Title: Pokerstars.com EPT Warsaw: Day 3 - At A Glance
Post by: NoflopsHomer on March 14, 2008, 12:04:12 PM
Day 3 then. 26 players remain, but with more than half of them starting with less than 100k and the blinds 2.5k/5k, expect the action to start fast and furious but then really slow down as we get close to the final table. Hello!

We're taking turns at the moment ferrying ourselves and our precious camera up and down the lift to the casino, so you get an exit courtesy of Homer and then one of my own to report...

On Table Homer:

OK this isn't an exit but it's worth reporting:  Janusz Petlic doubles through Sebastian Ruthenberg with Aspades Ks vs. Ahrt Qd.

But this is:  Raul Paez Corral made his stand with 5h 5s, but the Ahrt 3h of Kenneth Hicks Jr. hit straight away like so:  Ad Td Kd 7d 3s.  Raul finished 26th, and play continued in the pretty intense atmosphere now surrounding the final three tables.  Pictured:  Kenneth Hicks, Jr. and in the white shirt just finishing his post-knockout interview, Raul.

Then Andreas Hagen raises in early position to 16,500.  Neighbour Michael Schulze (both pictured) re-raises to 40k.  Back to the short-stacked Hagen, who says, uncharacteristically, "I can get lucky once.  I go all in."  Pretty much instacall from Schulze: on their backs!
Hagen:  Ac Qc
Schulze: Aspades Kh

Flop:  Th 6s 5s
Turn: 7d
River: Jd

Handshakes all round and one of Homer's picks exits the comp in 25th...

Sebatian Ruthenberg, my remaining pick, manages to double up with Ad 8h against Piergiorgio D'ancona's Kd Jd.

Next Christoffer Sonnesson doubles up with Jd Jc against Kenneth Hicks Jr's Ac Td.

Antonio Battisti flops a dream 3c 2s 4c and gets all his chips in with Aspades 5h against Dan B. Pedersen's Ac Jd on the Ad turn to double up.

Trond Eidsvig doubles through Daniel Woolson, all-in on a 3c 8h Tc board with Qh Th vs Ad 8c, though the 9c turn caused Trond to pull a face like this:

Ts river, though and the inform Scandie stays in the comp.

Craig Hopkins lost a few chips earlier betting 18k on a Kd Aspades Qc Kc Jc board but folding to Ricardo Sousa's all-in with Ac 2c. He's been pushing a lot though and is yet to be called.

Just had word of two exits, Jen should be along shortly with the details.

It's honestly an all-in a minute down there.  Lee Jones is doing a great job alerting us when one of the tables has such a press-worthy situation, so it's actually pretty exciting.  In my last stint at the tables I saw no fewer than three players eliminated:

1)  Andy Black

Really danger-short now, he moved in with Qd Jc and was called by the Apple Hopkins with his Ad 5c.  Hopkins was nearly as short as Black, so when the board came out Ac 4c 6s Ahrt by which time Andy was drawing dead, they needed to count down the stacks to ascertain that the eccentric player was actually out.  He was.  Pic:  Hopkins.

2)  Dan Bitsch Pedersen

Ahrt 9s his final hand vs. the A-J of Jean Claude Perrot (pictured stacking with injured hand).  All low board (although a double straight draw on the turn which gave brief hope) meant that back to back exits nearly meant I left the room...

But I didn't which is lucky because right then Lee Jones announced, "Cooler on Table Two," which it was.  Trond had the Ac Ahrt, Henrik Gwinner picked up the Kc Kd - it all went in pre and Gwinner exited in 22nd.  Trond on the absolute tear now.

Spoke to the Apple this morning.

Don't you just love it when a plan comes together.

Carnage candy!

First Sebastian Ruthenberg out Janusz Petlic with Nines vs Eights on a 6-high board.

Antonio Battisti busts Ken Hicks Jr with Jacks vs Nines.

Michael Schulze cripples Christoffer Sonnesson with 5c 5s vs Ahrt Ac on a Kh Jh 5d 2c 6s board, all-in on the flop. Schulze then follows up and busts him with A-6 vs Q-4.

