Title: DTD Monthly £300 Freezeout - Day 1 - At A Glance Post by: JungleCat03 on September 06, 2008, 07:16:10 PM Welcome one and all to the wonderful poker locale that is Dusk Till (http://www.dusktilldawnpoker.com/)Dawn (http://www.dusktilldawnpoker.com/) as we prepare to embark on the journey to crown the latest DT (http://www.dusktilldawnpoker.com/)D (http://www.dusktilldawnpoker.com/) £300 tournament champion.
As numbers appear to be relatively low for the Bolton GUKPT, this bodes well for us here in Nottingham and we can no doubt expect a glut of faces, some familiar, some less familiar vying for the much coveted title. Myself and Jen, who is fresh from donking off yet another stack at a GUKPT, are here to cover all the ins and outs, the coming and goings, shippings and hollering we expect from a poker tournament and we anticipate an exciting, closely fought contest. Come with us now on a journey through time and space to the world of This is the At A Glance thread which will be reserved for the updaters to use and will contain a pared down, stripped version of the action with just the key events related. Should stilll be a laugh though (we hope!) Title: Re: DTD Monthly £300 Freezeout - Day 1 - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on September 06, 2008, 08:11:21 PM THIS IS NOT A TEST (or a joke...)
Red-Dog is ALL IN within six minutes of play beginning! Tikay rushed to his side as an opponent giving him plenty of credit folded Ad Ac face up on the flop of J-9-2... I prayed for him to show the bluff, but no cigar. C'est la vie. 74 runners, and counting... (nearly 73 just then). Title: Re: DTD Monthly £300 Freezeout - Day 1 - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on September 06, 2008, 08:42:31 PM Early action - a fair few chips drift in the direction of Leon Rovira (pictured stacking those very same chips). It appears he had raised preflop and seen a flop of Kd 8h 2s with opponent Alan Stokes (pictured not stacking chips, in the blue cardy). Check to the 2c turn, and the second black deuce kicked off some action at last - a bet out of 400 by Stokes, raised to 1,000 by Rovira, and instacalled.
River: 5d Check to Rovira, who quickly bet 3k, which was called pretty quickly by Stokes, who mucked to see the fair to monstrous 8d 8s in the youngster's hand. Lots of James "The Atkinator" Atkin updates please :) (http://blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=20666&g2_serialNumber=1) Here's your enfant terrible, just busted... "Three hands determined my tournament life," he said. And they were: Starting with a Kc Jh which flopped top pair against an under the gun preflop limper, and as the board progressed raggy, he ended up losing about 3k to A-J. Then Ah 5h hit a Qh 4h 9d board enough to get a good few chips from him as Anthony Nicholls AND another player were clearly interested - the small blind third player check-raising the flop to 1,200 and taking both others with him. James gave up by the time the river paired with the 4c, but Tony flat called the other's final bet with Qs 9s which had been sucked out by 9s 4c... Finally, it was a pair: 6h 6c which called a button raise preflop with a couple of others only to flop an un-get-awayable 5-7-8. Queens weren't going anywhere, and he's eyeing up the £50 comp :) Title: Re: DTD Monthly £300 Freezeout - Day 1 - At A Glance Post by: JungleCat03 on September 06, 2008, 09:03:13 PM Jen may be mocking my elementary maths skills, but what she failed to realise was I factoring in a tip. Honest.
Anyways, how about an update from that bastion of blondepoker Mr Tony Kendall himself. Finding Kings, he popped it up to 200, only to receive SIX callers. "...which was great" he added sardonically. The flop popped out a draw heavy 6-7-9 with two hearts and Tikay wasn't interested in betting just yet with his Kings. "Thought I'd see the turn before putting any chips in..." he told me, which is no doubt eliciting a chuckle from Mr Rosbif, Flushy himself. The rest of the table also elected to check this. The turn fell a rather frightening 5h completing any flush or straight draws that happened to be lurking. Back to the man himself... "Well with no hearts i checked and it went bet, call, call, call ,call so I folded them. Got out cheap for only 200!" The winner of the hand was ultimately the form man of DTD, Mr. Richard Berridge. Tony was bemoaning Richard's early good fortune. "He's had THREE straights you know!" All I can say is despite his Kings being cracked, Tikay's looking mean!!! I think when the smoke cleared at the end of this frankly ridiculous hand the exiter was Stuart Hopkin, but I only got there towards the end as an excitable Tikay came to let us know that six limpers had all called a preflop raise to 400... The raiser was presumably Nathan Ticehurst, who, with Kh Ks was one of the two players to get his stack in on a 5c 4d 2c flop. The other was Hopkin, whose 5s 4s had done fairly well out of the first three cards. Turn: 7h River: 2s (and while I originally thought Hopkin held Fives and was surprised to see the pot going to Ticehurst) ..."Got there in the end," he said, somewhat apologetically, with the shrug of someone counting their nice new stack regardless. Title: Re: DTD Monthly £300 Freezeout - Day 1 - At A Glance Post by: JungleCat03 on September 06, 2008, 09:13:30 PM Sad to say that Dingdell is more busto than the eggshells used to make the omelette Jen is currently stuffing her face with.
