Title: Pokerstars.com EPT London: Day 1A - Interactive
Post by: NoflopsHomer on October 01, 2008, 05:23:18 AM
Welcome to the first day of the sold out EPT London, the city overly blessed with some of the greatest poker players the last couple of weeks, though sadly not blessed with the greatest poker rooms ever. The truth is that today will be an insanely tight squeeze, the Vic's pressroom is smaller than the chance of Junglecat not choosing duck on any menu. This combined with the long walk, plus the news that each media team will, at least at the start, be only allowed one press person in the media room and one on the floor at any time should make this week's reporting a little more of a challenge.

So, the cunningly scheduled event features a guaranteed first prize of £1 million pounds, which, funnily enough the WSOPE doesn't have, as Pokerstars have announced they're adding £250,000 to the prize pool. Plus on the last day, there's a £20,000 high rollers event with a £1 million guaranteed prize pool, why you'd almost think they'd scheduled these events to entice everyone to stay after the WSOPE...

In other news, I have to announce that this will be the last EPT blonde will be covering for this year, rising costs and more events have pretty much priced us out of being able to afford to cover these events. It's a real shame because, the EPT has ostensibly become the premier poker tour in the world over the last year, pretty much increasing its numbers every year while the WPT Bogota dropped percentage-wise from last year. These events are now the ones everyone wants to play and the access is also excellent, it's just a shame blonde can't be at any more this year.

Play is scheduled to start at 1.30pm today. We are in the UK though, so you may want to add several hours.

Finally, look out for October 4th, the day when we discover which reporter is 'King of the Hood'...

Because we've all mostly been working for PokerNews at the WSOPE this last week, it's good to be able to come back to blonde and use headlines that perhaps we wouldn't be allowed to do on other sites.

Witness these possible Chris Ferguson exit titles I never used:

Jesus Nailed
Jesus Dies For His Poker Sins
Christ Crossed Off
Jesus Now Just A Holy Ghost
Jesus Ascends To Railbird Heaven

Junglecat here!

Due to the Vic's insistance on one laptop per media outlet, I will be commandeering Floppy's fine machine from time to time using his log-in.

Yes, we're here at the Vic with the re-assuring sounds of a typical morning on Edgware Road echoing in the background...hurried chatter, constant engines being fired and of course sirens wailing away as the world goes about its business.

For us though, the real business is here. With its sick overlay, historic location and tough field, the London EPT is guaranteed to be a cracker.

There'll be plenty of blondites to follow, not least of which will be Maria Demetriou aka Chili, who stormed to a final table berth and big score in her last big tournament here. We'll be tracking her along with a host of others as day 1a goes someway to deciding who will be The Champ.

So, buckle up, strap in and lock down while we dive headfirst into what should prove an adrenaline-fuelled ride. Enjoy!

JC

To say it's rammed in the Vic, would be an understatement.

The initial provision was for there to be 250 players today and the same tomorrow. They've already added an extra three tables, (soon to be four we think). The list of alternatives is longer than the extended edition of Lord of the Rings and so far includes Dag Martin (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1253) Mikkelsen (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1253), Tom 'Durrr' Dwan and Michael (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=937) Martin (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=937). The latter of these arrived last night and was desperate to play, he hoped if there was enough Germans or Italians he might get in quicker or if there was a table of Finns, they all try and take each other out (of the tournament, not like to the cinema on a date).

It looks like there will at least 600 people in this event, possibly more. It's incredibly hectic in the cardroom so player names etc are just going be so difficult to sort out, please bear with us.

Yes, I caught up with Maria in the early stages and she's more excited than a moth in a cupboard-full of dusty tweed jackets. I made sure she didn't have too much fun at the opening party last night but she told me she had been on best behaviour.

"Bit of champagne, then water, then some vodka, then some water. One more vodka and that was it for me! It was a good idea really as it sent me to sleep; I often get pretty wired before these big events!"

She's clearly extremely hyped up for this and the great result she got the last time she was at the Vic - final tabling the London GUKPT - has given her a lot of confidence today.

She has an interesting table for sure. Three seats to her left is Hendon Mobster Joe (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=204) Beevers (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=204), who is following up a pretty packed schedule at the WSOPE with an appearance here. Neverends!

