Title: DTD Monthly £300 Freezeout Final Day - Interactive
Post by: Ginger on May 05, 2008, 03:30:49 PM
Good afternoon from DTD on the final day of the monthly £300 freezeout.

The 40 remaining players will soon be taking their seats, chip counts will be with you shortly as I can get my hands on the sheet.

As usual, any requests will be greatly received and we'll do our best to fulfill them - within reason!

Grandad is here playing the £100 rebuy, he is on the same table as Greek Jack and some random Norwegians ... all I can hear is "WOW" and then laughter ... I think its any 2 card syndrome as people try to accumulate a stack.

Nick Hicks has gone now ... he re raised all in with  Qs Qh and a pot committed opponent was forced to call with  Ac 8c

the flop was a rather harsh

Ad Ahrt 4c and with no Queen hitting either turn or river... Nick heads to the rail.

UL mate.

Lots of raising to steal the blinds and antes going on, no major action as yet.

Just caught the end of this hand...

roughly 20k already in the pot (hard to tell as players now seem to be using lots of 100 chips) and the board reading :

 9d Td 3c Ad 3h

Stig Moen popped in a cheeky 12k river bet, Arne Aarskog gave him a harsh stare and called.

Stig Moen was being rather hopeful with his  Ks 2h, while Arne Aarskog  Qc Qh was good for a nice pot.

It was Acid Nilsen that knocked Nick out, and he has probably just made Redsimons day by knocking out the blonde lady Vivi Saethren with  Ad Ks v her  Td Tc  Another flop with 2 aces was her downfall ... I bet she wished she called with the AJ now.

George Kennedy tries limping in early position...

Anna Chu Ping Lin raises in the cutoff to 4,8k and the blinds move aside, George calls.

both players check the  Qd Qc 4s flop, also the  Ahrt turn.... on the 9c river both check again (where has the aggression suddenly gone?!) and before anyone gets to see what either of them have, George mucks without needing to see Anna's cards.

Another shortish stack bites the dust, this time it's George Kennedy.

I got to the table with  7s Ahrt Qd on the flop, George's stack (about 27k as a guesstimate) already over the line.

Jonathan Mccann calls instantly and rather unsurprising when he flips over  Ad Qc,

Poker Gods are not smiling on George as he turns his  Qs 3s and the turn and river comes Tc  9s, he eits 30th.

Steve "Jellyfish" Jelinek is still flying the flag for Britain, he is on around 90k

"EvilPie" is down to 37k .... this could yet turn into an all Norway final table .... but lets hope we can get a couple on their to thwart the invading vikings.

Carnage has stated again it would seem, on walking through to the tournament area I saw 3 players at different tables get up and leave!

Ylva Thorsrud had just been knocked out by Dag Martin Mikkelsen, the very next hand David Tighe moves in from UTG, it passes round to Dag  who is still trying to stack his mountains of chips, he shrugs his shoulders and calls the 30k push.

 6s 6c for David Tighe

Kc  Td for Dag Martin Mikkelsen

A sigh of relief escapes David as the safe board of  Aspades 9s 7d 5c Jd comes down, he has doubled up to average stack.

Funny you should say that, I have just had the same conversation with Jen about how boring the norwegians stack their chips ... no flair these vikings, its just boring stacks ;)

I may invade a table at the next break and show these kids how to build a decent chip structure.

Apparently Evil Pie just limped with  Ac Ahrt and was lucky enough to find Arne Aarskog with Js Jc.... and got a fab double up!

I didn't catch the board but the Aces held, and now he is on roughly 70,000

Arne Aarskog leave in 26th.

Blinds are now 1200/2400 with 300 ante

24 players remain

Average stack 80,833

I think Henning just had a hand/cookie jar moment...

Raising to 7500 from LP he finds Kristian Aksnes on the button repopping it to 20k.

He looks like here isn't actually any decision to be made (but still waits a little while) before folding.

I then turn around to see what seems to be rather a lot of chips making their way into the middle (in fact they are just lots of 500 and 100 chips).

the flop is already  5d Td Qh and Graham Pound has pushed

Remo Rossi calls instantly and flips Ad Kd

Graham  Ahrt 9h

Turn  8h opening up the outs for Graham...

a cruel 9c on the river gives Graham the double up (80k ish), and leaves Remo Rossi on dust.

Neil Giblin pushes from the cutoff for 26k

Thor-andre Stang in bb decides to give it a spin..

 3s 3c for Neil

 Kd Qs for Thor

A safe board of  9c 4d Aspades 7s Th and it's another double up for a short stack (which there is rather a lot of happening.)

Blinds are now 1500/3000 - 300 ante.

