riggy is a great player and head of the acadamy at badbeat. He has gone deep with stacks in a few of these before doing an Andy Black. If he holds his head he will be there at the death. Good to see Karl. simon and penley(again) all there as well.

dont know the others and sure they are decent enough but I will be rooting for a top 4 as above.

Interesting facts (or not):

Karl Mahrenholz -- The only player to have previously made a final. Is very tall.
Paul Rigg -- Finished 12th in a GUKPT a couple of months ago.
Jamie Brown -- Been one of the chip leaders throughout the tournament.
Simon Trumper -- Former winner of Late Night Poker.
Dave Penly -- Has already won a side event this yet.
Mike Moore -- Day 1's chip leader, professional photographer.
Paul McIntyre -- Recently graduated from Swansea with a degree in marine biology
William Martin -- Was dropped off here today by a limo because he owns the company.
Andrew Teng -- Has very cool glasses, according to Dana.

And we're off!

Karl Mahrenholz starts with the button.

Dave Penly raises to 24k and it's passed to Jamie Brown in the big blind, who decides to set the tone of how he wants the final to proceed by reraising to 76k. Penly calls and I'm assuming he has a monster here to go up against the chip leader first hand.

Jd Ts 4h

Brown bets 85k and Penly thinks for about 30 seconds before folding.

I think he was about 3-1. Andrew Teng and Karl Mahrenholz at 7-1 and 9-1 looked to be the best value.

Andrew Teng raises to 20k on the button and Jamie Brown, who is not afraid to play a pot against anyone, makes the call from the big blind.

5c Ts 5h

Check check.

2c

Brown bets 26k and after some very slow and deliberate thought, Andrew Teng raises to 85k.

Deep in thought, Brown makes the call.

Qc

Brown looks a tiny bit uncomfortable at that card coming, and checks. Teng moves all-in. A sigh from Brown as he scratches his head, "Count please."

The dealer counts it out, it's another 107.3k more for Brown. He thinks for a minute and says with a smile, "It could be a really sick bluff."

But he folds, and it looks to be the first decently-sized pot Brown has lost in the last day or so.

Paul Rigg, who now is the chip leader, limps the button, Jamie Brown makes up the small blind and Dave Penly checks.

2c 7c Qs

Checked around.

7s

Brown checks, Penly bets 20k, Rigg calls and Brown folds.

6d

Penly bets 40k, Rigg folds.

Jamie Brown takes the next pot with a raise and a continuation bet, but his body language suggests he's a little tired and he doesn't look quite as crisp and clinical as he did last night when he practically ran over the tournament from about 40 left to the final table. He still has over 400k though, just might need a couple of Espressos...

Mike (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1468) Moore (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1468) check/raises a 22k bet from William (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1430) Martin (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1430) on a 6d Ahrt Qh board to 62k in a three way pot with Paul McIntyre before Martin and McIntyre both fold.

Next hand sees Jamie Brown bet 55k on a 5s Jd 4h 6h Ac board and Paul McIntyre make the call, only to see he's been rivered by the Aspades 9d of his foe.

"I knew he was bluffing on the flop," came a thick Scouse accent. McIntyre and William (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1430) Martin (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1430) are now the short stacks on the table.

Title: Re: BlueSq.com GUKPT Thanet: Final Day

Interesting final hand before we went on the break.

Paul Rigg limps from the small blind and Jamie Brown raises an additional 18k. Rigg now reraises to 58k and after some serious deliberation, Brown makes the call.

Ahrt Jc 4c

Check check.

6s

Rigg bets 55k and sits there in silence occasionally watching Brown play with his chips and occasionally gurning a little. Brown raises to 130k after some thought and the action goes back on the Blackpool player. He suddenly announces reraise, before adding another 100k on top of Brown's raise making it 230k. Brown instantly moves all-in and Rigg looks like he's just been told he's failed his 'A' levels and can't go to uni.

He counts out his remaining 160k, puts his hands on his head and looks utterly depressed. He folds. Jamie Brown now has all the chips in the world, well, almost a million of the 2.26 million chips in play. Taking that 3-1 shot now looks to have been a good bet.

Incidentally, the word on the grapevine is that Rigg had A-Q and Brown turned a set of sixes.

Back in a few minutes after the colour up.

Next hand Paul McIntyre moves all-in under the gun and William Martin pushes behind him, everyone else folds.

Paul McIntyre is out in 7th place winning £9,040

Mike Moore raises to 30k from the small blind and William Martin makes the call.

4s 9d Ks

Moore checks, Martin bets 50k and Moore quickly moves in. Martin looks at his remaining 90k and gives up, showing a six. Moore shows him a king.

Next hand, Moore tries limping the button and Martin makes up the small blind. Andrew Teng raises an additional 60k, the other two quickly fold. William Martin desperately needs to double up now.

Title: Re: BlueSq.com GUKPT Thanet: Final Day
Post by: NoflopsHomer on October 19, 2008, 05:08:01 PM
William Martin shoves the next two hands, gets no callers and is back over the 100k mark.

After this, Paul Rigg raises to 30k, Jamie Brown reraises to 90k with everyone passing back around to Rigg. He also gives it up very quickly, perhaps still stung by that hand just before the break for the colour up.

Brown raises to 24k from the cutoff the next hand also. Martin decides to defend from the big blind.

6h 4s Qc

Martin checks, Brown bets 100k setting him in. Martin passes.

Brown repeats the pattern the next hand from the hijack. No-one calls this time.

You hear the term, "He was raising every hand..." used fairly liberally in poker circles like when you want to excuse a shove you made against an aggressive player when he actually had a hand and you had junk. But here it's very accurate, Jamie Brown has been raising every hand this level and is proving unstoppable once more.

He takes two more sets of blinds with raises to 24k and then the third time Mike Moore makes the call from the small blind.

