Title: PaddyPower.com Irish Open: Day 2 - At A Glance
Post by: NoflopsHomer on March 22, 2008, 01:06:47 PM
Welcome back to the Irish Open where Frenchman Eric Larcheveque leads the field with just shy of 100k in chips, with some more well known players such as Conor Tate, Maz Nawab and Nick Goodall in the top ten. The feature table is up and ready to go.

"Who would have thought Doyle Brunson would be on it?" asks Mick McCloskey.

Shuffle up and deal! If anyone fancies watching the feature table, it starts on Irish TV in 2 hours - quite possibly those of you not in the UK could work out some way to watch it over the magic of the interweb. Doyle Brunson playing, Dena Hassan dealing. Everything you ever wanted.

Steve Jelinek and Trond Eidsvig share a giggle. Steve had gone to raise but it had been noticed that one of the other player's cards had a massive folded dent in it. Ruling was called for and a misdeal was declared, Steve had to hand in his pocket Kings.

Roberto Romanello, "I don't fancy my chances, can we chop?" as he holds 7d 7c for most of his stack against Aspades Js on a Th 9s 8s board. Too many bullets to dodge, it turns out as a flush comes on the turn.

Please could you keep us updated on the progress of Des Wilson and pass on my support? Ty.

Good non-bokkage work Snoops.

Des has doubled up courtesy of table partner John Conroy, his A-5 holding versus John's K-8 in a preflop coup.

Look how happy he is...bless. Up to 18k or so now. Don't get a nosebleed Des!

Bit of a nasty table for full time poker pro/ part time Brian Blessed impersenator Lloyd O' Farrell. He'll have to watch out for these two fellows lurking to his right, Julian and Sorel. He has position on them, which is one thing in his favour.

Here are the dangerous duo...

Yes yes indeed, Stu Rutter filled me in on the demise of the Dag. Apparently he celebrated so much with his pocket Tens on the Eight-high flop that everyone thought he had a set or something, but God must have heard and taken exception to the early celebrations because he was indeed gone with all those Aces on the turn and river and whatnot.

Also OUT is Jean Pierre Perrera, Mr Al Pacino of yesterday's update.

Meanwhile a triple-up for Maria Maceiras, about whom Junglecat feels the same way that I feel about Trond. :) :) :)

Thomas Dunwoodie makes it 3k, and Maria shoves for her remaining not-so-many-k. Peter Malbasha throws his chips in behind her as well (he has only very slightly more than she does. Thomas Dunwoodie mulls and mulls, and eventually converts some of that mulling into the motivation to call.

Thomas Dunwoodie - 7s 7h
Peter Malbasha - Qd Qc
Maria Maceiras - Aspades Ahrt

"Oh," says Dunwoodie, "That wasn't the two Ace-Queens I was hoping for."

Board - 5d 8s 2c 8h Jd

Triple-up for Maceiras, and the small-change side pot for the almost-certainly-not-long-for-this-tournament Malbasha.

I thought Dave Colclough was down to 8k or so, but that's because I was failing to realise that the chips slightly in front of the 8k stack comprised a chunky re-raise to Mr Shall-Not-Be-Named-On-This-Site's 4k bet on an 8c 8h 9s flop. Mr Shall-Not-Be-Named-On-This-Site passed.

Neil Channing is excited. "There's only five of us left in the last longer!" Himself, Mike Ellis, Bambos, Rory Liffey and Norman.

Bambos has just taken a dent though. He check-called a 7,550bet from John 'Rock Star' Conroy on a Td 5h 2d Jc board, but then passed to Conroy's 20k or so all-in push on the 5s river. Conroy showed Ac 3c. Cheeky monkey!

Jeffrey Sharp has just doubled up shortstack Gavin Moir, Gavin's T-T flippping successfully against Jeffrey's A-K.

(Gavin's the jovial shiny headed chap on the left, Jeffrey's the youthful lad on the right - I hope!)

