Title: anybody want a piece of me?
Post by: Claw75 on July 03, 2008, 12:09:27 PM
I really want to have a bash at the £300 at DTD this weekend, and with the amount I've already invested trying to qualify and just missing out each time it seems rude not to!  £330 a bit steep for me at the minute though, so, inspired by M3's similar idea last year I thought I'd get myself a bit of insurance and see if anyone's interested in taking a punt and buying a bit of interest.  Will be selling 5% shares, probably up to a maximum of 50%.  If anyone wants in, drop me an offer via PM, and if there's enough interest will take it forward from there.

*sits back and waits for incoming stick* :D

By not clarifying what £ = what % one would assume that different people are getting differate rates on their percentages which seems a little unfair.

Did i get the wrong end of the stick?

people can offer what they think the percentage is worth, in their view.  as long as they are happy with the deal they are getting then it's fair as far as I'm concerned.

30% left with an interest in a further 10%, so get in quick if you want in!

You get a better % depending on how good your bartering (sp?) is. Seems fair to me ;D

i'm not going to undersell the %ages obviously, but I'm not looking to make a massive buck on them either.

I personally wouldn't sell what is essentially the same thing to people I knew for different amounts.

But fair enough, each to their own.

you are probably right, but I didn't really want to advertise ££/% on this thread.  As it happens, all % sold so far have been at same rate and I will sell the rest for the same rate too, via PM.

mine too.  I would never play poker on 'borrowed' money, which is pretty much why I've posted this thread because I want to play, but don't want to spend more than i can comfortably afford or borrow the cash from where/whoever.   I've not approached anyone directly, just explained the situation here and invited anyone who wants to take a punt with the chance of turning a few quid in to something a bit more to contact me.

If that's nipping, then guilty as charged I guess, but it's not my understanding of the term.

Define nipping?

nipping is borrowing money from a person or group of people

promising them you will pay it back at £1 for £1

what claire has asked for is a stake you buy 10% of her for £35

if she loses you get nothing if she wins you get 10% of what she wins

Good luck this weekend Claw.....go get em!

I think we should have a staking/ swap % board........for live and online.

Gives you some additional interest in comps, and the chance to make a bit or lay off some of your outgoings.

you're 100% right Fran, but I think there's a big difference between someone who knows a lot of people here making a post like this and someone relatively unknown to the rest of the forum doing it.  I wouldn't dream, for example, of making a post like this on the hendon mob forum, where hardly anyone knows who I am therefore wouldn't have been able to make a reasoned judgement on whether they thought it would be worth investing (or, indeed, whether I'd just do a runner with their money).

I was still prepared for a bit of stick as I've seen how these things have gone in the past, but I've been pleasantly surprised - that there has not been a load of stick must be a good reflection on the forum, surely.

Good luck to you too - see you tomorrow! x

Good luck Claire and all the other Blondes in. Did you get the full 50% sold? Are you nervous about potentially losing other peoples cash? I was once offered a full buy in and travel costs to a WSOP event but there is no way I could have taken it for fear of losing the persons cash (although he could afford it easily). For me it would have messed up my game (i think) but if a company was to offer the money to me it would be different as not directly out of an individual's pocket. Have you thought about this and how it might affect your game or are you confident in any case?   Good luck and take it doon!!

Title: Re: anybody want a piece of me?

Hi Mad,

yes I got the full 50% sold.  I've been staked in tournaments before and no, it doesn't make me nervous.  If I sat there fretting about losing other people's money I wouldn't be playing to the best of my potential.  I'll be doing what I always do whether I've paid the full buy in myself, sold some interest, or been bought in by someone else - playing to win :)

Was the person who offered to buy you in to the WSOP event a poker player too?  I'd be less inclined to accept an offer from someone who wasn't involved in poker - trying to explain to them that the reason you busted first hand was down to sheer bad luck rather than you being shite would be difficult I think, whereas anyone who knows the game knows that it happens.

