Title: BlueSq.com GUKPT Grand Final - Day 2
Post by: danafish on November 29, 2008, 03:47:48 AM
Hello! Welcome to Day 2 of the BlueSq.com GUKPT Grand Final, when our remaining Days 1a and 1b survivors will be battling it out to see who makes the coveted final table tomorrow.

For the moment we can tell you that our chip leader is online legend Chris (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=69) Moorman (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=69), with the similarly legendary Jeff Duvall and Paul "Pab" Foltyn in second and third place behind him. Other legends trailing not far behind include Liam (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=638) Flood (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=638) and Tony (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=772) Cascarino (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=772).

Still to come in the morning:

- Full chip counts

- Seating assignments

- Payout

- More bad photos of Flushy, probably

So stay tuned. Back at 2pm.

The Day Two-ers are ready, set, and this second - GO!

A subdued field rustles and chip-clicks with little other sound - the Vic has yet to regain its full weekend bustle and I think a good few players haven't had a great night's sleep.  Not naming names.

Straight off the bat and Richard Gryko gets it in preflop, raising Ali Mallu all-in and getting snapped by Ad Kd.  Gryko's Ac Qc wasn't in great shape, and though on the turn he picked up a flush draw, the King-high board remained with too few clubs to crack Mallu, who actually had the goods this time, and now has a stack of over 100,000 to play with.  His table's faces are collectively glum, apart from Pab who's just been moved to Mallu's immediate left.

ACTION!

Triple all-in preflop!  Nik Persaud standing up and talking doesn't mean necessarily that all his chips are over the line... but this time it did and he was looking wryly at the Kc Kd in front of Long Zhang... It looked like A-K for the GUKPT rankings climber, who had moments earlier been trying to claim a "free T-shirt or something" for having been the only person to play all legs of the GUKPT.

Young Irish festival journeyer Gary Clarke (sat two seats away from Fran Egan, no less) just busted Nichlas Mattsson.  Mattsson shoved pre with 9d 9c as it turned out, only to find his neighbour reshoving with Jc Jh.  They held; we're down another.  Here they are pictured in that tense 'on their backs' moment, with Gary doing the "Don't crack me," head prop.

Two of the short stacks - Neil "Bad Beat" Channing and James "Flushy" Dempsey had a last longer bet running which has just been decided.

Neil passed the first few hands, stopping only momentarily to compliment Davood (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=124) Mehrmand (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=124) on his impressively lofty bouffant - but then....suddenly....ACTION!

Neil shipped it in, only for Martin (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=269) Green (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=269) to make the call with K-Q.

It was a good call as Neil could only table J-8.

The board fell absent of any pairs for anyone, meaning K high was good and we were one player down...

Flushy was seen dancing like a little leprechaun at having won the last longer bet...

Having won the last longer bet, Flushy was now called into action.

With 1.2k in the BB and 2k back, when he saw Moorman raise to 3.6k from UTG and Stuart Nash re-pop to 9k, he called his last 2k off...

Moorman also called and the two active players went to a flop of Qd Ks 5d...

Check, check.

TURN: Tc

Check, check.

RIVER: Js

Moorman check, Nash 15k, Moorman folded what he later revealed was 9-9 and Nash showed AQ for the nuts.

Flushy showed a jack and said "PAIR!" hopefully, misunderstanding the rules of poker as usual but once the hand rankings were explained to him again, his tournament was over and the dream had died.

Bad luck Flushy!

David McConnon, late nite table irritant but enthusiastic qualifier to the tournament, has come back in a much calmer frame of mind, perusing his text messages rather than chatting at his table.  I hope by the time I post this, the details of the huge hand which decimated Ali Mallu's Gryko-busting stack will be clear... in any case, the finishing blow to his stack was dealt by McConnon with Qc Qd - Mallu was clearly in no mind to sit and patiently grind through the day - he'd had 100k and by god he was going to have it again or bust trying... his final hand was 8h 2h which failed to conquer the Ladies.

Pictured: McConnon in hat flanked by Peter Wood and Dan Carter.

Flushy has tod me he doesn't plan to limp at any stage today and limp-folding is definitely a no-no. He only needs four double-ups to get to slightly below average.

In other news Pab hits 200k allegedly winning a big double up off Ali (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=23) Mallu (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=23)...more details as they arrive.

Go Pab!

Yes yes indeed, Pab is now our MONSTROUS CHIP LEADER!!!

I have no idea how this all came to pass, but I strolled over to his table to see him all in with A-K, A-9 in front of Ali (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=23) Mallu (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=23) and an entirely nine-free 8-J-3-T-4 board out in front of them. Mallu had over 100k after knocking out Richard (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=368) Gryko (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=368), and thus Pab enjoys a full double up to around 200k, while Mallu dropped down to a mere 6k. He doubled through David Mcconnon a few hands later, but remains in some hot water with around 10 big blinds. Yikes.