Sorry for being slightly hazy on what happened up until this point, but I couldn't see who had raised from my position.....

There were several limps on the table, I assume one of the blinds had small/minimum raised...

Neil Giblin UTG+1 then pushes for 38,600

Dag Martin Mikkelsen calls (with his monster stack)

Everyone else ducks for cover.

 8c 8d for Neil

 Ahrt Qd for Dag

Ts Tc 5h Kc 6d and yet another double up for the shorties, Neil now on roughly 90k

This guy is our chip leader ... he just took a player out on a flop of  4s Qh 9s  ... all the chips flew in and his set of 9's was light years ahead of Stig Moen's  Ac Qc

Dag Martin Mikkelsen massive chippy now.

Evil Pie has just lost a 35k chunk of his stack.

David Tighe in the cutoff raised to 9k

Matt makes that universal sign for all-in, David instacalls for all his stack.

On their backs and Matt has  7h 7d v David's  Qh Qs (gulp - for Matt)

8c Ahrt Th Ac 5h and another short stack double through on the bubble.

Anna Chu Ping Lin was the unfortunate burster, pushing after a mid position raise from Torgeir Ravlo (which he called)

 Jd Jh for Anna

 Qc Qh for Torgeir

9c 6c Js ("oooooooooooohhhhh" from the crowd)

 4h

Qd for an even larger OOOOOHHHH!

Unlucky Anna.

67,000 - Neil Giblin
51,500 - Barte Ervall
150,000 - Henning Granstad
100,000 - Acid Nilsen
160,000 - Kristian Aksnes

Kristian Aksnes limps for 4k, Suketu Patel pushes with 62,000

Kristian counts out the chips and checks what his stack will be after, (around 114k) eventually he calls and Flips over  Aspades Ks

Suketu has the dominated Qd Jd

7h 4s Jh Kc 5c and no help for Mr Patel, and exits in 17th £582

Couple of hands both involving Kristian Aksnes while we wait for the final table.

Kristian raises to 18,000 from the cutoff, Henning Granstad flat calls in the bb.

 2c Ahrt 9c brings a check/check from both players.

Jd Henning now bets out 29k, Kristian counts out the bet and keeps counting.... putting a raise of 75k in.

Henning nods, taps the table and folds.

All the players fold round to Acid Nilsen in the sb, who decides to now push his stack.

Kristian asks for a count.... it's just over 100k to call

he looked like he really wants to make this call but finally passes  7c 7d face up. Acid doesn't show.

Thanks to everyone who wished me luck in this today.

After the worst performance of my short poker career in the ME I managed to figure out that to beat these Norwegians you just have to play tight. Some of their play from what I've seen is nothing short of spectacular and I have learnt so much about how poker can be played against weaker opposition.

Some of the big pots that got shown down were brilliant. A personal favourite was the 80k pot between the 2 big stacks 20k value betted on the end with K high and called by bottom pair 6's. Me and Suketu looked at each other in pure disbelief.

I don't know where they get the balls!! ;tightend; ;tightend; ;tightend;

My final hand was a bluff gone wrong unfortunately. I thought my oppo was weak when he checked the river so I shoved 67k in to an 80k pot with 9's against 2 over cards. He thought for a good 3 or 4 minutes. ;pokergods;

The call with A 7 was a good one and I can't fault the guy one bit.

Hopefully the Norwegians have enjoyed DTD and will come back next year. They're all good guys and a pleasure to play against. Lots of respect for their playing style and attitude.

Cheers all, I'm off to get drunk.

 ;dewi;

Official chip counts to come during/after the break, at the end of this level.

an Ace later and he claims another scalp

Dag goes to raise in the cutoff, but it's more of a string bet. He is told he can now only limp. and both blinds  make up, happy to see a cheap flop of  8s 6h Jc - all check.

The turn brings  9d, Kristian bets out 20k, Henning folds, Dag calls.

Qc on the river and now Kristian bets 45k, Dag goes slightly red, dwells for an age, after several minutes he counts out the chips and reluctantly calls.

Kristian  8d  8h

Dag with  9h  6c

Kristian adds another 80kish to his stack.

Dag Martin Mikkelsen got very active but has suffered from a run of hands gone bad, what looked like steals gone wrong or nerves kicking in. I was about to type them all up when this most relevant one happened...

Graham raised to 62k from UTG, folded round to Dag who pushes his stack in (not literally, but in that wavy hand motion thing)

Graham instacalls and cards are on their backs.

