Title: Bluesq.com GUKPT Grand Final - Day 1b
Post by: JungleCat03 on November 28, 2008, 12:17:15 PM
We're back!

Day 1a provided a veritable feast of poker that saw online legend Chris Moorman ascend to the summit of the leaderboard by the end of the day and football legend and recent GUKPT Luton winner Tony Cascarino lurking not too far behind.

Fireworks aplenty are expected today too. Numbers are unconfirmed as yet. There are 70 pre-registered to turn up and with last minute registrations thrown into the mix, we could see this rise to over 100.

With the prize pool swelling attractively, we can't wait to see who will join the current throng at the top as another classic GUKPT run-in beckons. With thrills, spills, big hands, outdraws, anguish, joy and pwnage promised, we intend to bring every twist and turn on the road to crown the GUKPT GF champion.

Not forgetting Dana's unique "Of The Days" of course!

Glory and riches beckon...

Timeliness is the watchword (see what I did there?) and we expect cards to be in the air in less than ten minutes, although not all seats will have players in them yet.  The weather is truly dreadful, and there's honestly nothing better to do so come on players with a little spare cash - you can still get here in time to buy in!  You could even get here from Paris if you took the Eurostar in 20 minutes.  Last chance for a GUKPT title...

The £3k buy-in has attracted the creme of the English and Irish pros and there are some juicy tables out there.

The first table greeting us as we made the circuitous journey from the Vic Press Room was that containing double GUKPT-winner Julian (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=225) Thew (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=225), Liam "The Gentleman" Flood, Stuart "Foxy" Fox and EPT Supremo John (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=209) Duthie (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=209), who has put no less than 7 people on AQ or pocket Tens so far.

Not to be outdone, their neighbouring table has a ring of star quality to it boasting such players as seasoned pro "Maltese" Joe (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=205) Grech (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=205), Simon "Aces" Trumper, Ali "Any Two" Mallu, Rob (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=381) Garfield (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=381).

Only James "Flushy" Dempsey, fresh from an unsuccessful tilt at the CPC is letting the table down in terms of celebrity. I jest of course. It's been quite a year for Flushy so far and if he can translate some of his online form into live success, he will be a threat for the title.

Already two of the players on this table have clashed. More on this shortly...

Thew crippled by duthies 10-3

Yes, I'm not sure what happened in the early stages of that hand, but I got there in time to see Duthie all in and Julian calling, the board reading Td 7s 6c 3s 5h.

Duthie: Th 3d
Thewy: Kc Kd

Like I said, not sure how this came to pass, but that's how it ended up. Duthie had somehow dropped down to around 8k before that hand, though, so he's now on 16k while Julian is not quite crippled exactly but definitely down, on around 6.5k.

The Duthster:

What Julian thinks of all this:

Said tablemate Liam Flood: "Thanks Julian, for looking after my friend..."

Dana was on hand during this early excitement, but before they'd even got going I snapped tablemates Liam Flood, Stuart Fox (here giving his autograph to some guy on the rail) and Julian Thew, all smiles and relaxation.

In fact, the atmosphere today seems a lot less glum - check out Nick Jenkins and Marty Smith giggling like schoolgirls after just 10 minutes' play.  Everywhere emotions are being freely expressed, while chips cautiously enter pots with few showdowns.

Yes, early on Simon Trumper raises it up from early position and Rob Garfield and Flushy call...

The flop comes 5s 6h 5c, Simon leads for 525 and only Rob calls...

The turn is the 9s...

Check, check.

RIVER: 6c

1,250 from Simon, called by Rob, who shows K-K as Simon mucks, acknowledging Rob's slyly played pair of cowboys with a "well played!"

Flushy proudly claims he raised 6 hands in a row at one point and picked up the blinds every time.

"Nice chip accumulation" I tell him as he paraded his 15,400 stack before me.

Fold to Nichlas Mattsson on the button, who has the unenviable job of nicking the blinds of both John Duthie and Jeff Burke.  Valiantly, he gave it a shot, raising to 150, called immediately by Duthie, and then raised by Burke to 550.  He made the call, as did the EPT magnate with the newly-doubled-through-Julian stack.

The flop: Tc 4d 9h  Check to the raiser, who bet 1,700 immediately, which won him the pot.

"That's the second bluff you've done..." speculates Liam Flood.
"No," interjects John Duthie, "If I'd've called that would have been a bluff."  For some reason much hilarity ensues.

Duthie and Burke pictured pre-hilarity

Sad news!

Amazingly it looks like the first casualty of the day is none other than the only man to have picked up two GUKPT titles, Julian Thew.

Crippled by that hand against John Duthie, Julian was probably looking for a spot to accumulate quickly and when he flopped top pair, top kicker with A-K on a Ks 6d 7s board he was happy to get it in, although his opponent held a massive draw with 4s 5s.

The flush came in and that spelt the end of Julian's tournament.

SHOCKING!

Meanwhile, in non-Thew related news, we have no fewer than two Romanellos on a single table, Roberto looking like he could do with a nap, Anthony looking like he could do with the attention of the waitress. Looks like when they both perk up we might be treated to some hot Romanello-on-Romanello action. Something for the ladies to look forward to, then.

Pab has an interesting table with another very solid line-up facing him.

Sat all in a row are Jon "Skalie" Kalmar, 2007 WSOP ME finalist, Roberto (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=376) Romanello (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=376), who has a very good record at the GUKPT, Padraig (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=690) Parkinson (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=690) and Pab.

With Roberto and Padraig likely to be chewing the ears of anyone who will listen throughout the day, it's no wonder the dealer was complaining he'll be suffering from earache before long!

I would just like to say that that is the bloodshot, dark circled eye of someone suffering from two months' worth of 8am building work involving a high-pitched grinding noise making instrument which when applied to the outside of one's bedroom windows interrupts sleep with probably the most efficiency of any power tool.  I am borderline between taking pot shots at the builders with an air rifle thereby discouraging this habit or getting up and helping them in order to facilitate their speedy withdrawal.  Either way the players are just lazy.  I have an excuse for my blank morning stare.

