Title: BlueSq.com GUKPT Thanet: Day 2
Post by: NoflopsHomer on October 18, 2008, 01:41:09 AM
Welcome back, 68 players return including Snoopy!! Though he's short :( And he doesn't have that many chips. :(

A full list of chip counts and players will appear here magically in a few hours, please thence pick out your top three, preferably one big stack, one medium stack and one shorty.

Finally, will the winner be a young, overconfident whippersnapper? An old fart? Or just a regular donk?

Play restarts at 2pm with blinds 600/1200/100.

Snoopy had a spot of luck first hand, in that it folded around to him on the cutoff and he shoved. The button wasn't interested, and neither was Stuart Rutter in the small blind, who folded 3-5o face up. The luckiest bit, though, was that Nik Persaud had not managed to get out of bed in time to defend his big blind, and Snoopy picked up a few much-needed blinds and antes right there.

Jonathon Butters has slipped up and is outta here, Kd Td losing to Sami Yusuf's Ahrt 9d.

Jack Powell is out, he raised preflop from the cutoff and the big blind Andrew Clarke defended. The flop came out 9-5-4 and Clarke led out for 6k, call. On the 6 turn, the big blind bet 11k and Powell moved all-in for what Stuart Rutter said was about 18-19k more, the big blind quickly calling with a set of fours with Powell drawing dead with T-5o. Clarke wins what was a 73k pot to put him amongst the chip leaders.

A shove from William Martin was followed by a surprisingly swift call from Bernard Litman, thus setting off panic alarms in the eyes of Mr Martin -- but he had nothing to fear.

Martin: Qh Qc
Litman: Qs Qd

Board: raggy and flush-free and thus entirely irrelevant

A short-stacked Kiem Huynh raised and then called all in to a reraise from Kevin Terry in the small blind.

Bad time to be raising with K-9 - it's a bit of a dog at the best of times...

Terry: Ac Ad
Huynh: Kh 9d

Board: 2c 7d 8c 4s 6c

There was some gentlemanly handshaking, and Mr Huynh and his assistant headed for the bar.

Jerome Bradpiece has almost doubled up, moving all in on the river of a 3-8-6-5-2 board (three hearts on there, I believe) with most of chips already in the middle before the river. Roberto folded to the familiar sound of him begging to see Jerome's hand, and Jerome flashed only the 2h.

Mike Ellis raises from late position and Simon Trumper makes the call from the small blind.

Qc 8c 8h

Trumper moves all-in and Ellis begins to think for a good couple of minutes before basically calling the clock on himself, at which point he passes with 10 seconds left. Trumper shows Tc Th, Ellis said he had nines.

I'm afraid he's OUT. He made a move with 9s 8c but ran into the Qc Qh of Tim Flanders. Some hope initially on the Jh 4s Td 2h 8h board, but no cigar for that man.

A double-up for Elliot Peterman -- James Keys raised from the cutoff and then called Peterman's small blind shove for not much much more.

Keys: 7c 8s
Peterman: Kd Th

Board: 4h 3s Ts Jh 5s

David Anderson is similarly no more. He got it in ahead with pocket kings against the pocket jacks of Matt Heeps, but a cruel jack on the board sent him packing and Heeps breathing a sigh of relief. Heeps now has, ahem, heaps of chips -- looks like around 80k.

Rutter In The Gutter

Metaphorically.

He got it in with Aspades Td against Simon Trumper's Ac Kd, and stayed behind all the way down the Qd 7c 9s 9h Ahrt. He walked off without a word, I suspect in the direction of the bar.

Day 1a Official Shortstacker Joe Grech is OUT. He'd managed to double up to around 20k, but then got it in with pocket queens against Tim Flanders' pocket aces. No help for him, and he was putting on his coat and heading for the smoking section.

Incidentally, as I was reporting the hand, Jeff Kimber wandered up to me. "Is it normal to keep your magazine in your trousers like that?" he enquired, pointing to Mr Flanders. No. No it's not.

Official Day 1a Second Shortest Stacker Snoopy is still in, and striking fear into the hearts of his tablemates.

