blinds and antes is a big part of the game and Alex Martin attempted just that a moment or two ago, popping it up to 3.6k on Iwan Jones' big blind.
The big welshman was having none of it though, picking his stack up and moving it all into the middle, causing Alex to laugh out loud before quickly mucking his cards. Timing's everything in this game! James Dempsey was one of those, but it turns out he wasn't quite late enough as he just played out a big pot with Paul Foltyn.
He had Tens, Pab had Aces...the flop came 9 hi and once the dust had settled Flushy had lost 30k+ of his stack. "Wish I'd turned up 10 minutes later" he said glumly. A more upbeat Pab was happily stacking the chips although he had some words of consolation for Flushy. "I didn't want to take them off you, honest"...though I couldn't see behind him where he no doubt had a couple of fingers crossed. Great start for Pab, not so great for Flushy, though if anyone can rebuild his stack, then James can, I'm sure. Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Luton: Day 2 - At A Glance Post by: snoopy1239 on August 09, 2008, 03:13:10 PM Nick Gibson will have been relieved to have played the opening round. Without too much delay, he saw his stack increase courtesy of Alex Loh. Pushing with pocket tens, Nick quickly made the call with jacks and subsequently hit a clinical J-7-8-K-5 rainbow board. "What a start," commented one media man watching the action as Loh made his exit. "Makes a change," replied Nick, clearly suffering from a poor run in the later stages of comps.
The next hand, Peter Wigglesworth pushed from the button with A-K, Nick showed a jack in the big blind and made the fold. With just 3,225 at the start of play, veteran Howard Whittingham was in search of a miracle and a gentle prod from the Poker Gods, but neither emerged as his handful of chips went in with Jc 5d against the Ad 3d of Mike Ellis. The powers that be saw need to tease though, dealing out a Ks Qc Jh flop before giving the 2007 GUKPT Final champion a Broadway straight on the Ts turn. No change on the 7c river, and Howard was a sitting duck. One player to endure early misfortunes was Jonathan Martin. No bad beats in sight, but a deck colder than a mother-in-law's kiss has seen his stack drop to a paltry 2,800. In his own words: "I called a preflop raise from Leo Kam with Kings, checked a queen high flop and bet 4,000 on the raggy turn. When the board paired on the river, it cost me 12,000 to find out that Leo had flopped a set of queens." It's scant consolation, but at least he's still in, which is the best he could have hoped for after a flop like that. At precisely the same time as Jonathan Martin was justifying the untimely demise of his stack, there was an all-in encounter on the same table that was forcing me to multi-task between listening to Jonathan and watching the showdown unfold out of the corner of my eye. My job was helped somewhat by the gasps as the flop was dealt, Adam Lawler's pocket kings being cruelly outdrawn by David Batty's pocket fives on a 5-3-8-4-7 rainbow board. His namesake was known for the odd kick in the shin and a fighting spirit, and this was emulated here as David saved his tournament life by the very skin of his teeth. For an entertaining tournament, it's good to keep people like 'Mad Turk' Yucel Eminoglu alive, although it does require a generous board from time to time. All in for just five or six thousand, Turk and his Ac 6h was looking for assistance against Jerome Bradpiece's Th Tc. An Ahrt first card led to a yelp from the Grosvenor Walsall regular before an understandable display of anxiety and subsequent clench fists on the ensuing, but ultimately ineffective 5h Kc 7h 4d board gave the Turk the pot. Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Luton: Day 2 - At A Glance Post by: JungleCat03 on August 09, 2008, 03:32:57 PM More good news for Dana-maniacs!
Despite her late arrival, Dana turned up looking very smart and has had a great start to the day, winning a big pot with A-Q versus J-J when an Ace hit the flop and following this up with a raise, which both blinds called, before betting another Ace on the flop and both blinds follded in the face of the banjo wielding lady's aggression. Up to 80k now, she's storming along nicely, and looking very dapper. With the board reading 2c Kh 7c, Leo checked-raised Adam's bet of 10,000 to 30,000 and Adam made the call. A 9s on the turn led to Leo check-calling Adam's all-in before flipping over Ac Kd. Adam was understandably disappointed as he turned over Qh Qc. No queen on the river and Adam's plight was complete. Leo, meanwhile, has now leapt into the chip lead like a flying squirrel with a ginormous stack of 160,000. Surely a favourite to make that final, if not win the whole thing.
