Title: BlueSq.com GUKPT Thanet: Day 1B
Post by: NoflopsHomer on October 17, 2008, 01:16:57 AM
Welcome back to day 2 at the Thanet (where?) GUKPT. Got to admit, this place is growing on me, like a fungus or something. Ok, I'm joking, but is actually a really nice place around here and the staff are very friendly and helpful. There's even a Starbucks here which is open to six selling enough coffee to make me as hyperactive as Mike Matusow in a room full of cameras. They reckon there should be another 110 or so players coming in today putting the total just shy of 220 which I think is a pretty good turnout considering no-one has a clue where Thanet actually is.

People expected to be playing today:

Jeff Kimber
Karl Mahrenholz
Dewi James
Praz Bansi
Sunny Chattha
Chaz Chattha
Pete Linton
Other names I can't think of due to tiredness.

Play will once again start at 2pm.

Yes indeed, they are off. The TD attempted to start the blinds off at 600/1200 but then decided that that would be a little unfair on the players, so at the last minute relented and started them off at 25/50, same as yesterday.

Among those who have made it out to Thanet today are such poker luminaries as Priyan De Mel, Roberto Romanello, Jim "Bookiebasher" Moult, and the ever-welcome sight of poker leading ladies Michelle Orpe and Liv Boeree. Overheard conversation between Liv and Jeff Kimber: something concerning Mlles Boeree and Orpe sharing a bed? Not very sure about that, but I'm certain that it was all purely Platonic, of course. Not to worry, norkage fans, photos of the both of them on their way.

Early disaster for Adam Noone. He got his whole stack in on a Qc 7h 6h board with 6c 6d against Danny Ng's Qs 7s but after a 5s turn, the 7d appeared on the river in a nasty spot of 4-outerments.

Meanwhile on table 6, it's all gone Wong for Gary Symons, paying off Ken Wong's 3.5k bet on the 9c 6c Ks 7s Kc board with Kd Qd, but the turn was what which went wight for Wong, as he flipped 7c 7h for the house. Josh Gould's reaction says it all in the photo below, "Must be nice."

Jeff Kimber is out, sounds like a horror story, holding Qh Th on a A-K-J-x two heart board against a set of aces which paired up on the river.

Also gone is Jim Moult, another victim of kings vs aces, exacerbated by the fact that there was a misdeal and Jim had the jack he had dealt to him replaced by a king.

Irish Open finalist Kai Paulsen and Simon Trumper...

Matt Heeps has raked in er, heaps of chips after getting involved in a big three-way pot and coming out top of the heap. Ahem.

He bet out 1,525 on the turn of a 3s 7d Ad 6s board, and found callers in Rob Garfield and Chandra Khajuria. Come the 4c river, he bet out another 2.1k, and this time Garfield passed, but Chandra called -- when Heeps turned over Ahrt 7s for top two pair, though, Chandra flashed the Aspades and mucked the other card.

Dewi's take a bit of a knock, I'm afraid. He called a chunky bet from Lalit Khajuria (very possibly related to our friend Chandra Khajuria) on the river of a Q-T-8-T-x board with I believe a flush out, only to muck when Khajuria turned over Q-T for the full house. This is how Dewi feels about it:

Sunny Chattha has knocked out Michael Denton, the chips going in on the turn of the 3d 6d 2h Jc board.

Sunny: Jd 6c
Denton: Ahrt Jh

River: 3s

Out he goes, and Sunny has a rather nice stack now.

Rob Garfield has deprived Paul Ephremsen of a fair chunk of his starting stack.

Garfield bet out 500 on the Jc Qs 7c flop, and called when Ephremsen made it 1400. Both players checked the Ad turn, and Ephremsen flat called another 1100 from Garfield on the 5s river. However, Ephremsen's Ac 5c for a busted flush draw and rivered two pair was no good when Garfield flipped over Aspades Qh.

Michelle Orpe looks to have been skanked a little by Michael Ellis, his 9d 2h managing to snatch victory on the Ahrt 6d 2d 2s Qc board against her Ad 3d.

Kevin O'Leary is rueing a pass after betting 1,000 on a 9d 7d 5h but then folding to Katie O'Conner's raise to 2,500 after she agreed to show. She flipped Jc Js which was actually being pipped by O'Leary's Qd Qc

Andy Bacon is OUT, I'm afraid, info courtesy of Praz (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=353) Bansi (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=353) - the assassin was Anthony "The Bookie" Hardy, who's now up to 22k, and Mr Bacon immediately headed for the cash tables. Mr Hardy requests that Mr Bacon's former supporters now consider supporting him instead. ;)

Paul (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=2240) Lammas (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=2240), on the other hand, is still very much in, but is down to 4.5k or so.

