Morning, Morning. Yes, we expect yet another stress-free day at the office.......

Now, if any of you at home could do me a favour, I'd REALLY appreciate it, as I'm solo here at the moment, & I have loads of "scene-setting" to do. Can someone "re-sort" the players into Table & Seat Order please? Thank you!

There is also a "Consolation Tournament" today, the winner of which gets a "Golden Ticket" as the SEVENTH player in tomorrows's Final. He will take 10 Big Blinds to the Final. Not much, butt you never know, & that "Golden Seat" is worth a MINIMUM of $100,000.

Morning Tikay, are we getting updates from the consolation tournament. Or have we decided that the fishes that all got knocked out earlier aren't really worth it, hey no 2nd chances in the 30 pound freezeout at notts. Do these lot think they are good or something. :D

Yoor reporters today?

Well, we sent Jen to bed last night, she was still unwel, & we told her to stay in bed until she was better. So I don't expect to see her today. But then again, maybe we will, she has a very strong sense of responsibility.

Dave? He had a tough day yesterday, don't think he's ever done a full days Live Updating! But we left here at 0100, then played a few SNG's on the yacht until around 5am this morning. (We only live once, eh?). Anyway, Dave is playing the Consolation Tourney in 4 hours time, so I don't want him "working" today.

So it looks like you are stuck with the 'ol fella. Old, maybe, but I still got stamina, eh?

Title: Re: Monte Carlo Millions Day Three - LIVE UPDATE
Post by: tikay on November 22, 2005, 10:18:37 AM
Blinds are 3,000 - 6,000, Antes 1,000, & there are 12 minutes remaining of this 90 minute level.

Bear in mind we are playing two six-handed tables, so them there blinds whizz round mighty quick! Can't sit quietly today, eh? Unless your name is Phil Ivey & Tony G, both of whom will, I'm sure, keep out of the way & keep their powder dry until the Final tomorrow.

Note, by the way, that Phil & Tony have around 35%+ of the chips in play. (Approx).

Great News! Text just in from Jen......

"I just woke up, I feel much better, as expected. On my way when suitably dressed etc...".

That's GREAT news for you at home, she does the job properly. I have to tell you, she really was most unwell yesterday.

Right, that's set the scene, now let's get down to business.

Morning Your Kayness - two tables six handed?

You can do those with a hand tied behind your back and whilst sipping tea with the other hand :)

Just do what you can, enjoy it, cause then we enjoy it :)

We want colour, and lots of it :)

Heid
xx
PS Glad you are feeling better Jen (we'll get proper updates now!)

A pint of lager costs a tenner here, asks Davey? You wish. A LOT more I reckon.

As soon as Jen arrives, we will start the pics, now we've sorted some of the techy issues that arose late yesterday.

As you know I follow nearly all these live updates and I believe this one has been the best yet, very slick (whatever that means).

Good luck to everybody in today's event, especially 'Spillano' if he turns up.

I watched sargon for most of yesterday. He was never involved in any huge pots at all. he just played continual steady poker. No risks. he must be very happy with the way he played and very disappointed with his exit. i was impressed.

Chip counts from the non-feature table (well, it's got a big crowd around it and some TV cameras so it's pretty featured too, to be honest):

James Kenna    320k
Paul Jackson     410k
Bengt Sonnert  320k
Jean-Jacques Ghebali  340k
Marc Goodwin   900k

Title: Re: Monte Carlo Millions Day Three - LIVE UPDATE

Sorry, no approaching of the TV area until the break, at which point we'll get the accurate numbers.  But after a series of hand signals have passed between Tony and Tony, we have a rough idea of the stacks:

Tony G    900k
Chris Ferguson  220k
Richard Herbert  470k
Erik Sagstrom  280k
Phil Ivey   1 mil

Kenna James, Seat 1 on the "non TV Table" is a loud, brash, American gentleman, with a big, wide-brimmed cowboy hat. He's LOUD. Not trash talk, but LOUD, bla bla bla, non-stop. Bit of a character. Comments on every action by every player, "you sure you wanna do that?", "you called $60k in a million buck tourney with A-2?", "I got your numbers guys". Nothing offensive, but seriously loud & brash. Typical American? Absolutely not. Pic to follow.

Chris Ferguson has the majority of his stack taken by Strummer (Richard Herbert) in a blind vs blind hand.  Chris raised in the small blind (40k), called by Strummer.  The flop involves a Jack, a 9 and a rag.  The betting goes: small bet from Jesus, raise -->100k from Strummer, flat call.
The turn brought another 9; Ferguson checked and passed to Strummer's all-in, leaving him just a bowl of rice...

And Chris 'Jesus' Ferguson is eliminated in 10th place:

He made a stand with  Ac 7c against Erik Sagstrom's  Qc Tc, and with both an Ace and a Queen on the flop it was looking good for the double up, but the river (it can be so cruel) brought the second Queen to knock out the only other hat-wearer in the final two tables.

I do apologise for the lack of hand details in the first hour, it's just a bit heavy doing this solo. Especially if you are a one-finger typist, & there's the 12 players to list, seat allocations, prize money, scene setting, da de da de da. And I overlaid.....