Andrew Clarke merely limped in on the button and small blind Simon Trumper decided to come along for the ride too, but both players folded when Snoopy moved in from the big blind for another 10.7k. He showed T-8 offsuit.

A few hands later, Trumper made it 4.8k from the cutoff but then passed when Snoopy moved in from the button. Trumper patted the beagle on the back.

He's still short, though. Sad beagle.

James Browning has gone from moderately stacked to, well, fantastically well stacked.

First he doubles up with Aces against Andrew Teng.

Then soon after, Mark Friedman limps, Browning raises, Michael Horne moves in, Friedman moves in. Browning calls.

Friedman: Qs Qd

Browning: Ad Ac

Horne: Jc Jd

Andrew Teng turns to me and said prophetically, "I passed nines."

9c 7d 6c Ahrt 3c

Browning possibly the chip leader now, though he gives back Andrew Teng 15k in the next hand after Teng pops his 5k raise to 15k and takes it down on the turn of an 7-6-5-A board.

McIntyre looks like a boy who has just been told he has to tidy his room and do his homework in the next 30 minutes or he gets no supper. He ends up folding what he says is A-Q.

9d 9s 6d ("Counterfeitability" muses Alex) 2s Ahrt. Another blonde gone.

Andreas (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=467) Hoivold (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=467) doubles through James (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=185) Browning (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=185) with Ace King vs Tens.

Jerome Bradpiece has lost about half his stack, he raised to 5.1k from early position and D Mitchell moved all-in for an additional 17.6k next to him. Jerome eventually made the call with Ac Tc and was in trouble vs Jh Jd.

Snoopy shoved with A-2 on the button but the small blind called with A-Q. A deuce came on the board, but a queen followed and the dejected beagle has scarpered off back to Hampstead. Wp, beagle, most unfortunate.

I should at this point also mention that this morning I made him swear that if he made final table, he would play it in a sombrero and a big handlebar moustache. Viva El Snoopio! Oh, the tragedy.

Jerome Bradpiece can return to his cave to hibernate until the next GUKPT as he is OUT.

Elliot Peterman raised from the button and big blind Jerome moved in for what looked like less than 10 big blinds. Peterman called, and they were on their backs.

Peterman: Ad 8d
Bradpiece: well ahead with Ahrt Kd

Flop: 5s 2d Aspades

Turn: 7d

River: dramatic pause from the dealer... 9d

Three-Way All In Craziness

I shall report this in a list format, as it seems the simplest way.

Liv Boeree (utg, 28k): 3c 3h
Praz Bansi (hijack, 38k): Aspades Kc
James Browning (big blind, covered both): Qs Qc

Imagine, if you will, the Wall Of Assorted Media And Railers around the table.

Board: 4d 4h Ac 8d Ts

Liv is OUT, Browning is down some chips, and Praz is up to 100k.

More Three-Way All In Craziness

No sooner was that last hand over, than another one developed on the next table.

James Mcellinney (utg): 7s 7d
Local boy Liam Pettman (utg+1): Ac Ad
Mark Bointon (hijack): Kd Kh

Board: 9s Jc 6s 5s 4h

Mcellinney and Bointon are both OUT, and Mr Pettman takes their chips, to the delight of his railers.

Huge Cooler!

Praz Bansi and Jamie Brown got involved in a huge pot, there looked to be about 80k in the pot when it came to the river of a Qc 3d 3h 5d Ac board.

Praz thought long and hard before putting out a bet of about 70k leaving himself 10k or so back. Jamie Brown instantly moved all-in and Praz jumped about in his seat as though he just felt an electric shock, he muttered, "Sick" to himself, before resignedly saying, "I call," flipping over Aspades 3s for a boat. But Brown had clearly seen Jaws, as he had a bigger boat, turning over 5h 5s.

Praz is out, Brown is the chip leader. I'm hungry.

Raise-Fold Action

Ah, that classic move. Proponents today include:

- Jamie Brown (he of the Praz-sourced megastack), who made it 6k preflop but declined to call Karl Mahrenholz' all-in reraise.

- Tim Flanders, who delighted in min-raising to a mere 2.4k from the button and then folding to Nik Persaud's small blind shove for another 19.5k.