There are some photos of the action just being uploaded presently but while these are formatted, uploaded and embedded for your perusal, let me bring you up-to-date with some of the exciting developments from here in the Vic.

First off we have the sharply contrasting fortunes of Pab and Moorman. Pab's star has risen to the point where he is the vast chip leader whereas Moorman has seen his stack plummet to 70k.

He looked a little morose as I came to chat to him but he was happy to go through the hands.

First off he lost 9k or so in that 99 V AQ v Flushy's bag of spanners hand.

Next up he lost a race AK v shortstack's 33 i believe. "FML" he said as the flop came 3-2-2...

Next up he raise Ac 4c from UTG, and was flatted in 2 spots, including Surinder on the button.

The flop fell A-T-2 "Not that great three handed" said Chris, but when he checked and Surinder bet with not much back, Chris re-raised him all-in and he snapped him off with A-K. Nasty.

All in all then not the greatest start for online legend 1, whilst online legend 2 Pab is wearing a broad Cheshire Cat smile as he sits atop the rankings...

Dave Callaghan eliminated by Ketul Nathwani...

Liam Flood busted by someone on his table...

All this while my attention on Table One where Peter Wood has raised preflop to 3,600 (blinds 600/1,200) and been reraised all-in by James Akenhead, who calmly waits while Wood deliberates.  Counting down his stack, it's very close between them, with around 25k each, but it turns out that Wood has to make the call for his tournament life.  He says, eventually, "I can't possibly pass," tabling Tc Td.
Akenhead flipped over his Qs Js, not in as bad shape as he may have thought, and they both watched the board come out 7s Kd 9c 5h 3c.

Wood stands, claps once, impressively loudly, and takes a celebratory sausage roll from a passing waitress, whom he tells "That wasn't easy!"  She appeared fascinated by this revelation.

Akenhead was down to 3k and is now OUT.

Early Boon for Svanes

Also a casualty of level 10 is Robert Boon.

Seeing a flop three way with Dan Carter and Eirik Svanes, he watched Dan Carter lead the T-J-5 flop for 6.3k before Erik popped it up to 21k and Robert now decided to ship his remaining stack in with his straight draw 8d 9d...

He was always getting called and once Dan ducked out of the way, Erik did call with T-J for top two.

A blank on the turn and house-completing jack on the river completed the hand, bringing Erik to over 100k, but sending Boon to the rail.

Roberto has indeed busted, somehow getting it on with Jh 9h against Robin Keston's pocket queens with no miracles to save him. Robin Keston now looks to have overtaken Pab as our MONSTROUS CHIP LEADER!!! - he's on 222k.

"Do you have over average chips?" asked a wag at his table. "Yes, replied Keston, "But the question is, do I have over average ability?"

It's good to be the chip leader:

Also out is Mickey "The Leg-end" Wernick, in most unfortunate circumstances. He got it all in with aces against the pocket kings of none other than Mclovin - and a third king on the flop smacked him in the face. "I don't mind losing, but kings against aces fucking hurts, you know what I mean?" Indeed we do. Just to make it that little bit worse as well, Fran (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1801) Egan (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1801) folded a king in that hand, making it a one-outer. Ouch.

Gary "McLuckin" Clarke - now over 70k.

Fran "Terminator" Egan, by the by, on just 20k.

Trickett Doesn't Like Sharing...

He's all in, I think, and so start the vulturey railing of the table, noting that the board is Th Aspades 7c 6c and his opponent is Surinder Sunar and there's around 15,000 in the pot and Sam Trickett has two green stacks equalling 20k in front of him, over the line.  Surinder, not known for his brash instadecisions, took his time, counting down his stack and finding he had Trickett covered by a few thousand.  It became apparent that Trickett actually still had 600 chips left, and Surinder eventually just called.  Trickett's hand went over, 600 chips or no 600 chips:  Ahrt 9d.

Surinder kept his hand face down as the river came:  6h

Then he turned it:  Ac 2c for the outkicked top pair with flush draw which ended up chopping the pot!  A sigh and arm wave of "sigh" from Sam Trickett, but he's not out like two tables' worth of players are already.

Sad Lee Feels The Steel

When shortstacked Nathan Lee found TT and saw an opening raise to 6k by Guy Steel, he was happy to ship it in over the top. Steel insta-called though with a pair of Cowboys.

A King on the flop seemed to have sealed it, but with an Ace and a Queen dealt out also, Lee still had a gutshot to get him out of trouble.

No such luck though, the turn and river blanked and yet another player falls victim to the frantic opening to this exciting day's play...

Fuad's Had It

Fuad Serhan raised to 5.7k and then flat-called a reraise to 19k from Martin (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=269) Green (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=269) in the big blind, leaving himself 32k behind. Come the 2s Tc Qc flop, Serhan checked it and Green moved resolutely all in. Serhan thought about it, but passed, leaving himself verging on the short.