Eoghan O'Dea has converted his microscopic stack back into a mere short stack, doubling through with A-K against Andreas Hedman's A-J...

News has reached me that Roland De Wolfe has just been involved in a big coup. Reputedly he held T-T in a preflop raised pot, shoved the Q hi flop, but was called pretty quickly by mateyboy's A-Q.

No worries though as Roland spiked his T to win the pot.

Julian Thew button raises and LuckyLloyd moves all-in from the big. Eventually Julian calls for his stack, (both have around 17k). Lloyd taps the table and says, "Good call," showing 9c 7c. Julian shows Kh Js

Board:

6d Th 3s 4c Ks

"Great call, I don't know how you make it." Lloyd says.

Lloyd is left with about 800 chips and to compound his misery, he's all in blind vs a midposition raise only to discover he has A-K vs A-9, his water bottle goes flying six feet in the air in frustration, and then makes the nut straight to prolong the agony. The table is then broken, Lloyd is still in, but only just. Julian has 35k.

Julian is a little frustrated with Sorel, who has been busier than a workaholic ant in a sweat shop working overtime.

"He's been raising loads...first time i repop him from 2k to 6k, he shoves over the top. SIGHHHH!!"

Come on Julian, don't let Sorel mess you around!

Maz gives me the thumbs up as I approach his table indicating he is happy with proceedings. I miss the thumbs up with my camera but capture him in the midst of saying " I liiike..." Borat-styleee. Allegedly.

Dave C - 8d 8h

Dan B - Th Jh

Board - Kc 3h 6c Js 5h

...and Colclough was a hair's breadth away from the felt.

Double up for Ken Tyrell, running his A-K into Sorel Mizzi's Q-Q and hitting a required A on the flop to double him up. Julian's hair tried to take the glory but in reality it was just an incidental bystander.

Derya Apuhan has been eliminated. Holding A-K, he was happy to see his shove had been called by A-J but a J high flop ("NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" + 15 more Os was the predictable and heartfelt lament from Derya as the Jack hit) and no kings consigned him to the rail.

You can see his executioner grinning to himself in the bottom corner...

A bad beat for Mr Kevin Daly, related to me by him from the consoling warmth of the rail:

He raised to 3.5k with Aces and the big blind called. The flop came down Ten-high, all clubs. Kevin was feeling pretty confident, what with one of his Aces being the Ac and everything, and imagine his delight when the BB pushed for 20k or so with T-J, to just cover Kevin, and imagine his dismay when Mr BB spiked a Jack. Unlucky, Mr Daly.

Maria Maceiras just shoved over the top of an UTG raise to 3.5k from I beleive Samuel Lethanon. Another 8050 more to call, he was getting roughly 2-1 but after some head scratching he passed.

Here's Maria having added a nice chunk to her stack.

Time for another Thewy...blah...blah...golden...etc...story. :D

Thewy raises it up and get's one caller. They see a 7-8-9 flop, Jules bets small and the guy calls, before it all goes in on the King turn. The other player has K-Q, Julian has 6-5 and flopped the straight. He has 55k now.

Soren Kongsgaard is OUT, he raised with Tens and Dave Masters flat-called with Queens and it all went in on an 8-high board. Here's a very smiley Mr Masters. Soren is already eyeing up the PLO cash games.

Any word on how Adam fallon is gettin on?

Gary Clarke just told me Adam Fallon was short and went out with 8d 6d against A-T.

Pete Linton, "I just lost my biggest pot of the tournament. With Nine Deuce." He'd raised with 9-2 and was c/raised all-in on a J-9-7 board, he thought the other guy was at it, turned out, he had K-J. Pete still has 25k ish left.

Young scandinavian Cecelia Borg has been a shortstack for quite a while now but she just doubled through. Holding J-Q versus the pocket fours of Robert Willis in a preflop confrontation.

Willis thought he could knockout Borg but she showed resistance was futile as  a decisive flop of A-K-T was met with "ooooohs" from the table and Borg assimilated Willis' chips into her stack. Go cute robotic scandinavian chicks!

