He is a truly amazing player but just on the chip stacks I will be laying him. The final table aint full of mugs and purely on a maths basis 2.07 is too short. I know negreanu won when he had a massive chip lead at last years 5 diamonds but at one stage he lost the chip lead and very nearly blew it. LAY LAY LAY LAY LAY (even though he is the best player)

So Matt Savage has graciously introduced the final players (as if they need it!) and the seats and chips are as follows:

Richard Herbert   908,000
Phil Ivey           2,317,000
Kenna James       310,000
Marc Goodwin      681,000
Paul Jackson       809,000
Bengt Sonnert    582,000
John Juanda       160,000

The blinds are 8k - 16k with a 2k ante.  They're off!

Well, here is your Chip Leader, Mr Phil Ivey. He's been friendly & co-operative with blonde all week, even though he finds doing press chats a bit of a bind. Top bloke, nice demeanour at the table, & he got 3rd in this comp last year. And, bizarrely, he actually remembered playing against me in the WSOP this year - & I only played one event! Remarkable.

Are there ANY Rankes for this Iron? I mean, it was, officially, "invitation only".......Surely they can't give Rankers for that?

Anyway, here's Mr Billy Big Stack Ivey's Big Stack. The Green Chips, stacked in 20's, are 10k each......!

Here's Chip Second Richard Herbert. What a remarkable rags to riches story by this guy, a comparative unknown a few months back.

There has been no real action to speak of yet, Raise Pass, Raise Pass.

Title: Re: Monte Carlo Millions - Final Table
Post by: Djinn on November 23, 2005, 05:12:08 PM
And it's a full 20 minutes and counting without a flop - just thought I should pop back and report so you can all tell I've been watching closely... the blinds and antes have gone to:
Strummer (Richard Herbert) x2
Phil Ivey x2
Marc Goodwin x1
Paul Jackson x1

They are 8,000 - 16,000 so John Juanda must be feeling a tad pressed, and the other shorter stacks might be doing something so I'm heading back in.

20 minutes flop-less, then it all goes off! Kenna James got himself busted all ends up when Marc Goodwin trapped him an absolute treat, when, seeing a 2-2-7 flop, the strangely subdued Kenna James thought his 33 was good, but Marc was a zillion miles ahead with his KK.

Here's Kenna in happier times.

Jen - djinn - & I are 50 metres apart, can't see or speak to each other, so apologies if our Posts overlap, we are doing our best in awkward circumstances. All the other bloggers have ost their power supply, the building's power supply is grossly overoaded with all these tv peeps & stuff, & fuses have been blowing left right & centre. But Jen & I have both found little power enclaves, & we arre keeping a low profile, in case someone tries to steal our precious power.

ActionJack & Bengt Sonnert collide big-style, it's all-in pre-fliop, & this is what they show.

Bengt has..... Ad Kd

ActionJack has.... As Kh

Flop is ...... Js 6h 3h

And despite a nerve tingling moment when the possibility of a 4 flush existed, it alll ended up as a split pot.

But THEN it alll went off next hand.....

Title: Re: Monte Carlo Millions - Final Table
Post by: Djinn on November 23, 2005, 05:41:45 PM
Two get out of jails for Bengt Sonnert - almost immediately after he gets a split pot, he's all in against Richard Herbert and it's all looking a bit bleak:
Flop: 3 6 9
Richard has flopped a set of sixes, Bengt has 9 10.
Turn: 10
River: 9

And runner-runner full house propels Bengt to 510,000.

After that unlucky loss of chips, Strummer (Richard) fought back by taking two sets of sizeable blinds and antes in a row, but then ran his  As 5s into Phil Ivey who had picked up  Ad Ac!

He hit one five on the flop, but there was no miracle for him and so Richard Herbert is the 5th place finisher, winning $175,000

Phil Ivey wins fascinating hand news now -

Bengt raises under the gun, and is called by Phil on the button and Paul Jackson in the big blind.  Flop:  Ah 4h 3c.  Paul checks, Bengt bets 100k, Phil calls and after a big dwell, so does ActionJack.
Turn:  Td checks around.
River:   3h  And Paul Jackson bets 150,000, getting a pass from Bengt Sonnert and an eventual flat call from Phil holding the nut flush - which was good.

Title: Re: Monte Carlo Millions - Final Table
Post by: Djinn on November 23, 2005, 06:14:12 PM
Can't get anywhere near the table for counts, I'm afraid, but it's safe to say Phil Ivey is the safe chip leader, and Bengt Sonnert is probably the lowest stack, but still not at the felt, or anything like that.

No this is a truly breathtaking place and there's just enough information flying to me to (hopefully) make it interesting for you and that's what's so fun about this job...

Like:  Bengt Sonnert eliminated in 4th place for $250,000

He moved in with K9 and Phil Ivey's A 10 took him out, even after the King popped out on the flop, he turned the 10 and rivered the Ace to get up to an astounding chip lead of 4.3million

Marc Goodwin has 880,000
And Paul Jackson therefore 500,000 or thereabouts.

Title: Re: Monte Carlo Millions - Final Table

Chip Counts, approx.

Marc Goodwin 700,000

Paul Jackson 700,000

Phil Ivey - 7 wheelbarrows full. That's about 4.3 million, at a guess.

Will we reach the dinner break, whch is just under an hour away? We will if one of those Brummies doubles up against Ivey!

