Title: DTD Monthly Freezeout Day 1 - Interactive
Post by: snoopy1239 on October 04, 2008, 05:10:19 PM
Hello, and welcome once again to Nottingham, the home of Robin Hood, Brian Clough, gun crime and, most importantly, Dusk Till Dawn Poker Club. As always, blonde are here once again to cover the '3' in 3-2-1 and transfer all the joys of the felt onto your computer screen. I'm sure all the familiar names will be present and correct - Dave Smith, Nick Hicks, Chris Bruce, Richard Berridge, Phil Clarke - but one face that won't be listed down as a regular is our mystery updater. Debuting in the world of updating, our mystery updater is sure to bedazzle you with a sea of wit, charm and eloquence as he/she waltzes round the table with note pad in hand and a twinkle in his/her eye. But who is this mystery person and is it a conventional choice? As Rolf Harris would say, 'can you tell what it is yet?'...

Yes, this is the monthly £300 freezeout. Are you playing, or do you know anyone who is?

Hmm. Now that you've asked, I'm not 100% sure. It's been a while since I played it myself. I think it may be 8,000 chips with a 45 minute clock, but again, I'm far from certain.

Can anyone confirm?

Evening all.

Making my debut tonight I shall endeavour to please as best I can. I am Laptopless so therefore relying on DTD lappy.

So far we have reached 83 runners , so I think that means the guarenteed money has been reached, with a few stilll at the cash desk buying in.

Very busy week on the poker calender so we shall wait in anticipation on the final count.

Okay, okay, the game's up. Through the medium of Tank's incredible guesswork, we can conclude that today's debuting starlet is none other than 'The Nun' Maureen (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=275) McDonnell (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=275). And here she is, looking as angelic as her moniker suggests. She's a little anxious today, eager to perform and not let the blonde viewers down, so wish her luck.

Steady away play as expected in these very early stages.

One player noticed to have a decent stack of around 14k is Brian (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=2505) Reid (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=2505).

I will keep an eye out for Al for you Dewi, last I saw of him he was making the most of beer being available at the bar due to you being absent.

Where's Kris and Linford when you need them? I think we're breaking records here! Sadly, not in numbers, 107 so far, but we can boast the fastest ever "floor" shout. The man heading straight into next Christmas' Guinness Book of Records is Dave Smith (he also has the record as the only GUKPT champion from East Midlands to wear a tweed hat at the table), after he asked for a ruling within the first couple of hands. "He can't come in the blind, surely," inquired Smith. And, of course, the newcomer couldn't. Game on.

Wow, it's not often overseas players grace us with their presence here in Nottingham, but perhaps thanks to recent events in London, we are honoured to have Norway's Jan Sjavik and Andreas Hoivold here with us today. Whilst Sjavik has a record of results as long as Mr Tickle's arm, Hoivold is one of few EPT winners to have player in DTD having triumphed in Dortmund last year. Who said this was an easy field?

Greg Hill sees himself in a pot pre flop raising and reraising HU,  a long dwell on Gregs part only to call a 2k bet. Flop brings 5c 8h 2d  more betting,  2.5 k by matey boy,  bringing a call by Greg, turn and river Th 2c. Show down both players held AA.  Choperty chop.

As if the ghost of Cat Stevens (or Boyzone for those under the age of, well... tikay) was watching from the rail, father and son combo Greg and Geoff Hill have been plonked on the same table and are set to do battle. They may share the same blood cells, but their approach to the game has certainly changed.

Here we have Greg, an eager beaver braced and ready for his action, ipod to help him focus and a cup of coffee to keep the caffeine count up.

But who would have thought it would have been this early? With 6s 3s on a 4s 8s 2s board, it was of no surprise to see the chips go flying in, especially when it emerged that Mallu had hit the flop hard with 4c 4d. Unfortunately for the youngster, the eight on the turn had him flummoxed, and although he had a single out for the straight flush, no such miracle occurred. As you can see from the photo, with just 2,000, Linton looks like the cat who not only missed the cream, but was tied up, gagged and forced to watch a rival cat eat it in front of him.

On an Ahrt 2s 9c Kd 6d board, Billy (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=49) Ngo (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=49) called a bet of 700 on the turn followed by 1,350 on the river. Although he had two pair with 9d 2c, Bebb-Jones had him pipped to the post with Kh 9s. It was an odd moment at the end actually, as neither player wanted to reveal their hand first, Bebb-Jones fearing his opponent had aces up when Ngo announced "two pair".

