Title: PaddyPower.com Irish Open: FINAL TABLE
Post by: NoflopsHomer on March 24, 2008, 01:08:28 PM
It's final table time here in Dublin's CityWest Hotel with play beginning at 2pm. Which one of our plucky remaining players will be taking home the crown and the €800,000 prize money?

Seat 2: Tim Blake -- 912,000
Seat 3: Kai Danilo Paulsen -- 716,000
Seat 4: Thomas Dunwoodie -- 544,000
Seat 5: Edwin Tournier -- 562,000
Seat 6: Donal Norton -- 1,164,000

Prize money:

1st -- €801,400
2nd -- €420,000
3rd -- €275,000
4th -- €220,000
5th -- €175,000
6th -- €135,000

Can the Channing Express be stopped?

Not yet. The technicians are still fiddling with cameras and eating croissants so it may be a short time before things actually kick off.

Plus Neil Channing is still in make up...

Who can stop the Tim-inator???

Title: Re: PaddyPower.com Irish Open: FINAL TABLE
Post by: JungleCat03 on March 24, 2008, 03:09:26 PM
We have had an elimination...

A little tricky to follow the earlier action, Donal Norton set Edwin Tournier in on the river of a J-J-4-Q-K board.

Edwin tabled K-7 for top pair, but Donal's J-T trips were MILES ahead, meaning we have our first elimination of the day and

..........Dutchman Edwin Tournier is OUT, eliminated in 6th spot, winning €135,000.

With that coup, popular Irishman Donal Norton has boosted his chip stack considerably to a total of 1.6 million!!!!!!!!! chips.

Title: Re: PaddyPower.com Irish Open: FINAL TABLE
Post by: NoflopsHomer on March 24, 2008, 03:13:13 PM
Donal raises to 140k. Neil re-raises to 400k. Donal passes and unlike when the Irishman won the earlier pots, there's a silence around the room from this partisan crowd.

Neil raises to 145k on the button, he takes the blinds.

Neil is at it again, 145k from the cut-off. Tim Blake makes it 400k from the button and Neil folds.

Other than that early elimination play so far has been relatively quiet...

Neil has been the most aggressive thusfar, but no one has challenged his preflop raises yet, meaning he has picked up several sets of chunky blinds (93k!)

As if to illustrate this point conveniently for me Channing makes it 200k from the SB on Tim's BB

Tim quickly passes though, refusing to take on Channing yet...

Soon after Tim raises to 125k on the button, but this time he meets resistance from Kai who re-raises to 350k...

The Tim-inator backs down this time....but he'll be back...

Donal Norton has re-raised the Channingator all in - that's twice in a row for the Norton/Channing re-raising. Eek. Both times the Channingator has passed, as though Neil-ing before his Donal-tar, or something. More coffee, please.

Post by: danafish on March 24, 2008, 03:32:20 PM
In fact no-one is taking any nonsense from the Jokinator. Neil is raising every hand, and then passing it when he's re-raised. Most recently - Neil makes it 160k, and passes when Kai makes it 450k.

I have to say, the lack of announcing until such a time as someone goes all in, combined with the putting of the TV table in a little arena such that we can't see what's going on up there, is putting a bit of a damper on us actually reporting the regular everyday raise-button-everybody-fold/check-check-check-bet-everybody-fold/brutal-murder-of-everybody-with-poison-gas etc action...

Title: Re: PaddyPower.com Irish Open: FINAL TABLE
Post by: JungleCat03 on March 24, 2008, 03:48:26 PM
Tim raises it up to 150k, Donal calls...

4c Ad 3c

Both players check it quickly.

TURN: 9h.

Donal bets 200k, the Tim-inator lays it down swiftly and Donal takes it down to raucous cheers from his boisterous fan base!!

Thomas Dunwoodie moves all-in from the small blind and Donal Norton calls instantly.

Thomas: Aspades Jd

Donal: Ad Th

Board: Js Kd 8s Tc 9c

"Goooo oooooooooooooooon Tommy," shout a few deep-voiced men in the audience.

He now has just over 700k.

Donal limps utg, Thomas checks in the big blind.

9-7-5 (no suits are announced)

Check check

Ahrt

Thomas checks, Donal bets 100k, Thomas calls.

Jc

Both players check, Thomas' 8-5 is good enough against Donal's King high.

Tim makes it 200k-inator to go, but nobody wants to to mess with him and he picks up the blinds, to some half-hearted applause from the largely pro-Donal audience.

The announcer, who has possibly been nudged into announcing a bit more than previously, is apparently so unimpressed with the level of action that he is re-announcing the earlier exit of Edwin Tournier.

WOW! Big big big pot alert...

Neil Channing and Kai Danilo Paulsen see a 6d 8c Ks flop and I beleive Kai bet and Channing called.

The turn is the Ts.

Bet from Kai of 150k ish, raise from Channing to 450k.

Kai now tanks...Neil sits there patiently with his arms crossed...

...After much thought kai now moves allin, Neil instantly calls him. A brave call from Neil, turning over 7d 9h FOR THE NUT STRAIGHT!!!!