Also, sat directly to her left, pictured, is Winamax member Anthony (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1787) Roux (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1787), who, although he has yet to post a big live score, has a burgeoning reputation as an excellent player.

The tournament's credibility and strength is only enhanced by the presence of the diminuative, but ferocious and accomplished Norwegian, Annette Obrestad.

I always find Annette a captivating character at the table. On the face of it, she is just a small, quiet young lady, but there is an intangible aura about her, some sort of presence, that magnifies her stature and transforms her at the poker tables from little girl to poker titan.

Nikhil Persaud (don't worry Nik, you can rely on us to spell that right ;) ) has proved himself a consistent and skilled performer, winning score after score on the GUKPT circuit.

He has yet to nail a big one though and a win here would be, well icing on the cake is a massive understatement.

But it would be the icing on the cake.

Jason 'Poochie' Mercier and Pete 'Like a hoodied version of a creature from Pan's Labyrinth' Linton.

These two just actually played a pot, Mercier folding to a bet of several hundred from the Nottingham man who flipped 8c 2s which fitted very well on the 8d 5h 2c Aspades board.

Nearby I was alert to a lot of red chips in the middle between Anthony Roux and a player a couple of seats to his right. The board was reading Kd 5h Jh 2h 8s and the other player moved all-in for 7,600. A healthy overbet considering there was only 4,850 in the pot. Roux decided to muck and preserve the remainder of the stack.

Finally, Dave Colclough is up a couple of thousand having called a sizeable river bet on an A-2-Q-9-x board with a mere Ac 4c, it was good however and the blonde one has had a good start.

Two men who have nothing to prove are Dane, Jesper (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1946) Hougaard (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1946) and Italian maestro Jeffrey Lisandro.

Jesper has had an amazing year, picking up a bracelet in the summer at the WSOP, only to follow that remarkable performance up with another bracelet at this year's WSOPE only a week or so ago.

This feat was record breaking, Jesper the first man to pick up a bracelet on both sides of the atlantic and clearly a man in form, he will tough to stop.

Lisandro hasn't had too shabby a year either. Runner up to Mike (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=671) Matusow (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=671) in the WSOP 2-7 lowball event, he managed a final table at the WSOPE and the Italian is always a tough nut to crack.

Their blind battles could proved fiery...

Ask anyone with a modicum of poker knowhow their opinion of William Thorson and you will get a unanimous response.

The boy's got skillz.

William has made three EPT final tables and amassed almost $2,000,000 in winnings, although remarkably this has been done without ever winning a big tournament. So many deep finishes with no big win to his name as of yet may rankle with William a little and he'll be surely looking to lay that ghost to rest here.

Will the Swede remain the "nearly man" of poker? He deserves to take one down in my opinion.

Homer --

Thanks as usual for the terrific Blonde coverage.  I'm so sad to hear this is the last EPT event you will be covering as I anxiously await my son playing in Europe just for your posts and unique headlines.  Michael Martin just got in and is at table 16, seat 1 so any updates will be greatly appreciated.  When he flew in last night, he had no idea if there would be room or not as he was #105 on the waiting list.  He was happy to get in as an alternate.

You've got to admire the way the floor staff don't give anyone preferential treatment here at the Vic or actually seem to know who anyone is.

One player awaiting to get a seat was asked his name, "Patrik" was the reply.

The Cardroom guy was a little puzzled..."Patrik.....?"

"Antonius."

"Ok, just wait a second then sir and we'll show you to your seat."

Durrr raises to 275 from early position, James Akenhead reraises to 850 next to him and Eric Freiberg calls. Everyone else passes, including Durrr.

2s Ad Ks

Akenhead tosses out a red chip and says, "900." Freiberg calls.

8d

Akenhead has only 2,500 back now and checks. Freiberg sets him in, Akenhead quickly passes.

Early doors, there are plenty of tired faces on show.

Whether it's because of the showcase opening party the EPT always stage before the event where the alcohol flows and the players let their hair down in style or simply because the nature of poker means the early few levels are often a touch humdrum, we are still waiting for the fireworks to go off.

For Pete (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=348) Linton (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=348) however, there has already been an explosive pot.

Pete looked down to find a sweet pair of cowboys in front of him, and loving the raise and call in front of him, he re-popped, only for someone he described as "a solid South African" to make the sollitary call.