Early exit for Michael Millard.

After raising it up 450 pre flop and getting one caller ( not sure of positions as got relayed by another player ), Michael Millard sees a flop of 7x 7x 3x. Michael gets his chips in,  the caller is in there in an instant to proudly show a flopped house holding 7s 3s. No improvement for Michael's pocket jacks sees him left with around 400.

His remaining chips went in, to no avail, a couple of hands later.

That Dave Colclough doesn't mess around. He may look nicey nicey on the surface, but deep down lies a poker menace, one who'll slither around patiently until he finds a spot and then strike with the venom of a spitting cobra. I can't say for sure, but it looked like the button had made it 700 preflop, the big blind called and El Blondie pushed for 7,800. Either way, both players quick marched out of the way and an aggressive Colclough took the pot. He hasn't won this event yet, perhaps October will be his month.

He reports to have got in cheaply in late position with 8h 9h to see a delightful flop of 6s 7d 5d.

Big Al makes it 2k to go to be met by a re-raise of 5k from Farhad Afshin. Al's chips moved all in faster than Dewi to a bar.

He is now sitting comfortably on a stack of around the 18k mark.

As always, you can buy in up to the end of level two here at DTD, a cracking incentive for those coming from afar and fearing heavy traffic. One man who's arrives post starting whislte is bracelet winner and huggable Northerner Lawrence Gosney. He's just joined a table with James Mitchell, Marcus Bebb-Jones and young James Mitchell, so expect fireworks.

With the board reading 6d 5s 7h, I joined the action with Chris Bruce leading out for 600 and adopting the faces on hands, elbows on felt position that we have become so accustomed to. Trevor Pearson, a few seats down, decides to play back at Bruce, and promptly makes it 1,600 to play. Without too much hesistation, Bruce shoves his entire stack of around 10,000 across the line, as if to say, "Come on then, sunshine, let's see how big those plums are." Pearson decides to wait for a better opportunity, but may have rued that decision as Bruce shows 5d 4d for just middle pair with the open ended straight draw. "I didn't think he'd reraise me with the straight," concluded Bruce.

If Mr Chips went on strike, then Roy Walker might come looking for Marcus Bebb-Jones, as the Birmingham based player has more chips than anyone at the moment with a mouth-watering 24,000. They came in two hands, according the horse's mouth. On one hand he caught a small flush on the turn and called a bet of 3,000 on the river from Billy Ngo with the big blind also getting involved. And in another encounter, he flat-called a raise preflop with kings and prised some chips off pocket tens on a 7-7-4. Sadly for Bebb-Jones, the flop was as far as it got as his opponent managed to escape relatively cheaply.

Will find out ASAP for you Dewi.

Mean time on table Bid Al more action unfolds.

Al raises on the button to get a push all in for around 4k from Waheed (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1690) Ashraf (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1690).

On the backs .............Ac Ks for Big Al against Waheed's mighty  Aspades 6c.

Flop brings 6h, joined on the river by 6c so a double up for Waheed. Leaving Al with 14k.

Brushing off the dust from my Miss Marple hat, I managed to grab a sneak peak of the final table of the Team Event and see that with just two players remaining, it was this man who had the lead. For those of you who frequent these shores, you'll recognise this cool cat as the Nottingham terminator himself, DT (http://www.dusktilldawnpoker.com/)D (http://www.dusktilldawnpoker.com/)'s own Terath (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=2129) Kandola (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=2129). He has such an impressive wall of chips going into heads-up that even the Great Wall of China would look small if it relocated to Legoland.

As I waded my way through the playing area, I was stopped in my tracks by a disgruntled James Roberts. For those of you who are live update connoisseurs (they're a rare bunch), you may recognise James as being a fellow updater for our friends at awop. Today, however, James has swapped the camera for the cards in an attempt to get his dirty mitts on that 12k first prize. "What, no updates on me?" he moaned. "People are watching." Well, just to prove that we meet demands, here's a James Roberts update for you, complete with cheesy grin photo...

James currently has his head above water with 13,000. Those 3,000 came from pocket kings, betting every street before taking it down on the river.

There was howling on one table as a board was dealt out, and reluctantly digging up my wolf instincts, I perked my ears aloft before racing over to see what all the fuss was about. Although I missed the showdown by a mere whisker, John Sadler was on call to fill me in on the gruesome details. "The short-stack [Kevin Pearce] was all in on the button with A-T against the small blind's [Tony Bedford] A-K," he retold. "The board came A-T-4-K-T."

