Title: Bluesq.com GUKPT Newcastle: Day 1B - At A Glance Post by: NoflopsHomer on May 16, 2008, 02:01:21 AM Here are the chip counts of the remaining twenty players from Day 1A:
Peter Linton 93300 Mark Dalimre 77025 Sam Trickett 58375 Joey Lovelady 51125 Hamid Rowshanaei 42825 Ganesh Rao 37400 Michael Ellis 33475 Barry Smith 28325 Mickey Wernick 27050 Lynne Beaumont 27000 Richard Stanley 26800 Keith Hawkins 25950 David Smith 24700 Kerry Taylor 20850 Alan Vinnicombe 17800 Gareth Teatum 14900 Ian Farrell 13100 Matthew Buckland 12850 Gary Wilson 10350 Jason De Freitas 8825 So Pete is the big chip leader, the problem looked from where I was standing that people were too willing to try and play back at him (and also Sam Trickett and Joey Lovelady) from the blinds by just flat-calling and then playing OOP which is the worst thing you can do. More aggressive positional play and trapping with big hands is perhaps what's needed. Anyway, we should be in line for a bigger turnout today. Play starts at 2pm. Let us know who you're supporting! Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Newcastle: Day 1B - At A Glance Post by: NoflopsHomer on May 16, 2008, 02:43:03 PM We've lost two already.
First, A Caygill got it all-in with Jh 7c on a 5d 7h 6d Js board against Priyan De Mel's 9c 8s, the ultimate blank the 2c on the river. Then on the table next to it, G Purewell (although maybe it's actually Garinder Purewal, I'm not sure) raised preflop with Aces, got 3 callers and then bet 400 on the 9-5-4 flop, the first player raised to 1,100 and Cheryl Routledge flat-called, any him with the Aces made it 4,500, the flop raiser passed and Chery set him in with a set of Fives which held up. Thanks to Sunny Chattha for that one. Last month's winner in Manchester, Marc Goodwin. Yikes.
I managed of course not to see any of those exits, but I saw a lot of people not in the slightest bit afraid to throw their chips around at this early stage. For example, on Table Taylor, I saw the eponymous Rob bet 500 on a Tc Jh 3s 8c board, only for Paul Donaghey to make it 1500. Marc Goodwin comes along for the ride too, and Rob Taylor calls. The river is the 6d and I believe it is checked down. Paul Donaghey - Jc Qc Rob Taylor - 7h 9h for a nice pot, and probably not happy that everyone checked it after him on the river Marc Goodwin - mucks Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Newcastle: Day 1B - At A Glance Post by: danafish on May 16, 2008, 03:09:42 PM Also not wasting time in getting involved is James Akenhead, betting out 550 on a 3c 3s 6s flop, flat-called by one Steve Craig.
They bothe check the Ac turn, and then James tries another 550 on the 8s river. Steve makes it 1300, and James dwells long and hard before making the call. Sadly for him though it's the wrong call - Mr Craig turns over 4s 3h and James just mucks. Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Newcastle: Day 1B - At A Glance Post by: danafish on May 16, 2008, 03:16:41 PM Mr Leo Kam, incidentally my Hoodie Of The Day in the same awesome number he wore to the Irish Open, is not taking any crap from anyone. He bets out on a 2s 9d Tc flop, only for one M Mccaritiy to raise him a hefty 3k. To which Leo calmly announces all in before going back to his cup of tea. Mr Mccaritiy now dwells up long enough for me to have a conversation with Rumit at the other end of the table. It goes like this:
"Hello Dana." "Hello Rumit." (Noticing miniature Rubik's Cube) "Is that a new cube?" "What, this? No, I've had it for ages." "But I thought you lost it." "Oh. Yes. I did. This is a new cube." "So it is an new cube." Maz Nawab - "Give it here a second." Rumit - "No." Me - "You don't mess with another man's cube, man." Mr Mccaritiy passes and Leo Kam takes the chunky pot. So we'll never know...
