o here we are on the penultimate day of the PCA EPT Bahamas. Incidentally, I don't think this has been mentioned yet, but this tournament has been, in my opinion, superbly run. When Snoops and I first arrived, we noticed the similarities between the Atlantis and the Rio, and we're having flashbacks of the incredibly difficult WSOP. But all these fears have been allayed, I don't think I've heard a single complaint from the players about anything, a remarkable feat considering the 1000+  players.

It makes you wonder what the WSOP would be like if Pokerstars were in charge...

The first player to experience the bitter taste of dust today is American Jared Mahoney. All-in with Kd Qc against Evan Tindell's Ks Js, his life in the tournament was looking rather peachy until the dealer threw out a shoulder-dropping Kh 6d Jc Flop. A Kc on the Turn meant that Mahoney was eagerly searching for one of three Queens for a bigger full house. However, it didn't arrive and the harmless 8s River meant that Mohoney was gone, only to be comforted, if that was possible, by the seemingly genuine apologies of his humble opponent.

Bryan Colin has been eliminated from the feature table with Q-2 versus Q-8.

Most of his chips the way of Hafiz Khan after the latter's A-K hit a King on the River against Colin's Pocket Jacks.

Early double up for Victor Ramdin, he was in the big blind, calling Craig Hopkins small blind raise. The board came out 7c 4c 4d and all the chips quickly ended up in the middle.

Victor: Aspades 4h

Craig: Ac Jc

A 3h turn and a 5h river was met with a clap from the Pokerstars player as  he increased his stack to around 400k. Hopkins still has about 500k left though.

Chip leader David Pham has started off very quickly, he raised it up to 37k, Kristoffer Edberg re-raised to 105k and Pham moved in, the Scandinavian releasing his Ahrt Qd.

Magnus Karlsson raises to 32k from the hijack over on table 5, Joseph Elpayaa asks for a count before shoving in a big stack of red chips re-raising to 115k. A deep sigh and another Scandie is on the backfoot.

Craig Hopkins just got a little lucky to knock out Jesse Chinni, the latter holding Aspades Qh against the Brit's Ac Jd. But a 3h 7s Js 8d 2h board later and the American was the one leaving the table.

'The Apple' also gave us the details of Robert Lederer exit, he re-raised all-in on a 9-8-x board with T-7, but was called by pocket 4's. A 4 on the turn left him with just 8 outs for the river which failed to materialise. (Or for him, materialize).

Michael Cooper is all a-whooping and a-hollaring after his 9h 9d held against Christopher Klodnicki's 7c 5c on a 8d 6h 7h 8h Td board, all the money in on the flop. A one million chip pot sent his way.

Elton Tsang is no longer still standing. Although stumbling on a pair of Threes pre-flop, Elton ran into the Pocket Jacks of Michael Cooper, and like a candle in the wind, he was gone. Tsang has now joined the circle of players on the rail.

----------

Garrett Adelstein has eliminated Gregory Byard.

Christopher Klodnicki is OUT. Tens into Michael Cooper's A-Q which triumphed on a J-A-2-4-K.

And now it's time for... The Richard Fohrenbach and Magnus Karlsson Show!!!

First Fohrenbach raises it up with Kd Td, Karlsson pushes behind him with Ahrt 4c and Fohrenbach calls.

Board: 2h 6h 3d 2s 8s

Double up for the Scandie.

Next!

In a small blind/big blind battle, they see a Ks 3s 8s, Fohrenbach bets 40k and Karlsson moved all-in. Fohrenbach called with Kh 8c, Karlsson showed Kd 4s. Karlsson missed his flush and now the American doubles through.

Next!

Fohrenbach raises from the cutoff. Karlsson moves in again and Fohrenbach calls.

Fohrenbach: Kd 8d

Karlsson: Jd Jc

Board: Aspades Ts 7d 6d 4h

Fohrenbach and Karlsson. Both still in. Just!

On a 2h 5h 6c flop. Michael Cooper bets 60k, Emil Timberg adds another 100k on top and Michael makes the call.

Both check the 8c turn before Michael checks to the Norwegian once more on the 6d river. Emil struggles to pull out three big stacks of blue chips, worth 100k per stack. Cooper folds and Emil quickly flips his Kd Qd with a bit of glee.

Cooper starts talking in his Southern drawl, "Only time...only time I've been bluffed..."

Emil, "How would you know?"