Adam Stoneman is out. I didn't catch the hand myself, but a reliable source informed me that it was a simple A-Q versus J-J all-in preflop jobby with the A-Q obviously failing to hit. Although nurturing a short-stack for the day, Abishek (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1316) Khaitan (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1316) has finally bitten dust after getting it in with the best of it. With Ac Jh against Kh Jd, he seemed in confident spirits, but the 7h 5c Kc squashed any good vibes whilst the 3c turn and 4h river sealed the deal. "Always a pleasure, Abi," said neighbour Nik (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=314) Persaud (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=314) as he departed. We're a former GUKPT winner down, Blackpool victor Paul (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1522) Bracken (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1522) suffering an early fate at the hands of Gary Cargill. Again, it was a simple affair, a classic A-K versus tens encounter favouring Gary on a Q-A-5-A-6 rainbow board. Yet more drama as the Hampstead Hammer tunes up the old banjo and fires out another twangy melody. Raising to 4,200 preflop, Dana is called in two places, one in the big blind and another in Jeff Buffenbarger on the button. On the Td 7c 8d flop, Dana fondles her chips phallically like a hesitant virgin on prom night and leads out for 7,000. As the action reaches Jeff, the Michigan man (no, not the tyre guy) sighs deeply before, and it seemed like a rather reluctant decision, sliding in his remaining stack. As the big blind folds, Dana asks how much more it is to call. Just 7,400 is the reply, and although small in comparison to the pot, it's clear that Dana's fingers have been caught in the cookie jar as she smiles and shakes her head dismissively. After a few moments, she announces "I really don't want to have to show this crap" before indeed "showing this crap" and calling with Qc Jh. However, to her shock (I think she almost fell off her chair), she was actually ahead as Jeff revealed 6c 4c for the double belly belly straight draw. Although he had a number of outs, none of them emerged on the Th turn and Js river and the pot went sailing over to the crazy banjo lady. Miss Immanuel is now on over 80,000 in chips after taking out yet another victim. Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Luton: Day 2 - At A Glance Post by: JungleCat03 on August 09, 2008, 03:43:51 PM Roberto took a big hit to his stack, knocked down to 15k or so and was looking like he would be in trouble.
A loud Welsh roar of "gettin!" from his table signalled however that he might have turned things round, and this proved the case. I joined the hand as Roberto was raking in the pot with T-J in front of him, a lone Jack on the flop and his opponent Michael Manning looking a little disgruntled with A-Q on show. I didn't see when the chips went in but it's more than possible there was some kind of outdraw invovled. Whatever, this was the cue for Roberto to turn Radio Romanello on full blast. "I'm back in the game! I've always been a battler! You can never rule me out!" he told his table, just in case there was any doubt. "And my shirt's stripy!" he didn't add. But it is! Here he is with his new 30k stack. (http://blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=19816&g2_serialNumber=1) Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Luton: Day 2 - At A Glance Post by: JungleCat03 on August 09, 2008, 04:25:49 PM You could do almost an entire update just on Flushy's stack which has been up and down like a loose lady's knickers.
