hand over on table 47, Amsterdam Masters Classic winner Trone Eidsvig was sitting there giggling like a schoolgirl as another player told me about the disappearance of the player from seat 3. They'd seen a Q-T-5-2-x board where Mateyboy 1 had bet 2,000 on the river with Queens and Mateyboy 2 had decided to push for his stack with Kings, needless to say he was quickly called, and quickly out.
Title: Re: Pokerstars.com Bahamas EPT: Day 1B - At A Glance Post by: NoflopsHomer on January 06, 2008, 06:33:08 PM Jeff Kimber: "I check/raised with a set of deuces on an 8-4-2 flop but I checked the 3 turn because the flush came, he checked behind me though and when the 5 came on the river, I thought the only hand I'm losing to is A-8. He'd called my check/raise on the flop with A-Jo..."
Title: Re: Pokerstars.com Bahamas EPT: Day 1B - At A Glance Post by: NoflopsHomer on January 06, 2008, 07:24:45 PM Karl Mahrenholz just won a decent pot off fellow Brit Gary Blaby.
He check called 1k, 1.4k and then 2.5k on a 9s 5c 4d 4c 8c board with A-9 against Blaby's J-9. (http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=25479.0;attach=16561;image) Elsewhere, William Thorsen called two bets with 9c 9s on a 7d Jc 4s 3s 5s board, before he and his opponent checked the river. His elderly opponent showing an inferior Ahrt 7h before mucking. He then held Aspades Jx on a J-T-7-x board (3 spades) against 9-8 for a 30k pot which didn't go his way. He's thinking about possibly entering the $2k Pokerstars Battleship comp on Tuesday, (Dan Carter is also planning to enter this).
Title: Re: Pokerstars.com Bahamas EPT: Day 1B - At A Glance Post by: NoflopsHomer on January 06, 2008, 08:06:58 PM Incidentally, we're not able to give you an accurate count of players who started or players left because of the supremely high numbers. There were about 485 players who qualified through Pokerstars but that doesn't take in to account the number of players who bought in at the Casino.

He's a poker author and an all-around great guy. Bumping with tidbit of new information. He started sitting next to Greg (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=561) Raymer (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=561). He is probably wearing a baseball hat that reads "bluffing" on the front and "not bluffing" on the reverse. Not this time, but he has 22k at the moment. Annette Obrestad is OUT. She got in a raising war with another player, he made it 600, she made it 1,600, he made it 6,000, she instantly pushed for 18,000 more and he called with Ace King, she had J-T suited and missed. Title: Re: Pokerstars.com Bahamas EPT: Day 1B - At A Glance Post by: NoflopsHomer on January 06, 2008, 10:02:54 PM Crazy Mateyboy Cubed hand now.
It all kicked off on a 7s 4c 3s flop, Matey 1 in seat 1, led out for 2,500. Mateyboy 2 in seat 3 made it 7,500 and then Mateyboy 3 (seat 6 in the blue) re-popped it to I think 20k. Matey 1 instantly moved in and Matey 2 passed. Matey 3 dwelt for ages despite getting nearly 3-1 to call. The clock was asked for and Matey 3 then even declared, "I have Kings," to try and gauge a response which made me wonder if he should get a penalty for saying such things. Eventually he called with his Kings and was shown a set of 3's in return which held for what looked to be a nearly 60k pot. Juan, I found Carlos Lopez but no sign of your other guy. Mad even asked Carlos in Spanish if he knew where 'Krusty' was but he didn't. Carlos has around 18k. Bill Edler who won both a WPT and WSOP bracelet in 2007 bets 4,100 on a Tc 6c 8c 7s board getting Joe 'JoeHachem' Hachem (I'm sorry I really like referring to him by his Stars name) to fold, just as there table was broken. Mark Friedman, who you may remember from his third place finish in the GUKPT Grand Final at the Grosvenor Victoria in London, has been bashed down to the felt and is now on a paltry, frown creating 2,725. I didn't catch the betting action, but when I joined the action, they were counting out the chips on a board of 8d Ad Qd 6c 5c with Friedman's 8s 6d paying off Yankieboy's 7d 2d. Title: Re: Pokerstars.com Bahamas EPT: Day 1B - At A Glance Post by: snoopy1239 on January 07, 2008, 12:56:32 AM It took longer than expected, but the Ade Bayo spiel has finally been prised out, and what a flurry of verbal diarrhea it was.
All-in from early position, the action halted at Yankieboy down the other end of the table who carefully contemplated his decision. "Just in case," says Ade raising from his seat. "I think you have Queen or King high," he adds. "You've been thinking for a while now, that's a good sign." "Your hand can't be that good." "I have too short of a stack, I have to make a move." "This is my lucky hand." At this point, Yankieboy somehow managed to sneak in a word, a simple "go on then" as he made the call. "Have you got an Ace?" asked Ade, holding his cards aloft without actually showing them. As Yankieboy shrugs, Ade reveals Kh Kc, comfortably ahead of his opponent's Ahrt Th. "That's good, nice hand," he confesses dejectedly. As the board comes out, Ade finally zips up and you can almost sense him chanting "No Ace, no Ace, no Ace" in his head. And Ade would have got his wish, the board coming a harmless 9c 2h 7d 6d 4d. But if you thought that was the end of the 'talk', then think again my pretties. "I'm back." "One more of those and I'll be dangerous." "Just when you thought it would be peace and quiet." "I was worried that someone was going to say 'Noooo, don't call, he's a rock.'" "I'm only crazy in the big blind, the rest of the time I've got the goods. I know people always say that, but it's the truth." And on that note, I decided I had enough for my report and duly scampered off into the distance as Ade's mouth continued to motor away. Title: Re: Pokerstars.com Bahamas EPT: Day 1B - At A Glance Post by: NoflopsHomer on January 07, 2008, 01:01:51 AM TJ Cloutier is OUT. He was goading his opponent to move in on the river of a Td 3d 5d Qh 5c board saying, "Come on, just put your chips in the middle." which said opponent, Asa Smith, did. TJ instantly called and Asa showed 7d 6d for the flopped flush.