Gigantic apologies for the delayments, I am still in the restaurant but back on the dongle the internet connection in here makes me want to cry. Also, I somehow managed to start a new thread while I was attempting to get the internet to work, so here's a post that got put there by accident:

Mr Bacon immediately headed for the cash tables.

Out of the frying pan, into the fire? A very streaky player by all accounts.

GAHHHH I'm back in the press room with the dodgy cable connection. Pray for me.

Moving back to some stuff that happened what seems like a long time ago now, Joseph Byrne is one of probably many people busted by now, his Kh Qs no good against Chris Cooke's 9h 9c, particularly when another nine hit the board.

Also, a few chip counts from way back then:

Jamie Keys: 16k
Liv (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1327) Boeree (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1327): 14k

Anthony (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1529) Hardy (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1529): 22k
Michelle (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1333) Orpe (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1333): 6k
The gentleman sitting next to Michelle (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1333) Orpe (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1333): "Everyone always wants to take photos of this lady, and they keep telling me to get out of the way." Ahh. His name is Gary Avery and this is him below. He's on 16k.

Richard Ashby, he of nosebleed PLO cash games, limps for 150, as does the player next to him. Sid Harris raises to 400 and then gets respect of erm...3 callers plus the two original limpers.

8h 7c 5h

It's checked to Harris who bets 1,000 and all fold to Ashby who quickly moves all-in and the action is passed back to Harris, who immediately becomes disinterested and gives it up.

The only man to cash in both WSOPE Main Events, James Keys and Sunny Chattha clash in a pot. The board reading 9-9-8-6-4, Keys turns over Th 9d but Chattha's Tc 7c has just pipped him on the turn raking in a pot of several thousand.

Kareem Louis, so bored he's playing pool as well as poker at the same time.

Mr Alan Vinson is no more, pushing all in from the button with Jc 6s only to get smacked about the face by James Mcillenney's big blind Aspades Ac.

Board: 4h 4s 9d 8d 4c

A most fantastic 2d Td Qh flop for Mr Glen Ashworth, in that he checked it, Simon Waller made it 3k, Ashworth made it 6k, Waller made it All In and Ashworth made it Call.

Waller: Aspades Qc (I actually seem to have written down Aspades Kc but I'm fairly certain it was in reality a Queen)
Ashworth: Ts Tc

Turn: 7s
River: 7c

People Doing Well

Rob Taylor is up to 23k, largely through doubling up with A-A v K-K, and then holding 3-3 against Mateyboy's A-J on an A-A-3 board. Clearly an excellent move coming here instead of the IPO.

Praz Bansi is similarly up to over 25k, albeit through methods unknown. He looks fairly cheery though. (Photo taken earlier in the day when he was less cheery; note bonus norks though.)

Josh (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1325) Gould (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1325) is out, a shove over the top of Gary Symons' 2k bet on a low board with A-K after also reraising preflop wasn't enough to stop the latter from folding nines.

Iain Bowden has knocked out Glynn (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=158) Rees (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=158) with A-Q vs Q-J

Praz (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=353) Bansi (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=353) is on 32k and hopeful of cashing in a GUKPT for the first time in ages.

Roberto (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=376) Romanello (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=376) is now on full motormouth mode as a dealer puts down a flop.

An unflinchingly cool Priyan De Mel is down to around 4k after calling a button raise preflop and a 1k bet on the Ad 8h Ts flop from David Morris. Priyan checked the 6c turn, and after some deliberation folded to another 1k from Morris (Morris leaving himself just 2k behind), showing an Ace. Morris showed an Ace too, but declined to show his other card...

Frank Romanello has taken Wing... Out.

All in pre, things weren't looking good for the Godfather as his Qd Qs was looking set to double up Wing's Aspades Ac. But a 3s Qc 3h 2h 6h board later and it was a broken Wing that shuffled off, while Romanello ordered a horse's head placed in his bed quietly raked in the chips.

------

Unrelatedly, Peter Woodyard is OUT.