Kai shows down Kh Jd for top pair alone, meaning he is drawing dead, and an irrelevant card falls on the river. Channing receives the plaudits from the crowd, who applaud his win, whilst also giving credit to Kai for his sterling, attritional performance but that pot means...

Kai Danilo Paulsen is OUT, eliminated in 5th spot, winning €175,000.

Great game sir!

The jokinator picks up the chips and is wearing a broad grin from ear to ear...

Donal raises to 200k from the button, Neil re-raises to 600k. Donal calls.

Jerome Bradpiece says, "Seems like a monster to flat-call the 600k..."

5c Td 6c

Neil checks, Donal moves all-in and Neil folds. Eruptions of cheers from the crowd once more, seems like they're desperate to see the title stay in Irish hands, and with Norton in clear 2nd place, there's still a chance.

By the way we have a photo of the elimination of Edwin Tournier, like so:

I'm afraid a very unusual camera error ate the photos of Kai Paulsen's elimination, so instead please accept this fraudulent approximation of what that looked like:

Tim Blake moves all-in and Donal Norton calls

Tim fist pumps and shows Ad Ac, Donal shows Kc 9d and the announcer offers that Tim has both suits covered as an added bonus.

2h 4h Js 7c Qh

Tim doubles up to shouts of "COME ON TIMMMMMMMMMMMMY!" but he's only up to around 450k due to the incredibly hefty blinds and antes.

It looks like Tim now has around 400k or so in chips following that hand...

Neil raises to 180k re-raised allin by Tim!!! It's 198k to Neil to call...He has to call and does....

Tim shows Kc Jc, Neil shows Qs 6h offsuit...

The board comes.......9d Ahrt Qd! Neil shoots into the lead...

TURN: 5d

RIVER: Qh! Trips for Neil, K hi for Tim.

The Jokinator shoots down any opponent in flames, but a cracking performance from the genial and talented Tim-inator is rewarded as ...........

Tim Blake is OUT, eliminated in 4th place, winning €220,000
for his performance.

"I'll be BLAKE" says the Tim-inator as he leaves. Probably. One more picture of Tim to come...

Actually there's a delay for every hand because of the TV stuff, so it's a bit slow. Thomas Dunwoodie really needs a double up or two otherwise it'll be a Channing vs Norton heads-up

Thomas Dunwoodie moves allin, CALLED by Donal Norton!

Dunwoodie: Ac 4h
Norton: Aspades 5h!

Mild advantage for Norton with his superior kicker, but most likely to end up in a split, that is what happens when an 8c Td Jd 6h Qs board ensues.

(http://www.jefftheaddchef.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/09/pork-chop-olive-oil-kosher-salt.jpg) it up folks!

Title: Re: PaddyPower.com Irish Open: FINAL TABLE
Post by: NoflopsHomer on March 24, 2008, 05:09:53 PM
And Thomas moves in again and Norton calls. Thomas is so short at this point that he probably can't believe that his 9s 7d is ahead of Norton's 8d 5h!

2h Qc Qd 6d 4h.

Nine-high is good enough to put him up to about 800k.

His prospects still look a bit blake at the moment though.

Title: Re: PaddyPower.com Irish Open: FINAL TABLE
Post by: JungleCat03 on March 24, 2008, 05:11:50 PM
His confidence rising, Thomas shoves from the button...

Neil shoves from the small blind on Dunwoodie's BB as he did last round and Thomas CALLS!!!!

Neil: Ahrt 7c

Thomas: Ad 8h

Thomas has Neil dominated. Great chance to double through again to almost 2 million!

FLOP: 4h Qd 3c

TURN: 9c

RIVER: 7s ! OMG sick river for Channing scuppers Dunwoodie's chances of doubling through. Channing pads his stack yet further whilst...

Thomas Dunwoodie is OUT, eliminated in 3rd spot, winning €275,000
for his troubles. A great pay day for Thomas, whose superb performance receives an appropriately superb reward...

Relatively cagey heads up play so far - they are taking it in turns to steal the blinds from the button with around 150k or so. Also a degree of limping/checking/pot being awarded to whoever bets first on the flop.

I don't think so, Neil did have some money on himself at 100-1 yesterday.. We haven't seen anything like a saver or something along those lines.

On the turn of a 8c 9c 6c 8d, Donal raises Neil's bet from, I think 150k to 400k. Neil calls. The river is the Aspades, and Donal bets 400k, Neil calls and Donal shows J-8, Neil though is holding K-8. King plays and Neil takes down the first big pot of the heads-up battle.

Neil Channing - Ac 9h
Donal Norton - 5s 5c

Board - Qc Aspades Tc Kc Ahrt

...And there is Norton more the local boy can do because Donal Norton is OUT in 2nd place winning €420,000

...leaving us to conclude that Neil Channing is the WINNER!!!! of the 2008 PaddyPower.com Irish Open, winning €801,400, plus whatever ludicrous sum he won betting on himself for the win!