A few hands later, he found himself on the big blind. Tim (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=433) Flanders (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=433) merely limped from the button and Long Zhang made up the small blind so Serhan pushed all in. Flanders insta-folded, but Zhang stood up, thought about it, and called.

Serhan: Ahrt Th
Zhang: Kd Td

Board: Kc 6c 4d 7d Ts

Out he goes.

Now that's a BIG pot, but this is a...

MEGA-POT!

Surinder Sunar, Talal Shakerchi and Richard Ashby went 3 way to a flop of Jd Td Ts.

Surinder moved in for his last 30k...

Talal now went into the tank considering his options. Regard his studious face.

Talal called with Q-Q, only to find Richard had him dominated with A-A...oops!

"FFS RUN SO BAD!"

So with those two playing out a large 110k sidepot, back to Surinder who was playing out the 100k main pot with the others, and he showed K-Q for the open ender.

He was in pretty bad shape as an Ace was no good, so he needed to hit a 9 to stay in the competition whilst Talal was drawing even thinner as only a solitary Queen or running 9-8 could save his bacon.

The turn was...the 9c!

Amazingly Surinder had hit to take the lead and when the river blanked his advantage remained, boosting his stock to 100k+!

Ship The Sherbert!
Meanwhile Richard was left with 110k after winning the large side-pot and a dejected Talal was ejected from the tournament.

SHIIICKKKK!

Kim Wittendorf is OUT, running his 8s 8h into Guy Steel's timely Ad Ahrt, with no help from the 3c 3h Kh Td 2c board.

Carter the Stoppable Poker Machine

Dan Carter apparently shoved in blind on the sb when it passed to him, and David McConnon in the bb made the call with A-Q.  When Dan checked his hand he found KK(!) which was promptly outdrawn by a spiked Ace and he's now disappeared.

Panicos In The Disco!

I have no proof that he has headed out to sample the early evening dancing opportunities of the Edgware Road, but either way Panicos Ellinas is OUT. Ketul Nathwani raised to 5k utg and Ellinas pushed from the small blind. A swift call later and they were on their backs.

Nathwani: Jd Jh
Ellinas: Ad Kc

Board: 4s 3h Tc 2s Qh

Steeling himself for the disco/freezing early evening trip home:

Take The Count!

Here are some assorted counts as the action hots up here in the Vic.

Maz (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=277) Nawab (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=277) - 100k. Despite coming back with just 11k and feeling a bit poorly Maz has stormed back into contention here, last seen check raising Martin (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=269) Green (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=269) all-in and being rewarded with a pass.

Excellent work sir!

Robin (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=379) Keston (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=379) - 135k. A good day for Robin, though he is below the zenith his stack reached earlier of 200k or so...

Chris (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=69) Moorman (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=69) - 105k
Chris has steadied himself after a bad start that saw his stack fall to half its initial size.

Last seen chopping a pot with William (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1430) Martin (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1430), showing down A-5 on an A-A-T-T-x board (Martin had the same hand.) He was berated by a tablemate for raising with A-5. "Look at that A-5 nice raising hand...and you always hit!" he lamented as Chris defended his play..."Any ace mate!"

Jim (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1380) Moult (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1380) - 90k. Recently doubled up his shortstack courtesy of Jeff (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=795) Duvall (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=795). Didn't see where the chips went in but a board of Ad Kd Tc x x seemed to fit his Jd Qd much better than Jeff's A-J...

Fran (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1801) Egan (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1801) - 35k. The Terminator has yet to mangle anyone with his titanium arms but is still in with a fighting chance of success.

Mclovin
Gary (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1582) Clarke (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1582) - 60k "I just want action Rod! Nothing's happening!" said Gary, in the midst of the firestorm that has seen close to half the field already eliminated.

Martin Green -120k The save the green campaign seems to have give the scampy Scouser a new breath of life and he is looking good at this point...

One player listed as having chips who doesn't really is Peter Wood - Eirik Svanes just took his last 30k or so bumping the young Scandie up to around 180,000.

Wood raised on the button to 6k, Svanes repopped him from the small blind and he went for it for his remaining 22k or so.  He held Qs Ts vs. Svanes' 7c 7d.  A disappointed Wood watched the board dodge all his cards and then launched into a defense of his actions on camera with Raab right next to the table.  "I did the right thing," he said, "Once I bet, I really had to call.  Would I do the same thing again?  Yes.  I can live with that."

In a flurry of players generally being distracted by fishcakes and chicken appearing at the tables, Michael Tureniec has doubled up courtesy of bag-wielding William Martin. Martin raised to 6k form the cutoff and Tureniec shoved from the big blind; after a moment's thought, Martin called the extra 26k and they were on their backs.

