Title: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 2: At-A-Glance Post by: danafish on January 19, 2008, 12:47:50 PM Good morning everyone! Rod, Jen and I (suddenly that reminds me of 70s and 80s kids' TV favourites Rod, Jane and Freddy, in so many different ways) have all had a good 10 hours' sleep and are all now fully-rested, well-fed and ready to face the day! No, just kidding, we've actually had 5 hours' sleep and vodka last night while watching Youtube documentaries about children's beauty pageants and we all feel like death. Regardless, we will be down at the Grosvenor come 2pm for the start of Day 2. Those still in include the likes of Julian Thew, Dave Colclough, aforementioned Jen Mason, Dave "Dubai on blonde" Shallow, James Atkin and Stuart Rutter, all playing for a chunk of the £290-or-so-000 pool. JOIN US...
Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 2: At-A-Glance Post by: JungleCat03 on January 19, 2008, 01:54:33 PM Welcome back guys, thanks for joining us as we prepare to embark on Day 2 of the Brighton GUKPT.
Here is the full list of the remaining 70 players. They will be playing down to the final table today. Yesterday's action was fast, frenetic and aggressive. I anticipate this morning could well start fast as the smaller stacks try and double up, so there should be some blood being spilled...I hope all those who went out till the early hours yesterday are prepared for the firestorm ahead! I just bumped into Alex Martin, who was one of those who partook in some alcoholic beverages last night but he seems relatively fresh and is confident about the day ahead. Jen "Baconhead" Mason is also working off a few hours sleep but once she hears the sounds of chips clicking and cards riffling, she will no doubt fall into her stride very quickly. Too many names remain to mention them all so without further ado, here is the full list plus chip counts of today's particpators. Good luck all! Light the blue touch paper and retire.... Full seating plan on its way, but for the moment I can tell you that an interesting table should be the one that has Jen, Julian and chip leader Robert Cowens at it. I understand there have been a couple of exits already; Junglecat will bring you details shortly. Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 2: At-A-Glance Post by: JungleCat03 on January 19, 2008, 02:30:59 PM There may have been an exit or two, but they were very surreptitious exits if so...
The early exchanges have involved mainly riases followed by passes... Jen was seen raising Julian Thew's big blind to 3,600 from late position. The battle between goldenboy Thewy and bacon head Mason was shortlived though, as Julian quickly passed and Jen threw him an apologetic glance, as she quietly mucked her cards. Josh Tyler was seen betting 8k or so on the river of an A high board, only to muck when his opponent called and showed an ace, and he was left muttering something about queens... Ian Woodley was seen raping and pillaging, well raising from the cut-off and picking up the blinds without too much trouble... Just to clarify, the top 27 protagonists will be paid today with £280,000 of prize money in total and a cool £86,800 plus for the winner. Incentive enough to ignore that hangover for many of last night's revellers I imagine. Two simultaneous boring A-K v A-K splits, one on Table Dubai, between Dubai himself and Mr Farbod Javad (below, in shades), and the other between Nik Persaud and Josh Tyler. Dubai looks a bit short after allegedly being (allegedly) slow-rolled by Joe Grech who was holding A-2 for trips, but he isn't slowing down any. Saw him raise utg (says Woody Deck, now on his left - "Stop raising! Fish!") and again be called by Javad; they both checked the 3s 5c Tc flop, and Dubai took it with a big ol' bet on the 5d turn. Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 2: At-A-Glance Post by: danafish on January 19, 2008, 03:29:53 PM Adam Clark is OUT, the victim of some very poor luck by the sound of it. After starting the day in good shape, he lost half his chips with Queens v Kings, all in on a raggy flop. He then shoved with A-J to a raise and found himself called by the mighty 7-8 suited, which obviously hit. Unlucky, Adam.
Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 2: At-A-Glance Post by: danafish on January 19, 2008, 03:31:59 PM Ian Holman, seems to have doubled up with Q-Q against A-Q on a Q-high flop. Ouch, that A-Q. I got to the table a bit late to 100% confirm, but I believe the unfortunate A-Q-er was Dave Colclough.
Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 2: At-A-Glance Post by: danafish on January 19, 2008, 03:35:07 PM Also OUT is Lam Trinh - sorry Lambor. :(
I missed his exit, but his assassin, Paul Gardener, filled me in. Apparently Lam called a raise with Ad Qd in late position. They both checked the Q-9-4 flop, and then ended up all in on the turn, which was another Nine. Gardener was holding 9-T. Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 2: At-A-Glance Post by: JungleCat03 on January 19, 2008, 03:39:07 PM Hows Dubai getting on? I am sure he will have had an early night last night and wont have been on the sauce ;) Dubai is looking a little the worse for wear and was recently involved in a bit of a dispute with Joe Grech. Apparently Joe took a while to call a large Dubai bet holding trip deuces, and Dubai was somewhat miffed at what he felt was a slowroll. He soon perked up though, raising on the button on Chris Sokrati's big blind. Chris found 9-9 and decided this had to be good versus a Dubai raise on the button and shoved his chips in. Sadly for him, Dubai had a genuine hand for once in A-A and once he insta-called, Chris couldn't spike the 9 he needed to remain in contention, meaning Soxy has joined the rail. "That's as much of a coldeck as Kings into Aces versus Dubai!" bemoaned Chris with some justification. Tony Mackay is also one of the early casualties, and Dave Clarke adn blondeite Alex Martin are also early casualties. I'll try and ascertain some details of these hands in due course.... Jen is prospering though. She has just taken a healthy chunk in the region of 25k off Roberts Cowan, one of the overnight chip leaders. With 6-6 on a 7-8-9-2-2 board, Jen called all the way, including what was perhaps the toughest call on the river, but her baconhair-fuelled bravery was rewarded as Cowans showed her Q-T for a missed straight draw, meaning Jen is now 65-70k and well in contention with the leaders. The cowboy Dana has been fantasising about all morning, Wayne Rideout, has hightailed it off into the sunset, losing a crucial coinflip and a fistful of dollars to Karim Louis somewhat brutally. Holding A-Q vs Karim's 2-2, the flop was good for him, coming x-Q-x-, the turn x wasn't bad for him.....BUT the river 2 was as UGLY as it gets, meaning Karim had rivered a 2 out for a set cruelly ending "John" Wayne Rideout's tournament/ Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 2: At-A-Glance Post by: JungleCat03 on January 19, 2008, 03:45:07 PM Stuart Rutter, who has worked tirelessly to remove the indelible association he has with scarfs this week, by failing to be spotted in one all week, despite the cold and rain, is also sadly out.
He shoved on the button with A-K, only to find a hero caller with T-8 and the flop came Q-Q-5-5...T! Another cruel river consigns one more player to the rail and Stuart looked a bit glum as I spoke to him about his exit. He's been a great laugh whilst he's been in the tournament though and we all know he'll be back soon... Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 2: At-A-Glance Post by: danafish on January 19, 2008, 04:13:23 PM I'm afraid that Paul Murrell is OUT, and no-one seems to know what happened. Perhaps if anyone speaks to him they can fill us in...
Also OUT is Efty Neocleous, who made a pretty 'Efty all-in raise with pocket Sixes and ran them into Karim Louis' pocket Kings. No Six on the board, although Efty remained vocally convinced it was coming until the very end, and he's gone now. Similarly OUT is James Sudworth who tried it on with Th 7h on a 2h Jd Ahrt flop but got himself called by Robert Cowen's Ad 4d. The turn and river were Ac and 8d, so please insert your own Sudworth/suds/flushing joke here, and know that he is gone. Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 2: At-A-Glance Post by: danafish on January 19, 2008, 04:16:56 PM Nik Persaud has doubled up with A-J against Clive Layton's A-7, the board coming down Q-Q-6-3-9.
Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 2: At-A-Glance Post by: JungleCat03 on January 19, 2008, 04:20:22 PM Can you wish the chip leader good luck from me, I fully intend to nip him, although please leave out the latter part. Well you may be able to nip her from the comfort of your shared abode, since Jen Mason has moved up toward the chip lead, with now over 100k! She has an odd maniacal devil-may-care look in her eye which suggests she could easily donk them all away OR destroy the tournament. We're all hoping it's the latter obviously but she's just started drinking some Dr Pepper... (http://imagecache2.allposters.com/images/pic/153/821422~What-s-the-Worst-That-Could-Happen-Posters.jpg) Another blondite, in fact THE ONE-OFF ORIGINAL, Dave Colclough has prospered early today and was just seen re-raising to 14,600 on the button, following a raise to 4,600 from James Reid in the cut-off. James thought for ages, needling Dave to get some information out of him, but the strong-willed, non-peroxide requiring Colclough refused to crack under the glaring lights of Reid's interrogation and ultimately Reid let go. Dave flipped over a solitary Kh as he re-stacked his newly acquired chips... Julian Thew appears to have been relatively quiet in the early stages and is slowly going along without yo-yoing too much. I doubt this will last tooo long though. We know Julian likes to get involved and he'll be diving in soon I fancy... Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 2: At-A-Glance Post by: danafish on January 19, 2008, 04:20:54 PM Ian Holman has made his exit, moving all in on the river of a 9s 7s 3c 8h 4d board. After much dwelling, James Reid calls.
Ian Holman - Ahrt Qh James Reid - 8d 2h for a pretty awesome call. Says tablemate Dave Colclough: "He plays pretty well, for a fish." Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 2: At-A-Glance Post by: danafish on January 19, 2008, 04:22:28 PM --------- SHORT BREAK ---------

Meanwhile there is some confusion - I thought the guy below was Lam Trinh, and he exited as I reported earlier. However, Jon Raab is convinced that Lam Trinh just didn't show up today and has been blinded away for the past few hours. Can anyone confirm this cahp's identity one way or the other? Turn - 6d - Tyler checks again and Dean shoves for 25 or 30k. Josh dwells up. "I hate this game," he says, and the clock is called on him. He folds, and is then quiet for at least 20 seconds before stealing the blinds next hand announcing that his intention is to dominate the table. Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 2: At-A-Glance Post by: danafish on January 19, 2008, 05:05:45 PM Has Jen taken a hit or are those chip counts pre accumulation of chip-lead-threatening-stack? She took a BIIIIGGG hit, apparently she lost a 90k pot just before the break, but she has recently knocked Ian Woodley out so is making some kind of comeback. Junglecat has more details, I think. Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 2: At-A-Glance Post by: JungleCat03 on January 19, 2008, 05:28:18 PM Great updates guys....good to see (i think because Ive seen him around) a Brighton player still in the hunt in the form of Roberts cowan.... Just a quick question for the Jungle Cat.....did u manage to get the turtle back from the neighbours balcony as a result of another flushy blunder? I know how much that fluffy little dude meant to you! The turtle was used as a pawn in the never ending power struggle between myself and flushy. An innocent casualty of war, he was captured by our neighbour and an unsuccessful SAS operation to recover him (involving dangling a piece of rope over the edge of our balcony) failed, meaning he is missing, presumed dead. Flushy is a moron, it neverends, but I must move on. Thanks for the concern though! As soon as I express how well I feel Jen is doing, she loses a mega pot where she passes top 2 with A-K on a K-x-T-A turn. It's an interesting hand, I'm not quite sure who it was played against but it involved Jen raising preflop then betting out with her A-K on the K-x-T board. She was check raised by villain, before making a VERY large 3 bet, which was flat called... On the arrival of the turn A, villain moved in for his, and also her CONSIDERABLE stack and she passed...Interesting, she felt like he had a set/ straight here. I'm not 100% sure I agree....what do you guys think? Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 2: At-A-Glance Post by: JungleCat03 on January 19, 2008, 05:30:32 PM Steve (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=414) Jelinek (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=414) is doing well, winning a big pot when he made a greata call on the river of a Ad 9s 3s 5h 7h with 5-2, which was good against Ian (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=176) Woodley (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=176)'s bluff with Q-T. "How could you call?" lamented Woodley... Jen was also in this hand but was sandwiched on the river and passed a 9 to Ian's bet, fearing Jelinek waiting to act behind. She looked quite gutted after this hand and after finding herself with 100k+ earlier, she now was down to 40k or so... Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 2: At-A-Glance Post by: JungleCat03 on January 19, 2008, 05:40:38 PM Baconhair-Jen's play may have been slightly streaky so far but her feeling of malaise was swiftly cured however as she found the now relatively short stacked Ian Woodley raising in late position.
