smacked bottom, but a stack of around 15k, so no need to panic.

Hit Squad update:

Praz made a raise with  Kc Kh and was just called by Ian Grier.  The flop is an unmenacing

9h 6c 3d  Grier check raised an 800 bet by Praz to the tune of 2k, Praz called.

Turn  Ts  Which resulted in an allin push for 8k from Grier.  Praz with 18k still left behind does make a great pass, presserving his stack and is rewarded with Grier showing him  Td Tc for the turned set.  I don't know how many times Praz has ran into sets or over sets and still remains in the tournaments lately.  He is more likely to go out with 8 2 though.

On the Karlos M front, he is doing fine on 13,000.

One table down, Raj Modha has taken a big hit courtesy of neighbour Edward Cahill whose Pocket Kings had Raj's Queens dominated. "I feel better now," admits Edward. Raj didn't seem too eager to congratulate him though and is now to 7k.

Dan Owston just doubled up through Shane Eastland, he was hold  9d 9h on a board like

 5c 3h 3d

Dan bet 1,200, Shane made it 3k, Dan made it 6k and Shane went all in for a further 7k.    This put Dan in the tank, but did call to an immediate "good call" from Eastland.  Shane turned over  5c 6c..

Owston's 9's stood and he doubled up to 24,000.

All hail 'One Hand' Rumit, the only person in history to have sprained his arm and ended up in a sling after falling over a speed hump. No running, no alchohol - just a simple trip. Those sleeping policeman sure are dangerous.

In the meantime, check out that Rubik's Cube. 2 options. (1) It shrunk in the wash or (2) It's an original that has been used so much that it's been grinded down to a mini-cube.

We were actually trying to work out between us whether the mini-Rubik's Cube was harder or easier than the original. Whilst I suggested the small one might be easier because of the shorter distance between block (and therefore a quicker turning process), Rumit disagreed claiming that it was simply to fiddly.

Hmm, food for thought.

Funnilly, I saw an Alberto Sapiano limp UTG, followed by two more, then Karlos (I think that should catch on) made it 600 from the small blind, obviously as a pot builder which was duly called by all other players putting 3k into the pot. The K-J-T-T-2 was checked all the way down and Albert's Jh 6h was good. (No snickering at the back - it was soooted).

Not sure if this got to Karlos, but he looked to be gurning non-stop for the next five minutes.

Earlier today Rumit Somaiya was trying to convince Davijay Sadarangani (a big name if ever I saw it) that the tickets people were getting, (that Jon Raab uses to do the chip counts), were actually part of a tombola raffle to win a big prize. Apparently he was totally convinced.

He left 'the ticket' behind though when he was busted sadly, Rumit raised, Davijay called in the small blind and Jerome Bradpiece called in the big with 6-4o. The flop came 7-5-3 rainbow, Rumit moved in, Davijay made it 4k and Jerome called, and then called Davijay's all-in on the brick turn. Davijay's Aces had been slowplayed at the wrong time and Jerome won a healthy side pot. But Rumit survived when the river brought a third heart to add to the two in his hand for the 10k main pot.

As you can see, Warren Wooldridge is now in the chair.

Richard Ashby has doubled through Kevin O'Leary.

Ian Cox lost a small chunk flat-calling all the way with Q-J on a Q-Q-7-4-3 board against the big blind who had flopped the house with Q-7.

Sid Harris bets out 2,500 on a 9h Jc 4h board, but Liam Flood (I believe he's "Liam Flood" on blonde) made it 7k to elicit a quick fold from the diet book author.

Chip leader Mark Friedman appears to be an aggressive chap, he just bet 25k into a 1k pot and a board of 9c 3c Kh Ts. Ian Cox was the man giving it the Hollywood. "Nothing to see here," announces Dan Owston positive Cox was folding. "The thing is, I'm sure I'm in front, that's the annoying thing" claims Coxy. "Oh come one," continues Owston, "the clocks running down." Moments later Coxy does indeed fold, leaving Friedman to add, "I promise you made a good fold, buddy."

Scott O'Reilly raised under the gun and his neighbour Willie Tann appeared to like his hand enough to put in a reraise of 2,000.  O'Reilly prefered his and went all in for around 9,000.  Willie in his characterstic, shoulders hunched, alseep look dwelled a while so O'Reilly took the chance to convince Willie he had Aces by reminding that he had raised UTG.