A victim of Kings versus Aces, she couldn't get away and departs at this early stage, disappointed but wearing her omnipresent beaming smile as she wended her way to the nearby cash tables. Incidentally vis-a-vis Jen's omelette, as she was hunched over ravenously devouring her meal like a starving wolf presented with a freshly roasted chicken, I enquired gently, although somewhat foolishly if I could taste a bit. What turned round to confront me was no longer Jen the mild mannered updater but some insane, murderous denizen of hades, charged with protecting its horde of sustinence whatever the cost. I won't be asking again! Here is the demonic, caticidal killer herself... Snickers, he probably thought as he spied another pair of bullets trained on his stack.
The latest hand to create a dent in his stack involved him betting out with A-J on a 7d Jh 8c flop, only to receive a flat call and now a check raise. He decided he didn't like this spot so laid it down, though when the check raiser bet out big on the turn and lost his only customer he was denied the opportunity to see if he was right. Perhaps he got away from yet ANOTHER pair of bullets! Here is Nick, down a few chips but still full of beans. Maybe a redbull would help sir... Jack limped for 150, as did John Perrin, and then button Jason Wong upped it to 1,250. Interestingly, small blind Demetrios Nikolaidis as well as the two limpers called and saw a flop: 9h 7s 2s It checked round, bringing the Ts on the turn. Check to Greek Jack, who made it 3k to go, with only Nikolaidis calling this time. River: 3h Check to Greek Jack once again, who plonked in the rest of his stack - 6,500. He was called, albeit after some deliberation, by Nikolaidis (pictured) who showed 7d 7h and picked up the big pot and emptied seat 5. (http://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:uWQk3yknxXBw7M:http://richarddawkins.net/bdayPics/POLICE-SIREN-ANIMATED.gif) A 9k pot goes to Daniel Walker (top) after a ballsy 3,500 bet on the river with the board standing 8s 6s 9d 3c 2c. He left himself just 2,050 behind, which sent his opponent Andrew Woods (the guy leaning forward in consternation in the bottom photo) with a clearly unpleasant decision. He took a long time to pass, during which Walker just sat there, hoody lowered like the Evil Emperor in Star Wars, and calmly waited until Woods passed. When he showed him the busted flush draw Aspades 4s. He gave me an accurate chip count!
Wowzer. Normally Tikay will make bold and highly fallacious claims about his stack but on this occasion his pride was shining through as he showcased the glistening and very real 16,000 chips he has accumulated thusfar. Much of this was down to a fortuitous flop where 4 people limped on his big blind, he checked his option with Ahrt 7h and the dealer laid out a splendid 5h 6h 9h flop. Nice to flop the nuts with a redraw eh! Paul (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=324) Garnham (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=324) aka M3boy was one of the players to donate some chips this hand, in a spicy battle where he was unable to force Tikay off the nuts. Some players just can't fold eh? Anyway I was buoyed by Tikay's rare show of veracity and I began to leave the table with a rnew found optimism and feeling of love for mankind before he stopped me dead in my tracks... "Oh, but tell blonde I have 35,000 ok?" Cynicism mode restored. Faith in humanity>>>>recycle bin. Tikay has crushed my renewed spirit of hope like a quaver under a jack-boot. Here he is simultaneously boasting about his giant stack to red dog whilst holding in his stomach to appear more attractive. Does it work? Sadler raised to 700, only to find Mr Umpty, who is also known as Sean Breslin, re-raising all-in for a massive overshove of 7k! Sadler made the call with A-K, probably expecting to find himself in a race or facing the same hand, only for Breslin to show how he came by his allocated nickname as he tabled the way behind and dominated A-6. Poker is a fickle mistress though and on this occasion it was Sadler who was to be banished to the sofa with no tea or conjugal relations as the flop fell J-3-6-2-6 to give the fortunate Breslin trips and leave Sadler with a face like a bulldog chewing a lemon flavoured wasp. Breslin allegedly did not show any humility for this outdraw though, rubbing his opponent down in unsportsmanlike fashion by thumping the table savagely several times, so hard at one point it almost threatened to wake Tikay up from his usual mid level slumber. That's the way the cookie crumbles sometimes folks! Title: Re: DTD Monthly £300 Freezeout - Day 1 - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on September 06, 2008, 11:18:44 PM I don't know about you, but I just don't think Richard Berridge has done well enough here at DTD recently. All I can say is he just doubled up, giving him a good shot at this one, poor lamb.