"Aahhh, only reason I didn' call you there was because I had pocket fours, but I ain't here to play, I'm here to win."

Crikey O'Reilly, on the very last hand before the break it all went bananas, three all-ins (and a call!) occurred on three tables, meaning that myself and the camera crew endured five minutes of sheer bedlam that would make a Take That concert look tame.

The first showdown witnessed was between Paul Holub and Benjamin Reed, Holub having the best of it with Ac Kd versus Reed's in-deep-deep-doggy-do Aspades 9d.

A 2h 3h Ks 2c 4d later and it was high five time, Holub celebrating boisterously with his friends on the rail. Meanwhile, the slightly more reserved Reed gathered his belonging and slipped off unnoticed.

---------

Also out is John Zioulas. All-in with Qd Jd on a Qc 3c Kd Flop, John will have been mighty relieved to have been shown an 8c 9c from Michael Cooper, but at the same time a little on edge about the draw possibilities. As the dealer placed a non-draw-completing 4h onto the green baize, Cooper shouted out "Black" authoritatively whilst John responded with "Keep it red, keep it red!" Unfortunately for John, it was Cooper's prayers that were answered as out popped a flush-filling 5c on the River. Cue the usual "Yes!" pumped up celebration and the subsequent look of devastation from the victim, and we're down to 33.

---------

It hasn't all be busto galore though, as on David (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=826) Pham (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=826)'s former table, we actually stumbled across a double up. It wouldn't have been hard to lose someone here though, Eric Ven Den Burg in quite splendid shape against Kristoffer Edberg with Ks Kc versus an in-need-of-divine-assistance Kd 9d.

Although the 9s Qc 6d Flop threatened a miracle getaway, it didn't arrive as the raggy 5s Turn was followed by an eye-brow raising case Kh.

Rumour has it that Kristoffer Edberg has been eliminated, but we'll need to confirm that exit.

Yep, he's out. The K-9 vs Eric Van Den Burg's K-K the clincher.

The funny thing with the Dutch guys Thierry and Eric, is that every time they win a decent pot or double through, they end up doing an interview with a blonde dutch lady. It's quite surreal to see Thierry Van Den Berg, who just doubled up with Qd Qc on a Qh 9d Ks 5s 7s board against the mouthy James D'Ambrosio, rake up the chips, do the interview and play a hand all at the same time.

Magnus Karlsson is OUT, his pair of fours getting beat on the turn by William Thorson's A-Q. Ace on the turn.

Thorson over a million in chips now.

-----------

High fiving Paul Holub has just taken down a big pot off David Pham. The Flop was 2d 9h 4h and Hobul was all-in for 260k more after Pham had bet out 250k. But even though it was so little to cool considering the massive amount already in the pot, Pham opted for the fold. Perhaps this was is the difference between the pro's and the amateurs?

Title: Re: Re: Pokerstars.com Bahamas EPT: Day 4 - At A Glance
Post by: NoflopsHomer on January 09, 2008, 08:19:26 PM
David Pham's count is now close to 2.5 million. A value bet of 165k on a Ad Kd 4s 4h 3h was paid off by Victor Ramdin who mucked when he saw Aspades 7s.

Evan Tindell has doubled through James D'Ambrosio with Aspades 3s vs Qs 7s.

"Doesn't matter, a queen is coming on the river!" said the increasingly loud D'Ambrosio.

Board: 6d Kc 2c 2s 8h

Eric Van Den Burg bets 100k on a Ts 5d 8d flop, Jacques Zaicik moves in for 440k more and Eric passed, only to be shown Ahrt Ks.

4c 5d Ad Flop, ElkY bets, Thorson re-raises, ElkY goes all-in, Thorson begrudgingly calls.

Thorson = Td 8d

ElkY = 5c 5h

Ace on the turn and Thorson's down to about 500K. Elky on a bit over 900K

Big pot for Joseph Elpayaa who ended up all-in preflop for his 720k or so with 9c 9s against David Pham's Ac Qc. I didn't see the preflop action, only that there were at least 3 preflop raises between them before all the chips went in.

The board came out 7h 7d 3h 2c 2h and a huge cheer from the Joseph's 'balla' friends rung out across the room as they went into high-fives and whooping.

Rhett Butler goes out to Kris Kuykendall, K-Q vs K-Q. But Kris hits a flush...