What's his excuse?

Zahour of Bewilderbeast:

"Clock!" calls Samer George, attracting a floorperson and a smattering of press.  He's not in the hand - the decision is actually up to Mohammed Zahour, who faces calling for his tournament life on a flop of 7h 4s 9h - but he says, "He called time on me so I'm doing one back," just in case anyone on the rail were to judge this decision unfavourably.

Anyway, it looked like Zahour had raised preflop, been reraised by LHS neighbour Adam Stoneham, and called - then they'd got to the flop, he'd bet and then been raised all in.  After the pot had been straightened, there was 12,500 in there and it was going to cost him the rest of his stack if he made the call.

"Thirty seconds..." Still Zahour deliberated.

"Ten.." Suddenly the stack was over the line, his Jd Jc was over, and he was scowling at Stoneham's Ac Ad.  Two Kings gave the both of them two pair, but Aces up took that tidy pot and busted the third player to leave the event so far.

Flushy has been busy in the early levels.

First off he called a raise from David Rudling with 6h 8h only to flop the absolute lot when it fell 4s 5c 7c. MBN.

Flushy led for 700 and was flatted, only for the turn to fall the 9c. Not so nice...

He led again for 1,200, only this time David check-raised to 3.1k. Dempsey's not a folder though and he called...

The river was the 5h so now everything's got there and David snap-bet out 6,625. Flushy said "I can't really pass there" so he called and David mucked his hand.

So Flushy was up to around 31k after that hand and a few more pots later, he played out another cracker...

Simon (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=400) Trumper (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=400) popped it up from early position and was flatted in 2 spots before James (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=186) Dempsey (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=186) also called.

The flop fell Jh 9c 2c and after Flushy checked, Simon led out for 1025, only to be called by James.

The turn was the 7c and now Flushy led for 3.1k. Simon looked in two minds here but ultimately lifted his stack up and moved in, only to be insta-called by James who held Kc Jc for the 2nd nut flush.

Simon shook his head, ruefully tabling J-J for top set and when the Ahrt fell on the river, the board hadn't paired, Simon (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=400) Trumper (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=400) had been knocked out and Flushy gave him an "unlucky Simon" as he left the table.

That hand makes Flushy the chip leader at this stage with approximately 40k.

Turns out he's not as gorm-less as he looks!

An interesting one sees the exit of Michael Denton (it's been a veritable bustfest compared to yesterday - we're still only at the 50/100 blind level)...

On table Andrew Bradshaw (he's quite a talker, and a standerupper etc.) there's been a lot of banter, including another few minutes of hysterical laughter early doors from Martin Green at something Bradshaw did (I overheard the words "Weasel" and "Slowroll") this huge pot somehow developed.

Threeway to a 4d 8d 3h flop, Denton checked in the small blind, mid position raiser Frode Gjesdal bet 675, Bradshaw raised to 1,500, and then Denton ch-re-raised to 3,000 straight.  Eyebrows furrowed on all sides.  Gjesdal passed, and Bradshaw launched into what was basically a monologue:

"What you got?  You show if I fold?"
"Yeah."
"You show if I fold... What've you got Tell me Are you drawing diamonds I call."  All of this without pausing long enough for an answer to come through.

Turn: 3d.  Denton bet out 5,000.  Immediately Bradshaw shoved his whole stack over the line.

"I'm committed," said Denton in reply to this, calling all in.  Bradshaw showed his housed-up 4c 4h.
Denton showed Ad 8c.
The river was not an Eight and therefore immaterial.

Good luck Sheriff, chip updates pls!

13,975 exactly 10 mins ago... and in fine form.  Looks at least 45% more awake than the majority of the field.  Mainly talking about Argos and Christmas Shopping and his new hat, though (we like the hat).

As a special treat for everyone at the Vic today, we are honoured with a rare wild sighting of an endangered species, the lesser cardiganed Devil Fish. He was most recently spotted calling a bet from Mohammed (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1102) Zahour (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1102) on a Kh Ahrt 4h flop. Both players checked the 5h turn and when Zahour checked the 7d river too, Devilfish bet 1.3k. Zahour called. Devilfish turned over Ac Qd... and was delighted to discover that he was beating Zahour's Ad Js. "Fucking hell, I thought I was bluffing!" said the Fish. "Taxi!"

Adam Stoneham looks happy:

I am the only blonde updater privileged enough to be on the floor currently, but we share requests and you would not believe how eager Junglecat is to bring you a picture of Mr. Egan.  However, seeing as they are just returning from a break, and it takes him 10 minutes to get to the press room, just hold the horses a brief while and you shall receive.

More chip counts!  Apart from Peter Gould passing what he said was a house on a 4s 8c Ks Qs Kc river after being check-raised all in most daringly I didn't see any eye-opening hands in the last round so I just counted chips.  They're moving around at a slightly higher rate than yesterday, so expect some big clashes in the next two levels.  Hopefully I'll be there to see them.

Skalie - 13,000
Maz Nawab - 14,000
Ram Vaswani - 11,000
Joe Grech - 17,200
Sunny Chattha - 26,000
Flushy - 30,000  Annoyed that someone with a bigger stack has arrived on his table
Stuart Fox - 13,250
Neil Channing - 18,200  Talking about 'bubble insurance' already
Ali Mallu - 13,750
Priyan de Mel - 9,800
Martin Green - 19,500
Devilfish - 16,000
The Camel - 25,500
Allinstevie - 11,000

Terminator Eye of the Day

Fran Egan.

Not even red-eye could solve the problem of his laser eye. Is it a problem though? I'm due to have laser-eye surgery soon and I'm looking forward to being able to cook food just by looking at it as well as having the ability to blast my enemies when required. Fran's just had the one eye done but it's a good look imo.

Notice Curtis Ledger blonde's own Sheriff lurking in the foreground too.

Mr Nik "Persuad" Persaud is on a whopping 40k already, much of this due to him betting out 2 or 3k on an Ad Kh 6d 4c board and then calling when Brian Gilbert raised him all in.