"Flush?" said the veteran, looking back at his cards, "Flush is good." He mucked and then left the table... Title: Re: Pokerstars.com Bahamas EPT: Day 1B - At A Glance Post by: NoflopsHomer on January 07, 2008, 01:39:40 AM Added to the list of Brits playing today is, Andy Lowe aka 'Goldenboys' as directed to us by Stuart Taylor, he's got 40k.
Gavin Grifffin has managed to bleed almost all his chips away, first losing with A-K against 6-6 on a A-Q-6 board. That left him with around 50k, but he's now just down to 15k having folded on the river to a push on a Qc 8d 6s Ks 4h. Title: Re: Pokerstars.com Bahamas EPT: Day 1B - At A Glance Post by: snoopy1239 on January 07, 2008, 01:43:01 AM Although he exploded out of the blocks and became the first player to break that 100k mark, Gavin Griffin has exploded again, but this time in the wrong sense as he has now self-exploded his way down to 49k after making a mistimed move against Neville Desai pictured below.
With 20-25k in the pot and a board of Tc 4d Jc 3c 9s, Neville bet 5k from the small blind only for Gavin to riffle his chips, tilt his head slightly and shove in a re-raise of 17,000 more, virtually all of Neville's remaining chips. Before Gavin had barely pushed his raise over the line, Neville jumped out of his chair like a leaping salmon being ejected from the passenger seat of an aeroplane and announced "call" in double quick time. Gavin turned over Ac Kh, and Neville showed a straight, Kd Qd to take down a pot and a 80 plus k stack. Title: Re: Pokerstars.com Bahamas EPT: Day 1B - At A Glance Post by: snoopy1239 on January 07, 2008, 01:48:04 AM We haven't quite discovered how he accrued his Mount Everest, but Brian Lindsay is your current chip leader with a quite monstrous 205,000.
Title: Re: Pokerstars.com Bahamas EPT: Day 1B - At A Glance Post by: snoopy1239 on January 07, 2008, 01:56:35 AM Chip leader Brian Lindsay may be a dot to everyone else in the chasing field, but leading that pack relatively comfortably is Julio Marines who has just elevated his stack to 170k after eliminating Yankieboy. On a 6h 9s 2d 8c board, Yankieboy pushed all-in and Julio called, his Aspades 9h in great shape against an inferior Ks 8h. A Th on the River was of no use and Julio was able to cement his second place spot.
Title: Re: Pokerstars.com Bahamas EPT: Day 1B - At A Glance Post by: NoflopsHomer on January 07, 2008, 02:08:47 AM Matthew Hilger has around 17k, he's sharing a table with his fellow author Tom McEvoy, who is doing a lot better with around 50k.
The Gavin Griffin implosion is complete, he shoved with Q-5o, was called, and predictably ended up on the rail. Title: Re: Pokerstars.com Bahamas EPT: Day 1B - At A Glance Post by: NoflopsHomer on January 07, 2008, 02:12:45 AM Daniel Negreanu just knocked out a shorter stack with Eights against Fives.
Needing one of two remaining 5's, the flop came out: 9-7-6 and suddenly the short stack doesn't want a 5. Then the turn was a second 9 and now he needs a 5 again, (wish he'd make his mind up) but the river bricks out with the 2s. Title: Re: Pokerstars.com Bahamas EPT: Day 1B - At A Glance Post by: snoopy1239 on January 07, 2008, 02:28:38 AM Well, it's pretty much a wrap here, but as they were bagging up, I managed to race in and grab a couple of English counts. One of those was Nick Gibson, currently riding high with 91k, which is no less than we expect from the man known as Gwibbo. The other, I'm afraid, providing rather less satisfactory news, was James Akenhead, the Hit Squadder almost giggling to me that he'd just bagged up 575 after making a shortstack push on the very last hand with K-3 and being looked up by a fellow shortstacker with A-Q. No help, and he's down to the felt, but still planning to make an appearance tomorrow. Who knows, people have come back from less.
As for Isabelle Mericer, I couldn't quite see if she made it through the day. She'd been hovering around her starting stack for almost the entire time, seemingly staying out of the big pots, playing small ball poker and perhaps looking to grind her way into tomorrow's proceedings relatively unnoticed. She was actually very quiet today, when often she can be more chatty, so maybe she is focused on her game more than ever. Either way, ariston, it looks like I owe you a tenner. I'll be sure to keep you updated on her progress tomorrow even if that is the case, although I shall pay my debt reluctantly. 8) |