Pearce was desperately short-stacked at the time, so still only has around 1,800, and likewise, Bedford takes just a minor hit, his stack slipping a tad to 8,000.

Bit of a dispute regarding betting procedures on table Colclough.

Not too sure of the whole affair, it seems Dave was all in AK v AK,  but somehow incorrect betting took place in which the dealer was at fault a wrong bet occoured

then around 2k in chips went missing somewhere along the way.

Dave is still in, but obviously not improved his stack a great deal with that last hand. Maybe we can get the full story at the break.

99 players remain.

It's been a while since Linton departed, but I have garnered the details of his swan song. Down to just a couple of thousand after his unfortunate clash with Ali (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=23) Mallu (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=23), Linton raised it up and was called in one place by John Sadler who had 8-9 suited. Sadler flopped a flush, but slowplayed his hand until the turn where all the chips went in. Linton threw his cards into the muck, so was clearly drawing dead, and swiftly made his exit.

A bit more info on the mix up on DC's table.

It appears Matey boy raised to 1500, Greek Jack flat calls to see Dave Colclough under raise all in. Matey boy then re-pops another 6k  which results in Greek Jack folding his pocket 10's and the boys going in AK v AK.

A, The re-raise should have been a no go.

b, Jack would have hit trips.

c, Two, not so happy bunnies.

Lawrence Gosney, Mateyboy and Klys Miroslaw saw a three way flop of 2s Qh 4c. Mateyboy led for 600, Miroslaw called and Gosney passed. On the 8c turn, Mateyboy bet again, this time 1,000, and Miroslaw called. Both players checked the 3d river, Miroslaw taking it down with Jd Js to his opponent's 5s 4s. Miroslaw now on 19,000.

More chip counts to come at the end of this level, in about 30 mins time.

The latter getting it all in with pocket 8's on a 5 6 9 board, to be called by Mateyboy holding 10 9.

A couple more counts.

Sir Lawrence 7k.

Marcus B J 32k.

Marcus Bebb-Jones may be riding high with around 30,000, but he just lost a pot to this fella, Shafqat Mirza. With the board reading 6d Td 4d, Bebb-Jones led out for 700 and Mirza made the call. An 8h turn triggered another bet from Bebb-Jones, this time to the value of 1,600. On this occasion, Mirza made it a total of 3,200 to play, and Bebb-Jones quickly let it go. As a result, Mirza is now on 13,000 in chips.

We're actually witnessing a surprising amount of action during these first few hours, many of it coming preflop. I joined this one slightly late, but it looked as though Craig Emptage limped from UTG+1, Ky Hutchinson raised to 800, Ali Mallu called and Kevin Pearce called. Back round to Emptage, who made it a total of 2,700 to go, which was enough to take down the pot there and then, although Hutchinson folded very reluctantly and seemed evidently frustrated.

Emptage (pictured below) now has around 17,000.

It's time to Ngo for Billy (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=49) Ngo (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=49), the former GUKPT finalist being taken out of this tournament by neighbour Matt Heasman. It all went down on a Ks Aspades 4s flop, Heasman's leading bet of 1,600 being raised to 4,200 by Ngo. After fondelling his chips briefly, Heasman shoved all in. Ngo then made a noise that can only be likened to a constipated wookie, before asking, "How much more is it?" The answer was 5,800, and although he suggested out loud that he was drawing dead, he made the call and flipped over Ad Js. Heasman tabled Kd Kh, and prepared himself for an onslaught of sweaty palms. But he needn't have worried as the 8d turn and 9d river were both blanks, thus earning him both the pot, and the scalp of Mr Ngo.

I'm afraid Kevin Pearce is now out, vinni. David Statham raised it up preflop, only for Kevin to push all in for around 3,500 with pocket sevens. Tony Bedford found pocket tens one seat down, and stuck in several thousand himself. It was lucky he did in the end, because Statham managed to let A-K go, which would have eliminated both players in emphatic style on an A-K-x-x-K board. Nevertheless, Bedford, survived whilst Kevin didn't. Here's Bedford just moments ago, happy to be back up to his starting stack of 10,000.