Persaud: lookin' gooood with Ahrt Kd
Gilbert: in a spot of bother with Kc Tc

River: Ac

Mr Gilbert a-busto:

That photo of Nik Persaud is definitely out of date - his stack has rocketed up over 40k in the last level and he's taking down a good number of small pots.  Just now he got heads up against Nathan Lee after reraising preflop out of the big blind to just over 700.  I think a third potential flop seer decided to back out at this point, but Lee called the reraise and they saw Ad Ac 9d pop out.  Nik checked straight away, and the button followed suit.

Turn: Kh  Such potential for raisers and re-raisers... Persaud bets 700, Lee raises to 1,700, Persaud calls.  All of this done with the minimum dwell/fuss but about 10 seconds of piercing stare from beneath hoody hood on the part of Nik.

River 2d:  Persaud checks, Lee bets 2,200 pretty quickly.  He calls just as quickly and is rewarded with a muck and flashes his K-x where X is between 6 and 8 to take the pot.

An interesting hand from Table Flushy a little while ago (ie. before fish pie appeared and I got distracted).

Ali Mallu limped in for 150, as did Flushy. Richard Stanley made an enormous raise to 1,300, and Ali Mallu then made an even enormous-er limp-reraise to 4,500. Flushy, despite his gormless appearance, did the sensible thing and folded.

They saw an 8d Qc 9s flop, and Mallu open-shoved for 10k. After some minutes of torture, Stanley passed Kc Ks face up. Most unusual.

More chips for Mallu.

Sunny Chattha checked the turn of a 6s Ahrt Tc 8d board, and then called 2k from Mallu.

He checked again on the Ad river, and then called 2.6k. Mallu turned over the Aspades and appeared to be waiting for Sunny to muck; Sunny did not muck so he turned over the 8s as well for a full house. Sunny nodded and showed the Ac, mucking the other card.

Diary of Pab

Pab has around 27k at the moment, although according to the pair of Romanellos he is sharing the table with..."He got an early christmas present for that....hasn't played a hand since."

Pab though is fighting his corner with some aggressive rhetoric.

"Once the antes kick in I might play a few hands."

I can bring you up to date with Dave Callaghan's progress, as well as news of an exit.

Jeff Kimber was relatively short but still had around 6-7k or so to his name which he moved all-in preflop, following some action (possibly a button raise.)

Dave Callaghan now ummed and ahhed checking his hole cards a few times before making the call, holding A-Q.

He was in trouble versus the pocket ladies nestling in Jeff's hole cards, but once an Ace hit the flop, Jeff had already pulled his coat on, not expecting to hit a one outer.

Miss it he did and another former GUKPT winner bites the dust while Callaghan was boosted up to 30k or thereabouts.

Michael Hill was just eliminated in pretty harsh fashion by Robert Boon after a preflop raisefest led to an autoallin after the flop...

But to back up - Dinh Le raised to 600 preflop, reraised by Boon to 2,100.  Over to Hill who fourbet to the tune of 5,200 - exactly half his stack.  Le was no longer interested, but Boon called.

Flop: Qh 2h 3d.  Straight away Hill moved all in for 5,200.  After a very brief think, Boon called.  On their backs!
Hill: Ad Kd
Boon: Ac Kh

Turn: 4h

River:  6h

And an unlikely running fourflush sends Boon out with a bang.
ouch!

Another exit.

Joe Grech has just been Mallu-ed.

He made a big raise preflop with Q-Q, only to find a willing caller in Ali.

The flop fell jack high with two clubs and when Joe bet out 2.2k and Ali made it 5k, Joe moved all-in, called by Ali with Kc Tc for the flush draw.

The Queen on the turn gave Joe top set but also opened up a straight draw possibility and incredibly the 9h fell on the river to complete Mallu's straight and eliminate Joe.

That pot has fired Any Two Mallu up the leaderboard with what is likely to be 35-40k now.

We are down to a single Romanello in today's field, after he got it most of his chips in on a coinflip.

Antoni raised to 500 from the button and Maz Nawab called from the small blind - but big blind Abed Eid reraised all in for around 11k. Romanello took some time about it, but eventually reshoved for not much more. Maz folded, and they were on their backs.

Romanello: Js Jc
Eid: Aspades Qc

"If you wanna win, you've gotta call," philosophized the Welshman. Indeed, but a queen on the flop and a notable lack of jacks or any other of Antoni's outs on the board meant that he was down to just 1,450.

All in the next hand, he was ahead with A-Q against Padraig Parkinson's 3-5 suited, but a five on the board, and he was heading for the rail. Chances of a Romanello win at this tournament = noticeably slimmer than earlier today.

Flushy was looking smug about this so I almost couldn't bring myself to write it, but it was pretty entertaining so here goes:

Sunny Chattha limps in late position (for 200).  Small blind Ali Mallu raises to 700.  Big blind James Dempsey calls.  So does Chattha.
Flop: 4c Ts 3s  Check from the preflop raiser, so Flushy bets 1,200.  Chattha folds, but Mallu ch-raises by a further 3,600.  Undaunted, Flushy calls.
Turn: 7h  Mallu checks again, Flushy makes a (weak, or 'seeming weak' I get so confused sometimes) 4,200 bet and Mallu passes what he says was Eights.
Flushy shows him the 2d which apparently had a 3d to go with it.  His neighbour punches him on the arm and says, "You just can't help yourself can you?"

And it was Flushy who admitted his pwning to me just a moment ago.

Jim Moult just popped it up to 600 on the button, called by Mallu, before Flushy re-popped to 1,800, holding 9-T.

Back to Jim he now repopped it  to 4.5k, only for Flushy and Mallu to both fold.

Jim showed T-8 in a slick re-move.

"Why couldn't he have J-8! I was dominating him. Sick!" said Flushy jovially as Jim laughed heartily at getting one over on him.