The flop fell J-9-9, Pete bet out and was called (the pot was getting big now.)

The turn was a low blank...now meye-ty boi bets out...and Pete calls...

The river was a blank and the action went check, check...

Pete might have been expecting to win this pot, but was sadly mistaken as his opponent turned over a cunningly played pair of Aces!

Pete lost 2/3 of his stack here and was disconsolate as he rushed off to grab a consolatory cigarette. "I nearly passed them on the turn. I mean what's he got?!"

I tried to help by telling him he had Aces, but he was just out of earshot by this stage...

Tony Cascarino, who won the Bolton GUKPT a few weeks ago, has again been putting the ball in the back of the net. He bet 1,000 on the turn and 2,000 on the river of a Ahrt Ks Qd 3d 6h board with A-Q and was paid off by K-Q.

Other players spotted today:

John Phan
Chris Ferguson
Eric Liu
Craig Hopkins
John Kabbaj
Isaac Baron
Gavin Griffin

Dave Colclough is sharing the felt with tiny titan, Freddy Deeb, who was tucking hungrily into a sandwich as I joined his table. He had time to bet out 600 on the turn of a #9c #2h #6c #2s board though, his neighbours passing, before he turned away to take another bite.

Deeb up to 20,000. Easy game this!

The EPT has really grown in stature since its inception. At first, it was really only an attractive proposition to the creme de la creme of europe, but its reputation has blossomed to the extent that now, the World's elite are attracted by the allure of the tournaments.

This makes for some exciting mixes of European and World stars.

One table that has a good flavour of both is Table Antonius, the Finnish star the most celebrated player at the felt.

He won't find it too easy going though, with recent GUKPT Luton winner Sam Trickett, perennial UK circuit player and fierce competitor Jim Reid and David Benyamine's better half Erica Schoenburg joining him at the table.

So far Sam and Erica have close to their starting stacks, but Jim is doing well with 13,000 or so to his name. Meanwhile Patrik has not had the auspicious start you might expect and is languishing behind these three with just 7,000 to his name at present.

Some other random names and counts...

Jeff Kimber - 20,000  (Go Jeff!)
David Benyamine - 8,500 (Try and keep up with the missus David!)
Beth Shak - 9,800.

Incidentally with beautiful women like Beth and Erica playing, you can rest assured I will be snapping them at some point. At present though we are reduced to one camera between us and Floppy has temporary control, though the battle is far from over!

Fear not, norkage fans. Totty coming soon!

Sam just bet 200 on a 4h 4c Jc flop which Erica flatted. On the turn 6s, Sam check/called a 400 bet and then a 1,000 bet on the Ac river. Erica flipping 9s 4s as Sam grudgingly mucked. Meanwhile James Akenhead has doubled up meagre stack with Ahrt Kc against Durrr's 8s 3s which was trying to squeeze a raise and call.

On the subject of pretty ladies, here we have Beth Shak adding a touch of glamour to her table. Beth has employed one of the most feared poker moves during the early levels to boost her stack up to the lofty regions of 20,000. That move is known as "The Shak Attack!"

Due to this, and the fact she is easy on the eye, she deserves to be snapped and thus she has been.

Sadly the Vic is crammed close to capacity at the moment, meaning taking a good shot involves wading through a vibrating scrum of Italian reporters, waitresses and poker players rushing for a cigarette. That's before you have to contend with the railbirds...

Getting a good vantage point can prove a challenge so please excuse any blurriness. It's Snoopy's fault.

The Hendon Mob Fortunes

Diverse I think you might say.

First off, there's Barny, having a whale of a time, with plenty of chips - close to 20,000.

He was heard warning his table partner to "be careful" as I took this picture, not so much in a "godfather you'll sleep with the fishes" way, more in a "haha, we're having a laugh at the table huh? Or are we?" undertone-of-menace type way.

He is doing a lot better than his brother or other mobster Joe Beevers, both of whom have perished at this early point.

Also gone is James Akenhead, so close to winning a bracelet in the summer, he'll have to put any thoughts of following that up with an EPT success on ice for now.

Speaking of Beyamine, and in no way an attempt to just add the Erica Schoenberg photos to another page, the high stakes Frenchman has just eliminated another player after flat-calling an initial raise with kings, only for the small blind to squeeze with 6d 3d.

