The first three hands on each table saw no on-their-backs moments 1) because many players are still plenty deep enough to wriggle through flops, turn and rivers and 2) because each time a short stack moved in, the larger ones declined to call.

One of those times Andrew Booth moved all in over a 4k Alan Stearn raise for 28k.  Stearn (who'd only just arrived, slightly on the late side) thought, said, "I have a pair, do you think I should call?" then passed 5d 5h face up admitting, "It's too early, innit?"

The next hand on that table Jeff Sharpe moved his tiny stack (<10k) all in pre, snapped by Billy Ngo in the small blind with Qh Qc.  Sharpe's 7h 8h missed while Ngo made a house to go with his Queens and we're down to 26.

David Nisbet limps for 1,200. Alan Stearn pops it up to 5,000 and Billy Ngo makes it 13,000. The blinds and Nisbet fold and the chip leader makes the call.

Js Kd 6d

Stearn quickly moves all-in, Ngo looks perplexed for a split second before saying, "Have you flopped trips?....Call." He flips Ahrt Ac. Stearn shows Aspades Ks

Billy Ngo now just shy of 100k and the chip leader., Stearn down to 80k.

Stearn Gets Small Chunk Back -

A multiway pot gets heads up on the turn as it checks round to Billy Ngo who bets 6,500 looking at 3s 2h 6d 4c.  Alan Stearn quickly check-raises to 20k even, the third guy passes and Ngo thinks about it for a while before giving up the pot, showing the Ad.

"That's no good is it?" fairly chortles Stearn, before adding, ominously, "Now you only owe me about another 50."

Title: Re: DTD Monthly £300 - Day 2

Rick Trigg raises to 3,200 from the button. Christopher Bushell in the big blind reraises to 10,200. After carefully studying the remaining 18k or so his opponent has, Trigg calls only to fold to a push on an Ad 7h 9h board.

Title: Re: DTD Monthly £300 - Day 2
Post by: Djinn on November 02, 2008, 03:33:24 PM
Limp limp limp (B, sb, bb).  Flop: 9d 8c 3d.  Christopher Bushell checks, Pete Singleton checks, the Button checks.
Turn: Tc Check to Pete who bets 2,200, called by the button.
River: Low Club.  Pete checks now and then sees a bet of 7k come at him (about half his opponent's stack).  He stares, thinks and eventually makes the call with two pair: 3c 9h.  The button flashes the 5h, mucks, and next time we pass the table he is no longer at it.
___________________________________________________

Elsewhere Dave Penly has just arrived, and no sooner is he through the door than he's raising to 3,500, only to pass when Mark Gogerty promptly pushes for 15,700.

Raise from Daniel Ward to 3,500. Harpit Gurnham calls before Rick Trigg makes an almost min-raise to 7,800. Ward thinks before pushing his remaining 14k in the middle. Gurnham is in a spot knowing he can't call because Trigg will move in. He ends up folding what he says was A-Q.

Trigg: Qh Qs
Ward: 7h 7s

5h 7d 5c Ad 2d

Ward is back up to 40k, Trigg takes another hit.

A good, slow hike upwards for Richard Rudling-Smith has ended in a disastrous plunge through Busto Gorge...

He had worked his way up to around 16,000 before this happened:  He raised with Ts Td preflop, one caller (the big blind, Antonio Dicesare).  The flop: 9c 7d 5c.
All in!  About 13,500 to call into a pot of 8k...and he gets one.  Expecting a draw to dodge, he was pretty happy to see Aspades 5h in Dicesare's hand, but not when the Ace hit.  Now he's a bit frustrated.  And out.

Here's the very moment where Mark Lewis has moved all in on the river against Waheed Ashraf, having calmly but quickly check-called all the way down.  Ashraf bet 8k on the 8d 6d 6h flop, 8k on the 8s turn, but then faced the rest of Lewis's stack - 24k when the Td came on the river.  He dwelled and asked "Have you got Kings?" for some reason before letting it go.

Double ;bp; news.

First Dave Penly finds himself having to call an extra 14k or so on top of his 14k raise on a 2c 3c Ts flop vs Jason Wong. The 50k or so in the pot obviously swinging the decision for Dave's 6s 6d which needed runner runner against Jason's Th Tc. He couldn't get there though.

Next and another big pot was being played by Pete Singleton and Garinder Purewal on a Kh Jc Qs flop. It looked as though Pete Singleton had put in almost 30k of his stack and was contemplating folding for the remaining 25k or so after Garinder had moved all-in. After some serious thought Singleton did fold leaving his opponent, who has chopped this event twice, to boost his stack toward the upper echleons of the chip lead with something approaching 100k now.

He's hanging in there, taking inspiration in the matter of respect-inspiring militaryesque dress and posture from such leaders as General George Crook.  So far it's worked - he's taken a few Penly chips and looks like a final contender for sure.