He won a big pot off Pab calling his preflop raise from the big blind with 8h 6h - and when the flop came T-8 blank Flushy was convinced he was ahead. Even when the chips went in and Pab showed him A-T, he was still convinced he was ahead and when he hit a six to make two pair - he was! Good hand reading skills at work there by the flushmeister. He then worked his stack back up to LOTS, flopping a set against Stu Rutter with pocket threes and picking up the pot, before this hand played out. With over 100,000, Flushy was happy to see Pab raise ("He's been very busy") and another player re-raise in front of him, as he looked down to fins Kings. He re-popped it to 100,000 and was called by the re-raiser, who held pocket eights. This time however his luck was out as a little snowman hit the flop to leave his cowboys defeated. Miraculously, he still has 85,000 though. Some sort of sedative may be in order for Flushy. Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Luton: Day 2 - At A Glance Post by: snoopy1239 on August 09, 2008, 04:58:52 PM Just heard Graham (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1803) Wheldon (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1803) aka 'chompy' lost a 50k pot allin pre with 9s 9h v 3d 3h....his opponent hit quads....ouch! Still he's got 45k with a gr8 game and on his home turf will get it back soon no doubt. Go on graham! I assume the above hand occurred after his double up, but Graham initially hit the 70,000 mark after eliminating Welsh wizard Roberto Romanello. With Graham raising it up to 5,000 with pocket kings, Roberto made it 17,000 with J-T and Graham put him in for his final 6,000. A jack high all spade flop favoured Graham, although the Londoner also boasted a flush draw in the aresenal. A blank turn and river later and the pot was his. Here he is looking content with life, if a little bemused. (http://blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=19826&g2_serialNumber=1) Can we get an update on Alex (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1198) Martin (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1198) please? Alex Martin is pushing up the poker daisies I'm afraid and accompanying Roberto on the rail. Alex made his move with A-Q, but ran into the A-K of Paul Folytn which subsequently held up. Alex was a little concerned that he could have got away from it, but James Dempsey assured him that he made the right play. Whilst Pab leaps up to a chip-lead threatening 148,000, Alex can only vomit into his glass and watch the remaining action from the sidelines... like thus: (http://blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=19818&g2_serialNumber=1) Rough chip count for Javed if possible, please. Didn't realize the billy was still in. I can do better than that! Here he is facing a bet of 8,600 on a 3s 3d 8d flop from Richard Gryko after the latter called his under-the-gun preflop raise of 6,600. Javed eventually folded, to leave himself with crica 65,000 in chips. Mo Muse, meanwhile, is no where to be seen. No Muse is good news, as they say (sorry, I simply couldn't resist). Double up for Panicos Ellinas on Dana's former table. All in with Js Jc against Huseyin Yilmaz's Ac Qc, he survived a 5d 7h 9s Ks 9d board to lap up the pot. Simultaneously, David Seear was eliminated by Sami Yusef on a neighbouring table. He called all in with Ac Qd versus 7h 7c on a 4d Ad 7d flop, but was unable to improve as the turn and river came 3h and 3s respectively. Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Luton: Day 2 - At A Glance Post by: JungleCat03 on August 09, 2008, 05:08:33 PM Disaster!
Dana is...OUT! Here's the tale of woe as it happened. There was a raise from late position to 6,000, and Dana, finding Queens, re-raised to 18,000. She was flat called. The flop came A-A-9. Check, check. The turn was an Ace. Dana checked again, only for mateyboy to bet out a small amount, which she now check raised all-in. Unfortunately for her, she had run into quad aces as he tabled A-9 for the flopped house which had improved. Ooooh, nasty. Drawing dead, Dana had no choice but to gather her gun bag and depart the area, looking somewhat sad and miserable that it had all gone wrong. Don't be down though Dana, we all thought you did great. Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Luton: Day 2 - At A Glance Post by: JungleCat03 on August 09, 2008, 05:14:31 PM Some assorted chip counts from around the felt.
Nik Persaud - 74,000. Ian Cox - 61,000 Steve Jelinek - 65,000 Martin Green - 32,000 Chris Moorman - 16,000 Des Jonas - 22,000 Pippa Flanders - 25,000 Pippa just played out a potentially doubling up hand. Mad Turk shoved from UTG and Pippa took a little while deciding whether to call. "Call if you like me!" exclaimed the turkster, and Pippa showed her fondness for him by making the call with A-J. It proved a good call as Turk could only muster the slightly behind K-Q. "Gimme a queen!" he encouraged the dealer, but a board of 7-2-7-2 came out, leaving him sweating the river. No K or Q on the river. In fact it was another seven. Turk was gathering his belongings before realising the full house on board meant that there was a split! Cue clapping celebrations from Mad Turk and a face like thunder from Pippa, who looked very upset this opportunity to double up had passed her by. As I approached the crime scene, I was met by a Kd Ts 4s 7s 9d board with a Td Th in front of Andrew's stack and the Aspades Ks before Martin Jarvis (pictured).
