Title: Amsterdam Master Classics Day One Live Update
Post by: tikay on November 09, 2005, 02:05:01 PM
Hello - Jen here, in one of our classic impromptu press corners, at the back of the restaurant area.  Announcements are coming thick and fast about the nearly sold-out event which will be starting shortly.  The MC is saying "who dares to play a one-hand satellite?  Come on!  Only a few seats left!" and there is a busy atmosphere with lots of recognisable faces... All efforts to get Tikay to play a single table satellite have failed, and we'll be bringing news live as soon as the players get going.

The open-plan Holland Casino Amsterdam is a pleasant environment, and our last minute press allowance (thanks to Caroline Westerling) means that we have pretty free rein to wander and get our counts and stories.  Pics must be supervised, however, so please bear with us until we can collar a supervisor.

you've aged Jen

looking forward to the update....

is it raining, as usual in Amsterdam in November?

any time to wander?

Apparently unusually, the players are only just now starting the draw, but the dealers are sat in their seats ready to go.  It's one of those tables-in-surprising nooks kind of places, with some right behind our computer area, some in The Pit and some around the main room.  The announcer is busy trying to sell the remaining six seats with the proclamation that the prize pool is now "over one and a half million dollars."

Hi Tight End, as soon as the blonde enclave loses the players currently using my laptop, I will look like my old self again...#

No it was straight from the airport again, with five minutes to check into the marvellous Owl Hotel and then set up over here.  I do appear to have accidentally booked myself an extra day, however, so some wandering may yet be accomplished.

That's better!  Yes we have just been sat with Dave Colclough and Tony G, and the expected Noah Boeken, Mel Judah, Julian Thew, Juha Helppi, Woody Deck, Joe Beevers, John Gale, John Shipley, Rob Hollink, John Duthie, Alan McLean are all here too.  Luke Smith, Jon Kalmer, Roy Brindley.  Ok that's enough for me to be finding seats for at the minute...

Hi Jen,

Say hello to Thomas "Buzzer" Bihl for me if you see him please - 7th there last year and I've got a %  8)

Have fun in the 'Dam on your day off - I can recommend the Pedal-boats on the canals just be careful you don't wander onto the main commercial canal like we did or you might get sunk by a large tug :D Oh, and some of the bridges have next to zero clearance! A must for any trip to the 'Dam

Play has commenced, unfortunately just as we have been moved to a new, powerless corner.  So we'll either find a new place or there might be a quiet moment in about an hour and a half as our batteries collectively fail.

Thanks for your efforts.

I wondered if you could find out if Red-Fox (malcolm mckinlay) is playing today.

Cheers

Cheers 77Dave (who incidentally I see just put up your 77th post).  I will have a look for your guys as soon as we're settled.  I think it may be too much to hope for a list of entrants, but I'll do my best to find out if they're here.  Just a little moment's patience as we move again.

RedFox is aberdeens only representative. Iris had hoped to make it back from the Tournament Of Champions in vegas but her flight had been hit by lightning on the way home so she will be playing the fiver rebuy in the international tonight instead.

Malcolm McKinlay and Jeff Buffenburger are both here, along with:

Keith The Camel Hawkins (complete with amazingly lovely pics of little Jake in QPR jumper)
Simon Trumper
John Kabbaj
Jon Shoreman
Isabelle Mercier
Kiril Gerasimov
Marcel Luske
Jani Sointula (early chip leader after an AA vs KK situation which eliminated Michel Abecassis)

John Gale OUT

More to follow (there are actually four separate areas including part of the Salon Prive in which Roy Brindley and Patrik Antonius were hiding)

We have just "walked" the whole arena, & Jen is now busy inputting a list of big names.

I gather John Gale is OUT.

Angelo Besnanou
Jim Reid
Ross Boatman
The American Jeffrey Bensinger
Abel Meijberg
Carlo Citrone

Gwibbo - Nottingham Nick Gibson is here and sends a message to Anna - his mobile is out of juice (apparently) but he's here and well and says hi.

Stuart Fox is also here, minus facial hair which made it briefly hard to recognise his cheeky smile... we're heading for the end of level one - might be time for a little chip counting.

Just saw The Camel lose with 57 vs 34 (which hit a pair of threes).  I've been told it does lose sometimes...

So they started with 10k in chips, and hour levels.  So Dave up there with the early leaders.  I think that must mean it's time to look for the other ones.  And Malcolm McKinlay.

Title: Re: Amsterdam Master Classics Day One Live Update
Post by: ifm on November 09, 2005, 03:31:05 PM
Dave prefers to slow play aces so they will get beaten a good few times!!