His finishing manouevre is called "Le Baguette" and involves him smearing his opponent with butter and melted brie before bodyslamming him onto an enormous piece of bread, which he folds over him before getting the pin.

James Akenhead is out after raising from the cutoff with Q-Q, calling the donk lead from the blind on a A-7-6 board. The turn was a Q and James again flat-calling before his opponent shoved the 8 river. James called but had walked into the miracle gutshot that his opponent had hit with T-9.

Meanwhile Tony Cascarino is continuing his good run of form, he raised to 600, Mark Teltscher reraised to 1,700 and then the small blind made it 3,600 with about 4,000 behind. Cascarino moved in and Teltscher huffed and puffed and threw his hand away, Cascarino revealing Ac Ad against his opponents Qd Qc and winning after a blank bricky board.

Teltscher in his typically fast staccatto voice, "I folded kings, what else can he [Cascarino] have? Aces or kings, he folds queens."

Here's a report on a player that will satisfy both the norkage hungry amongst you and those who are more focused on the serious business of who will ultimately prevail in this EPT.

I give you Vicky (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=449) Coren (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=449), a lady who seems to never age, looking lovely as always, with a rather meaty looking stack of 32,000.

As I took the picture, an interesting hand played out between Vicky and one of her tablemates.

100/200, Vicky raised it up to 600 from early position and was called by a player in the cut-off.

The flop fell Kc 3c 3d and Vicky led for 1,200, only for the button to call...

Vicky looked puzzled at this, saying "You can't have a three? I guess you're on a flush draw then!"

The turn fell the Th and Vicky quickly tapped the table to check, checked behind.

"No club on the river please" Vicky implored the dealer who spectacularly failed to oblige, delivering the 5c in spite of Vicky's heartfelt request. "I didn't ask for much did I?" said Vicky before checking and watching the cut-off curiously.

He checked also and Vicky announced "two pair" showing pocket eights, only for the late position player to reveal a superior pair of knaves in the hole.

"Well played" commented Vicky, hitting the table to confirm this.

Still on 30k+ though, she will be a danger to collect her 2nd EPT title if she continues accumulating chips as adroitly as she has thusfar.

"Well played sir!"

The following players are now pushing up daisies in the Busto Graveyard:

Anthony Roux
William Thorson
Tom 'Durrr' Dwan
Sam Trickett

Sam's exit was particularly galling, he reraised preflop with K-K and saw an Q-J-J, getting it in only to discover his opponent had call him with A-J

Michael Martin is up to around 25k after, in his own words, "winning lots of small and medium pots" including a couple from Gavin Griffin.

It's not exactly filled with light in the Vic but some people still feel the need to wear shades.

Here we have Nicholas Levi, circa 8,000 chips, realising the light is just too much and throwing on the shades.

As I took the consecutive pictures, Nicholas (who thank god has his hat back on*) told me "that will make a nice little story!"

So here is the story of Levi and his shades...

Pete Linton is on the felt fumes of the shrapnel of the coppers after getting all-in with aces on a Jd 5h 4s against Alan Vinson's 5d 5c which held on the 7h turn and Kc river.

Meanwhile Joe 'BigEgypt' Elpayaa successfully check/raised a 5s 5d 4d flop before attempting to commit his opponent with a 4,900 on the-not-scary-at-all 6d turn to elicit a fold from his opponent.

Early indications indicate that there's a indicative indication that Arnaud Mattern is the chip leader with 46k.

Going along slowly but surely is Michael Greco.

He cashed at the EPT Barcelona where he waited patiently for his opportunities which eventually came his way and it looks like a similar strat is in operation today.

And Mr Levi, new hat complete with Winamax logo and all, is flying along now, compared to his previous shortstack...up to 15,000 and able to play a little more poker at this point.

Chili is out, betting the 1,100 Ad 7h Js flop, getting the call from the big blind.

On the turn 4s, she moved in for around 4,000 and was quickly called by her opponent's Ac 7c. Maria could only flip 6h 5h and needed to catch her straight but missed on the Tc river.

She joined the other two members of Team Busto Notts at the bar...

Ok guys, we're on a dinner break but here's some random counts from the felt...

Gus Hansen, last seen folding  a Qh Ks Tc 3d 5c board to a 4k river bet - 17k.