Next Thierry Van Den Berg is all-in with the bullets against Glen Chorny's Kings. Chorny apparently said to the dealer that if he put down a king, he would give the dealer $1,000 there and then. The King promptly came on the flop and Chorny gave the entire contents of his wallet to the dealer ($950). Shame the dealer can't accept it...

Eric Lynch loses a big coinflip with A-K against Richard Fohrenbach's Queens and then soon was out against James D'Ambrosio with K-6 against K-J.

Garrett Adelstein out

Money went all in pre-flop against Hafiz Khan.

Adelstein raised, Khan went all in, Adelstein called

Khan had 10 10
Adelstein had Q Q

A ten on the flop and Adelstein never caught up.

Thankyou sir.

Redraw for 3 tables now in progress.

----------

Double up for Thorson. Harder raised pre-flop, Thorson pushed, Harder called for a 949k pot. As-Ts vs. Js-9s, Jc-4d-6h-8h-6c, Harder down to 362K.

Annand 'Victor' Ramdin is OUT.

Ramdin = 3d 3c

Joseph Elpayaa = Aspades Ts

Board = 9c Js Qd 6h 7c

Even He11muth would be proud of that bullet dodgage.

Eric Van Der Burg is OUT. He pushed with Ahrt Jd on the 4c 7s 2s board and was looked up by Allisen Connor's Ks Js. The 4s turn was met by an upset bang on the table from Eric and the Jh river meant nothing.

Scandie Timberg has been getting busy.

First he raises to 50k and is called by Joseph Elpayaa. Timberg checks the Th 6h 3s flop, Joseph bets 70k and Timberg calls. Timberg then check/calls again on the 6s turn. But on the Qh river, Timberg open-shoves for around 900k and Joseph only has about 800k behind, he folds, albeit reluctantly.

3-handed then between Emil Timberg (who limped UTG), Elky (who limped the button) and big blind Hafiz Khan.

They all check the 7s 9d 6c flop before, Elky has a stab on the Kd but is called in both spots. All three then check the river and Hafiz Khan's Ks 7h takes the pot.

Khan calls the raise in the next hand from Glen Chorny, but folds to an 85k bet on the Jh Th 6s flop.

Lance Gettler is OUT. Ace King versus Glen Chorny's Ace Jack. Jack on the turn.

James D'Ambrosio is also OUT. His King Jack failed to improve against William (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=780) Thorsson (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=780)'s Ace Ten.

Craig Hopkins picked up his first decent pot in a while, bet 70k on the turn of a 9d Ac 5s 6d board, forcing the short-stack Marius Olsvik.

Richard Forenbach doubles through Allisen Connor with Kh Kc vs 7h 7s.

Joseph Elpayaa just took another chunk of Emil Timberg's chips. Calling two bets of 70k and 120k on the turn and river of a 5s 5c 2c Js 9c board with Qh Jd, Timberg could only giggle and show 8h 6h.

Chip leader Glen Chorny was also in the pot, but folded to the turn bet. He has about 2.4 million.

Marius Olsvik doubles up with J-9 against Pierre Neuville's Kh Qh, catching a 9 on the flop and another on the river for good measure.

Emil Timberg is OUT. His Tens push from the small blind failed to hold against Evan Tindell's cut-off raise and subsequent call of the all-in.

If one man has emulated the yoyoness of Julian Thew, it's Bertrand Grospellier, the young Frenchman boinging up and down like a squash ball on a bungee. His last pot came courtesy of Glen Chorny, who appears to be on a downward swing, ElkY betting 200k on a Ks Jh 8d Ahrt before announcing all-in on the 4s River. Chorny instafolded.

----------

Holy moly, once chip leader of the outer tables with two million, Glen Chorny must be smothered in lard the rate he's sliding down the list, his latest encounter with Joseph Elpayaa seeing his stack drop to the 1.1 million mark. With the board reading 8h-6s-Ah, Glen raised Joseph's Flop bet from 130k to 370k before checking the 2d Turn and calling what I believed to be a 350k bet on the Js River. Joseph showed As-Kd and Glen, again, instamucked.

A couple of TV hands we've missed but have caught up on.

Christian Harder has doubled through with Threes vs Paul Holub's King Jack.

David 'The Dragon' Pham has knocked out Michael Cooper with Ace King against Ace Ten.

We're now down to three tables of six players.

And on that note, we've lost Pierre Neauville. With ElkY in the big blind, the action folded around to Pierre who made an understandable all-in push with his Ahrt Ts. Even more understandably, ElkY decided that his Pocket Kings might be worth a stab and made a rather suspect call.