Title: Re: Amsterdam Master Classics Day One Live Update
Post by: tikay on November 09, 2005, 03:33:07 PM

Hi Tighty, yes, I played Sunday, 270 runners, but I busted out in the 90's when my 88 was turned over by A-7. I did not have enough chips to get him off his hand, he was kind of pot committed, so I don't treat it as a bad beat, I needed a bigger stack, & if I'd had one, he'd have not called my RR.

I could not play Monday's Omaha, it was a 2 day event, & I had to go back to Lonsdn on Tuesday & record 425. So I played cash Monday night, & won just over €2,200. (a lot for me!). When I got back from London last night, I played cash again, but dropped €700.

Jen has gone off to get some chip counts now.

Hi ifm, yes, Dave likes to get cute with AA, but in Limit, which he played yesterday, it's hard to get rid of opponents, as you know.

Simon Trumper did great yesterday, finishing 2nd in the Omaha, after winning the same comp last year. Some performance.

Rob Holink did even better, playing two comps at the same time. He finalled in the Omaha, & won the Limit!

There is a tremendous quality field here today, maybe the best field we have seen in Europe this year since Copenhagen.

The entire Hendon Mob, Devilfish, El Blondie, Tony G, Bruno, Hollink, Carlo, Aces Trumper, Camel, Marcel, Thewy, Gwibbo, Skalie, Isabelle, Sverre Sunbro, Frogi Fagilierefrofogi (he's Norweigan, a "Norseman), Pascal Perrault, Ivo Donev, Jani Sointula, & loads loads more.

No sign of Willie Tann though, or Milky Bar Kid.

Roy The Boy Brindley, who is the feature interview on this weeks Poker 425, is here too.

I also spotted Jon Shoreman, who finalled in the Limit yesterday. Also Tim & Pippa Flanders on adjacent tables.

And Ian McDonald from Notts. I'm not sure if Tristram, his son is here, he generally runs well in Amsterdam.

If he is watching, a big hi from loads & loads of us to Bob Coombes, we look forward to seeing you out & about soon Bob.

We are staying at The Owl Hotel, a sort of homely cross between a B & B and an Hotel. Cooked breakfast consists of Boiled Eggs, Eggs (Boiled), & Boiled eggs. We are all egg-bound now.

I recommend Amsterdam to anyone. The Airport is huge, & beautifully designed, puts the UK Airports to shame. The City Centre has a nice mixture of old & new, & I went past Eva Braun's house yesterday. I think she was something to do with the Second World War. The new buildings are astonisinghly well designed, & architectural mastepieces. Lots of bikes here, millions of them. All the taxis are Mercedes.

Oh, & the Hotel has a one-eyed cat. We call it Kiv.

ifm, it's a damned sight nicer than Moscow Airport. I'm in a "be nice to Airports" mode at the moment, it may just help me avoid the odd problem here & there......

OK, Jen is walking the floor, & she's on her way back, so I'm off to get some chip counts.

We are on our third office of the afternoon, after being evicted from the first two, but big thanks to to Caroline Westerling, Communications & Marketing Director of Casino Holland, for allowing us access.

Poker 425 were due to be here, but permission was withdrawn when Casino Holland realised that Poker 425 were associated withn an online Card-Room. Bizarrely, Online Card-Rooms are illegal in Holland, but "live" Casinos are OK providing they are owned by the Government. as Casino Holland is. Uniquely.

Quote from The Camel. "Never try & bluff a mug". Quote from Luke Smith. "I knew he was at it". Luke has 15,500, many of them, apparently, loaned from The Camel.

But I have to be nice to The Camel. He nipped me for €20 last night, but has just given me €10 back. "Minus the cost of my drink".

I have to tell you this about the Camel. He has bought 4 pics of his one month or so old Son, Jake with him, & he's shown EVERYONE the pics. Several times. He's gone all cooey wooey.

Hoody-wearing Simon Hennessey got off to a less-than-perfect start with the following hand (which he'd written in great detail on a little pad- how handy for me):

Holding  Ac Kh he called a raise of 325 from an early-position raiser.  The flop was  3h 5c Ts, the guy bet 200, call.  The turn came  Kd, this time the guy bet 200 and called Simon's 800 raise.  The river brought the  4d, and Simon called 2,000 to find his opponent holding  Ah 2h for the gutshotted straight.  Seems somehow apt, considering his apparel...

But then I saw him win a couple of thousand with Aces, so he looked a little happier.