Happy days for Simon Trumper as he gets it in with Ac Ks against Albert Sapiano's Aspades Qc. "This could be ugly..." mutters Trumper to me as the cards are flipped over, but no ugliness of any kind on the 7s 8c 2s Jh Js board and Mr Trumper enjoys a full double up just before the dinner break.

To which of our players today do these improbably shiny white and new sneakers belong?

The Albert Sapiano Story:

Albert Sapiano fires a bet of 2k on the turn of a 9d 9h 6s 5h board in a three-way pot but only Kareem Louis calls. Both check the river and Albert is forced to flip Ad 7d, Louis shows 9s 8s.

Shortly after, Albert tries 3k on a Td 8d 8s 4s board and gets called by Gary Symonds, the latter electing to bet 3k on the Kd river which Albert quickly calls with Ad Tc, Symonds rivered him with Qd 7d.

Finally, Mike Ellis raises from the button and Albert pushes for around 5k from the big blind. Call from last year's Grand Final winner.

Ellis: Ac Jh

Sapiano: Ahrt Kd

9h 8h Jd 5h 6c

Sapiano is out.

Liv Boeree suffered a hit when she check-called 2k bets on the turn and river on a 3h Ac Ts 7s 5s board from Sid Harris. The bespectacled elder flipped over Tc Th, leaving poker's favourite Loaded magazine girl to tap the table and fold.

Attention Robert Boon fans, a bit of a boon for you, chortle.

He has recently doubled through Gary Avery - he was holding pocket sixes with another six on the flop, and Avery mucked his hand when the chips went in on the river.

--------------

Meanwhile Jason Shellum has enjoyed a fortunate double-up with Ahrt 6s against Jack "Dr Fun" Powell's Ac Kc, smacking the very living poo-poo out of the 6h 4d 6d 8d 3d board.

What edifying literature is James Browning reading? An interesting and relevant poker magazine? A great novel to expand his mind?

No! It's Page 3 of The Sun. Obv.

Daniel Parker is OUT.

----------

Still very much in is Praz Bansi, although he was last seen raising to 1.2k from the hijack and then, eventually, folding to a reraise all in (maybe 7k more) from Iain Bowden on the button. "Will you show me if I fold?" asks Praz, a sure sign that folding is what he's planning to do next. Bowden duly shows him Ac Kd.

Dave Clarke is out, missed the hand as I got into the poker room, but saw him shaking hands with Rob (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=381) Garfield (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=381) as he left.

Dean Swift and Roberto (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=376) Romanello (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=376) both check the turn of a Kd 8d Ac Qd board, the river is the 6d. Before Dean can act, Roberto says, "I'm going to bet this much [It's 1,250] if you check, I'm calling anything you bet, but this is how much I'm betting if you check."

Dean bets 2,025. Roberto sighs a little, "I have the second nuts here," he makes the call and Dean flips Ad Kc, Roberto shows Qc Jd.

Michelle (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1333) Orpe (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1333) has managed to double up throuhg Praz (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=353) Bansi (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=353) after he check/raised her virtually all-in on a 8c 5h 3s with Ac 8s, she felt she was committed and made the call with Qh Jd and the turn and river came Td and 9c.

She tapped the table and began to get up, "Good luck gents..." A few raised eyebrows of bemusement. "Oh...rivered the stone cold nuts." She's now back up to around 10k.

Stu Rutter is shaking his head, "I can't get that bit of luck, a guy squeezed, it was a fair enough play, with 6-4o when I had A-K for a 10k pot and hit. I just need a little bit of luck."

I have espied some newly-formed big stacks to join Glen Ashworth (35k) at the very top of our current chip standings.

Looking oddly depressed, considering how many chips he has, Mr Gary Symons (35k):

Similarly miserable, but on 37k, and I assure that if he goes deep you will be seeing some Crane Epics concerning this gentleman, Shane Cawe (caw!):

Less depressed and on 37k, we have Mr Andrew Grove, who seems to have a particular affection for one US-based poker festival in particular:

The Demise Of Mr G. Molloy

I ran over to the table after hearing cries of, "So sick," a sneaky trick that we updaters have to let us know that a big hand has just taken place.

It turns out that Mr Molloy had limped in early position and then snap-called big blind Cuong Tran's 6.5k push. Tran was holding A-Q, and Molloy was very ahead with K-K. Flop - K-J-T. Ouch.

Left with just small change, Molloy was all in on his big blind for not very much the next hand, and promptly tripled up when his Ahrt 6c was good on the Ad Ks Qh Qd 2h board.