A bit of a hit for Mike Ellis. He and William Martin saw a Kc 4h 2s flop and Martin checked to Ellis, who lazily threw in a 5k chip. Call. Both players checked the 5s turn, and Martin came out betting on the 7d river to the tune of 7d. After a pause, Ellis called -- and mucked when Martin turned over 4d 4c for the flopped set.

Nik Persaud is out, Tim Flanders shoves the small blind without looking, Nik gratefully calls with Ad Kh, Tim shows erm...8c 2s

Qd Jc 2d 4s Jd

Nik Persaud is darn diddly-doodly out, while Flanders is fan-diddly-tastically about average.

Andreas Hoivold also MIA.

Alan Dean knocked out by Jimmy Morgan. The former pushed and the lanky Scouser postured and thought before making the call with Qs 8d, live against Dean's Kh Jh. An 8-5-2-7-A board later left the Deanster pushing up the proverbial poker daisies.

Jamie Brown still looks to be chip leader with a whooping 280k or so, which put in context, is already about average for the final table. See you in 45 - 60 minutes.

And we're off once more...

Straight away Roberto Romanello has been virtually felted after Matt Heeps pushed versus Romanello's raise. The Welshman looked to be folding until Heeps said he would show if Romanello folded, Romanello changed his mind, pushed his stack in and flipped 9c 9h, Heeps showed Ad Jd

Kd 6d Js 6c 7d

Heeps has erm...lots, Roberto has less than 10k.

The Jamie Brown Express thunders on, setting Andy Purser all-in from the small blind, Purser eventually calling with Ad 8c, ahead of Brown's 6h 4s until a Kd 6s 6d Aspades Td board got put out.

Meanwhile James Keys has had a frustrating ten minutes due to pocket tens. First Paul McIntyre pushes over the top of his button raise with 8h 8c against Keys' Ts Tc and gets there on a 9d 5h 2d 8s Kc board for a 100k+ pot. Soon after, Keys in a hand with Andrew Clarke, who bets 15k on the 8s Kc 3h flop which the double WSOPE ME casher calls. Both players check the Ahrt turn, before Clarke bets another 15k on the Ts river. Keys calls quickly but gets shown Tc Th.

Looks like he's lost about 2/3 of his stack since the break, and after the last hand he took a step back from the table for a minute to compose himself with his calm demeanour showing the slightest hint of a crack. He appears pretty restrained though.

Mike (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=287) Ellis (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=287) is rather short after doubling up Stephen Biggs. Ellis made it 11k utg and Biggs made it All In for 31.4k immediately to his left. It folded around to Glen Ashworth in the big blind who dwelled up long enough to have the clock called on him, but eventually folded. Said Ellis, "I'm sure better hands than this have been passed already," but still called.

Ellis: 7h 7d
Biggs: Tc Td

Board: 3s 5s 8c 8h 6c

Ashworth: passed pocket queens, and not happy.

Some guys in the background may have found gold:

Post by: danafish on October 18, 2008, 08:13:38 PM
Things are not going so okely-dokely for Mr Tim Flanders, I'm afraid to tell Flanders fans. He seems to have made some sort of move with 9s Tc but ran into Karl Mahrenholz' Kd Kh, the board reading Ks Aspades 6h Js Jh by the time I got there although I suspect this mainly happened preflop. Karl doubled up to around 110k, while Flanders dropped down to just 5.1k.

He managed to double that up a few hands later though, getting it in with Ad Td against Steve Jelinek who seems to have raised with Kd 5c from the cutoff. Board: 9c 2c 2s 8h 8c.

That hand left Jelinek with just 24k or so, which he open-shoved a few hands later triggering some craziness. Jamie Brown called in the small blind, but James Browning (no relation) moved all in for around 70k total from the big blind. Eventually Brown called.

Jelinek: 8h 8d
Brown: Ac Qs
Browning (no relation): Ts Th

Board: 6d 6h 9c 6c Jc

Jelinek is OUT, and James Browning (no relation) enjoys a more-than-double up.