Fortunately, Dara O'Kearney was able to fill in the details: "Andrew raised it up with his tens preflop and received three callers. On the flop, the action checked round to the button who bet out 10,000. Martin made it 30,000, Andrew called, and the other two players ducked out of the way. It all went in on the turn" Andrew was, of course, unable to pair the board and is now back down to 35-40,000. Stu Rutter has knocked out Des Jonas apparently. The nutter on the march. Huseyin Yilmaz's stack has vacillated wildly today but he has now been busted, shoving on the button with A-5 and running into pocket threes, which held. Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Luton: Day 2 - At A Glance Post by: snoopy1239 on August 09, 2008, 06:15:43 PM Steve Tucker is out, as is Ian Cox who just this second ran nines into queens.
Also gone is Mark Suddes (please excuse blurry photo - he was twisting and turning like a one legged ferret). Mark got it all in with Jc Tc against the Ac 8h of David La Ronde, but was unable to catch up on an Ahrt 8c 2d 9s Aspades board. (http://blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=19848&g2_serialNumber=1) Although most hands being reported are all-in extravaganzas, players are being given the opportunity to play the streets, as shown in the next hand. With the flop reading Td 8s 7h, Gary Cargill bet 17,000 and Iwan Jones made the call. The turn came a Qs, and Gary checked, only for Iwan to bet out 24,000. With both players boasting meaty stacks, Gary realised the importance of his decision and thus dipped into the think tank for a good few minutes. Each player remained stoic in posture with both emulating the other with a pensive chin on hand posture. After a while, the Welshman requested the clock, and a one minute warning was given. Within thirty seconds, Gary had made the fold, but was chagrined to see Iwan proudly reveal a surely inferior Ac 9s. Sam Trickett has 70k ish, Moomin 45k, Flushy was down to 85k after losing a 70k pot with A-K versus Aces. "I always lose these coin flips" he said. Then Flushy sees Peter Arrigoni raise from early position to 6k and makes the call from the button. The flop comes 2h Jh 6h. Peter bets out 6k again, which Flushy re-pops to 24k pretty quickly. After lots of thought, Peter folds and Flushy sweeps up the pot. "I wanted action..... but not off a set" says Flushy. Do you beleive him? Here he is sweeping up his stack. He lost them just before the break. Apparently they went to Andreas Mihail in seat 10, but I'm not sure how I'm afraid. Either way, Leo has doubled that short stack up over the last few minutes with A-3 versus Rob Sherwood's 7-7 when the board came 2-6-4-5-K to give Leo the straight. Martin Green has clawed his way back into the tournament after out-drawing Nik Persaud's A-Q with K-Q. The board came 3-K-5-J-5 to give the Liverpudlian the pot and a newly acquired stack of 75,000. Pab re-raised from the small blind to isolate and Iwan Jones passed his big blind.
Moorman only had A-6, so was happy to be in a coin flip versus Pab's pocket fives. A 6 came on the flop and no fives appeared, meaning the Ace on the river giving the moomin two pair was redundant but he doubled up to 60,000 there, Pab reduced to about the same... Bad luck Pab but go Moomin! (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v347/Kellerz/moomin.jpg) Moorman was happy, so happy in fact he raised the next hand to 8.5k but was re-popped and folded quickly. Undeterred he raised the very next hand to 8.5, only for Iwan Jones this time to re-raise to 30k and again Moorman passed. 17k of his profit down the drain... Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Luton: Day 2 - At A Glance Post by: JungleCat03 on August 09, 2008, 08:27:00 PM 2008's resident pwner of the GUKPT tour, Nik Persaud hasn't been able to add to his string of impressive cashes this year as he exited the tournament recently.
Facing a late position raise, he pushed all-in over the top with J-Q and enough chips to make mateyboy pass, but mateyboy had Kings and was going nowhere. No surprises on the flop mean we lose the bubbly Nik. "That's just the way it goes sometimes" he added philosophically. Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Luton: Day 2 - At A Glance Post by: JungleCat03 on August 09, 2008, 08:38:24 PM A key time approaching with 34 players left. Yes folks it's that tense-est of moments.....