It couldn't last though, and he moved in again the very next hand under the gun for maybe 3k. Then Kevin Bloor reraised to his immediate left, and then Cuong Tran moved all in from the button. Eventually Bloor folded, and they were on their backs, again.

Tran: Ac Ks
Molloy: Ad Qd

Board: 9s 5s Kh 9c Jd

Mr Molloy is, at last, OUT.

Mr Molloy (in the red), and what Mr Bloor thinks of the whole affair:

Attention Guests Reading The Updates!

What you need to do is sign up to blonde. Like pretty much all the updaters, it's quick, easy and completely free, and doing so will enable you to post on this thread and demand unreasonable things of myself and Floppy.

And an added incentive for you (or disincentive for the incredibly ungenerous of spirit, I suppose):

James (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=185) Browning (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=185) -- 31k. Musing with the jokey idea of online poker having the occasion misdeal to make it more authentic.

Gary Avery is not having a good day. He's just lost A-K to A-Q for a chunk of chips and further bemoaned his luck when his 8h 8d was cracked by Frank Romanello's 7c 6d which fared better on a 2h 7s 3h 6s 5c board.

Proof poker is now on a par with football and rugby with half-time oranges!!!

Snippets of news:

Priyan De Mel is super short but managed to double up with A-J vs 8-8. But it hasn't stopped Praz Bansi from jesting, "We need everyone to call his all-in and check the flop, turn and river. Then we make Priyan shows his cards, and one by one we slowroll him."

Priyan still just on shrapnel.

Simon Trumper -- 14.5k and seemingly enjoying the 90's dance music.

Ken Wong eliminated by Gary Symonds  (7-7 < A-A) who looks to be the chip leader with almost 60k.

Stu Rutter and Paul Lammas getting into some sort of arguement about a dealer, I think. Missed what it was about though.

Joy for Praz now, unhappinesses for former chip leader Andrew Grove, as Praz virtually doubles up to somewhere around the 40k mark and Grove is knocked down to 22k.

Grove limped and then called a raise to 1.6k from Praz, leading them to see an 8d 2d Jh flop. Praz flashed his cards at me standing behind him - they were exactly Ac Qs. Grove check-called 2.6k from Praz, and they proceeded to an Ahrt turn. Grove now check-called Praz' 4k bet, and they moved on to the 3s turn. Again, Grove checked and this time Praz bet 8k, leaving himself just 2k behind. Call.

Praz now shows everyone his Ac Qs so it can be legitimately reported, and Grove can only boast Kd Jd. I pronounce Praz now back up there with the chip leaders.

A micro-double up for an overjoyed Alan "Aldeano" Dean. He got it in with 8h 9h against Peter Arrigoni's Ad Ks and the board came through for him: 9s Js Qs Jd 8d.

He's now up to around 5k.

On the river of an Aspades 5c Ad Ac Tc board, Steven Boyd moved all in for a few thousand, a mere fraction of what was already in the pot. A tired-looking Paul Lammas called, and mucked when Boyd turned over Ahrt Qc - although afterwards he told the table that he had pocket kings. While Stuart Rutter seems to be giving him one of those gentle rubdowns where you ask them what they were doing checking the turn, etc etc, Lammas is down to 8k and glum.

According to Stu during the break, Paul had lost a harsh pot with K-K to A-x on an A-A-x-A-x board doubling the other player up by the river, and Stu said he was just sticking up for the dealer "who can't defend himself in these situations."

A double up for Terry Chapman courtesy of Cuong Tran. With a fair few chips in the pot by the turn of the 7s Qd Ks Ahrt board, Chapman bet 2.1k and Tran flat-called to see the Aspades river. Chapman now checked, but when Tran bet 4,150, Chapman went over the top of him for another 5,825.

Tran shook his head and counted out his chips (perhaps 14k), then shook his head again, then counted out his chips once more. Then he called, and mucked his cards with some force when Chapman turned over Ac Kd to take the sizeable pot.

I like his t-shirt:

The luck of the, er, Welsh for Roberto Romanello.

On his big blind, with around 6k left behind, he announced, "I'll gamble with anyone blind. I give you my word. Not every time, just this time."

Nevertheless it folded around to Lalit Khajuria on the small blind, who merely limped. Roberto sat with his hands tensed over his chips, ready to shove. "You gonna call me?" he enquired. Yes, was the answer.