Martin: Aspades 7h
Tureniec: 8s 8d

Board: 7c Qh Ks Tc 3d

Stu might be the Accessory Monarch of the tournament, but I have found a hitherto uncommented upon clothing gem (I can't believe Dana didn't notice - sometimes something is so special it goes right round to Unnoticed again)...

William Martin has a green German flagged army style jacket with a graffiti-style painting of Tupac on it.  Just wow.

A raising war between Stuart Rutter (cutoff) and Pab (small blind) culminated in the Sexy Boy moving all in and Pab finding himself in a quandary. He asked for a count, and the dealer told him it was 70k to call. Eventually, though he said he was very, very close to calling, he passed, leaving himself on 155k while Rutter's new stack amounted to around 90k. All good.

However, Stuart came over to us at the press table a little while later to share some extra info with us. He informs us that he was holding pocket aces and was itching for a call, and when the dealer told Pab it was 70k to call he/she had actually made a mistake - it was in fact just 60k to call. "I didn't want to say because it would have given too much away, but it was out of order," he laments. Could have been a very different ending to that story.

yeah, he just texted bout this. I think he has every right to be very pissed off. He shoved for 42k more over pabs 18k reraise, meaning the correct numbers may have made pab feel priced in - getting close to 2 to 1 - dealer's mistake/(lazyness?) could have just cost him badly. ridiculous

In a flurry of players generally being distracted by fishcakes and chicken appearing at the tables, Michael Tureniec has doubled up courtesy of bag-wielding William (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1430) Martin (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1430).

Tureniec is the Swede who finished 2nd at EPT London. Nice chap.

The blistering opening to the day has slowed to a more sedate pace now with the average stack at over 30 big blinds and the money spots and final table just about coming into view over the hill.

With exits at a premium, I thought I'd snap a few shots of the final four tables for your enjoyment.

Table Moorman

Table Nash/Pab/Rutter

Incidentally a few moments ago, Stu shoved over the top of a Pab raise to 15k by another 60k. Pab thought about it, then laid it down when the dealer apparently incorrectly told him it was 70k more.

"It was very close though" he admitted, which upset Stu, given that he had Aces. "They should really get that right"

Table Trickett/ Surinder

Table Cascarino/ Green

Notice roving reporter Des Duffy in the thick of the action in the background...

Not sfn to be Moorman, all the time.

Just now, no fewer than three limpers came in for 2,400 on Chris Moorman's big blind.  He now quickly raises to 12,000.  William Martin quickly passes, but the second limper, Michael Tureniec, now moves all in for 46,700.  Pass back to Moorman, who although possibly not expecting this was happy to call pretty fast with his Th Tc.

Tureniec held Kc Qc, and straight away the Qd 6c 5s flop saw Moorman looking a little deflated, with no help on later streets.  Shaking his head, he counted out the call which leaves him with 52,000.

Long on Name, Short on Chips

Long Zhang's stack is one of those that has fluctuated wildly today but it ahs just experienced one act of variance too many...

With Maz Nawab raising on the button to 7k, Long now shoved for 47,600 total.

A quick count and a resurgent Maz announced "I call."

7-7 for Long, A-Q for Maz.

I'm never sure how to call these things, but luckily we have our French poker expert Benjo on hand to aid us during these tough times.

"What's going on Benjo????"

Thanks!

A flop of 9d 8h 5h looked safe enough for Long but the Ad on the turn all but sealed his fate and with only six cards in the deck to help him the 8d on the river was none of them, meaning another one bites the dust and a positively sparkling Maz Nawab is up to a gob-smacking 210k!

When you consider he started the day with just 11k, that is an incredible recovery.

"I knew Maz were gonna tek 'im out!" Ash Hussain commented.

Ketul Chipped Up:

At the expense of Gary Clarke, who busted on the final hand before the dinner break.  He raised to 7k preflop, and big blind Ketul Nathwani moved all in.  He shrug-called with Ahrt Jd but found Ketul with Ad Qs.  No outdraw later and his GUKPT title shot is over.  Short stacked for much of the day, this leaves just Fran Egan, I think, flying the Irish flag in this classic T-shirt:

A few stacks have been tinkered with slightly since play restarted 10 mins ago, but we've reached the "Raise, re-raise, dwell, fold" stage of the evening in quite a few areas of the room.  The lengthy considerations of some players does not bode well for the bubble - we may be in for a long night...

With fewer showdowns, we are watching the players who are raising a lot, and those whose reraises are getting rid of them.  Another Moorman/Tureniec hand threatens to take the rest of his chips when Chris' preflop raise gets shoved on by the sunglassed K-Q suited afficionado... He really thinks about it, then passes a raggy Ace of some sort face up.