Gl Trigg

Looks like you're buying the beers.

Trigg is OUT.

First, Paul Garnham limped the button and Trigg made up with 4d 2d.

On a K-Q-3, Trigg took a stab, the big blind folded but Garnham called, both checked the Ace on the turn, and then a 5 appeared on the river, where Trigg now bet his concealed wheel, Garnham moved in and Trigg called, only for Garnham to show the FACT-ually ahead J-T for Broadway.

Trigg left with fumes, which went in with Q-5 vs Purewal's T-4 which spiked a ten.

Mike Millar also looks to have been eliminated.

Chris Bushell is OUT - pictured here on the left next to Pete Singleton, while still in:

One hand did most of the damage - he was check-called by Daniel Ward on a board of 9c 5s Ac Qc when he bet 2,500, and then when the river came a 3d, Ward checked to him again.  He bet 11k.  Back to Ward, who came to the right decision in the end, calling with just 8c 8d.  "You win," said Bushell, mucking his hand as his bluff was picked off.

Then he found the perfectly reasonable 7s 7c to move in with preflop, but he was called by Ward again who'd picked up 9d 9h which developed into a house (the board came Q-4-4-9-8) for good measure.  Not his afternoon.

                          ouch

Mark Stafford just busted in circumstances in which he was probably quite reasonably expecting to get a nice double up plus some... After a standard raise and button call, small blind Dave Penly moved all in.  Big blind Stafford was quick to follow suit, and this got rid of both other contenders for the pot.

"Anyone have an Ace?" asked Stafford as he fllipped Ks Kh, and saw Penly's squeezy Ac 5c.

No reply, and straight away the flop came 8h 4c Aspades.  "How do you do it?" ruefully asked Stafford as the turn and river bricked leaving him heading for the rail.

Antonio Dicesare has knocked out another player, sadly we don't know who because we've not got any seating plan type stuff for today. Anyway Discesare flipped Aspades Ac against the shorty's Jh Js and after a comprehensive 5c 5h Kh 8c 6s board we're down to 16 players.

Big pot between Antonio Dicesare and Daniel Ward, the latter had bet 20k on the turn of a 8d Tc Kc Qh which Dicesare called, before announcing he was checking in the dark on the river.

The Ahrt came and Ward checked behind showing a set of tens, Discesare had pipped him on the river with Jd Jc but it begs the question why he would ever want to check in the dark there in case his straight came?

On the former of the two Mark Lewis has lost a decent chunk of chips, calling a raise from Jason Wong before both checked the Qh 2s 2c flop. Lewis check/called 6k on the 9h and then 12k on the 9s river only to muck when Wong showed Td 9c for the house. Oh it's all gone Wong for Lewis... ::)

Interesting hand.

Gurpreet Nagi limps for 2.4k, it's passed to Alan Stearn who moves all-in for about 64k, Antonio Dicesare folds Tens face up to blinds Daniel Ward and Billy Ngo and Nagi also folds.

Daniel Ward is now also very short, in a limped pot with Nagi and Paul Garnham, Ward check/raised Nagi's 5k bet to 12k on a 3s Qs 8h 7c board before both checked the 3s river. Nagi's 9-7 was good. Ward just on 30k.

Waheed (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1690) Ashraf (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1690) busts in 13th place... (having had it all go wrong bit by bit today, Penly took the last of his stack)

Meaning it's the BUBBLE.

Three of our contenders count as dangerously short:

Paul (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=324) Garnham (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=324) - 23k
Adrian Swingler - 21k
Daniel (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=2259) Ward (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=2259) - 28k

The pressure is on them most of all, but we're hovering around both tables just in case, like bubble-hungry vultures.

And here's the more crucial hand which sent Ashraf spinning gently towards the exit - I got this story straight from the horse's mouth...

Adrian Swingler limped utg, Ashraf limped with Ahrt 3h on the button, the blinds came in too.  The flop brought him bottom pair on a J-9-3 board, and everyone checked.
The turn brought an Ace - that's two pair for the slow of calculation - and now when it checked round he fired 20k.  This chunky bet was called only by Swingler.
The river: another Nine.  Now Swingler bet out 20k.  "I had to call," says Ashraf, "If he's got an Ace, the Jack might mean we chop it..." but no - it was 9c Tc in his opponent's hand and the loss of that 50k pretty much busted him.

Dave Penly and Garinder Purewal spar despite the bubble. Penly raising to aroud 8k and Purewal making the call from the button.

Ks 6s Kc

Penly bets 12k. Call.

Td

Penly bets 16k, Garinder asks how much he's playing. "95k is the reply." Garinder decides to just call.

Qc

Penly checks, Garinder decides to check behind. Penly shows Ahrt Kd which is good as Purewal mucks what I think was Jacks.