As the players went to break, I got chatting to floorman Laurens Dekker, who is a blondeite-to-be, he assures me, after asking what was meant by "gutshot" and "double belly-buster" and receiving satisfactory descriptions from me and David Lloyd.  Despite all the restrictions the staff are friendly and we don't seem to be having too much trouble sneaking up to the tables and asking our followees for their counts.

Ta very much Jo - although I wouldn't worry about the disruption to service - I am likely to be back in no time.  Thanks to Tony for his assistance with speedy connection, without which all this multitasking would be nigh on impossible.

I think Tikay's gone to get counts now, and I am sure he'll be able to find Malcolm eventually, if he's still in.  Which is more than likely.  It feels like the blind levels are three hours, but that might just be the fact that they're an hour and a half and I am a little sleep-deprived...

Fingers crossed, but it looks like this corner of the bar is sufficiently out-of-the-way to have got us a settled update post, from which I can see only a wall and the side of the bar, but a few steps in the right direction lead to the Pit, where most of the action is.  Tikay's back with some more up to the minute information...

Simon Trumper just found Tikay with a story - he's down nearly 3k after flat calling a pre-flop raise from Jani Sointula with  Ad Js.  The flop brought a Jack, and there were three successive bets which eventually saw Jani's hand as  Ac Ad, and Simon got away from it without doing any terrible damage to his stack.

When the blinds go up they announce it with a little jingle played over the tannoy system.  Very weird as the casino is otherwise musicless.  Anyway, the blinds are up.

Dedvilfish just had play stopped on his table whilst he was photographed being cuddled by 4 young "Babes". There's a novelty.

Tighty - Harry D says he has another Post to put up about a tough hand, he says we are NOT gonna like it. It really is GREAT to have Harry on board, though trying to teach Iron to play may be a bit much for even him.

Dave Finney has 14k. He's from Sutton Coldfield. I am SURE he used to be in Slade.

I befriended an American guy in the €800 on Sunday. He's David Gurevsky, & he has 8,200. We had quite a tussle on Sunday, & I really enjoyed his company.

Johan Storakers has 15,500, Tony G 8,800.

Stuart Fox has 8k.

Ram Vaswani 7k, Alan McLean 8k,Carlo 8k

I am just doing my live phone in to the 425 Sporrts Betting programme. Weird.

In case I didn't mention how Nick Gibson's chips were suddenly looking so healthy -- they came from a steamer who lost his stack in two rapid-succession big pots.  After paying off a nut flush, the player found KK and Nick with AJ.  After the Ace came on the flop, Nick would not be moved off and collected around a 10k pot from his opponent.  He looks calm and is happily chatting away when the blonde workers file past with our notepads.

Cheer's Tikay, i'll be lurking as usual. Best of luck to everone.

Could you tell Keith that i will try and get up to see Jake in the next couple of weeks, also ask Simon to call me as soon as he is back in the UK.

I just did my Live Phone-In to the Channel 425 Sports Betting Show, I think it has the rather natty title "4/5" - 425, gerrit? Guests were Ronnie Oranni, the cricketer chappie, who's name I have mis-spelt, & John Hendrie, the Scottish footballer geezer. It was a bit difficult, to put it mildly, as it is SO noisy here, & I could not hear a word from their end. So I just blathered on for 4 or 5 minutes. as usual.

Talking of footballers, we have a certain Jan Molby playing here today. Think he used to play for Liverpool or someone, maybe even Wrexham. He's quite intelligent, as footballers go.

Poor Jen has not slept for 2 days, & she's just had a bowl of chips and fallen asleep over her keyboard. She worries me to death, there is not much of her, 6 stone wringing wet I'd say, and I do wish she'd take better care of herself. But you can't tell girlies anything, eh?

Hi At-It,

Blackpool? Yes, I hope so. Dave is hoping to play Tuesday to Friday, & me Wednesday to Friday, but we don't know if we will get seats, as it usually sells out early, & we are not back in the UK until Sunday. We cannot play the Main Event, as we are both going to Monte Carlo, Dave to play, & me to Live Update. Should be plenty of easy money in Blackpool, Ironside will be there from Thursday onwards.

Hi sixpac, message pased on to Mathilde & Simon, they both send hugs & kisses.

Simon finished yesterday in the 240 runner Omaha, an event he won last year when there were 230 runners. And he made 5th in the big Omaha comp at this years WSOP. If he practices, he could become half handy at Omaha. I keep telling him he has to use TWO cards from his hand, but he plays it like Hold'Em.......

Dave 'El' Blondie news - I miscounted his stack by one pale pink chip (5,000) as I drifted by just now.  That means he has over 27,000 and we will hopefully find out how he's been accumulating in the dinner break which is due in five minutes.

