And we're off with Carter Gill moving all-in from the button in the first hand and Max Pescatori thinking from the big blind, before electing to call the 37.5k shove.

Gill: Ac Qs
Pescatori: Ahrt 8s

7d 3s 5h ("Put a six out there for a sweat!" shouts Gill) 2c Kc

Gill doubles up to about 80k, Pescatori knocked down just under 250k.

Scotty Nguyen is out, as you might have guessed if watching the live feed. 7-7 no good vs Q-Q on a T-A-8-9-2 board.

Alan Smurfit doubles up with A-K against Johannes Strassman's A-9 when the board comes 8-K-A-6-Q on the feature table.

Beth Shak has fallen in the early stages which we are most upset about, especially as her exit occurred during the 4 mile hike between press room and card room.

Here she is giving her post knockout interview to Kara (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1326) Scott (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1326), looking somewhat blurred due to our inability to use flash in the card room...

One elimination we did witness though involved Tyler (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=2150) Reiman (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=2150) shoving with K-J, only to run into Pescatori's A-Q and a queen high flop sent the young American to the rail while Pescatori banged his fist on the table in jubilation, another victim forced to walk the plank at the hands of the Italian pirate...

Big pot for blonde's favourite Michael (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=937) Martin (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=937), Michael (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=937) Martin (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=937). I couldn't exactly see how the betting went preflop but he was all-in on a 5d 4d 4s flop with Js Jh against Huseyin Yilmaz's 7d 7c and held on the Kh turn and 8s river. Michael (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=937) Martin (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=937) is up to over 500k probably the chip leader at this point.

A three way pot between the Frenchies David (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=518) Benyamine (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=518), Anthony Lellouche and Alexia (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1613) Portal (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1613) ends in a chop when they all check the 4d Qs Qc 6c 6s board to the river and split it with Ac Jc, Ahrt 8d and Ad 9d respectively.

Erik Sjodin raises to 14k and Frode Gjesdal makes the call from the big blind.

9c 3s 8d

Gjesdal checks, Sjodin bets 18k and Gjesdal raises to 42k with about 60k back. Sjodin thinks for about a minute before setting his opponent in.

Gjesdal folds and is now very short.

(Not as short as Junglecat though, ho ho ho).

Michael Martin is really destroying his table, having knocked out Ramin Henke, he's just busted Sorrel Mizzi also with 7-7 vs Mizzi's K-Q.

Ian "The Raiser" Frazer has perished and his exit extinguishes any hopes of a UK champion at the London EPT.

It was apparently at the hands of Michael Martin, who has run rampant in these early stages. He raised it up on the button, only for Ian to find an ace in the big blind and ship it over the top.

Martin though had Ian's A-3 wrapped up with A-T and when he called, it was all over bar the music, which started playing as the board blanked out to knock Ian out.

Martin's ridiculous run today has seen him move to over 800k. With only 6 million chips in play, that is a mega stack right now...

Joao Barbosa has been knocked out with 4h 4d against Max Pescatori's Tc Td on a Ahrt Qs 8d Qd Ks board.

Meanwhile, the chip leader today started with around 477k today, Martin has almost double this within 90 minutes having eliminated Gunnar Rabe, Ian Frazer, Sorrel Mizzi, and Raiman Henke. Busy day.

A jealous Eric Liu (c. 500k) comes up as we break to three tables saying, "How do you always have so much man? It's so sick!"

Looks like Justin Truesdell has been knocked out, I think by Jonas Molander.

Here's a shot of the man who has taken this tournament by the scruff of the neck, Michael Martin.

And yes Justin Truesdell is OUT!

Here he is as he grabs his coat ready to go. I missed his exit hand but he told me briefly as he left, "At least I made a good call..." suggesting he was perhaps unlucky to find himself on the rail.

Raise from Joseph Elpayaa to 21k, Johannes Strassman reraises to 61k. Alan Smurfit moves all-in for 120k. Strassman is forced to call after Elpayaa passes even though he though he doesn't like it.

Strassman: Ts Td
Smurfit (and his bracelet): Ahrt Ac

Qc Jh 7c 6s 3s

Smurfit is now over 300k.

Carter Gill is out, and not happy.

Lellouche raised and Carter Gill reraised preflop with the Frenchman calling.