Elsewhere there have been repeated battles between Surinder Sunar and Sam Trickett - Sunar's escaped jail a couple of times today and is now running away with the keys, while Sam gamely keeps his hand count up but isn't running over the table in the sort of way we've seen elsewhere.

Two interesting hands to report:  First off utg Tim Flanders raises to 9,000, called by Martin Green in the cutoff only.
Flop: 3c 7s 5s   Check; check.
Turn: 9s  Check; check.
River: 2h  Flanders now chucks in 12,000.  Over to Martin Green who sets in for the dwell, but when the cogs finish turning he says, "Go on," tossing in the chips, "Present..."  Instead he gave the gift to himself - Flanders flipped Js 6c.

"What's that?  Nothing?" quietly queries Green and answers his own question stacking up the chips as his Aspades Qc for Ace high wins the pot.

_________________________________________________________________________________

Sam Trickett pulled a few chips back from short stacked Fran Egan - unfortunately I didn't see the beginning of the hand, although I think Sam called a bet on the turn.  What was mainly happening was some frowning, head scratching and general discomfort on the part of Trickett who had checked and now Egan had bet 9,500 with the board having just paired on the river:  Kd 5h 7h Ts Td.

Eventually he made the call and Egan did the, "You got me," table tap; Trickett's Ks 8d was good.

With around 60k in the pot by the river of the 8d Jd 5c Ad 6s board, Jeff Duvall checked to Ketul Nathwani, who stared at the board for a little while. Then he bet 44k. "I call," sighed Duvall, and Nathwani flipped over Qh Td for absolutely nothing. Duvall turned over Ac 8h for two pair, and is up to 135k, while Nathwani is crippled down to just 25k.

William Martin, our short stack going into the dinner break, open-shoved for his last 20k, and got himself called by Richard Wheatley on the cutoff. Robin Keston, however, made it 70k from the small blind. Wheatley hesitated, but passed, and it was heads up. "I might be in the lead," said Martin cheerfully and turned over 3h 6h. He was not in the lead, as Keston was holding Jh Jd.

Board: a relatively uneventful 9h 3d 7s Td 7h, and he's out.

Several players have recently taken the option to add thick outergarments to their persons to combat the hostile weather that is London in the winter.

The inclement weather conditions have brought the return of one of our oldest friends though. Used to be an ever present member of the poker community but was banished to the wildnerness in favour of a smurf-like hat.

Haha yes. I spoke to the Moomin about this hand. Here's how it went down.

Chris raises from the cut-off with Kh 2h. BB calls.

Flop comes 2-6-8.

Check, Check.

Turn is the K.

Check, Moomin 12.5k....call.

River is the 4.

Check, Moomin 28.5k....call

Moomin wins and is now up to 125k, though to be honest he still sucks at stacking his chips up.

"How many chips do you put in each pile Chris?" I asked him earlier, staring at one of the most higgledy-piggledy assortment of chips I have ever seen.

"I dunno, I jsut try and make them into even stacks. I usually know what I've got to the nearest 100k or so lol"

Dena of the Day

If the players ever need perking up, what could get them more excited than the sight of the beautiful Dena coming to deal them cards.

She's not just a pretty face though. The girl has skillz.

Look at her hand speed...so fast they're just a blur (not my lack of camera proficiency obv.)

Dinh Doat Le, shortly after winning a coin-flip with A-T against the pocket eights of Richard Wheatley.

"B*l*oc*s" was the short profanity used as a Ten hit the flop to secure Doat's double up.

Sam Trickett is gamely trying to accumulate while all around him stacks are congealing of 200k+.  Just now he played a hand out of position to Richard Ashby, check calling him until the river when the board read Td Kd 9s 7h...8s.  Again Trickett checked, Ashby fired 18k and he (looking like he's going to get permanent poker worry lines in his forehead at such a young age) eventually called.

Ashby turned over the rivered gutshot Ahrt Jc and Trickett sort of double took but mucked eventually.

Chris Is No More, Man

Indeed, I arrived in the card room to see the Moomin all in with 6s 6h and Erik Svanes holding Aspades Kd.

Board: Tc Td Qd 8d ... wait for it... Ks

Out goes the start of day chip leader. Sad Moomin.

Erik Svanes, by now possessor of a ludicrously big stack, raised again the next hand, and then called a push from Ariel Adda (he finally arrived shortly before dinner to claim his place).

Svanes: Ad Kc
Adda: Js Jh

Board: 8c 7h Jd Th Aspades

Thus Adda doubled up, and Svane ever so slightly dropped down -- but is still sitting extremely comfortably on a 300k monster stack. I declare him NOT the chip leader, though -- that title goes to Robin Keston, who incidentally has position on Svanes at the moment, who is possessor of a whopping 360k in chips.

But Mr Svanes:

ZOMG!