The Sheriff raised preflop, which involved announcing a bet which I think was 1,200 and throwing in his last remaining 5k chip (his total stack around 6k).  Over to Svanes who reraised to 3,600 and before you could say, "Race!" he was all in and called.  Sheriff's 7d 7s vs. Svanes' Ahrt Kd.  The Kh came straight away on the flop, and with no more drama we're down another blonde and to 68 players in total.

Elsewhere, 15 minutes of action haven't resulted in that many big swings of chips, but some shorter stacks are starting to get a little frisky with the re-raise all in... like David McConnon who shoved over a Rob (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=382) Sherwood (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=382) preflop raise to 775.  Not even Neil (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=302) Channing (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=302) immediately saying, "You took my move away!" could persuade Sherwood to make the call, however, and he passed, leaving his stack of just under 30k intact.

McConnon couldn't have hit much of a better flop though, seeing as he held the mega-draw 6s 3s and as the 7c hit the turn leaving Ashworth's previously dominant pair of Kings looking weak, miserable and draw-deady.

McConnon was not in the mood for sympathy though, punching the air as his straight came in on the turn in somewhat unsportsmanlike fashion whilst a miserable looking Ashworth counted out the large dent in his stack.

Double Up for Glenn Ashworth pretty soon thereafter - apparently having learnt well how low suited connectors kick the crap out of large pocket pairs, he called a Rob Sherwood preflop raise with 4h 5h and smacked the 7h Qh 9h flop square on the jaw.  Bet out from Sherwood, raise from Ashworth, reraise all in from Sherwood, brief pause, call.

Sherwood held the Ad Aspades and as soon as the turn came a safe 2s Ashworth relaxed and prepared to stack his chips which now totalled 40k again.  Meanwhile Rob Sherwood down to 7,700.

Neil (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=302) Channing (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=302) has around 16k at the moment and he drew me aside for a moment for what I assumed was a hand or two but no.

Instead he went on to sing the praises of Thomas Bichon, a Corsican player who he has become very familiar with in recent times.

"He came over for the London EPT and he's stayed here ever since! He doesn't play many tournaments but he's an excellent cash game player. He's been winning the lot! He's also very funny, whenever he wins a decent pot, he's always saying, 'You know, back home in Corsica, this is a lot of money!' Watch out for him..."

Ah, what does Neil (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=302) Channing (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=302) know about picking out decent players?

On the same table as the Ashwood/Sherwood/McConnon combo is the calmly confident Channing, whose idiosyncratic chortle can be heard from right across the room.  Chatty as anything, his table seems to be having fun despite the continual movement of large amounts of chips from stack to stack.  Not so much action through his stack from what I see, however - I reckon no-one's noticed though the amount he's talking.

Just now Fran Egan raised under the gun, and small blind Nathan Lee called, inviting Channing in with, "You're going to join the party..."
"I'm going to be in it," confirmed Neil, "It's just a question of whether I bring a bottle."  In the end that translated to reraising a further 4,200, enough to get rid of both his opponenets.  Lee flashed him the 6s 6c before passing.  Channing's Verdict:  "That's third.  He has the second best hand and I have the best hand."  It sure did look like that, as he flashed Queens...

Everyone is glad of the ice cream, but it could have been a little less intrusive. Padraig (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=690) Parkinson (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=690) moved all in on the river of a 4s 7s 2h Qd 8d board, and while Abed Eid was deciding whether or not to call, the tension was broken by a waitress hollering over that anyone who wanted ice cream should raise their hand. "How many flavours?" piped up Roberto (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=376) Romanello (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=376) while Padraig on his immediate left tried really hard to ignore him. Eventually Eid folded. Everyone got ice cream.

Sunny Day for Chattha

Sunny Chattha has been quietly accumulating chips so far, flying under our radar somewhat but his dot appeared in sharp focus a few moments ago as he 4 bet the extremely active Jim Moult (who has been busily pwning Flushy a lot) preflop.

The action went raise, re-raise to 3825, re-re-raise to 9825, flat call from Jim!

Wow!

The board fell 8h 6h 2d and after Sunny checked, Jim also elected to check behind.

The turn fell the Th and Sunny spent only a few moments picking up his stack and moving all-in (13k or so)

Jim thought about it for a while, re-checked his hole cards and threw them in the muck, meaning a delighted Sunny picked up the 20k pot, moving him to well over 30k now.

Stuart Nash, still eating his tiny tub of ice cream, bet 2k on the turn of a Kc Ad Aspades 4d 6d board and Jeff Burke called. They both checked the 6d river and Burke announced, "King," but it wasn't enough as Nash turned over Art 2h to take the pot.

Now Pab's been getting a bit of stick for playing no hands.

The boy really doesn't need to prove himself with his online record, not to mention his near bracelet miss in 2007.

So I thought I would show how wrong people were by getting an updated chip count. The last time I counted Pab's stack he had 27k.

The new count would surely suggest some rampant raising and re-raising had been going on?

So I counted his stack.

27,050.

See he's acccumulating!

Anyway I took some shots of Pab to show the world just how busy this boy's been. If anyone is shocked by one of the frames where it looks like Pab is reaching for chips, DON'T WORRY!

He was just posting his big blind. Enjoy the dynamism of the one, the only Paul Foltyn!

I love the way one report sets up another sometimes.  Pab just near-doubled through, knocking out Roberto Romanello's verbal sparring partner of the last hour, Abed Eid.

Pab reraised all in preflop, and waited patiently while the final commentary came from Eid.  He was covered, and resignedly put the lot in saying, "I am sick of this day," and turning a dominated Aspades Js to Pab's Ad Ks.

The board:  4s 2d 9d Kd 2h and off he went with what sounded like, "Hope I didn't annoy you!" from Romanello following him.

I wandered over to see Erik Svanes bet out 1.5k on a 2h Kc 9h flop. Dinh Le called to his left flat-called, but Robert Boon announced all in behind for another 10k exactly. Svanes passed pretty sharpish, but Le debated with his inner lagtard for a while. "Why?" he was asking. Eventually he called, and he was behind.

Le: Kh 7s
Boon: Kd Js

Turn: 8c

River: 8s

The jack played, and in a Boon for Robert he more than doubled up to almost 30k.