Simon Zach dwells up against a 2.5k bet on a Ts 4s 5d 3h 2s board, I think from Dave Clark Jr, but decides against it. Some girl-on-girl action now with Chery Routledge betting 500 on the river of a Ahrt 3h Qs Qc 9c board, Michaela Johnson calling and they both show Jacks. ;kc; Incidentally, it was Garinder Purewal who went out earlier as I've spotted him on the rail. Maz Nawab is OUT, didn't see the exit but most of the damage was done earlier when Maz was all-in on a Js 8c Qd Ks 6h with 8h 8s only to be called by Zak Aslam's Qs Qh. You can see his reaction here (and also dealer Appu using 'the force' to move the chips): (http://blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=17649&g2_serialNumber=1) Karl Mahrenholz (looks like he lost his lips in a prop bet again) and birthday boy Tim Blake (http://blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=17647&g2_serialNumber=1) Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Newcastle: Day 1B - At A Glance Post by: NoflopsHomer on May 16, 2008, 03:33:57 PM Henning Granstad and Praz Bansi have been sparring a little, Henning doing better with around 13k to Praz' 7k but they just got into a notable pot when Henning raised from the hijack with Js 9s to 175 and Praz made it 600 from the button. Henning called.
3s 4s 9h Henning checks, Praz bets 1,100. Henning now raises to 5,000. Cue a long think from Praz, and then a statement, "I don't want to play with just 4,000..." He goes for it with Queens. Henning misses all his outs when it comes an offsuit King and Four. As a result Henning is down to 6k and Prazi bounces up to 14k. Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Newcastle: Day 1B - At A Glance Post by: danafish on May 16, 2008, 03:53:10 PM Surprising Exits Of The Hour
Mr Dan Owston is gone, running his pocket Queens into Ken Wong's pocket Sevens, flop obviously coming down K-4-7. Most surprising thing about his exit being that he had only 675 chips remaining when he found the Queens. Not sure how that happened, but either way he's OUT. Also gone is Level 2 Rumit, most unfortunately. Leo Kam raised his big blind, and finding 6c 8c Rumit decided it was worth defending. The flop came 8-T-4 with two clubs, so Rumit check-raised. Leo called. When the third club came in on the turn, Rumit went all in. Leo took a long time making his decision, but eventually called with pocket Queens, one of them the Qc. Another club on the river. Ouch. Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Newcastle: Day 1B - At A Glance Post by: danafish on May 16, 2008, 04:00:21 PM Astonishing Hand Of The Hour
Mr Sunny Chattha. As I arrived at the table, there is around 7k in the pot, and the board read Js Qd Td 5s. Both Sunny and Paul Hambleton checks. River - 5d - Sunny bets out, and Paul calls. Paul's flush has come in. Sunny turns over, um, Jh 5h for the full house. He's on around 15k now. Ian keeps insisting that he has a pair of Deuces and Roberto should call if he's beating that. Eventually Roberto calls, and is most disappointed that Ian is holding Aspades 6s. Roberto is holding 8c 8s, for a hand that would indeed have beaten a pair of Sevens. River - an inconsequential 5c. Double-up for the needy Tweedy.

As I arrive, Mateyboy on the cutoff has 600 in front of him, Rob Sherwood on the big blind has 2300 in front of him, and Priyan De Mel in mid position has all his chips in front of him - around 8k. Matey folds pretty quickly, but Rob Sherwood thinks about it for a while and calls. Priyan De Mel - Ac Ahrt Rob Sherwood - er, Aspades Jc. Hmm. Board - an exciting-but-no-proverbial-cigar Jh 2s 8s Qd 6d Double-up for Mr De Mel. "It's very tough, I love my table but I could really do with some hands."