K-Q-3

Gill pushes with A-Q and Lellocuhe snap-calls with K-Q, the board bricks and Gill is out.

Carter flips out, "Nice f**king preflop call, you f**king idiot... "You're a f**king asshole." He then departs from the slightly bemused table.

The play thusfar has been superaggressive as it has been all tournament so it was no surprise when Huseyin Yilmaz just went to war with Max Pescatori with K-Q versus pocket eights.

A Queen on the flop looked to have sealed Max's fate and the Pirate was just about to walk the plank when he spiked an eight on the river, leaving a frustrated Yilmaz rubbing his hands together angrily whilst an apologetic and sympathetic looking bearded Italian Pirate collected his booty.

Max up to 300k now. Yilmaz down to dust...

He may have been knocked out much earlier in the tournament, but that hasn't stopped Humberto Brenes swanning around like he owns the joint, jumping in with advice whenever there's a table disagreement and passing information to the watching rail to the amazement of the watching poker organisers.

He's only one step away from opening his arms and doing his famous shark eating motion. I only hope we have the camera trained on him when that happens!

HUMBERRRRTOOOOOOOOO!

Eric Liu is also one of the men looking like he has the game to take down this EPT.

He was just seen betting 230k into a 260k pot on the river of a 9d Ts Qh 2h Ks board and Dane Peter Eastgate, November Nine member, was forced into a very tough decision for his tournament life.

Eventually he folded to leave the aggressive Liu, who also had a deep run in the Monte Carlo EPT, to take the pot, moving up to 684k...

Swede Jonas Molander, who followed up a deep run in the Barcelona EPT with another good run here has busted and we are sorry to report the final lady left in the competition, pretty French actress, Alexia Portal has departed as well...

Chris has more information...

Huseyin Yilmaz is out though not before a double up with 7s 4h against Jonas Molander's Kd 6d

Jh 5s 4d....3d (A better card in the deck can't be found surely that isn't a King or Six?) 4c.

It wasn't enough though, and Yilmaz was out soon after.

Jonas Molander followed him shortly, when his A-5 was defeated by Max Pescatori's A-6 on a 7-4-J-3-J board.

Last lady standing, Alexia Portal is also out, moving all-in over the top of Peter Busch's raise with pocket sevens against his A-Q but the board came 3s 3d Ks 2h Qs meaning she left to much applause.

eric lui just doubled up a short stack on feature table with Lui raising up in position with  Ahrt 5d and being reraised all in for little more with  Qc Kh with the magic  Kd on river doubling 1 of the short stacks on river

Swede Michael Tureniec was the player to double up which delighted Pokerstars Swedish blogger Lina.

The whirlwind play continues!

It really has been a firestorm out there in the playing arena with players not giving each other an inch, engaging in combat almost every hand!

The latest exciting showdown was caused when Eric Liu raised it up, only for Swede Michael Tureniec to decide enough was enough, re-raising him all-in, without much fold equity given his shortstack, with K-Q.

Liu was forced to call with A-5, no doubt delighted to be ahead and it looked like another elimination was on the cards.

The flop fell 6h 6s Jd 7d and Tureniec was about to leave when the Ks spiked on the river, causing a broad smile to understandably break out across his face. The Swede up to 160k and the first minor setback for Eric on a day where everything else has pretty much gone his way...

Also out is Brian Green, another victim of the rampaging Pescatori.

The Pirate called Brian's shove with A-6 with pocket Jacks and with no sign of a bullet anywhere on the flop, Max had taken yet another scalp to leave us 18 handed in record time!

I don't know what the players had for breakfast but they're playing faster than a cross between Speedy Gonzalez and Floppy when he sees an unattended hamburger...

Arriba, arriba!

November ME finalist Peter Eastgate is out, it looked like Michael Martin had button-raised with queens and Eastgate had repushed with K-6 and was unable to spike the vital king on the Ahrt Tc 6d 5c 2d board. On the plus side, he gets a bustout interview with Kara Scott, like Jonas Molander here.

eric lui raises with  8c 8s with Swede Michael Tureniec moving all in over the top for 120k and lui calling  Ks Jc

Js 3d Kh Kd Tc board takes the swede to 336,000 in chips

Thanks!

Yes indeed. Liu looked a bit frustrated after this hand, having had the Swede in twice, once ahead and once in a flip he lost them both and now looks like he has less than 500k, although Floppy insists he has over 500k.