Neil Channing - sports bettor, poker player, staker supremo.

And he's got chips!

He just played out a big pot which helped him reach this lofty perch.

Seeing a flop of Ad 7c 4c he called a bet of 1,100 and saw the turn fall the 5c.

Leading for 1,700 he watched his opponent insta check-raise to 4.2k. He called before seeing the 6d fall on the river.

Check from his opponent, the Channing Chatter Machine was turned onto full blast.

"I thought I had you on the flop but then you check raised me on the turn and I thought, 'I've let you get there haven't I?'...oh I dunno. Have you got a set of fours? Ok six thousand is the bet."

Channing now turned off and perched hunched over the two bananas he has in front of him like a selfish gorilla who didn't want to share his fruit.

His opponent called, only for Channing to show down 8c 9c for the flush, and being shown 8d 5h by his opponent for his trouble.

Over 30k now, he has a last-longer and most-chipped-up side bet with Flushy ( and possibly about 30 others) which he looks likely to take down, especially in light of the most recent hand Flushy played (TBC)...

Oh deary deary me.

I caught the very end of a Bradshaw disaster, and the very beginning of the aftermath. The board read Js Kh Aspades 8c 4c (or possibly 4c 8c Aspades Kh Js, I'm afraid I only caught the very end and wrote it down very quickly) and Andrew Bradshaw bet 7k. Flushy very slooowwwwlllyyy called, and his Ac 7d was good against Bradshaw's Tc 7c. Flushy up to 36k.

The next hand, a clearly tilty Bradshaw raised in late position and then called a reraise all in from short-stacked Richard (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=2576) Stanley (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=2576). Stanley turned over a very reasonable Ad Kh... and Bradshaw turned over a rather esoteric Jc 7c. The 4d 5s Ts Td 2h board did nothing for anyone, and Bradshaw is down to 15k. Yikes.

I was only hovering over the Pab/Eid table because of a featurette I was about to post about who the talkiest players of today were.  Both Eid and Roberto qualified, but unfortunately I am going to have to disqualify Eid again because he's now OUT.  So in ascending order, who's like having the radio on at your table?  For whom might you need the Noise Cancelling function should you wish to concentrate?  Who could perhaps sell you a beanbag and convince you it was a Ferrari?

4th place

Padraig (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=690) Parkinson (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=690)  - although when on form he can quite literally hold a fairly amusing conversation with himself, or spread one over several different people at once, he's been concentrating at least a bit today and I can't hear him from the centre of the room, so he doesn't qualify for a ribbon position.  Still one of the masters, though.

3rd place

Louise Duffy - confident lady player Duffy in the last couple of levels seems to have been on the Redbull or something as every time I pass her table she is talking to someone or just kind of declaiming.  Like having the radio on low from where I'm sitting.  Her voice rates 4/10 on the Annie (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1009) Duke (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1009) Projection Scale though, so she's third in the list.

2nd place

Neil (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=302) Channing (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=302) - for reasons already discussed - recognisability of laugh, frequency of same, ability to get other people on his table to talk back to him, definitely deserves a runner-up spot.

1st place

Roberto (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=376) Romanello (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=376) - obv.  I genuinely think he traumatised Mr. Eid into pushing with that AJ.  Plus about 20 minutes ago all I could hear was, "I'll give you three to one!  No FIFTY to one!!! LAST LONGER, you want it, you want it? LAST LONGER what do you SAY?" which I think was directed at the same man.  He replied, "I only play for fun, you're the professional!" to which Padraig (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=690) Parkinson (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=690) added, "Professional fish fryer," and basically all together that table wins all vocal prizes, with the ribbon awarded to Romanello.

"One time!" said Flushy for the millionth time of his young poker career.

But it wasn't to be.  A king spiked, knocking Flushy back to 20k ish...AGAIN!

Maybe he needs to have a word with the patient chip accumulator that is Paul Foltyn.

The young man in this photo being tailed by the secret service* is Adam Stoneham, the latest casualty of the GUKPT Grand Final.  After a good start to the day it looks like Stoneham's cards dried up and he was nursing a shortish stack by the time he busted.  Just prior to this, however, he'd clawed back 5-6k moving in on the turn against Roberto on a board of Aspades Th Js 8c for around 10k and taking that pot down.

Here however, he saw a flop vs. Pab who'd dusted off his chips once more - this time Pab raised on the Ad 8h 6h flop by flipping in two nonchalant yellow 5k chips, and it was just a formality to be sure that when Stoneham went for it he was covered all-in... he held Aspades Jd against the drawtastic 4h 5h of Paul Foltyn.

Stoneham dodged the Ts turn but the Qh river made Pab the flush and bumped him from the tournament.

Yes, he has three chips.

One is a 5k, the other two were hidden beneath this one, but didn't look like 1ks.

So he is on serious life support but laughing and joking with his table nonetheless.

Doing better is Dave Callaghan, holding steady on around 22k right now.

Yawn, another Flushy update.

Much though I would rather aim my interest elsewhere, whenever I pass Flushy's table his stack has either doubled or halved, forcing me to hear the latest tale of joy/woe from his fishy lips.

He's back over 30k again, this time as a result of raising A-7 from early position and being called.

The flop fell A-K-J and though I didn't have my pen on me at the time I beleive Flushy checked it before betting the 9 on the turn and facing a check raise.

He called and then called a big bet on the blank river.

A-7 was good and his opponent berated him for calling. "How can you call that!"

Though Flushy didn't give a proper answer, I can answer for him.

Because much like King's Cross...

...he is a massive station.

While Flushy related this hand to me, he pointed out (again) that he was unlucky to have "doubled up my scandinavian neighbour."

The icy stare he received back could have blown straight off an Icelandic Icecap. Nice to see he's making friends as usual :)

Andy Bradshaw has been a little on the hyper side of active recently, after doubling through Richard (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=2576) Stanley (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=2576) a few hands later he was raising to 1,600 preflop, only for Jim (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1380) Moult (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1380) to flat call in position, and Richard (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=800) Simmonds (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=800) to push all in over the top.  Bradshaw relentlessly punished the lid of his GUKPT mint box while dwelling (it does make a satisfying popping sound when badgered) but passed, as did Moult.