Wake up Gus!

Ian "The Raiser" Frazer - 31,000. Very nice.

Jason Mercier - 12,000 - ZIP!

Even before I got back down to the press room to report on his 12,000 stack, he had busted. Although Jason has had a lightning start to his poker career, his form eluded him today and we lose Poochie/ Jason from the tournament.

The immensely talented young American will be back soon though.

Gavin Griffin seems to be every pot on his table, he called bets on the flop, turn and river of a 2-5-T-6-x board with 6-4o against his opponent who could only show a missed A-K, propelling Gavin towards the top of the leaderboard. Soon after though, he was at it again firing 1,500 on a 4c Jh 8h board, this time he was check/raised to 4,600 and gave up the pot very quickly. He's still on about 64,000 though.

Girl On Girl Action!

Not just posted for the tittilation, this was a key pot between Annette Obrestad and Team Pokerstars sponsored Vanessa Rousso...

I joined the hand on the flop of a T-3-3 board.

Annette had bet out 2,600  from late position, flatted by the small blind and check raised by Vanessa Rousso from the small blind to 6,000.

Annette went deep into thought before picking up her entire stack and pushing it over the line, approximately 30k more! Wow!

The small blind somehow managed to tank for a minute before passing and Rousso insta-called!

With a $55,000 pot brewing, they flipped their cards.

Vanessa had 3-2 for trip threes, while Annette showed down 3-6 for better trips, though a split was by far the most likely outcome.

The turn came a DEUCE! Sick card, putting Rousso in the lead.

Here was Annette's reaction.

Needing to now spike a 6 or T to salvage the pot, neither arrived on the blank turn and river, meaning Vanessa Rousso moves up into what is likely to be the chip lead, whilst Annette looked forlorn and crippled, down to a few thousand chips. Rousso delivered what sounded like a sincere apology to Annette but I don't think the Norwegian could hear it as she stacked up her remaining handful of chips in her sealed world of pain and misery.

Horrible luck for the Norwegian, who would have been a massive danger if she could have won that crucial pot. As it is though, it's Rousso who now holds a dominant stack.

Skalie-wagged!

Sadly for Bev Pace and any other followers of last year's WSOP Main Event finalist, Jon "Skalie" Kalmar is OUT!

I caught up with him shortly after he's busted and he had this to say...

"I'm toast. I got short and went for it with A-8, only to run into A-T...I can't buy a hand at the moment. I'm off to the bar to have a few drinks!"

Good game sir...

Any chance of a chip update on Craig 'Apple' Hopkins

Nice work as usual

Afraid he's gone, 'The Apple' pushed for 4,800 during the 200/400 level with A-K and was called by the big blind (only playing 6k himself) with Ahrt 7h which spiked a seven in call that might be described as rotten to the core...

Jon 'Skalie' Kalmar is also presumed out, he was spotted sinking a pint at the bar.

Despite the frequent flowing of casualties, we've already lost around 2/3's of the field due to what Canadian Martin Derbyshire says is "Eurodonkery" there will still be one more level, this got a roll of the eyes from some, including Michael Martin who probably is feeling a little jet-lagged (he has 60k atm, he'll be fine!). I think though that those in charge have got it right playing it out tonight since we won't know how many are coming tomorrow. Rather have the short nights later this week than tonight I think is the plan.

Brandon Cantu, who always seems to amass a big stack in tournaments, has a face like a smacked bum after his A-K was outdrawn by A-T for a 30k pot. I didn't see where the money went in, but Cantu wasn't looking too happy, though he still has another 30k left.

David Benyamine had about 8,000 about half an hour ago. He now has around 50,000. I hadn't seen the earlier double up but on the turn of a Jc 9h 7s 9s Benyamine check/raised his opponent's 2,000 bet to 6,500. The button thought for a good minute before setting Benyamine in, to which the Frenchman called instantly. Benyamine flipped Td 8h for the flopped nuts while his opponent showed the not entirely drawing dead just yet Tc 9d. But the river was a blank 6s and Benyamine was found to just have his opponent covered, consequently busting him.