His argument, consisting of "look at his stack! He has lots of the yellows!", is far from convincing though...

Meanwhile on my last epic trip from the media room to the poker room, I spotted a very lost-looking Barry Greenstein who had been commentating but couldn't seemingly find his way back into the real world. Eventually with much needed guidance we got Barry back to the casino, who knows he might have been stuck there for days otherwise...

Just as a quick aside, I feel obliged to fill you in on the apparel my esteemed colleague Chris "NoFlopsHomer" Hall is attired in today...

To cut a long story short, he became involved in a bet with another blogger Owen Laukkanen, as to who could purchase the most garish hoody. So far Chris seems to be well in the lead, and possibly out of sight, with this splendid effort.

Already the hoody, which is covered with a pattern of jewels, has been attracting all kinds of attention. Only a few moments ago Chris could be heard giggling and saying "Stop it" as one of the male French press caressed it delicately.

Here it is. ENJOY!

Michael Tureniec has proved a thorn in the side of Eric Liu today, taking plenty of chips off him and he just took some more...Eric raising it up to 22k, only to find the Swede raising him another 55k.

Liu looked at him with a wry smile, but couldn't find a call so laid it down, enabling Tureniec to continue the pwnage...

Johannes Strassman has been knocked about from pillar to post today.

His fell down the leaderboard has been extreme...coming in as one of the big stacks with 442k, he was moments ago pushing all-in for his last 94k just to pick up the blinds. He managed to persuade Marcin Horecki to fold though and pads his stack to over 100k, even if it is still a shadow of its former self...

What Can Liu Do?

After an amazing start to the day, Eric Liu is in freefall at the moment and the sole architect of this is his nemesis, Michael Tureniec!

Yet another hand of pwnage occurred when Tureniec popped it up to 26k, getting called by Philippe D'Auteuil in middle position. Eric Liu now swung the hammer hard, re-popping it another 57k.

If he thought this would persuade the Swede to lay his hand down though, he couldn't have been more wrong as Tureniec announced "ALL-IN!" and pushed his stack over the line.

Eric instantly mucked, suggesting he had just been pulling off a squeeze move without a hand and once again he was bested by his Swedish foe. He must be getting sick of him by now!

Christopher Wolters has been on life support for some time now and he made his move with the pretty looking Kh Qh, only to run headfirst into Marcin Horecki's big slick, Aspades Kd.

His tournament life on the line, the Canadian Wolters was looking dead in the water going ot the flop.

The flop fell 5h 4h 5d though, a great flop for Wolters, giving him some flush outs to get out of the hole...

The turn Qc was met with a sigh from Horecki as he saw the pot beginning to go the wrong way...

"All Horecki needs is a King on the river that's not a heart!" was John Duthie's excited, but a tad inaccurate commentary at this point, proven as the Ks fell on the river, but with two pair Queens and Kings Wolters had completed the outdraw to double through to 160k+ whilst a rueful looking Horecki was now left short, crippled and in big trouble...

Needing a double up, Horecki went for the throat with 6s 7s, only for his nemesis Wolters to make the call with Jc Jh and it looked like he was about to deliver the deathblow to Horecki over the span of just a few hands.

The flop fell an interesting 3s 5c Kc to give the Pole some hope in the form of a gutshot. The turn was a very interesting 8s, adding a flush draw to his chances, as well as converting his gutshot straight draw to an open ended...

"What is going on at this table!" a bemused Wolters pondered outloud...

The river was the 4s ! Both the straight and the flush draw hit, meaning Horecki had his revenge and the Pole, though still short, is back in the game at least temporarily...

Here is a large cooler:

Here is a hand that could be equally considered a large cooler.

Max (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=660) Pescatori (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=660) raises preflop and Michael (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=937) Martin (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=937) calls.

Aspades Jh Kc

Max bets 52k and after a think for a minute, Martin calls.

9d

Max bets 60k, Martin either sets Max all-in or raises and Max moves all-in, it doesn't matter so much as all the chips go in and Max flips Kh Kd for a set, but Martin turns over Ad Ac!!!! Max can't believe it and throws his glasses into the middle next to his chips as the 5h river is peeled off. Max (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=660) Pescatori (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=660) is out in 15th place. Michael (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=937) Martin (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=937) has around 1.4 million chips, which is almost 25% of those in play.