By accident I just happened to glance upon Willie's cards as he showed himself the Jacks again before passing...He is class Mr Tann.

Meanwhile on table Thespian, these two were having a good old east end chin wag and probably didn't want me shoving a camera in their way and zapping them, but I did:

The table in the corner is rife with banter, the main culprit being Joshua Tyler (no relation to ol' sphere head). The last hand I witnessed on the table actually involved someone rather more reserved in Ben Roberts, who, after some pre-flop action, saw a Jh 5h Ts Flop with Antony Eden. Both checked the Flop only for Mr Roberts to bet out 1.6k on the Th Turn. Eden quickly called allowing the dealer to pop out a Qs River, which led to a Roberts check, a 2.6k bet from Eden followed by a fold by Roberts, who, I might add, held a lowly pair of deuces. "You hit that sick gutshot, didn't you?" prodded Tyler. Eden smiled mischievously and revealed Ahrt Ks.

Table 1, which I had previously referred to as a table of Tobey Maguire-ites, all scared of having their photos taken, has taken on a new dynamic thanks to one of the chip leaders Mark Friedman. Mark limps from the small blind and the big blind checks, the board comes 2c 9h Kd and they both check, 9c on the turn, Mark checks, the big blind bets 500 into the 600 pot. Mark makes it 10k. The big blind decides to fold.

According to Dan Owston, he's being doing this a lot and the players on this table have turned into Vladimir and Estragon and are waiting.

Albert Sapiano is OUT, with AA vs KQ.

Chris Bruce has trebled up, hitting a straight flush with 3c 5c against Dave Clarke. He then eliminated Clarke with 4-4 vs Q-Q on a 9-8-4 board.

Finally, this is Norman Gold. Errr, I'm not sure what else to add.

Norman's a London black cab driver, regular in the Vic, Luton and such like

Possessor of the most fearsomely loud shuffle known to man. It scares off nesting birds up to three miles away

Evening all! Lovely updates, the three of you. Please wish luck to Mr Nik Persaud from me and Jen, largely because we found this photo:

Meanwhile you'll no doubt be interested to know that the one remaining decent singer has been voted off the X Factor. Farce.

woo - finally got 5 minutes to get on here.  Best of luck to KP.  To all the shirt-bashers, leave off - I picked that one out for him.  I'm sure you won't be too surprised if I say it was the best of the ones I was given to choose from.....

An interesting hand just unraveled between Lee (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1222) Atherton (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1222) and Allan Rudge (although it was hard to see the latter's ticket, so I can't confirm 100%). Anyhow, with both players stumbling across and checking a Th 9h Kh Flop, Rudge bet out 700 on the 3d Turn before calling the 2k re-raise from Atherton. An Ahrt on the River led to a check from both players, with Rudge seemingly anguished to see his Ts 9s being Rivered by the Ad Tc of Atherton.

KP is KingPoker on blonde or sometimes uses the alias Gareth Ower.  He is the European APAT Champion and therefore qualified for this event by winning that!

Chris Bruce is down a large amount of chips fter having Ac 7s on a 6c 7c 9c Aspades board but running into Qc Jc for a 32k pot. He's since gone OUT.

Jeff Kimber is OUT. Brian Johnson was on ubertilt apparently and came out betting 3.5k into a 2.5k pot on a T-3-2 two club flop. Jeff made it 10k with Aspades Ts with 17k back and Brian decided to set him all-in with Ac Jc and caught a club.

Van Hoang just fired three bullets at a 9c 9h Jh Kc 7c board against Richard Gryko, the latter calling the 2,500 flop and 4,800 turn bets, but sighing and giving up on the 7k river.

Paul 'Muzza' Murrell -- 14k

Jerome Bradpiece, better than Vicky Coren at Sudoku it would seem.

Chris Bruce is OUT

The serial satalite qualifier has looked frustrated most of the day and things haven't appeared to go his way.  Faced with a limper UTG, Chris in the cut off pushed all in for 4,500.  Jean Luc-Belin asked how much, then called quite quickly so the limper passed  On their backs:

Chris Bruce   Qs Qh
Jean Luc   Kc Tc

First card out was a KING to produce a sigh from Chris and a "see you later."  Unlucky Chris.