Craig Hopkins raises to 14k, Ricardo Sousa re-raises to 40k, folded back to Craig who moves in for another 81k. Ricardo calls with Qd Qs, Craig shows Ahrt Kd.

7d 3c 5h Qc 5d

Craig Hopkins is out in 18th place. He's not too down though, "I had won three races earlier."

With Sonesson falling in 17th, it was next the turn of Seppo Parkkinen (pictured with his initials helpfully on his hat, should it become misplaced).
He appeared to have waited until the flop: 8d 3s Qc to move in (stop and go style, perhaps - missed initial round) called promptly by Ricardo Sousa.
Parkkinen:  Ad 6c
Sousa: 9s 9c

5d 3d on the turn and river and he finishes 16th.  I don't think it's ever gone so fast on a Day Three.

Another hand of great interest, Jari-Pekka Juhala gets it all in with 2c 2s against the rather imposing Ad Ahrt of Antonio Battisti.
Flop:  4s 5s 6s   Now we're interested...
Turn:  7c  This means a three no longer gives the pot to the Deuces, but the spade is still live :)
River: 3c

;kc;

Battisti will probably be alright judging from his jacket - on it a list of the "greatest players" as you can probably make out, and although my Italian isn't so great, I think the list emphatically ends: 'Io' - 'Me.'

We simply can't keep up with the exits!!!!

We're down to 11!

First William Johnson gets all-in with Kd Qh on a 8s Qs 4d board, but Ricardo Sousa has 4h 4c. No help for the American and he's gone.

Michael Schulze calls Jari-Pekka Juhola's Ahrt 7s all-in with Kd Kh, the board ends up a very entertaining:

7c Kc 3d 7c Ks

And Juhola is OUT.

In the meantime Daniel Woolson doubles through Trond Eidsvig with Ad Qd vs 7c 7s after flopping a Queen.

Next!

Mehdi Ouakhir raises to 13k from the cut-off, Daniel Woolson calls in the small blind, and Sebastian Ruthenberg pushes from the big blind. Mehdi calls and Daniel folds

Sebastian: 9c 9s

Mehdi: Kh Kd

2s 7c 3c 2h 8c

And after a brief countdown, Mehdi has about 5k more than the German, and my last pick is gone :(

At the same time, Ricardo Sousa and Claus Nielsen are playing a huge pot on the other table.

Claus raises to 17k from UTG and Ricardo calls from the button.

Jd 3s 5c

Claus bets 44.5k and Ricardo calls.

Td

Claus now fires out 56k and Ricardo calls after a dwell.

2d

Claus checks, Ricardo bets 90k, Claus grimaces and passes.

Michael Schulze raises to 20k, crazy Italian Antonio Battisti re-raises to 80k, passed back to the German, who thinks for a moment and moves all-in, Antonio looks pained, but despite having nearly 250k left, calls!

Schulze shows Td Ts

Antonio throws down Aspades Js

4s Kh 8d 7c 2d

The Italian is out and Schulze is now on 700k.

La France Watch please

Some news about Jean-Claude Perrot ??

I am afraid he was our 11th place finisher (winning 100,520zloty / €28,456) minutes ago...

It was all in preflop for your last remaining Frenchman, with 7c 7d.  He was given a spin by Ricardo Sousa holding Kd Js...

The board brought Ahrt Ad Jh straight away, so by the 3s river he was hoping for just two outs... the river 2d wasn't one of them.

The multiple busting of both Michael Schulze and Ricardo Sousa have propelled their stacks to ridiculous heights in comparison to the others on their respective tables.  I am going to hazard a guess of 800k for Schulze and ONE MILLLLION for Sousa.

Chips counted by Lena of Pokerstars are on their way, though....

These WERE the rough chip counts courtesy of Lina Olofsson from Pokerstars which were just not quick enough to preempt the busting of Nielsen.  But they give you a good idea of the texture of the final...

Michael Schulze    930000    304  (+237k)
Ricardo Sousa    830000    102
Juan Maceiras     492000    208
Mehdi Ouakhir     325000    203
Mathias Viberg    245000    104
Claus Nielsen     237000    305   (OUT)
Trond Erik Eidsvig     210000    201
Daniel Woolson     173000    206
Christian Öman     122000    107
Niclas Svensson    90000    103