David McConnon busts in a deliciously sick manner (for everyone apart from him, but you know when you get a bit jaded with the watching and the seen-it-all scenarios etc.) holding Qd Qh on a Ks Kd x ...Qc  board.  The turn, fair enough, saw him eager as anything to get his whole stack (c.50k) in, and opponent Stuart Nash went for it.

Nash:  Kc 8c

River:  Oh yes, the Kh.

Hello, Dana here on Jen's in-the-cardroom laptop work station. It's all going crazy here, but just to let you know that Darshan Sami is OUT.

Also, Richard Wheatley is OUT after getting it in with Ac 4s against Richard Ashby's 6d 6s -- the board came down a rather cruel 3s Js 3c Ad 6c, and he's gone.

Photos of all this to follow when I make it back up to the press cave.

Dana again:

Dreadful things have also happened to Javed (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1258) Abrahams (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1258). Pab (button) found himself all in with Js Jd, while Abrahams (cutoff) was holding Ts Tc. No surprises on the board, and Pab doubled up to around 175k while Abrahams was crippled to just 30k.

All in the next hand, he was in a spot of bother with Kd Ts against small blind Gregory (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=2235) Howard (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=2235)'s Tc Td, but a fortunate Kh Jd 2c 5h Ahrt board doubled him up to a slightly more manageable 65k or so to stay in the game.

Dana has been booted off onto her oh-so-superior Mac; normal service resuming.

Javed Abrahams Bites the Dust:

With the size of stack with which such a move is suitable, Javed shoved when it passed to him in the cutoff.  It all went well until big blind Stuart Nash called quickly, with his favourite paint back again:  Kc Ks.  Javed's Qs 9d was no match for it, nine on the board or not, and he busts just shy of the money.  20 left... getting tense in here.

You know what that means...

Stu Rutter just saw a flop with Tim Flanders (on hiis left), they saw the 8d Jd Kd with no marked enthusiasm.  Flanders checked, Stu bet 8,000, call.
Turn:  Th  Check-check
River:  9d Check to Stu once again - he thought momentarily, then checked behind, saying, "Jack."

Flanders turned over the Qd (and then the 8c) while Stu Rutter decided to go the whole hog and reveal his hand:  Js 4h.  "What you call with that for?" asks Flanders, referring to preflop.  Just a smile from the Nutter despite someone piping up with "I thought you could play this game."

Tim Flanders: Serious Business

As the break draws to a close, here's someone who hasn't been sitting drinking coffee in a bubble daze through it:  Des Duffy, champion videoer in the process of filming a mini interview with Pab.  Also expect soon to hear from the chip leader, Eirik Svanes in the near future.

"You were down to just 60k at one point..."
"Yeah, I doubled off Javed, it was a bit of a cooler, really - he raised with Tens, I had Jacks.  Then I bust Sam Trickett."
"Do you ever get in a big pot and feel the urge to shed your skin?"
"What are you talking about?"
"Oh, nothing."*

Conversation may differ from actual.

We will receive updated chip counts shortly, but I can confirm that it is Fran Egan who is the man most in danger at the moment with a mere 27k to his name and the blinds a whopping 3k 6k...

Also he looks to have been usurped as Terminator Of The Day by none other than our resident cobra, Paul "Pab" Foltyn!

Back into action and straight away Pab secures a big pot from Robin Keston, who's been moved to his right.  They were small and big blind on this one, and I started paying attention when a bunch of yellow chips appeared in front of Keston on the turn with the board 4h 9d Js 6c.  The pot had already become 100k+, with Keston the aggressor, betting out on the flop and called by Pab.  On this turn, Keston bet 55k, and after a brief think, Pab called this too.

The river:  8h  Now Keston gives up, Pab shows down Jd Qh, Keston mucks his cards with a bit of force, muttering about "not firing the third bullet...."

The least liked position in a tournament goes to Fran (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1801) Egan (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1801).  Desperately short he got it in with Aspades 9c vs. Maz (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=277) Nawab (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=277)'s Ahrt Kd.

Straight away though, this was outdrawn:  9h Ts Th the flop.
The turn brought him the flush and straight draw:  Qh

But all that promise evaporated on the Ad river busting him and bringing us into the money.

When it gets to the final table, can you give us an indication of how old the players are? As per our prop bet with Trigg? No need to be rude and ask them, just put either old (27+) or not old (26 or under) as per your best judgement.

I think the oldies are just out numbering the youngies at the moment.

Great updates as always guys and the vids are a nice touch.

Only three of our remaining 17 players appear to be on the right side of 30 -- Stuart (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=421) Rutter (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=421), Pab and Eirik (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=2261) Svanes (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=2261). Good luck if you had money on the under-27s...

cheers Jen, most of us bet on the 27s and older, weeeee

Bad news for Stu Rutter...raising to 17k, he saw Gregory Howard shove all-in for another 38k.