It may be cool and fresh up here in the press room, but down in the cardroom I'm sweating like a monkey's bum on a treadmill. One man who will be hot at the moment is Jeff (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=195) Kimber (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=195), but that's due to his recent encounters with Brian (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=489) Johnson (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=489) as opposed to the temperature of the room. Two hands produced the demise of Jaffacake, the first one actually resulting in momentary triumph as his 3,500 River bet on a 6c 4d 9d Jh Kc board was called by Brian. Jeff showed Pocket Jacks, leaving Brian to muck with a mixed look of disgruntlement and severe frustration.

It's difficult to tell if their previous confrontation played a part in the next hand, but soon after, they were locking horns again, all the chips flying in on a 4h Tc 7c Flop. Brian bet 3,000, Jeff made it 10k and Brian announced all-in. Jeff called quicker than a cheetah on a bullet train and showed Aspades Ts, confident that it was in front. And he was right to feel good about his hand, as Brian was forced to flip an inferior, but highly dangerous Ac Jc.

The Turn was a cruel blow for Jeff, however, the dealer flicking out a hand-ending 2c. An academic Qd River and it was all done and dusted, the only act left to complete being the counting of stacks. Moments later, Jeff was informed that he was out-chipped, leaving the World Heads Up Champion to rise from his seat, his chest beating short and fast as he tried to compose himself after losing such a vast pot and trundle off down the other end of the cardroom.

Don't tell Floppy, but twice today I've banged the camera as I've left the pressroom. I'm trying to be more careful, but it goes all swingy when I hang it from my shoulder. It gives me a momentary panic attack, and I'm reluctant to look for damage, just in case I find that it's split in half or something. It's like when you hurt your foot, yet you're scared to take your sock off in case your bones are sticking out. Again, hush hush please, an angry Floppy is a dangerous floppy.

The trick is to hang it around your neck, so all it can hit is soft, yielding beagle flesh, instead of hard, unyielding wall.

What's a bonde?

Joshua Tyler is wearing a menacing face at the moment, two hands seeing his stack drop down to just 9k after a promising start. After he doubled up Antony Eden with A-Q versus K-Q all-in before a 5-8-J-4-K board (a firm bang of the table reflected his fury), he then called a chunky River bet from Sami Mahmoud on a Qc-Jc-7h-Ah-5h board only to be shown the rather frightful sight of an Ac 8c for top pair.

Table 1, which I had previously referred to as a table of Tobey (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1136) Maguire (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1136)-ites, all scared of having their photos taken, has taken on a new dynamic thanks to one of the chip leaders Mark Friedman.

Chris (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=65) Bruce (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=65) has trebled up, hitting a straight flush with 3c 5c against Dave Clarke. He then eliminated Clarke with 4-4 vs Q-Q on a 9-8-4 board.

Finally, this is Norman Gold. Errr, I'm not sure what else to add.

The guy with the curly dark hair is Matt Novak from Canada - he got knocked out early in the Vic 1k heat set over set. Very nice guy and a good card player. Wish him luck from me

Greg (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=560) Howard (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=560)

Does he know you? I don't want to come across as a mentalist.  :)

There is a very fiery old man who is winding up all the bloggers (including me!)  He is demanding to see our notebooks to see what we are scribbling, he practically took mine off me and read it.  Then when I was trying to count Rihcard Gyrko's stack he put his hand in front of Richard's chips so I couldn't count it, ranting "why do you need to know how many he has, its gonna change!"  Bless him, he clearly is not getting the idea of Internet poker updating..

He is called Norman Rad so if anyone knows him, please could you tell him to chill out - possibly by pigeon carrier or smoke signals maybe......

I believe massage fees are dependent on what you want to donate as all monies go to chairty. Most players offer a pound a minute though, although I tend to get them for free because it's a good chance for them to get a quick feel of the guns. Sometimes I charge them, but I'm a generous man so it's normally a freebie.

30k now.

Currently on 23,425 and no where near as hairy as he was last time I saw him in a tournament!

Michael Muldoon has just won an uberpot...