The very next hand he limped in, Sunny (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=423) Chattha (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=423) raised to 2,125, and Jim (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1380) Moult (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1380) took his turn to shove pre for 12,975 total.  In went Bradshaw's call, Sunny bowed out and they were on their backs:
Bradshaw: 6c 6d

Continuing with Irishwatch, Rob Taylor may be in a spot of trouble soon. With a 3d 2c 4s Jd 2d board out, Ali Mallu bet enough to put Taylor all in. The follically challenged Irishman thought about it, but eventually passed, shaking his head. He's down to just 7k.

Andrew (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=26) Bradshaw (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=26) may be out now, but not before taking a few chips off of Ram (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=359) Vaswani (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=359), who, as we understand it, is having a pretty bad run at the moment. Vaswani raised to 1.8k with Kc Kh and then called when the tilty Bradshaw pushed for around 7k total with Ac Jc, but a 3c 2s 6s Ad Qc board briefly doubled up the crazy tilter and left the Full Tilter glum.

Also hitting the rail before the end of the seventh level of the day is Louise Duffy.  It looked like her stack wasn't overhealthy - perhaps 10-12k - but it was still a cold deck which put her Kings in the way of Gareth Jones' Aces.

Here's Jones (I think - his ticket is sort of wedged in the table - apologies if I've got your name wrong) in the oversized pseudoaviators, clearly moved deeply by the plight of his vanquished opponent:

Controversy!

Once again the news comes from table Flushy. Table partner Andrew Bradshaw and Ram (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=359) Vaswani (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=359) were also involved.

Flushy started the party off, making it 1,600 from UTG, picking up a call from Ram (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=359) Vaswani (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=359) who threw in a 5k chip to signify it was a call.

This is where the arguments started. Andrew Bradshaw was apparently told by the dealer "5k on you" so put in a 5k chip to call, only for Flushy to query it.

"Huh? It was only 1,600 to call so he called 1,600?" Bradshaw was not at all happy about this.

"I was told 5k so I called 5k! If I thought it was 1,600 I might have raised!" He now stood on his chair and began flailing about - a classic debating technique, oft used in the house of commons - while the floor was called.

The floor were called over and it was ruled that as the dealer told him it was 5k, his bet was a raise to 5k...

Flushy passed, a disgruntled Ram called and before the flop was dealt Andrew moved it all-in blind.

It came K-8-8 Andrew was all-in and Ram called, unsuprisingly as he had 8s 9s!

Bradshaw flipped over Aces and once two blanks hit the turn and river, Ram had doubled through to a more dangerous looking 25-30k whilst Andrew was down to dust with 4 or 5k.

Flushy's stack has vacillated wildly today but always seems destined to return to the 21-22k mark.

He is on 21k presently having lost a big pot to Ram where he flopped top pair but was out-kicked by Ram's top pair.

Rollercoaster for Thomas Bichon (pictured):

His stack suddenly got a bit healthier after he dwell-reshoved over shorterstacked Noel Burger, with the pleasing Kc Ks which held vs. Ad Qh.  Then it immediately shriveled after he raised preflop, got moved in over by Roberto Romanello, called as one might with Ad Kc, and found Roberto on a move with 9h 4h.

Flop: 8s Jc 6c
Turn: 9d
River: Td

"I had the best hand on the turn," said Roberto helpfully, before telling him it was a race and giggling about the whole thing with neighbour Padraig Parkinson, who held the 9h 4h in front of his stack so convincingly the dealer nearly shipped him the pot ;)

It's been up and down for Ram Vaswani. Somehow down again to just 4.5k, he shoved from mid position - and the Andrew Bradshaw Tiltarama experience continued, and he called. This time, though, he was ahead.

Bradshaw: Kc Qc
Vaswani: er, 3d 4c

Board: 7d 3h Aspades 9s Ts

Ram doubles up to around 9k (which may dismay Neil Channing, who has a last longer with him as well as around half of today's field by the looks of the bit of paper he was consulting) and Bradshaw was down to just 2k.

--------

As it turns out, although we managed to erroneously declare him busted a little earlier on, Mr Bradshaw has now at last bitten the tournament dust.

A fortunate double up for Lee Atherton, who thought it would be a good idea to shove utg with Jh 9s and found himself called by Liam Flood holding Th Td. The Aspades 4h Jd Jc Kc board made it all ok though, and he doubled up to around 23k.

Poor old Pab.  "I just want this day to be over."  Leaving sickbed only long enough to buy in to the tournament, Paul Foltyn has been dosing himself with the admirable combination of Day and Night Nurses and is feeling rough.  It hasn't stopped him raising his stack up to just under 60,000 however, so whatever sympathy the other players might have for his snivelly condition is probably mitigated.  When I suggested just skipping the last level and getting that all-important extra hour's sleep, he admitted that he just couldn't bring himself to do that.  "Plus there's Moorman to catch up with..."

The Count!

Some of you with slight dyslexia may have thought I was referring to James Dempsey again there but no, here's some counts from random, assorted players.

Dave Callaghan - 27k
Neil Channing - 28k
Paul 'Pab' Foltyn - 61k
Roberto Romanello - 30k

Roberto was on 25k but then was seen betting a 2-4-6-4 board for 5.5k. His opponent was dwelling and the Radio went into overdrive.

"I've got the best hand but my kicker's not so good. Yeh definitely a few kicker problems but my hand is best I know. If you're calling you'd better have a good kicker. Well, what is it?"

The answer was a fold and as Roberto swept up the pot, continuing to talk about his bad kicker, he was admonished by Padraig Parkinson.

"Just shut up and post your blind!"

"I'm back playing my best poker now, I've got my game back!"

"You've got your mouth back!" retorted the Irishman a little tetchily, perhaps finding it unusual not to be the most vocal player at the table.

Meanwhile Roberto's now eliminated brother was stood behind him, laughing hysterically.