Once he ran the maths in his head he realised he was getting way too good a price to call and did so apologising, saying "sorry I have to."

Imagine his surprise then when Howard showed down 8-4!

"I didn't see there was a raise in front!" he told everyone by way of explanation.

The flop came Aspades Ad 4c 3d Ah though and Stu had been dealt a very harsh blow...

Ash Hussein has doubled through KJ v QQ his shove running into Martin Green's bumper big pair.

A King on the flop turned round the advantage though and Green's re-emergence as a poker force is put on ice...temporarily.

He battle on though...

Eirik Slices Through the Competition - Double Bust Out to The Scandinavian Scimitar:

Two huge pots rocket the already-leader Eirik Svanes up to 760,000 chips (leaving only 2million chips between everyone else)!  First up he reraises 44k out of the big blind after Ariel Adda raised to 20k under the gun.  Adda paused; called.

Flop: 2s 3d 2d.  Now it all gets in there, with Adda holding an overpair of 9h 9s and Svanes the Big Draw with Ad Kd.
Turn:  Qd
River:  3s

So Adda busts and Svanes takes another big leap up in chips.

THEN

Robin Keston raised under the gun to 18k, reraised by Svanes on the button a further 26k.  Keston opted for another raise (but not, actually, all-in) - it was left to Svanes to make that move.  Of course it was going in:  Keston had Qs Qd vs. Svanes' Kc Kd.  What timing!  His lone but very enthusiastic railer goes wild... "He runs so good!"    Yes, that he does...

Boom!

Busto!

Robin Keston has been sent packing, despite being in control for much of the day with a big stack.

He even had a big stack when he busted but his aggressive play ran into the aggressive play of Eirik Svanes. Give them both a big pair and the fireworks were guaranteed to go off.

In this case it was Svanes who held the advantage, his pocket cowboys crushing the pocket ladies of Keston and with no surprises to the river, a whopping pot was shipped to the Norwegian who now has amassed a HUGE stack of 750k or so, more than double 2nd place.

Pics to come...

Aloha, Dana here once again on the Cardroom Work Station:

Blind on blind, Mazarus Nawab and short stack Jim Moult saw a Kc 3d 7h flop and Maz bet enough to put Moult and his sad shirt stack in -- maybe 25k. Call.

Moult: Ad Jd
Nawab: a rather lacklustre 9c 2d

Turn: 5d

River: 9h

"Oh no," said Maz, genuinely sorry to suck out on the unfortunate Moult. No use crying over spilt Moult though, as he's gone and we're down to 14.

Excellent fortune for Guy (Don't) Steel (My Blind). Jeff Duvall raised from the button and then called the shove from Steel, and it couldn't have been better for the Not Iron Man.

Steel: Kh Kc
Duvall: Kd Jd

Board: just a hint of drama with 9h Qh Ac 2h 6s

Double up for Steel.

There has been quite a lot of action down on the last two tables in five hands, starting with:

Jeff Duval l has button.  He notes that Guy Steel, hitherto not in the habit of going in light and with a short stack is on the big blind.  So he just whacks in some yellow 5k chips, and suddenly Steel goes all in!  It's not a lot, in fact the initial raise might have had him covered, but as he turns Jd Kd his eyebrows go up as he sees Steel's Kc Kh!  Suddenly back in it, Steel has 170k, which is still short, to be fair, while Jeff Duvall had to wait about four more hands before he did bust someone...

Yep, Ash Hussain's lessthan3bb go in right away and big blind Surinder calls with 3c 3s - against Ash's Ks Ts.

The flop is promising:  6s 4s 6d but the turn absolutely crushes him with the 3h and the river pours lemon juice on his paper cut with the Aspades.

14th for Ash and £5,500 for his efforts.

Good fortune for Tony Cascarino too:

Ash Hussain shoved his short stack in from the button, and Cascarino stuck his even shorter stack in from the big blind. On their backs.

Hussain: Kc Jd
Cascarino: 6c 6s

Board: 7c 2s 9s Aspades 9h

A double up to a still frankly woefully short stack for Cascarino but it's considerably better than nothing; Hussain, pretty damn short before, is now down to the absolute felt and I suspect he may be in danger of getting eaten by the antes at this stage.

And now is when Duvall strikes - and takes out Martin Green in 13th place!  Green, who seemed to me to have been playing solidly all day (not in the sense of nit either) had a decent stack, and we were quite surprised to see it in preflop and a happy Jeff Duvall up against him... with the Ac Ad.  Green held Qd Qs, they did him no good and we are now down to 12.

I said the barometer of Jeff Duvall was going up slowly but continually - with the occasional flood of chips recently building his now nearly 500k stack.  I still tip him for the final, only much less tentatively than this afternoon.  Go Jeff Duvall!  I would like to see him and Eirik Svanes play on the final... especially now that Henning has come over and outed Svanes as a cash game player who's...