Title: Re: Monte Carlo Millions - Final Table
Post by: Djinn on November 23, 2005, 06:44:37 PM
Paul 'ActionJack' Jackson wins a couple of odd pots, one involving calling Marc Goodwins 40k river bluff (he had Jack high) with a little pair to win, and the other involved his betting 20k into a 160k pot on the river with a board thus:  Q 6 2 7 K (3 spades) against Phil Ivey on the button.  Phil called; now, what do you reckon Paul had?  I bet you don't guess 5s 5h.  But that's what he had, and it won.

Title: Re: Monte Carlo Millions - Final Table
Post by: tikay on November 23, 2005, 06:46:43 PM

It's almost deathly quiet in the Arena now. There was a lot of vocal support for Bengt, but they have all left now, & Marc & Paul have it all on to wrest those chips away from the great & good (& also, today, a bit lucky) Phil Ivey.

But if they wanna win, then they have to gamble at some stage, & maybe THEY will get lucky, too. You don't get lucky by passing! Paul & Marc have played the comps of their lives, & it ain't over yet.

Title: Re: Monte Carlo Millions - Final Table

Post by: Djinn on November 23, 2005, 07:02:17 PM
It's gotten noticably quiet here as there is no desire apparent from the final three to get it all in with their fingers crossed.

All three players see a board come out of A 8 7 8 3 which is taken down by Paul Jackson with one of his 20,000 bet-outs on the river.

Apart from that there are a couple of walks(!) which included probably the only fold on the button from Phil Ivey in the tournament, which actually got an announcement from Matt Savage and a clap from the audience.

Title: Re: Monte Carlo Millions - Final Table
Post by: tikay on November 23, 2005, 07:08:52 PM

Marc seems to be calling all the way, then passing to bets on the end, he's playing pretty passive now, & has called away down to about 300k. Most of his chips have gone to Paul, who is to his left, but who keeps betting, whether he hits or not, I fancy. Phil, meanwhile, with over 4 milion, is sitting out, & watching in amusement. He don't care who he gets, but he's awaiting the Heads-Up battle.

Dinner Break now, so we are off for a quick bite, play resumes at 9.15pm Local.

Chip Counts - Marc Goodwin 368k

ActionJack 803k

Phil Ivey - too many to count, but looks to be about 4.6 million.

*************Dinner Break**************

The final three and the cast and crew are heading for dinner and I rather think it's a good idea that I do the same.  When I return it will be to Frosty Corner in which my battery will last for 2hrs which should be enough to see this to its thrilling conclusion.  The good people of Fox have noticed me in here now (wouldn't you just know it) and I consider it tactically imprudent to press them for any further generosity.  I feel I have already been treated with all the good grace, and more than, I expected.   >:(

I know Action is a massive online player - but what's his history in tournaments like this? Is this a real first for him?

And they're off!  And immediately, almost - we have a 3rd place finisher in Marc Goodwin!

He and Phil Ivey saw a flop of  Jh 8c 4c.  The money went in and their hands were: Marc  Js 9d, Phil  Jd Ts!
Turn and river:   7c 3c and he was out, winning $325,000.

So it's heads up between the megafamous American with all the chips (looks like a five to one lead), and the soon-to-be pretty famous (or more so than he is already) ActionJack...

They've started slowly; the first pot went to Paul, and the second which has gone all the way to the river has also been taken by him... is this the start of a truly monumental comeback?

They're seeing pots in past the flop a fair bit, with none of that all-in preflop stuff (yet).  Now on a  4h 4c Jd 5h board Paul Jackson takes down another one, to rapturous applause from the Brits, especially his team mates.  He's a great underdog to root for as he is playing like someone who's a long way from giving up.

Tikay / jen

Not from Nottingham Nick  & Mrs G here. Sat in airport in Antigua with Mark banin and Paul Alterman (with respective missuses (?)) waiting for our connecting flight to St Kitts.

Grabbed the last few threads.

Awesome display from Rich (Strummer) and incredibly unlucky.

Will you please pass on my best wishes to Paul. He's had a rough time playing live recently and what a time for his FORM to change. AWESOME DISPLAY.

Cant wait to log on later to see his win

Good grief, not only do we have to cope with lag and errors popping up on refreshing, we now have to cope with them speaking Double Dutch too!!!!

I don't think Jen's teasing helped much either.  lol

According a Swedish site Ivey has won it.

Post by: Djinn on November 23, 2005, 09:35:46 PM
Now Paul's all-in with  Qh Jh.....and Ivey calls!  With  Kc Qd..

The board comes out:  Th 6c  9c (some outs there!) then  2s 5s, so Paul Jackson finishes in Second Place (with a cool $600,000 in prize to console him)

And Phil Ivey is the Monte Carlo Millions 2005 Champion and the giant cheque for $1,000,000 has his name on it.

Congratulations to ActionJack for a totally fearless final and heads up against chip monster Ivey, who himself played a great game throughout.

And honestly sorry for the delays, we're experiencing it at our end too :(

Congrats to AJ and Strummer

Would be interesting to know what AJ and Ivey had in the re-re-raise hand where Ivey had the '7 minute' dwell. Any interview slot secured with AJ yet?

Otherwise see TK and co on Friday at Walsall.

Note to self 'never listen to Aristons betting tips'

stay lucky,

Paul, brilliant display mate, I'm proud to have played with you and to be able to call you a mate. Can't wait to hear about this game face to face (better than your usual drivel).

Team Blonde, excellent reporting, updates and atmosphere building, your forum is awesome and there;s literally hundreds of aldbrokes players (who were following AJ And Strum and the other 10 bad beat/laddies fellas) who are now converted to what a proper poker forum should be about, big congrats on a great job.