(http://firstrung.co.uk/dbimgs/bubbles_big.jpg) time! 32 players are being paid meaning there are two unlucky players who will find themselves potless after two long days of play. Who will be the luckless duo? One player who has added himself to the list of casualties is our resident PHA expert James Dempsey. David Laronde has caused carnage today and he did the damage to Flushy as well. He bet out on an A-2-4 flop, only for Flushy to move allin. He made the call with A-3 and was suprised to find himself in such good shape, Flushy only able to table 3-4 for a pair and gutshot. Drawing for a 4 FTW or a 5 for a split, Flushy missed both, meaning Laronde buffers his ever increasing stack yet further whilst the colourful James Dempsey goes busto and finds himself dismissed to the rail close to the money threshold. Bad luck kipper. The show continues... Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Luton: Day 2 - At A Glance Post by: snoopy1239 on August 09, 2008, 08:42:47 PM Table 2:

Bring back Flushy! A quick recap of how the players are faring... Moorman is enjoying himself having made quite a decent comeback, up to 90,000 now... Pab is hanging in there with 60,000, ready to drop a few bombs anytime now. He and Moorman keep pointing to each other's eyes in the ever more popular universal sign for "in your eye". Stuart Rutter is another player who has made a sterling comback. Down to 2k at one point, this has blossomed into an attractive 135,000 stack which he is wielding with pride. That's it, no more bubble. It's burst folks and those two unlucky players who go home empty handed were Jeffery Rogers and Mark Wilson. Jeffrey Rogers busted out 34th in unfortunate fashion. He moved over the top of a Sam Trickett raise and told him "You don't have to call you know!" He knew he was probably ahead with As Ks but when Sam called with live cards in Ts Js, trouble was brewing. One flop of 9c 6c Tc Th 2c later, Tricky Sam Trickett had added to his growing stack whilst Rogers looked glum and just picked up his coat and left. It's a tough game sometimes. This hand attracted so much attention as the first bustout in about three days that Mark Wilson's exit hand was overlooked and he finished as the official bubble boy in 33rd. All in the money guys! Hooray! Sam Tricket quickly took anohter scalp in Ken Wong. Holding 9s on a Th 8h x flop he called Wong's all-in and he was good but Wong had a lot of outs holding Jh Qh for two overs a gutshot and a flush draw. The Qs on the turn seemed to have sealed things for Wong but a Jc on the river brought a fistpump from Trickett as he took down yet another pot and sent one more to the rail. Trickett's well on the march now and is looking ever more likely to be a big threat to take down the competition. Snoopy has more action from the felt but I'm off to check the latest carnage! Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Luton: Day 2 - At A Glance Post by: snoopy1239 on August 09, 2008, 10:36:27 PM Apologies for any delays, conditions here aren't perfect. There's no wifi so we're working from a snail-paced mobile data card, and every time we head back to the press room, we have to wait for a member of staff to let us in. On top of that, I've just witnessed tens all-ins in a row, which is making it nigh on impossible to keep up with the action. Nevertheless, I'll give it a stab, starting with the departure of Ken (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=232) Wong (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=232).
On a 7c Th 8h flop, Ken Wong pushed for 65,000 ( I am told this was around twice the pot) and Sam Trickett made the call with 9c 9h. Wong tabled Qh Jh, and although he hit a Qd on the turn, the Jd gave him two pair, but Trickett a straight. As a result of that encounter, Sam Trickett is now on over 400,000 and your current chip leader. (http://blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=19906&g2_serialNumber=1) (http://blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=19904&g2_serialNumber=1) On another table, Stuart Rutter raises it up to 17,000, Dara O'Kearney pushes for 23,000 only for Liam Boland to come over the top for a total of 55,000 (or thereabouts). Stuart asks for a count before eventually passing A-Qo. On their backs, and Liam is behind with Ad Qc against the Irishman's 5c 5d, which manages to hold up on Jc 3c 4s 2h Tc board. Dara now on 70,000. (http://blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=19902&g2_serialNumber=1) A hand or two later, Liam Boland fought back by doubling up with A-Q versus 3-3 on a 7-4-Q-8-2 board. "Now he's got some chips to go with his salmon," said someone from the rail. (http://blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=19892&g2_serialNumber=1) Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Luton: Day 2 - At A Glance Post by: snoopy1239 on August 09, 2008, 10:47:43 PM It's bedlam here as we encounter yet another all-in, this time on the central table. As they wait for the cameras to capture the action, Richard Gryko is looking good for a near double up with Ahrt Kc versus the Aspades 9s of Paul Noury. A 6s Tc Kh 3c 6c is clinical and Paul Noury is gone.