Khajuria: Kh Qc
Romanello: Kc 5c, oh dear

Board: 5s 2c 7d Tc 8h

Roberto doubles through. Unbelievable.

This is how that feels:

Andy Warnes is OUT. he bet out 3.5k on a 7h 9d 2d flop, leaving himself 6.5k behind, only for Paul Riggs to raise to cover him. The clock was called, and eventually Warnes scrunched his eyes up tight and banged his chips down across the line. When he opened his eyes though, a sad sight to behold.

Warnes: 9h 5h
Riggs: Tc Ts

Turn: 2c
River: 7d

Live poker, Rigg-ed? You have been Warne-d. Or something similarly tenuous. Sorry.

Stuart Rutter moves all-in under the gun. He gets no callers but Richard Dawson sees the corner of Stu's top card is a little bent and says, "Your top card is the Kc."

Stu checks, and says "No it's not."

"Errr, ok, well what about the bottom card?"

Stu checks a second time, "Nope." flipping Ad Qd.

The corner of the card does look creased though and they get a new deck, which seems to help Dawson as he manages to double up with A-T against Mark Bointon's A-8 on a Q-T-9-6-K board.

Gary Symonds -- 60kish and temporarily distracted.

Jack 'Doctor_Fun' Powell has really emo-ed it up since dinner in terms of appearance, whilst adding a fair amount to his stack to put him amongst the chip leaders. We may have to upgrade him to 'Professor_Fun' at this rate.

He's knocked out Paul Penaluna with Kh Td vs Aspades Qs on a 8d 5d 5s 6h Th board before calling P Tevdore's UTG raise from the small blind. Both checked the 9d 8s Tc flop before Powell bet 2,300 on the 5c turn and 5,500 on the 3c river to get his opponent to fold.

Mike Ellis has eliminated a player known only to both updaters and tournament staff as Ticketless Man. There were four people involved in the hand (not sure who raised) but only two made as far as getting their cards on their backs preflop.

Ellis: Kd Kh
Ticketless Man: Ad Jd

Board: Kc 6s 6c 2c 2h

Jonothon Butters made it 2.1k and Liv Boeree called, but come the 6d 8s 5d flop, Butters put on his shades and announced, "That's a great blagger's flop. I'm all in." Liv folded, and Butters declined to show the blag.

Having handed over his fate to the poker gods earlier in the evening and having emerged victorious, there is now no stopping Roberto Romanello. Most recently he has knocked out Ian Cox - Roberto raised from the hijack and then called Coxy all in for not much more.

Cox: Ac Js
Roberto: Ahrt Qs

Andrew Teng raises to 2.2k from midposition. James Browning raises 6.6k from the button. Andrew Teng raises to all-in.

James Browning pulls a face. Andrew Teng sits there. James Browning takes a sip of water. Andrew Teng doesn't move. James Browning sighs and stands up. James Browning looks away for a few moments and Andrew Teng quickly whips out a ukulele and plays a 10 second riff before returning to his static motion just as James Browning begins to look at him again*. James Browning sits down and gives Andrew Teng a hard stare.

James Browning passes his cards.

Meanwhile, returning to the fascinating question of where (or what) is Thanet.....
people of a certain age will remember Ian Drury being less than polite about it in song. Let's have a chorus while we're waiting for some action on the tables.

Joining the action at Table Praz, he's contemplating a reraise from Tony Hardy (Seat 9) who has made it 4,200 more than Praz's initial raise (which I'm guessing was around 2k). Praz thinks for about a minute before announcing all-in, instantly making his opponent look pained with around 20k back and Praz having him covered.

Hardy says, "I've only passed this hand three times in my life and every time I've been right." Within 10 seconds he's folded Kings face up and to make matters worse, Praz turns over Qc Qh!

Hardy puts a brave face on it, but you suspect his true feelings have been psychically transferred across to the player in seat 1 instead...

He's being a spawny bugger. He just raised preflop UTG with 7-6 sooted and was forced to call a short-stack's all-in, the short stack holding Q-Q.

K-J-2-6-6

He's gone from 3,200 to around 17,000 now.

P Tevdore bets 4k with about 8k behind on a 2-4-Q-5 board, Sunny Chattha sets him for the rest and the Georgian (yes, you read that correctly) folds Qd Jd for the rest. Chattha shows Ac Ks.

Players are on a short break before the last level.

Sunny days for Sunny Chattha as he doubles through Kai Paulsen.