Jen looked down to find a manly pair of cowboys staring back at her and moved allin. The pot committed Ian Woodley called, showing the limp but not yet done A-6. The board filled up with a series of inconsequential cards that changed nothing meaning Jen receives a healthy boost to her stack whilst the inimitable and loud but not unpleasant Ian Woodley is OUT! Never one to give an opponent the rub-down, there were no rind-ups from Jen for Ian(despite the fact he mocked her for "just being a girl" earlier) , but a quick shake of the hands and Jen was almost back to having a pig stack again... Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 2: At-A-Glance Post by: danafish on January 19, 2008, 05:52:45 PM Mick Fletcher button-raises to 6k; apparently no-one takes him seriously as both SB James Atkin and BB Karim Louis call. However, they both check the Ahrt Kd 6d Raiser's Flop, and give it up when Fletcher bets 8k, Louis folding pocket Fives face up. "That's the last time I give you chips," vows Atkin. Fletcher is not afraid.
Incidentally I understand that Mick's recently taken a 15k hit, although I don't know the details. Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 2: At-A-Glance Post by: danafish on January 19, 2008, 05:57:16 PM By the way, the gent to whom Jen earlier lost that massive hand is one Talal Shakerchi.
Both yesterday and today he made bold statements with his choice of polo shirts. I don't know if that helps you read anything into what his hand might have been. Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 2: At-A-Glance Post by: JungleCat03 on January 19, 2008, 05:57:27 PM Julian's slow start has soon been reversed.
A couple of key hands include one where he knocked out the very short Neil Fox (incidentally a well known Brighton local player - not the chubby capital one DJ) in a 4-4 v K-J match up... Not long after, the aggressive Dave Shallow raised it up from middle position and Julian re-raised from the big blind. Dave instantly moved in and Julian instantly called,. Dubai was holding A-10, Julian a spiffing pair of Kings, which duly held, plummenting Julian up towards the higher echelons of the leaderboard whilst Dubai, who has had a difficult first period of Day 2 has seen his stack reduced yet again... Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 2: At-A-Glance Post by: danafish on January 19, 2008, 06:00:09 PM Josh Tyler bets 9k or so utg, only for Michael Bolger to go all in. He folds.

Not sure what the preflop action was as I only scuttled over when I heard "All in!", but Carter was all in on a raggy flop with Qd Qc looking nice against Karim Louis' Aspades Kd. Ace duly spiked on river. Unlucky, Dan.
Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 2: At-A-Glance Post by: danafish on January 19, 2008, 06:28:58 PM As we approach the dinner break when I will be investigating the buffet, I can tell you that one more player has gone out, he being the same Luke Trotman who was previously next to Jen. Jen herself is on around 65 or 70k. Robert Cowen and Dubai are becoming increasingly aggressive in their banter with one another. The buffet will hopefully be nice. Back in 45 minutes when we'll have full chip counts. Mmm.