(http://blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=19890&g2_serialNumber=1) After a plucky performance of Rocky proportions, Adam Wilkinson has finally bitten dust at the hands of Stuart Rutter. All in with Kd Td against Ac Ts, Wilko was left to emulate that annoying insurance ad by chanting "diamond, diamond, diamond" as the 2d 3c 7d flop dealt out flush draw possibilities. The Aspades turn and 3s river were both favourable to The Nutter, and the mad Irishman hit the bricks. Along the way, we have also lost Conan Bailey, Leo Kam and Neil Bethune. 'Pab' Paul Foltyn is out. He pushed for around 45,000 on the button with A-5o, but was picked off by A-Q in the big blind. No improvement. Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Luton: Day 2 - At A Glance Post by: snoopy1239 on August 09, 2008, 10:53:01 PM Sam Trickett is eating up players like a kid with a bag of monster munch. The latest victim was Ian Frazer who was unable to out-coinflip his Nottingham foe with eights versus A-K on an ensuing king high board. Trickett is a monster chip leader now with around 600,000.

One hand that neatly illlustrated this saw Andreas Mihail raising from late position to 18,000, only to see Liam Boland raising all-in for another 45k or so... "Do you want me to call?" asked Andreas to which Liam wittily responded, "I don't mind either way...I'd like a double up but it would defeat the point of the game if I told you my cards!" The table laughed at this and finally Andreas called saying "I like your face...I'll call with a flush draw, " making the call with Kc 8c which was well behind Liam's pocket Tens. A flop of J-9-9-4-4 transpired, doubling through Liam who told Andreas with a smile..."That was a terrible call but thank you very much!" "You know I'm joking" he added as the table ooohed and aaahhhed at his rub down. "Get it quietly!" laughed Sam (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1429) Trickett (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1429), who has been doing exactly that for some time with his 600k+ stack. Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Luton: Day 2 - At A Glance Post by: snoopy1239 on August 09, 2008, 11:07:33 PM Please note that Paul Noury didn't exit in the Gryko hand. Paul had Richard covered, but is still the current short stack.

is chompy graeme wheldon still in? Yes, Graham Wheldon had his turn on the chopping block a couple of rounds back. He had A-K versus the Q-Q of Wayne Mardle, but couldn't improve. Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Luton: Day 2 - At A Glance Post by: JungleCat03 on August 09, 2008, 11:43:26 PM Gary Cargill went busto in 19th spot...unfortunately the hectic nature of the poker meant the details eluded both myself and the dog.
Any complaints for the lack of detail, blame this fella... After reraising Sam (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1429) Trickett (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1429)'s preflop raise of 21,000 to 63,000, Sam made the call and the two youngsters saw a 4h 3d 5c flop. Sam checked, Chris bet 80,000, and Sam announced call.
(http://blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=19918&g2_serialNumber=1) With both players quickly checking the 2s turn, we took a journey into the twilight zone as the Qh river led to the biggest pot of the tournament. As the final card hit the felt, Sam announced all in for around 450,000 and casually waved his hand in the air to gesticulate the motion. Tortured by the decision ahead, Chris sat back in his chair and requested a count. The dealer, however, wasn't able to oblige and could only spread the pot, although he did indeed later stack the chips into columns so it was clear that around 300,000 was already in the pot. With his head resting in his hands, Chris continued to fidget in his seat as a large crowd of onlookers swamped the rail. Sam, meanwhile, remained cucumber cool, and sat motionless with his hand propped against his right cheek. (http://blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=19916&g2_serialNumber=1) With the rail becoming impatient, Chris called the clock on himself, but was forced to ask the dealer to make the call when his request fell on stony ground. "I can't call the clock on you," replied the dealer, at which point Stuart (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=421) Rutter (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=421) waltzed in offering, "I'll call it for you." As the tournament director tracked the minute hand on his wristwatch, the tension increased to a near unbearable level as everyone watching became increasingly eager to see a hand. With three seconds remaining, they got their wish as Moorman made a last ditch call. Without hesitation, Sam turned over Ad Jd and Chris mucked. To the shock of the crowd, Chris was out, and an absolutely mammoth pot went sailing over to the Nottingham based pro who now boasts a monster monster chip lead. Rumour has it that Chris had queens. In the aftermath, Sam claimed, "I wasn't sure what he was on really until the end, I guess he had jacks, or maybe he hit a set on the river with queens". The first man to drop was Dara O'Kearney. He was all in with Ad Jd against the Ahrt Kh of Paul Noury, but was unable to pair his jack as the board came 4s 8h 4d 6h 2h.