A 8c 6c 4s 4h 7s board was about as harmless as it gets, and Pierre was a gonna. He obviously had a sense of humour, because when he was shown Kings, Pierre revealed just the Ace with the other card underneath, showing that the Ace was the only one that mattered whilst simultaneously adding "crap, does he have Aces?" doubt into his opponent's mind.

He was also very gracious in defeat, shaking the hands at the tables, wishing them good luck and claiming that it had been a pleasure. What a gent.

Marius Olsvik has been eliminated from the feature table. The Norwegian moved in for 241k with A-To, but something must have made big blinder Richard Fohrenbach suspicious as he made a marginal call with K-2. However, the Poker Gods work mysterious ways, and following a Q-9-9-7-K board, it was Marius wishing he hadn't called.

------------

Also joining the rail is Dungaree-donning American Justin Phillips. It all happened in a flash, but he pushed all-in after William Thorson had re-raised his pre-flop button raise from the small blind. Thorson must have been pot committed as he made a reluctant call with Qh 4h. Justin seemed to be in pretty good shape with Ahrt Kh.

Shadowing the table with his foreboding frame, Julian watched with anticipation as the dealer began to slide three cards off the deck. But with a 2h 4d 9c Flop, Justin's face sunk with disappointment and he could sense this was the end of his journey. As usual, Thorson didn't move a muscle, win or lose, his expression remains stoic, and this hand was no different.

6c on the Turn and 3d on the River and Justin was sent packing. As someone who likes to chat, make himself heard and even high five his friends on victory, it was noted that he was extremely gracious in defeat, instantly commending his opponent on his hand and swiftly shaking the hands of the rest of the table on departure. He seemed like a nice guy this chap, and a hell of a character, so in that sense it's a shame that he's non-runner for the final 8.

For those watching the EPT Live feed, I'm the chap who backed the Brits versus the Canadians, thus winning my bet.  ;D

And the reason for my victory comes courtesy of American Joseph Elpayaa, all-in against Candian Glen Chorny with Qs 9s vs. Ad 8c on a 9d 2c 8s 9c Js board.

It was an up and down day for Chorny, but his venture in this year's PCA has finally come to an end.

------------

Out in 12th is Jacques Zaicik, the Frenchman running Pocket Fours into the Pocket Rockets of Hafiz Khan. No help means no final table, but not bad going  for someone who has only been playing the game for four months and I'm sure he will have made his tutor and fellow countryman, Bertand 'ElkY' Grospellier very proud indeed. Wish he'd teach me!

Poker is a cruel and twisted game, and never has that statement been more justifiable than in the last elimination. With a 9s 7c Qs Flop lying patiently on the felt, a raising war occurred between Paul Holub and David (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=826) Pham (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=826), Holub finally pushing all-in for 630k. Not liking the situation and knowing that he needed to hit, David deemed this spot worthy of a gamble and thus called with 8s 5s. However, the last thing he wanted to see was a flush draw, but that's exactly what he was up against, Holub proudly revealing a Ks Ts for a dominating hand. The Ad was a blank, but the River wasn't, a vomit-inducing 6c leaving its victim aghast and the lucky victor thankful for the good fortune.

---------

These were the chip counts prior to Holub's exit:

Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier -- 3,780,000
Kris Kuykendall -- 3,400,000
Joseph Elpayaa -- 2,556,000
Evan Tindell -- 2,230,000
Hafiz Khan -- 2,100,000
David Pham -- 2,005,000
Richard Fohrenbach -- 1,740,000
William Thorson -- 1,505,000
Craig Hopkins -- 1,360,000
Christian Harder -- 893,000
Paul Holub -- 873,000

David Pham -- 6.2 million

And it's the David (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=826) Pham (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=826) steamroller that sees us end the day with our final 8. Thorson started the action of with a pre-flop raise and Tham called, but come the 6h 9d 6s Flop, there was no messing around from the Swede who pushed all-in with 4s 4h, only to be called quicker than a hiccup by Pham who had a sneaky pair of Bullets, Ad Ahrt. A Js and 7h Turn and River and it's all over, the high regarded Thorson sent to the rail in 9th.

We're all done, play restarts at 10am (3pm UK) because of some casino regulations which is why it's so mind-numbingly early.

See you all tomorrow.