"The worst at tournaments in Norway.  Isn't that right?"
"Hmm?" goes Svanes interrupted from the table by grinning Henning.
"You are actually the worst tournament player in Norway!"
At this the sanguine mainly fairly expressionless Svanes grinned suddenly and laughing agreed.

Then he went back to looking at his 750k:

While Duvall with his 500k stack just reraised out of the small blind getting Surinder, who's not comfortably stacked any more, to pass and give up his button raise.  Note how neither player in this hand will look the other in the eye...

Blind on blind, Eirik Svanes raised and Stuart Rutter called.

The flop: Kh Aspades Tc

Swanes bet out 28.8k and Rutter flat-called.

Onwards to the turn: Ts

Cagey check, cagey check.

And finally the river: 7s

Swanes fired out 44k followed by an INSTAcall from Rutter, who turned over Td Jd for trips. A nod and a muck from Svanes, and Rutter is up to 240k.

Maz obv calls and his Ahrt Jd has Flanders Ad 8d dominated and in trouble...

A flop of 7h 5d Td however renews Tim (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=433) Flanders (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=433)' hopes though as he picks up a flush draw.

TURN: 6h. Wow his draw just got better...open ended straight draw and flush draw now but Maz's AJ high is still the best hand...

RIVER: 8s!

Finally Flanders hits his draw and Maz' stack has a large nibble taken out of it.

"It was the best hand I'm likely to see before my big blind. I was desperate!" explained a relieved Flanders.

On the left, Gregory Howard, who's moving in pre all the time and we reckon has the best chance of all the short stacks to bust next or actually get a real stack going for the final... in the middle, solid, unflappable Ashby, and on the right Eirik Svanes, still in the lead and looking as comfortable as Snoopy in slippers.

Having played that bizarre hand pre break where he bet off over half his stack and then folded when Maz put him all in, Tony Cascarino has double-doubled his micro stack into over 100k.  First off his autocalled shove with Ahrt Qc held up against Ks 4h but didn't hurt caller Maz Nawab at all, then he picked up Qh Qd immediately and found Tim Flanders pushing in front of him with Ad Qc.  The case Qs arrived just to reinforce how ahead he was, and this time the dent to Flanders' stack may prove fatal...

Tony Cascarino raised to 30k utg and it folded around to microstack Tim Flanders in the small blind who shrugged and called for 13 total (including his small blind). Big blind Guy Steel passed, Cascarino took his change back and they were on their backs.

Cascarino: Aspades Ts
Flanders: 9s 3d

Board: Ahrt 2c 5h 8h Ks

Gregory Howard ships in his shortstack and Stu Rutter calls so fast, his scarf almost flies off his head.

It doesn't though and he proudly turns up bullets to Howard's Kc Qc.

The flop of Ad 5c Ks looks pretty conclusive, although Stu is made to sweat as the 9c comes on the turn to give Howard a flush draw...

Stu can barely look but when he does he sees the dealer deal the Js as the river!

Stu punches the air delighted to have faded that club and Howard is busted in 11th spot for £6,900.

The action continues hand-for-hand with 10 players remaining and only one more elimination required till we have our GUKPT Grand Final final table.

So exciting!

And we nearly, nearly have an all-in situation... Hand for hand takes a long time sometimes, and at any hint of excitement, everyone gathers around eagerly awaiting the news of one of their fellow players' tournament demise.

Surinder just-over-minraised pre, but then Tony Cascarino confidently shoved all in on the big blind.  Despite there being 50k in the pot, and the raise being 40k, Surinder tanked while everyone held their collective breaths.  Expecting him to call any second, we found him passing!  Cascarino flashed 8c 8s and the game continues...

JC!

Maz just saw Guy Steele raise it up on the button and when he looked down at a pair of tens, he was happy to put a hefty re-raise in.

Unfortunately for him, Guy was going nowhere with his luscious pair of pocket Kings and so the pair got it in, with Maz looking in dire shape.

A King on the flop sealed the deal for Guy and Maz's tournament was very nearly brought to a halt, but he had 25k more than Guy so survives...just.

Maz had to make a move pretty soon and did so the next hand with 8-8. Surinder though had pocket 9s and a board of Td 4c 7c 4h 3s did nothing to alter the balance of power. We are sad for Maz who made an awesome comeback from a tiny stack BUT...

Maz's elimination in 10th spot for £8,300 means the tournament comes to a close for the day as we now have our final 9 competitors!

We'll post up the final chip stacks when we receive official confirmation from Jon Raab.

For now though we congratulate those lucky nine and we thank you for following us today through our travails.

We hope we have amused and entertained you all. It's really been a blast and the players have really put on a great show of poker.

Join us tomorrow for the final run-in as we seek to crown the Grand Final champion!

But for now from myself, Jen and Dana ;stickaforkinme;