An interesting hand between Billy Ngo and Gurpreet Nagi now - a flop of Ad 3h 5h saw little action, but when the 9h popped up on the turn, Ngo check-raised Nagi 11k.  A little think later, and Nagi moved all in.  Another 60k was too much for Ngo to call with just the Kh he showed, but Nagi had flopped the nuts with 2h 4c...

Title: Re: DTD Monthly £300 - Day 2
Post by: NoflopsHomer on November 02, 2008, 06:52:23 PM
We've lost two players in one hand, one from each table.

First, Gurpreet Nagi raised to 8.5k and Pete Singleton shoved for about 26k. Nagi was compelled to call with A-8 against Singleton's K-K and managed to spike an Ace. On the other table, Adrian Swingler has managed an good comeback, first doubling with K-J vs Wong's 7-7. Then he just eliminated Thomas Gibson at the same time as Singleton's exit, with 9-9 vs 7-7.

This means we'll be having an 8-handed final table. Gibson I believe will get 9th place though we think as he started off with about 2k more chips than Singleton who'll have to be content with 10th place.

The final table is being set up now, chip counts and photos to follow.

Anyway, it's been a good start for Dave Penly, he reraised Gurpreet Nagi's 11k raise to 40k and the latter called, before shoving the 8-5-2 flop. Penly quickly called with Queens which stayed good ahead of Nagi's Sixes. Penly up to about 280k Nagi down to the felt.

Billy Ngo limps the button, and then bets 7k on a Aspades 5c Kd flop after the blinds, Stearn and Swingler both check.

It's been very cautious to tell the truth, a little slow and underwhelming to be honest.

A couple of hands later, Dave Penly raises the button to 12k and Purewal calls from the small blind.

Stearn raises to 18k from the cut-off. Garinder Purewal reraises to 63k from the small blind. Stearn asks for a count and Purewal has about 120k or so behind.

Stearn declares his intentions, "I'm either going to reraise all-in or fold, I've got a pair," which seems like he's giving away his hand too easily. Eventually deciding discretion is the better part of valour, he folds. "Good bet" said Stearn.

Jason Wong raises to 20k from UTG and takes the blinds.

Dave Penly shoves from the cutoff and takes the blinds.

Purewal limps in, Ngo makes up the small blind and Stearn checks.

Ks 8s 2s

Stearn bets 20k after Ngo checks, the other two fold. Stearn shows Kd.

Antonio Dicesare raises to 20k, Adrian Swingler moves all-in for about 90k total. There's the traditional, "Do you want me to call?" banter which always tends to indicate a fold. Dicesare flashes the Ac before he mucks.

Dave Penly pushes, takes the blinds.

Antonio Dicesare raises to 20k straight after to do the same.

The aggression here is very balanced, despite the disparity in chips, no-one is clearly dominating the table. It might be a case of waiting for a couple of levels until the blinds force people to up the stakes a little. I can't remember a DTD final having this many players for this long.

Garinder Purewal has taken a couple of knocks in the last few minutes, twice he's raised 25k but had to fold to reraises from other players. Both him and Billy Ngo have slowed down somewhat, Ngo only has about 120k now so a raise could commit him.

Wong and Swingler are still pushing to survive while the big stacks Stearn and Dicesare perhaps aren't showing enough aggression to really put the squeeze on the other stacks.

Purewal, "I really want to get four handed, because then I can really play with these guys," he pointed to Wong and Ngo as the two players he rated the most on the table.

Next hand and Billy Ngo raises to 20k from UTG, Alan Stearn moves all-in, declaring, "I'm not passing a pair this time."

Back to Billy who says, "I have to call," he shows Ahrt Ks.

Stearn triumphantly flips Ad Ac. "I said I had a pair!"

Which means the tournament has come to a slightly abrupt ending.

Incidentally, the taxi-puking affair was some of the most discreet vomiting I have ever seen, largely owing to my quick thinking with a bottle of water, a plastic bag and a wad of toilet paper. Lame deal!!!!  WTF?!

what were the chip counts at the time of the deal?

It was about to go 5k/10k/1k. Garinder had about 145k, Swingler about the same, Wong had a little bit more and Dicesare and Stearn had about 325k each.

I would have expected you to take it down quite easily with your chip stack after the QQ vs 66....!

GG though.

+1

30+ big blinds for the top 2, small stack on 14 big blinds and they don't want to play on?

Still I suppose they all got paid nicely. Happy days.

WP everyone.

That was the plan but Mr Stearne had other ideas when he insta donk shoved over the top of my 2.5*BB UTG raise with AJ off for 26*BB if my KK had held i'd of had nearly half a million chips with 6 left. Sigh.

I see, just went through the rest of the tournament history.

He was putting me badly on tilt. Everytime I would raise, and most times when I would limp, he would just shove his massive stack the whole way through the tournament! I guess the hand on the final table when I had AK was just too much for me, and I obviously went mental with my 66!