Slight correctionette:

The TV table is actually at a slight slant (tilt, perhaps?) meaning that estimates are off by a bit, and we've had a more precise count done by those who are allowed to touch the precious chips:

Tony G      1,179,000
Phil Ivey    1,187,000
Marc Goodwin  728,000
Richard Herbert  640,000
James Kenna   488,000
Bengt Sonnert  460,000
Paul Jackson   435,000
Erik Sagstrom  303,000
Jean-Jacques Ghebali  180,000

Marc Goodwin takes a 50k pot off ActionJack with a strongly-played 7 9 in the small blind.  He bet the river on what he probably considered a bluff (with a pair of 7s only) and was called by Paul with Ace high!  Bengt Sonnert goes, "I like the play with 79 from the small blind!" and Marc says, "You know who taught it me?" Pointing at ActionJack...

I have to say that I had no idea that was being taken... yikes.

Hi Snoopy - you could come and play, but if you wanted to play like the final nine you'd have to mainly pass, with the occasional outrageous bluff (Rich 'Strummer' maintains that his hand was K8 when he pushed all-in against Ferguson that time).

Title: Re: Monte Carlo Millions Day Three - LIVE UPDATE
Post by: Djinn on November 22, 2005, 12:35:56 PM
Richard Herbert takes another big pot, this time off Tony G, who called 40k preflop, 110k on the flop only to pass on the turn when Richard went all-in for nearly half a mil...  So that's twice in an hour.  Sorry no more detail, but he's on the old TV table.

Title: Re: Monte Carlo Millions Day Three - LIVE UPDATE
Post by: Djinn on November 22, 2005, 12:46:36 PM
Kenna James seems to like trying to wind up short-stacked Frenchman Jean-Jacques Ghebali.  It appears that earlier JJ called a sizeable raise of Mr. James' with a four in his hand and he's been loath to let him forget it, saying things like. "Oh, so you've got an eight?  No, of course you raise; if you want to call 60k with a four, what are you going to do with an EIGHT?"  He's never rude, exactly, but I wouldn't be surprised if they get involved in a pot rather soon.

Title: Re: Monte Carlo Millions Day Three - LIVE UPDATE
Post by: tikay on November 22, 2005, 12:47:16 PM
Kenna James, the Cowboy Hat man, gives the players tips, advice & gentle rubdowns during & after EVERY hand, even those he is not involved in, he's some character, & he's seriously loud. But I chatted with him during the break, & he's a big softy-wofty. "How's it going tikay, they looking after you OK, you see ActionJack make that play with 9-7, you want anything?". He really is very nice off the table, maybe his on-table antics are just intended to induce tilt. But ActionJack & Marc Goodwin are not biting, they are both cool. ActionJack was down to the felt with 15 players left, but he's right back in it now. He COULD win it, believe me. But presumably, he has to pay a hefty % of his winnings to Bad Beat.

Just to put Jean-Jacques low stack into perspective, blinds at 6k - 12k, & a running ante of 2k are bad enough, but his table is FIVE handed, so his stack is burning away fast. He has 70k now.

The other table, the TV jobbie, is FOUR handed! As they began at 8 & 9 handed on Sunday, & reduced to 6 handed after Day oOne, they cant all go on one table now. Tough game sometimes.

Fascinating hand news now - wherein Paul 'ActionJack' Jackson takes a huge part of Kenna James' stack.  In the blinds, they both saw the  Kc Tc  Jh flop, and the  6s turn.  There was already a pile of red chips in the middle, then Kenna moved 150k in on the turn, which, after a while, Paul flat called.
The river:  Js.  Now Kenna James checks, and Paul bets just 40k.  There's another lengthy think, as he talks himself (eventually) out of calling: "You have a full house?" "Value bet," Paul says, nodding.  "I had K 10...."

So, when it gets down to seven left, they can't go on one table, so there'll be one table with 4 players, and another with 3, putting the shortstack on the 3 handed table at a disadvantage.

Then, when the final comes, it'll be one seven-handed table!

You'd have thought they'd have considered this beforehand and set it so that 7 players went through, with Charlie Bucket joining them to make a final table of 8.

Super short stack Jean-Jacques gets a much needed double up with pocket nines against Bengt Sonnert's  Jd 9d, and then Erik Sagstrom did the same against Tony G with  Ac Qh against  Ad 2d (for Tony).  But somehow Erik had dwindled to about 100k and is only on about the same chips now as Ghebali.

Good point Andrew.

The players are gathering now for the Consolation Tourney, due to begin in 45 minutes. I may be wrong here, but i don't THINK they can start it until the Main Event is down to 6. The Big Noises are starting to fret, in case we don't lose the necessary 3 players in 45 minutes.

I just spoke to Matt Savage - The Consolation Tourney starts ON TIME in 40 minutes, whether or not we are down to 6 by then. So those that are still in the biggie, but then bust out & take their seat in the Consol Jobbie, will be blinded away. Serves 'em right for doing so well.....