Graham  Qd Qs

Dag  Js Jc

Board is an uneventful  5h 7d 4s 2s Aspades and now Dag is left with dust (roughly 30ish  thousand)

Dag Mikkelson is slowly building those chips back into towers, he just called graham pounds all in on a flop of  8h 6h 2c with  3d 3h
Graham had  8s 6s only for the turn to bring a  4h and a straightastic river of  5s means he is back in it , as he just won another double up with  Qh Qd against Aksnes'  Ad 2d ...still 4 left and Steve Jelinek is sitting quietly just maintaining his stack and biding his time.

 Ad Ac for Graham

 Jh Jc for Kristian

4c 2h 9d Ahrt 8s on the board now means that Graham has added another 500k to his stack.

I met a Norwegian blondeite today, InsaneTTM came across to introduce himself, smashing fella .... a pleasure to meet you sir, and many thanks for your support of both the forum and the cardroom.

Keep up the good work guys, loved being at the place, happy to meet the updating team, and very sad to return back home tomorrow.

One thing is sure, it will not be the last trip to DTD, and hopefully/most likely next years Norwegian Champs will be at the same place.

Dag Martin Mikkelsen is our 3rd place finisher winning £6,693.

He pushed with KJ but found Aksnes  with AK and with no Jack coming to his rescue, he leaves in 3rd.

Hi Kev, great to meet you and Ginger yesterday. This guy Aksnes is the dude who outdrew my  flopped trips with a Q on the turn for the straight when he was all-in . A hand you reported on yesterday. I knew my chips were blessed, pity I couldnt hold on to them.   Is this a good time to tell him he is a lucky so and so ?????????

Graham is getting battered here ... he is down to 200k and Aksnes has over 1.5 million.

we have an all in and a call .....

We have a raise all in from Graham in the sb and an instant call by Kristian!

on their backs and Kristian has  Ahrt 9h

Graham with the dominated  Ad 6c

Qs 4d Th Qc 2s bringing not even the slightest glimmer of hope for Graham, meaning he is OUT in 2nd for £10,708

So Kristian Aksnes is this months winner of the DTD £300 Freezeout winning £18,915

I must congratulate Kristian on a fantastic 2 days of aggressive poker. I sat with him for most of the tournament and his constant small raises and continuation bets were impossible to defend against without jeopardising your whole stack.

I must agree with Matt that these 2 days have really brought on my game. I didn't realise I was 2nd in chips starting day 2 as I heard there were superstacks elsewhere. Ultimately I could only nurse my stack into the money after being card dead for 4 hours.

I was also a victim of a fantastic bubble move by the monster stack of Dag Martin Mikelson. I had called the button raise on the BB with  4c 4s. The guy had been pounding the table and my BB. On a  5h 7d 8h I re-raised his continuation bet for half my stack. After a minute he put me all in!!

TBH even if I had an over pair I couldn't call. Matt and I had discussed this scenario at the break and I hadn't followed my own advice of just staying clear of these situations.

Will definitely be visiting DTD again in the future. Great structure for the buy in and it's so much better introducing Antes in early rather than increasing the blinds or reducing the clock as some casinos do.

As for the wife she was ok as she was stuck in the bank holiday traffic and so didn't miss me too much. With the hotel stay a small profit was shown from the cash and tourney and as Tikay says they all add up.

Very well played sir.
Was on at least 3 tables with you through the 2 days, and you were very difficult to play against.

Thought you would go very deep, but the bubble hand was a big setback.
TBH, I think the other guy had a big hand - given how much you had put in the pot, and the strength of your bet (into the chippie), and the fact he couldn't be sure you would fold very often.

I realise DTD gets a lot of praise on this forum, and that can get up some people's noses.
But the Norwegian week, IMO, has been an absolute sensation, and a lot of credit to DTD for the way they set it up and ran it.
The Norwegian players have also been a pleasure to play with (hence me staying til nearly 5 this morning when I had to be in work for 8am!).

And the contrast between the Norwegians and (some) British players is this.
Two weeks ago, I played a cash table with, at separate times, two drunk locals on the table.
Both were abusive, disruptive, and generally unpleasant, and ended up being 'evicted' after ignoring warnings.

Last night there were 2 very drunk Norwegians at the same table as me - and they were great fun, and not a moments trouble - as long as you dont get offended by being called all-in for 120BB with 82s, and losing!!

A pleasure to play with you too Neil. I wish I had called your all in bet with my suited Ace when on the SB against your pocket 3's. With the BB short stacked and liable to call I should've knocked the two of you out and added to my big stack.

Totally agree with your comments on the Happy Norwegians. It was them that donated me the money on a cash table that bought me into the comp. Unlucky for just missing out on the final table. You nursed your stack very well with your well timed moves