"Good internet players always have a monster hand when they cold-call a raise," observes Ramzi (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=714) Jelassi (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=714).

Earlier we lost Joe Elpayaa who moved in with Jd Tc over the top of a button raise from Sjordin who called with Ac Js, the board coming Ad Qd 7d (some outs) 9c (3 more) 3c.

Pot after pot after pot!

Wolters seems to be at the epicenter of everything at the moment.

The latest large pot played out involved David Benyamine and Christopher Wolters.

Alan Smurfit was also involved preflop and the three players went to the flop which fell Ten high. There was some action, which was enough to get Smurfit to bail out of the hand but Benyamine and Wolters went to the turn at which point the rest of Wolters now shrivelled stack went into the middle and Benyamine gave him action.

With 9-9 Benyamine might have thought he was good, although the sick expression on the large Frenchman's face said it all as Wolters showed T-J, which was good for a 250,000 pot!

Benyamine was knocked back to 220,000 though...

Alan Smurfit raises it up and is given a spin by Frode Gjesdal of Norway.

He checks the Qs Th 5c flop, only for Frode to bet out a half pot bet...

Smurfit now shoved his 500k ish stack into the middle with shaking hands, but Frode wasn't interesed in continuing following this large check raise from Smurfit and threw his hand away.

The Irishman is now handily placed...

Marcin Horecki has used his short stack well, shoving and re-shoving plenty of times to pick up enough blinds and enough folded raises that he is starting to get back into contention a little with 270k or so...

Also on the up from earlier is Johannes Strassman. Following a nightmare start to the day with 75% of his stack gone by dinner, Johannes has managed to work his way back into things and has 300k or so at the moment...

Eric Liu just played out a big pot with Gualter Salles, the Brazilian ex-Indy Car driver.

Eric raised it up, only for Salles to push over the top for another 100k or so...

Getting 2-1, Liu called with A-J, only to find himself dominated by the Brazilian's pocket Jacks.

Needing a bullet, or other strange combination of cards to outdraw Salles, Liu finally started to turn round his spell of bad fortune as he hit the flop of 4s Ac 9s hard...

As the turn and river blanked in the form of the Kh and 2c, the unfortunate Salles was sent to the rail with a 20k cheque as consolation...

Antony Lellouche raises to 42k from the small blind and Busch calls from the big blind.

Qc Ks 5c

Lellouche checks, Busch bets 57k and Lellouche reraises to 150k. Busch thinks for a moment then callls.

7c

Check check.

3d

Check check.

Lellouche declares, "Small pair." Busch shows Kc Js and rakes in almost 400k in chips.

The Suck, Re-Suck

Canadian Christopher Wolters shoved his 10 Big blinds in preflop, only to run into Liu with a hand!

Wolters had been trying to steal the blinds with A-2, but Liu had him in trouble with his pocket Kings.

Liu had spiked a bullet to outdraw Salles Jacks previously but the tables were turned as an exciting A-J-T flop popped out, threatening a suck-out in Wolters favour but giving Liu a few outs for the re-suck.

The press and rail gasped as the dealer dealt the dramatic turn...which was a King!

So trips for Liu as the pendulum swung his way in a classic suck/resuck scenario...

With various shouts heard from the crowd of "Queen!" (for a split) "King!" (for quads) and randomly "MAKE IT THE 2 of SPADES!" from some crazy guy, the river was the 6d, meaning Liu took the pot and Wolters was busted in 13th spot...

12 remain as the heat rises and the final table approaches...

Benyamine Busto!

raise pre with AKo, called from blinds by benyamine with  Qc Tc flop comes  9c 9d 2c and check shoves all in for 200k and eventually called by  Ac Ks and 2 bricks come down with  Ahrt on river to put benyamine out and a nice 600,000 pot for Turning

p.s This was turning's 1st hand on the feature table....

nice one to walk into

Beat me to it again Taz!

That was a great call from Michael Tureniec, the Swede has ridden his luck, but made some great moves today and he correctly identified Benyamine was on a flush draw there.

It's still a flip of course, but with the dead money in the pot, that was a nice call...

David Benyamine OUT in 12th place, leaving 11 left. They will be playing to a final table of EIGHT players tonight before coming back to duke it out on the final tomorrow...