Graham Clarkson is extremely pleased with himself. He bounded up to me during the colour-up break to say that one Mate E. Boy had raised to 2.7k. Graham looked down and found Kings, so he made it 8.4k. Mr Boy then made it 22k, and Graham thought about it and passed Kings for what he tells me is the first time ever in a big comp. Mateyboy showed him those inducers of foldy smugness, the Pocket Rockets.

He says hi to his blonde railers, by the way.

Kyle moved allin and Damien called!

Cards on their backs and a coldeck situation of QQ for Damien and KK for Kyle was the result...

The flop was a sensational, yet changing nothing, Kh Qs 4s

TURN: 8c

RIVER: Kh!

SO Damien Glavin falls victim to Kyle's mighty quads, his full house NO GOOD and we have yet another casualty!!

James Honeybone -- 45k

Thomas Fourgeron has a little Gallic smile on his face after being all-in with A-Q vs A-K and hitting a A-x-x-Q-Q board to double up.

Surprisingly we think despite 'only' having just over 100k+, Dave Masters might still be chip leader, it seems very finally balanced over here.

William Martin just busted Paul Baird, with a huge pound of delight onto the table when he hit a third Seven with his 7-7 vs Baird's 9-9.

Mr James McKnight is OUT, T-T against William Haughey's A-T all in at some point between preflop and the river (sorry, missed that bit; I'm guessing the likeliest is the all-in-preflop-and-ugly-outdraw scenario) on an A-8-Q-K-9 board.

Chip count for Willie Haughey please?  Ohh and Texas Dolly

Doyle Brunson just went OUT. Classic Glasgow... :D :D :D

Abel Meijberg raised to 4,800 and Doyle called as did the small blind.

8h 7d 2s

Abel bet out 9k, Doyle raised to 30k and Abel moved in with Queens, Doyle, who was covered, called with 8c 7c, but the turn was the 2h to counterfeit the two pair whilst the river was a no help 4h. A hearty round of applause greeted the big man as he left the room but now we're starting to run short on legends... :(

SICKO POT OF THE DAY ALERT!

Pete Linton raised preflop and the BB called.

The flop came Kh Qs 7d.

BB Check, Pete Linton (who had him covered) sets him in...

CALL says the BB. Pete doesn't look too happy as he gingerly turns over... Js 2s.

"Please tell me I'm ahead!" he says optimistically but the BB confidently tables Kd Qc for top 2. Not much hope for Pete but using my (http://thumbs.photo.net/photo/2230387-sm.jpg) I spy a couple of backdoor draws out there...

TURN:  8s - oooohhhhh.

RIVER: As !

OMG. The unfortunate recipient of this sick beat immediately (http://www.golfpunkonline.com/blog/content/binary/SickCat.jpg) throws up and hits the table so hard all the chipson the table jump into the air.

He grabs his Brunson-esque leather jacket and departs the table, whilst Pete can't resist a cheeky little smile! SOOOOOO SICK but NH sir!

Bye bye leather-jacketed Mateyboy...(bad time for cow-skin clothing imo)

While I was counting Mr Tate's chips, Padraig Parkinson announced all in pre. So did Mr Shaun Craig. Everyone else got out of the way...

Padraig -  Ahrt Qd
Shaun -  Aspades Ks

Board - a very unfortunate 7c 9d Qs Qc Tc

I think I may have captured the exact moment when Mr Craig's heart breaks. Double up for Padraig!

Qc 7s 7c board.

Julian Thew has checked and seat 4 has set him all-in. Thewy has about 30k left and there's 30k in pot. Eventually Julian calls for his tournament life with Ts Ts, Seat 4 taps the table and shows Ac Ks.

Julian up to 100k as he's congratulated by Dave Gregory and Maria Maceiras for making a big call.

Double up for Mr Check Shirt Man here, courtesy of blue-hoodied Donal Norton - Ks Jc v Aspades 6s

Board - 3c 7h 8s Kh 2d

Says Mr Check Shirt Scandie Man, "Soren!"