----------- DINNER BREAK ------------ Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 2: At-A-Glance Post by: danafish on January 19, 2008, 07:29:54 PM We're back! Mmm steak buffet. :)
News is that Mick Fletcher went out in the last hand before dinner to Monstrous Stack Joe Grech. By the way, here is the rather long overdue payout, stolen from the nice Bluesquare people: 1st Place £86,800 plus seat in Grand Final 2nd Place £46,200 3rd Place £30,800 4th Place £22,400 5th Place £16,800 6th Place £14,000 7th Place £11,200 8th Place £8,400 9th Place £5,600 10th Place £4,200 11th Place £2,800 12th to 15th £2,240 16th to 21st £1,960 22nd to 27th £1,680 280 players, total of £280,000 Final tablists each receive a nano iPod, apparently. Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 2: At-A-Glance Post by: JungleCat03 on January 19, 2008, 07:32:10 PM Just before the break a very big hand played out between Roberts Cowen and Talal Shakerchi, who Jen has been duelling with.
Talal raised to 7k, which was called by Cowen. The flop came Qs Qc 4s. Talal now led for 10k and Cowen raised another 15-20k. Talal now pushed for 50k more or so and Cowen (who incidentally is carrying a piece of paper saying "STOP AND THINK") followed the advice on his paper and after firing a few questions at Talal and thinking about what to do decided to make the call with J-J. It proved a good call, as Talal flipped over 9-9, leaving Cowen punching the sky happily as the turn and river blanked. Exit Talal and Cowen moved into the dinner break in 2nd spot, behind the extremely well stacked Joe Grech... Here are the rest of the chip counts as we approach the bubble. Players will no doubt go crazy now, all desperate to finish outside the money... Either that or they will merely follow convention and all the medium and short stacks will lock up allowing the biggies to bully them. Let's see what happens! Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 2: At-A-Glance Post by: danafish on January 19, 2008, 08:33:25 PM Ok, we've been standing around in the cardroom watching basically NOTHING happen for ages now, so I thought I'd better come up and check that no-one has done anything terrible to our thread.
Paul Gardener was all in at one point, but he had the other guy (I think it was Farbod Javad) covered. He's still hanging in there. Also just about hanging in is James Atkin, who was kicking himself. Super-super-short (like 15k short now), he found himself squirming on the cut-off. "This will be SO tight if I fold. SUPER-tight." Eventually, with much face-pulling, he lays it down. Joe Grech and Rob Garfield in the blinds see a A-K-9 flop. "NoooooOOOH!" squeals James. Afterwards he says he had A-Q. Says tablemate Dave Colclough to him: "Weren't you in second place or something this morning?" James confirms he was. "Folding A-Q?" Coclough continues. James has become somewhat hysterical. As expected, Joe Grech is ripping them up down there. At one point he was heard to say, "Just 27 left..." I did get a photo of his gigantic stupidly monstrous-huge stack, but I left the camera with Junglecat in the hopes that he might catch the unlucky bubbler in the act, as it were. Soon, my pretties, soon... Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 2: At-A-Glance Post by: danafish on January 19, 2008, 08:36:48 PM Everyone seems pleased with the payout structure this year, what with the bottom rung of the payout almost twice the buy-in rather than just slightly more than the buy-in. This information comes to the attention of Nik Persaud: "£1680?! That's big money! I might start tightening up!" It's true, I haven't seen him play a hand in half an hour.

(http://www.latestbuy.com.au/img/productImages/tripmain1.jpg) During the dinner break Jon Raab speculated that Joe's stack would already be about average for three-way on the final table. He has more now. Snoops, this is definitely the guy to nip. Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 2: At-A-Glance Post by: danafish on January 19, 2008, 08:42:46 PM By the way I found out what happened to Dubai -
He was down to 60k and was shoving every few hands; eventually he button-shoved his A-7 into Steve Jelinek's Pocket Queens. He took it very well, apparently. "Yeah, he doesn't care," said Jen. OOH, OOHHHH, the bubble's burst. Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 2: At-A-Glance Post by: JungleCat03 on January 19, 2008, 09:12:44 PM yes indeedy, the protracted bubble period is indeed at an end.