More minor misfortunes for Liam (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=638) Flood (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=638), who called a 2.5k raise from Mickey (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=283) Wernick (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=283). "Leave me alone, you old Irish fox," warned Mickey, but it was too late for that and they proceeded to a 6h 9s Jc flop, which both players checked. Mickey checked before the dealer turned over the 5s turn, Flood checked behind, and Mickey checked the river blind too -- and then exploded with laughter when the dealer turned over the Ahrt. He still checked, though, and Flood bet 2.5k. Mickey called and Flood flipped A-Q -- but Mickey turned over A-K to take the pot.

Mickey Wernick: 35k
Liam Flood: 50k

Self-indulgent though it might be to quote my own post, I must inform you all that in the last 15 minutes another space has opened up on Pab's table and perhaps being under the weather agrees with him as he's now Chip Leader on just over 120,000!

And Flushy has doubled again. Honestly it's getting boring!

He raised on the button with Qs 3s and Ram made the call.

The flop fell Aspades Tc 6s and when Ram checked, Flushy bet out, only for Ram to check raise all-in.

Flushy called and gave me this explanation.

"He's got a wide range there, I have to balance his range with tens and smaller flush draws so it's a +EV call."

This was his actual thought process.

Anyway, he called, Ram had T-6 for two pair. Obv Flushy gets there and is now sitting atop a 35-40k stack again.

"Well played sir!"

Poor old Pab.  "I just want this day to be over."  Leaving sickbed only long enough to buy in to the tournament, Paul (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=323) Foltyn (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=323) has been dosing himself with the admirable combination of Day and Night Nurses and is feeling rough.

Self-indulgent though it might be to quote my own post, I must inform you all that in the last 15 minutes another space has opened up on Pab's table and perhaps being under the weather agrees with him as he's now Chip Leader on just over 120,000!

QUOTE FROM MOORMAN AT THE START OF THE DAY:

"If Pab finishes with more chips than me, I'm giving up poker!"

Pab is now only 27k from that magic number, meaning he has a level to put Moorman out of business.

Is this the end for Chris????!

Any update on Fran (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1801) Egan (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1801) please?

He's in the Danger Zone with 8,100.  Recently a few chips went Ketul Nathwani's way after he flat called Egan's late position raise (2,200) on the button, flat called 2,700 on the 6d Tc 2h flop, and then took the pot when it was checked to him on the 5s turn.  Hmmm...

Controversy!

Once again the news comes from table Flushy. Table partner Andrew (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=26) Bradshaw (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=26) and Ram (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=359) Vaswani (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=359) were also involved.

Andrew (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=26) Bradshaw (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=26) was apparently told by the dealer "5k on you" so put in a 5k chip to call, only for Flushy to query it.

Bradshaw flipped over Aces and once two blanks hit the turn and river, Ram had doubled through to a more dangerous looking 25-30k whilst Andrew was down to dust with 4 or 5k.

awful ruling. Surely the common sense ruling would have been the dealer has made an error and declared 5k to call so action should have gone back to andy and he would have had the option to call the 1600 or raise (fold is not an option). There is no way they can say andys 5k is a raise when the dealer has told him its 5k to call.

think the correct ruling would have been for it to class as a call for 1600 i think by the gukpt rules

The players got a short break following level 8 but they're back in action at the felt for the final, frenetic level.

Questions to be answered:

Will Flushy go broke on a flush draw?

Can Pab retire Moorman from the poker scene?

Will Channing produce any more bananas?

An exciting finish is in the offing!

how many players left for day 2 do you reckon?

my guess would be 54 with around 6 or 7 players not representing the channing stable

next year the tour is being renamed to the GUKPT in assoiciation with NC I believe

Interesting chat with Nik Persaud during the break who now has about 36k, following losing much of his stack with 8-8 on a 7-8-9 two heart board versus J-T.

However he regained much of his stack by playing out the following hand...

"I'm new to the table so I just limp in the cut-off with Ahrt 2h. The button calls and the small blind makes up.

The flop comes Jh 3h 3x. Now I've got a strong feeling the blinds may check raise me to represent a three, in which case I was going to gauge how strong they were before deciding whether to commit myself.

So I lead out small to give myself room to three bet all-in but instead of what I thought the button flat calls...

It's interesting, I'm not sure what he has there.

The turn is a deuce, I have a little showdown value so I check and now the button bets the full pot - 6k.

I'm thinking about it and I don't see why he would do that with a jack there. Surely he'd go for a bit of pot control. So I check raise all-in and he eventually passes. I've been reading about how Brian Townsend says if you check raise on the turn with 30% equity you're never doing much wrong and you know what...it works!"

First bust-out of level Nine: Stephen Hill whose short stack went in preflop over an early position raiser (around 12k or so) only to find Robert Boon reshoving.  No one else wanted any more of this, and it turned out that Hill's Jacks were up against Boon's Kings.  The original raiser muttered something about passing an Ace, which would have paired straight away sucking out on both of them, but it was not to be - Kings held and we're short handed on the remaining five tables.

Bad news for Maz (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=277) Nawab (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=277) and supporters thereof - it looks like he's cutting out the last level and heading off because he's really feeling unwell.  He was a late arrival today, too, according to Mr. Raab, and with under 14k he might be in a bit of trouble tomorrow afternoon at restart.  Unless he's just gone for a power nap or something, but his stack is just sitting there dwindling as I write.  Down to 11,125 now and dropping...

See Nawab's really ill; Pab just has man-flu.

I can be rude about him because he's doing very well atm.

Richard Ashby seems to have limped from the cutoff and then called a Pab raise from the small blind. When Pab bet out on the 9d Jh 2s flop, Ashby pushed all in, Pab called and they turned their cards over. I think that's what happened anyway - all of this was conducted very quickly and in absolute, expressionless silence.

Anyway.

Pab: Ac Kh
Ashby: Tc 8c

Turn: 3c

River: 8h

A pair of eights for Ashby, and he doubles up to 30k or so, putting the most trifling of dents in the Pab Monster Stack, but possibly enough of a dent to ensure that Chris Moorman has a long and successful poker career. There's still half an hour of the level left, though.