Says his friend on the rail, "Soren."

Mr Check Shirt Scandie Man, nodding: "Soren."

(Token norkage left in.)

But just a few hands later, and Check Shirt Scandie Man is OUT -  Ahrt Qh up against the Jc Jh of Purple Shirt Flushy-A-Like.

Board - 3c 5c 5h Ac (at this point Check Shirt Scandie Man is looking pleased with himself, but Purple Shirt Flushy-A-Like is pointing ominously towards the Jc in his hand - although ultimately it is not the Club that will be important because) Js

Flop - 3d Qc 3c and someone says "He's drawing dead."

And no sooner said than bokked -

Turn - 7c

River - 9c

Poor old Carmel.

On the feature table, Collette Murphy just pushed her shortstack in for the umpteenth time (well about 5th) and AT LAST someone found a hand to call her...Padraig Parkinson calling with A-Q, which was obviously good against her range, and in fact her specific hand... T-J.

The flop came Q-5-K to give hope to both players but a 2s turn and 7h river failed to provide Collette with her required straight, meaning Parkinson adds to his bulging stack and the tournament becomes a smurf-free zone.

Good game Collette.

Conor Tate has knocked out Visor Man Dan Alspach on the TV table, calling him with A-J, Dan holding Pocket Eights.

Board - Q-A-4-9-4

By the way as I was typing that up, Junglecat starting laughing hysterically at me. Apparently he was sort of squinting at my screen, and where I had written "Conor Tate has knocked out Visor Man Dan Alspach", he thought I had written "Conor 'Take my knickers out' something something". Explosive Action!!

John Kabbaj sits down and raises to 5.5k the first hand he plays. two seats down the line, Sorrel Mizzi re-raises to 16.2k. Passed back to Kabbaj who thinks for a minute and then says, "Raise," he puts out the 30k, but no sooner has he done that then Sorrel has announced all-in. Kabbaj shrugs his shoulders and says, "Call." He turns over Ad Ahrt. Sorrel shows Aspades Kc

7s Qc 3s 4d 5h

They count down Kabbaj's chips and he has 79.6k before the hand, so now he's over 160k and vying with Pete Linton for the chip lead. Sorrel knocked down to betweem 40k and 50k.

Holding J-J, he called for most of his stack, and was rewarded to find he wasn't dominated but marginally ahead of Dan's A-Q...

Completely bonkers Soren Jensen is OUT, racing his Nines against Ace King. As the 6h 8c Ks 7s Kc board came out, Soren was gesturing and shouting in his usually barmy way, this time it came out, "Come long come long, sue me sue me!!!"

Surinder calls a shortstack's push holding 3-3. Shortstacked mateyboy was caught with his fingers in the till but glad to be racing with his 4c 6c.

No 4's or 6's appeared though and Surinder consigns another to the rail, and has done well to work his little stack into something more respectable, holding close to 40k now...

Another shortstack mateyboy (who may well have been Robert Cazali ) piles his chips into the middle for 20k, only to find a bigger stacked, but similarly mateyboy-like (although possibly called Tyler Reiman) player shove behind for 70k. All pass leaving the battle of th matey's heads up.

Matey one shows A-J - not bad
Matey two shows Q-Q - much better.

FLOP: Ac 3s Td

"Ooohhhh" cry the assembled flock of railbirds.

TURN: Qh

"OOOOOHOOHHOOHOHOOHOHO" cry the gathering of rail-tastic supporters even louder!

RIVER:.......3h

"hmhmhmmmyumbesthandwonintheendhmjunglecatpwnsmhmhm" mumble the rail seemingly somewhat disappointed at the anticlimactic rivercard.

WHATEVER! Matey one, probably Cazali departs from the tourney, agonisingly close to the bubble!

78 left now and counting...

Pete Linton has lost a few chips...

Holding A-Q he saw an As Qh 5d flop.