I totally agree Andrew - all tournaments should have an odd-numbered final (not counting any Golden Ticketees) for exactly that reason, keeping the playing field level... but in any case there is no sign of anyone about to disappear, as all the short-stacked all-ins seem to get their double throughs.

Counts from the visitable table:

Kenna James    430,000
ActionJack       620,000
Bengt Sonnert  340,000
Jean-Jacques Ghebali  170,000
Marc Goodwin    715,000

Well, not exactly "farce" ifm, but yes, not ideal. But maybe we WILL lose the necessary 3 players in the next 40 minutes. Well, it's 40 minutes MINUS a 15 minute "between level" break, so only 25 mins in truth. And poor Jean-Jacques needs to get lucky, that's for sure. Eric Sagstrom was all-in a few mins ago too against Tony G, Tony with A2, Erik with AQ, so it seems to be "push time".....

A series of unsuccessful clashes have disposed of most of Tony G's chips, leaving him as one of the shortest stacks.  Today has been Phil Ivey's afternoon, as he's gone from strength to strength, with few announced all-in style pots.  The badbeat boys lie in second and third in chips, with Paul Jackson especially having put in a good performance, having started the day with under 300k

Title: Re: Monte Carlo Millions Day Three - LIVE UPDATE
Post by: Djinn on November 22, 2005, 02:05:31 PM
Jean-Jacques Ghebali gets it all-in and wins again!  He held  Td 9h against  Qh Jc.
Flop (looking bad for JJ):  Ac Kh 4s
Turn:  The one and only (well, one of three)  9c
River:   Ad

It is impossible to destroy the short stacks!  Meanwhile the Consolation players are being herded into the other chambre which looks plenty big enough to accommodate them all.  I wonder if the next three out are going to do a mad dash through to the next room to sit down in their Consolation places?

Called by Phil Ivey with  Kc Qh.

The flop brought a King, along with a 6 4, but it was the turned second King which sealed the deal and finally took out Erik123 in 9th place, for $35,000.

Just to clear up that earlier confusion about the potentially very short handed tables at this stage:

They've redrawn onto ONE table, as is right and proper, and are taking their seats even now.  One more out and the final six get a little rest before the final tomorrow, while Mr. Seventh could try his luck in the 'freeroll' next door.

Extraordinary goings on next door in the Consol Tourrney.

Dave picks up  Ks Kh, & bumps into  Asp Ah, but catches his set.

NEXT HAND John Kabbaj & Andy Black clash. John has  Ad Ac, Andy has  Kc Kh

Flop is  3d 6d 8d, so Andy can only catch ONE of the two remaining Kings. And the  Ks fell!

And Tony G is the 7th place finisher for $53,000 -

Paul Jackson found  Qd Qs just as Tony moved in with  Kc Qc.

Flop:   Asp Ac 2s
Turn:   9c, bringing that hope of the flush draw to Tony
River:   3s

And the final six are off, back tomorrow in the even more luxurious surroundings of the de Monte Carlo.

We have to pop across to the Casino de Monte Carlo to do "pre-Final" Publicity pics of the lucky six finalists. We won't be long, & will give you the Chip Counts for the Final the moment we return.

Congrats to all the finalists. Bengt representing team betfair and 2 of team badbeat should give me something to watch tomorrow. If one of the badbeat boys win maybe the the thread on the validity of team backing from the other day can be resurected. I don't know the %s but I assume if strummer or AJ wins this the backer will have made a profit as well as giving the team a good trip (assuring their loyalty for future events no doubt)

Just one  more thing before we  pop across the road to the BIG PLACE.

"The Never Rains it Pours" Department - Tony G took his seat in the Consolation Tourney, & busted out first hand. OUCH!

Just for the avoidance of doubt, when Ariston refers to "Team Betfair", Bengt Sonnert is wearing a tinsy winsy Betfair logo, & a monsterooney "Poker Santas" Logo. And yes, I know the deal.

Not sure if betfair put him in this one tony- maybe ruri can confirm. Makes no odds to me- hes a top bloke and would love him to win it (he will always be team betfair no matter how small the logo lol).

The Final begins at 5pm Wednesday (4pm UK) tomorrow, & we will have full coverage.

We still await the Chip Counts for the Final, but they are not much different to when we reported them 7 handed - they only played one hand!

And while our backs were turned, all our power cables & extenson leads have been stolen, so we have to close down anyway!

So, some much needed sleep is in order for us - see you later maybe, if not, see you tomorrow.

Many thanks to everyone at Prima, MMC & Matt Savage, & a special thanks to Kerry Johnson from Lotus PR & her team.

Later.

xx

Kenna James, Seat 1 on the "non TV Table" is a loud, brash, American gentleman, with a big, wide-brimmed cowboy hat. He's LOUD. Not trash talk, but LOUD, bla bla bla, non-stop. Bit of a character. Comments on every action by every player, "you sure you wanna do that?", "you called $60k in a million buck tourney with A-2?", "I got your numbers guys". Nothing offensive, but seriously loud & brash. Typical American? Absolutely not. Pic to follow.

gotta love the loud ones

Brilliant.

Have to say i found it quite just that he blew his chips. I am pretty sure however that AJ being a class guy didn't mock him on his way out.