Despite the frequent flowing of casualties, we've already lost around 2/3's of the field due to what Canadian Martin Derbyshire says is "Eurodonkery" there will still be one more level, this got a roll of the eyes from some, including Michael (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=937) Martin (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=937) who probably is feeling a little jet-lagged (he has 60k atm, he'll be fine!). I think though that those in charge have got it right playing it out tonight since we won't know how many are coming tomorrow. Rather have the short nights later this week than tonight I think is the plan.

I'm loving that 60K stack!!!!  Thanks for the update.

I was watching Jim Reid's table, getting a few counts, when Jim raised it up on the button to 3k or so...

The blinds both folded, and it looked like Jim went to muck his cards, only for them to flip over and reveal J-6 offsuit...

OOPS!

Anyway he had a bit of a laugh over it with neighbour Kathy Liebert. When I asked him if he meant to flip them over, he said "Yes. Of course!" I think he might have been bluffing though...

Here he is giggling away like a naughty schoolboy as he sweeps up the blinds.

David Benyamine has watched his missus go busto and to be honest he wasn't far off it himself not so long ago, but as Homer pointed out, he has spun it back up to 50,000.

Time to chill now....

Ian Frazer was just seen raking in a big pot.

I didn't see the action preflop but he seemed to have got a bit funky from middle position with Q-9 and with a Q and 9 on the flop had got someone to give him their chips. Good job Ian! Up to 45,000.

Apologies for claiming Jason Mercier was busted earlier. He isn't.

He doesn't have loads of chips but with around 16,000, he is still in contention and continuing his policy of stacking his chips in symmetrical form...

Jeff Kimber is short with only 10,000 or so, but he needn't worry as he has a guardian angel on his shoulder to guide him to poker heaven!

Beth Shak has been steady if unspectacular at the tables today. I managed to snap her, although judging by the sultry glance she gave me, I was being a distraction so moved swiftly along. Keep up the Shak Attack, Beth!

And I moved along to Priyan Demel. Perhaps overdue a result in a big tournament, this may be the one, Priyan with 50,000 at the moment, which will have him in the upper echelons of the leaderboard.

Well played sir!

Could u check on Justin "truesyalose " Truesdell please? He is wearing a blue cap with a K on it. ty

I'm afraid I can't see him anywhere, though I do remember a young guy wearing a blue hat on sideways earlier being knocked out. If this sounds like him, then I'm afraid he went out about an hour ago or so.

Jason Mercier really is out now, Nicolas Levi's short stack push with 4-3 was called by Mercier's equally short A-6. A 4 came out first card and Levi has 20k and a little smile now.

Not smiling so much is Michael 'Don't Call Me Beppe' Greco who committed himself with a raise for half his stack on a 5h 7s 5s board after Vanessa Rousso had led out. Liya Gerasimov set Greco in and Rousso got out of the way.

Greco: Aspades Ts
Gerasimov: Erm...5c Th

No spade for the Grecster, he's outta here!

Here is our chip leader, Carter Gill.

Carter is a regular motormouth, filling every spare moment at the table with chatter.

I was informed by a follically challenged colleague in the press room that he was much the same during the recent APT tour, where he finished just short of the final table berths but got himself into contention through some aggressive play, matched by equally aggressive tabletalk.

Here he is with his giant 100,000 ish stack. Now that's a whopper!

As we approach the last few moments of the night, here's a shot oozing menace.

First we have Nicholas Levi, somewhat tired perhaps in a day which has been quite a grind. He had 16,000 just before the level end, which will mean he'll be looking for an early double through tomorrow...

But notice the menacing looking Arnaud Mattern lurking in the lower background.

The villainous look on his face seems to be saying "I am ze only Frenchman allowed in zis photo!!"

Finally, to complete the ominous tone of the shot, we have Davood Mehrmand, the slightly wacky (now that's diplomacy) German player giving veritable daggers to someone just off camera. I wouldn't want to be in their shoes!

Feel free to fill in your own captions!

Thanks very much for following the tournament progress.

We'll throw up the official chip counts as soon as PokerStars send them to us, but for now  ;stickaforkinme; because myself and Mr Homer are done!

Bye guys ;)

Hi guys

I'm glad to read that the best French chances of winning are still in (Mattern, Bennyamin, Perrault)

But

I'm sad to read that it will be the last EPT you'll cover... (but i can understand your reason... quite good :)up)

(you can note the little versification I succeed to do  ;yippee;)

Thanks for those pages.