They just cleared the Pit of all non-players in preparation for the break, but here are some counts grabbed on the way out:

Pascal Perrault   9,100
Carlo Citrone     7,800
Ross Boatman  12,600
Devilfish           4,550
Noah Boeken   29,000
Angelo Besnanou 11,500
Jeff Buffenburger 10,000
Simon Trumper  13,200 (from 6,000 just a minute ago, he said)
Jani Sointula       24,800

I think the announcement was just made that there are 205 players remaining.  That looks about right; another two tables have broken in the last half hour.  Marcel Luske has been moved to Simon Trumper's table and says he's in "the danger zone."  I don't know if he was referring to Simon or himself (he has 15,000).

Jeff Buffenburger 10k (I think that list was one of those awkward end-of-page posts).

Correction - They appear to be playing, still, which rather suggests that it is not a dinner break as yet.  I must have misunderstood the Dutch announcement.

We've already had chips and mayo with a side of apple pie so I think we'll probably be skipping it, when it happens.  But maybe not...

Simon Hennessey OUT -

He found  Ah Ac on the big blind and flat called a raise to 450.  The flop came  Jh 6s 8h, at which point he thought it best to check-raise all-in.  Which was called by the unlikely  7s 9d only to find a  5c on the turn to take him out.  Just no luck today, that boy.

Our current Chip Leader seems to be Anthony Lellouche. Anthony is on about 45k. This is a LOVELY guy, French unfortunately, but he has great game, and he has his name on a big win sometime soon. He raises the table to death, raise, raise, raise, just little half raises, but he just strangles everyone. He is sat between Carlo & Harry D, with Pascal Perrault on the same table.

Tony G is in deep trouble, he's down to less than 2k after losing a monster pot.

Devilfish has around 4k.

Yoyo Thew has 10k, he's been down to the felt, up to the ceiling, & he's mid yo right now. Don't know if he's on an up Yo or down Yo though.

Hi Tikay and Jen

Great updates, just wish I'd remembered about this sooner as I was bored earlier on this afternoon at work.

I'd like to know who is gonna be in Blackpool and when.  Jo and I were aiming to be there on Saturday for the biggie, but if lots of peeps are going to be there on Weds or Thurs, I may nip through for an hour or two.

Are you going to Blackpool Jen?  Will you be updating?

Good luck to all Blondes in The Dam at the mo.

P.S.  Good luck tonight Jen - I'll be there cheering you on!

It's actually the dinner break now...

Hi Trace - may well be in Blackpool for a while, but sadly the end of it clashes with the Monte Carlo Millions, which are in need of updating, so we will miss the main event.  Next time.  Oh, and I'm quite excited about Monte Carlo  :D

Ali - Martin Green has 11k.

We will have to pass on the other requests for Chip Counts for a while, as it IS Dinner Break now.

Tony G has made a remarkable comeback, he's up to 5k now, & "on the tear".

Luke Smith - "The Doc12345" is now sat to Anthony Lellouche's left, & has just taken down a big pot from Anthony. This could be a great battle - Luke has position, & won't be bullied by anyone. (Except Claire).

But Anthony has busted out Carlo Citrone.

YoYo news now - he's back up to 20,000 after winning a big pot off The Camel, whose raise he called with  Qd Th, hitting one ten on the (10 7 7) flop and another on the turn, getting paid by Keith who mucked on the end.

His table has been joined by Patrik Antonius, and as far as Keith is concerned he's still in the running with around 12k but has done a few chips in the last level (according to Julian his mucked hand as described above contained a 7).

Marcel Luske, 20k.

Simon Aces Trumper, sat to Marcel's left, was down to 2k again, but he's back in the green zone again with 10k, after a series of confrontations, which went 4-0 in his favour. He was in a pot, & some geezer spoke out of turn "how much to me" with 3 players still to act in front of him. Well, that lost Simon his customers, & he went off on one - quite right too!

Alan Smurfit - 9.5k

Dave Colclough, 28k.

Tony G 4,500.

Remind me who Red Fox is - is it Malcolm McKinley? I've not seen him lately, but I'll have another look.

Frank Sinopli, from Holywood, Florida, has 42k.

Devilfish, 7k

Martin Green 10k

Kate Szeremeta 12k. The 2k attributed to her earlier was incorrect. She is VERY cute.

Pascal Perrault 11k

Anthony Lellouche 47k

will do Dubai. Why ain't you & dpommo here?

Ok, just seen a monster pot between Luke Smith (TheDoc12345) & Chicken Joe Kuomi. Or it may be his brother. This was the, err, slightly larger one.