"I check called an 11k bet..."

Turn was the 8d.

I checked again, checked behind.

RIVER: 6d

"I bet out 20k and he raised anohter 30k. You've got Ad Td haven't you?

I called. He showed Ad Td. Annoyed with myself i knew what he had but couldn't pass...!"

He's still doing well at 100k + though...

Graham Clarkson is OUT, recipient of a sick beat vs John Kabbaj.

John held Q-Q, Graham A-A. Nothing till the river....then Q!

Poor Graham...

Tim Blake has just augmented his stack whilst simultaneously knocking out a mateyboy his 5-5 holding vs matey's 3-3.

Go go Tim!

George Geary went out earlier. Nicky Romanello and Mick McCloskey are also out.

Abel Meijberg (spelling) and Donal Norton have created a 250k pot, holding 8-2 and A-Q of spades respectively.

The board was K-8-2 with two spades and it all ended up in the pot. A Queen appeared on the turn for extra outs, but a spade on the river nailed it for Norton. Abel is forced to nurse his remaining 30k.

Holding A-A he found some action from Rumit for his 43k stack, rumit holding Q-Q.

I have photos of that Tim Blake hand, but there is absolute craziness here!

Young Gentleman In Stripy Top A shoves with 7h Js, and both Padraig Parkinson and Young Gentleman In Stripy Top B find Aces! There's a crowd about 15 deep and actually it looks like they're stacked two or three high as well (photos to follow).

Board - 7d (WOOOOOOOO!!!!!! says the crowd) 5s 6h Qs (dealer pauses for unnecessarily long time) Qd

And Young Gentleman In Stripy Top A (to be identified shortly) is OUT and we have hit the bubble proper...

Chris Peddigrew is the unlucky bubble finisher holding 2-2 versus the K-J of hsi opponent.

A lone K on the flop meant he finished in that unenviable spot of one off the money with all dreams of glory, norkage, or even a small cahs profit washed away in bitter tears.

Peddigrew actually took his beat quite well, saying "I had a blast!" as he departed.

Everything has obviously gone crazy, so I shall give you the very brief version of what I witnessed in about 3 minutes behind the rail, and photos will follow.

Double-ups:

Eric Larcheveque, with Kings against Thomas Finneran's A-K. Finneran looked like he was going to be sick when he saw Larcheveque's hand. Larcheveque making victory signs at his railers.

I believe one Sean Prendiville, with Eights against someone else's Aces (sorry, I wrote down a number which turns out to be Graham Clarkson; it was not him) - Eight on the flop.

Annette O'Carroll, with Q-9 against Pete Linton's A-J. Two Jacks on the flop. I believe she is now OUT though, in an unrelated hand, obviously.

OUT:

David Albertson, our man-with-the-suits-tattooed-on-his-arm from earlier today, with Jacks against A-K, King on the flop. He looked shellshocked and repeatedly asked me where he had to go to collect his money. I repeatedly didn't know.

can you please tell me Lam Van Trinh still in?

Yup, he's just above average with 130 or 140k.

We've just lost one-hand Rumit, the Queens into Aces hurt him, and he's just gone with Fives into Kings. 57 left.

James Honeybone is on the phone by the rail. Looks like another victim of the post-cashing shovefest.

Last-minute out-ages:

Simon Hennessey, holding Q-T, to John Conroy, holding A-Q. Not sure when the chips went in, but there was an Ace and a Queen on the board.

Magnus Hulden, whose awesome heavy metal beard stylings I am sad to say I have not photographed, holding K-T to Lam Trinh's J-Q. Queen on the flop.

The media have now been kicked out of the tournament area, and the clock has stopped, which suggests to me that it is basically hometime...

Dave Masters' downfall was A-K vs K-K.

John Kabbaj has managed to knock out a stack right at the end. He held Q-4 on a Q-4-9 board vs K-9 which held.

Lam Trinh

Neil Channing and the last PaddyPower qualifier emphasise how we are all feeling now.