Table 4: Andreas Milhail -- 112,400 Stuart Rutter -- 161,100 Sam Trickett -- 1,018,100 Martin Jarvis -- 269,900 Richard Gryko -- 165,500 Martin Green -- 256,200 James Mitchell -- 144,000 Table 5: David La Ronde -- 382,700 Wayne Mardle -- 288,500 Liam Boland -- 97,300 Andy Warnes -- 141,600 Peter Arrigoni -- 136,200 Javad Akhtar -- 137,900 Paul Noury -- 152,300 Paul Rigg -- 130,500 Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Luton: Day 2 - At A Glance Post by: JungleCat03 on August 10, 2008, 12:52:57 AM Sick hand alert !
David La Ronde calls a raise from Paul Noury. The flop comes Ad Kd Tc and Noury leads for a small 20k. La Ronde sits there for a few moments before announcing all-in for a big overbet of the pot. Noury calls faster than an insta-call showing he has trapped Laronde into making a big overshove into his nuts, holding J-Q for the straight. La Ronde is dead in the water and looks embarrassed to turn over his T-9 offsuit. But I told you it was sick and the J and Q on the turn and river make a straight on the board to snatch a chop from the jaws of defeat for Laronde. Noury looks gutted, La Ronde says rather obviously "Didn't realise you got the straight!" Paul Noury - you've just got to laugh. Eventually after a while, Noury pushes over the top and La Ronde makes a big fuss before passing what he later claims is Jacks. Akhtar is all-in with pocket eights and Noury finds himself in great shape with 9-9 and glad to have pushed La Ronde's dominating hand out of the pot. The flop comes A-4-Q-A-Q and Noury wins the pot rather suprisingly with his 2 pair of Aces and Queens with a 9 kicker jsut outpipping Akhtar's eight kicker. Akhtar bites the dust... Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Luton: Day 2 - At A Glance Post by: JungleCat03 on August 10, 2008, 01:01:45 AM The jovial Liam Boland and his acerbic wit have been removed from the competition at the hands, or rather the hand of David La Ronde. La Ronde raced his pocket sixes against Boland's A-K and even though a King hit the flop, the blessed La Ronde four flushed to take the pot to a chorus of sympathetic oooohs and we find ourselves closing in ever nearer to the final table. Good game Liam. Just to elaborate on this exit, David La Ronde raised it to 20,000 from early position, only for Liam Boland to push all in just two seats down for what looked to be in the region of 130,000. "I know I'm ahead, I know I'm ahead," said La Ronde, convinced he was er... ahead. Off came the ipod as David continued, "Do you have a pair?" "It would spoil the game if I said," was the reply. After fiddling with his chips profusely, David was ultimately justified in his premonitions as he made the call with 6h 6d, only to be shown Ac Kc. As the first card came Kd, David looked away in disappointment, but with a subsequent 4d and 3d, his attention was suddenly rekindled. By the 2d turn, it was all over, and Liam's face turned to thunder. By the time the dealer had popped out the academic Jc on the river, Liam had already collected his coat and was on his way out. All in with Ad 8s against Aspades 6s, Andy will have been in confident mood of doubling through and sailing comfortably into the final day, but the nerves were a jangling more than usual as the Ts 5c 5s dealt Andreas a welcome straight draw. Judging by the anxious expression on his face, I think Andy knew his fate, and by the Js turn, he was following Liam Boland towards the exit door.