Ram Vaswani seems to have exited, but Neil Channing's assorted last longers are no sure thing -- he's just doubled up Fran Egan to the tune of 30k, getting it in I believe on the flop with an open-ended straight draw against Egan's A-K. The straight didn't come in and Egan made two pair just for the sheer hell of it, and Channing is down to 21k.

Seasoned Campaigner Chip Count

These guys have been on the circuit for a while. Some say they were there at the dawn of time, raising it up and c-betting while Harrington was still a twinkle in his father's eye.

And they are here still, plying their trade with skill and guile.

Here's to the stalwarts of the profession.

Liam Flood - Liam has had a renaissance this tournament - big stacked throughout, he still has a whopping 75k or so.

Micky Wernick - Legend in name, legend in stature, Micky has worked effectively through the day and has a stack of 38k to show for his endeavours.

Neil Channing - Ever since handing his last banana out to Nik Persaud, Channing's fortunes seem to have trodden carelessly on the discarded skin, and he is now down to 21k.

"I lost a lot raising to 8k on the button with 8c 9c with the two Irish fellas in the blinds(Dave Callaghan and Fran Egan). I usually do well against the Irish! This time though, Fran woke up with pocket Aces. That wasn't in the plan..."

Ali Mallu - The joker in the pack, Ali is completely unpredictable and has about 57k at the moment.

Sorry to bring yet more Flushy news.

I know it's tedious to keep hearing about the same player but well, there's always been a lot of action on Flushy's table and the last few minutes was no exception.

He was down to 26k and after I got a count, he posted his big blind and I went off to get further chip counts.

Shortly after he tapped me on the shoulder.

"How blessed are you! As soon as you arrived I got AA in the BB, UTG raised and had Jacks so he paid me off!"

(Double up to 52k)

"Next hand, omg ACES AGAIN!" This time he re-raised (Jim Moult's initial raise I think) and got it through so picked up some more chips.

He now has about 56k or so...

Having said that, an enormous ruling-arguing crowd has grown around the Persaud/Pab/Romanello table as a very long drawn-out Situation is recounted and all players look like they're going to hate whatever ruling is given.  Dana is watching it and knows what really happened (sounds like a Panorama intro)...

Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Grand Final - Day 1b

The Situation was still being argued out 10 minutes later so I thought I'd briefly fill Rod in on what had happened so far and leave him to find out the conclusion.

I can, however, offer you the preamble to the Situation.

With around 10k in the pot come the 5c 4d Js flop, Robert (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1427) Boon (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1427) bet 9k. Roberto (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=376) Romanello (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=376), his sole opponent, made it 18k -- to which Boon instantly moved all in for 48.3k total, easily covering Roberto who'd left himself just 16k behind. There followed some lengthy Romanello dwelling before -- here it comes --

"Will you show if I pass?"

The answer was stony silence, and Roberto passed anyway. Boon showed him 9c 9s.

Last hand of the day, Channing ships it in.

"How much is it?" says McConnon in the big blind, who has spent much of the day upsetting his neighbours at his table.

"It's about 12k. I don't mind if you call, I just don't want you to make a mistake with the amount."

"I WANT A COUNT!" demanded McConnon aggressively, to which the dealer counted out Channing's stack at 11,700.

"You want a call do you? I want you out of here!"

"I don't give a f**k what you do either way."

"Ok, I call!"

Channing showed K-2 and McConnon punched the air as he tabled pocket sixes.

"Let's get you out of here, I'm sick of you!" he told Channing with the rest of the table probably feeling the diametric opposite.

The first card the dealer laid out was a six and it looked like his boorish behaviour was about to be rewarded as he flopped a set.

"Hahaha! That's it. Get out of here!" chirped Mcconnon as his hand took a massive lead.

The rest of the board ran out 7-4-3.....5! Miraculously the board made a straight and perhaps a little bit of justice was dealt out.

Channing must have been pretty happy with that fortuitous split but he merely accepted his half of the pot as Mcconnon railed about his bad luck.

In other news, Flushy has seen his stack decimated in the latter stages.

He re-popped a Stuart Nash raise to 9k with pocket nines, which Nash flat called with 20k back.

The flop came Jack high, Flushy set Nash in and he called with K-J, which held...

"Stuart Nash is terrible" said Flushy...

Moorman doesn't need to worry, Pab ended up with 97k. "Not bad!" was Pab's modest assessment of how the day went.

Ok, so to the situation. I arrived to see 3k in front of Nik (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=314) Persaud (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=314) on the cutoff, cards still in front of Nichlas Mattsson on the button, all of Roberto (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=376) Romanello (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=376)'s chips across the betting line, and Nik (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=314) Persaud (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=314) folding A-9 face up with big blind Richard (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1562) Wheatley (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1562) yet to act. It turns out that Mattsson had attempted to raise, but before he'd announced how much, Roberto had announced all in and pushed his chips across the line. Nik folded and Mattsson turned over A-T, not realising that Wheatley was still to act -- from across the table, Wheatley's cards were obscured by his chips. He announced all in too, and flipped over Ahrt Qh; Roberto flipped 8h 8s, and at some point Mattsson's cards had become un-flipped and the floor had been called.

To help you visualize the situation, please enjoy this state-of-the-art computer reconstruction:

Anyway, at this point I left as it sort of degenerated into about eight people shouting at each other, but Rod informs me that eventually it was decided that bets out of turn stood, and Wheatley was allowed to call the not very big difference, an easy call given he knew he had Mattsson dominated.

Board: 7d 2c 6h 3d 7c

Thus Roberto triples up, Wheatley wins the side pot and Mattsson is crippled down to 11k. That all make sense? Good. Play is now officially over. Woo!

We'll get the full chip counts shortly from Jon Raab which will probably confirm Pab as the chip leader (don't worry Moomin you're safe) but for now we bid you farewell and urge you to join us for the run-in to the final table that will continue tomorrow at 2pm.