;bp;

He held A-A vs Jerome Bradpiece's K-K and a short-stacks Q-J and it held on to put him over 30k.

The Camel is going along nicely raises to 2k preflop and gets one caller in Matt Novak.

Both check the Ac 4s 9c flop before Novak check/raises Camel's bet of 2,500 to 6,000. Camel quickly calls.

They both check the 7s river and Novak shows 7c 6c which is good.

Chili took this photo of Richard Wheatly simply because she admired his wonderful stack.

Meanwhile, I commented that the shape of his pyramid stack was reminiscent of his actual body shape. I wondered if there was any such correlation in poker. Does Phil (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1115) Gordon (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1115) always stack his chips in one tall gangly tower, doe Freddie (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=834) Deeb (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=834) go for a short stumpy stack. Hmm, the mind boggles.

It's a bit like how pets can look like their owners I guess. For example, here's a picture of Dana and Jen's pets back in Hampstead.

Double up for Kevin Jenkins!... although it was called reluctantly Keith Hawkins.

"Do you want a call," asks Keith chuckling.

"Yes!" answers Kevin abruptly.

"I do," adds Dave Barnes.

"Will you say nice hand, shake my hand and so on if I beat you?" asks Keith nervously.

"Of course I will," replies Kevin.

Rather red-faced, Keith makes the call (for what was virtually shrapnel is truth) and shows 4h 3h.

"I've changed my mind," declares Kevin showing a dominating pair of cowboys.

He needn't have worried though, as the board came 9s Ts Jh 7d Th, Keith's call for a split pot on the River failing to emerge.

Rumit Somaiya has just doubled up through Brian Johnson, I got there will all Rumit's chippy in the middle on a board like:

 7s 5s 3s   Kc  3c

Rumit had  Ad Kh and Brian had  Th Td.  Rumit now up to 43,000 and Brian is only wounded.

---------------------------------------------

Our own Kingpoker, Gareth Ower showed us all that he aint just a luckbox who sucks out on people, he can actually play poker guys and girls.  With about 10k (so raise and a call preflop) in the pot and this flop:

 Qh Jh 7c

Patrick McCloskey bets 6,000.  Gareth goes deep into that tank that everyone talks about and I wait, he thinks, he changes colour, he thinks some more, then he passes  Ac Qd face up.  "Oooooo" says a couple of table mates and Patrick shook his head ruing Gareth's decision to pass, so he turns over a set of 7's and tells KP "good good pass!"   A big satisfying exhale of breath from Gareth who still has 21,000 chips.   ;woohoo;

Well bokked Claw and Technolog. I'm afraid KingPoker is OUT. Nik Persaud roughly filled in the story for me, he said there was a raise to 2,600, KP made it 8,600 with around 10k back before Van Hoang moved all-in behind him, the initial raiser passed, and Gareth felt he was committed and called with his Ace King only to run into Kings behind him and missed his Ace. Very unfortunate circumstances after a great days play, and Nik added Gareth played well and seemed like a good guy.

Unlucky sir.

Whilst Ian Grier survives an all-in with Liam Flood "Letting it go" (he was shown Eights incidentally), and even bigger hand unfolds on the neighbouring table between Rumit Somaiya and Simon Zach. Re-raised from 3.5k to 11k total by Rumit, Simon smooth calls allowing both players to see a 4c Th 4s Flop. Check, check, then again, on the 3c Turn, then yet again on the 2h River leads this blogger to assume Big Slick for both players, but although Rumit announces Ace King believing he has a good chance of taking the pot, Simon Zach surprises the table by revealing Pocket Queens.

Dave Barnes just doubled through former chip leader Mark Friedman who looks to have lost at least half of his former 64k stack.

The board read:

Qs Tc Qh

and Barnes was all-in with Jc Jd against Ks Js, a couple of non-descript sixes later and he doubled through to what looks to be around 40k.

  ***** MONSTER POT ALERT ******

Glancing upon a floplike

 Ac Td 9c

Van Hoang bets 4,300.  Richard Gryko decides to raise it upto 12,300.   Van took a little while to decide (and maybe this is when Gryko picked up a little weakness in Van) but he makes it another 20,400, so Gyrko moved all in for only another 13,275 extra to Van.  Now Van is shaking his head and really is not glorious about putting in the extra strongly believing he is behind.  Gyrko played it just right to make Van believe that his  Aspades Qd had shrunk into non pot winning insignificance!