Frode Gjesdal, who Henning Granstad tells us, is one of the original old school Norwegian players with Jan Sjavik (who is coincindentally playing in the DTD £300 in the Snoopy-based thread), raises to 44k and gets no callers taking the blinds.

Eric Liu gets a walk.

It's very cagey here on the feature table, when they're so close to the big money.

Raise to 42k from Eric 'Peachy_Keen' Liu, Frode Gjesdal ships it all in for 323k, Liu mucks and decides to wait for a better spot.

Antony (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=903) Lellouche (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=903) has doubled up raising preflop with Kd Qd and Peter Busch reraising from the button, Lellouche bet a 7s Kh Ks flop, Peter Busch moved in with Js 5s and Lellouche quickly called.

The Qs turn made Busch's flush but made Lellouche a house at the same time so the 2s river didn't matter.

Busch was knocked out soon after with K-Q into A-9 and we have 10 players left.

And we are down to one table!

Not the final table as such as the final will begin once we are 8 handed but with just 9 competitors left nursing hopes of EPT glory, the players are going to be re-shuffled into a single table with one more elimination to bring the day to a halt...

This hand precipitated the re-draw...

Norwegian Frode Gjesdal made a big raise preflop, only to see fellow Scandinavian, Swede Michael Tureniec shipping it over the top of him. He had put in half his stack, so couldn't really fold and made the call with 6-6, Michael turning up Aspades 9s.

The flop was disastrous for Gjesdal, coming out Ts 2s 7d to give Michael overs and a flush draw...

Bad as the flop was, it just got worse for the Norwegian on the turn, the 4s spiking to give the jubilant Swede the nut flush and leave Gjesdal drawing thinner than Patrick Stewart's hair...

The Norwegian crashes out in 10th spot, and with the organisers rushing around to make everything rosy for the multitude of cameras that will be trained on the "October Nine", we are on a short, temporary break.

Back shortly!

There's a little bit of caginess afflicting the players, who understandably don't want to miss out on the final table berths.

Such cautious play has not afflicted Johannes Strassman and Anthony Lellouche though, the two going to war preflop.

Strassman popped it up, only for Lellouche to put in a decent re-raise and pressurise the German player.

Whether Strassman didn't beleive the French players' raise, or had a blockbuster hand, we'll never know, but he shoved all-in for another 360k and Lellouche made a pretty quick pass...

Strassman has been a classic variance junky today going from 450k down to 90k up to his present stack of 600k or so.

The German's pedigree and increasing stack means he will be a big threat to win this tournament, especially if he shows the courage and abililty that has been his hallmark in their tournament so far...

They also check the 8h on the turn, before Lellouche bets 70k on the river 6d, Martin makes a reluctant call. Lellouche showed a very slowly played Ahrt Qh to win a small pot.

Alan Smurfit raises it up under the gun to 50k.

Based on the Irish player's extremely tight play, the commentators joke about his range being Aces+

But then!

Swede Erik Sjodin moves allin for anohter 182k!

Surely Smurfit will call and we will have a showdown to decide who will finish ninth!

Alan fiddles with his glasses and looks uncomfortable, which doesn't bode well for a call and indeed he eventually passes, perhaps thinking his pocket Kings just couldn't cut the mustard...

Blinds are now 15k/30k with a 3k ante which is a bit odd as I'm sure last year we had a 12k/24k level...Oh well. Officially the structure only goes up to 25k/50k, though I'm sure we'll be going to higher than that tomorrow.

Shortstacked Eric Sjoden ships it in and...he's called!

Eric (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=2403) Liu (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=2403) makes the call, unsurprisingly as he had been dealt those pocket cowboys, Kd Kc.

In dominant shape then versus Sjoden's Ad Js, all Liu had to do was to fade an Ace and we would have our final table...

The board came out a raggedy 6c 3s 5c and the light was fading on Sjoden's tournament hopes.

The turn Th and river Jd finally extinguished all his hope, giving Liu a chunky 500k+ pot to elevate him into 2nd place, but Liu is OUT, eliminated in 9th, winning £50,574...

He shakes hands with the table, gets a consolatory hug from his executioner Liu, and departs to applause...

That elimination means we have our final eight, Homer is just posting up the chip counts.

 Hold onto your hats people!