Mr Jelinek, btw, is my belated T-Shirt Of The Day:

More dreadfulness for Mike Ellis, in the sense that he is now OUT. A preflop raising war between him on the big blind and William Martin on the cutoff resulted in over 70k in the pot when Mike Ellis moved all in for 30k more. Said Liam Pettman, "I don't like this table."

Martin spent some time running through all the possible hands that he though Ellis might have, asking Ellis if he had any of them, with no success. "Do you have queens?" Shrug. "Do you have ace-king?" Shrug. Said Simon Trumper: "Mike, do you have my nickname?" Said Ellis: "What's your nickname? Eights?"

Call.

Ellis: Aspades Ks
Martin: Kh Kc

Board: Qc 5h Kd Td 8h

Ellis: "Good call."

Martin (after Ellis had left the cardroom): "Woo."

----------------

Mr Martin has also since knocked out Mr Glen Ashworth, K-K against Mr Ashworth's A-5 with no help for the Glenster.

Mr Cuong Tran is the latest player to succumb to the nasty exiting bug doing the rounds in this tournament at the moment, and has gone home to recover.

Tran: 9d 9c
Jamie Brown: Ahrt Qc

Board: Ac Th 8h 4d 3h

Similarly James Keys has come down with a nasty bout of no-chips-itis as he ran his pocket fours into the pocket sevens of Paul Rigg.

Title: Re: BlueSq.com GUKPT Thanet: Day 2
Post by: NoflopsHomer on October 18, 2008, 08:25:30 PM
Tim Flanders is out, trying a stop and go on Jamie Brown on a Ks 2h 3h with Kc 4c, Brown quickly calling with Ac Kh which held on the 9s turn and 6c river.

Tim, "He finally raised my blind with a real hand..."

Simon Trumper has doubled up through Andrew Clarke with Td Tc vs 8d 8c despite the scary flop of a 7s 5d 6d Kc Ts board.

Similarly, Stuart Nash has doubled up with Aspades Kh against Jamie Brown's Tc 9c, the Qs Th Jd was pretty decisive, the 2c and 2s on the turn and river, frankly not worth my time and effort.

Hello from Matt!

Karl Mahrenholz raises to 10.5k from under the gun, Andrew Teng reraises all-in next to him and it gets passed back to Mahrenholz who is already deep in thought while Teng is as still as a statue.

Karl continues to think, and then, perhaps attempting to get a tell, tries stripping to get something from Teng.

Teng isn't biting though, and in the end Mahrenholz passes the chips over to his young opponent.

Joy for Heeps fans! Do make yourselves known, by the way, and feel absolutely free to vocally support your boy on here if you feel that way inclined.

He raised to 12k utg, only for D Mitchell on his immediate left to make it All In for another 32.8k. Call.

Heeps: Ahrt Qc
Mitchell: Kd Qd

Board: Kc Ac 5c 3s 3h

Mr Heeps claps with joy as he rakes in the chips, bumping his stack up to 132k. A dejected Mr Mitchell, meanwhile, heads for the door.

Paul Riggs limped in, only for Martyn Frey to make it 12k, only for Mike Moore to make it 25k, only for Rigg to get out of the way, only for Frey to move all in to cover Moore, only for Moore to call.

Frey: Aspades Ahrt
Moore: Kh Kd

Board: a very cruel 9c 5h 2s 7h Ks

Moore doubles up to somewhere in the region of 160k, and Mr Frey is very, very unhappy.

A double up for the Last Local Boy Standing, Mr Liam Pettman, courtesy of a now very depressed Dave Penly.

Penly: Ac Kc
Pettman: Kd Ks

Board: 2d Qc 7s 8h 9h

To cries of, "Geezer! F***ing geezer!!!" from his friends at the rail, Pettman doubles up to 180k or so, while Penly is down to less than 20k.

The f***ing geezer enjoying a glass of wine. I reckon his railing friends have had a few too:

Karl made it 11k in early position and it folded around to Jamie Brown in, I think, the small blind, who made it 33k in total. Karl then pushed all in for another 90k and Brown called.

Brown: 9h 9d
Mahrenholz: Kc Kh

Mr Mahrenholz now on probably 240k.