But with so much money in the pot, he had to make the call, so he did with only 10k left behind.  On their backs:

Van  Aspades Qd
Gyrko   7c 8c  for a humoungous draw.

Turn   9d
River   Ts

and Gyrko missed the lot!  That must put Van Hoang on around 95,000!!!

Van Hoang with Richards chips amongst his own.

With the Irishman raising it up to 3,250 pre-flop, Simon made it 11,000 only for Muldoon to announce all-in. Simon looked genuinely tempted, but eventually opted for a fold. "Did you have the hand?" Dan Owston has knocked out Norman Rad with 2-2 vs erm...3-4 on a Q-4-2 board. (But not before Dan introduced himself to Norman as 'Roger' for absolutely no reason whatsoever). Dan then also knocked out Richard De Freitas with K-8 against Q-8.

Brian Johnson has just lost two consecutive big pots, first to Edward Cahill with K-T vs A-J on a J-J-7-Q-A board. "Why not a Nine?" cried Brian.

Then shortly after, he doubled up Rumit to nearly 80k with K-J vs A-9 on a K-6-9-9-4 board after all the money went in on the turn..

Grantham & Ladrokes Steve Mitchell has struggled all day to get over his starting stack.  Having Aces & Kings busted ealier in the day, anyway he plodded on and recently reached the heady heights of 26,000.  I believe in deciding to go for it in the last half hour instead of sitting still he clashed with Ashely Hayles.

Steve limped on the button and Hayles just checked the BB.  They saw a flop of

 9h Th Jd

Ashley bet 2/3rds of the pot and Steve pushed all in, just bad timing as Hayles was going nowhere with his J10 and Steve only had K10.  No help for Steve Mithcell and he was out in 41st place.

After a long, gruelling day, I think the grinder of the day award has to go this man, the infamous Paul Moss, aka Fatmarra.

Last hand of the night and time for shortie Thomas Dunwoodie  for a make or break moment.  He shoved with K8 but ran into running hot Hayles's Aces.  Dunwoodie lost the nowhere near race and went out.

It looked like - although this might need confirming - that Van Huang was tonights chip leader with 130,00.  So that means a glorious seat in next years £3k Grand Final thanks to Blue Sqaure.

Ross Boatman enjoyed a late rush, first re-raising all-in after Ali Sarkeshik had bet out on a King high Flop, before raising pre-flop and continue betting a 6s-Qs-3d Flop. Mark Freidman was the man who folded, allowing Boatman to reveal a 6.

Ali Sarkeshik was blessed with a double up in the dying seconds. He managed to find (1) Aces and (2) cheeky Welshman Dan owston nicking the blinds at just the right time.

It wasn't a big all-in raise, but enough nonetheless, but Dan fancied a gamble and called with K-7 in the hope that he had two live cards.

... he didn't like what a saw.

A King on the Flop gave Dan a glimmer of hope, but it wasn't to be and Ali earned himself a timely last minute double through.

It may be cool and fresh up here in the press room, but down in the cardroom I'm sweating like a monkey's bum on a treadmill.

Im pretty sure Van Hoang was the young guy who threatened to sit on Ian Woodley and beat him up with a coffee mug in the Vic event earlier in the year. Imagine the proportions of the combatabts and it was a lol moment.

Just got off the phone to KP.   He said he enjoyed himself and thought he played well.  Think he's got a taste for these big events now, just hasn't got the bankroll (I know how he feels).

Well played fella :)up

Just wanted to say thanks for the support.

Im in an internet cafe just up from the vic and just had to say I had a great time yesterday. Couldnt have been happier with my play, the only mistake i made all day was paying Ben Vinsons 2k value bet on the river when I knew i had to be beat.

Also had the pleasure Of MArty Wilson on my table for most of the day teliing stories and livening up the table, unfortunately i did knock him out in the end but what a character to have on your table.

Man i loved the event, just need to get into some of the 1k GUKPT's next year now somehow lol....

Thanks again for your support, and by the by I didnt change the shirt at the break due to peer pressure, i went back to hotel for shower and thus changed it then....