5s 7s 8c

Moore leads out for 45k and Brown quickly reraises to 105k. Moore folds and the Brown juggernaut rolls on...

Players on a quick toliet/fag break.

Paul Rigg raises to 35k from the cutoff, Jamie Brown reraises to 95k from the button to win the pot. I can't remember anyone dominating a table this much perhaps since Ketul Nathwani won in London earlier in the year.

Mike (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1468) Moore (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1468) down to 100k.

Next hand, Moore moves all-in from the button and Paul Rigg calls from the big blind.

Rigg: Ks Jc

Moore doubles up to 200k, Rigg is now short.

Andrew Teng raises to 36k from the small blind and Paul Rigg calls, as we see what Jon Raab remarks is "only our second flop of this level,"

Aspades Jd Js

Teng bets 40k, Rigg looks disinterested and folds immediately.

Jamie Brown's hold of the table is exemplified by the fact he receives a second walk in a row.

More Brown domination, Andrew Teng raises to 30k and Brown raises an additional 90k from the small blind. Ever since that huge pot he won from Rigg before the break, I don't think Brown has put a single foot wrong and people just aren't wanting to play a pot against him.

And just as I say that, he steals Mike Moore's big blind from the button.

Jamie Brown makes it his now traditional 28k from under the gun. Dave Penly reraises to 85k from the cutoff before Mike Move moves all-in from the button. Everyone, including Brown passes back to Penly who asks for a count and gets told it's an additional 124k which represents the majority of Penly's remaining stack.

Penly looks uncomfortable for a moment as he counts his stack while Moore stands away from the table, looking quietly confident. Penly decides to fold.

Moore shows Kc Ks.

Penly and Rigg look to be the two short stacks with about 200k each.

Paul Rigg raises to 35k from the small blind, Jamie Brown who has probably reraised at lleast two thirds of Rigg's preflop raises sets him in and once again Rigg gives it up.

Dave Penly gets a walk.

Rigg pushes and takes Mike Moore's big blind.

Andrew Teng gets a walk, play has seemingly tightened up just a tad over the last 20 minutes. Even Jamie Brown has slowed down a bit.

Mike Moore raises to 42k on the button. Paul Rigg reraises all-in for about 200k from the small blind. Moore thinks as he riffles his chips, eventually a clock gets called on him.

The Brighton man folds, showing the Ac.

Dinner break after this level.

Jamie Brown gets a walk next hand. Again!

After an aggressive start where Teng pushed a couple of times over Brown's raise it's gotten a little tighter.

Teng min-raises and Brown folds.

Next hand, Brown min-raises to 40k and Teng calls.

Ks Kd 6s

Check check.

Jh

Teng checks, Brown bets 45k. Teng calls.

5s

Teng checks, Brown bets 110k. Teng check-raises all-in. Brown snap-calls with Kc 4h but Teng has rivered the nut flush with Aspades 2s to double him up to 876k.

Blinds generally been passed around now, the only major action being when Brown bet around 50k on a K-K-6-5 turn before calling Teng's 100k reraise. Both players checked blank river and Brown cheekily showing K-5 for the house and hoping for Teng to continue to bet.

Teng -- 650k

On the river of a 5d 5h 3s 3c 7h board, it's checked to Andrew Teng who bets 40k. Brown makes the call with 9s 7d, pipping Teng's 4h 7s.

"I thought about raising," said Brown, "Mainly because it looks like I have absolute shit."

"Interesting," remarked Teng, though he doesn't sound totally convinced.

Jamie Brown minraises to 40k. Andrew (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1402) Teng (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1402) makes it 140k from the big blind. Brown moves all-in. Teng quickly calls.

Teng: Aspades Ks

Td 3d 6h

Check from Brown, Teng bets 50k, Brown calls.

Aspades

Check check.

Brown checks a third time, Teng bets 150k. Brown thinks, almost gurns a little before calling. Teng shows Jd Jc. Brown mucks

"I had a ten..." he says wistfully, "queen ten."

"Check-raise the flop" says Teng, "then this thing would be over already!"

Jamie Brown has rallied a bit over the last few hands.

1) Teng raises to 49k. (12k/24k blinds now, if you've not noticed). Brown calls and then takes the pot down on the 6d 9h 6s 8c turn with a 70k bet.

2) Brown takes the blinds with a raise to 54k.

3) Teng raises to 49k, Brown reraises to 139k and wins again.

Also, it's become distinct in the body language which way the contest is going. Andrew (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1402) Teng (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1402) does everything robotically, he plays every hand the same way, whereas Jamie Browns' suggests he is looking a bit tired again.

However that doesn't stop Brown from taking the next couple of pots.

First he checks-calls a 30k bet on a Q-2-9 board before they both check the 3 turn and 9 river. Brown shows 9-6 off, "I know you have nothing though so..." he says with a smile.

Next after Teng raises to 49k, Brown moves in, Teng folds quickly. Still a lot of play here.

A brief chat to Jamie Brown revealed he felt he played really well but that Andrew probably had a little bit more experience than him heads up, but also that if his Aces had held against Jacks he felt would've most likely beaten Mike Moore. Andrew Teng admitted he got lucky a few times over the last couple of days, including a crucial double up vs William Martin with K-9 vs J-J but also complimented Brown on how well he played the final.

Winnar!

Andrew Teng, delighted to pick up the world's bluest paperweight.

And that's everything, congrats to Andrew Teng and Jamie Brown for an exciting and fun final. The next blonde update will be from the DTD monthly at the start of November followed by the next GUKPT back up 'norf' in Blackpool. We'll see you there.

Great updates just finished reading them all, thanks to all the well wishers. Congrats to Andrew and unlucky Jamie who really dominated so much of the tournament.