This demonic looking chap is Vasilelos Kontoglannis. Why he looks so menacing I'm not sure, but maybe's it's due to the hand he just won with. Now on 14,000, he doubled through with sixes versus aces when a third six hit the flop for... wait for it... 666. dodododododo (that's meant to be a scary Twilight Zone dododododo, although I've now realised that writing dodododododo isn't scary in the slightest and reads more like a deranged updater just repeating the word 'do'.)

Spencer (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1870) Lawrence (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1870) may have three WSOP final tables to his name, but he doesn't have a DT (http://www.dusktilldawnpoker.com/)D (http://www.dusktilldawnpoker.com/) one, and he won't break that duck this time round. With Garinder (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1682) Purewal (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1682) raising it up preflop, Lawrence pushed with pocket sevens only for James Mitchell to come over the top with A-K. The sevens failed to hold up on a 6-K-J-6-T board and, to be frank, Spencer was gone.

"How did you like that flop?" I asked. Ashraf, now back up to 8,000, wiped his brow and mouthed 'phew'.

Stephen Lovatt is all but out with a bowel of rice after clashing with Rob Clark (pictured). I joined the mayhem on the 3h 6s Kh flop, with Clark flat-calling Lovatt's bet of 4,000. After both players checked the Ks turn, Lovatt made a rapid quick-fire bet of 9,500 on the 8h. Clark made the call with 7h 6h. "A bigger flush, you win, a king's no good." Lovatt had Aspades Qs.

A decent pot has swung its way to Marcus (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1329) Bebb-Jones (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1329).

Sitting with  Js Jc  and after much raising and re-raising between himself and 1 other player we saw a flop of  3x 4h 5h and a turn of Jh

With around 10k sitting in the pot Mateyboy shoves all in for 28k with an insta call from Marcus.

Mateyboy shows his Kh Kc the river comes a juicy 3 for a house for Marcus and a sharp exit for another player leaving us with 76 players.

Lawrence makes it known that it took Marcus 0.001 of a second to call and that he couldn't have given a flush draw on the turn a second thought.

Newsflash courtesy of Phil Clark, who seemed less than hesitant in sharing Mazhar (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=2117) Latif (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=2117)'s demise. "He doubled up before he went with A-J versus K-K" reported Clark eager to emphasise Latif's luck before moving on to his exit. "Then he moved with K-J, but ran into A-K."

His assassin (pictured below) confirmed the report. "I'd been trying to get rid of him for a while."

Ali raised pre flop to 750 in 2nd position Jim shoves all in for 5.2 k. Ali A-T v Jim's Th-Jh. The A high holds.

Two hands later he chops a board after calling short stack David Statham's all in with A-K against David's A-T but with the board paring it was a split pot.

He might be ordering both those beverages, and then some, because he's just been eliminated from today's event. I took a photo of him and his once 12,000 stack just moment before, and stayed around long enough to witness his demise first-hand. With the board reading, Jh Td Ad 4s, Alan made a move with Kd 9d, but ran headfirst into Aspades Jd which duly made the call. Alan had outs, but none of them emerged on the river, the Ks merely rubbing salt in already open wounds. "He'd been pushing me off pots," grumbled Alan afterward. Sadly for the blondeite, this was the occasion where his opponent actually had the goods.

Mallu has a loose reputation, but he had the goods this time. Sadly for the Bolton GUKPT runner upper, so did Denton, as Ad Ks out-gunned Qc Qh on a Jh 2d Th Kh Js board. It wasn't a fatal hit for Ali, who still has over 20,000.

After being check-raised from 1,150 to 3,500 on a 9h 3c Kd 3d board, Tony Salmon made the call before leading out for 3,500 on the 2d river. Andrew Rhodes made the call, but didn't seem too happy about it, especially when Salmon revealed Td 8d for the rivered flush. Rhodes showed the 3h.

Short stacks are starting to push all over the shop one of which I managed to catch just as the turn card hit the board.

There had been a little action between Terry Brown in late position and Garinder Purewell on the button, resulting in a pot of around 5k. Terry Brown pushes in the remainder of his stack around 8k, over the top of Garinder's test the water bet on the board of  Kd  8c  4h  Th, forcing Garinder to fold and Terry to flick over 1 card Ks.

Not too much action since the break, the players teasing me by moving the chips around, but refusing to give me a showdown to report.

Nevertheless...

(1) Ali (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=23) Mallu (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=23) just re-popped Ky (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=239) Hutchinson (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=239) from the small blind, 1,400 to 3,650. Hutchinson, who was sitting in the cut-off, had 5,000 behind, and seemed tempted to stick it up Mallu, but eventually went with the fold.