Richard Berridge raised pre, re-raised by Ashley Smith to 2,100. Big blind Neil Blatchley had a good long dwell before passing, while early limper Liaquat Javed called quickly. Back to Berridge who was all in faster than Flushy can say, "Tapis!" and the full 6,325 was over to Smith to call. He eventually moved in over the top, effectively isolating with his Qs Qc - but Berridge tabled Ac Aspades. The flop came: 4s 9c Ac at which point a bit of a "WOOO!" escaped Richard, and he launched into a fast paced ramble about something like, "The last two comps I was knocked out with Aces" etc. etc. while a glum nearly-felted Smith looked on. Blatchley couldn't help telling everyone, "My Jacks were in bad shape then," before advising, "You should have slow played them." Berridge's response: "F*** off." Berridge= seat 1, Smith= stipey sleeved seat 3. Sometimes stats of these nature can be a little tedious so I have interspersed them with some random observations.
* 1st off the confirmed number of runners was 106. * Of these 80 combatants remain, including Tikay(20k+), M3boy (very short now) and Red Dog (15 plates of pie and chips to the good) * Jen has spent much of the last hour using photoshop to cut pictures of herself out to paste into obscene scenes of Ron Jeremy films. A very worrying development...(**) * We are 15 minutes into level five which is a 100 200 25 level. * Red Dog had pocket nines early on when he flopped top set and cleverly got his opponent to pass Aces. "'Ow did 'e pass?!?" he asked me in amazement. * 10 places will be paid. * 1st place will receive the grand total of £11,130. * The DT (http://www.dusktilldawnpoker.com/)D (http://www.dusktilldawnpoker.com/) burger, complete with burger, steak, bacon, cheese and onion, is still awesome. Incidentally on a tangential note, as of next month this DT (http://www.dusktilldawnpoker.com/)D (http://www.dusktilldawnpoker.com/) £300 will become a regular ranking event, ensuring its popularity is sure to rise. First off we have the mecurial, occasional controversial but now newly chipped up M3boy! After relating how he had suffered in the early levels and was nursing a shortstack, his fortunes have turned round in dramatic fashion such that he is now the chip daddy of his table with 23,000 of DTD's finest chips. Good work sir. That candlit dinner with Tikay clearly worked wonders... (http://blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=20718&g2_serialNumber=1) The adjacent table boasts Philip Toomer as the chip leader, though this is one of the shortstacked tables as he has a mere 12,000 to his name. Here is our illustrious leader with his marvellous stack. (http://blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=20722&g2_serialNumber=1) Next up we have table 11, where a man short on syllables but long on chips heads the ravenous pack of poker players looking to relieve him of his chips. No one appears more keen to take on this task than Blonde's own Frances Creed, taking time out from munching her sandwich to eye his chips covetously. That of Alan Stokes (featured presently in skyblue cardigan) has not only his formidable stack, but that of early leader Demetrios Nikolaidis. Neither of those two seem afraid to get it into the middle, and just now Stokes limp-called a raise from Nikolaidis to 1,800 (blinds now 150/300).
Flop: 2h 4s 4d Stokes bet out 2,500, and after a slow count out, found Nikolaidis raising to 5k. Stokes considered the minraise for a while, even at one point picking up a big stack of green 1k chips and rolling them around in his hand in a way even I on the rail found intimidating. But he passed. I then spent about 20 minutes watching Ralph 'Karabiner' Shalson, but he seemed determined to avoid action during that time. He still has c.8k though. Here he is, coiled like a cobra, ready for action, sporting a impressive cloudy sky-blue cardigan/ sweater.
(http://blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=20726&g2_serialNumber=1) Mazhar Latif is the man in charge of his table. He may look slightly uptight from this picture but this is just a touch of camera shyness and as soon as the camera was off him, he jovially backslapped his entire table before jumping up on the felt and performing the can-can, kicking avalanches of his newly won chips all over the place. Ok so that didn''t happen, but he is doing well nonetheless... (http://blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=20730&g2_serialNumber=1) Table 35 sees Alan Stokes as the current chip leader, who lost a bet with his wife, and was forced to turn up today in her dress. I assume. Anyway here he is, his questionable sartorial choices contrasting sharply with his impressive chip stack of 32,500. Go go Stokie! (http://blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=20732&g2_serialNumber=1) Finally we have Nick Carter on table 25, with 33,000, looking ready to take on the world, or at least the small portion of it who have ponied up 300 notes to do battle today... Both players then called her all-in; she put on her coat.