They get isolated pre-flop, & it goes like this.

 8d 9c Th

Check check.

 2h

Check check.

 7s

At this point, Luke mini-raises, Joe RR'd, Luke mini RRR'd, then all hell lets loose, & all the chips go in.

Luke turns over  Js Qd

Joe turns over....

There is no kettle or coffee in the room.

What is it with foreign hotels, don't they understand our need for coffee?

Anyone in Dam not busy and willing to run a coffee over to Jen, would be gratefully received  lol

"Coffee" in Amsterdam is probably an  euphemism(nb Tikay) for hashish, if the coffee shops are anything to go by  :dontask:

Tony Kessa has 16k

Paul Alterman has 17k

Simon Trumper 5k

Jen out? No, say it ain't so.......... She SO wanted to do well in that. She's been "3 outered" so many times. I ache for her. It's so nice when a "regular player" gets a shot at the big time, especially someone as self-effacing and nice as Jen, she's golden. Well, maybe a sponsor will take a look at her now. I hope so.

Patrick Antonius best player in Europe? Don't know about that, but he's sure hot. There was a GRRAt tussle between him & Thewy earlier, & Antonius was the guy who hit the nut flush against Thewy, when Thewy was a non-believer.

I'm not dead on my feet I'm just on screensaver.  Worry not.

I don't know if you remember from the WPT in Paris the enthusiastic team from EverestPoker?  The lovely ladies who bewitched Tikay and got us pointed in the direction of their qualifiers about whom they were pleased as punch?  Well they were back today with a 21-year old medical student qualifier by the name of Rick Dawson, and a slightly older French gentleman qualifier, and I wished we could have got a pic of them both as they were sat at the same table for a long time.  Not sure if either still in, but Rick clearly endeared himself to the team as just being "so cute."

Having been so remiss with Red Fox news - here's some:  He moved all-in under the gun for a very small 3,650 (with  Kd Kc, as it happens) and got a call with  8c 8s.  The board came out  9h Jc Qs 5s 7h to get him back to 8,000.  Still not a giant stack with the blinds at 200 - 400 ante 50, but back in it.

And for the other Fox - Stuart - he's now on a very comfortable 38,000, having doubled up with flopped quad nines.  That was, according to him, "quite easy to play."

Patrik Antonius is still doing well (as you all clearly expect) with 55,000, but there are two REALLY big stacks (belonging to people I have yet to introduce myself to) - over 100k.

You guys work way to hard, I just won another seat in the Foxwoods event, took 5 hours instead of 7 like last night, Im done for the day, going to watch a movie, wakeup at 9am for a massage and then play the $5,000 event here at Foxwoods! But it would be fun to be there so I could take on all takers in a little side action of heads up!!!!! Easy $$$$$$$

Sorry for break in service, Camel came to tell us stories about young Jake.........

So, play has ended. While the official counts are being sorted, here's a selected few.

Pippa Flanders 26k - she had a straight flush!

Surinder Sunar 12k

Martin Green 12k

Thewy - who got sooooo lucky with AK v KK, 41k

More........

Well, for this last half hour there's been a bit of a slowdown and they're calling a halt right at this moment.  Which means that a handful over a hundred players have to come back tomorrow, but only 27 get paid... we'll leave the tension creation til tomorrow and just say that a few of your favourites have ended the day in good shape:

Julian Thew    41,000
Stuart Fox      45,000
Paul Alterman  18,000 (who just lost a preflop raising war with Julian who'd had enough of his reraises and instantly re-re-raised 20k getting a quick fold)
Rob Hollink      13,500
Marcel Luske   26,000
Noah Boeken  46,000
Tim Flanders    15,000
Mike Tse         13,500 (after I lost track of him for about 4 hours and had consigned him to 'out' status, he popped up on the feature table looking quite comfortable with some chips in front of him)

Kate Szeremeta 13k

John Kabbaj 42k

Steve Jelenik 50k. He just flopped THE nuts with AJ, & although a scary flush came, Matey Boys pocket 3's were blown away.

Sverre Sundbo 35k

Anthony Lellouche, 7k

Isabelle Mercier 10k

Jim Reid 19k

Johan Storakers 23k

The Vietnamese gentleman - very nice man, too -  who Pete Costa blew away on LNP - 44k.

These counts are of course only as accurate as our wavery eyesight; they are compiling the Real List of all counts but it's both going to take a while and probably not be instantly available when completed.  So the full list of all players and their remaining chips will have to wait until tomorrow afternoon to be revealed in its fulness to you all.