Soon after, he's raising to 750 from early position only to pass a Shaf re-raise to 2,250. Shaf's table banter chirps up once more, though it's all good-natured on this table. On the next table Maldini32 raises from the cut-off on Dewi's big blind. Dewi, "You've got a hand." Maldini, "Well I can't really tell you that..." Dewi thinks for a moment, "Guiness Power!!!" says Maldini, Dewi thinks for a bit more before moving for about 5k. Maldini insta-folds. "Does he have a hand? In a word," says the small blind, "No!" (http://blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=17715&g2_serialNumber=1) John never stops being bemused by some of the play that he's seen today. He's got about 17k mainly through a guy going all-in against him with A-J against his A-K. He's wary of James though. Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Newcastle: Day 1B - At A Glance Post by: danafish on May 16, 2008, 08:31:01 PM With a fairly hefty pot already, Michael Hill bets 5k on a 9s Qs 5d 2h board. Priyan De Mel takes a while before calling.
River - Js and Michael checks. Priyan bets 6k. Some dwelling, some clock-calling and Mr Hill calls. And indeed Priyan is the king of the Hill - he turns over Aspades Ks for the absolute nuts, and Michael mucks. Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Newcastle: Day 1B - At A Glance Post by: danafish on May 16, 2008, 08:44:16 PM Disaster for entertaining Scandie and also Mr Gordon Macarthur; then afterwards for Alexandra Jackson
There is a flop; it is 8d 4d 7h and Mr Henning Granstad bets 2.5k. Gordon Macarthur promptly goes all in for around 5.5k. Dara O'Kearny promptly goes all in for 13k. Henning has around 13k. "Wow," he says. --------Dwelling--------- "Wow," says Henning. --------Dwelling--------- "I'm getting way too good a price," says Henning, and calls. Henning - Ad Qd Gordon - 8s 8h Dara - 5c 6c Turn - Qc River - Ts Dara O'Kearny scoops the lot, Mr Gordon Macarthur is OUT and Henning has 125 chips left. He's all in next hand on the big blind. He is looking at his hole cards and making the universal expression of "not bad". Meanwhile John Stamatelopoulos is raising and Alexandra Jackson is calling, and then finding herself all in on the 6-2-K flop. Alexandra - A-K John - T-K Henning - J-6 and definitely still in with a chance Turn - Ten - ouch River - Ten - OUCH So Mr Henning Granstad is officially OUT, and Ms Alexandra Jackson is down to 175, presumed now OUT. Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Newcastle: Day 1B - At A Glance Post by: NoflopsHomer on May 16, 2008, 09:12:17 PM OMG Priyan, what a lucky feeeeshhh James Akenhead on fire, had a sick month pokerwise, and playing very well. He missed the 10am train this morning from Kings Cross (by around 5 secs literally doors in face) and went on tilt saying he's not coming now and how the train conductor that wouldnt open the doors was a **** **** **** etc but after some presuading from me and Praz he got the later train for an extra £15 (used to be a train driver, hes got moves son) googgogogogogogogogogo (please dont say hes out, after this long bok post) Good news for you sir! James Akenhead, J McBride and Ian Fraser get it all-in on a Js 9c 6s flop. (Ian Fraser had just almost trebled up calling all-in preflop with Qh Jh against Kevin O'Leary's Sixes and Ken Wong's Sevens. A six hit but so did the flush) Anyway: James: Jc Jd for the current nuts. J McBride: Aspades 5s for the nut flush draw. Ian Fraser: Ks Ts, "Err, guess I need a Queen then." 6c No sweat for James, and I don't even catch the river since it's needless anyway. James then points out who his favouritest dealer in the whole world is. Stephen Bayliff raises, Paul Johnstone moves all-in and Skalie re-raises to isolate. Bayliff folds. Skalie: Jc Js Johnstone: Qd Qc Board: Ad Kc Ks Kh Kd ;kc; Incidentally Henning Granstad was telling me about a funny hand he played against Skalie last night in the 5/5 game. Henning raises preflop with 75s, and gets lots of callers. The board comes K-6-4 and everyone checks. Henning bets £150 on the T turn (which brings a second flush draw) and Skalie raises another 200. Henning thinks he can only be doing this on a draw and decides to call knowing that if the flush doesn't come, he'll win the pot. The river is an Ace, Henning moves in and Skalie folds his 8-7 face up. Now just imagine the glee as the Norwegian shows his 7-5...