In that case Claire good luck to you and come out winning :) I'm sure with your record of live play you will do great :)

Yes the offer I got was from a poker pro but the money was still from his own pocket so I declined as I really could afford to play the event myself (with savings) but would not have paid the money out of my own pocket, so why take his? I really don't know whether or not it would have affected my game but I think it had potential to......  this may be a bit different if it was a business deal but I don't know? I played a live event recently with £220 buy in, thinking I might be scared money.....lol. I settled down very quickly and thought my play was excellent so maybe the anticipatory anxiety about effect on play is exactly that and it may not have affected my play at all? I do remeber being pretty nervous when I played DTD and the buy-in wasnt big. I think it was the thought of going all the way to DTD and going out early that really stiffled my play. It wasn't pretty...lol

It would be interesting to hear what kinds of things affect peoples play from a psychological point of view..

selling shares? seriously want to buy some trig.

Best of luck Claw, hope you go deep. Staking is not nipping in my opinion, just a way for players with a lower bankroll to take a shot at higher buyin comps where they have a decent edge on the field (at least a 10% edge imo to satisfy both parties) (thanks Flushy). I also think that we should get a staking board going, might lead to headaches so ppl should just be careful about who they give and details. Could see a whole lot of new blondepoker signups anyhow.

10% for £4.40?

Alex cheers for reminding me you still owe me £100 you nipping bastard!

Have to dissagree there, I remember feeling sickened for Mel when she did it, the thread was locked if I recall rightly.

Might have something to do with the differing skills of the 2 players....

I think the lack of stick was due to not advertising the rate. Quite difficult to rip apart the value of shares if you don't know what they are.

I don't agree Sandy, Most people that know Clare would say she is a decent player, and she is will liked. The FACT that she sold out her share quota in a quick time speaks volumes IMHO.

Perhaps no one wanted to have a dig at a well respected member of the forum.

OK then - buy in is £300+£30 - shares have been sold at £3.50/1%

An explanation, not a dig. Snoopy let the details out when you were pretty much sold out anyway.

Mel was popular here and is a decent player judging by the forum from a while back. You could of course be right but in reality it's all speculation and maybe it is a combination of many things.

I don't get why people rip others apart when they offer stakes anyway. Not tempted move on. You want to back then you do. Such is life.

eh?  Snoopy said I was selling 50% and had 10% left.  I think it was Ironside who mentioned £35 for 10%, but I presume that was just an educated assumption on his part given the rest of my posts (either that or he's been reading my PMs!! :o )

did I just use 'ironside' and 'educated' in the same sentence?

Misread.

I always thought it was Snoops that couldn't play AK. Ah well never mind.  ;)

the Mel thread got out of hand when it was posted on the Betfair forum and a load of their "aggressive" posters slagged her off on there and came on here for some more. To be fair it wasn't regular blonde's having a pop

To be honest, stakes are 100% subjective, if people offer %'s then basically they are selling their action, and should be prepared for stick/offers. By putting yourself on the line offering shares it is up to a person whether they think you are good value {they will buy shares} or if you are not value {they will give you stick}

If it is the latter, and you get some stick, nobody in the right mind can winge because you have basically put yourself on a public forum to be judged, and judged you will be. Popularity or poker prowess, depending on how people rate worthy investment oppurtunities, will be how you are judged.

Just a quick thanks to all of those that bought a percentage, and sorry I couldn't bring home the bacon!  It was a great tournament, as always.  I was unfortunate early doors to run into someone who couldn't lay down top pair on a very scary board (he had what I thought he had), and I was down to half my stack within 30 mins of kick off.  No worries with the structure of this tournament, and after dwindling to 3.8k at the first break and grindng for a few levels I was back up to starting stack, then up to average chips several hours later.  I eventually exited the tournament somewhere around the mid-fifites after pushing with my short stack and being looked up by one caller who spiked a set on the turn with his smaller pair and it was night night.

Had a great time though - I always love playing poker at DTD.  The atmosphere was fantastic as usual (apart from the brief period where some of the lads got a bit lairy), and I think I had a good stab at it.  Was also great to see Matt get a cash, and a nice return from the £44 he spent on Friday night's online satellite :)

thanks again chaps!

I'm not sure why anyone should get stick just for putting themselves up. As you say, you can take it or leave it....whether its Ivey, or someone who has never played live before in the biggest tournament of the year (er....... Mr.Moneymaker!).
The one thing they can be questioned on/advised...... is the price per share.

lol.  We usually do swap a percentage, but seeing as I'd sold a lot of interest it didn't seem worth it this time.  Hindsight and all that!!!! (I did tap him for the Sunday night £100 though when he was big chip leader with 10 or so left :D)