Various things happened during the bubble, such as Paul Gardner getting very short with J-J vs A-A before multiple shoves, which weren't looked up got him back into the running. Dave Colclough took some chips off Joe Grech, nicely judging a value bet with his K-K on an A-A before making a good bet for a decent amount of his stack with 2nd pair as Joe bluffed with a missed gutshot... HOWEVER, most importantly, we had our unlucky bubbler in 28th spot. James "Mcepitome" Atkin had become very short over the bubble period, missing a spot to double up earlier when he passed A-Q to no raise in the cutoff... Down to 14k or so with 4k in the BB, he was virtually committed if someone raised, although perhaps the A-Q pass from James earlier convinced Rob Garfield that he could get one through, so raise he did and James called allin, holding Ah Kh versus Rob's surprising 6-2... "This is going to be sick!" announced James and his words were to prove prophetic... The flop came 9s 4c 5h ........"OOOHHHHHHHHHHHHH" said the watching crowds, who have clearly been attending the Josh Tyler school of commentary excellence, if such an organisation exists.... The turn improved Rob's chances of outdrawing James even further as a 7h fell, meaning Rob now had an open ended straight draw. James could barely look at the river and it fell.... THE 6d! A single pair on the river was sufficient to give Rob the popt and consign James to the growing ranks of nearly men, leaving the casino to console themselves with fish, chips, gravy and large and bountiful quantities of ale... Here is James, taking his defeat in good grace and managing to squeeze a smile out despite his beat... (http://blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=8209&g2_serialNumber=1) And here is Rob, happy to burst the bubble and increase the size of his piles...of chips. "Joe tried to bluff me," said DC, and winked. Umm.

Facing a button raise from Rob (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=381) Garfield (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=381), Dave re-raised allin and was called pretty sharpish by Rob, who was holding Ah-Kh. Dave sighed and flipped over As 6c. A board devoid of 6s transpired meaning Dave's slightly mis-timed move failed to pay off and he departs leaving in 19th place or so... Here is Dave sans chips but wearing a big smile as he leaves the tournament to deserved mumbles of "well played" by his tablemates. Here's a reminder of the payout structures. 1st Place £86,800 plus seat in Grand Final 2nd Place £46,200 3rd Place £30,800 4th Place £22,400 5th Place £16,800 6th Place £14,000 7th Place £11,200 8th Place £8,400 9th Place £5,600 10th Place £4,200 11th Place £2,800 12th to 15th £2,240 16th to 21st £1,960 22nd to 27th £1,680 The competition looks pretty open at this stage. Julian Thew has played sensibly all day today and finding himself near the summit as we approach the final means he will be a big threat to take down his 2nd GUKPT and roughly 27th title(ish) in a few months... Jen Mason's reputation should be spreading far and wide given her propensity to accumulate chips and run deep in virtually every worthwhile live event she plays. Can she put the icing on the cake, shake off her denigrating bacon-hair tag and take down her first GUKPT? The highly experienced Joe Grech is also very well stacked and his breadth of experience in these situations should give him an edge that lots of players here won't have. Steve Jelinek is another highly consistent player and he has kept himself well in contention all tournament and has to be taken seriously as a contender to take down the trophy. Who will win...? I'm off to join Dana as we approach the last few furlongs to see who can make it through to do battle tomorrow on the final table. Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 2: At-A-Glance Post by: danafish on January 19, 2008, 10:47:34 PM [Steve Jelinek is not a contender to take it down, as he's OUT. He was crippled by the A-K v Jen's K-K, and then ran into Roberts Cowen's cheeky Aces to finish him off. Cowen actually took out another player with the same Aces - afraid we don't know who, as he'd only just been moved to that table and no-one could tell us who it was.]
Another victim of the monster that is Grech-del has gone - this time the shortstacked Alan Dean. Nik Persaud raised utg and Alan Dean flat called. Grech got himself some kidn of read, and re-raised to around 60k - enough to cover Dean. Nik got out of the way pretty sharpish, and Dean proceeded to dwell and squirm. Eventually he declared, "You know what I've got," and called. Alan Dean - Th Td Joe Grech - Kd Qd Board - 9c Qs 6c Aspades 8s There was some good-natured handshaking, and Grech the Great marauds on. Would that I felt I had time to photoshop a pirate hat on him or something. Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 2: At-A-Glance Post by: danafish on January 19, 2008, 10:55:33 PM By the way the second gent who fell prey to Roberts Cowen's Pocket Rockets (when Mr Jelinek went out) was Colin Linton.
Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 2: At-A-Glance Post by: JungleCat03 on January 19, 2008, 11:14:00 PM An enormous hand just played out between Jen Mason and Julian Thew...
I joined the action on a flop of 7c 8c 9s contested three way between Jen, Julian and Roberts Cowen. Julian had 50k in front of him laid out as a bet and Roberts Cowen considered getting involved before passing. The action moved round to Jen, who clicked and shuffled her chips in her unique, deliberate thoughtful way as she pondered the ramifications of the different options open to her.....before quietly announcing "ALLIN." Julian leaned back in his chair and sighed, apparently not too overjoyed at this turn of events...the lack of insta-passing meant he clearly had some sort of big decision to make here though. Could he call off his remaining 140k or so chips? After much face rubbing, smiling at Jen and contemplation he finally made the call, turning over 9-8 for top 2 pair. Jen tabled T-T for an overpair and open ended straight draw. A huge coin flip then but who would emerge victorious? The turn was the...As. The river was the 9h! This gave Julian a winning full house, an enormous pot and a massively relieved expression. Jen looked shell shocked as she complimented Julian on a nice hand. She lost a lot of chips on this hand but is still left with roughly 100k, which she is well capable of spinning up. Here is a shot of the aftermath of the hand, so gripping not even the merest glimpse of Dena's cleavage can draw you away from the action I bet...well.... Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 2: At-A-Glance Post by: danafish on January 20, 2008, 12:20:31 AM Most recent OUTage is Woody Deck. He's currently having a drink in the bar with Jen and told me his story:
Fabio Esposito ("the little Italian guy" a la Words Of Woody) was "pissed off" with Woody for "outplaying him" in an earlier hand, and as a result had raised Woody's big blind from the button four times in a row. Eventually Woody called him with A-8 offsuit, which was "not something I'd usually do", but this time Fabio (Faaaabioooo!) had pocket Tens. What can you do. Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 2: At-A-Glance Post by: JungleCat03 on January 20, 2008, 12:37:06 AM Shock Horror! We have jsut witnessed two eliminations.
First off the hoodied Farbod Javad shoved when it was folded round to him in the small blind. Jim Reid took little time to call with his Ahrt Kh, and Farbod showed his frustration fist-clench style as he turned over his dominated As Th. The board came 4-K-T-8-4, meaning, since Jim's enormous stack more than consumed that of Farbod, that Javed Farbod is out in 11th to the congratulations, hugs and handshakes from his assembled supporters on the rail... 10 remained at this point but any suggestion that this would mean a laborious drawn out process as the players tried to outlast each other was shattered soon afterwards. Rob Garfield raised to 25k from mid position (5k/10k/500)on Joe Grech's big blind... "He loves your blind!" exclaimed Nik Persaud, possibly cheekily trying to encourage a little action to boost his chances of making the final table...possibly. He needn't have worried as Karim Louis called from the small blind, and Joe felt obliged to call the extra 15k for value and did. The flop came an action packed Jc Qc Kc. Karim now moved allin for what was Rob entire stack of 150-200k. Rob stood up and rubbed his forehead as he tried to make a decision... Eventually...HE CALLED! Karim showed Jd Js for bottom set whilst Rob showed Ac 9d for a gutshot, nut flush draw and gutshot royal flush draw. All eyes were on the Dena as she flipped over the turn which was the 9c, meaning Rob was now in the driver's seat with the nut flush. The river fell the ....9s though, which meant Rob's flush was now redundant, ruined on the river by Karim's splendid and final-table-bubble-bursting full house! What an exciting culmination to today's play! As the players were now reduced to the final 9, this brought an immediate end to proceedings. We have some photos of the final drama to share with you, which will be appearing shortly and we will be passing out accurate chip counts for the final 9 players any time now...