(2) Marcus (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1329) Bebb-Jones (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1329) continues to accumulate enough chips to put Harry Ramsden's out of business. His bet of 9,000 on a Qc Ac 5s 3h 6s board took down a nice pot when Klys Miroslaw folded. A few hands later, and Klys Miroslaw exited.

(3) On a 7c 6h Ks flop, John Sadler bet 1,200 and Jon Spinks called. Both checked the Td turn only for Sadler to lead out on the Th river for 1,500. "Go on, I call," sighed Spinks almost reluctantly. Sadler shook his head as Spinks took it down with 9h 9d.

Er well, I arrived late and took my seat at about 8.40pm, I was on my way out the door by 8.55pm courtesy of a set over set jobby on the flop, that filled up on the river versus Lawrence Gosney. That was an expensive 15 minutes entertainment for the evening LOL.

Ian Lyons just eliminated a short-stack who pushed UTG for a total of 6,900. Lyon's made the call from the small blind with Ad Kh, his opponent showed Ts Th. A 3h 7h Kc 3d 6h board later and the pot was his.

Ouch, I thought I saw your name on the early eliminees list. Hard luck.

If it makes you feel any better, you weren't the only victim of an unfortunate case of cold deckary. Vasileios Kontogiannis caught up with me earlier on to share his tale of woe. He'd seen aces cracked by kings for a 36,000 pot when a king arrived on the tun. At the time, it would have put him right up there with the chip leaders, but it wasn't to be, and he was gone.

Couple of chip daddies.

James Mitchell 57k

Marcus Bebb-jones 85k

From where I am sat just seen the exit of Thomas Horton, I managed to get a quick word with him before he left, what a nice boy too.

He said he had been card dead and decided to push with his K Q only to run into 10 10.

Pete Singleton has doubled through off Marc Goowdin, Ahrt Kh versus Ad Tc on an ensuing 3d 3h 3s Kd (come were secretly hoping for a three)... 2s board. He's remains short-stacked however with 5,700. "It doesn't make sense, he's doubled through three times and he's still short," observed MrCool.

A big hand developed on the near table, Daniel (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=2259) Ward (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=2259)'s bet of 11,000 on a Ts 7c 2c 2h board being reraised all in by Richard Keleft for precisely 20,500 more. As Ward deliberated, Keleft looked as calm as the Caribbean sea, sitting back in his seat and taking a swig of his pint as if watching the cricket on a Sunday afternoon. In the end, Ward made the fold to leave him with around 25,000, and Keleft took it down.

Notice James (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=2174) Roberts (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=2174) in the background perfecting a look that would make George Romero snap him up in a heart-beat.

Meanwhile, James Mitchell has smug mode activated, and rightfully so - he's Marcus (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1329) Bebb-Jones (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1329)' closest competition with 55-60,000.

Just managed to catch Pete Singleton making a sharp exit out of the double doors. According to Marc Goodwin, Rob Clarke limp-blind-called from the small blind (I think I'm going to have to coin that phrases, even if it is gobbledygook) Pete Singleton's 3,000 push from the big blind. Singleton had the best of it with K-Q, but Clarke flopped a straight with K-Q. Wouldn't want to be the passenger of that journey home.

Des Jonas moment of exit goes as follows.

One limper so Des announces it's time to gamble so throwing in his short stack blind he gets his much needed caller flom the limpman ( Rob Clarke ).

Rob displays two over cards K Q whilst Dez shows the 2 3.

He left the table suprisingly quiet which is most unlike Des.

Our very own Matt Russell aka Evil Pie is in push mode.

One limper in UTG, Rob Clarke, on Matt's SB gives him the opportunity to shove his stack right over the line in one swift and casual motion. Rob folds.

Very next hand on Rob's BB and Matt obviously being the SB he once again pushes but this time he gets a dwell and a request for a chip count from Rob. No action unfolds as Rob decides it's just a bit too much for him to call.

We've now entered into the final 45 minute level of the night. The blinds are 400/800 with a running ante of 100 and an average stack of 25,106. 47 players remain. Marcus Bebb-Jones is your current chip leader with just over 70k.

Another player for the long and lonely walk home.

With the blinds at 400/800 and a running ante of 100 Brien Reid, on the cut,  off decides it's time to push with A 8 only to be called by the BB, Jonathan Spinks holding AQ. Both players were pretty evenly stacked with 13.5k to 13.8k Jonathan now lives to see another round or two.