Paulsen made it 2.8k from the cutoff only for Sunny to make it 7.2k from the small blind. Paulsen asked for a count on Sunny's remaining chips - around 15k - before announcing all in. Insta-call, as you do when you have Aces.

Sunny: Ad Ac
Kai: Ahrt Ks

Board: 3h 9d 8s 5s 4c

The Rutter open-shoved preflop, and an also-shortstacked Jon Omara in the big blind equired, "Do you wanna gamble?" Replied the Rutter: "Errr... Yes."

There followed a short argument concerning what hands they might both have, but it was agreed that Stuart wanted a call. Fold.

James Browning, having managed to tear his eyes away from Page 3 of The Sun for a moment, raised to 3.2k, only for Praz Bansi to make it 8.2k. Browning promptly announced all in - a chunky 21,575 on top of Praz' reraise. Praz dwelled up in some turmoil. "Terrible slowroll if you've got Aces," commented Browning, but Praz folded, and now rests on around 25k.

Roberto Romanello continues his excellent luckage-ings, this time betting and then calling Dean Swift's all-in raise on on a 4d 4s Jd flop.

Swift: Jc 8c
Romanello: 5d 2d

Turn: 8s
River: 6d

In a manner that is not slow, Swift makes his exit, and Romanello sets to work adding Swift's former chips to his own pyramid o' chips.

With a quantity of chips in the pot preflop that I can only describe as Absolutely Loads, Steve Jelinek checked the 7c Qc 5h flop. Peter Arrigoni bet 4k, but Jelinek promptly moved all in for around 15k. Arrigoni dwelled.

And dwelled.

"sorry about this, but I'm struggling here," he said.

The clock was called.

Fold.

Jelinek showed 9h 9d.

Arrigoni showed Jc Js and looked as though he might cry.

Justin Lemmings, I mean Hemmings, has metaphorically jumped off the tournament cliff and is now OUT.

A fair few chips in the pot pre, Wasim Akhtar moved all in to cover Hemmings. After a moment's though, Hemmings called all in and things weren't looking good.

Hemmings: Jc Js
Akhtar: Qs Qd

Turn: Aspades
River: a very decisive Qh

Rob Taylor has been knocked out it a pot that left him rolling his eyes, all that was needed was a thought bubble that said, "Sigh."

Andrew Booth (midposition shove): 6s 6d
Rob Taylor (small blind shove): Jd Jc
Shane Cawe (Covering both in the big): Ac Kd

7s 4s 8c 4c 6h

The Scousers on the rail screams emphatically as their man triples up, he has Taylor covered while Cawe still remains with a decent stack.

Stuart Nash has doubled up with 5s 5h against the Aspades Ts of Jack Powell, all-in on the turn of an Ac 4d 3h 5d 6h board. Nash on around 46k.

Roberto Romanello has eliminated Iain Bowden, flipping his A-K successful versus his foe's Jacks.

Tony Hardy is OUT to Mr Andrew Teng.

Hardy bet out 4k on the turn of the Js 3h 5d Ad board and Teng called. Hardy then moved all in for 8.5k on the 6c river but Teng called that too and his Aspades 4s was good - Hardy turned over 8c Tc for a total bluff and headed for the door.

Hurrah! We are done with Day Ones here in Thanet, and tomorrow we will be moving forward to the next stage, namely, Day Two. Many interesting things have happened today, many delicious chickens and cups of coffee have been consumed, and if you would like to know about all that without the hassle of reading this entire thread, I urge you to read our daily tournament report over at the William Hill site when we get it there, probably in a couple of hours, and the official chip counts will also magically appear on blonde at some point tonight.

I believe that Floppy is posting one last hand, but that's not my problem :) so until tomorrow, my friends, I leave you with the immortal sentiments of Phil from AWOP:

Big hand goes against Roberto Romanello right at the end.

He sees a Ks Qc 4h flop against Glenn Ashworth. Glenn check/raises Roberto's 2,550 bet to 7,000 and then Roberto repops it to 12k. Ashworth now declares all-in and sits there listening to his headphones.

Roberto's talk tries to find out what he can, "I think you've got a set of Queens, have you got a set of Queens? I think you've slowplayed preflop and that's what you got, and I think you're going to show me if I fold."

Roberto folds and Glenn succumbs to all the outside interest, "You want to see?" He flips over Td 9h for merely a gutshot.

Roberto doesn't look happy.