They quickly checked all the way down until the board read: Ad Kd Kc 8c 5s at which Fran's Tens were flipped, and both of the others kind of froze momentarily, before Tom Cairns showed some disappointing Jacks to knock her out. Karabiner plays hand! Of course, I miss it, and get there to see him stacking up his new 17k stack. Alan Stokes tries to order tea off me! He waves me over, as often happens, and I say, "I think you want her, I am afraid," nodding towards the valet currently taking an order from someone else at the table. "You're as good looking as she is, and she's busy. I've got a big order." :o Clearly not one to be put off ordering food from anyone female, he had clearly taken hold of the wrong end of the stick. Not one to turn down a tip, I handed him a menu, before backing slowly off, at which point the valet was ready to help him out. Rob Allen Made to Sweat for Double up! Neil Giblin performed the dwell of the tournament after calling an early position raise to something like 1,800 and then finding Rob Allen behind him moving in for 4,800 total. The original raiser passed, but he took a long time to make the call with what turned out to be Ahrt Jc, in bad shape against Allen's Js Jh. No outdraw, and a relieved-looking Allen was saved from the felt precipice. Title: Re: DTD Monthly £300 Freezeout - Day 1 - At A Glance Post by: JungleCat03 on September 07, 2008, 02:00:00 AM Sick Kular
Sarbjit Kular and Matt Russell just tangled in uncompromising fashion for a monster pot. Kular made it 3k or so UTG, only to find Russell shipping it in for his entire 17k stack over the top from UTG+1. It was a big call that required a big hand to make but Sarbjit was in no mood to back off calling the bulk of his stack off with pocket Queens and when Matt flipped his cards it transpired he held a slim advantage over Russell's A-K. This advantage rapidly dissipated though as a King spiked to leave Sarbjit clutching at a two-outer shaped straw, but the rest of the flop was much like the annual car parking awards ceremony - no ladies in sight. Ok, so I'll prob get some hate posts about that so apologies for my blatant sexism. Moving swiftly on... Here are the duo, posing in classic contrast as Russell is all smiles and laughter as he stacks up his chips whilst a glum Kular waits patiently to find a spot to double his micro-stack up into a mini stack. Scott Genever (pictured with the irrepressable small smile of the player who's come out doubling through when he could easily have been rail-propping) got his short stack all in on a flop of 3c 5s Kc. Neighbour with a much less mirthful expression Kevin Pearce (the one on the right of the photo, I know it's hard to tell) called with a perfectly reasonable Ac 4c. Turn: Aspades River: Qd Oh the rollercoaster. Looks like they both make the last level of the day. Tikay has been padding his stack regularly with raises, his latest coup a raise to 1,500 which caused his table to all fold before he flipped over the pretty looking Ad Qd. "If I keep getting hands, I've got to keep raising!" he said, with possibly just a trace of a sneaky undertone of latent intent lacing his normal dulcid tones. Possibly a few cheeky raises might be coming from Tikay's direction in the next few levels and he may be a little more reticent in revealing his hands at that point! Just a guess though! Title: Re: DTD Monthly £300 Freezeout - Day 1 - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on September 07, 2008, 02:49:33 AM Tikay Train Derailed...
Berridge raised with Q-9, and Tikay took a shot with A-J. No good - two pair graces the board. Literally seconds later - it must be the very next hand - and Tikay is circling the table shaking hands, and someone is saying, "Sorry." Uh-oh. OUT. He says, "I thought there was no way I was not going to get to Day Two. Then Richard (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1689) Berridge (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1689) has this accident against Paul (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=324) Garnham (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=324), and then moves in every hand for a whole orbit." Here comes the Q-9 story. "I moved in blind the next hand, and got a blind call - Aspades Qs vs my Ad Td." He took his shot, and missed. Now looking a little shell shocked, he comes to chat with equally railbirding Red-Dog. Title: Re: DTD Monthly £300 Freezeout - Day 1 - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on September 07, 2008, 03:10:39 AM Final Exit of the Day:
Supershort stacked Robert Ballou moved in for his 6,700 over the top of a raiser, who autocalled with Kd Ts. Ballou's Ahrt Qs had a good chance...but instead sent him to the rail as the board four-flushed him out 9s 2d 7d 4d Qd. A final painful moment before play stopped with just four tables remaining.... We will put up the final chip counts as soon as we have them in our greedy little mitts but for now, let me thank you for joining us here at DTD as a typical feast of poker has been served up, replete with all the lovely trimmings we have come to expect. 34 of the initial 106 players are still remaining and they will re-convene to play out to a finish at 3 o clock tomorrow. It should be a cracker and we hope you join us to witness the thrilling denouement of the tournament. Who's your money on? We'll see you then but for now from myself and Ron Jeremy's future co-star Jen Mason, ;stickaforkinme; Bye guys :) Title: Re: DTD Monthly £300 Freezeout - Day 1 - At A Glance Post by: JungleCat03 on September 07, 2008, 06:04:41 AM Ever true to our word, please find the end of day chip counts(thank you DTD for providing us with these.)