I pictured him riding low on the previous page, but David Edwards is now riding middle (okay, I confess, that phrase doesn't exist) with 15,000 after doubling through with pocket tens versus pocket queens. One ten wasn't good enough, neither was two probably, but there were no more in the deck so he had to settle for quads. Edwards' table broke soon after, and he has now joined Messieurs Mallu, Sadler and co on the table nearest to base.

Detective work would be easy if the killer just turned up at the station and said, "Yep, it was me." Updating's the same. James Roberts just trundled up to my desk and said, "You want my exit hand?" Of course, much like PC Plod at the station would, I happily embraced someone doing my work for me and invited him to fill his boots. Anyhow, apparently it was James who was the victim of the above hand. This bashed him down to 1,000 in chips and with the big blind at 800, his diminished stack went in a hand later with 8-5 suited, only to be called by K-J nd Q-T. James flopped an open-ended straight draw and even turned a flush draw, but like a hypnotic belly dancer, the poker gods can be teasing at times and made sure none of his outs arrived on the raggy river.

Lee Nayler has been spotted propping up the bar in exactly the same way as Delboy Trotter did when he fell through. Observations on physical posturing aside, this means that he's been eliminated from today's event.

Marc (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=257) Goodwin (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=257) is using his short stack to the max pushing all in at any given opportunity.

After telling me not to move from the table as he was going all in for the next 5 hands he folded under the gun, then came his BB, not looking once again he calls an all in from the cut off, Michel Sterk, who shows Ah 10h but in a true Goodwin fashion Mark flips over Ac Kc much to the disbelief of the young Norwegian.

Next hand he somehow managed to get away from Chris Bruces pocket A's and remains in the game with a stack of approx 10k which is more than we can say for Michel Sterk who reraised a 3k bet all in for the remainder of his now depleted stack and received the call from the original raiser whom held 9c 9s to Michels 7h 7s. Nothing came to inmprove his 7's so off he toddled.

Just a few more hands to report before we hit the sack (separately, I might add). One pot that I must regale you with is the unfortunate near demise of Pete Wigglesworth. On the very last hand of the evening, Wigglesworth raised to 5,000 with Ks Kc only for Mohammed Shoahebe to come over the top for 7,000 more with Jd Jh. Of course, Wigglesworth bit his arm like an alligator with toothache and made the call. With Shahebe looking defeat in the face, the board came 6d Th Tc 2h...

drum roll please, affroed maestro

... Js

And in a heartbeat, Wigglesworth's hopes of heading into day two with a playable stack are torn to shreds. Instead, he returns tomorrow with just over 2,000.

The rise and fall and rise and fall and rise and fall of Rob Clark

If anyone's been up and down like Julian (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=225) Thew (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=225) on a trampoline, it's Rob Clark. Not since I last visited Alton Towers have I witnessed a roller-coaster ride like this, Clark's heart sure to be a flutter as he endured all-in after all-in. However, it was the first of his showdowns that was the crucial pot, and the one that allowed Chris (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=65) Bruce (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=65) to take a big stack into day two.

(1) With Clark raising it up to 2,500 from early position, Bruce made it 8,000 from the blind and Clark called. On the 8h 8d 8c flop, Bruce led for 10,000 only for Clark to come over the top for Bruce's last 7,000. In a flash, Bruce made the call and tabled Qs Qc. Perhaps misjudging Bruce's remaining chips, Clark showed a paltry Th 6c. The 9h turn and 5c river were academic, and the monster pot went sailing over to Bruce, who, like his fellow tablemates looked on with more than an raised eyebrow.

(2) Down to the felt, Clark then found himself all in a few hands later versus two other players. After a Qh 2s 6d Jc 4d board was checked down by Matt (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=2115) Russell (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=2115) and Bob (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=50) Ballou (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=50), Clark showed Jd 6c to stay alive. Russell tabled 9h 9c.

(3) With the fat lady sent back to the dressing room, Clark rose back from the dead like a phoenix from the flames when he doubled up to 20,000. He pushed from late position with 4s 4d, was looked up by Bob (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=50) Ballou (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=50)'s Ac Jd in the big blind, and duly survived a Qd Kh 7d 5s 5c board.

(4) A few minutes before the end, Clark returned the favour and doubled up Bob (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=50) Ballou (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=50) with Q-9 suited versus nines. As a result, I believe Clark ended the day with around 14,000.
