Title: Deauville main event, the story so far
Post by: AdamM on February 16, 2005, 05:30:43 PM
Tikay's still in (after two hours :o) so he's asked me do keep everyone updated.
2000 buy in. Day 1 playing down to half the field which started at 248 runners.
1 hour clock with 10,000 starting chips.
at the first break, two hours in there are 227 left.
Early casualties include;
Marcel Luske
Kevin O'Connell (trip Aces vs flush)
Julian Thew (KK vs Bambos with AA)

next break is at 7pm GMT so unless Tikay has crashed by then (hopefuly not) he'll get me more info and I'll update.

Still awaiting the chip counts from Thomas Kremser, so as it's 0400 here, looks like they gonna have to wait till the morning.

Play resumes at 1400 local time, 1300 UK. We (they?!) play down to 27 tomorrow, to 9 on Friday, & the Final is Saturday.

Great show Mel. ;)
For all of you who dont Mel.
She runs the Slough Palace Home game with her other half Eugene, and her lucky charm baby Declan.[ not to sure which 1 is the biggest baby 8)]
Anybody who was at the poker 4 charity event in Luton last week. Mel was the lady doing a great job as tournament director. Which just goes to show that good things can happen to good people.

keep it going girl ;D

Dinner break here, start again 2200 local (2100 UK).

Mel doing just great, & a lovely lady. 2 hands pre-dinner, she R'd 15k, I had AQ & passed. She had a pair, & told me she would have not passed, so a 50-50 avoided, for better or worse. Somehow I did not fancy my hand, & if she had AK I'd be in deep doo-doo.

Thanks to Adam (last night) & Simon (tonight) for the updates.

OK, gotta go, got work to do....... ;)

OK, this bit is above and beyond the call of duty....it seems Sporting Options MAY have gone into administration and there was a rescue package put together by Betfair..... here is the link....
www.sportingoptions.co.uk
I guess i ought to say here that I am not part of blondepoker so if it is wrong, do not sue blondepoker please! (or me!)
Keith, yes pushing your luck!! I wish I could say that Tikay funded my trip to France to cover this but, the harsh truth is it s being done via text message FROM tikay whilst he is playing. Is that guy a legend or what!
I am sure he will fill in the gaps when he views these messages at the end of days play. Although, maybe sleep would be a better option. When you get old, you need your sleep. (Just joking tikay!)
I will keep you updated the best I can but, I live in Greece so, it 2 hours ahead here, my bed may beckon at 4am !!

ha ha ! finally got you on something !

You are right about Sporting Options , they went to the wall , owed a lot of punters a lot of money (if you were unlucky enough to have left any with them ) and Betfair stepped in to try and help some of these unfortunates out.

O.K. I admit I was being a little bit sarcastic, but not having a go at you, you're doing a great job.

Willie got a few of his 'friends' to sign up to Sporting Options,
so it's somewhat ironic that he now wears Betfair's colours.

thanks jb.

So I take it we can all get some sleep in a little while. The remaining 18 will be back on Saturday or Sunday ?

Ooops! Didn't know that Karabiner. To be honest I only really play on PokerStars (and very rarely Party) so was not familiar with Sporting Options.
Does seem a little ironic now!
Keith, I THINK, it is Sunday down to final table with approx 2pm ish start then onto televised table. Don't quote me on that though, just seem to recall that from Copenhagen and Dublin, maybe another reader would perhaps know?

20 mins to go until we restart the last 18 - tikay is pacing around the room like a caged lion, he knows what he has to on a very chip heavy table.
mel & willie are on the other table which only has two stacks over 100k - the play will be pretty cagey on there.
they play down to the final eight this afternoon, i will try & update as much as poss before the 1000 event starts (in 2 hrs) - it's a good 15 min round trip from the card room to the bedroom & back again but i could do with the exercise.
i met bob coombes for the first time last night - what a lovely fella, he looks a shoe-in along with the camel to final in good shape.
i have a vested interest in 2 players, 2x5%'s - Come On Boys!

15 mins in, 4 gone.
mel moved her short 50k in with A3 but the BB woke up with AK
tikay stole a hefty 24k of blinds & antes with a 10-7, but on the next hand when bob coombes brought it in for 30k UTG tony tried to create his rush by moving 76k in with A-10 - the SB then decided that A-Q must be in front & moved for 150k & wasn't going anywhere with his KK.
bob must now have a quarter of the chips in play.
a thin french guy with an i-pod was next out - this guy took a minute to act on every hand, i doubt he'll be missed.

my bad, it was bob who wasn't going away with KK.

oh yeah, & devilfish won the 300NL adding another 37k to 30k of til-fodder he had in his pocket

Just spoke to Willie. He says he went out with 10,10 against A3 but I couldn't quite follow what happened. He wasn't too chatty. I think the blinds were 1500/3000 and the geezer moved in with A3 for 130,000. WT called for about 120,000 with 10,10. All seems a bit mad with these blinds - are these figures right?

Also any news of Keith and Bob?

Title: Re: Deauville main event, the story so far
Post by: TightEnd on February 18, 2005, 02:35:30 PM
at the beginning of the day the blinds were 5k/10k with a 1.5k ante, so c27k in each pot to start

hence the tikay/mel lofthouse's with 50k had to stick it in reasonably quickly!

ok, after nearly 4 hours of play we have a tv table - i don't have a list but can tell you that bob coombes is in with a little under 200k.
he took a bad beat when an 80k stack moved with Q-4 & bob found 8-8 in the SB.
the young american(?) justin who got close in copenhagen got the 9th place finishers chips in a battle of the blinds - both were short with 30ish each after posting, the SB moved with Q-5 & justin wasn't gonna pass up a shot at a 120k stack with A-8.
best hand won for a change.
the camel was crippled when he moved on the buttton with 7-7 & the BB made a big call with A-J, keith couldn't survive & finished a disappointing 10th - an hour later, beer in hand & he's in good spirits.
it was one of those days for mike lacey, but 5400 for 12th has eased the pain - sam, the holdem100 qualifier finished 13th & was happy with 4500 for his biggest ever draw - well played.
a young oriental guy looks have the chip lead with over 700k - i'll have all the names & counts later.

more excitement here in deauville - on his second overseas tour nottinghams 'bookie jim' takes down the 139 runner 1000NL freeze-out.
final table play began at 4am, devilfish & isobelle fell early & at 6.30am with 5 left a deal was tabled, jim taking 26k, the other 4 (including a certain mr w.tann) scooping a nice round 20k. top result jim!
mrs moult has been informed, luckily she was sitting down.

just wanted to say a big thank you to you all for giving our Slough palace players a running commentary on the EPT Deauville

It was a great tournament and was great to meet Tikay, Julian, Mike "LuckyBlind", XPham, Vicky and countless of other players

I can honestly say had a great time over there, and now hoping to be at Vienna :)

I'll do my trip report in next couple of days for you

Mel xx

Thanks Mel - it was really terrific to meet you & Eugene, & what a great effort by you both in the biggie.

As for the running updates, as you know, usu-able internet connections in Deauville were almost non-existent, so the thanks for the updates really belong to Adam (Adam M) & Simon (jbsc7769) who were simply marvellous at this end. Thanks also to Julian in Deauville. Our plans all went wrong, 'cos he exited early, & tikay went deep (all week in fact), so Julian was doing his best to do updating as well.

Now, get yourself entered for Vienna!