This is entirely down to the demise of Jimmy Morgan in 20th place, who tried it on with 2-3 in the small blind. Jamie Brown found A-K in the big blind, though, and was only too happy to oblige.

Martyn Frey doubles up through Mike (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1468) Moore (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1468) with 6h 6d vs 9d 9c catching the 2h 7s 7d 6c Qs board slightly better.

Mike (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1468) Moore (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1468) soon raises to 18k after that, and Matt Heeps calls from the cutoff.

Qh 5h 4h

Moore jams for something between 120k and 140k having Heep covered. The latter calls with Aspades Qs, Moore turns over Ahrt (which was expected) with the Js

8h

All over.

Jh

I said all over after the last card, why are you reading this?

Meanwhile on the other table Dave (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=113) Penly (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=113) knocks out Bernard (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=48) Litman (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=48) with Ac Aspades vs Kh Qc after an emphatic 7c Ahrt 8s 8d 7h board.

Jonathon Gale has gone, as have my chances of using the headline "Gale Forces Win", he pushed with Kh Jd and was called by Paul Riggs with Aspades Qh.

A 7s Tc 3d 5h Qc board later leaves us with 13 players remaining.

Martyn entered the Frey but it was Rigged and he never came back out again. If that a) makes sense, and b) doesn't sound dirty by accident.

Yes indeed, Paul Riggs raised to 17k in the hijack and Frey went all in for 44.5k from the cutoff. They were coinflipping, but no luck for Frey.

Frey: Aspades Kh
Riggs: 3c 3h

Board: 8c Qh 6c Th 9h

Yes, almost almost certainly down to final table. It's still pretty early and they're down to 12 already.

For example (to make it look like I remember what's going on in the card room instead of just writing it down really fast, forgetting all about it while I think of kittens and nice things, and then go through my notepad when I get back to the press room), he's just now taken 20k off of chip monster Jamie Brown. Brown raised said 20k utg, but declined to call Mr Tufat Teng's push.

Jamie Brown has taken an uncountably huge pot off of William (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1430) Martin (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1430). It looks as though the chips went in on the flop or possibly pre, as when I arrived at the table, the uncountable number of chips was in the middle and they were both checking the turn of the Qc Js Qs 2s board. Come the 4s river, Martin bet 27k and Brown called, turning over a rather surprising Ks 3h for the rivered flush and absolutely nothing before. Martin just mucked.

Insanity. Usually from 12 players to the final 9 takes forever. It took precisely five minutes, but firstly a quick recap.

The Ups and Downs of Andrew Teng

Andrew Teng shoves from the cutoff and William Martin calls from the button.

Teng: Ks 9d

Martin: Jh Jd

8s Ahrt Kc 7c 3d

Double up for Andrew for precisely five minutes when...

Andrew Teng raises to 21k UTG, William Martin moves all-in for 116.5k, back around to Teng, call.

Teng: Aspades Qc

Martin: Ac Ks

Qd 5d 3d (Martin gets up, Teng gestures him to sit back down)...Kd (Martin does so)....9h

Teng back to 115k-ish,  Martin on 240k.

Teng shoves from the button, Stuart Nash calls.

Teng: Ks Qd

Nash: 5d 5s

Tc 8s Ad 6h ("Get there," says Teng)...Qs

"You won because he didn't say, "Get there," said Karl Mahrenholz.

Down to 11.

Sami Yusuf pushes all-in from the small blind with Ahrt 3h and Jamie Brown gives him a spin with 2c 2h.

Td 9h 7d 6h....Kd

Ever since knocking out Praz (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=353) Bansi (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=353), Brown has really been in control bulldozering the field, and probably the favourite tomorrow.

Final table bubble, and it's shorter than Freddy (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=834) Deeb (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=834).

Dave (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=113) Penly (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=113) has reraised Liam Pettman all-in preflop and Pettman decides to go for it.

Penly: Jd Jh
Pettman: Ad Ks

Qd Js 3d Qh Ahrt is the board and we have our final table. Full chip counts, pictures of finalists and bios that we might make up to follow.

We're done and dusted...

See you tomorrow.
